Gw2 isn’t as big as Lol

There’s the problem right there. If GW2 isn’t as popular as LoL, then a GW2 streamer won’t be as popular as a LoL streamer, will they? Besides, I’m not a fan of LoL, but I’ve been unfortunate enough to come across some of their streamers – I won’t go into details because I don’t want a forum ban for describing what some of them do (and are encouraged to do), but I don’t want that in this game’s community.

A lot of the Youtubers and fan sites already get special treatment as it is, they don’t need more. Then again, I never understood the whole appeal of watching someone else play a game instead of playing it myself; or hearing someone preach an opinion instead of forming my own.

Faction Rep

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chameleon Dude.1564

GW1 turned into a massive rep grind for the HoM, I don’t want that coming back to GW2. Sorry, it adds absolutely nothing to the game (rewards could easily be tied to something else) other than a grind. And then come the double rep weekends, cheese methods, etc that undermine everyone’s work and ultimately just annoy people.

If you want faction grind, go to a game with faction grind.

The guild I’m in has maybe 20 to 30 active players, and we have 800,000 points and max guild credits. Maybe you need to invite more people to your guild?

Smaller groups of friends or people who don’t have hours to play every day are kind of left behind here. If you can field a few dungeon groups a day, always have lots of events being done and have enough people to unlock and do guild missions, yeah it’s easy. Plus as the OP said, if your members are repping another guild…

If guild people are in are inactive, or have inactive “rep”, why should they get lots of points? The OP should kick the people who not help the guild with points, and find more friends who will rep.

This is just treating people as rep generators and guilds fighting over who owns them, not as friends and comrades. The new systems coming look a lot more promising ^^

Daily's and how it all works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

As a primarily PvE player who dislikes fractals… why are you complaining about these dailies? They’re perfect for someone like you.

Double daily fractal? Do a level 1 fractal with some easy going randoms wanting the daily and you get triple the loot thanks to the dailies! You can get fractal-related rewards for barely any effort.

Hate PvP? Step into a rank farm lobby for a couple of minutes and get three or four of the dailies. Getting a reward track just became a complete joke with no PvP involved! Now you can get that PvP-exclusive glorious armour, or some dungeon items you might not normally get!

Not a fan of WvW either? Well, I’ll be honest, this one isn’t always so simple. But capturing ruins, killing a veteran NPC next to your spawn, a couple of guards or a couple of dolyaks – hell, even capturing a supply camp is soloable PvE! Don’t want to be caught by players? Use stealth.

Personally, as a 99.99999% PvE player, the daily I hate most is the daily events one. Telling me to go to some random zone I have no business in is just a pain. Now go out and make the most of the rewards that Anet is letting you obtain without playing the game modes they’re tied to!

Yes and while you are at it separate the cooldowns between land and water.

For example I see no reason at all that if my engi runs towards a body of water and uses Rocket Boots (utility slot 1) to get into that water a little bit quicker, that once he is in the water his Bomb Kit (again utility slot 1 – this time for water) is all of a sudden on cooldown because he used Rocket Boots. What is the reasoning behind this? Please do tell……

I suppose that’s so you can’t pull a stronger enemy close to the water and hop in and out repeatedly to abuse cooldowns. Not that I can think of anything worth doing that for.

How about we get the real old Lion’s Arch? You know, the one from the original Guild Wars? That was a thousand times nicer than those huts built out of shipwreck.

But seriously, while I appreciate the reasoning behind it, any development time spent on making the old Lion’s Arch accessible would be a waste in my book. I love keeping things correct in the story’s chronology and having things for roleplayers, but the market would just be too niche.

I don’t like items because they’re super rare and unavailable any more. I like them because I like them. If they made Foostivoo the Merry available during the next Wintersday, I wouldn’t be upset at all (so long as he isn’t a 400 gem mini, or from a vendor for 10 snowflakes) – I like the little fella because he’s cute.

Any chance of having the achievement panel hints and tick list thing for this achievement become the standard, along with adding it to things such as coin collector, dive master and maybe even dungeon completion achievements (can’t say I see this one being particularly needed, but it doesn’t tell you which paths you’ve done).

This kind of achievement is fun, but when you feel pressured to do it all in one sitting and/or use a guide to do them… it takes away from the enjoyment of it.

