hay all. about a week ago i finally finished my legendary twilight (took me 2 years).
im going to post this in this forum even though this does not have to do with the recipe or “crafting of it” however i think its slightly appropriate because these type of items are the hardest and most complex to craft in the game.
anyway i have a few questions about the twilight and other legendaries. and that is do they feel unfinished on some of the class’s? i equipped it to my mez and after a while i began to notice that it just is not nearly as grand as if it was on a war or a guard. granted it has some cool effects that normal mesmers dont have. however it just seems unfinished…like i expected more. like pallet swaps on some of my weapon skills or total animation changes in how i hold the weapon ect.
also what kind of improvements would be impractical or impossible for anet to give us?
as for the brain storming part
please list any legendary for a specific class or in general that you think is unfinished and some improvements that you have brainstormed
[mine] twilight on mez. : over all very lackluster in comparison to the 3 other class’s that use twilight because unlike the other 3 we dont swing our sword very often.
improvements :
1) pallet swap on spacial surge so that it will create the window effect that swinging twilight creates (does not linger as long as the other twilight effects as that would be anoying. however the effect should last as long as the spacial surge is being channeled if not slightly lingering (1 sec at most) after the Chanel.
2) have the phantasmal berserker carry twilight so when it attacks it creates a lovely whirl effect.
3) change the color pallet on illusionary wave to the window in to space effect that the twilight foot falls have
4) change the pallet on mind stab so that the tip of the blade that appears is a large tip of twilight.
(question . are these ^ possible/practical to do?)

I sometimes have bad lag and let me tell you its not fun with *some*mesmer skills.
For the most part illusions will hit their mark even if you are lagging. But skills like leap and swap are somewhat a different story. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve leaped only for the enemy to rubber band somewere else thus having my leap clone in the wrong place unable to swap and immobilize. Of course that’s just main hand sword. Everything else with mesmer works fine so far I can tell
Why it’s being nerfed?
1) no need to invest In healing power in order to make a passive heal work.
Passive heals are harder to counter then active heals. The reason for this is that a passive heal cannot be stoped like a active heal, and in order to have the same reduction of poison you need 100% uptime instead of poison active during the activation of a active heal. Also if you can have amazing sustain without the need to invest it allows you to focus what would have been needed to invest in healing power on offensive attributes=imbalance
2) this games gameplay should not revolve around passive gameplay. It should revolve around active gamplay. Otherwise it’s build to win and not skill to win.
For this reason the devs are going to be buffing the active of this skill as time goes on and reducing the sustain of the passive of this skill thus requiring investment In To healing power in order order to have the same sustain from just the passive. Thus fixing number 1.
(edited by Chaos.3579)
ya this skill is fine as is. sadly though not many mesmer use it because its ONLy good against projectile users :/
wish it was a 4-3 sec block even if it did not get hit with a projectile.
also yesteryday in wvw there was this killshot warrior….lets just say i caught his fast ball
wink
lol a moa complaint thread. gosh how long has it been since ive seen one of these…a year? oh this brings back memories
(edited by Chaos.3579)
There isn’t any food or weapon stats selected for the wvw link either.
fixed again no idea why the link did not keep my weapon stat choices. anyway food is up to you. i usually run 40 % increased condi duration to make my immobilize on my 1hsword 3 1/2 sec…….fun but to be perfectly honest while in wvw I pop some magic find food just so I maximize my drop chance of good loot XD
(edited by Chaos.3579)
I don’t know if it was a mistake or not but you keep Warden’s feedback in when you’re running GS+Sw/Sw in the spvp build. Also I’m thinking a build like this might be pretty useful against the many upcoming condition builds that this patch is sure to spawn.
ya those links are kinda glitchy. it should have a sword focus gs now….no idea why it switched to sword sword <.<
i made this build way way way back and have been refining and changing it ever since with updates, balance changes ect. my friends and enemy players have asked for my build constantly, and have even asked me to post it.
that is what i intend to do.
what i would like to say about the build is that i made it specifically to match my personal preference of play style. it can be played many ways and is in no way strait forward. keep this in mind
this build is my signature build because i am its original creator and user and i am rarely if ever seen on my mez not running this
- uses: pvp,wvw,pve- ANYTHING.
- trait speck: 20 ,20 ,0 ,30 ,0
or 4 ,4 ,0 ,6 ,0 - traits:
domination 1, 10
dueling 4, 10
inspiration 4, 8, 11
traits can be changed around to fit many variants i myself can change out dom 1 dueling 4 inspiration 4 and 8 to anything else available to match weapon choice or build type
WARNING this is not a phantasm build!.
despite running 6 in inspiration you cannot run a phantasm build with these current traits and if you switched out the dom and inspiration traits to match a phantasm build ideal you will be crushed!. why? because warden does 0 damage to a smart opponent and is only good for utility and berserker can easily be killed even with the 20% extra hp. i supose you could switch out weapons and such to make a actually effective phantasm build.
but at that point it wont be my build no wont it?
