No, you’ve never done any REAL raiding. The challenge in WoW is that the boss mechanics are punishing of any mistake. So whenever one little detail goes wrong, it’s up to how the rest of the group can react to fix it. Then you know all those abilities you have that you were like “I’m never going to need these” and you didn’t put them on your bar, well part of your challenge is actually using those skills because they DO matter

Gotta disagree here. WoW, and others of their ilk is an exercise of selective button mashing for useful skills and never using trash skills ever. Every class in WoW (and others, Im looking at you LOTRO) have a plethora of completely useless skills that are rarely, if ever used. I left WoW because of the unimaginitve style of play. WoW and its brain children are the definition of mindless grinding and pigeonholing characters into roles they can never escape from.

Not every fight is just an issue of being choreographed, most of them require a decent amount of personal skill on top of it, some require absolute perfection

Sorry, I never saw that except maybe on 1 instance.

An the other guy with the military idea and everyone doing damage. Where the military differs from this game is that synergy between everyone. There’s true teamwork. They’re all doing killing, but they have specific jobs. You don’t send snipers to try to sneak into somewhere to rescue someone, and you don’t send a medic to hide in a mountain and try to kill someone important. GW2 lacks that

this i do agree with. I believe that if I spec my ELE for water, in a dungeon, he should be able to do an ok job at keeping the party alive. Same if Im speccing a tank warrior for survivability. I dont really see this yet on GW.

Throw more numbers in until it dies

Its going to be that way when anyone can map shout about The Shatterer or Jormag’s claw. It would be exactly the same if the Lich King or Ragnaros was just wandering about for anyone on the entire server to jump on. I dont see alot of folks saying this about Her Royal Vileness, High Priestess of Dwayna.

About being water elementalist spec for healing, i get your meaning but i don’t agree with this, being able to heal an injured to full is not by a medic, is by a doctor, and a doctor is someone you will not bring to battlefield so nope, there are no pure healer in GW2, it is the frontline warzone, everyone is soldier and all about killing. Non combatant do not exist.

And what i said an injured player have to do on his side is using his heal skill, dodge, CC, movement away, these are the meaning of “taking cover”, if a player is smart enough, he can stay alive, back off, receiving heals from you and back on line. This happens a lot with my guardian, shout heal warrior and elementalist, i never find my heal is useless, instead, a good and considerating party will have players spec into a bit support and shared the hp management. The existing healing power is weak but still it doesn’t stop me from playing a real healer role, my ele will switch to water, giving regen and healing support to my team.

Why is it everyone have to contribute into doing damage is foul?

Please look at a real military squad, they do have different roles but you will never find a role that is not able to deal damage, never… pointman, gunner, medic, squad leader, sniper, marksman everyone is able to kill, and not to mention everyone learned a bit of first aid but of course for the better injured treatment is by medic.

See? Everyone in a squad who is actually within combat perimeter got to fight, and no any role in squad will silly standing still absorb bullets for teammates, gunner is providing suppressing fire to draw attention and pin down enemies (aggro, CC and stay alive), while flanking team hit from the side (anyone who is not being targeted), soldier get injured will take cover, sometimes his buddy will help a bit first aid while waiting for the medic to roll in (a player got to dodge, self heal staying alive until more heal from teammates), thats the teamwork of GW2, everyone support each other while also contribute into doing damage, and thats exactly the reason we enjoy GW2.

What i see is GW2 is actually being an MMO with more modern combat tactics compare to trinity system.

So please Trinity, No.

Turkey needs to come back!!!

Waiter: Sir, this is a japanese restaurant, our Christmas special is sushi, we don’t have turkey.

Customer: No, you claim this is a Christmas special so it has to be turkey!

Waiter: Didn’t you read our manual before coming in for dinner?

Customer: Yes, but i think without turkey you would be capable of making it work. Clearly my hope was misplaced. So I need turkey now.

What is warrior good at ? Absolutely nothing

Crossaber.8934

What warrior is good at? Nothing…. if you are able to do nothing.

Problem is you, not warrior. Warrior is a tool, success or not is based on mostly the one who is controlling. What is the best of being a warrior? Tactics, well the tactics line for sure is very good, but what i mean is your mind, use tactics, surprise elements, read your enemy, create a blind spot for your enemy, use elemental advantage, use allies…

This is a game require teamwork, don’t expect to faceroll other player with half a brain… Warrior class mechanics is rather straight forward but with good hands and mind, warrior can be as trick as hell.

