How does claiming a server has a problem with being at the low end of population aid your argument to manipulate the scoring around player population, when that server continues to win?

If players were organized and hive minded enough to make this mythical spreadsheet
“have made attempts to create equalized populations, going so far as to use spreadsheets to ensure the NA time zone can remain competitively equal” then we would not have steep population imbalances.

For someone so quick to accuse me of not knowing of what I speak, thank you for writing this. Did you really believe that the recent two month balance between NA populations in Maguuma/SBI/CD and subsequent glicko-locking just happened naturally? All this makes me believe that you aren’t even aware of what a certain BG guild did to prop up JQ’s NA population over a year ago now when JQ was at risk of being replaced by SoS in T1.

The NA population on those servers struggle to be competitive in the tiers they are in because of the server’s Glicko rating just as the OCX population on servers like Mag, FA, and YB struggle to be competitive.

I’m just going to say something some won’t want to hear.

What about the capping when some servers who lack NA Prime players lose what they have to servers with a large NA prime player base. To be honest most in this thread only seem to be thinking of “night capping” as happening during OCX/SEA/EU times, when in reality it varies server to server, tier to tier, and sometimes week to week.

That’s the point. We call it “night-capping” as a shorthand for what happens score-wise when any timezone has an unbalanced or highly unequal population between all three servers. That term doesn’t sit well with certain posters, but who cares when there is no better term to use?

Servers like JQ, SoS, DB, and IoJ historically fall into the category of servers that do not have a majority NA Prime population. I’d argue that the scoring system is a contributing factor to those servers’ need for NA players after three years since launch! The NA population on those servers struggle to be competitive in the tiers they are in because of the server’s Glicko rating just as the OCX population on servers like Mag, FA, and YB struggle to be competitive. The truth of the matter is that it isn’t fun to be severely outnumbered or to severely outnumber no matter which timezone you play in. The uglier truth is that most lone guilds are not willing to take the risk to be the first to try to equalize the population (there are rare exceptions) and some actually enjoy outnumbering the opponent because it makes winning easier. No one likes not being able to call for reinforcements.

Players, particularly the more competitively minded GvG players, have made attempts to create equalized populations, going so far as to use spreadsheets to ensure the NA timezone can remain competitively equal (reference semi-recent T2 exodus to T3). The effect of that though is stagnation of matches, which can also be undesirable.

Time-sliced scoring OK, but still doesn’t solve the issue with populations on one server not finding anyone to fight against on another server. Without needing to change scoring, have time-sliced glicko rating and match-ups. DB’s SEA can compete in their timezone against T3’s SBI SEA while DB’s NA can compete in their timezone against T4 servers. IoJ’s NA would be competitive in T8 while IoJ’s OCX would find competition in T5. LOL. Yea that won’t happen.

if you use the Scrapper specialization but do not use Hammer or any of the gyros in your build, you don’t feel any difference at all, unlike the elite specializations for the other professions.

The Function Gyro is the new mechanic. It is always there and available. Unfortunately it feels more like something in the way than something useful. Chaith’s suggested change for Function Gyro would go a long way towards changing that.

I was playing Scrapper with Elixirs. I used Elixir X and got Tornado form. Suddenly I was stuck. There’s no immob or daze. I have stab. I had to stop pressing the forward button in order to become unstuck.

This bug seems to have been re-introduced for the beta weekend because it is occurring on my main guardian too now when before the beta it wasn’t happening.

Please do not do this. If players have to do a month-long blackout to try to cheat the new system, that is far and away above only having to do a blackout for only a single night. Many things in this game can change within a month because that’s a really long time for more players.

It’s not? TC has two largish SEA guilds: TFV and AHMA. FA and SoS are both not full servers with a scattering of SEA guilds. SEA guilds on FA and SoS have plenty to fight.

I felt that HGH might-stacking was still superior to Juggernaut+Mass Momentum because yea, you have to camp in FT to sustain the stacks, which wasn’t allowing me to experience the hammer too much as a weapon.

Function Gyro just got in my way whenever I went to stomp or rez someone. As I was not used to it, other players stomped my kill before I did because it took me too long to realize my toon wasn’t performing the stomp animation because the Function Gyro was trying to.

For one it is a fact that altering the score to scale to a lower max value is very much in fact, “lesser” value.

But how? How are non-peak player efforts of equal worth to peak players? I keep asking this simple question but no one has provided a rational and logical answer yet. Instead they just dodge it like you’re dodging it now.

Yes, it is simple math. SMC is worth 35 points every 15 minutes. If your server is able to keep SMC for 3 hours for the simple reason that the opposing servers have only 5 players on trying to flip it and prevent upgrades compared to your 30, that’s worth 420 points. How is that in any way equal to SMC constantly flipping for 3 hours (12 ticks) between all three servers during a timezone where all three servers are of relatively equal strength where it would be next to impossible for one side to gain all 420 points?

