I’ll even build a quick website listing usernames and character names if I have too.
Nothing against the ToS for this forum in doing that.
Naming and shaming is against the forum policy certainly. I dunno if it’s against the wider terms and conditions though but you should be very careful about saying you’re going to name and shame.
I think the playerbase needs to take control instead of waiting for Anet to fix our kitten.
Name and shame every afk player you see on the forums for everyone to see until the source of the problem is fixed.
Force Anets hand by either manually removing peoples posts or just fix the kitten so they don’t need too.
These AFK players are destroying PvP.
I don’t condone naming and shaming on this forum as it is against the ToS.
Ok.. lets put this into another perspective so you can all understand how this really works.
Let’s just go with reporting some one.
Imagine the number of Spvp games in just one hour combining the NA&EU servers. Imagine in that hour the possible number of afk’ers, botters or what so ever makes players report it in that hour. In does 2 servers alone.
Now multiply this by 24 hours.
Now imagine this Arena net employee responding to every reports sent from gamers that thinks there doing a noble thing by reporting does troll’s. http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/6/67162/2641640-bird.pngGet the picture?
So? You wrongly seem to think I care about Anet’s workload or that I imagine myself doing something noble. Name and shame. Get it?
That’s your answer Chaba? Name & shame? Really? Go ahead.. Same wooden bird also presse’s ban button as well. Not just delete report from noble ppl who think will do anything about it.
What’s your solution? Do nothing like a good lamb? There’s no ban to be had. Everyone in the match sees who it is.
Naming and shaming is against the forum policy certainly. I dunno if it’s against the wider terms and conditions though but you should be very careful about saying you’re going to name and shame.
Who said anything about naming on this forum?
… if you are lucky enough to have me on your team and you tank your MMR, especially by going to enemy spawn and standing there the whole match.
How about when the people who are tanking their MMR is on the other team?
Also, they should really reset the MMR. At the moment, the MMR has been manipulated so much that it is worthless.
The report function works regardless of which team you are on.
Ok.. lets put this into another perspective so you can all understand how this really works.

Historically there is no indication that Arenanet has ever done anything whatsoever to punish afkers, other than dishonor.
There are players with hundreds of reports for afking and raging still on the loose, and some of them are extremely well known.
Yea, that’s fine. It’s a way to mark them. I also publicly name them so players know who they are getting the next time they queue.
Most WvW server communities run a website forum and community teamspeak server. Find yours as they usually have tips and builds or like Sarika says join a WvW guild and speak with them.

At this point, who cares?
1 – Your F2P model is horrible. You can’t allow Free/Base game players to be matched with Heart of Thorns players unless free/base get access to the elite specs because otherwise you make the game imbalanced and dumb as kitten. Yes i have HoT on my main acc and i still want free players to have hot skills because next time i get a free player in my team, i wont’be playing at a disadvantage.
Serious question. How was it in GW1 with the expansion classes? The reason I ask is because I didn’t play as much GW1 and never bought the expansions but my sister did and I remember that the accounts mixed.
I think it is some sort of bug because I don’t remember LOD culling the effect in a guild hall arena 15v15 GvG I participated in two nights ago. :/
Huh thx guys! But still such an important skill shouldn’t be disabled by LOD
QFT
Thanks for the reply. Honestly heard some crappy stuff about tier2 and now thinking of staying away from it for now. Been leaning to DB side as a growing server. That or trying to get into YB or JQ. But SBI feels dead in the times I’m around
All servers and tiers are going to have their strengths and flaws. Situations change relatively fast. Have you considered looking at streams?
It is being renamed Game Discussion > Alliances.

Gonna have to agree with OP
I’m from Piken and to be honest our PPT is rubbish but the enemy flat out refuses to fight us and when they do they wipe 9/10 times, i’m struggling to understand why they are so bad at this part of the game (not an insult, just an observation).
We don’t PPT much but we PPT enough to keep our place, but honestly EVERY server we fight can’t fight back or just runs, it’s not fun anymore, what happened to all these servers ?.
Your post reminded me so much of fighting a certain server. LOL. Yes, sad that this behavior is rewarded in PPT.
Fort Aspenwood is able to pull together 30-40 man zergs on EBG during that hour with someone who can consistently tag in EBG. We usually go up against a larger TC force that can split into two separate zergs and an SoS zerg later that grows in intensity due to their status as an OCX server.
TC can dominate during those hours so I’m unsure why you think they’d be a good fit unless you like to PvD.

how do you make the masses loyal enough to participate in wvw consistently?
You don’t. Where WvW lacks or loses player loyalty, it is a problem of boredom.
+1
Players want a new thing, not a repackaging of 2012 WvW. Fights are fun. Sieges are boring. That’s a big driver of guild transfers.
