WvW and PvP Ascended Armor Upgrades

in WvW

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

I’m glad to hear this, as a PvEer who can’t stand the raiding community. Will the time investment between PvP and WvW armour be looked at though? You can lose miserably in PvP and get a set pretty easily, while WvW will take an insane amount of time.

Hey ho, I’d still rather play PvP (which I despise) to get legendary armour than put up with raiders in this game. It’d be nice if WvW, which I actually enjoy, was anywhere near as viable an option as PvP is likely to be.

Feedback: Improvements to the Gem Store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

It’s an improvement, but the front page doesn’t need to showcase so few items in such a big block – more overall visibility of stock would be wonderful. Other than that, the UI is a lot cleaner now.

As for the sales side, please could we see lower prices on consumables/boosters and the removal of the artificial scarcity? Sales on the prior must be abysmal and a lot of people can’t buy the “limited new seven day only shiny sale” when it runs as far away from payday as possible. I don’t care what marketing says, it’s a bad idea to stop customers buying your product.

Confirmed a few months after episode 6, which is the end of this month, so the timing’s about right. Anet’s said no new professions and a new set of elite specialisations each time, so those are pretty much set in stone.

As for where it is, quite a few of us have a pretty good idea where it’s going.

Additions to Material Storage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chameleon Dude.1564

Amazing list and a lot of work, I’m ecstatic. Had a quick look while on holiday and find the QoL update of the year!

As for feedback:

  • Lumber cores need to make the list, they’re a base ingredient you get from gathering, not bought, etc.
  • Luck. Since we can promote it through crafting, it needs to be in there. It’s a waste of space until processed and a pain to deal with.
  • Items purchased with spirit shards can go, they’re purchased when needed. Anyone hoarding those is literally making problems for themselves. Dowels and patches too, but to a lesser extent (or you could just remove patches from the game all together…)
  • Baubles and bauble bubbles aren’t materials, so I’m fine with them not making the cut – they belong in the wallet since they’re a currency. If baubles can’t go there for technical reasons, bauble bubbles still can as they’re not used in SAB itself, just at Moto’s vendor tabs.
  • Boosters, tonics, BLC stuff, etc aren’t materials either – so they don’t belong in the material storage. These things needs to be added to a new UI panel, in the hero panel or something. As they are, they just sit in most players’ banks or are used quickly just to save space. The hero panel’s tabs can easily be condensed to make room if need be.
  • Remove piles of silky sand from the game. Adjust drop rates of items dropped from sand accordingly and change the recipe for the focus. It’s a waste of space scattered around characters.
  • Keyring, gemstore scroll book and LWS3 portal scroll book. While not part of the material storage, keys act as currencies and the scrolls are supposed to be convenience items! Obviously this should be another project, not thrown on to your workload now.
  • Slightly off topic, but the material storage needs a tidy up. LWS3 map currencies either need their own tab or to be made currencies which can be traded in for unbound magic at vendors. Other items are also in categories which do not match their actual rarity.

And I think that’s all, good work!

Let’s see:

  • Awful spiky designs
  • Only for raiders
  • No new sets in the future (Reddit AMA)

Yep, no legendary armour for me then. My timetable doesn’t allow for raiding and I really don’t care for the looks of these anyway. I’d happily take up high end fractals or WvW again if they could earn a set, but not raids, sorry. Looks like I don’t deserve the QoL stat/rune swapping that raiders get, thanks Anet!

Guilds with friends, social guilds, large guild for guild missions, WvW guild, raiding guilds, personal bank guilds and I guess, for the rich, guilds for pet project guild halls. Plenty of reason to have more than five guilds in total.

Wooden Potatoes Grande Review

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chameleon Dude.1564

These should be interesting to think about when they’re all out. I like WP’s videos because I agree with some of his opinions, but greatly disagree with others – it’s often food for thought and nice to see the opposing view presented in a good manner. So far, aside from mention of raids, I’m agreeing with a lot of what’s been said so far. Although, that last link made me quite hungry.

The biggest problems I have with Wooden Potatoes are that, first, while he is very knowledgeable about the game, he does let ArenaNet influence his opinion more than he should (being straight up told on twitter that he should focus on the last raid when it dropped even though he had not originally planned to do so, for instance)

While I disagree with a fair chunk of his personal opinions, I don’t think this is true at all. In this particular case, he was guided to look at the raid wing because the lore was literally designed for him – they outright said it on a dev stream. I know that if I made something with one person in particular in mind, I’d want that person to see it. Likewise, if something had been made for me, I’d be glad when directed to it.

Gem Store Item Limit

It’d be nice to see these things sorted out. Yes, some people fall for them, but how is “Limited time sale, 2 days only, nowhere near pay day and so brief that you’ll probably even miss that this item’s on sale!” nonsense supposed to help with selling the item? The same with making something unavailable for months at a time, I’ll simply give up on it and get an alternative that’s likely not from the gem store.

