I can agree to this.
When I played a Necro (even though I sucked hard at it) I always thought that was the most useless trait. It never last until I was in another fight and if it did it was so low in hp or taking damage so fast from it’s own tick and AE that it was dead anyway.
Useless as is.
Just started War a week or so ago myself and have been running 0/30/0/10/30 condition build that I really enjoy. I was using the 10/30/0/0/30 build from fives months ago but decided to alter it a little bit to my own playstyle and to practice for WvW.
In sPvP I use the sword/axe + Longbow combo (mostly using LB) but I’ll probably use Rifle + Longbow in wvw. It’s pretty effective at 1v1 and team fights (especially team fights). I’m just not used to all the buttons/combos yet so I’m not good at all yet. But I don’t lost a lot of 1v1’s. Mostly just against thieves and bunker builds.
I’m pretty happy to see people trying builds like this. I’ve only seen it a couple times. As I said, I’ve beaten it before. It’s not an issue.
I also see PW on occasion which is refreshing, but this is one I can’t say I’ve ever seen before this past week or so. Backstab burst seems to be the favorite still.
As for those saying l2p, you should probably l2Read. Just saying.
I wasn’t expecting this thread to get this much attention either lol I’m glad Jumper got to see it though. Hah. Fun times man :P I’m just happy people are trying new things. Now if only bunker builds weren’t running rampant.
Not a whining thread, just putting it up for anyone unaware of it. Constant avoids, really hard to hit with anything.
I think I’ve beaten it with condition damage but only if they didn’t get a surprised backstab or anything in first.
Simple, as the title says. Give us the option to designate a weapon as an off-hand, primary, or neither via right clicking the weapon. It isn’t a huge annoyance but having a weapon in your OH that is also a primary can be slightly annoying.
For example: most people by now use their Warhorn or something to get a swiftness boost whenever possible. When switching it out you have to right click the weapon in your inventory and re-equipt as off-hand if it can also be used as a primary, else it defaults to primary. It can get tedious when you do this often.
They definitely benefit way too much from healing, that’s one of the bigger issues.
I’ve never been beaten by one in 1v1, but outside the 8v8 zergs that isn’t the name the of the game is it?
They can contest a point indefinitely in some cases and you either waste time trying to 1v1 (because your team is zerging) and either die to him and his teammate that showed up or you give up and go elsewhere. Either way, you will be tied up too long to be of any use to your team.
Game Over
I looooooooooooooove this event and think it’s the best one they’ve done yet. But honestly I think it would lose its charm after a few weeks once the rest of the event is implemented.
That being said I would however love to see this type of event again down the road and would love to see this one again next year with different skins available, or maybe even the same ones just for newer folks to get.
I think the rewards for this event were GENIUS as well. Really awesome skins that people actually want and sell for good money? Hell kittening yeah. Plus crafting supplies and the like, definitely a good idea. All events need this, honestly.
Again, AWESOME JOB ANET ON THIS EVENT!
Now if they would just fix sPvP and make other events just as fun as this.. This game would be well on it’s way to recovery.
Bumping so others can see. It’s getting drowned pretty fast.
Tired of getting stuck and snared by the plants? Use your torch to burn them. Doesn’t work on the flytraps but everything else is fair game.
You’re welcome <3
The skins are unique, look pretty cool and will not be around after the event is over.
And 1g for a level 80 character (which most people have) really is anything to earn.
Best event ever.
Awesome job. I would love to see this event or a variation of it this event in the near future.
If the matchmaking goes off Rank, it needs to be separated between classes/skill level. I say classes because Johnny Pro may be an expert with Ranger but suck kitten at Guardian; plus I would rather see where my personal skill level is with each profession I play with in pvp.
If it doesn’t, we need to be able to see our personal skill rank. My PvP rank will probably be slightly above average but no where near the “pro” level. I only have a 58% hotjoin win record, and my tPvP win record is less than 50% iirc because I never run with premades and before this “matchmaking system” I faced A LOT of premades after launch. Tournaments have just seemed like a waste of time ever since.
I probably won’t even que for tournies until they actually do something that makes a noticeable difference and attracts a larger player base. Right now if I’m not farming dragons or in WvW, I’ll most likely just play 8v8 zergfests to practice surviving 1v2’s.

That’s what WvW is for.
They tried to do this in Beta and it ended in way over the top builds that should only exist in a WvW setting with a vast amount of players to balance things out and leave room for strategy instead of just which team has the best build/numbers/biggest kitten.
