There are always plenty of fights in NA. OCX is very competitive with multiple OCX fights guilds. SEA has solid guilds. EU is in a good place but could use one more pugmander to help out the guild raids.

As its not possible to do all eficient with a blob.

The big gorilla in the room here. How many players in that blob are willing to take initiative to split off and do something on a different part of a map in support of their blob? Usually the answer is next to zero.

The problem I find in those situations is the very people that have the required skills/knowledge to do that effectively are the same core people making the blob work.

If they leave the blob, the blob drops in effectiveness at an alarming rate.

That’s what the guild is for. Not many guilds run satellite groups to play a map anymore since fights are more fun. But still that requires players stepping up to lead organizational structures and we know how punishing the HoT guild changes have been to smaller WvW guilds by locking previously unlocked buffs behind upgrades.

Yes. It is. The reason for a veteran commander tagging down is not necessarily the same as why no one new tags up. Many times the vet has already “been there done that.” Just going back pre-HoT, I’ve seen strong servers absolutely collapse in a match if their main veteran, celebrity commander decides to take a break. At worse is when I’ve seen players complain about WvW on certain servers because of a lack of tags, as if they are owed leadership. What will happen when all the leadership quits?

Funnily on my server a lot of “new commanders” are tagging up and it usually ends in a disaster. The vets are tagging down as well though – so somehow I think it’s partly the same reason no one tags up: Because fighting is no fun anymore. A new commander who burns a few times won’t tag up again. A vet commander who burned 1000 times more often “burns out” and won’t tag up anymore.
There are other reasons for people not tagging up though. On my last server we really didn’t need a tag – that was an exception though and it might have changed in the meantime.
Yes when all leadership quits, wvw will be dead – until something changes and fights are made fun again (I’m not talking about the new BL, btw).

ETA: I don’t lead because I hate TS and I’m not a “commander type” – wvw isn’t pve in which even the commander can afk most of the times. A good commander really does a lot -and it is frustrating to fight against bugs, OP mechanics and bigger blobs as smaller groups have been nerfed. I think that is the problem why wvw is so frustrating for a lot of people.

ETA²: Also of course the lack of skill of the pugs – when I started I ran into a very sweet commander who explained everything to us – but I admit that this is a lot of work and people come and go so the basics have to be repeated every day.

Remember when this forum had a lot of posts from people interested in learning how to pugmand and asking for tips? Heh.

I’m on a gold league server and two hours into reset we had no commander on EB and a queue of only 1. Practically unheard of.

The problem lies with NA that gamed the system on purpose for over 2 years to lock T1 in their own circlejerk, making it the mandatory place to go for something “working”, and breaking the rest of the MU.

Don’t complain about it and pretend it’s Anet’s fault, cause for once it’s totally NA players’s fault (Anet is responsible for a LOT of problems, not this particular one).

Same! And they’re currently stacking into the T1 servers to ensure that NA continues to be broken while believing that will solve all their problems. Look at the first post in this thread. That isn’t Anet clicking that ‘transfer server’ button for players. Anet should not have to explain anything.

On desert border, the home server has zero defense. There are no buffers.

Don’t you see? The new design gives an advantage to defenders. It is much more difficult to be the attacker (when defenders actually show up). The reward for capping a side keep is getting a waypoint. Defenders don’t need it because it is easier to hold off an attacking force. This is what players wanted: small number of defenders able to hold back ktrains.

As long servers have different populations…

  • the matchup is fairly equal but never changes, the opponents are exactly same for many months

This is not so much the result of servers within a tier having different populations, but servers in other tiers having too much of a different sized population. This doesn’t happen as much in EU as compared with NA where the population differences between tiers is much more pronounced. IMHO all servers within a tier should have roughly the same population size as servers in neighboring tiers. But with the way NA tends to stack into the winning server in a single tier instead of raising all boats, it just won’t happen in NA.

I don’t agree with that. T0 is easy to take because your siege eats through the walls/gate at a faster rate so you can withstand any counter-siege that is built much easier than if the keep is upgraded.

- If you are on your home bl and you own a side keep, the waypoint is always closed for you.

What does that have to do with anything? TC is more populous than either FA or SoS. The point of his post is that not many people on TC care for the new maps.

Hence, a 160 man queue.

