Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)
I want it to look like this. The flower, not the panties. Well either is fine I guess.
WTF Over – why you no NSFW!!!!!
Lol – GW2 soft porn. J/K.
Yah, I agree that the design choice for Seed of Life is rather… odd. Maybe they wanted to go with something otherworldly to fit with the celestial theme, but even then it should have just been a really fancy looking flower, not a weird pulsing tumor thing.
The image is probably an actual representation on how the developers view or feel about the Ranger/Druid.
A otherworldly tumor
What I use.
Same gear as KayCee basically but w/ different runes for.
3 Blocks/Immunities – Stability – 25 Stacks might – 2 reflects – minus 40% condi duration.
3400 Power/Armor w/ 65% Crit and 26.5k HP.
Lacks Swiftness (but whatever) and has low Ferocity (kinda hurts).
You can make up the lack of ferocity if you really wanted it via weapon / sigil / utility primer.
Would love to try this but not sure if it would work with my celestial armor Exotic would be a no brainer to get I guess.
EDIT: You haven’t released any current videos?
The comments about long bow and reflect is actually true. Sad actually when you take out a primary or core weapon from a class and make it somewhat useless. This is also true in the current WvW format of play. Those classes mentioned will just hunker down and reflect the hell out of your rapid fire.
It used to be one of the core mechanics of Guardians in they had a few ways to reflect. Now, well, seems all the classes are starting to blend with the exception of the Ranger who is standing outside looking in. Wanting to play so very badly but the last one picked for the team
Bunker Druid in sPvP? I must not see them but then again it could just be me…and I’ve personally not found anything reasonable so just go back to pew pew / stronghold and let it rip.
Druid almost by default is a bunker. You’re not recognizing what the other players are doing, but they’re almost certainly running a bunker, which are most of the druid meta builds. Also note that LB is actually a weapon a lot of druids are running without using a glass build, so you may just be mistaking what they are doing.
Probably correct. I’ve actually stopped playing the sPvP side of things and figured I’d try again if/when balance comes out.
To the poster who noted why didn’t the Guardian get the Druid like traits – have to say that was what I originally thought the class was. Support oriented compared to the Warrior who was DPS. Yoke was on me.
Bunker Druid in sPvP? I must not see them but then again it could just be me…and I’ve personally not found anything reasonable so just go back to pew pew / stronghold and let it rip.
Maybe some work around celestial force, etc. The whole Druid shifting is a bit wonky along with their support. Basically Arena Net has to come to terms with balancing a game around PvE and PvP. It isn’t easy I’m sure but honestly the game did not appear to be designed with healing/supporting classes in mind. Now they introduced raiding and BAM, we have healing and tanking somewhat thrown together and balance issues are abound.
WvW is a train wreck with regards to certain classes, Druid not being one of them. CC is so bad that I’m sure we’d all be wise to buy stock in the companies whom manufacture keyboards, mice, and monitors. Yes, it is that bad that you want to break something. 9 out of 10 times it is the keyboard with the remaining 1 being a toss up between throwing the mouse against the wall or taking out a .45 and empting the clip center mass of the monitor.
If your primary focus is PvE – then it doesn’t matter what they do. Any class can work around the limitations caused by poor design, bugs, or wonky play style. Spvp on the other hand isn’t so easy and it is clear some classes are just better. So much that our grandmothers can roll the class, enter a game, and get instant legendary status. I refuse to play my Guardian just due to the Dragon Hunter and I’m sure in the hell not rolling a Revenant.
That leaves me with the Ranger and Druid until we get information as to what is changing. I’ve played since head start, same server, and only really play WvW. Server is stuck at the middle tier regardless of how well the server plays. Hit the clock cap and it is what it is. Not changing servers, no need. Just fix the game or create a punch list and work through it.
No competition is why we are in this mess. Once summer gale comes around maybe Camelot Unchained will put some pressure. Maybe it will be late and we’ll do this dance some more. Good news is that there is no subscription so we can drop anytime and not lose anything. One thing is for sure, I’ve spent less time in the game since HoT launch with several of my friends and/or family not picking it up at all.