WvW requires some strategy and teamwork. sPvP is different, although still requiring teamwork and build knowledge in tournies, and is that way for a reason.
Glamour - The trait setup is your standard 20/0/0/20/30 in PvE and WvW but my gear is different from what people normally run with this build. In sPvP I run my very own variation of this glamour build (and it is effective team support as well) with a setup of 0/0/20/20/30.
I run these two builds because I prefer to be the most unique as possible and make it work. A lot of Mesmers want to run the fotm shattercat build but I love conditions and these two builds pile them on.
Anyway @Chesire: I thought chaos armors gained from leaping through combofields wouldn’tapply protection when gained, this is a great improvement in survivability; I’m revolving around others conditions too, not only confusion because if i wouldn’t cover it with something else it would be cleansed instantly. The loss in survivability would come from the loss of toughness on runes, and maybe on weapons too… Still need to test if i can keep myself alive.
The combo field Chaos Armor doesn’t provide protection when triggered, but it still has the chance to when you’re hit. So if you use the Staff 4 for the initial protection and are being hit, then use combo finishers to keep chaos armor up that’s more time for it to keep stacking with itself and it really does mitigate quite a bit of damage. This is especially true for attackers that are spamming that auto or any other attack for that matter. Not to mention the confusion they are placing on themselves. It has proven in both sPvP and WvW to be highly effective in keeping me alive as well as dealing damage to enemies.
Ok so here’s the thing. You want duration but you also want damage. You want a good balance that doesn’t take away from your survivability. For example:
My WvW build has a little above 23k health and a little above 2k toughness but being a glamour build I have found numerous ways to keep up Chaos Armor (which offers protection) for long periods of time (around 10+ seconds on Chaos Armor if need be) so my survivability is as good as it needs to be for those zergs. That being said, with food and sigils, my Condi damage peaks at just over 1.8k (over 2k with might stacks) and my Confusion duration is at 93% with everything else being around 60% or so.
That being said, I consider this a really balanced build that has really great confusion damage output (I’ve seen hit for over 3k per tick and practically instantly melted the person) BUT the other conditions also pack a really good punch.
The point is, you don’t want to solely rely on confusion damage in your confusion build, as odd as that sounds. Bottom line, you’re still a condition build and you can’t apply your other conditions if you’re dead. Bulk up your confusion damage/duration, but don’t sacrifice other areas to do so as confusion is easily countered; especially in WvW.
I’m curious why new things like this are implemented WITHOUT the option to turn it off as a standard idea. It really just boggles the mind; more options are almost always better!
Also, speaking of nameplates and such, could you guys please look at the text issues with small interfaces? Reading stuff has really been an issues (especially on the TP) since Beta. It isn’t a HUGE issue but it does hurt the eyes sometimes.
I just made a post about this earlier today specifically targetting WvW. It got not responses and was booted to page 2.
/facepalm
Any chance we could get these directly put into our inventory or at least have them directly put into there with auto-loot enabled?
With the culling gone, WvW is way more fun but with the additional entities on the screen and the chaos that ensues, sometimes it’s really hard to see the loot bags drop and really easy to miss the “Use” option that flashes up; this is especially true if you’re moving and dodging and people you tagged are being finished left and right. You have to stop whatever you were doing and run back the way you just came to loot.
Just make it appear in the inventory with either the little brown bag like the crafting bags OR give them a special little skin to make them stand out to the player.
Interesting setup.
I’ve since changed my sPvP setup to 0/0/20/20/30 for my glamour build, and still use 20/0/0/20/30 for WvW/PvE however I don’t run with the standard Rabid armor that everyone else seems to use.
I like unique builds though. My only gripe with yours is that you don’t have Phantasmal Fury and instead have that crappy Desperate Decoy trait. That trait fails far too often in my experience. PF would give your Warden some bleed damage, allow you to use him both for defense and offense (he stacks bleeds faster than iDuelist iirc) and dropping him in the middle of a zerg would do wonders. It’s just a better option imo since I’m assuming you have a decent amount of crit chance.
@alexperris
Sceptor/Torch is what I use to stack confusion with my build, especially since Confusing Images got buffed. I used Torch with Sword in sPvP though and it’s honestly more defensive than offensive. You use 2 for obvious uses, use iLeap to gain Chaos Armor from your Combo Fields to maintain it as long as possible and can use Torch 4 for the same purpose or use it defensively to heal or try and escape. The iMage has a really slow attack speed but his confusion stacks do hurt a little bit (or a lot if you stack with him). But I would only use this combo if you need defense, not offense. Scepter is much better at stacking confusion now and you can still use Torch 4 to gain Chaos Armor.
