The maps standard. Just look at EB, how towers and keeps are placed, you will see that everything is in fact connected. Its not everything that WvW is when it comes to gameplay, but its the way WvW maps are designed.
Actually they are not all connected. For example Mendons Tower can treb exactly 0 other towers/keeps. Also Red Keep in Eternal Can treb SM and the other two can’t. If this was a core map design don’t you think they would have balanced it out a bit?
It is/was balanced though.
Red keep in EB has always been intended for the weakest (by numbers) team which is why you can treb all towers and SMC from it. Red, especially before the randomization was added to match-ups, was always meant for the weakest team. That is also why red, blue, and green spawn positions on the Alpine borderland map are where they are, the differences in the difficulty of offense/defense between old Bay and Hills were originally dictated by server rank and advantages/disadvantages were handed out to balance population inequality.

I don’t understand what the OP is trying to say. Are you not happy about this announcement or are you looking forward to it?
exactly. an alliance of guilds. with his suggestion, the implementation of this alliance would be much, much easier. currently, guilds are locked into server and pay gems to move around anyways. loyalty should be to the guild, and guild leaders would be loyal to each other if they choose to. this is how eve online works. no one is constrained by a server, which is a totally unnecessary and imbalanced construct. not to mention a gated experience (behind the gem paywall).
imagine a red vs. blue vs. green on a given map. and guilds got to choose what side they fight for when the matchup starts.
We must be talking past each other because this is how it works now too with servers. The existence of a paywall to transfer between “alliances” has not really stopped anyone for the past three years from making changes.
Make one central map with overflows and combine all the servers into megaservers. Server loyalty is kind of a dead thing anyway.
maybe we can move away from server loyalty to guild loyalty. wouldn’t that be fun? who cares about the server, it’s all about the guild. I love your idea.
That wouldn’t work entirely since WvW is a match between team units larger than a guild. Think “alliance”. Servers are nothing more than a type of alliance. Mega-server would still require guilds to work inside an alliance structure. So when you speak of “loyalty” the game still requires some sort of relationship to the larger team to be maintained for there to be success in the match.

If they made a map that was totally flat, half the size of Alpine with none of the gimmicks… that place would be full of players. It is the size, spacing, maze-like style and gimmicks that turns players off.
That place would be full of players all standing around waiting to take turns fighting or just spectating the fights. That’s called the OS and is only a place for a certain type of player. I enjoy it personally, but I could never do that all the time.

Keep in mind I haven’t played WvW very much since HoT release as my guild and I are chasing after the other new shinies atm…
In the Alpine BL, the spacing between the towers and keeps created pressure on both offense and defense. An enemy holding a northern tower gave them a foothold to attack your garrison and you were forced to come recap the tower. The same thing occurred between the southeast tower and bay keep. This had the effect of encouraging a fight over the objectives. The so-called “PPT-for-fights” commanders frequently used this simple fact to manipulate an opponent into a response. I’d argue that most guilds and commanders in WvW understand this concept. Desert BL doesn’t seem to have any mechanisms for manipulating an opponent into a response outside of the Oasis event. (Maybe it does, maybe we’ll start being able to realize that after guilds can get upgraded to have WvW buffs. The new BL seems to encourage guilds more to claim an objective and camp it all night.)
Simplest fix: increase the range on trebuchets so that trebuchets at towers can hit keeps and become a threat again.
I wish I gave this feedback earlier during the beta but I was more focused on the up-close sieges rather than the map-as-a-whole.

Compare that to, for example, Caithe, who betrayed us, stole from us, and does even take a second and try to explain her motives to us
As I was telling a friend last night, Caithe’s motives are not as confusing if you played Sylvari because you already understand the Wyld Hunt. You had your own Wyld Hunt in the first act of your personal story and so when Trahearne steps into your story and proclaims his Wyld Hunt is to cleanse Orr you can 100% relate. If you played core as another race, your Act 1 racial narrative doesn’t get integrated as deeply into the main narrative as does Sylvari’s.
Going further about the Wyld Hunt, when Sylvaris were revealed as minions of Mordremoth, everyone’s Wyld Hunt became suspect to me. Sylvaris lead the attack on Zhaitan and the Marshal’s Wyld Hunt was to cleanse Orr. Sylvari were uncorruptable by Zhaitan. Were the Sylvari a “plant” by Mordremoth to destroy a rival Elder Dragon? I wonder if Trahearne felt extremely manipulated.
This is also why everyone now floods to EB.
That was happening before the new map too though….
I guess I’m lucky. I was able to solo the final chapter on my first attempt and I didn’t feel like it took an extraordinary amount of time. Maybe it has something to do with being able to burn through breakbars pretty fast on Scapper. Canach did take long. I used my supply crate to provide damage to him while I was playing ping pong with the bombs. Eventually I ditched the shield.