Ball is in Arena Net’s court – just have to wait it out…
Well, it’s fixed now.
Anything to do with a Ranger usually gets fixed right away. The developers don’t want them having anything nice. Bug or intended.
As if no other class is abusing bugs and/or stupid match making or MMR abuse.
Worst sPvP game hands down. Arena Net should be ashamed they let something so awful out.
I was thinking of Playing Glyph of Unity… But there’s no other stability skill we could use. Enlargement is still bugged and kicks us out of CAF (if I’m correct).
Is that what does it?
I played a few games over the weekend and couldn’t figure out how I would engage CAF only to have it nuke me back to non CAF. Unless there is something other classes can do to steal or disable it, it happened to me on several occasions and I have no idea why.
Rabid plus accessory stats to meet your comfort requirements. I’ve used celestial, healing, and also condition, healing, and toughness. I’ve since switched to ascended celestial across the board and use accessories as needed.
Just depends on the build and who you run with.
Question – what about Rune of the Afflicted? Maybe that isn’t in sPvP yet but that is a rune I was looking at while modifying this for WvW. I switched to Ascended Celestial gear but kept the toughness, healing, and condition damage accessories. Outside of weapons – still looking to swap out to axe and torch it has a even balance of 870 condition damage and healing. Seems a pretty good balance for duo / roaming.
I’m just not sure how AF will generate without a staff. Right now I’m sporting trapper runes but need to swap out. At least that is what I’m doing at the moment. Otherwise it is full clerics and only buffing / healing.
Hmm…interesting. At first I was thinking it was double melee. I see Shortbow and am incorrect. I bet it excels on the traditional maps. Stronghold though – maybe a few places.
Just wish SB had the same range as LB Worst change ever.
.
Currently, I don’t even invest in Power, Precision or Ferocity anymore. I would never trade my +1525 healing +50% heal efficiency and extra survivability for +150 dmg per staff hitI also find that true with P, P, and F. Although if solo I’d probably sport those stats.
BTW – how in the heck are you managing 1500+ healing power and heal efficiency?
With a full ascended nomad/minstrel mix, healing infusions, 10 Natural Mender stacks, Superior Sigil of Transference, Superior Runes of the Monk, Delicious Rice Balls and Furious Tuning Crystals.
Nice setup, and expensive. I actually saw a fellow player on Ebay rocking a minstrel set. I’ve not seen anyone with such staying power before. I’m sure he was a great player but there was no toughing him at all.
Thanks btw.

What server are you playing WvW on? And, have you gone out recently, post HoT, and played at all? Reason why I’m asking is because just before HoT and since there is a lot of CC going on and it is a bit excessive in my mind. Front line commanders and those that support need stability and the clearing of conditions. Druid can do this and also play the CC role. The question to some degree is:
How do you play?
Solo, duo, or group?
What is your comfort level?
When I personally hear back line then I’m going long bow and zerker gear to burn down the target I’m assisting. Druid will still allow LB play and a bit of support but it really comes down to your comfort level. If I’m running Staff / LB then you need Primal Echoes for the soft CC. I also like Celestial Shadow for the stealth. Allows a bit of quick reposition if needed.
I’ve run clerics, zerk, and rabid. Main thing again is your comfort which helps determine gear and accessories. Back line is going to require range which means LB. Otherwise you can check out the WvW bleed build that is running SB. It is pretty fun.
What is the Druid build used in Stronghold PvP, the one that really keeps doorbreakers alive throughout the run?
Might be the Cleric MoC druid.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJAWRnUqAVsilsCWsActgl/Azp397CeLvuMQAA+s+WvrlMtzA-TZxHwAILDEa/BAPBABXAgAHCAASomething like this might work.
Practically useless in small-scale fights, but is a real game changer at teamfights or keeping NPCs alive.
Stronghold I’ll run something similar to this or old school power/pew pew pew builds. Clerics is nice, I really enjoy it along with staff, warhorn, and sword. However, I’m finding solo queues it just doesn’t work due to your team.
