Ah being realistic, you know that wouldn’t entirely happen. One only has to read the posts on this forum from players returning to the game and asking about how to get into a Full server because their guild had moved there to know there’s some practicality being lost in the idea.

Not sure what you mean. In a Guild Alliance system there would be no full servers or matches. The matching system will prioritize allied guilds/players into the same faction in a match. Players that have no alliances or enemies will be put into factions/matches that most need them for population/coverage balance.

OP mentioned alliances being Full and there being a smaller number of alliances than servers. Basically a server merge idea floated under a different name.

You gotta wonder how Alliances would work with regards to the casual and solo player who remains on the server they are on because they enjoy the community of that server and has a reasonable expectation that they will always be a member of that community without having to join WvW all the time.

In a true Guild Alliance system, they would ally themselves with guilds they enjoy playing with. Each week when the guilds are shuffled into factions for a matchup, players/guilds that are allies will likely be sorted together.

nah there were no dailies when the krait farm zergs were around. its was pve bots. thats how we used to farm badges…..kill the bots, but they lagged out the entire map and messed with the outmanned buff and the map cap

Oh man you’re going waaaay back. I remember zergs of bots doing nothing but escorting yaks. When I saw that I decided not to play for a few months until the game mode had matured.

Game freeze in the guild hall

I noticed a lot of lag when opening the guild panel from within the guild hall, regardless of talking to npcs. Happens with 32 bit client too.

we are fully capable and very much enjoy PvP AND PvE missions, so we’d have to weekly rotate those PLUS lose the 10% extra favor for doing the random selections.

The 10% extra favor for random selections is one of the issues here.

I really wish we could select from at least two of the preferences at once, like WvW and PvP or WvW and PvE.

You may notice I left off some routes, for example going from SE spawn to NW tower and SW spawn to NE tower. The NE, NW, SE, and SW areas have a lot of overlap and alternate routes which I think players will be able to figure out on their own.

I’ll be making one last video about some additional N-S and E-W routes that are both for offense and defense.

Has anyone figured out the greyed out Hi-res textures checkbox? My system doesn’t have it greyed out. Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 here. Could that be related to the reported blurriness? Or that sounds more like Anti-aliasing settings issues?

As i asked in another thread, members of multi-server guilds have it very hard to do WvW missions: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-missions-and-multi-server-guilds

Unfortunately, the old WvWers want to keep amongst themselves, and are totally against an influx of casual players that are not strongly tied to their server.

So the answer is (unfortunately): Do PvE missions, your guild is not welcome in WvW, as it has no server pride.

That’s kind of a rotten assumption to say that the difficulty is caused by old WvWers wanting to keep something amongst themselves. If your guild is multi-server and you want to do WvW missions, that is a choice your guild makes, not “old WvWers”. Your ability to perform WvW missions as a multi-server guild is up to your guild to decide how to perform them. Anet provides the ability to declare Mixed, PvP, PvE, or WvW missions.

One night we came across some three players from the same guild at NE Camp with arrow carts placed around it. I said in TS these guys must be doing their guild mission. We killed them but then left the camp and didn’t cap it. Unfortunately two other pugs that were following my guild capped it even though we put in say chat please do not do that.

I felt kind of bad because I know it must be frustrating and difficult for the smaller guilds.

That’s what Emergency Waypoint is supposed to be for. It isn’t available until guild level 31 though. Most guilds I’m familiar with are only at level 15 so we’re talking like another 2 months before we start seeing something like that in game.

Ran Proxemics last night with 14 guild members. Only 3 got a shakey chest. I was not one of those three. Looking at the mission panel, the chest is still closed for me and says I am eligible for rewards. I do not do missions with another guild.

The Alpine BL was carefully designed with the ranges of trebs in mind. The Desert BL threw out those concerns. I have yet to see anything taken by trebs.

We mentioned the utterly pointless positioning of NET and NWT to Tyler during the beta when he was on the map with us, but it too late in the design phase for them to really do anything about it imo.

Honestly the WvW team really just needs to get the community involved in the design process much, much earlier.

Yea in beta the placement of the waypoints was also talked about. I was disappointed that they were not moved back to the side keeps. (was also disappointed that the waypoint bug still existed where enemy could use it at the spawn towers) It devalues the keeps in such a way where players question why own them.

For me, the Desert BL has been promoting a different strategy, one where we focus our attention on one side of the map more than we did with Alpine. So far most of our activity has been around the NE or NW corners while we hold both the tower and keep and make pokes at garrison. TC had a guild working as defenders on their BL so we were able to get consistent action most of the night without having to go to EBG. SoS even managed to show up in garrison a few times.