BUILD: - gear: full berserker stats
- rune: traveler
- weapons: great-sword, sword, focus
- sigils: 2 energy and 2 battle. 1 of each on each weapon set obviously
*heal-utility ether feast, blink, decoy,(last utility up to you), mass invis.
EDIT: battle has been nerfed. its not a horrible choice and is a overall good sigil however. there are now good runes you can run in place of it. such as air, doom, and many more. HOWEVER double energy is staple no matter what mesmer build you run!
If you want to see me using this build in wvw or spvp go ahead and click my twitch stream link and catch me when I’m on
for those that love to call builds/class’s cheese despite never running them accept my challenge of running my build trait for trait ether feast, blink decoy, arcane thievery mass invis full zerk traveler runes and just try to kill something ^__^ good luck!
you will need it.
come back with a video

im interested.
i dont do team arenas as im more of a solo player. however i am very skilled in team fights regardless.
rank 59 in solo pvp. i don like team arena. wait is too long
btw.
i do not want to be a substitute. i want to be in the game and not on the sidelines.
i will be glad to have 1v1 testing. however be sure to have a helmet. i tend to knock people in to walls on the floor :P
have fun….and call me ;D
(edited by Chaos.3579)
hello. i am mesmer looking for a team for the upcoming legendary tournament.
the build that i play is very single target focused dps type, that also is very cc fluent with focus and gs (i speak smack yo face around), and also am slightly supportive with perma-regen with phantasm(550 hp every 3 sec), shattered conditions(1 condition removed every time i shatter(which is alot)), and most importantly reflects. making me a perfect counter against projectile class’s/build’s, and somewhat supportive in a team fight.
what i would think is my role is
1) a roamer that moves from point to point so as to maximize our point accumulation. can get far, can get treb, can get buffs(with my cc and boon remover(if utility not changed) i can be very good at decapping far point very effectively with my cc on focus and gs.
2) in a team fight i am a single target dps. as in i will focus a single target. preferably a enemy glass cannon that i can shut down easily thus taking the heat off my team at that point. i will also use my cc to help decap if attacking, or if defending pull multiple enemies and stack them if the chance is provided allowing my team to pull off very amazing team aoe destruction plays if coordination is there.
i have ts, vent, and i am very sure i can get whatever voice communication the team has.
ps: i do not want to be a substitute. i will only play as 1 of the 5.
please send me a mail in-game or a pm on the forums if you are interested.
have fun
i dont tourny alot as i am a wvw roaming nut. but currently i am rank 59 in solo tounrys.

Its a heavy armor you can get from the twilight arbor token vendor.
You get the tokens by doing various paths that the dungeons offers.
As for medium armor with scales…….http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Emblazoned_armor
best I got
hay all. anyone know what the drop rate is?
because either my luck sucks or the drop rate has hit the ground and vanished(ive done over 30 lvl 30ish fractals and yet have not gotten a skin EVER this month. even though i remember getting tons of skins in the 10s and 20s around 5 months ago…..
also
why is it only rng based? did anet give a explanation EVER for this ?
currently i would love to get another fractal 1hsword(so i can duel wield). but sadly i cannot seem to get it no matter how many runs i do(ive done over 30 lvl 38 fractals)
why cant i simply pay 1,000 fractal relics for a FRACTAl skin? why is this option not available? why must i undlessly farm a tedious dungeons with mediocre rewards and yet not have a guarantied chance for the weapon i desire???
Looking at my sylvari I tend to be somewhat disappointed with my look unless its night and my glow is shining.
Without the glow my eyes don’t look right and overall my character looks very bland.
I’ve seen my sylvari with the glow in a very well lit place and I have to say in comparison to a day time sylvari in a place just as bright it’s far more cool looking and does not look bland or unfinished. My eyes POP and really have a soul and my skins color and glow pattern really gives my character a unique appearance.
Could sylvari have a option were we glow all the time be it night or day and perhaps also a option to have that glow be constant?(for some reason it goes off and on =/ )
I understand its supposed to be bioluminescent however there just is something missing in the sylvari skin and eye tone without the glow during the day.
Anyway what the rest of you sylvari think?
What needs to be done to Lyssa is this
- get rid of the ALL BOONS crap.
-reduced number of conditions removed by 3
-changed so conditions removed actually are transmuted to boons
[Utility skills]
[Mantras] : reduce channeling time to 2 seconds
(The issue with running full mantras is that you will ultimately be in a situation were you will constantly be channeling the mantras leaving you vulnerable. Bu reducing the Chanel time by 3/4 sec I think it will greatly increase their viability.
although what I personally think should be done is to give each individual mantra a channeling time based on its cool down and effectiveness so that stronger mantras will need a longer cast Time and weaker mantras will need a shorter cast time.