Greatsword > Bows?

ive read your tests, and am a big fan. the point was that GS does very good damage, not that it is the pinnacle of output. it seems like a few posters on the thread are of the mindset that anything that isnt our peak damage is bad damage.

GS damage is competitive, it has built in evades, on demand block, on demand stun, on demand cripple, and one of the longest gap closers/openers in the game, in addition to maul. i have a hard time reading about how bad it is or how its only good for block.

Just wondering around in ranger forum more, you will notice most ranger’s mind is flooded with 3 things: damage per hit / damage per sec / max damage range. Get use to it.

My ranger use greatsword and I do wish my warrior can use the same greatsword skill as ranger…. Ranger can produce impressive AoE damage combined with low CD traps.

New Arcing Slice buff?

Crossaber.8934

I would love to see Arcing Slice give a 2 sec quickness boon added to the existing arcing slice version only at full adrenaline. The 2 sec quickness make a good start of skill chain along with the fury buff. While it is not op as you can’t get the boon without a full adrenaline bar and if you chained with 100B, you lost the 12% power buff from berserker power, so doing less damage with faster channel, i can see it is a trade.

This added some depth into a GS warrior. If the situation is changing, he could pop a F1 and a fast 100B to make fast burst and flee while no need to risk taking 50% more damage with frenzy.

Combat roles, no trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Crossaber.8934

To Fabsm,

Totally agree with you, GW2 actually does require more skill than trinity where spec is the only thing matters. A skilled player in a brain dead party is not able to be a savior, because no single class is able to do everything on his own; while a party filled with 4+ skilled player can do the job right. On the other hand, a trinity only require 2 skilled players, a tank and a healer.

Good job telling the truth!

So much of this has been removed with GW2. The system has been reduced to a pure buttonsmasher. And what people call “skill” in GW2 is nothing more than pure timing and reflexes. Call out targets, stay in pug, synchronize combos over teamspeak and thats all. Theres nothing more to the game.

Then… what is “skill”? Who is the “skilled” player, or better, the skilled TEAMS?

I think that:
- dodging at the right time and knowing when to retreat
- using your abilities at the right moment
- coordinating with your group and doing teamwork
- focusing the right target when there is need to burst
- adapting your strategies to the group

is what a skilled TEAM has to do.

At the contrary, the unskilled team:
- whines because it is instagibbed by boss abilities (solution: tank and trinity, so i can tunnelvision heal or pew pew DPS without interruption)
- whines because their abilities have too long CDs and they can’t DPS/heal (solution: specialize roles and give more specialized abilities)
- whines because there is no structure and tactics (solution: trinity)
- whines because feels it should do much more damage and the boss have too much health (solution: specialized roles so i can pew pew more)
- whines because some bosses are too hard (solution: trinity)

but, read, the solutions are already there. Up in the previous list. I don’t think that the skill of the player should have to limit to “building a good spec”. It is part of the game, but the most important is TEAMWORK.

Combat roles, no trinity...

Crossaber.8934

To Rieselle,

Buddy, you are telling the exact idea of mine, which i made a topic months ago about the new GW2 trinity, where my post were flamed by trinity haters who don’t have ability to read. I for one who hate trinity too but i do agree every word you said here, there is actually another form of trinity in GW2 which is totally different to the traditional one, and require every party member to have a bit dps, a bit support and do it at the right time to get through hard contents.

Good job, you are telling the whole story load and clear than mine.

Cross

I’ve been cut-pasting this post a little bit, but I like it :P

If the entire party builds cooperatively (just like a trinity MMO party might choose the right members), then you can do the sort of coop tactics that you might find in a trinity MMO.

Just that the paradigms are a bit reversed:

- Many members of the party should take something that can heal allies.
= Everyone can heal, but heals are weak in this game.
= If a party member is low on health, rather than 1 Priest responsible for healing the party, the entire party should temporarily get together and heal him.

- Many members should take skills that support others in a defensive way.
= If someone is being targeted by the enemy, the other members should cast their defensive support on him whilst he kites and dodges.
= That person is thus “tanking” the enemy, by being the focus of the group’s defensive skills. (the party should still continue to throw damage at the enemy as well, of course.)

- If the player who is targeted is adequately healed and defended, then people who are not targeted can focus on damaging skills without wasting time on self-healing or dodging.
= Thus we have “DPS” role.

- Dont forget CC skills like knockdown and stun, they can also be used to save other players.

