Largos, Kodan, Centaur – you know, things that really can’t work as races and we wouldn’t want to see thousands of for lore reasons. Maybe tie Largos tonic to PvP tournaments or something. No idea.
Just vendor them. Quick and easy.
Not paying stones for transmutations.
Changing stats just like legendary weapons do.
Those are the only ones that make sense, but I’d rather we got legendary armour (ascended armour + a few minor things to make) and these bonuses only affected legendaries. As for buffing exotics, I don’t see a point in doing so.
But I love hearing a friend of mine rage about it. =/
None are needed, the game works fine without them.
"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

Love the longbow; the traps aren’t for me, but I think they’re a great addition to the guardian’s skill set (because kitten nal is filtered XD) – however, the name really is so bad that it could put me off this specialisation entirely. Dozens of better names have been suggested.
I know we have the theory about Braham and the post about witch hunters; but one is speculation at best (and even if it were true, Braham could just as easily call himself a dragonhunter in game, wouldn’t have to affect us), while the other was over thinking things and made us sound more like White Mantle fanatics than guardians.
All in all, the name sounds stupid. Renaming it, and maybe the elite skill, would be all that’s needed. We’re not asking anyone to redesign the specialisation from scratch.

Everything’s already been said, so I’ll just add my name to the count: the logic and reasoning behind it is respectable; but it doesn’t change the fact that the end result sounds stupid and really doesn’t fit the guardian at all in the majority’s eyes. Even to the point where it sounds silly.
What I’d give to be able to hide story stuff, holiday events and PvP tournament information from the top right corner. Oh, and achievements too. I know that by completing my dailies and having nothing in my watch list, it goes away… but keeping all the achievements I’m working on in one panel is handy – I just don’t need it to be outside of the achievements tab.
Less choice is good though. Don’t ask me how, I don’t work at Anet. But it is!
Some of us don’t want stupid, glowing weapons. Thanks.
Still, on a constructive note, I don’t see why Anet can’t add effect slots to weapons. Items like the poly-luminescent jewels could go into these (as opposed to being a gem, so they can be used on ascended and don’t take up stats), along with legendary effects (seperate skill effects and footfall into two different upgrade component things) and any other weapons that might have them. This way, all legendaries could have their maximum over-glow options, but the owner could add/remove these effects as per their taste.
On a plus side to Anet – the upgrade extractor would finally have a use. Oh, and naturally, these upgrade components would be account bound.
I still don’t understand this crafting hate I keep seeing: it’s much more interactive than chest farming or champ training, etc.
Dungeons have unique skins as it is.
For me to play them regularly or with randoms, they’d need to:
- Make the dungeon community less toxic, somehow
- Reduce the grind (counter-productive to prolonged play)
- Fix bugs (good luck with that)
- Remove the need for cheese builds and stacking
- Make them feel rewarding compared to other content (a major issue with a lot of things)
Even then, I don’t always want to run a 5 man group.
As you’ve said, they will build upon the specialisations as time goes on. To start with, though, we’ll have just the one per class. And what do you mean “besides” all of that list? A class is basically a combination of weapons, skills and traits anyway – adding more is about all they can add!
Male customisation options look like complete kitten, in my opinion. Without trying to make my characters look ridiculous, I can make maybe two human males before they all start to look the same. Besides, with so many alts, some of them have to be female.
So, my human necromancer will go down to having 0 useful elite skills? I hope not.
I like the concept of tomes, not that I’d use them myself, but those skills do just seem to be better. If the heal was half decent (and scaled decently with healing power, so zerkers couldn’t abuse it), Signet of Courage would find its way onto my tank/support guardian’s skill bar – and I hate signets! XD
As someone who’s been watching and waiting for this, I was overjoyed when I saw that our bow-wielding guardian specialisation had a post up… then I read it and got some very mixed feelings. I’ll keep it brief:
Pros
- A ranged weapon, an actual ranged weapon!
- I’m a fan of the skill bar on said ranged weapon.
Mixed
- Virtues. We keep the passives, that’s cool. The shield of courage sounds amazing, but the spear of justice seems a bit weird and wings of resolve… eh.
Cons
- The name. Dragonhunter is just bad. This alone might actually put me off of something I’ve waited so long for. Sentinel would’ve been more suitable, even with the traps.
- Speaking of which – the traps. Fortunately I can still use and trait for my shouts, but we already have symbols and traps just feel like a lazy ranger reskin.
Overall, I can accept the traps, they’re just not my playstyle and probably won’t be equipped. However, the name, Dragonhunter, needs to be scrapped. I do not want my character to be stuck with that awful name. The bow and a lot slight (and sadly I’m 99.99999% sure accidental) references to Slayers Try are really, really nice. But my Guardian is not a Dragonhunter, kitten it.