Strategic and tactical skill during peak 3-way population times in capping SMC is demonstrated by which of the three servers is able to cap SMC the most before the tick over those 3 hours. The PPT system currently does not reward that. Instead it rewards the server that holds SMC for all three hours without challenge and punishes the players who play during peak times when forces are fairly balanced across all three servers in a timezone.

it is irrational in my opinion to suggest that much is “equal” in WvW with consistent changes in the rivals player counts and professions they are using at any given moment.

You wrote that efforts by non-peak players would be worth lesser of a point value compared to peak players. To move to a state of being “lesser” implies moving from a state of equality between the two sets of players. To say otherwise is both irrational and illogical.

Claims? You appear confused. I never made any claims my friend. I simply stated “in my experience……..”. I rather specifically qualified each post I made with one statement or another expressing that my comments were my opinion based on my experience.

I didn’t address your “in my experience” line which is not even from the post I quoted. Nowhere in the post of yours I quoted did you qualify anything. You appear rather confused. I understand. In PvP parlance, your rhetoric style is called dodging.

Tell us how non-peak player efforts are of equal worth to peak player efforts in the current system. How is 30 players spending three hours to cap a single keep equal in points to 10 players capping an entire borderland in 10 minutes? Maybe you’ll have a leg to stand on when you say that weighting PPT by population creates inequality instead of dodging all the time.

So the only way to avoid it 100% is not to use your sword 3 on revenant (which is the main damage) or stay out of range since sword has only melee attacks as major damage.

Now he’s learning to play. XD

Switch to hammer to stay at range. Bait out the slick shoes before engaging with sword 3!

Slick Shoes is there in that Engi build for a reason. If you jump in and expect to just win, you deserve to get knocked down for 6-8 seconds.

However, if a JP just happened to be the scenery you fought over, for example lets say a Tower was a JP that you have to navigate and fight over to capture it, then that would be fine. Providing you got no reward for doing it other than capturing the tower. If you had to complete a JP to get to a keep, that would be fine too, so long as there is no reward for doing it other than getting to the keep.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was the original intent of the JPs. There was a connection to the war effort before superior siege blueprints account bound status was changed to allow to be sold on the TP. Commanders used to run pugs into the JPs in order to get some free siege blueprints to be used for the night.

Aside from that, I consider it extremely important to have something “fun” and seemingly unrelated to the effort of the game mode in a game mode that is 24/7 and 365 days which is why I asked about a hidden cat room. If anything, leaders use “fun” stuff like that (jp, hidden cat room, grub, arboreal spirit, etc.) to keep morale up, which is arguably the most important element to “war effort”.

So the problem is you went into a fight against a class known to be strong with CCs unprepared with stability (on a class with easy access to stab lol)/etc. and don’t have any insta-cast stunbreaks or damage mitigation on knockdown/etc. in your build? Got it.

i cant understand how all these people dont like running lots of kits. I actually don’t like to play builds with less than two kits.

weapon swap would be nice, but not worth the nerfs. id rather not have to have a 10sec weapon swap cd & be nerfed.

I would suggest the reason you don’t like to play builds with less than two kits is due to the lack of weapon swap. As others have pointed out here kits have become the de-facto class mechanic for Engineer. I like playing with kits too. If I’m not running kits, I feel extremely constrained in the same way everyone felt constrained when playing Revenant before it was given weapon swap. I’d just like to maybe be able to play Engineer without kits too sometime.

Why would kits need to be nerfed for weapon swap? I’m not seeing that. Adding weapon swap to Scrapper and playing it with kits would put Scrapper on par with Revenant in terms of complexity and interest.

success in WvW is also frankly a matter of effort, recruitment, and keeping up morale. Those WvW communities which do the best job at convincing their players to show up night after night (day after day) and play should be rewarded. Those communities which are more highly organized and manage to recruit populations during all time slots should be rewarded. This is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week match; an ultramarathon, not a sprint. Weighting the PPT score based on current population completely negates this second aspect of success in WvW, rendering community efforts to recruit players from various time slots and to increase player turnout during a given time slot useless.

I agree with you in this. But there’s a fault in the logic. You’re making an assumption that all the players have the same goal: to highly organize a single server. And yet we see that doesn’t always hold true; from the players who enjoy the feel of “winning” by ktraining to the GvG/fights players who don’t care about server organization.

Specific servers in this game have been trying to recruit for specific timezones since launch. There have been some successes here and there, but for the most part servers are still trying to recruit for those timezones, even in T1 where JQ always has had weak NA. Where are the players for those timezones and why don’t they want to go there? I suggest that they don’t want to be recruited. Now I’m not saying that PPT should be weighted, only going to suggest that the current scoring system contributes to players deciding not to be recruited.