- Most heals and defense skills in this game are AOE. So even if multiple players are targeted by enemies, you can defend all of them together if the targeted players stick close to each other. The non targeted players can keep away to stay out of AOEs and stay safe whilst DPSing and using their defensive support.
——————————-

So we see that we have GW2’s own trinity of damage, support, healing. But instead of single people occupying these roles, instead what happens is that the entire party will focus these activities on one player when required.

It just requires parties to create balanced coop builds that can support the party in a variety of ways. Everyone is too used to making optimised solo builds, or builds that focus exclusively on one thing.

My Mesmer just retraited into a shatter build – Mindblade

The build is traited mainly with illusionary persona (shatter effect on me) and restorative illusion (shatter heal me), shatter also give me vigor and might.

I often start off with Mirror blade>Mind stab>iZerker switch to 1hS / pistol, Illusionary leap > swap > F1 shatter > Blurred frenzy; switch target > phantasmal duelist > magic bullet > Mirror image > F2 shatter then switch back to GS with the same loop again.

This way could make loops of AoE burst again and again. The close range is danger but the shatter heal keeps me in good shape even within groups of risens. The AoE burst provide roughly 3.5k damage each loop on my not fully geared mesmer.

Thoughts on Warrior "feel" for the Devs

in Warrior

Posted by: Crossaber.8934

Crossaber.8934

Dear Devs,
As I’m sure you’re aware there’s a fairly decent mention of warriors being “vanilla” in their build options, such as most players really only find some kind of success in PvP based off a variation of setting up HB. After becoming disillusioned with the way the warrior class plays with various other weapon setups (and even the whole HB emphasis on GS itself) I started really diving into other classes in search of that melee class that would give me the warrior “feel” I was missing on my actual warrior.

I have since fallen in love with rangers. Hear me out before the ranger camp calls me insane because yes I know there are issues with the class, and most ranged rangers would kill for the rifle.

Anyways, I started running a melee only “warrior” style build on my ranger in SPvP 5’s and free tourney’s using GS + Sword/Dagger, Trolls ungent, rampage as one elite, signet of renewal, lightning reflexes and 3rd utility of choice using a 20/0/30/20/0 build with a mix of P/V/T and Berserker gear.

I urge you to take a look at the synergy of the abilities with the sword for instance. The primary (1) chain applies a cripple, flows at a good speed, hits for a decent amount and also moves into the target a bit in order to stay on target. The 2nd ability gives both movement with creative use of turning (flip 180 to leap the direction you want, flip back 180 to leap forward again) along with an evasion and a gap closer + cripple. Ability 3 gives an evading attack along with applying poison to hinder healing from the opponent.

Again the dagger 4 provides an evading attack with another poison application and the 5 is a ranged cripple.

The GS has a nice gap closer which actually WORKS (sorry, gotta pick on you about the warrior GS 5 pathing issues here :P), a hard hitting 2 which also applies bleeds (good conal based aoe as well), a BLOCK which provides ranged protection while being available as a ranged snare like the current warrior 4 attack, and an interrupt/stun on the 5. The primary attack also provides an evade in the chain which helps mitigate damage as well.

The point being that with that specific setup it’s a very “bunker with a bite” melee build that flows together smoothly while also providing a very respectable amount of utility, passive condi removal right up there with the other classes (ele/guard etc) and really has a wonderful ceiling for improving skilled plays. Because of the mitigation, movement, sustained healing/condi removal I’ve been able to almost indefinately sustain melee combat without resetting, and actually looked for 1v3 situations while getting in kills because the damage spikes are really respectable when combined with poison application. In short I feel like a warrior that can hang with some of the other classes notable for their 1vX capabilities (d/d ele, mesmer, thieves). It’s awesome and I commend whomever designed the ranger melee setup.

  • As a bonus the longbow/shortbow can be utilized without respecc’ing a single thing for WvW scenarios (siege/defense) which is very nice to have access to.

I know it’s probably too late this far into the game to do anything about it, but if you do ever revisit the warrior class for an overhaul or tweaking I urge you to look at the beautiful setups and synergies you’ve accomplished with a few other class build options such as the melee ranger. I’m hooked and I don’t think I can go back to my warrior again after finding this build.

I hope this doesn’t offend, just trying to offer a perspective from an avid melee “warrior” enthusiast that discovered that “feel” somewhere else.

