As a scythe-wielding necromancer, the misalignment was the first thing I noticed. At first I was a little annoyed too, but I’ve really grown to like it – not just to deal with it, but actually like it.
As for the posts saying that the scythe skin is too plain – good! Not all of us want to be running around with giant weapons with intricate patterns, bits sticking out of it and silly glowing effects making it look ridiculous. If some people think that type of item looks cool and want to use them, fine – just don’t take away the plain stuff from those of us who want to look a bit more normal.
Simple BAN CHINA from the rest of the worlds Internet.
Most bots are actually prisoners in China forced by Guards to play games til they drop.
And then the money made from Goldselling goes to the Guards/Warden and up the chain. There was a news article a while back.
I wouldn’t say most, but that is a source. Don’t forget regular sweat shops all over Asia.
Dying weapons would be fine, but we don’t need special effects everywhere. I say keep patterns and effects tied to the actual item skins; and even then to a minimum.
A good question. I’ve seen another MMO take gold farming companies and bot developers to court and win, so I suppose a fine could be possible. The most I’ve seen is legally banning culprits from playing, interacting with or developing anything related to that game.
I think respawn mechanics should be looked at and something new added to them. Something to keep mobs from respawning so quick, but also motivate players to move across the map. And keep bots from farming the same patch of land.
If this could be implemented, things would be a lot better.
- Not having to wait forever for heart-related mobs to respawn.
- Being able to defeat that event boss or get that skill point without those enemies you killed at the entrance coming back for revenge.
- Packs of identical dodecatuplets aiming barrage at an empty spot. Seriously, just beat them to the spawn a couple of times and they almost break… imagine what a respawn algorithm could do!
In every episode where there is combat I make absolutely certain that Trahearne, the Hero of Orr, engages the enemy first single-handed, and dies while I stand off to one side giggling; then I go in single-handed and do the job.
I find that he does this anyway, regardless of whether I’m trying to kill the over-glorified broccoli man or not.
My main issue isn’t that he’s the hero and I’m not – I can accept that. The problem is that he’s such a boring character! He has the personality of a piece of broccoli. As the meager scholar he started off as, it was in character (even if he took it to a whole new level). But when he’s giving a rallying speech to an army, he still sounds like he’s half asleep and has concussion.
Well, we have the little banners on the character select screen to show which of the orders we’ve joined on at least one character – so why not make it an account-wide thing? Either account bound until equipped or letting any character who reaches a certain point in the story obtain the armour if you have the banner on the character select screen.
I guess the last thing I have to say is DO NOT BUY GOLD FROM GOLD-SELLERS!!!!
If there are no costumers there is no business!
Agreed, it all comes down to this at the end of the day. Having seen both content and the economy crumble on other MMOs, I just don’t want to see it happen again here.
We just have to hope that Anet take action on bot reports and that their detection software and perhaps even legal cases (if they decide to take that route) are enough to keep them one step ahead.
Do you think these legitimate players are selling at a level equal to the bots(not that i condone selling lots of things, just botting.) if so then my solution is rubbish. If not than why not set a cap that a legitimate player cannot reach, but a bot can?
The thing about bots isn’t about how many items or how much money goes through a single bot – but what they’re capable of as a collective. I would say that a moderately wealthy player playing the trading post, buying and selling on for a profit, could easily go through more items than a single bot – as could a player who wanted to do a large crafting stint.
Personally, I don’t think that your solution is ideal – but I wouldn’t call it rubbish. It would have some effect, even if there were side effects; and it also shows that you’re trying to find a solution. However, I have played another game which sadly did take this approach… it lead to player being unable to get the basic supplies they needed for their crafting skills; while bots still ran rampant (half of some servers populations weren’t human =/).
How would I treat it? I wouldn’t be able to, I’m not an experienced game dev or programmer.
Just because I’m not the “how guy”, it doesn’t mean that I can’t say an idea isn’t the best course of action. While I can’t program a fancy system to shut down every bot and figure out who’s a player and who’s a gold farmer – I have played other games with the same problem and have seen how badly some approaches can affect it.
