Lol what a joke. Reset = 5am Sunday for OCX players and 2-3am Sunday for SEA players. Great job now 2 entire timezones probably won’t be able to play reset in addition to losing half the weekend of competitive WvW.
Double the eff you to SEA/OCX players.
Don’t worry, most NA people won’t bother playing at reset either since it’s in the morning/middle of the day and you know, maybe, people have things to do during daylight hours. Evenings are when people generally head to their computers or TVs to relax, that’s why Friday evening was a great reset time (for OCX/SEA too). This change in day/time is a joke.
I’ll be at my kids’ soccer games. :-)
Right? This actually encourages less alt play.
If you want more people to experience the rush of reset, have more resets.
Also, have reset on Friday, give employees Friday off, have them come into work on Sunday instead. Bam, extra day. Just an idea :-)
I think it’s not fair to take words out of context. I don’t think they were talking about server performance.
Exactly! I thought it was obvious he’s refering to the reset process and match-making roll process. Please close this thread too.
Are you in an EU match? EU reset already occurred so yes, the rating at the end of this match will not count.
NA reset doesn’t occur for another few hours.
Yea, if you WvW rarely, you don’t really need to all be on the same server.
Or send some of your members to FA so you can do war RP: enemies, spies, star-crossed lovers.
Fort Aspenwood has spy WvW rp?! oH CRAP I JUST GOT THIS. That’s actually an insanely good idea! FA or SoS!
The only downside is you all have to be in a party or squad to communicate and can’t use custom /me emotes.

Mark a server such as CD or HoD as low until it gets a 100 or so transfers.
The problem I see with that is unless they are keeping track of which accounts are counted towards “WvW activity”, they have no way of knowing if a transfer is an active WvW player. We don’t know if individual accounts are tracked in that manner.
What is often done in engineering optimizations where the system gets stuck in a local minimum (Monte Carlo is sort of like this) is to add a small random term to the balancing. a) It is more likely to give more even matchups in the long run and b) this will make for more variable and potentially more fun matchups.
There is already randomization. The problem is that the variance for match-making is set too low for NA servers.
The WvW side of the game has always been based around PvE while PvP has traditionally had everything unlocked immediately. Yea, this is gonna suck…
As for SoS being ganged up on, look at the map. It looks like a red/green Christmas decoration for the last couple days.
Sometimes it takes players hindsight to see some change.
The population calculation uses a rolling average and it won’t catch up with all the transfers since transfers are not immediately removed/added to the average. It seems like it will take like 3-4 weeks before the transfers into SoS show up in the rolling average. So unfortunately it is very easy to stack still.
Another thing to consider is, when are you playing Straegen? Because some days FA is stronger than SoS in a timeslot and some days not and that’s due to guild raid schedules.
Reset is 9PM EST, not 7.
Sry thinking of an older reset but even that 6:00 pdt is still early for a lot of ppl on the west cost for NA.
Still its about getting ppl the abitly to play on reset even ppl who work 2ed and 3ed sift are able to play reset if its on an Saturday and not just the 1st shift workers for Friday nights. No worries. I remember when it was earlier too. I think maybe we need a rolling reset. 9PM EST Friday one week, advance by 12 hours next week, then again by 12 hours, then back to 9PM EST Friday.
No one will be 100% happy, but everyone will get to participate.
Let’s not start confusing daylight savings time with reset change. Reset occurs in UTC, which has no daylight savings time. Reset will be back to 5pm Pacific very soon.
If you fear that the karma-friday become a karma-saturday, then it’s up to you real world versus world players to deny such request.
Defend structures, crash your zerg into the opposite karmatrain, hunt them until they log off or fight back.
I think you misunderstand the lack of care that occurs at the end of a match when the score is not close. Now at least no one will feel they are wasting gold on upgrades. There is still siege that will disappear because of reset.
Come on, Anet! Not only OCX/SEA will be affected. Like what was written above, a lot of us are adults with real life responsibilities. The weekends are our true playtimes. You’ll be cutting a whole day out of all our playtime.
You also need to keep in mind of your international playerbase. This moves reset to Sunday to everyone in OCX/SEA, leaving Saturday with those players with nothing to do other than K-train/night cap an already decided matchup.
Exactly! Not only does this hurt guild membership that has been built up around current reset and raid schedules, it hurts OCX and SEA the most, possibly even EU players on NA servers. They should really move reset to Thursday nights, hurr hurr.
Kind of a weird change.
This will mess over WvW guild scheduling for guilds that specifically set their rallies for reset or avoid reset. The kind of impact to guild membership on who is available or not for the new schedule is unforseen.
S/D isn’t viable because it takes a modicum of effort?
The thief expert in my guild runs S/D. XD
It’s already been qq’d about multiple times. No it doesn’t have to do with “being built around stealth” either. Your statement begs the question just what do you think engineer is “built around”?
Read a bit about thief traits – most of it is tied to stealth – take that away and thief has got no access to condi cleanse, regeneration, damage migation and so on.
Engi might have access to stealth but the class can well live without it, just like rangers and mesmers. Not entirely true. If you make your build completely reliant on Shadow Arts, that’s your weakness. And you didn’t address my statement regarding thief having the best access to stealth.
So you are saying to completely ignore a whole trait line that is so let dependent on stealth.
No I didn’t say that, but thank you for putting words in my mouth.