Maybe solo queue issue or just back luck, but I do enjoy clerics. Not sure if it will work in the Ruby and beyond range, but everything else so far it is doing ok. I don’t use the leech sigil. I’ve tried the runes you used Tragic along with the Druid ones.
Primal echo’s for cc is also nice. I’ve tried a double staff with mixed results.
’Twas the day before Christmas,
and all through the building,
not a single dev was working,
and for Ranger no (s)hits were given.
For the ones reading forums,
to those that still care,
keep posting out of boredom,
’cause no one at ArenaNet is there.
lol…well played sir.
As much as I love the Druid, I think druid traits are nice but they are kind of useless unless you gear for it, and even then only in raids or fractals. Compare this to every single class in the game.
For an extreme case, look at reapr/necro. Shroud not only gives the necro new skills, but it gives the player another hp bar as well. In my opinion Astral Force should do the same. In the case of the Tempest, every overload gives a different effect and can also save the Tempest and can do a good amount of dmg.
Druid Astral Force is just for healing, and kind of affective if you set your traits for it, but most of other mechanics do this as well for their class.
My suggestion is to give Astral Form some amount of attack or condi stun break. Some thing besides healing, that every druid can enjoy. Your opinion?
p.s
sorry for bad englishCelestial Avatar has more use than simply spamming heal.
Setting aside the healing, you have an AOE daze, a blast finisher, and an AOE cripple/imob, Condition cure, and a water field. Setting your traits offensively, you also get a ranged imob, Stealth, and possibly the best condition clear in the game. It also reverses the effect of any glyphs you have equipped.
Now what could one possibly do with all those toys?
It is an interesting point. So good it warrants me thinking of a way to build a troll build for WvW. CC and throw a few heals here and there, and let others kill Has to be runes and sigils that would support such a build along with the Druid trait line. Maybe have the pet do some DPS also…
But to the OP, I do find Druid and AF to be a bit wonky. I’m not sure if it is switching forms or how fast or steady one generates it. I find in WvW things are going on so fast, especially with CC running amuck and red circles of death, it doesn’t work for me.

No offense man, but nobody cares. Unless you’re trying to come here and give tips to people, your post just looks like bragging.
You may just ask instead of be a kitten.
The other guy asked for the build and OP posted, try to ask how is the gameplay and he may answer.I don’t need tips and don’t want to use his build. I’m just saying that if he wanted to help people instead of bragging he could have posted his build and stuff “he has learned” from his journey through leagues in his original post. Fairly certain this person has also made other threads about making it to ruby and then diamond as well.
Edit: the other threads were made by others.
Well, nice you at least made the edits for correction I think in one replay the OP gave a bit of advise. Also does it matter if they bragged a bit? It isn’t exactly a walk in the park getting there and it is nice to see it can be done – we both know the forums can be toxic…
Not bragging since the system is so easily exploited (I did it legit as solo/duo though), but figured I would share. I have premade at times but I think I ended up losing pips from it.
Good work Norrath. Then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less. You are a excellent player having run around a few times with you on Ebay
Bugged? Seriously?
Personally waiting for Camelot Unchained. DaOC is what started the whole WvW meta of play. Hope they can pull it off. In either case, if both do well maybe it will get the devs/company to pay more attention to WvW.
With regards to points per kill, is there a cap or time limit based on the player killed?
Probably not a huge deal but how will this factor in to server, wall clock coverage, and other population issues? I seem to recall DaOC having to implement realm points based on player time between deaths or something along those lines.
Maybe not a issue, figured I’d throw it out there though for discussion.
Build is fun, I’ll say but I’m not a huge fan of the SB Ironically enough I have been toying with the build to see if I can make a CC druid. I changed the armor to celestial (that is what I have for ascended) with apothecary accessories. Since I’m usually solo or duo I wanted some condition damage with healing mixed in, and striving for 3000 armor (I ended up with 2900).
Staff with sigil of hydromancy and chilling, axe with cleansing and intelligence. Or at least that is what I was thinking. Then just tweak the druid line a bit with primal echoes. Ancient seeds is already there. Assumed swapping weapons and seeds would allow some constant cc regardless of stability or not.