I say let the people behind the scenes work out their strategy and do their thing, as opposed to losing the ability to interact with other players and have restrictions on all of our actions. I’ve seen MMOs with once-vibrant communities pretty much turned into single player games where players have to jump through hoops to prove that they’re humans, then find that content is hurt because bots were using it.
I don’t claim to have all the answers, nor do I have a magical solution – but I do have a warning. When bots are concerned, treating the symptoms never ends well – since at the end of the day, the symptom is that the bots are playing the game and using the same content that we do.
While I love to be able to customise my characters’ appearences to the very last detail, why on earth do you need them so… exposed?
Is what I was going to say until I read:
At least you don’t have yellow under garmants.
Please let us dye them. I hate seeing the yellow ones when I’m transmuting my armour.
Trading isn’t in the game so that trades are forces through the trading post – making it anonymous and forcing a tax to help stop inflation. We can still mail items to friends, so it’s not like we can’t be helpful or give gifts.
While I miss being able to trade normally, the current system is best in the long term. I’ve seen games destroyed by inflation, I don’t want to see it happen here too.
Bots need to be stopped behind the scenes, not by limiting everyone. I don’t play the markets or go through large quantities of items on a daily basis – but some legitimate players do and shouldn’t have to be penalised.
I’m all for cosmetically equipping different armour types, other MMOs have handled it really well.
As for telling classes apart, they have their emblems.
Please no. I’ve seen enough of “treating the symptoms and not the disease” when it comes to bots. Some bots can solve captcha, while some genuine players can’t. Gold farmers and bot users could also just type it in manually when it’s needed. Lastly, why should genuine players have to go through this just for a very minimal protection against the bot problem?
The things that catch the bots are behind the scenes, visible things are just for show and usually a hindrance.
We had this for our helms and capes in Guild Wars, so I really don’t see why we can’t have it for town clothes in Guild Wars 2.
Still, a little more choice in town clothes would be nice too (and not just silly outfits in the gem store – regular clothes are needed badly)!
Well, I can see something like this fitting in quite nicely when Cantha opens its doors. The Eastern feel of the continent would fit the martial artist and inner peace ideals of a monk, instead of the healer and occasionally holy damage roles that Tyria would scream out to many Guild Wars players. Then again, even the name “monk” would suggest this – so maybe another name (but please nothing uninspired like “martial artist”) would address the stigma attached to monks.
If it’s done properly, I think the profession would have a lot of potential. Plus there’s clearly demand for it, if the number of similar threads are anything to go by.
Just a little addition – perhaps an option of a main-hand dagger and bare-handed weapons? Obviously there would still need to be an item equipped for bare hands though, otherwise that’s a lot less gear to get.
Our illusions can wield them, so surely the person who created the illusion should be capable of this. Just as one-handed swords do, I think that a main-hand pistol would fit the ‘duelist’ feel that mesmers have to them… when they’re not firing purple everywhere from a sword larger than themselves.
This would be a really nice feature, perhaps even offering changes to eyes, markings and sylvari glows. I’m not saying race or gender changes though, that’s beyond just tinkering with your look.
1. You should be careful when making big purchases, but we all make mistakes. A refund would be nice.
2. As Tommy said, we already have this one.
3. Yes. Please, for the love of quaggans, this needs to happen. The original Guild Wars had this feature and it would be lovely if a weapon and armour set could still match after dying the armour.
4. An interesting concept, but I’d have to say no. The last thing that any game needs are players with maxed level, top gear characters, but with absolutely no idea how to play them. In one MMO I played, raiding groups were rife with supposedly “elite” tanks/healers/supports who earned their status as a simple dps class and weren’t actually capable of performing other roles. I know that these roles don’t exist here, but I can see people using a warrior to level say, a mesmer, and have a level 80 which they barely understand.
5,000 kills with some of these is a bit excessive, maybe even inane, but that’s not really a problem. There are some achievements that aren’t meant to be grinded away, just kept as a running total or passive long-term goal. As a fellow completionist, seeing that progess bar so low makes a part of me a little bit sad… but that doesn’t mean that it should be nerfed down or even actively grinded in the first place!
