There is no spin for this which is why they’ll say nothing.

No, it’s not true.
There’s no separate key if you already own the base game.
I doubt it. The expansion is $50 for old and new players alike.
Yeah, I’m concerned with the way they did this that the number of players in the game will diminish significantly. Would hate to see the game begin to die out with only a small playerbase like Rift.
If you already own the game, it acts as an upgrade only. There’s no second account.
This would be nice but I don’t think it will happen.

So my friends that bought the base game because I suggested they get into it before HoT are now giving me kitten about this. I wasn’t really on their side, but then one of them linked me this.

“Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.”I’ll admit that there is nothing in the hard, 100% strict interpretation of these words that explicitly refutes the idea that HoT and the base game could be bought together, but when stuff like this is posted and all your HoT announcements are timed with a sale of the base game? This is pretty dirty marketing ANet.
Good point.
Yeah, they have never said that the xpac will be purchaseable with gems. Someday it might be, but no guarantees. Maybe this option will come out in a year or so.

They could have an expansion-only price…’
Every other MMO in the world does this…

Most of the playerbase won’t pay for the game they already have a second time, so…
All pre-orders include the base game we already have…

Do i have to buy the core game Again , just to get the expansion?
Yes, you do.
Kinda seems like an archaic thing not to have, really.
If other games have this…why would it be hard for a newer game to do?
I think the once-weekly article about HoT IS the placeholder content before HoT.
Easy world bosses…meh, works for me.
I’m so sorry. I hope your wish in this comes true.
They could streamline the NPE to be more like the way it was before. There’s just no reason to stretch everything out so long. No new player is so unintelligent that they need to be given skills and such so slowly that it interferes with optimal play.
Map completion is the easy part of this equation. The hard part is the money sunk in constantly for all the 250 T6 mats needed for every legendary crafted and sold.
I’m getting my skill challenges and map completions for my alts done, as well as finishing their personal stories and getting living season 2 done. I’m also making ascended gear for my alts so they’re geared for HoT.
All this is keeping me so busy that I hope HoT doesn’t come out until well into the fall. lol
I always feel badly for the level 5-15s in these zones in general. With all the 80s around, they have no hope of getting any loot or even enough hits on something to get completion for the events on daily days.
Same here…./15 char
If I’m doing an alt and need the heart, I kill whatever counts for the heart, including ambients.
If I get yelled at for doing my heart, I ignore them and still work on the heart, including killing ambients.
Farmers pitching fits has no bearing on my behavior at all.
The drop rate has been lowered, yes.
Interesting suggestion, but then again, mounts don’t scare me like they do some.

I’ve been finishing 100% map completions on alts, getting skill challenges done, making ascended gear, finishing up personal stories and living stories. This has been keeping me plenty busy enough.
They like to string a little info out at once over a long period of time. Keeps people checking back.
Ascended gear is difficult enough to get that it should feature stat-swapping just like legendaries.
Let me trade my crests for geodes so I can buy the rest of my ambrite recipes….
This would be fabulous.
He still has a job because the queen isn’t dead yet.
For the general whine over this or any player interaction, go find another layer then. You can log in and out of the character or use guesting to find another layer.
90% of the time this doesn’t work. Guesting simply puts me right back into the same map I was in before, netting me no gain.
achievement point board hunters’ perceived need to slavishly do all the chores each day.
Yeah, I never understood why they felt this way. You never actually needed to do every single one. You only needed a few for completion.
I’m not worried. Just because they make other gear stats viable doesn’t mean berserker will be any less so. Seriously doubt berserker will be replaced, anyway.
Yeah, I’m glad that GW2 (and the other games I play) aren’t anything like the old MMOs. I like the relaxed atmosphere of this game.
The whole outfit looks really bulky to me. Like she/he is trying to hide a pregnancy.
You know, that’s been complained about as immersion breaking or anti-roleplaying since they came out, but from where I’m sitting that’s just a lack of imagination.
I don’t RP much, but I do have backstories for all of my characters. One of my characters is a big hulking charr, and according to his backstory he was once a drunk pretty vile mercenary. The turning point came for him when he was hired, along with several other mercenaries, to escort a rich family through hostile territory. That family had a child with a pink quaggan doll. During the job, my charr character grew close to the girl and her family, but due to his negligence and stupidity the family was massacred by the assassins he had been hired to protect them from. Now he carries that doll with him on his back as a reminder of the failure that now drives him to be better.
So I think the Quaggan backpack is perfect for roleplaying.
That is just a fabulous story.
Bad news! The president has been kidnapped by ninjas! Are you a bad enough dude to join the discussions on initiating a meeting to spearhead the preparation of a proposal to seek funding for a rescue mission?
Why would we want to rescue him?
Since the number one thing our characters are going to be doing in their lifetimes is hunt the elder dragons down and kill them, I think this name is fairly appropriate. I like the way it sounds and I like the focus on the greatest threat to Tyria of our time.
So everyone is a Dragonhunter?
Well, everyone, every class is a warrior because they all kill and fight things, but no one seems bothered by only one class being singled out as a warrior. Not sure if this is what you meant, but it seems to work the same.
Is this game meant for role-players or is it not?
You can roleplay in any game. It’s your choice and no one can stop you. I’m not sure what you mean by is this game “meant” for it, though. Most MMOs are not made specifically with the roleplaying community in mind.
But any game can be roleplayed if that’s what you want to do, and there are always going to be people that try to harrass you or grief you. Even games that seem to give itself especially well to RP have lots of griefers.
Charr from the Norn personal story about their chugger – “…It’s Iron Legion, not Asuran crystal magic rainbow trash…”
Actually that whole storyline is hilarious. “Have at you, leafy!” “Jormag eats dung.”
lol I see one of these threads every time a new outfit is released in the gem store. I still don’t know why they don’t have an armor and an outfit option for every skin. Then everyone is happy.
Yeah, Rangers are left in the dusters.
All expansions bring new content to a game and new benefits and perks. Not buying an expansion for any game essentially brings a person to a grinding halt at some point. This is expected and normal. There’s nothing wrong with it and it’s not P2W.
Why would anyone believe that GW2 is going to be different?
The Flame Legion had religious overtones, too, so this isn’t exactly new.
The revenant is not a tank class. We only had 2 legends, neither of which was DPS based, so no one was doing optimal damage today. Put berserker gear and a couple of DPS legends on the rev and you’ll see a difference in damage.
Wide open maps do not necessarily equal easy mode. Adding levels does not mean a map is particularly challenging. Also, not liking a particular map does not mean a player is looking for a free ride, either.
@ Lord Funk, Queensdale is always available if complex maps are not your thing.
This doesn’t speak to his concerns because he is looking for new, future content he wants to do, not recycle old content.
The Masteries panel just astounded me. It was remarkably confusing to use considering the NPE where Anet was convinced that if we had 2 skills to use in the intro, we’d be so overwhelmed, we’d quit the game….
I really like the hearts along with the other map exploration items. If map completion items are being permanently abandoned, that will be very sad for us players that enjoy exploration.