You know you’ve played too much Mesmer when you grab a flaming stick and tell people you’re invisible..
heh im going all over to help our class out…. stop making videos.. all you will do is get us nerfed. the devs cant play our class as well as the players can.. and they will not nerf us without some kind of proof. stop giving it to them .. “look at me kill 4 guys bro” no. stop it. it will only make things worse.
if that logic is true, then we need to make video of really bad gameplay.
Look at me bro, I get killed all the time.
I am sure Anet will buff us up
I like this idea, I’ll get right on it.
Maybe I should do it. I’ve actually gotten very good at being at the wrong place at exactly the wrong times tonight in sPvP. Zergs all day, er’r day. Win a 2v1? Pft! s’Cool, the other 6 teammates can finish me off!
All the drawbacks of GS being stated, the Scepter buff is actually pretty nice and does add some damage to already beefy Confusion glamour builds and I can’t see it taking away from Condition builds in general.
The only drawback is not having the defensive invul from Sword 2 if you use Scepter. The block is meh in comparison, but it gives us Condition spec’s another offensive option. I’ve yet to test it out in WvW but in sPvP it’s pretty spot on.
Now if they would just make the GS beam act in the same manner by making the “streams” wider, it wouldn’t be too bad.
How is the damage on shatters now? Was it nerfed or not?
Well I use Null Field also because I run glamour build (which I may change, not sure yet) so it’s the best of both worlds. Honestly I’m just trying to find a third utility to put in that slot and haven’t decided on much of anything yet.
And thank you! I look forward to the video
My Confusion build on Mesmer was working just great. I’ll run a few pvp matches and post my findings to see if it has changed, however seeing as how Anet has commented and said that no changes have been made I highly doubt I’ll find anything new.
And Shay: LMAO! <3 you now
Well played. I don’t see that happening in any of the 8v8 zerg fest rooms but at least you know how to play your Mesmer.
I look forward to seeing other 2v1’s, specifically against an Engi and Necro as that combo is the hardest to beat for me.
This has inspired me to try the iDefender in my build as well for sPvP. I’ve been using Arcane Thievery but I may change it up a bit.
Yeah rather stupid imo. The skill is great other than that though. Now we just need to have iMage increase his attack speed and the Torch will be amazing.
Pretty sure the bounces from yourself and clones will bounce to you every time if you’re within range, unless Johnny McCool comes swooping in of course.
I wish Scepter spawned a clone on the 2nd and 3rd attack, would be make it a much better weapon.
Anyway, I use it in WvW and PvE with my glamour build but in sPvP I use the same build but use sword mainhand instead. Scepter isn’t a weapon I would take to a small skirmish. Just doesn’t have the sustained damage or utility they other weapons have.
I’ve tested several times and had guildmates do the same but haven’t seen the buff icon. Still, that doesn’t mean it isn’t occuring as I very well could have looked over it. I’ll check again when I get hole from work in the morning. Also, as said above if you have to start prestige while inside the bubble before it works, that is indeed a bug.
So I know they tweaked Torch 4 not long ago, but nevertheless I was playing around with it in my glamour build and noticed something.. Null Field, Chaos Storm and Time Warp can all be combined with Torch 4 for an AE Chaos Armor (blast finisher) and all of these including Feedback can be used with Staff 2 and Sword 3 for Chaos Armor (leap finisher). However Feedback doesn’t combine with Torch 4 for a blast finisher; my question is why?
Has it always been this way? If so, why? Is it a bug? If so, can we get it fixed?
Thoughts?
This is the exact build I’ve been playing with for the past week now. Bahaha. Shame to see it posted before I put it up because I was really wanting to do something more unique, but oh well. Only difference I think is that you use Rabid stuff and I’m using Rampager because it matches my spvp load out the best. But I’m still tweaking with it.
Here’s how I play it atm. For small skirmishes use Sword+Torch. This let’s you use #3 for another Chaos Armor proc and centers your build around keeping chaos armor up near perma. Switch out Scepter keep/tower defense/assault so that you have a ranged option to back up Staff. The only drawback I hate about this build is that if anyone is running away, you won’t kill them and if you’re being chased you’ll likely get caught.