If there were any rewards for these achievements, it would be different – but completing them gives you no advantage, no title, no status, no cosmetics – nothing. That’s not to say that it’s not important, but there’s really no need to conciously try and complete the achievement.
With good kiting, evading and speed boosting skills/traits; it’s quite easy to leave enemies in your dust. While it can be annoying in places such as Orr, it isn’t too bad and makes people play the game as intended. As for kiting while actually fighting the enemy, it doesn’t make much of a difference – it’s possible to fight some (not all) champion mobs without getting hit.
Now, those annoying mobs that spam long duration cripples and chills… they’re a totally different matter and should be dealt with.
That money is removed from the game to help combat inflation, which can be a serious problem if it gets out of control. Saying that, my main problem with a coin-based prize is that it’s boring! I’ve seen other MMOs sucessfully have lotteries with mostly fun items (such as tonics, cosmetics, etc).
But hey, that’s just my opinion. I’ve seen many popular player-hosted lotteries on MMOs, so adding security to the concept by making it official wouldn’t be a bad thing.
I suppose this would be one of many things that I wouldn’t mind being implemented, as long as it were optional. While some people would find it interesting and would like to see a breakdown of what lead to their death, others would get tired of it quite quickly and just want to get back into the action in PvP and WvW.
Sadly, game devs never seem to like the idea of adding togglable features.
It’s kind of sad that this is even a problem; but if this is actually happening, a block feature would be helpful.
I’d love to have more options for stat combinations. Power/vit/prec would be a great one for my ele. Actually, I just can’t seem to find anything with both prec and vit on the same gear.
I think the Auora, Nightmare and Svanir light sets have + precision and vitality; but sadly have + healing power as the main stat. This is the main issue that I have with the sets – you’ll end up with something that you don’t particularly want.
I think ANet is a little concerned that certain combinations like Power/Precision/Vitality might become too popular.
They want you to mix and match gear-sets, to crunch numbers, test stuff and then conclude your optimal results.
That said, I’m not opposed to the idea. I’m also agree that Magic Find could be found on other gear as well.
I wholeheartedly agree that some combinations will become too popular, such as the glass cannon + power, precison and critical damage/condition damage that we already have multiple examples of. Even so, if some combinations would be used much more often than the others; why give us the strange ones instead?
As for mixing and matching, my point in my reply to Navzar creeps back: leftover points in stats that you don’t particularly want – while other playstyles don’t have to suffer from this.
Sorry if I seemed a bit critical in that response, but I find typing out these things helps me to see any improvements or glaring mistakes in my suggestions. I appreciate you not being opposed to the idea and the issue/work around that you raised there.
I rarely swap to my staff on my mesmer, since I love dual swords so much – partly for the aesthetics and partly for the insane damage potential.
I really hate saying things like this to people, but you really do need to learn to play the mesmer a bit better if you think their melee damage is low. As others have said: the mitigation/avoidance with swords is increadible too; but that’s not the point.
- Illusionary Leap allows the mesmer to get into close range quickly, increasing dps somewhat over the course of the fight by reducing the time. Combine this with the cripple and then the immobilize from Swap – you’ve just closed the distance, kept the opponent from moving and gained a valuable illusion.
- Blurred Frenzy grants you distortion, but also has the frontal AoE from it is very high damage compared to a lot of professions’ skills. Please don’t underestimate this.
- The Mind Slash/Gash/Stab is also respectable dps and debuffing. Not the best, but still strong.
- Illusionary Riposte and Phantasmal Swordsman both summon illusions. That’s three illusions just from your weapon skills. If you can use your F skills and utilities, Mind Wrack and Cry of Frustration can deal devastating damage while you’re still slashing away with your sword.
A melee mesmer is strong, if used properly. If you want to hack and slash away with no additional class mechanics or synergy between weapon and utility skills – play an all-signet warrior and ignore the adrenaline bar. My mesmer can take out a regular enemy in a matter of seconds by stepping in, shattering clones and using Blurred Frenzy in quick sucession; while veterans might need another round of illusions from my utilities.
I’d say that melee mesmers don’t need any adjustments to them; but Blurred Frenzy says that it has eight seperate hits, but only actually hits four times and for some reason has five slashed in the animation. If mesmers could just count properly, meleeing would be perfectly fine.