Just something to consider. ^^

Thank you. I know it takes time after a crisis to get the PR together and make sure the chosen response is the right one, so I can appreciate the time taken to get this message out. I’ll still hold out on the expansion a little longer, as pre-purchasing offers very little incentives (not your’s in particular, just the concept in general) – a little more information on upcoming content is a must. But as for the pricing, lacking character slot, bundle and FAQ business – you’re in the clear again in my books. It felt weird being suspicious of you guys.

EDIT: Just informed my guild, half of which bought the game on sale after January and a couple of whom who got it via a third party. Good reactions all round, the guild is probably saved. My main concern has been alleviated. Thanks a ton!

Two Months Old Customer Felt Betrayed Already

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

Alright, I’ll bite.
You might actually have HAD a case for moral outrage if the sales had happened a week or two before expansion release. That isn’t much time to get anything done or learn a lot about the game, but in this case the sales happened MONTHS in advance.

Except the misinformation encouraging people to buy the game (on sale or at full price), as it was required for the expansion, was there until just after the expansion was released for sale with the game bundled in. Getting use out of the product or not, it was mis-sold. And let’s face it, if you’re in your first day/week/month of an MMO and you’re suddenly hit with the choice that you were overcharged or you have to have your account deleted to get a refund and then re-buy the game for that expansion you were drawn in by… that’s not a good impression and will probably result in no expansion being bought, or the refund being taken and the ex-new player leaving the game and quite annoyed with the company.

That mis-information was up while the sales were on; and even without a sale on, that mis-information was there saying that you’d need to buy the base game to be able to play the expansion. There were even sales through other merchants closer to the time to celebrate the upcoming expansion (not their fault I’m sure, how were they to know?), and people bought those because they’d been told something by Anet that wasn’t actually true.

Where this falls on the scale of “accidental PR and sales catastrophe” to “malicious scheming and moneygrabbing”, I don’t know (I doubt it’s at the far end of the latter though); but regardless of that – it’s happened and people have been affected by it.

Query: New Guild Features + disguised rant

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

This completely sums up my situation as well. Small guild of friends and friends of friends some of whom started playing a day or two before the announcement, not all of them can afford the expansion and others don’t particularly want to buy it after this fiasco. Deleting their current accounts for a refund and buying the pre-purchase instead? No. Even though some of these accounts are only a few days old, they’ve become attached to their characters. If they went for the refund, I doubt they’d put that money towards a pre-purchase. Losing your account on the first week of play isn’t exactly going to leave a good impression.

But yeah, potentially split guild here that might struggle with guild halls. =/

Challange, defend the HoT expansion price

Chameleon Dude.1564

The way I see it, it’s like going to eat at a restaurant. You go in, order your main, and eat it. Someone else arrives late, sits down at other table and decides to order. Since you’ve finished your main, you order dessert. You both finish your main and dessert and go to pay. The latecomer pays whatever the cost is and goes on his way. You, however, notice that your dessert had an extra charge – you were charged for the main again, being told that is was actually just the cost of the dessert. You also didn’t receive a second main, so you’re being asked to pay for something you’ve already had, but you don’t even receive an extra for whatever reason you’d want a second main meal.

At the end of the day, nothing is free in a bundle. Marketing aside, it’s all included in the price to try and make it look like a better deal.

Anyone bought HoT and happy?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

I plan on getting the ultimate edition as I regularly buy gems anyway, but I’m going to wait it out a little. I feel that including the base game, along with advertising to buy the base game on sale beforehand and stressing the need for it in the FAQ was a bit… yeah… a friend just bought the game for two people two days ago – our guild isn’t exactly thrilled by this. Moving the character slot down a tier to make it standard and adding something else to the deluxe to compensate would be more appropriate than the current offerings, in my opinion. And the handling of the sales, FAQ and base game, etc was just awful. I’m also expecting communication about all this to be pretty bad too, seeing the hostility.

Anywho, I’m going to hold on for a little while and see what happens. I know Anet have said things are final; and if anything did change, I’m sure people who have already pre-ordered HoT wouldn’t be left out… but due to the handling of this, I’m expecting something to change and would rather wait until after that has happened.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

  • Almost every time I’ve ran into roleplayers, I’ve seen people trying to disrupt them.
  • The game has next to no roleplay tools.
  • Several updates have even hurt the ability to roleplay.
  • They’re an endangered species, slowly fading away.