[signet changes]
(The problem with signets is that some of their passive abilities are far too week or too situational in order to be of use and even when using their active abilities that still leaves us with a very long cool downs for some.)
[Signet of midnight]
Changed passive to give a 25% increase movement speed
[signet of illusions]
Now also a stun breaker
-instant cast
Out of ideas for the rest of the signets. As my ideas for domination and inspiration would be a crazy rework.
[crazy phantasm idea] somewhat unrelated.
another suggestion is somewhat a fix for phantasm meta and total lack of Mesmer aoe. More or less.
The issue with Mesmers phantasms is that we can have 2 of the same phantasm out. Such as 2 swordsman or 2 berserker. Overall this results in the opponent being overwhelmed by 3 phantasms 2 of which are the same type. If mesmer could not summon another phantasm when we already have one of the type we wish to summon out things would be a lot more balanced.
How this could be done would be to replace the phantasm summoning skill with another skill when that phantasm is out. Granted of course that skill would have a cd already proceed when the phantasm I summoned
So for a example if I summon a phantasm berserker (20 sec cd untrained)
When 20 seconds go by instead of being able to summon another phantasmal berserker I instead will be able to use a powerful targeted aoe skill that I could command my phantasm to use what that skill would be is up for debate and balance however for this example let’s say its whirling wrath. So when that skill comes off dc I click it. Choose a location. Then my phantasm will stop what he’s doing and go to the location and use that skill in the aoe I designated. Perhaps the phantasm could teleport to the location so as to improve the flow? Who knows. There are a lot of detailed in terms of balanced to be checked out I guess.
However
for balance reasons if that skill is used even if the phantasm Is killed we will have to wait for the cd on our phantasm berserker “unique skill” to end before we can summon him again. This would make it more harder to use and more tactical to use as you could not just spam phantasm like we are doing right now.
So you will either have to choose if you want to not use that phantasm unique skill and instead wait so you can re summon him right when he dies/shattered.
Or use the skill and have to wait for the cd in order to re summon the phantasm if it dies.
Overall this would give us more control over our phantasms and potential of aoe while at the same time reducing the no Brainer phantasm ai spammers we have right now.
It would be a work in progress because functionality, chosen skills per phantasm, balance cool downs and damage would have to take place..but overall it seems to me like a solid idea.
Edit: lookin over this I can c tones of spellcheck errors/typos. Too tired to fix any of em so be nice :P

Gw2 Mesmer improvements
Weapon skills
[Mainhand sword] (want to fix a annoying bug that has been bugging me forever)
[Leap] : changed the clones leap skill to monarch’s leap (ranger skill) in order to give the skill z axis climb thus allowing the skill to be more easily used on uneven terrain.
[offhand focus]
(Overall i find the focus very underwhelming and filled with bugs or unintended issues. though even with that it is my favorite. It takes the most skill to use as a mesmer and is more so the weapon of a strategist then a warrior. What I want to do is improve its offensive capabilities in a balanced way while at the same time removing a lot of the issues it has
[Temporal curtain]
Large increase in hight so as to eliminate the unreliable projectile reflection when used with the focus weapon trait.
the skill will now also apply 5 seconds of fury in addition to the swiftness
( I think this is fair because we do not have any weapon skills that apply fury except for a random chance on winds of chaos(staff) and that’s condition based.
the skill will now inflict 5 seconds of weakness to foes that walk through it in addition to the crippled.
(I think this is balanced because unlike most other skills the opponent needs to be the one to walk through it. Both these changes I think will allow a skilled Mesmer to take advantage of the weapon in a offensive strategic way.
[phantasmal warden] revert changes so it will no longer “chase” the target and will execute its attack even when out of range of its target..
(Please…..I don’t have to explain why do I? T.T )
[Great-sword]
Somewhat debatable so I’m not surprised if I am flamed
[Mindstab]
- will steal the boon and transfer 1 condition we have to the target.
-If multiple targets are in aoe 1 boon will be stolen from each target and conditions we have will be transferred to the foe up to the number of conditions we have 1 per target.
-If the target does not have a boon increased damage by 5%
-If we don’t have a condition increase damage by 5%
Overall this skill is total lackluster week in utility and damage, and the fact that it has such a minuscule aoe brings it over the edge. So I thought it could be improved in many interesting “mesmer like” ways. Note it does not have to be one or all of these improvements so its most certainly up for debate. However what’s not up for debate is this: v
-is now a blast finisher!
(edited by Chaos.3579)
Anddd we have a winner! That’s awesome Chaos, and ty for the kind words. I still haven’t forgotten your cliffside suggestion either, just looking for a right time to implement it. Btw, if you have a screenshot of your Mes and link to your build I’d be happy to implement them.