I’m not really interested is catering to “fight guilds”
They aren’t WvW guilds. They’ve co-opted WvW for a self invented game type because the game (foolishly) still hasn’t catered to large scale TDM, literally one of the easiest game types to track and code.
I’m interested in WvW actually awarding and incentivizing players to play like they’re trying to win WvW.
The game only ever did that at alunch, when pve server buffs were a thing.
A criminal lack of design attention or ability from the WvW team created what we have now. A WvW where people are more interesting in bashing each other in the face in the middle of a field than trying to take or defend objectives or utilize/defend siege.
Updates to the reward system were always aimed at the wrong targets. They were always aimed at rewarding people for taking objectives and killing each other, but the basic DNA of WvW is about neither one of those things. It is about owning objectives as a team
Until WvW hands out rewards strictly on the basis of how well the team as a whole is doing, its going to continue to be broken.
Its not the new maps. The new maps are actually fun. The problem is that people don’t want to play in them because they’re built for WvW siege play in stead of being built for random kitten roaming and quick flipping.
I’d be extremely happy to see all of the people that just want “big fights” to go to EOTM where the score doesn’t matter and there’s no meaningful objective. I’d be happy to see the stupidity of “server teams” killed in favor of randomly selected teams per season for every guild to ensure more stable and even populations.
WvW is a massive and highly objective based mode. Its reward system and the server transfer model does not reflect that, and it should. If it did, more people would actually go to WvW to play WvW.
Fix the personal rewards to match the team oriented gametype and wvw will start to fix itself.
Yea, I can’t help but notice that a lot of the “solutions” people are writing about here are from the perspective of vet players who are from the “devolved” WvW and trying to reinvent WvW in that image which would be a shame since that doesn’t necessarily appeal to a wide audience. We often forget that EOTM players used to be WvW players. At the same time it would be a disaster to try to have WvW as it was at launch since that style is relatively played out amongst the vets still playing. I am at a loss of ideas there.
The PvE server buffs are still there. The problem with them has always been that they are completely invisible and thus rendered meaningless. Most of WvW rewards are like this, where an individual’s contribution to the team’s performance is obscure and many times indirect. Bonus chests for winning a match is likewise as barely any casual player understands why they are receiving it.
My personal opinion is that reward tracks and a sort of bonus progression that are calculated/given out per tick similar to what happens at the end of an sPvP match, something along the lines of “top defender” “top repair” “top player kills”, may provide highly visible feedback to the individual player of their contribution to the team. It could go a long way towards incentivizing playing for the team (whether server, or alliance, etc.).
The “fix” for WvW is going to require all three components in tandem; any one component on its own will be wholly inadequate.
I agree.
What I’ve noticed simply is a cry for something, maps and such, that cater to what WvW has “devolved” into. The biggest thing they have to implement is a reason why to win a WvW match.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
I think it depends very much on how the scoring changes, the implementation of tournaments and the changes in the reward structures.
….
Right now there are no compelling reasons to fight for anything so most of WvW has devolved into players fighting arbitrarily.
Yes, basically. Like I wrote in OP, ask why WvW evolved the way it did. The answers reveal where the flaws are.
Takes 1 person to cripple the movement of an entire army now.
Not even. Takes a rogue NPC now.
Team Deathmatch Alliance when
Haha exactly!
We can all agree the best fights always happened in Fully upgraded Garrison with all 3 Servers colliding.
They also happen in a paper SMC. Auto-upgrades are terrible for SMC fights.
Before HoT, even hard-core GvG groups would go out of their way to defend a WP since it meant easier map traversal and a good fight most of the time.
Let’s not put on rose-tinted glasses in this thread. I’m not saying there haven’t been instances of what you describe, but there have also been instances of GvG groups “going out of their way” to siege troll their own waypoints.
In this thread I’m more interested in the idea that the base WvW mechanics are a game type that not many players are looking to play anymore. People can re-engineer a map or call for alliances all they want, it isn’t going to change the state of WvW much. An alliance of 300 fights players going to perform a long siege and run yaks? Yea… LOL.
You can no longer easily “pull” a zerg to your location. They know they’ll just easily flip it back later since you won’t be defending. They don’t need to come help defend because 2 people can handle the defense.
If you allow 2 players on their own to fully defend against a blob then it doesn’t encourage fights. It stops the blob vs blob from occurring because the defensive blob doesn’t need to attend.
Perfect! These are exactly the words I was struggling to compose when trying to explain in TS last night to my guild about how making defense easier has resulted in no one wanting to defend, how it has destroyed the ability to “PPT for fights”.
Reposting my comment from “that other forum” that essentially sums up what I think of the majority of the “constructive feedback” scattered across threads in this forum.
All those suggestions are not going to suddenly convert “fights guilds” into PPTers nor the casual PvXer into performing a long siege nor a roamer into a camp flipping yak skinner.