WTH? Theives get a pass but Engineer’s bomb on dodge still reveals them?
Since engineers aren’t build around stealth it is fair, I think – you can however make a thread and demand that engineers won’t be revealed upon dodging and leaving a bomb – I don’t care =)
It’s already been qq’d about multiple times. No it doesn’t have to do with “being built around stealth” either. Your statement begs the question just what do you think engineer is “built around”? Engineer has rather good access to stealth through skills, traits, and fields and even the elite on the new Scrapper specialization. Of course no other class with stealth is on par with thief access to stealth, which is why it would be more fair for thief to be revealed due to damage on dodge. Thief can re-stealth easier.
thieves can have caltrops on dodge which revealed them, so that was changed and it is important that the caltrops don’t reveal them still (dodging in SR is basically a must).
WTH? Theives get a pass but Engineer’s bomb on dodge still reveals them?
It’s not a hack! Please don’t report players using this tonic. Someone already mistakenly got banned for it (and subsequently unbanned).
WvW has always been a server community game mode with its point system. It isn’t about an individual. It isn’t about a guild. It isn’t about a time zone. It’s about the entire server. If your server is lacking presence in one of the time zones, your position is going to suffer.
ANet shouldn’t do anything about this, because anything they do would be unfair to the off-hours players. Instead of waiting for ANet to make a change, do something yourself:
1. Actively recruit in other timezones. Create forum posts that your server is looking for guilds in whatever zones you’re lacking in. Work to patch the hole in your presence if you care about your server’s rank that much.
2. Leave your server and join one at the tier you want to be in. You have control over your personal enjoyment. Take control, or take responsibility that the choice you are making is going to be frustrating at times. That isn’t ANet’s fault. The system has been the same for 3 years, so you know what you’re getting into.
3. Enjoy the fights you find in your prime time and stop worrying about overall rank. Servers are constantly in flux, with guilds leaving, joining, leaving again. And if rank really matters that much to you, join a high rank server so you can feel like you’re of high rank. Whatever you need to do to enjoy yourself.
Population and coverage have always been two key factors in server placement. Why is only coverage the frustrating one that needs to be “fixed”? It’s like saying your lower population is better than another server’s in prime time, so based on how many players you have logged into WvW, your PPT should be multiplied by a factor of the difference from the other servers.
WvW doesn’t mollycoddle an individual’s sense of worth. It’s an open and fair system to the entire server community, and I don’t think there’s any reason to change it.
This already happens, but it isn’t ideal because there is almost no transparency. Most people make their decisions based on hearsay.
And yes Anet can do something about this by providing server communities with better tools. Adding mega-server to Lion’s Arch took away one of those tools.
I feel ya!
I play mostly from 9pm PST to midnight PST. Over a year ago now on my server I was the last commander tag on all four maps most nights. I dealt with all the NA logging off and no one logging in to replace them since OCX Prime was still 3-4 hours away. The hours between NA Prime and OCX Prime are the longest between primetimes that no other timezone deals with. I’d witness all our waypoints lost as we were 2v1’d almost every night because we didn’t have enough people on and no guilds whatsoever.
Some of my servermates and I still recall fondly a defense of our home bl garrison during Season 2 from around 11pm PST to 3am PST. We stayed up so late, even the EST players with me, because we were having so much fun with the intense 2v1 fights to defend the last remaining thing we had on all maps. A newish commander even tagged up and took over to continue and she did quite well.
Today, my server is the strongest in the match during this timeslot. We tick close to 400 during my rally hours. TBH it sucks, especially if one of the EST commanders decide to stay up late because he’s having fun. Late PST is such a sensitive timezone. There aren’t very many guilds and what there is usually are under 10-man havoc guilds. Most of the West Coast players with more flexible schedules all join EST or CST guilds because the fights are much more balanced during NA Prime. I may need to scale back my raids again.