It’s a shame I found negatives in my favourite class’ specialisation, seeing how awesome the Chronomancer was.
This was a pretty good read, and while I agree strongly with some points, I disagree with others. For example: I like regular content, I’ll agree that would be nice. However, when that content could be the infamous “fix signs for two weeks, while crowd-control spamming enemies spawn in starter zones” – I’ll pass on it. The Living Story Season 1 updates were plentiful, but were temporary and often poorly done – mechanics-wise and plot-wise. While Season 2 is much further spread apart, and still has its flaws, it’s definitely an improvement in my eyes.
Now, for the non-living world updates: I’m in almost complete agreement. Feature packs have nearly killed the game for me, mostly because they did so for my friends. I won’t go into specific details, since those have all been covered.
For me, personally, I’d like to see the Living Story cover side-plots, uncovering the rest of Tyria. One team could work on this, providing small, frequent, permanent updates to the game. Not giant zerging loot fests, not a new map every fortnight, but also not just fixing signs, etc. Expansions could cover things like Cantha, Elona, going underground with the dwarves, etc. I find it hard to believe that in a living world, the entire population are only going in one direction at any one time – giving us a few different stories overlapping would be lovely.
On a finishing note: any update based on metrics, making the game simpler, or just tinkering with core mechanics in general needs to be thought about properly. These types of updates have had significant negative impacts on the game and felt incredibly poorly done. Completely broken personal story? Go to a zone twice your level for a trait? Stuff like that should not be happening.
Race, themes, even build differences (if I’m going to have to buy multiple sets of armour, why have them taking up bag space) – there’s plenty of reasons. Hell, even roleplay could work.
We don’t want another New Player Experience update. As others have said, everything can be located and completed without the use for a guide.
Because if they were sold in the gem store, what would Faren wear? He’d be going commando…

Several of my builds have lost their healing power or toughness from traits, and a celestial build has lost its extra damage stats from traits, so a respec option would be very much appreciated. Taking chosen stats away from traits and slapping a round + everything onto base stats really messes with a lot of builds that weren’t just one stat combo.
Then again, I doubt anything will be done. Afterall, the trait changes punish those of us who used more mix and match style builds anyway.
The Caithe x Faolain story made me wonder what brain damage Caithe had to be interested in a psychopath like Faolain, or be blind to just how bad she was. It actively detracted from the situation for me.
Marjory x Kasmeer are like the majority of videogame/TV/movie relationships for me. Just kinda there as a thing.
Besides, we all know its really about Braham and Rox.
A once normal enough love being destroyed because one of the lovers becomes a corrupted and warped version of their former self? It’s not a nice thing to happen, but it’s definitely interesting. If you’d spent your whole life with someone and loved them, up until a point where they go through the transformation Faolin went through… your brain would break the relationship, but your heart would still hurt and try to make it work. I’m not one for melodrama, but it’s a kitten sight deeper than most of the other stuff we see, so I’ll take it.
As for Braham and Rox, I’m in complete agreement there. There’s something going on, it’s subtle, but I like it. One moment it looks like they might hint something, the next Rox is acting like an auntie who’s been left to babysit.
I get what you’re saying, but if they’re not able to properly balance a large number of options/combinations of options, then surely it would be better to have fewer, more balanced, ones?
Except that this change brings a few of the more powerful builds into line with not-so-powerful ones, but still leaves a ton of other builds in the dust and still nearly useless in comparison? And better yet, a ton of them have just been removed instead of being balanced. Might as well just have one build per class, it’d be easier to balance, after all.
I just love how I’ve got a ton of useless traits in the lines I want. We really need a bit more choice and less reviving/fall damage will help.
I now have to swap out my gear on several characters to get back to the “sweet spot” of healing power, while gaining a tiny boost to unwanted stats on all of my characters. Yeah, I’m happy with having to replace my ascended stuff.
#I know a chap called Poobadoo~#
How about we form a quaggan strike force?
I’m fine with whatever relationships they want to throw at us, so long as we don’t have to wait for their dialogue to finish before we can progress with a story or just random “we’re lesbians!” with no context. Caithe x Faolin was done perfectly, in my opinion; it was there, but it was part of the actual plot, not just intruding – it didn’t feel forced. On the other hand, any relationship like Marjory x Kasmeer should just be removed – it’s added nothing and actually gotten in the way at times.
As for the imbalance of males to females, Rytlock is so manly that he makes up for the lack of manliness. Plus the list in the OP missed out Lord Faren – far more manly than most of the others.
Support appreciation thread? I’ll throw in a thanks too, they were very helpful in regards to an issue I had with the wardrobe update some time back.