WvW went from a majority of players playing the siege warfare PPT game as intended to a majority of players casually looking for a large fight.
Ask yourself, why did WvW evolve that way?
1 – the GW2 combat system is fun
2 – there was never a real point to winning a WvW match. The Power of the Mists is a hidden and meaningless mechanic. Players barely understand what the bonus chests are from or even care about them.
3 – the base WvW mechanic is all played out
This is all well and good that you guys are putting the effort into commenting here.
IMHO it isn’t the map, but the mechanics of how WvW is played. It is still a siege-based PPT warfare system that’s been played out already over the past three years.
“All those suggestions are not going to suddenly convert “fights guilds” into PPTers nor the casual PvXer into performing a long siege nor a roamer into a camp flipping yak skinner."
Welcome back Adv to FA!
T2 has plenty of action without the stress and lots of whales to farm. If you are looking for a change for your guild through all these HoT changes, feel free to send me a private message.
“Once you go FA, you never go back.”
The biggest problem so far with a Sat reset as opposed to Fri reset is that my server has a lot of players who don’t play Sun nights (like OCX players too!). So we’ve gone from a solid two nights worth of score to a single night score accumulation in our matches, which negatively affects our Glicko rating.
As I mentioned above, DH would be my choice for t4 so you can loosen those panties there. T3 DB and t2 TC.
Are you one of those people who just like to join the most stacked server in a match? Fights are boring when you win them all the time because of superior numbers. I would never recommend that to players who are interested in improving their gameplay.
I agree with you, but to be fair being the most overall populated =/= outnumbering your enemies in the timezone you play. It’s the individual timezones that matter to #fites, not how your server stacks up in overall coverage/population imo.
Yea that’s fair, but OP hasn’t said which timezone so we all assume NA.
As I mentioned above, DH would be my choice for t4 so you can loosen those panties there. T3 DB and t2 TC.
Are you one of those people who just like to join the most stacked server in a match? Gross. Fights are boring when you win them all the time because of superior numbers. I would never recommend that to players who are interested in improving their gameplay and getting good fights.
Seriously, as WvW players, when are we going to start admitting to ourselves that we just want easy bags from running superior numbers and find no fun in challenges? Are you trying to sell T1 or help this guy with what he is looking for?
(edited by Chaba.5410)
I’ds ay TC in t2, DB in t3 and DH in t4
No that’s wrong because if players were really interested in “fixing” WvW then they wouldn’t stack on the winning server in a tier.
But this OP asked about Medium because that’s their budget range for transferring. Probably any of the Ranked 10-14 servers would work.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
@Chaba Sadly I haven’t seen that kind of tactics being used in ages, it was probably Season 2 since I last saw anybody trying anything different, than one big fight over a keep with players turtled with siege (even with similar numbers) or just blob vs gates.
Really? Sounds like a leadership/player choice problem then. Those are some things my guild has been doing when we felt it was needed; going back as far even as the no-white-swords “event”. We get players with mixed interests, abilities, and time commitments in my guild. It is easier to fit the role to a player rather than shoehorn someone into a role they can’t fulfill. Being adaptive also allows players to explore other classes and roles and not burn on out always being required to play their “main class”.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
Everything is PvE-locked, which is so ridiculous it’s not even worth discussing at this point.
Yes! It is just beating a dead horse at this point. I don’t worry too much about it anymore. It’s there. It will always be there. We will be at a disadvantage. We’ll just focus on other stuff that is more fun.
@Straegen
Depending on your WvW tier. I’d recommend watching for players that tag up as commanders…then perhaps asking them to join their guild.
I think you missed my point which is that WvW guilds are basically vanity tags. Prior to HoT, playing while rep’ping in WvW helped out a guild. Post HoT, why should a WvW player join a guild? Guilds in WvW are almost completely meaningless now.
I didn’t miss your point. I simply thought it was relatively meaningless because it described only one type of guild.
Most pugs should be encouraged join a guild, theorycraft, use proper builds and understand proper tactics.
It’s better than just follow a tag and join a blob that carries you or a k-train which you don’t need much coordination. It’s the best you can improve for large scale pvp, especially if you want to to improve as a player and be more reliable to whoever you run with.
Or you can be a pug who only drops supply and mashes one in confusion, with all the effects flying around. Or be one of those roamers, looking for scrubs to fight for their next ‘Nice’ video.
When terms like “proper” are used when talking about builds and tactics, what does that really mean? What if a proper build is run by the roaming ranger in your guild assigned to scout ahead and pick off other scouts and havoc, or a proper tactic is having a small havoc team that breaks off from your main group and is available to regroup for larger fights? A casual player following a tag will typically do next to none of those things. Often they’ll feel lost.
WvW is not always about a hammer train. There are many different types of guilds to fit playstyle with different defining charters or mission statements.