If that is the point of his post, then he shouldn’t mislead readers by saying “reset night T2”. Be honest and say TC.

Players make pvp not the maps or even the game type. If you can fight another player that is pvp and its up to players on both side to keep it active not the game makers.

It’s both the players and the map. I spent a lot of time last night, too much time TBH, during my rally trying to encourage an opposing guild that had roughly equal numbers to us out into an open field fight by trying to lay siege to the air keep from a distance where they could not counter-siege and had to come out to fight us open field.

The new map took away the ability of an attacker to sit inside a tower and treb a nearby keep in order to encourage open field. But there are almost no spots where an attacker can force defenders into an open field fight. That was easier to do when you could treb from a tower on Alpine. When we found a spot, the defenders didn’t come out to fight us. Instead they found a spot to counter-siege again. That was their player choice yes, but the map design forces those kinds of choices because of the very small number of spots an attacker can open field siege from. And forget about trying to open field siege inner.

We left the map and returned when that same guild came to attack our garrison. Our player choice was to have the courtesy to give them a fight and not put siege down.

The whole rally turned into a boring long siege with an amount of siege resources spent that we’ll never see back in rewards for the time spent in WvW or actual capture of the keep. That’s boring. That’s why everyone is piling into EB to get fights. One of the guys in my guild actually complained about getting only two WvW ranks all night. He would have gotten more if we had real fights (or ktrained a bunch of camps).

Yes i am from TC… so what??
If you are to dumb to realize 160 on eb queue means we had 80 inside just like any of the other 2 servers on that map.. the BLs were empty for everyone..

Yes I do have a point. Your server is the only one in the tier with such a high EB queue. “Thank you” for coming off Full status early. Your post was not reflective of “T2” at all. I spent all of reset night in the BLs.

The problem is created by both Anet and players. Players who chose to hump siege all night on a BL despite having roughly even numbers or because they’re all queued for EB. The map for not having any good locations from which to siege where attackers can force defenders to come out for open field. Etc.

Also one of the blog posts mention guild anthems that play when you successfully complete guild missions. Yet those are nowhere now.

That’s a good point. We have only done the missions on the desert BL. We figure that it is easier to do there since people are avoiding that map.

You need a minimum of 3 members at each dolyak. They do not need to be attacked.

Last night we did the mission correctly but some people did not get credit so we ran it twice.

New bug found…

Attacked a few towers in the desert borderland last night. Walls were clickable & could be breached.

However, they don’t display a description on what type of wall that we’re attacking…it does display the health bar of the wall…so at least that helps for now.

Paper vs Reinforced.

This impacts scouting intel for home team, but I guess you can reference supply of tower to tell if the wall is probably reinforced.

Last night the walls at the SWT were rendering both paper and reinforced versions.

WvW has been a stale game mode for a lot of players for a long time prior to HoT but they continued playing because they had friends who were still playing. The effort that guilds and players used to put into it has been trending downward IMHO for awhile now.

Observations are made that the new BL is mostly empty while EBG has a queue or there’s a ktrain going on. But that’s how I remember it was with the Alpine map too during late nights after NA has mostly logged off for the past year or so. Small havoc guilds would try to ninja a tower or keep on an enemy bl and either you get run over by a responding EB blob or no one would show or 2-1 defenders would sit on siege. All the action would be in EBG.

So I’m wondering if there’s really some amount of a “been there done that” burn-out that occurred?

Also, who would have thought an MMORPG would have co-operative elements in its open world ? It’s almost like they want you to play with other people in their themepark MMO.

Since GW2 wasn’t like that before HOT (world bosses excepted) why are you here if you like 1990s group-or-die MMOs?

Nah. GW2 was totally like that before (from world bosses to Temple events) and one could see how the ideas for map-wide meta evolved over time. Remember the raid on Lion’s Arch that required map-wide coordination? Remember the changes to Tequatl (and how it was the WvW guilds with the coordinated organization who were first to crack Teq?) I actually like the way that system has developed because it reminds me quite a bit of the kind of organization that WvW requires.

None of that content gated character progression/leveling/playing the Story, it was NOT like HOT at all.

Pre-HOT group-or-die content was optional, none of it was needed except for the final Story instance, in HOT you can’t play the Story without requiring groups because everything is gated by Masteries you need groups to earn.

OPTIONAL group content is fine, gating core Story and other content by it is not when the base game didn’t do it.