Underwater fights I put an Earth sigil on the trident, pop out clones/phantasms and 1 to win. With my precision rate I can easily keep 20-25 stacks of bleeding on an enemy solo. I’ve noticed that with my build you could also use Sword+Pistol instead of Scepter+Torch, or even Scepter+Pistol.
Also, I prefer Time Warp over any other elite right now. It has more uses and doesn’t need changing between spvp, wvw or dungeons unlike the other elites we have.
Engi’s must have a real hard on when watching Thieves. I think every skill they have on their bar is a gap closer in some way. Because near perma-stealth and high burst just isn’t enough.
Once they add dueling (if they do, rather) those 5v5’s will die out. They need to reduce the cap to 6v6 at the very least for ALL servers. Then it would be much better. And yes, those extra four players on the map do make a difference because of the size of the maps.
Need to fix the Ranger underwater downed skills as well. Raid on Capricorn is annoying enough without having to fight an immortal Ranger underwater.
If you’re unfamiliar with it due to hating underwater combat on this map, it’s a bug that lets their pet continue to heal them even after you kill it or after they swap pets. Interrupts (dazes/stuns/etc) don’t stop the pet from completely healing the Ranger when he’s downed. Unless you have a couple glass cannon builds on him you won’t kill him.
Is it game breaking? No, I just stay out of the water when the enemy team has a Ranger down there. However, it is very annoying and makes this already hated map even more of an annoyance to play on. I’m sure it affects WvW also, but in less of a degree.
Just throwing another bug out there.
K so, this thread was buried when I posted here earlier, but I’m going to add my post here as well. Sorry for the double.
So, all of my guild mates that are PvEing are saying they have no latency issues, while I will sometimes see it brought up in sPvP map chat. On occasion, someone could be doing badly and blame lag sure but the amount of complaints I’m seeing from others is starting to pile up.
I, myself, have been kicked to character select from 5 sPvP matches so far today. Two just recently within the same 30 minute time frame. This makes it nearly impossible to test builds or even earn exp. First thought was maybe it’s just peak server time (five hours ago) so I take a break and go do other things. Come back and get the same issues. In PvE I did a story quest and a couple hearts with no issues; during my break I even watched a couple tv shows online and a few videos on youtube—other than a couple slow load times that lasted maybe 5-10 seconds before picking back up, nothing seemed to be bogged down. Now with this in mind I want to blame the servers HOWEVER I’m getting roflstomped by other players who don’t seem to be lagging at all seeing as how I go from full hp to downed by the time I recover from the spikes.
So, I’m just curious to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if not what could possibly be causing me to get kicked out of the game so frequently?
Note that I’m not downloading in the background, I’m not loading any movies/videos/etc. or doing anything differently that I did yesterday when I had zero issues.

I was using GSword but it seems that iZerker has just been nerfed so I may switch to Staff.
I don’t think izerker was nerfed, it’s just bugged like all the other illusions in WvW atm.
To the OP, my suggestion is to carry a focus and use the Pistol as your off-hand in WvW if you’re intent on carrying a sword main-hand. Reasons being:
Torch is really only good for escaping or mitigating damage via stealth. You won’t really need this in WvW zergs as you’ll have numbers and clones which will do just fine at confusing enemies and making you a less likely target. The iMage on Torch is subpar as well, from what I’ve seen especially if you’re going for melee/power damage.
Pistol gives you a ranged option when using the sword. It gives a daze/stun to interrupt stomps on teammates and the iDuelist can deliver damage at range which will give him the best life expectancy of any other Phantasm, especially in WvW.
The Focus OH is mainly just for having a Swiftness source at hand for when you’re running across the map and you’ll be thankful for it. Pull it out, cast Temporal Curtain, equip your pistol and carry on. It can also be used to pull enemies off keep walls and for AE damage with the iWarden which is something we lack.
I personally would rather run GS+ Staff for WvW, simply because it gives great clone generation as well as AE damage and defensive/supportive abilities so they work well together even if you lack condition damage.
Hope this helps.
What do you guys think about it versus bunkerish type builds in sPvP?
I’ve been playing with the idea of having it in my build and have played a lot of matches with it (though non recorded as of yet) but haven’t noticed any real change in gameplay. I’m running a shatter build, nothing fancy, just 20/20/0/0/30—but I can’t decide on if I want Rending Shatters or this. My shatters already hit pretty hard (upwards of 2k per clone on glass cannons, even did an 8k shatter once) so I figured this would add in some support against bunkers moreso than RS would.