My understanding was that the character created date shouldn’t change — the server transfer makes the most sense to me as a likely culprit (since one of our time formats stores the time as an integer minutes value).
F2P accounts can’t transfer servers?
As competitive balance is starting to increase in T2, Fort Aspenwood feels like it is in the right place pre-HoT. SoS still has the most room to grow while FA hovers close to Full with all the recent transfers this week.
If you are SEA or OCX we would still love to have you! Players in EU though should consider SoS and players in other timezones should look into T3 servers as we are not interested in having an overstacked T2 again, especially since TC is currently Full and locked for transfers.
After HoT is released, things will possibly change so much that none of what I wrote here will be true.
See this handy spreadsheet.

Dancingmonkey and coglin, this is how to have a good conversation that advances forward about a subject.
It doesn’t make sense to me to implement a weighted scoring system advocating for population-based equality in a game mode that was never designed to have balanced populations in the first place.
And it doesn’t make sense to have a scoring system designed for teams of equal size in a game mode that doesn’t have teams of equal size. PPT is always weighted in favor of the team with the larger size, which has had the result of rendering it meaningless with veteran WvW players. Points-per-cap makes much more sense and also avoids the complexity that a population-weighted scoring system would have.
Honestly, if this were sPvP I’d agree with you. There are no barriers blocking the capture points in sPvP and increasing the time to cap. Players often try to create artificial barriers using bunker builds, but even those have their limitations — other players can simply rotate around the bunkers.
But in WvW the maps and objectives themselves are designed (at least in theory) to act as a buffer, allowing some parity between teams of unequal sizes. The increased time to cap from walls/gates, choke points at objectives, the use of siege, all allow a smaller defensive team to hold off a larger offensive team.
So yes, PPT as a scoring system is usually used for teams of equal size, and WvW is not designed for teams of equal size. But WvW already compensates for this by using map mechanics to try even out the effect of population imbalances. If those mechanics are working properly, there shouldn’t be a need to also modify the score to even out population imbalances.
Many would argue (and I would agree) that the WvW mechanics implemented thus far over the past three years have not been enough of a buffer against enemy teams that outnumber yours. Anet seems to believe this too, since they are buffing defending with HoT (T3 gates, guild upgrades that boost defense, larger borderlands map that takes longer to traverse). I’m frankly a bigger fan of this solution — buffing map mechanics to compensate for population imbalances — rather than modifying the scoring system to deal with it.
As far as PPC (points per capture), I get where it could help, but I also fear that it would just end up making everything an EotM-style k-train, since defending objectives would no longer net teams any points (it would simply deny points to enemy teams).
Agreed. All the mechanics that go into defense allow for some parity between teams of unequal size. The downside of trying to balance offense/defense for unequal teams occurs during peak times where population is relatively equal between teams. Currently it requires an attacking force to bring roughly twice the number of defenders and I hope that really doesn’t change because I’d hate to see an attacking force require three times the number of defenders. Players are already greatly turned off by long sieges if they don’t have adequate numbers to attack. You’re already familiar with my post in the WvW Beta map subforum about the Long Siege and Player Interest. We have yet to hear about reward changes for WvW. Better rewards could help. Greater points given for having to put more effort into a cap like performing a long siege could also help.
Commanders will get hung for running their zergs off cliffs! Oh the humanity!