As for the questions, you gotta remember that since this isn’t constricted to game balance, different Mesmer would be able to use their abilities to different magnitudes. More powerful Mesmer could stealth longer than others, Blink/Mirror Images more often, ect.
ty for having this little contest. it was easy as i play all the class’s and mesmer and ele are 2 of my favorites(although Mesmer is my FAVORITE of them all). so it was easy to recognize all of skills as they were described. anyway here is a pick(at bottom) of my character “The King of Chaos”
although if you want to implement my character in to the story perhaps simply having my name be “Chaos” would be better. although i guess i would prefer the formality of “King Chaos”. not to say i am snooty. instead i would think that i wanted my character to be noble by title :P
as for my build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vgAQNAsdRlknpMtlqxRNcrNic6B0tcTHJFtWqVSBvdhA-z0BBYfCiUEA0HRMzsIaslhFRjVXDT5iIqOAACwELxSciBm4En4En4E76SciTciTMA-w
i switch utility all the time depending on what i am fighting(such as switching nullfield for arcane theivery(fun)) although for the most part i keep the utility in the build shown as default.
overall my character’s personality is very noble, calm, collected, sharp to a point yet very flexible to situations, more of a pacifist to anything, and does not like groups but rather likes to walk alone. and most importantly has the aura and feeling of silver.
i rather like silver because its not a color and its directly between the shade white and black. in other words its a pure color which i think really reflects his soul in the eyes (why i went with silver )
also to note i am almost done with my twilight (just need a few tier 6 mats and dusk really) and i really think that twilight will complete my characters look and personality.
also twilight being the center point of darkness and light has a very interesting bond with chaos which is the anarchy like combination of opposites such as light and dark. also its somewhat of a alter ego as twilight is somewhat dark while my charecter is very bright and silvery. which is why i find such a bond with twilight as my soon to be signature weapon.
besides gs though i use anomaly and the fractal 1h sword(loved the silver as it matches my eyes)
i wanted sword focus because i wanted my character to be a 1handed swordsman when not using his GS and because i did not want my character holding anything in his other hand i used anomaly which really fitted that desire( although i wish anomaly was silver :/ )
anyway gl with your story. here is the pic

Give me silver-grey palette swap and you got me.

Sadly anet won’t do this because of limitations that the game has T.T
Lame auto attack??? ……bu bu but its lazers Pew pew pew pew pewpewpew ……
What ya use to record/ediT the video?
Interesting….why indeed…..then again this is anet. We are simple gamers that try to comprehend the minds of the people that shape this game only to be more confused then when we first started.
Also how ya get the distance to show? What program or setting?
…..Mesmers are the most boring class….before 80. At 80 with good gear all70 traits and at lvl 80 they are the most fun. At least to me.
GET your mesmer to 80. Only then can you understand SOME of the fun mesmer is capable of
Also crafting to 80 is not very efficient and costly because of the acended crafting that poped in a while ago. Go farm spvp for glory and get some tomes of knowledge or maybe do a champ farm in frost gorge and farm some scrolls of knowledge.
I’ve been playing for a while. And when I get a scroll of knowledge I just store it in my bank. It’s pretty fun playing on your main and yet leveling your characters passively by collecting scrolls of knowledge.
Already leveled 3 chars with scrolls of knowledge .
It’s always fun to see the blasts of light as you level a char from 1-80 in a minute
(edited by Chaos.3579)
That would be cool….and its balanced because we would need to put 30 in to dueling in order to get dueling discipline AND deceptive evasion

When fighting ANY thief the most important thing to do is recognize right off the bat what weapons they are using.
For a example if the thief is using offhand dagger then you may want to shatter your illusions when you think the thief is about to cnd off of them.
As for this perma stealth condition thief you are talking about. What weapons was he using?
Pistol dagger?(most common condition thief) when fighting these thieves I usually run arcane thievery. Wait until then get to around 50% health then try and bait out a Condie burst of bleeds poisons and torment and then BAM!! Give them a taste of their own medicine for the finishing blow. Gets them every time.
As for tactics it’s all about stoping that cNd on your illusions and stoping them from getting close enough to use their shadow strike.
Do that and their dps dies.
Simple in theory but….with the thieves mobility, abundance of targets for cnd through your illusions, and instant teleports to your location it’s easier said than done.
(edited by Chaos.3579)
I run traveler runes and focus offhand all the time(even though focus broken. I MAKE IT WORK!) I still can’t catch some class’s and specific builds but most I can. Although it’s more about persistence and intelligence in how you get around more so than anything.
Just yesterday I got a ranger down to 5% and chased that coward up and back DOWN the map and ended up killing him were the fight started XD.
All about choosing the most efficient direction to run and to take advantage of your blink and other teleports in order to get over those hills you have to usually go around.
However it does annoy me that Mesmers cant really keep up without focus offhand or traveler runes.