HoT map meta events are optional too. As others have pointed out, there’s plenty that can be done solo. I solo’d the entire story in the first few days. I solo’d the Creeping Crevasse hero challenge on my level 80 Rev with only level 60 gear. My mastery level is only 23 so far. I still don’t have poison lore or pact auto-loot.

Right now, I am the sole farmer of Ley Line Sparks in our guild that i know of.
Need these so we can decrease the time-gate of getting Aetherium for the upgrades by upgrading Mining Speed.

You don’t really need to increase Mining Rate. If you haven’t noticed already, the time it takes to get the Ley Line Sparks and the Quartz Crystals for charging and making those Ley Line Tools is more than the time it takes for the Aetherium to be mined at the normal rate.

Mining Rate is definitely some sort of racket.

Yes, but then you need the Aetherium Capacity upgrade too, because most 2nd tier upgrades would require 5k Aetherium or more. >.<

Which do not require the double-whammy of Ley Line Sparks and Charged Quartz Crystals for making that pick. Your time is better spent getting and using Ley Line Sparks for the other upgrades.

It actually does, cause you also need to upgrade Mining Speed before you can expand Mining Capacity :p

Why is FA still full? This is a joke.

I’m not privy to the numbers, but I think it’s because we have/had the most streamers who directed people to come to our servers for WvW, even though they don’t play it. I thought the new formula only looked at the number of people going into WvW, but it doesn’t feel that way. Then again we have a sizable OCX so that might be part of the issue.

I think it has more to do with FA having a well spread population across multiple timezones rather than too strong in one timezone and too weak in another. The algorithm supposedly “smooths out artifacts” such as timezones. Clearly score-wise, being too strong in one timezone and too weak in another is better.

Also, who would have thought an MMORPG would have co-operative elements in its open world ? It’s almost like they want you to play with other people in their themepark MMO.

Since GW2 wasn’t like that before HOT (world bosses excepted) why are you here if you like 1990s group-or-die MMOs?

Nah. GW2 was totally like that before (from world bosses to Temple events) and one could see how the ideas for map-wide meta evolved over time. Remember the raid on Lion’s Arch that required map-wide coordination? Remember the changes to Tequatl (and how it was the WvW guilds with the coordinated organization who were first to crack Teq?) I actually like the way that system has developed because it reminds me quite a bit of the kind of organization that WvW requires.

Right now, I am the sole farmer of Ley Line Sparks in our guild that i know of.
Need these so we can decrease the time-gate of getting Aetherium for the upgrades by upgrading Mining Speed.

You don’t really need to increase Mining Rate. If you haven’t noticed already, the time it takes to get the Ley Line Sparks and the Quartz Crystals for charging and making those Ley Line Tools is more than the time it takes for the Aetherium to be mined at the normal rate.

Mining Rate is definitely some sort of racket.

Yes, but then you need the Aetherium Capacity upgrade too, because most 2nd tier upgrades would require 5k Aetherium or more. >.<

Which do not require the double-whammy of Ley Line Sparks and Charged Quartz Crystals for making that pick. Your time is better spent getting and using Ley Line Sparks for the other upgrades.

Players cannot spawn camp if there are multiple ways to leave the spawn area. This is how Alpine prevented and EBG prevents spawn camping.

Your original post never defined a spawn area. You made it sound like waypoints would just be out in the open close to the Oasis with the Oasis “as a buffer”. When waypoints are inside a tower or keep, enemies have to at least have gone through the effort of knocking down a wall in order to camp the waypoint, which can be recontested by hitting a gate (although now probably just hit a guard).

So not sure what kind of change you are really requesting here.

QoL: More Informative Capture Messages

Long-time WvW players adopted the simpler system of calling objects on the borderland maps by their coordinates, “northwest tower”, “south camp”, “east keep”, etc. as a means of providing clearer communication no matter which server’s borderland you were on.

In addition to allowing users to toggle capture announcements on and off, it would be nice to see some additional feedback provided. The messages currently require one to open up the map and scan all the objectives for the name or to look at one of the API sites or use an overlay to see which objective has a 4m RI timer on it so they’re not really providing any real meaningful improvement over the former system.

It would be nice if the notifications were clickable somehow that would open up the map location that was just taken, or if the notification pinged the map when the player opens it.