Geographically, I understand the map choices. But sticking something like that in one of the most farmed zones in the game… there’ll be a lot of people getting beta access that a) don’t care or b) probably won’t even understand what it is.
Oh well.
Random, mindless complaining – that we can do without. But if there is a clear flaw in something upcoming, it makes more sense to tell Anet now instead of waiting for it to be completed and added to the live game.
Somewhat, but most of them never really stood out over adept and master traits anyway – in the same way that elite skills can be compared to utilities. Oh well, less choice here we come!
My necromancer and elementalist are definitely beyond repair, just from what I’ve seen from the posts (I really can’t be bothered with the streams). Elite specialisations and culled/merged traits could potentially ruin others too.
It has potential to be good, but the experimentation of the living story, the last trait revamp and the NPE have already given me a basis for where my expectations should rest at.
If you’ve got that many shards, don’t you have enough spare gold from all that chest farming as it is? There’s options to use them, but not everything needs to be monetised.
On an unrelated topic, could I turn my Mini Queen Jennah’s into gold?
Celestial weapons, so many armour sets, ranger armour that wasn’t all long coats and the ones that were long coats actually looked good, characters that looked more like warriors and adults… how could I possibly choose one thing?
Oh, wait, Mini Gwen-chan.
If you let me plug in my keyboard to play a racing game on a console, where every key does something… sure.
RPGs shouldn’t be played on controllers unless they’re designed for it, sorry.
If they added that, we couldn’t have more with trimmed sides.
So yes, definitely want to see that available.
Use a personal guild for bank and gold storage.
On the converse, I dislike games where I’m forced to play a 7’, muscular, lumbering brute with scars everywhere and a choice of three hairstyles. I’d gladly accept more customisation for our current races and stuff that makes sense (tengu, largos – maybe restrict the latter somehow though).
It would die. Buy-to-play is the cornerstone of Guild Wars. As much as I love this game, the content produced is not worth a subscription.
people will always buy such stuff.
It’s a shame that international shipping costs three times more than the already inflated prices of such merchandise, as it really turns away a lot of non-American business. Saying that, we had that kind of store around launch… the stuff’s still about, just no more of it was made and the prints and such were excessively overpriced. I guess it didn’t attract too much business.
(Would love to have a Caithe wall scroll and some sylvari themed stuff… would literally have a sylvari room. Don’t judge me!)

I use titles in games when they match my characters’… well, character. For example, my thief wears “The Tormentor” because of her personality and condition build. That’s what titles should be, in my opinion.
Title’s don’t command my respect or give you more points on some rating scale, it’s just a few words. At the end of the day, any supposedly difficult title can be cheesed and there’s no way to know whether someone is incredibly skilled, struggled but persevered to get it, or just cheesed. Hell, I’ve known people get someone else to play on their account to unlock stuff like this on other games.
At the end of the day, actions speak louder than words. However, if those words complement your character’s name, appearance or I suppose a roleplaying personality – that’s great.
While I don’t really see any precedent that would lead you to believe the fiery areas would be dyeable, the rest of your points are fair enough. Then again, so are a lot of the points made on the other threads I’ve seen about these two items.
I thought it was so hackers couldn’t attempt to gift upgrades to potential targets, to see whether the account would be worth the effort or not. Might be wrong, but I’m sure I’ve read that as reasoning before.
Skelk Venom and Water Spirit are the only weak ones, in my opinion. As others have said, a lot of these skills are situational. A slight buff here and there wouldn’t go amiss, but there are far worse off skills and traits to look at as a priority.
I could see this backfiring: imagine a new player has just finished downloading the game during a free trial weekend and goes to create their first character. What do they see when they try to create them? The hairstyle they want costs money!? Not only will they have to buy the game, but a simple hairstyle or face from the (total makeover kit) is being advertised for money a few seconds into their experience of the game. That’s a big warning sign and would scare quite a few people away.
I know it’s annoying, but I’d rather we have to spend two minutes having a bad hair day moment than scaring off new players.
This has been suggested many, many times; and while I wish it would happen, I doubt it will. It’s a shame, because we trade the inconvenience of going to a vendor to buy new tools for the inconvenience of going to a bank when we log out, depositing our tools, logging in on another character, going to a bank again and withdrawing those tools.
So, if I’m playing on my guardian, I’d have to swap character before I could join; as opposed to afterwards?
I see the logic behind the idea, but joining to get the spot and quickly swapping characters is a thing.
The question is, why do you want to grind for gear so you can grind for gear? It’s pointless and exists purely to serve itself. Games are supposed to be fun, at the end of the day – not be a second job.
Gear with stats does not take long to acquire. Skill, however, does.