Anet should replace the boon duration on signet of midnight with a 25% speed increase
What gloves are those? I’ve been looking for a finger-claw like gloves for my male mesmer.
what makes this skill very hard to use on specific targets is aegis and blind
would be cool if aegis and blind did not affect this skill.(transfers blind/ steals ageis)
would make the only counter invulnerability or evasion. which is justified.
great-sword for Mesmers is very solid weapon with very little need of improvment.
the only issue i think is skill 3. its just so week. 1 boon? extremely small radius(is there something smaller?) and totally week -mediocre damage.
there needs to be improvement in functionality or damage to this skill.
such as changing the functionality so the boon is stolen. or perhaps in addition to the boon being ripped a condition we have could be transfered over to the target.
or maybe keeping the skill as is but increasing the aoe by 150-200% normal size.
Try Lichen, I have that skin tone on my vari necro and I think it’s pretty close. The painting has a lot more variation than you’ll get in game though.
My mesmer vari has a very dark tone, I forget the name but it’s super dark green verging on black (Nightwood, maybe? It’s toward the bottom right of options when you scroll right). He has vivid deep pink leaves with a bright purplish pink glow.
Here they are:
What gloves are those the sylvari with orange armor is wearing ?
PU is not only amazing in 1v1 or small scale. it is just as amazing in large group fights and many other aspects of the game. i know this because i have used and tested PU before and after PU buff
You keep saying this, but everyone else says you’re wrong. What use is PU in a Zerg fight? You’ll stay alive, congrats I guess? You’ll still be useless. Other aspects of the game? Like what? PvE? Lol. The only other place for PU is in solo queue, or maybe lower ranked (less than top 1000) team queue, and it’s not stellar there either. You’re simply wrong.
lol i don’t know why you and so many others are coming to the conclusion that PU is ONLY good at defense. with the right set up it can have the majority of attack power that other Mesmer builds have. granted they cant match shatter builds with illusionary persona. however they can match the condition damage and single target phantasm builds to match other Mesmers.
if the PU users illusions don’t work thats only because aoe counters illusions and is in no way a PU weakness more so than the Mesmer class as a whole.
i have used PU. i know how it works in the majority of PVP scenarios.
why i consider it OP is because it can retain the attack power of many Mesmer builds while also giving them a ridiculous amount of survivability in comparison.
whats more is that its a very easy style to pick up and develop with a good starting build.
so the fact that
1) its easy to use
2)has a very good effectiveness to match other top Mesmer builds
results in
3) a new meta build that the majority of Mesmers will/are using then destroying the diversity we see mesmers use,and by extension our viable diversity as some mesmer builds which were average in effectiveness are then less than average in comparison to ths type of build in skill to effectivness ratio
skill to effectiveness ratio being
how easy it is to use in relation to how effective it is.
@Chaos
the purpose of balance isnt to make the game fun… its to make the game fair. Not necessarily equal, but fair. Imbalances are what make a game a game. Without them two players of equal skill would fight to a draw every time, If you want perfect “balance” play tic tac toe.
i could have given you a huge lecture on what is the point of balance but instead i gave you a simplified one…too simplified apparently
to make the game fair is to make the game fun. if it is unfair then the game is no longer fun for 1 side(or 2 if the OP user notices that the victory is sour).
by balancing the game and making it fair overall you can support the point of the game which is to have fun for all the players.
also you and many others have the idea that what i am only talking about is 1v1 or very small scale balance. in actuality i am lecturing you on the philosophy or the correct mindset or understanding that needs to take place in order to understand balance, and not come to the conclusion that balance does not matter according to other philosophies such as “sun tzu’s art of war”, or “playing to win”. those philosophies are irrelevant when discussing about balance and yet so many use that card.
PU is not only amazing in 1v1 or small scale. it is just as amazing in large group fights and many other aspects of the game. i know this because i have used and tested PU before and after PU.
it is not good in capturing points in conquest as i have mentioned before. but thats not because the trait is week there. instead its simply because of how the stealth mechanic works with capture points.
however everything besides focusing on capturing or defending a point it is very strong in terms of survivability and with the right utility very supportive.
(edited by Chaos.3579)
there are alot of very egotistical elitist trolls in this forum. (you know who you are, or you will after this post.)
i have a education for you.
before we start let me educate you that this is a thread about “balance” (we will get back to this.)
you seem to all have a incorrect idea of balance due to your philosophy of “winning is all that matters”. you will call anyone that tries to educate you on balance or a philosophy on what is right and wrong in regards to winning or fair combat a scrub. how is this not elitist and egotistical?
here is the actual mindset you need to have when determining if something is balanced or not in this game.
1) the purpose of this game:
the purpose of this game is to have fun (duh!). but not as a individual. in actuality all are supposed to have fun on both sides of a confrontation.
the purpose of this game is not winning as you seem to think.
2) the purpose of balance:
the purpose of balance in this game is to keep the game fun for both sides. if there is a imbalance then it causes aggravation for one side or the other and destroys the point of the game.