That would be why they’re often hiding and keep to themselves. As for being unwelcoming, I’ve never experienced that. Quite the opposite. Just need to keep looking, maybe head to one of the roleplay websites to find a group you’ll get on with (I can’t remember the names off the top of my head, unfortunately).

What would it take for gw2 to go esports?

in PvP

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

As has likely already been said:

  • Proper, frequent balance
  • Less cluster-kitten special effects for flashy skills
  • More noticeable effects for some of the more subtle skills
  • More skill-based gameplay
  • Expanding the meta so it’s not as limited
  • Less of the battle’s outcome being decided by passive traits, invisible to the viewer
  • Fancier llamas, possibly wearing tuxedos

GW1 was practically an e-sport with its frequent tournaments and in-game spectating menu (that only appeared when you pressed its key, not clogging up the top right of your UI), due to interesting, yet competitive modes (HoH wasn’t just bukering, but also didn’t have too many NPCs and mechanics in the way) and extreme build diversity (though that was too much of a hassle to balance, and was often done so questionably).

So for GW2 to become and e-sport, in my opinion, it would have to become a completely different game.

"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chameleon Dude.1564

Chameleon Dude.1564

Inquisitor
This is my short proposal about how some easy adjustments to the ‘dragonhunter’ e-spec works for an ‘inquisitor’ e-spec. I have discussed the advantages of the ‘inquisitor’ name over the ‘dragonhunter’ earlier in this thread, so I won’t repeat myself: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/DragonHunter-name-feedback-merged/5078126.

Weapon Skills: Weapon skills need minimal tweaks. Even then, these changes are not necessary for an inquisitor e-spec. I would just recommend renaming “Symbol of Energy” to “Symbol of Searing” and “Hunter’s Ward” to maybe “Seeker’s Ward.”

Heal, Utility, and Elite Skills: It turns out that the utility skills are more appropriate for an inquisitor motif than a dragonhunting one: e.g. Purification, Fragments of Faith, Light’s Judgment, Test of Faith, and Procession of Blades. So what of “Dragon’s Maw”? I don’t think that the animation needs to change, but it could simply be renamed to “Inquisitor’s Verdict.”

Traits: The traits would need to be given greater thematic cohesion for the inquisitor e-spec.
- Minor Traits: Virtuous Action, Defender’s Dogma, and Pure of Sight
- Adept Traits: Repenter’s Blood (Piercing Light), Zealot’s Aggression, Wings of Wrath (Soaring Devastation)
- Master Traits: Unwavering Zeal (Hunter’s Determination), Bastion of Faith (Bulwark), Inquisitor’s Mark (Dulled Senses)
- Grandmaster Traits: Confessor’s Grace (Hunter’s Fortification), Faith’s Repulsion (Heavy Light), Foebane (Big Game Hunter)

E-Spec Weapon and Armor Skins: The inquisitor armor could be a helm that mostly hid the face, being reminiscent of an executioner’s hood. The inquisitor weapon would be a longbow made to look similar to balancing scales (of justice). No such longbow exists in the game with such a motif. What of the preexisting dragonhunter longbow? ArenaNet can sell the dragonhunter longbow skin on the Trading Post. The gloves could be integrated into a dragon-motif heavy armor or outfit.

I’m really not a fan of the Inquisitor alternative, as I see too many ties to the White Mantle and religious zealotry. However, to me, this makes a ton more sense than Dragonhunter. Personally, I’m still in the Sentinel camp, as I feel the AoE support provided, along with being at the backline but also protecting other backliners is more suited to that name than most of the others I’ve seen floating around. As always though, this is an opinion and nobody’s opinions are right or wrong. Except for Anet’s, with their high concepts.

As is, to be honest, obvious: maize balm farmers are impeding heart progress and can be very aggressive; while obvious trolls who have killed enough ambients to complete the heart fifteen times over are probably griefing (remember though, there is an ambient creature slayer achievement).

At the end of the day, you’re free to farm that particular spot and get in other people’s way; but at the same time, other people are free to go there to complete the heart or go for the previously mentioned achievement. As long as both sides are keeping it civil and nobody outright admits to griefing, I can’t see any action being taken against players. That said, this is going to foster some hostility and will probably get ironed out at some point.