“Players threatening towers and keeps” is definitely a different style of play, one that is not very obvious and a big change from the original WvW where towers and keeps threatened each other, for better or for worse.

Outnumbered fights almost always required clever use of terrain. In no way was tactical movement limited other than by player creativity or lack thereof. The new map has quite a diversity of terrain with plenty of open space. It is also rather good to have a lack of open space right nearby the objectives since the proximity of siege in objectives was always a source of friction for those players fighting right outside Bay, for example.

If by “good” you mean most of the population dislikes that style and won’t even go to the map, then yeah that diversity of terrain is “good”.

Until players go to the new map, my point stands. Big maps with complex terrain and NPC gimmicks are an antithesis to enjoyable WvW game play for most WvW players.

If a map design reduces the friction between two sets of players: those who enjoy siege/defense and those who enjoy open field PvP, then that is good in that the design achieved the goal of something that players in the two sets had essentially been asking for. It means entering a map and not seeing players qq at each other for cowing two guilds trying to open field and the resultant action of guild going to supply/siege troll in retaliation. That’s a good thing!

I’ve gotten enough action on the new bl (during PST) without having to go to EBG this past weekend during my rally. Your point does not stand I guess.

The ruins were hailed as an improvement by only a subset of the population. Another set cried foul due to the Minor and Major Bloodlust stat increases, which if anyone remembers, had gotten nerfed rather quickly.

Can satisfy only some of the people some of the time.

@Zioba, I remember it was 50 because everyone would curse about how long it took. Hehe.

You need three people for it to count supposedly. An allied guild tried to do a sentry take mission and they had three people capping sentries, but not three people at each sentry they capped. They were not getting credit towards the mission for the caps.

I recommend changing your mission preference to the PvE missions if you are not all on the same server. There’s a gear icon on the mission panel that lets you choose.

I’d just prefer not to call open world PvP “WvW” because it isn’t. Open world PvP is fights on a map with terrain and stuff and no score. I enjoy both open world PvP and WvW.

The Home Borderland Concept : Good or Bad? [Merged]

Might still sounds good at this point, but when you realize that what this promote is a gameplay where every server is sitting on their fully capped map thinking : “Is someone coming to attack us soon? It’s been 1 hour since the last attack…” you get how bad the idea is. The end result of controlling 100% of the map is to kill the activity on that map. WvW needs more constant actions not map lock down.

This is an interesting question. I seen EBG played this same way too though, where a commander spends all their time working to control 100% of their third of EBG and almost never venturing out to make some play on the third of another server.

I disagree. It think on a certain level it is disingenuous to be a “true hardcore” WvW player and pretend that WvW is supposed to not have PvE elements. What this subset of player is looking for really seems to be some form of open world PvP, a stripped down and casual fights environment, which one could argue even then it has PvE.

Remember quaggan events and the lightning storms that would take out all your siege? Remember collecting pearls to give to the quaggans? I still have some of those! This is how WvW was played. It is like the old orbs. Those were some mechanic that you were forced to concern yourself with because it was part of the game. It could interrupt your attention from sieging someone’s keep or your awesome open field fight. I guess I’m not seeing how that is supposed to be different from, for example, the Oasis event which everyone seems to be saying is PvE.

Like I wrote, I think there’s a subset of players that are asking for a stripped down and casual fights environment, one that doesn’t have game aspects that can interrupt your fights. They are claiming to be “true WvW players”, but I think they’re really some open world PvP players because “true WvW” is about managing the activity that goes on across all four maps like an RTS, not “hey we’re having an open field fight over here.”

The shrines offer ridiculous buffs around keeps that discourage fighting.

At no time yet has my guild been discouraged to fight because of an opponent having a shrine buff. Did Major and Minor Ruins Bloodlust discourage fighting for you?

You have invisible zergs in sand storms.

My guild has yet to be wiped by an invisible zerg in the sand storm. Remember culling abuse? Good times.

You have walls shooting you and burning you.

TS conversation last night:
- “Where is this burning coming from?”
- “It is from the fire turrets on those pillars.”
- “They can’t be destroyed.”
- “Oh that’s annoying. At least they don’t hurt.”

Conclusion: Not as big an issue as it is being made out.

64-bit Client Beta FAQ

Ok, I tried to change the path of the game [not anymore in program files x86], and it didn’t fixed it..

The 64bit client still start with integrated video card, can’t do anything about it, the only thing i didn’t tried is to disable the integrated card once for all on bios, but i don’t want to do it, and i will not do it since it’s only a problem with this .exe..