May not work because stats are not distributed enough with 670 condition vs 1140 healing. But would like a CC/Support build – I don’t care about killing anyone. I’m a lover, not a fighter so would rather they just get bored and leave me J/k.
Nice build though.
Funny thing about damage meters is look at the history of other MMO’s that had API’s built in to support them. It actually caused more issues around class balance because Class A was top one patch, then Class B was on top the next patch, and Class C felt left out because it was the top several patches previously and now at the bottom…oh, and Class F, not to be left out, was adjusted down or nerfed because, well, its class defining ability made it invulnerable to damage and no one else had that…
The best thing going for GW2 is no inspection or damage meter. The golems or targets give guidelines. It works. And regardless of what side of the fence you are on it is true that dead players do no DPS. And death can come from player ignorance, network, and all around bad luck.
Are we really now arguing about which class can open world easiest… maybe I should just stop coming to forums…
No Jasper, this isn’kitten It was just another GW2 troll posting about how bad he felt the Ranger was doing with regards to DPS. He has since been educated, well, at least provided various discussion points on his/her points of ignorance; and has not since posted.
Even if he/she posted back they would ignore the posts of enlightenment and continue to post biased opinions on how bad the class is. Now, those of us whom continue to play said Ranger know better. Such as those who post they are in Ruby or higher status in sPvP or who continue to down bosses in said Raid content.
No, the Ranger is not dead. Far from it.
We all know, on the other hand, that there is need of balance and tweaks. Nothing knew or unique to GW2. And we also know it won’t happen until after the first of the year. Why? Well, because this time of year, being holidays and what not, people take vacation or companies close down for a bit and clear out employees vacation. Save on power, save a few bucks on the vacation money that is mandatory in the US to set aside, etc.
I mean heck, they probably busted their kitten regardless of how kitten we feel over the druid, they do need a break. Heck, I am drinking a bottle of Twomey wine on their behalf now Couldn’t be happier and I’d suggest those of you of age do the same
Here is a toast to the extras!
W2B better Friends xD
Lol. Made me giggle. Not nice though (just kidding )
You guys/gals find that you are facing the standard pre-made and group composition now and more difficult to win? Like hitting a wall because you are not joining the easy mode classes?
I find using low yield nuclear weapons work. Other than that, wait until the balance patch hits and hope they get addressed then. New class, of course it is going to be OP and the favorite.
Then again, several good suggestions here but my personal choice is still the nuke.

Hi Flopy – nice video, thanks for sharing. Your Maul wrecked that player around the 1 minute 28 second mark or there about. The fight near Splend vs. the zerg. Well done. In fact, on several occasions Maul is doing a number. I’ve never really used the GS much on my Ranger, pity.
Zero healing and condition damage yet you are making the Druid work fine. That is rather interesting to me. I know from my playing I’m trying to balance condition and healing for WvW but here you show zero is working just as well with good results.
Good job.
Well, according to another forum member, Rangers are dead and useless in any high level content due to their lack luster DPS… /boggle
Here is the double melee pre-HoT build I was using for sPvP. Celestial amulet and Krait runes. Axe, dagger, sword, torch. High sustain and was able to hold points forever.
It isn’t my build, was posted on the forums a while back but I enjoy it. Sadly, it isn’t as great post HoT I’ve been trying to fit in the Druid line with no success. So this is a good thread as I hope to find a similar build using the Druid trait line – we’ll see.
Edit: Build Link: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnY8fnEqAtsgVsA+CCUtghMhqT2A4A+aIVnYPxTgGfANA-TZRHABBcEAA4kAEy+DHVGI4HAAA
People will probably want to know if this is sole for PvE and Raids or if it also includes WvW. And if WvW the amount of play time spent – guess.
Personally I ended up just crafting Celestial Ascended armor. I went with Rabid exotic for my condition/trapper build. Shaman exotic for condition/traps and Druid build. Setting up a Cleric exotic to test a few things out.