3) there are still TONS of imbalances in this game ranging from many class’s, builds, skills, and stat types.
it is not perfect as you trolls seem to think. its funny how you hold yourself up in high esteem because you think this way, AND will troll other people who object this idea by calling them scrubs*. HA
the philosophy of “winning no matter what is used” is not a philosophy that belongs in the discussion of balance. its simply a way for egotistical trolls to alienate themselves and those around them in to winners and scrubs.
there is no point to it that will help this community or really anything really besides feeding their own ego.
you are a embarrassment to the Mesmer community and don’t belong here
Also I would gladly get rid of PU if Anet gave mesmers our own cleansing ire, dogged march and warrior spirit traits: (conditions last less, can not be immobed or rooted as much, and 25% speed boost on top) i would gladly give up stealth for that.
I would prefer if Anet added abilities in place of those things that were more actively controlled than passive. That way things don’t keep floating in the direction of mechanicless immunities like warriors with berserker stance, diamond skin, or anything else similar. Complete immunities don’t encourage any type of good pvp.
You hit the nail in the head, I have tried to run lockdown builds, shatter, etc. In the end I mainly die to the passive immune builds or end in a never ending stalemate. Thieves running perma stealth with condition or bow with some weird pistol perma evade stealth build, warriors with high crit damage and run away speed capabilities healing full with signet, rangers running some evade build with heavy condi pets, and guardians with the everlasting perma regen retal combos and with the new heal can tank a ton of damage and get healed right back up, at this point I don’t know what to expect yet in the march 18 patch. Mesmer isn’t the only class with passive easy gameplay, every other class has one , but mesmer takes most of the flak for it and it kittens me off.
the idea that if someone has or would do something means that its ok for us to do it is a very low and pathetic excuse.
yes some class’s have some pretty low builds that are op. however should we really drop down to the level of the player using it ?
just food for thought. think of how high your respect for yourself is.
The problem isn’t that other builds aren’t more viable. It’s that other builds aren’t as easy as PU.
Shatter is perfectly viable. Condition builds without PU are viable. The “problem” is that it’s harder and more risky to roam with this way, and people don’t like that. Players want everything handed to them easy mode, and it seems the new mesmer community is quickly going down that same mindset route.
This is why PU is a crutch. Players do well with it, think it’s because they’re a good mesmer so they try something else and fail. “Well PU is our only viable option.”
No. It’s because while you’re using a build that allows you to ignore half of the classes mechanics, and ignore basic game mechanics (map awareness, smart dodging), you progressively become more and more dependent on the build that allows you to do all of this and can’t be bothered to learn anything else.
This is why I’ve said in every thread about this topic: The type of players that this build has spawned are embarrassing to me and if/when the nerf happens I’ll be more than happy to see them drop the class.
I can see the threads now: “PU build nerf! Mesmer destroyed can’t possibly play moving to warrior.”
could not have said it better myself. only truly skilled Mesmers with a good understanding of balance thinks this way.
hello fellow players. i have been working on twilight for a very VERY long time now. and i just finished my tier 6 mats. i now only need dusk to finish the lovely thing. however sadly my only options to get dusk is praying to the rng gods before mystic toileting my life away, getting it through a lucky 1 in a BILLION lucky chance drop…..or just buying it off the tp for a idiotic sum of gold that would take me a 6 months-year of constant farming to buy.
however i was told..i dont know…1 year ago??? that there was going to be a precursor scavenger hunt/ recipe/ SOMETHING. so that i could get my precursor through some kind of crafting or mystic forge recipe by collecting some mats, maybe some karma/skill point requirement ect. anything to stop the idiocy of having to be 777 leaf clover lucky or a farming/TP god in order to get my precursor.
i have been waiting patiently and i will continue to do so as i farm gold probably for the next 6-8 months. however i cant help be the least bit a annoyed that we have all been waiting such a long time and yet it still has not come out or at least some kind of information about it or anything really besides “it is coming in the future….maybe”
is there any information i maybe missed? what are your thoughts on this?
i understand that people believe that a certain class should have a ability because it “fits them”. however you have to take in to consideration balance.
mesmer already has good access to cc. too add aditional cc to utility elite, heal, trait, weapon or anything would be somewhat imbalanced.
the mesmer is suposed to dazle the opponent so they look at us like we are gods when we kill them. not make them run away screaming.
got my support. warden has been broken for too long!
OMG YES!!!!! focus is my favorite offhand weapon. i was so heartbroken when arenanet broke by making it “follow target”. its usuless when it follows target!!!!. please fix warden by winding back the clock on what you did to it anet
Nope. Phantasm builds are already ridiculously powerful, I’d rather not have one of the more skillful counterplays removed.
it is a skillful counter on some class’s in which they have to time their blind perfectly with very few possible attempts.
thiefs on the other hand…..hmmmmm its most certainly debatable if they have too many blinds in which they can spam one after another in specific specks. dagger pistol comes to mind
the argument is not about builds more so then it is about diversity
pyros argument was “One trait/set of builds has absolutely no significance on the potential diversity of a class,”
although it does not effect “potential” diversity that does not mean it does not effect what the diversity of builds you will see players using when playing the game.