More like lack of experience causing a disconnect between how WvW players (who are PvPers at heart) view their toons.
I always liked him and the partnership that was built between him and the player character. Also I’m a sylvari player so he’s my brother from… uh, the same mother. I digress.
Yes, yes, yes. This right here. Everything in both the core personal story and HoT story makes way more sense if the player rolled sylvari. I’m so glad I chose sylvari for my first toon. HoT’s story ended up feeling personal as a result.
I am having the same problem. I received the hero points but the map marker is not updating.
Me too. It is the last thing I need for map completion on that toon. I used /bug in-game.
I’ve played through the entire HoT story on Scrapper. Function Gyro is just not noticeable at all, except for that red dot floating over my shoulder. Scrapper is all about that hammer.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying the hammer a lot. I just feel like an engineer with a hammer rather than something else.

Maybe this is a wrong conclusion? New PvE maps caused it, not new BL map. We really need to wait few weeks until people get bored with new PvE content and get back to WvW…
The fallacy of this argument is that if people were wow’d by the new BL maps they would play them in preference to grinding in pve land.
Not necessarily since there is stuff that cannot be unlocked by playing WvW. Even the Hero Points progression is currently broken/locked from WvW.

It isn’t necessarily on Anet’s end. A high latency network connection can have the same game symptoms. I’ve seen this timeout before where you can log in but can’t connect to a map when trying to connect from California to the EU datacenter without a VPN.
I don’t understand how the problem could originate from the user’s end here. All these people having similar issues at the same time? I could run the game perfectly earlier today and have changed nothing at all. I can connect to the internet just like normal. I shouldn’t have any issues connecting to the server.
It isn’t the users’ end any more than it is Anet’s end. It’s a peering issue on a network between the game servers and the end user.

If you timeout when trying to switch maps, you have to wait 15 minutes at least for the game system to clear before trying to log in again. If you try to log in right away, you get the message about not being able to log in immediately. Now you can log in again and just don’t change maps.

There seems to be a major internet backbone outage. I doubt ANet can do much about this one. If the backbone between you and ANet’s game server is down, then you’re going to have issues.

The chest, containing Proofs, being account bound is a bug. Earning specializations (skills and traits) is intended to be character progression. Ex: If you want to fully train up your warrior, you actually need to play your warrior for some amount of time.
No offence but that is a theoretical design principle that simply does not translate to desired practice. And I hope you don’t fix the ‘bug’. What does it matter that we transfer chests between characters on a practical level?
Ouch. Yea, longtime players in WvW know meta, and won’t generally follow commanders playing on a class other than guardian or warrior. ‘Real commanders’ drive on guardian. I miss my engi main sometimes…

At least they’re updating it. The Alpine BL still had several features shown in the map that no longer existed.
After recounting, I think I found one last one. The odd thing was it showed I had 24/26 POI both before and after I got Ascendant’s Ring.
Note: was playing on my engineer.
Ascendant’s Ring was one of two remaining POIs I needed for 100% map completion of Verdant Brink. When I got the POI last night, I got no credit for it. Now I have all the points discovered but only 25/26 POIs credited. Need map completion for collection item.
The boss event was up when I arrived at that POI, if that helps.

I haven’t played in WvW since Saturday. Why? Because I’m busying trying to grind out all these shiny new things so that I can get back into WvW with them and not be behind everyone else. Most of my guild feels the same, not wanting to be behind.

It should be looked at that ArenaNet is providing a form of consumer protection by naming authorized sellers when they are not obliged to, yet people are complaining about it? ArenaNet has no control over the business practices of unauthorized sellers so it is entirely incumbent upon the consumer to perform good due diligence.
I purchase directly from ArenaNet myself. I’d rather a larger cut of my transaction money go directly to the creator of something I enjoy rather than a third-party.

I would like to start by asking why such item is behind paywall when it clearly gives clear advantage to some1?
Don’t you have anyone in your guild/server who also purchased HoT?
I suspect you guys are overlooking the rolling average and the way it lags which allows “stacking” to occur without it being reflected for awhile in the population status. Don’t use just this weekend as an example. SoS has been competitive against TC and FA for the past three weeks at least, the entire tier has been relatively balanced for the past month as guilds have moved in and/or returned for the xpac (i.e. TSYM). Change is always visible in hindsight.

When HoT was released and my guild went exploring the new map on Friday, we noticed the lack of resource nodes. Looks like they were added later. NODE almost needed to lodge a formal complaint.
I like those pop-ups but I can see how they would be annoying. I agree it would be nice to have an option to turn them off.