Celestial seems to balance out condition and healing stats for my Druid. I wanted Minstrel but this seems to be what I ended up with in the end. But note my play is only for WvW. As I go through HoT map and story complete I’ve not found any restrictions by using my Celestial armor set.
I think those that push for min/max or extreme setups will provide more detail with crafting information.
Not to muddy the thread more, but is it your idea OP to have people read, and say yes/no support? Or, are you asking for feedback, discussion, then rolling responses up?
I don’t see anything Swagger is doing as wrong by discussing some of your finer points. Not everyone is going to know, or remember, the various threads or sub threads.
Ok, thanks.
From my perspective, this thread was given birth because people believe Ranger is inferior to other classes. When it comes to raids – it’s exactly as you say.
Unlike former Dungeon Farming meta where nothing but time consumed mattered (that’s why everybody went for DPS) – raids are once per week. Which in comparison is not about DPS at all, if you manage the boss within his enrage timer.
My point is that Ranger in reality is much more important than OP tries to make him sound. It’s true that we are not top tier DPS – but that’s because we are compensated with the highest DPS support across the board.
If rangers complain about bad DPS – and are probably playing the ranger the same way as the guy in the Video – They are sincerely playing wrong and have no right to claim anything about Ranger DPS.I have been playing a raid as a Cleric tank and healer in one, as a berserker healer, as a zealot healer, and I personally found full healing spring berserker (without staff) the most efficient way to play (we had that tempest guy helping out with heals).
But at the end of the day – everything works as long as the squad organizes around it. In raids there’s no meta or what not. In Raids it’s all about what the 10 people make work, and there’s currently more than 15 ways to build around.
With ranger present in most of them.
That is what I sort of figured. Thanks.
Yeah, dreamer was great but then ANet destroyed it as part of their ranger hate campain. And just to get the people who still didn’t care that the bow was useless they decided to make the sound effect ear-splittingly painful so that everyone else in the game can hate you too.
Ignorance on my part but your last sentence made me giggle a bit.
What was the nerf? Effect/sound related?
“Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no
I said, “Dreamer, you’re nothing but a dreamer”
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no
I said “Far out, what a day, a year, a life it is”
You know, well you know you had it comin’ to you
Now there’s not a lot I can do
Dreamer, you stupid little dreamer
So now you put your head in your hands, oh no"
Supertramp…
See above for my issues with this post.
Also, i saw this video from Josh Glad, who is a very good ranger player. In this group he seems to be the tank, the healer, and condi dps.
…With all due respect …
… That can_not_ be called a very good ranger player.
He is not using Quickdraw for Bonfire (nor Serpent’s Strike for damage mitigation), he’s using spike trap for whichever reason, he’s not using Frost Spirit at all.Plus he’s using all his evades on cooldown, not strategically. If he decided to use Dagger for DPS, he must have made a horrible mistake.
He did his job even as a Ranger – is much more like it this time.
The video doesn’t really say anything about Ranger’s viability. Revenants and Warriors can do the same thing if not a lot more.
Question, since most of the thread is kitten and at least two of you are having a proper discussion. Does it really matter if all he is doing is “his job”? Serious.
We all know there are min, max, must run X, not Y, builds or have the best of everything players and/or guilds. But at the end of the day there are good, bad, better, and average players. Maybe he or she is one of those and doesn’t conform to the BiS player.
If they got the boss down, does it matter?
Bringing a ranger in a dps role will hinder killing Gorseval, do nothing for Sabetha, and possibly hinder killing Vale. The absolute best damage ranger can do is the bare minimum needed to kill the boss. Anything less is actively hurting your team.
It is an opinion because you are stating that bringing a Ranger in a dps role will hinder a raid. That is an biased opinion in which case you have zero facts to back it up.
Zero facts, except for an actual damage meter. I think you don’t understand the meaning of the word zero.
Ok fella, let us try again since you are stuck on the damage meter part. Is it provided by the development team? Let me answer for you, no. Therefore there is room for error. Did you run the damage meter, in the same environment, for each class, with the same buffs? You, yourself? No, you didn’t.
I also believe you said:
“Simply put I was capping out at just a little over 5k dps. This isn’t enough to bring it to raids by its own.”