…snip…
the problem with your argument is that its not the fault of PU that its the best option of the builds. The other builds have been trimed and nerfed to the point where there is no point in using them. The diversity has been killed because everytime we find something that works the devs make a point of carving it out of existance…
i would agree and disagree with this. yes i think the devs have nerfed some unjustified things breaking specific specks and pigeonholing us in to meta builds. however even if those builds were brought back to their viable state PU would still be a issue.
it simply is too strong with very little counters available to some builds and by extension entire class’s to compete with it. and because of this it is destroying the fun of the game for those that face it in the wrong speck which is 95 % of the time.
before they buffed it PU was a solid trait. i used it in a variety of builds. you could say i made a backwater type speck original ages ago way before PU buff along with many other stealth type builds.
however it was not used alot and was a rare sight to see
the reason people did not use it was because it was in the grandmaster section which i think was somewhat unjustified. if arena net wanted to promote diversity they should have moved the trait to the master section. not buff it to insanity.
I’m wondering why you mentioned healing signet when it has literally nothing to do with the build a warrior could be running. Just like a majority of mesmers run ether feast, or how most necros run consume conditions, a majority (if not all) warriors run healing signet because it’s the superior heal, it’s not the sign of some specific build.
Yeah, it’s not exactly the most sensible argument. I’m just too tired to write up another detailed response to his gibberish.
funny. you should know that some things will appear like gibberish to those that do not understand it because of a lack of knowledge or intelligence.

put simply if a class has access to a build or skill that outshines all opposition then chances are you will not see very often variations that could have taken place. yes the potential for diversity is there but it is not seen.
also there is something you have to consider which is viable diversity. for a example if build or skill A was the average effective build or skill out there and build or skill B was the new build that came in because of a new patch and outshines in effectivness build a. then the viable diversity will be shifted.
as more and more people flock to build B. build A will lose its effectivness in situations in which it fights build B or is compared in effectiveness to it. thus it will no longer be the average effective build and its effectiveness in comparison to the average will be lowered
you can see this in the warrior class now. some builds that were averagely viable then are not nearly as viable now because in comparison the meta warrior has shifted past it thus changing what is average effectivness

Which is why we see tons of mesmers in all these aspects of pvp right? Oh wait…
1) we do see these PU mesmers in ALL of these pvp areas. AND there numbers are growing in popularity. if you came out of structured pvp and played some wvw once in a while you would see this too.
Aside from things like boon strip or aoe?
2)right..(facepalm…do i really have to aswer these poorly worded and idiotic arguments you come up with?)
does warrior have boon strip?, how about ranger? ele? as for aoe…oh gosh do i rally have to answer this idiotic question. its pretty obvious to anyone that actually plays the game that the abilities to effectively and COMPLETELY counter stealth AND boons or any close effect are only available to less than 4 of the class’s. those class’s also have to then use a build that specifically utilizes several tools that counter stealth and boons (among other things) in order to shut down the survivability that the stealth and JUST THIS TRAIT provides
get the logic yet?
PU gives no boost to disengagement potential. 1 second of stealth duration means nothing for a disengage. All disengagement potential for mesmer comes from other tools appropriately used.
3)lol wow really? there is tons of disengagment potential with just 3 second stealth.
so what about a few 4 second stealths chained together. decoy 4 seconds, the prestige(torch)4 seconds 4+4=8. 8 seconds of stealth 2 skills. really? you are going to tell me that this trait does not allow disengagement potential by itself. HA. god knows what it can do in combination with other skills and tools. keep in mind what the trait can do BY ITS SELF. the real idiocracy is that it does that with minimal resources and effort.
Sustained dps potential through illusions? Don’t make me laugh. You’ve got at best 1 high damage phantasm (since a PU build will be using torch). It takes a second or two of dpsing to kill a phantasm from a PU build, so care to enlighten us as to where this sustained dps potential is coming from?
4)the most common PU build is of course condition (because of that blackwater build i warned you and many others about.) condition in order to be effective simply needs constant applying of high damaging conditions. duh! so because illusions in most builds will apply bleed along with other conditions depending on weapon (staff-blackwater remember) along with the ability to summon more phantasm while in stealth, (you can summon phantasms without breaking stealth (amazing right!!!))
and the fact you can summon clones just by dodging. it simply boils down to allowing the Mesmer to have a constant 3 illusions up constantly applying conditions all while the Mesmer sits nicely in a stealth. this same thing can be aplied to phantasm type builds in that the mesmer can sit in stealth that was initiated by a utility or elite(does not need to use torch) and keep a constant up time of phantasm and by extension good “sustained” damage that cannot be easily countered all while again remaining perfectly safe in stealth.