Please Fix Guild Missions!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

I want in on this.

I just love having to have three players present for each dolyak escort or sentry capture. This can often make the hard versions of the missions impossible for my guild, unless no enemies decide to interfere and the map is exactly how we’d want it. Most of us don’t even like WvW, but as a small guild we really are forced out of a lot of mission types. It’s alright saying that you can tag along with another guild or all five bounties will be waiting at the first waypoint you visit with a zerg ready and waiting to aid you… but it just doesn’t happen in reality.

If one player can earn 50,000 WvW xp in that timer… let them have their reward! And probably investigate their account for suspicious activity.

How would you redesign the BL Chest?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

They need to have an actual value. Not just the lucky big wins, but being worth the gems (in terms of both gold and real money values) they cost. Drop the price, improve the average rewards, remove trash rewards, make them even cheaper in bulk, some form of guaranteed reward of worth… there’s plenty of ways.

However, even if Anet did all of those things, I probably wouldn’t be a buyer. I do not like to gamble. I do not want to gamble at all. So by hiding exclusive, non-tradeable items inside of these chests, they’re just annoying me. As someone who’s put decent chunk of money into gems, sometimes even to convert to gold and buy other black lion weapons, it’s just losing them a sale. I’m not saying that my money is the deciding factor for success, but it seems like a pretty strange business strategy to not let a customer buy something they want for the usual price.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chameleon Dude.1564

They spawn quite regularly, to be fair. Yes, luck can be a kitten; but I see whirlpools maybe every other run.

Even so, this isn’t the RNG at Tequatl that needs to be addressed. If you know what you’re looking for, it really shouldn’t take more than five attempts to get hit by a whirlpool. However, Tequatl has exclusive, account-bound, insanely low RNG skins. By time you’ve had one of those drop, you’ll be fed up of whirlpools, just from the odd ones that catch you off guard when you happen to be standing on them.

I don’t see how you’ve even come to this conclusion to be honest, the things you’ve listed are just as likely to lead to Gwen-chans being the next playable race.

Guild Missions... slowly become boring

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

Having always preferred playing with a small guild, with several members not having 100% map completion, I’ve never liked guild missions. Yes, I’ve done them with a large guild and had 100 players roflstomp them for easy weekly loot… but that wasn’t fun for me.

Seeing that the PvE missions just weren’t suited to my guild of friends, I opted for the WvW missions to see how they were. I was sorely disappointed. If it’s not capturing a supply camp, having one person complete Obsidian Sanctum or waiting potentially hours for the (now disabled) Oasis event… they just weren’t doable with small numbers either. I’m not expecting any love for small guilds any time soon though.

Yes, shiny new legendaries are amazing and are something that I’d personally go for… but they’re not a top priority. Right now, unless you raid or are in love with PvP, there’s really not much to do – any help towards developing new content is definitely what this game needs.

It must’ve been a tough call, but I’m glad it’s been made.

Not so secret jp launch pads

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chameleon Dude.1564

For me, they’ve always seemed to work “normally” with swiftness or a speed increasing trait/signet. Without a speed boost, I’ve always fallen short with these pads. It’s just another piece of wonky designing that makes me hate that puzzle. The difficulty of the puzzle itself is low; but failing it is very punishing, the mechanics don’t always work and the mobs are just plain annoying.

I digress. Try it on another character with another type of speed boost, see what happens.

If that happens, get to ground level and find an extra event. Anything. Kick and scream in the map chat until people come to help with it. So many people seem to give up when the meta’s not quite done, but the bosses are dead – it’s worrying.

I’d fix the jump pads so that speed boosts (signets, traits, swiftness) don’t affect the launch height, so you don’t need to change your build (or sometimes character) to complete the puzzle. I’d also remove some of the aetherblade spawns. Being stunned mid-jump by an enemy I can’t kill because of it going anti-exploit, but still attacking me, is an annoyance. Maybe also being revived at the start of the puzzle if you die, not having to waypoint and run through those ettins – just a small time saver.

Yes, I’ve completed it… several times thanks to precursor collections coming out; but it’s an unfair puzzle. Yes, there’s some actual difficulty there, but most of it is just being unfair and overly punishing.

PSA: Silver Fed Salvage-o-matic is back!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

Gem store items were never meant to be cost effective. If you bought a copper fed salvage kit to save money, you’re probably doing it wrong. That one saves space and the trouble of having to buy more kits as they run out quickly with 25. A few others may buy it because of the silly things it says.

But… it is cost effective. The copper-fed’s cheaper per use and plenty of us have salvaged enough that we’ve got our initial investment back. As others have said, using a mystic salvage kit costs 1/6th of what a silver-fed costs per salvage (assuming the player is earning more mystic forge stones than they’re using, which is true for any player without a severe gambling problem) – it’s horrible value, on top of not saving that much space due to mystic salvage kits being a 250 stack. The silly lines are a nice bonus though.