“With frost spirit, sun spirit, and spotter ranger is just barely acceptable”
“but base ranger damage is not enough to kill the first boss with in the enrage timer”
“Don’t bring ranger outside of druid, and don’t play ranger in raids”
“I’m saying this as long time ranger main. Condi ranger basically isn’t any better either”
Those are your words, not mine. Low dps based on your sample and yours alone with an opinion that it isn’t enough. With spirits it is barely acceptable. Base ranger damage again isn’t enough to kill the first boss with enrage timer. You say a few more things then say even conditional damage based rangers are bad.
So – if I run a Zerk/Ranger I’m hurting the raid and we won’t get past the first boss. Don’t even bother trying because you, and you alone, have said it is dead and will hurt the team.
Nice one. As Zenos said above me, ignorant players…

So far I’m having the most success with Sols build. I really like the concept of Crusader with the GS but it doesn’t seem to do enough against the meta, and with the meta switching towards viper’s Heralds and classes that support them while self-sustaining, the low healthpool gets even more detrimental. It seems like the concept would have been really fun pre-HoT when things actually died though, so in February when the game gets balanced, hopefully ANet tunes some of the extreme so more builds like this can become commonplace.
I’ve tried the few condi builds and I honestly just don’t have a feel for it. Every time I play them I feel completely outclassed in the condi department by Reapers and Heralds and wishing I was either playing one of them or that I had build more supportive instead of more towards condi. But that really could just be me, I see how the builds would work really well on paper, so it could just be who’s been on my team and who I’ve been up against. Diamond Skin Tempests though, I have no idea how you condi guys aren’t ripping your hair out.
If you’re playing with an organized team, and the team can support the Druid with condi cleanse, then I can definitely see swapping out the cleanses beyond Druidic Clarity and traited glyphs for traits that enhance the capabilities of Druid more, like Moment of Clarity. That would be the most ideal, but with the way teams are running, it looks like Tempest, and Druids are competing for a slot, so seeing both classes on a team might be rare or even inefficient.
No idea, but based on the various boards and other forums seems the only viable progression sPvP classes are teams that consist of:
2 Sentinel bunker Mesmers, 2 Viper Revenants, and 1 Tempest
No API meters = this discussion is an opinion and should only be treated as such. Furthermore, no one wants meters. The boss either lives or dies based on team work. There is no carry this way. You do x damage you contribute. Plain and simple.
I was wondering if the OP was suggesting that bringing a Ranger in DPS role would hinder, reduce, or prevent a raid boss kill. I didn’t get that answer. Instead it is more about a third party meter showing that they are doing X damage compared to others.
Oh well….class envy maybe.
The damage meter is the one that was posted about on Reddit. It isn’t perfect but it is within about 5-10% of the real value. The issue isn’t about people being able to clear the first boss, who is relatively easy. What I’m saying is that it gets harder. Don’t bring ranger if you want a decent time. They simply just don’t do enough damage to warrant bringing them.
Ok, let me retract my @sshat attitude since you clarified a bit more. Yes, Raid content gets harder. Let us talk about time though and the ranger.
Just so I am not putting words into your mouth – are you saying that if you want to get further along in the content to “not” bring a ranger? Because their DPS is low and that loss increases the time to kill. Therefore putting the raid into the enrage timer window?
He wasn’t clear Friendly – but regardless, there is no inherent damage meter via the API. Scraping a window isn’t going to be exact not to mention the latency / lag.
Is the question about other classes doing more damage or that you can’t get past the first boss if your group has a ranger. In either case, not all classes are equal and many people, PUGS even, have passed the first boss with rangers pew pew’ing. I don’t understand.
Then re-roll. Just don’t come here posting nonsense when people are doing fine with rangers. Just saying, maybe it is just you?
Good thing there is no real damage meter in the game based off a API. That and that there is no inspect feature.
Boss lives or dies by team work. Nothing else matters.
Ranger isn’t dead but maybe the player behind the keyboard is asleep at the keys. Friends don’t let friends drink and raid…