The most active wvw players I know are in guilds with 1-2 members or no guild at all. “WvW-guilds” usually have to stage raids to get their members on the map. According to my humble friendlist and huge blacklist those people mostly frolic through pve, often eb, occasionally spvp. That’s my experience of three years WvW on two servers in silver and gold. But I’m sure people will disagree and tell tales of servers where guilds are really running the show.
Coordination and communication is a thing done by individuals and groups across the map, unless we talk of two or more zergs coordinating or zerg-internal things. Sorry, guild-group-internal things. In fact most guilds remain very silent, possibly because they don’t want to attract pugs to mess up their furry-conventions. Sorry, scrims. Every party or squad can use TS or chat or smoke-signals I don’t know what guilds would have to do with that.
I don’t like the idea of alliances or mega-servers either, but identity in WvW is the people I meet and see and play with most of the time and very few of those are in “WvW-guilds”, sorry.
If you work well together, why not form a guild? Do your friends stick around to perform a long siege?
You think if I leave and join other guild, I will start to throw mats and gold on this endless dump again?
This post is addressed at the casual player who remains mostly guild-less or runs a small personal bank guild. Not sure how you interpreted it into a suggestion that you leave, especially when players can be members of up to five guilds.
Who said anything about development resources?
You did.
“So we can conclude from this that WvW is worth roughly 20% of API development, 35% of Revenant, is roughly equal to Ranger, about 25% of PvP and less than 10% of PvE.”
Yea bogus stats.
Are you saying my numbers are incorrect?
You can debate the validity of what conclusion is drawn, but a stat cannot be “bogus” if it is accurate.
The API dev is one single guy pretty much working on his own and thus able to hold a single conversation basically. The other parts of the game require multiple devs working on multiple parts.
How do you conclude that it makes perfect sense for one guy to respond more than many?
I’m saying your use of the numbers is bogus. You’re aggregating red posts per subforum without group distinction of how many posts per dev. Some of those “devs”, that’s their job to communicate on the forums. Some others can’t do their job properly without communicating on the forum. And others don’t need to post at all to do their job. I mean, you even say “bare [sic] in mind” that posts aren’t all from devs, BUT THEN YOU GO AND MAKE THE CONCLUSION ANYWAY.
Boy, Anet must surely be spending more development resources on customer service with all those posts in the Accounts forum. More devs should work on the API because that single guy must be making a killing in earnings.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
WvW is about team organization and cooperation. Whether players are grouped into servers or alliances, the game mode still requires “team organization and cooperation”. That is next to impossible to do when players are reluctant to join or form guilds that have dedicated WvW teams. I’m sure you have all now been on an “unorganized” PvE map and know what I’m talking about. Don’t like the rules of a particular guild? Start your own!
Alliances and mega-server are not going to really “save” WvW. WvW has been heading in a more casual direction for a long time and mega-server will only accelerate it to EOTM-like casual game play. The average size of a guild has been shrinking since launch. The days of many servers having that one huge anchor guild with dedicated WvW activity with “night crews” disappeared long before HoT. If that idea bothers you, get organized!
Yea bogus stats.
The API dev is one single guy pretty much working on his own and thus able to hold a single conversation basically. The other parts of the game require multiple devs working on multiple parts.
The only full server on both NA and EU is named Desolation. The irony.

I find it very strange that so many people claim alpine became “stagnant” due to being the same old map for 3 years, when an absolutely crushing majority of the players still choose EB over desert – the same EB we have had for 3 years.
That isn’t any stranger than people wanting back a map that was barely queued when compared to EB.
Typical old WvW night on Alpine:
- Oh green hasn’t been attacked. Let’s go there since EB is queued.
- Let’s flip this camp.
- Man, this is empty. Let’kitten this tower and see if anyone comes for some fights.
- Let’s grab all the camps then work on Bay.
- Oh look there’s a single defender. We’ve finally been scouted.
- Hey we got outer down. kitten , the scout threw a siege disabler on our rams.
- Oh hey look they brought their entire EB map queue to kick us out.
- Old borderlands were not that popular back then either and people still prefered EBG. On SFR you would always had a 30ppl queue for EBG while the home map had some people, but the other 2 maps where kind of deserted. Some exceptions were made when a new season would start or the reset night.
LOL yea funny how people forget. The new map though I’ll agree is less fun for certain reasons related to navigation, distances, and offense/defense balance.
Ferguson’s Crossing 567 767
Devona’s Rest 125 741
Eredon Terrace 63 862
What I am doing instead is a video about the best spots to attack each objective. More like a definitive guide for commanders on how to take a tower/keep and what they have to watch out for.
Cool. That’s kind of what I’m looking for. It has been next to impossible to force defenders to come out for fights by trebbing from range.
(Catalin, are you making videos for the keeps?)