Thoughts?
Yeah I kinda got pwnt last night because of this bug.
Chased an ele into the water, he did his AoE to kill my clones/illusions and since I had swapped to spear it was on CD. So it was auto attack time, except I missed every single attack allowing him to completely heal and go full throttle on me. Had no idea it was bugged, just figured he was haxing since a lot of my skills just missed entirely.
Spirit plays entirely differently to any other map. Its basically a whole new game type. They obviously saw people wanted more game types and this was the answer. And it was a very good answer. This map is hardly conquest at all. Gone are the two bunkers on points and roam between. There are alot more fights and its way more fun. It has instantly made new builds like the CC hammer warrior extremely viable. When it would be useless outside of this map.
Edit: Although they need to fix rtl with orbs ofc
Actually it kinda sucks in tournament play. With mist form, RTL and Infiltrator arrow all allowing you to carry the orb, you also get grief from Guardians dominating the very small pathways with bubbles and wards.
This is what all the hardcore tournie fans are saying.
I personally also really hate the map due to it’s size. I really don’y like the mechanics either, but it can be fun sometimes. This all based on sPvP though. I’ve only played a few solo tournies and it wasn’t much fun either due to premades dominating those.
I sincerely just hate the map in general. In tPvP it promotes bunkers running the orb, as stated countless times above; in sPvP it promotes zerging because the map is so kitten small AND almost everyone wants to focus on the orb so the battle takes place right the in the middle 90% of the time.
I love the design of the map, but I hate the mechanics that come with it. Despise, loathe, detest, abhor, abominate, execrate, very much dislike this new map. And this is after coming off a break since December—I can only imagine how a new player would feel about it.
Could be an improvement to make treb harder to defend.
Does Mesmer portal repair still work? If it does, then I could care less about other changes. My ele doesn’t usually Treb anyway. That single mechanic kinda ruins that map for me.
1. Look at the banners at the spawn.
2. Look at spawn cap color when you cap it.
3. Attack the red names plates, not the green ones.
4. Play an FPS for a couple hours.
5. If you for some reason go back to spawn without dying in Hot Join guess what? Your color probably changed due to autobalance. Repeat step(s) 1 (through 5 if need be).
There are TWO colors in PvP and more than one way to tell what color you are. It isn’t Rocket Surgery to try and figure out what color you and your team is. Quit making it complicated.
Apologies, this feature wasn’t suppose to go out in today’s patch. This was intended to come out with the next patch along with a UI drop down to change how you want team colors to work. The new default setting is WvW style coloring (enemy only has team colors), but you will also be able to make everyone, or nobody team-colored. There will also be UI changes to reinforce what team you’re currently on, so hold tight, apologies again!
Please tell them NOT to hotfix it though. We can tolerate the minor confusion until the patch comes with a UI update.
Please leave it alone for now. >_<
At least no one can say he’s just spamming Crossfire.
You’re a brave one, and for this I support you.
I personally stopped playing Ranger after the Nov patch and just hating it altogether in WvW. Always keep an eye on my Ranger brethren though.
I say keep experimenting.
The scoring system, as stated in many many threads, is very zerg friendly and needs changed. I think showing number of Cap Points lost would be a nice touch but wouldn’t really change anything.
I’ve been saying for ages (in-game at least) that player kills should be reduced to only awarding one point each if not zero. I don’t think taking points away for points lost is good idea though, it would just drag games out longer with no real change in game-play.
On a side note, winners already get a winning bonus as well as a bonus for Volunteering to change sides for autobalance, but I never noticed how much you got for that.
It’s a good idea/intention behind it but too conplicated for new players to pick up within a game or two. You’d be constantly explaining it.
To take this even further, it’s an unecessary system if Anet would just fix scoring in a way that promoted defending points in the first place instead of promoting the current zergfest we get even in random 5v5’s. Hell, half the time people aren’t event reading team chat to begin with.
I’ve been in plenty of random 5v5’s where my entire team just followed me around the map even after I begged them to either defend or go cap anther point. Completely idiotic. PUGs will be PUGs regardless as long as the scoring system is what it is. No player made system will change this, I think.
This kinda boils down to the point/award system being crap. I hate it, personally, but I don’t see a way around it and I honestly believe if the point ssytem wasn’t garbage it wouldn’t be as big of a deal.