I was not a fan of weapon swap for Engineer because of kits, something I enjoyed. If Engineer didn’t have kits then it would make a lot of sense. The lack of a weapon swap actually is a big reason why we get locked into kits IMHO. But then I played Scrapper without kits and felt like a warrior without weapon swap.

At one time I thought Revenant would get additional skills to select with each Legend since swapping Legends seemed to be analogous, but no other skills were announced so I can see the wisdom in adding weapon swapping for that class.

Since they did that, Revenant is a lot more complex to play which makes it interesting. If they added weapon swapping to Engineer, my interest level would increase with the complexity.

I play on JQ, FA, NS, and ET on the NA side. I have 4 EU accounts on different tiers as well. I have various friend I like to play with from my different out of game communities as well as several friends from my varies duty stations with the military after 16 years in EU on active duty. So I spread it out quit often. Why do you ask?

Try playing on DB and IoJ.

Given that allied boons and other AoE effects only apply to a max of five allies, can we just lock squads to subsquads of five members each (unless there was a plan to increase the number of allies that such skills affect)? It’ll be micromanagement to get players into subsquads once more than 5 people join a squad.

When BWE3 started, we’re experiencing the bug again where a player gets rooted in place when CC removes a stack of stability. There’s no stun/daze/etc and no immob when this occurs. Cannot move again until hands are taken off the movement buttons. I thought it was just some issues with Scrapper during beta but tonight in our WvW rally we still experienced it and my guild members reported that they also are having that issue.

I honestly don’t get why it matters to some people still. PPT doesn’t matter except for 1-3 bonus chests, but those don’t have anything good… so why worry about PPT?

PPT is the scoring system. It directly affects how populations are matched up against each other.

I got permission to share these:

The data is from coveragewars2.com. This is basically NA servers ranked by their average glicko ratings BY TIMEZONE. One can see where the different timezones have stacked.

Sept 18 to Sept 25

Sept 25 to Oct 2

I don’t know if it was discussed in the past. Slice the matches up by timezone and match the servers in the match by timezone strength. Like the T3 match during SEA should be DB/SBI/MAG while the other timezones should be CD/SBI/MAG. LOL. Then ya’ll can figure out real quick why players who were always interested in more balanced matches migrated up tiers until we’ve achieved ratings stagnation; who is a real fairweather and who enjoys challenges.

Video that highlights the animation delays with [Rocket Charge] on the hammer in WvW. Players with swiftness are almost able to outrun the leap. Compare my toon position with players around me. Compare at 35 seconds with [Rocket Boots]. This negates the leap as both a tag catch-up utility and utility to leap to enemy players running away.

You do understand that when you make declarations, unless you have any evidence to support it, that it means absolutely nothing right?

Clearly you have a lot of evidence to support some declarations of your own, no?

Please answer, how does the current system treat various players equally based on their normal playtime?

Seconding Aerial Melodies suggestion. I also noticed I couldn’t see the boons/condi status and wished for an option along the lines of the “simple party ui” option.

We also had trouble understanding how to make sub-squads. It is not intuitive. Dragging wasn’t quite working and I fumbled with right-clicking on people without seeing an option. Someone figured out that sub-squads are made by dragging the person “up” to under your own name, not down to the next line like what would be intuitive.

Forming a party and then starting a squad and having to wait for the people who were in my party to accept the invite to squad was a bit odd. Should just auto-add those players to the squad.

The other thing I noticed was starting a raid type squad, if a squad member entered the raid I could no longer invite anyone else to the squad. It said the person I was inviting was in a full party or full on guilds.

finishers more often in pve?

Currently we can use them in PVE on one type of toxic creature mainly in kessex hill and gendaran fields. I am sure there is some historical reason for this. Anyway, why not generally allow them in PVE, or at least let a few more types of common monsters have the ability to use them? If the logic is ‘well, they are humanoid’ what about bandits, separatists, the nightmare court, svanir, and so on?

If you want to see your finisher more, play a PvP game mode. Allow PvPers to have their defining features and skins The logic is that finishers are for PvP, not for eye candy. The point of the different finishers is for bragging rights. NPCs don’t feel anything from getting stomped, hence there’s no reason to have them in PvE and as was pointed out, it can be annoying for PvE players to have that stomp delay.

Jumping Puzzle

Glad to see there are no plans to add JP’s to the borderlands map. WvW should be about worlds fighting each other, not players jumping around a puzzle. There will be plenty more JP’s in the PvE areas of HoT I’m sure. Lets keep the BL focused on conflict please.

How could anyone say that the OS JP was not a place of conflict? The QQ on these forums about it was epic.