Like, there’s other GOOD reasons for why weighted PPT might not be a good solution. Attacking the idea as “unequal” is not one of them. How weighted PPT might be used to game the system, how it would affect the gaming experience when populations are at the border of triggering the weighted PPT scoring system, on the other hand is.
No, it actually is a very good reason to attack it.
When you have a section of the community that believes giving different scoring values based on bias reasons, as equal, then it is important to educate them.
Prove it then. Educate people.
You say that weighted PPT would give different scoring values yet you continue to ignore how the system currently gives different scoring values because you continue to look only at it as “SMC is worth 35 points” instead of “SMC is worth 35 points every 15 minutes”. Until you acknowledge that WvW uses a score-over-time system which is best used for teams of equal size, you are not educating anyone of anything. You are only showing us how you are trying to cherry-pick certain features of the scoring system to fit your arguments.
“Yes, it is simple math. SMC is worth 35 points every 15 minutes. If your server is able to keep SMC for 3 hours for the simple reason that the opposing servers have only 5 players on trying to flip it and prevent upgrades compared to your 30, that’s worth 420 points. How is that in any way equal to SMC constantly flipping for 3 hours (12 ticks) between all three servers during a timezone where all three servers are of relatively equal strength where it would be next to impossible for one side to gain all 420 points?”
(edited by Chaba.5410)
You cannot reasonably call a system that artificially gives different score values, at different times, for different reasons, to different groups, and label it as “equally”. Because it is very factually the definition of unequal.
If he was proposing such a system, yea it would not be equal, but he’s not proposing such a system. The weighted PPT he’s talking about would not be “different score values” applied “for different reasons” to “different groups”. That’s not even good game design (games with constantly changing rules do exist!). The system he’s proposing would be “same exact score values as every other low population times” applied “for one exact reason: population differences greater than x” to “one exact group: the population that vastly outnumbers the others” and this would be the same rule applied to all servers.

I don’t get it. I expected to see some sort of formula applied that shows how you are correlating K/D to estimated population. These charts don’t make sense in how you did the ranking.
I miss many skins that are supposed to be updated into my account because i owned them before the update but had them deleted for inventory space
There was no “unlocking” a skin before the Wardrobe was introduced. If you deleted something, you lost that skin.
Are there really no other videos of WvW Scrapper play, especially in zergs? Seems like a sad indication of how marginalized Engineer has become in the WvW game mode.
Nightmare too.

I totally agree. I play in OCX time and every time I wake up I find my PPT efforts thwarted by NA night forces. They definitely need to reduce the proportion of PPT ticks during NA time.
Wait wha-?
That’s especially true if your own server’s NA is the weakest in the match. Which is why the discussion for weighted PPT scoring centers around times when the populations between all three servers are not of roughly equal size, not the specific timezone you play in. If the NA on your server is competitively balanced with the NA on the other servers (or your OCX population has good competition against the other servers OCX), then it isn’t “night-capping”.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
I have been in plenty of match-ups where the enemy have gained a rather good lead during the night, and yet at the end of the day the other servers had caught up and often also bypassed it.
Piken Square? Then I’ll assume you’ve never played on an NA server with this statement and especially never against Dragonbrand.
Come for the fights against TC in SEA! Everyone is having fun again.
FA’s OCX is building up again. SEA players will benefit! Join this guild before it is too late.
each gyro performs one function i dont see why they cant be unkillable like signets with gyros as visual effects except for stealth gyro
Exactly. You have a passive effect and an active effect on target that goes on cooldown. No buggy AI. No HP issues. Usable in multiple game modes.
Feature Request: Slice the new K/D ratio by timezone like you do for PPT and glicko rating.
XD
It would help if you could describe your gear and what traits you used to use.
IMHO Revenant will help usher in melee pushes again.
What makes you think this? Just wondering?
Seems to me, Rev stab is weak.
I pugmand quite a bit which requires gaining a “feel” for how the zerg performs. During BWE2, it just felt easier to make pushes when there were Revenants spamming the dwarf road in my zerg. Yea, completely subjective, but it is what it is.
If the JP’s are a way to get free blueprints then I guess that is ok, but in my opinion it is not much of a contribution when you can get them from the TP/vendors for a small amount of coin.
See, this is one of those “cruft” things in WvW. Blueprints used to be account bound and could only be bought for badges or obtainable through the JPs. Just like you can look at the Alpine Borderlands map and see how they haven’t updated the old orb area.
But yea, I agree it seems kind of a waste to have something as large as a JP be unrelated to the war effort. A hidden cat room on the other hand, morale doesn’t need something as large as a JP.
It’s already been said by Anet devs that they don’t want a population biased scoring because it could lead to players harassing others on the same team that want to play.
Do you have any link for that statement and how recent was it?
It has to be over a year old, maybe two. We were discussing scoring and the thought of score based upon players on a map was brought up. The dev didn’t like the idea that a massive blob could flip an entire map and then leave the map while intimidating any who entered the map.
If I was good at searching three years of posts I’d find it.
I remember too a dev saying about how they didn’t want the outnumbered buff to be buffed in such a way that would incentivize players to troll servermates from a map.
IMHO Revenant will help usher in melee pushes again.