It’s like the gw2 64.exe isn’t recognized as a proper game, when i select it in the nvidia panel, it doesn’t even show the icon or “guild wars 2”, it shows the path, i tried redownloading it, didn’t solved anything.. my 2 cents: the beta client isn’t recognized from some nvidia cards as a game.

That’s the only thing that makes sense so far.

Which Nvidia card do you have and driver version? A quick google search of Optimus not switching to the Nvidia GPU has some matches for other games too. It seems to be a driver issue. One guy reinstalled the OEM version of the driver that came with his laptop.

Optimus is a pita My husband had Optimus headaches when trying to run Solidworks on a Lenovo laptop.

My computer is an Alienware laptop, m17x r4, with nvidia gxt660m, and i’m using the latest nvidia drivers, 358.87 i tried the 64bit client with the previous drivers and then updated to these, so i tested both.. same problem.
Never heard of optimus tho, i have nvidia experience and nvidia control panel only on my laptop

Optimus is Nvidia’s GPU switching technology. It is built into the Nvidia driver.

I wish there was a high visibility setting for the in-game mouse.

There’s a small app called Yolo Mouse that players use to grant this wish. It overlays a large blue dot over your mouse cursor. A lot of GvG players use it because knowing the position of the cursor can make or break a match.

Center BL Event lags entire map

The times I’ve been on, there was hardly anyone doing the Oasis event and so I never noticed any lag. Tonight was the first time I’ve been in a zerg fight in Oasis. This was around maybe 9:30pm Pacific on TCBL. We all experienced a few brief moments of lag where skills were delaying.

We had a lot of fun.

My guildmates harass me into saying fire, air, and earth keep now. But it is still bay with lava for a moat and hills because there are dangerous cliffs. And garrison is always central.

Yea I purposely use old jargon because it helps those following me to understand.

I don’t think there is an easy way to present it than to just run it. It is tempting to get into more detail with regards to the jump pads and lava portals. I’m going to avoid that though.

So, basically, everyone avoids the new map then complains that everyone avoids the new map.

Not very convincing criticism…

Tonight was the first night I didn’t end up on EBG at the tail end of my rally!

We spent all night on TCBL. Had some great three-ways at TCBL garrison. It was a party. XD

This is an old bug. It isn’t just moving your mouse, there’s a click combination that “releases” the cursor outside of it’s fullscreen jail. Like right-clicking to move the camera and moving the cursor to the border at the same time. There’s some old posts on this forum about it. Nope, hasn’t been fixed. You may just have to learn what the click combo is and try to avoid it.

I play a lot these days in borderless window mode myself and learned over time not to move the mouse beyond the edge of the screen.

woow, guys what’s hard to understand in :
- launcher alone takes about 280-320mb of ram

So? It’s a 64 bit executable. There’s nothing really difficult to understand here. Go run Windows 3.1 for lower memory usage. I better stop before I get any more facetious here.

But I think Anet will do what they do and look at metrics.

I am guessing that 100% WvWers are a small subset of GW2 players.

The metrics are rigged because guilds cannot play 100% WvW and get their guild halls and hall upgrades. PvP guilds can’t either, by the way.

Even since launch, it’s been near impossible to get everything from WvW. You want ascended armor? Struggle to get it in WvW for months or farm PvE for a week. Want ascended trinkets and whatnot? Do guild missions or wait till you get laurels. Early in the game’s release, finishing dailies required you to leave WvW. Want to try a new build? Gotta go to PvE to get easy gold. Want to get some exclusive sigils and runes? PvE. Want some exclusive stats (eg: Sinister, Viper’s)? Go to PvE.

Never have you been able to solely WvW.

I still run with mostly exotics. I do guild missions and get laurels for ascended trinkets. I finally made an ascended hammer a few months ago. Only ever had four pieces of ascended armor from drops which finally I can change the stats on.

HoT is the most PvE I’ve played in a long time. I don’t want to get left so far behind everyone else again.

Devon Comments on WvW Reward Balance Issues

For those out there posting ideas for a better reward system and don’t read Reddit, here’s something Devon Carver mentioned on a thread in the GW2 Reddit a few hours ago;

“That is a large part of the issue. Essentially any change to WvW rewards has to be balanced against the idea that players, servers, etc. might collude with one another to just farm rewards. That said, there is one thing that is true of WvW, which is the actual rewards are higher than the perceived ones. Mostly because rewards come in a very small, but steady drip drip drip from kills, etc. That said, the mastery stuff is a different problem.”

Wait wait wait… but there is a very simple answer to this emboldened statement. It is called reward tracks.