Cute. The lack of build diversity stems from the fact that almost no mesmer builds are viable at anything currently, not from the existence of a single trait as you seem to think.
5)
lol wow you really take things far too literally. it is a comparison ideology. “why use this when that offers you more and for less?” its a ideology that if the mesmer class was exposed to something so good that EVERY build that could take advantage of it would instead of taking other routes for more diversity. beleve it or not this is something you can see mroe clearly if you look at another class (check my number 6)
One trait/set of builds has absolutely no significance on the potential diversity of a class, arguments otherwise make absolutely no sense.
6)
healing signet……..must i say more? does that make enough SENSE TO YOU
if PU was more available. as in if it was the first minor trait point in chaos or something of the like in which all builds had access to it. do you really think people would not take it?
There’s nothing wrong with the PU trait, some people just need to get over themselves.
7)
there is most certainly something wrong with the PU trait. i should think you and many other self deceiving people should look at the trait and realize that a lot of their pvp survivability (in all pvp scenarios) has far more too do with that trait then it does with their skill. and put simply they should “get over themselves” and realize that this trait is far more then they are.
(edited by Chaos.3579)
It’s pretty simple. People don’t like to lose 1v1 fights. PU builds happen to be very strong in 1v1 fights. Therefor, people love to complain about PU.
this is a very mislead argument pyro
PU in terms of survivability is just as strong in dueling as it is in every other PVP apsect of the game that players can participate in. wvw, small scale fights, gvg, 1v?, roaming, ect.
the only place it is week. or rather pointless is conquest were stealth stops point contesting, and thats not at all related to the trait more so than the stealth mechanic.
the trait needs a nerf. it mindless gives a ridiculous amount of survivability on top of the already amazing survivability of stealth.
there are no counters or tactics that even half of the class’s can use to counter PU survivability, no way to counter disengagement potential, and no way to counter sustained dps potential through illusions while remaining undetectable and untargetable through a long and extended chain of stealths
its just too good with no skill investment needed from its user.
thus why would someone use something thats less effective and takes more skill?
this trait destroys viable diversity
so in order to preserve viable diversity among the users of the Mesmer profession this trait needs a nerf/major functionality change or we will watch as the majoirty of mesmer builds are devolved in to a meta based on utilizing the survivability staple that stealth combined with this trait provides….oops seems this has already happened. just like it happened to warrior.
(edited by Chaos.3579)
The reason many people don’t like it is because it gives a ridiculous amount of survivability from
the stealth-alone is amazing (do I need to explain why?
Almost perma protection (75-50%uptime) – a ridiculous amount of damage mitigation when In stealth or when exiting stealth.
Aegis 75% of the time when in stealth – can be very hard to counter attack as you have to remove that aegis first before you can cc or do a big damaging moveh.(can be amazing) makes it very hard to hit the mesmer in stealth if they have aegis during the time also.(earth quake, fear mark, mesmer great-sword push/focus pull ect)
Regeneration 50% of the time(100% up time if 15 points in inspiration) overall not that noticeable unless the mesmer runs a lot of healing power. However it still adds considerable survivability in the long run.
All while keeping the mesmers offensive capabilities in phantasmal and condition areas intact. In fact it also improves the offensive abilities because there is less of a counterattack you have to worry about. So you can focus more on offense then defense. Along with the added bonus of the fact that clones and phantasms can attack while you are stealthed AND you can summon additional phantasms while in stealth to keep up your dps sustain.
^all that and from a few stealth skills and this one trait. (and any other traits that you get along the way investing in the trait line chaos.)
Put simply the majority of players (mesmers and other class’s) believe the trait is OP. And rightly so.
It is found in the majority of Mesmer meta builds that have the trait points to invest 30 in chaos because of how strong this trait is. Just too good to miss a chance to abuse this trait.
I liked PU before they buffed it a while ago. I had a stealth condition, phantasm, mantra builds and many more. Sadly with how the trait is now….i feel sick using it. Too cheesy. No need to try and survive except to spam my stealth skills.
I think they should nerf/ change how it works.
Would be cool if they increased the interval to 3 seconds and made it give the boon to nearby allies also. Or made it so it will give all 3 boons on entering stealth.
However as it is right now is unacceptable. It’s just a idiotically overpowered survivability staple in the Mesmer meta

Great post +100 char.
Agree with everything you said. This would make the game far more transparent and far more easier to balance the passive aspect of the game.
Also
Why does this post have so few replies???
How is ele UP again? They strike me as a class with great survivability and good damage through normal and condition means regardless of build variation for d/d.
They strike me as one of the most solid class’s in the game right now not looking at the lack of build diversity(needs more weapons).