Personally, I think + magic find on gear was a mistake to begin with, but since it’s here – it might as well be worked in. As for the specific comments on that particular stat, is pure offense the only way to contribute? Surely offering it with + healing power would offer a more visible contribution than pure defence – but would vitality or toughness even be that bad when paired with it? Surely not taking up everyone’s AoE heals or dying all the time would be beneficial to the team, along with taking a few hits for other and general support skills.
Aside from that specific example, there’s still the many other missing combinations.
How can anyone possibly say no to this?
I guess this makes sence. It’s just if people decide to trade through the mail, scammers can easily scam. I haven’t actually seen or heard of it actually happen but I bet it has done.
During the beta and first few days of release, a lot of people were worried about this. Fortunately, it seems to be quite rare. It would be nice to avoid, but I’d rather not see hyper-inflation kick in too soon. Each to their own, I guess.
This is something a lot of people want – and I’m no exception.
I’ve always found that the best way to teach is through example – how better to prepare a friend or guild member for a combat situation than to challenge them? Plus there’s the obvious benefits of friendly sparring matches and actually challenging someone to a duel.
My only concern would be where it’s allowed. Personally, I wouldn’t want it to only be in the Mists (using our actual gear and traits if prefered, instead of just PvP set ups). Also, I’ve played some MMOs where busy areas take several minutes to load because there are five duels going on right next to the portal/waypoint. It’d be nice if they were slightly restricted so this scenario doesn’t become an issue.
As a raider in other MMOs (not WoW), I’m glad that raiding doesn’t exist in Guild Wars 2.
Anet wanted to do something different – we have dungeons. I’m sure that in the future we’ll have even more of them, tougher ones at that. Plus we hopefully won’t get into that horrible situation where you can only do end game content if you’re in one of the best guilds on the server and already have the best gear which only drops from the end of said content – basically barring newer or casual players who have only just reached that point.
As for having nothing to do: there are eight professions to play as, world completion, PvP and WvW – there’s plenty to do if you look for it.
This would be really helpful to be honest. Not much more to say about it, support.
As for trading, I think it’s been replaced by mail and the trading post so that friends can still give items; but business has to go through the trading post and be taxed. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s the only reason I can think of.
Guild banks only give you 50 slots and I already have 2 small guilds I run and those slots are full and I try not to use them except for food to share with guildies. =(
Guild stashes have 50 slots, you can get a lot more with a heavily invested guild vault – but that’s not the point!
As a fellow hoarder, I would gladly welcome and increase to the maximum bank slots. Sure there’d be a little more pressure on the servers, but since people do this with guild stashes anyway – it’s essentially more money for Anet from those of us who are willing to pay.
Having browsed through most, if not all, of the end game equipment while trying to find my ideal gear for each of my characters; I’ve become quite disheartened from aiming towards exotic gear on many of them because of a lack of some pretty useful stat combinations on items.
Would it be so bad if we had a bit more choice in our gear? We have multiple dungeon sets with the exact same stats (I’m aware there are aesthetic differences, but that’s what transmutation stones are for), while some combinations simply don’t exist. For example, there are plenty of + power, precision and condition damage; yet no + vitality, toughness and healing power – if we can spec for all out damage, why can’t we do so for survivability? Why does + magic find only appear in offensive gear?
I know asking for every combination would be a bit silly; and asking for the choice of which of the three stats had the higher value would be borderline insane – but surely a few more ‘common sense’ options would be possible? It’s not like a new dungeon needs to be created to facilitate the sets with these stats – just add a few more crafting recipes and pin gear on to existing merchants.
Or perhaps, fruit for thought, a system where upon buying armour from a dungeon/karma merchant, a window pops up asking you to choose which three stats you want on it. Probably more appropriate for a rework with a new expansion than a small update, but I thought I’d put it out there anyways.
I apologise if a similar thread has been made, or perhaps hundreds of them, but I’ve had issues being able to post up until now and a lot of threads have been created since I wanted to suggest this… far too many for me to read without my brain melting.
Any questions, comments or constructive feedback are welcome.
Thanks for reading.