I somewhat agree with this, before Anet buff ranger greatsword, my ranger alt already running around with greatsword and traps. I like ranger greatsword chain 1 and swoop a lot and i do hope warrior GS got swap skill 1 and charge with ranger GS skill 1 and swoop, well said.

Shout heal warrior is one of the best all rounded build out there.

For your concern about using FGJ right at the fight start, if traited with lung capacity, FGJ is only a 20s shout, i don’t believe if geared right, you really need to use all 3 shout heals within the first 20sec. On the other hand, slung it off is a good choice, especially in heavy condition zone, you will automatic launch a free “shake it off” you got more than 1 condition, and yes, it is shout heal also.

For an effective shout heal build, better gear with cleric gear and that also means your toughness is a lot higher so you are more durable than in berserker gear.

my half cleric half knight geared warrior is healing 1.5k for each shout.

Hmmm, something like “soul unision”, you hit that and you merge with the pet’s spirit getting its special abilities and stats for a short time. Afterwards pet goes on cd for usual 20secs or so to rest and the other pet comes out.

This is a fun idea, a skill that transform your pet into an armor or weapon set…. interesting!

For solo, yes 100B wins

For 2+ players as a team, unless the foes really love you and decided to hug you only, without proper group immobilize, 100 blade only hit with the first 2~3 swings. I usually runs a 2 men team in Orr with my Engineer buddy. Although i got higher damage, melee ranged, and i gain the first hit, some foes are designed to ignore me and go to my buddy no matter what. If i don’t trait myself with leg specialist, my 100B hit for the first swings only. So tell me how wonderful this self roof skill is?

To tell the truth, i rather use sword and shield when i am solo than GS.

30 in Arm: I can have any 2 weapon trait between greatsword / 1H sword / rifle or i can have both longer bleed and vulnerable strike combo for any weapon choice.

Getting 30 Tactics means i am very flexible in terms of supporting. It just take you 30-40 sec to tweak around your slot from shout heal to regen banner. Shung it off is a god send trait in heavy condition situation. Combined with shout heal it is free heal with 1 condition removal. I use fear instead of On my mark too. A well timed fear saved my team from wiping in dungeon countless of time.

Berserker power : free 10% boost with full adrenaline

Blade mastery: 10% crit rate on 1h sword
Forceful greatsword: a must for greatsword
Leg specialist: both 1h sword and GS benefit in dungeon/WvW/PvP
Shung it off / Lung capacity: depend situation if heavy condition or not
Shout heal: make you and your allies more durable

suggest with soldier rune

This build is very flexible, i am able to switch around with regen banner and shout heal; extremely flexible weapon choice: GS + 1hS / GS + R / 1hS + R / GS + LB / 1hS + LB / R + LB by tweak around the trait slot in ARM and TACTICS; 10 Strength, switch to death from above when i need to jump off a cliff, switch to restorative strength when expecting high immobilize hostile.

Your Thoughts: Are Elementalists worth making

in Elementalist

Posted by: Crossaber.8934

Crossaber.8934

I would prefer to weapon swap and be able to have one or two elemental specializes. I just dont think attunement dancing is that rewarding. Or make it so you have swap and change faster. I mean after all we wont be changing from range to melee or anything like those that can swap weapons can do and considering the abilities have cool downs on abilities mean it wouldnt be that over powered or anything

I disagree again.
Frankly, it is never fun to give a player a class (consisting of four attunements) and then telling them to choose 1 or 2 attunements to keep, and then taking the rest away.

And if you want to specialize in one or two attunements, you can already do so by selecting major traits. EACH of the four elemental traitlines has a trait that reduces the cooldown of weapon skills for that element, as well as a trait that increases the damage of weapon skills for that element.
This way, you can use the skills from these elements more often and for more damage, increasing the viability of relying on fewer attunements.

Sure we have more abilities BUT for example D/D we lack range if we were fighting a Melee – one press of a button bang they are a range and we would be at a disadvantage thanks to the fact that we have very little Range abilities/Range CC when using D/D

You have three gap closers in D/D: Fire #3, Air #4 and Earth #3 (which also immobilizes them). Add to this the cripples, chills and knockdowns in Water, Air and Earth, which ensure that enemies have a hard time getting away from you.
This does not give D/D real range advantage, but it does give a dagger elementalist a fair chance against ranged attackers.

Nothing wrong with allowing them to specialize in one rather then being forced into atunement dancing. The difference is while you can “specialize” one in the current system you STILL have to atunement dance in order to make the most of the class

and again gap closers which FORCE us into atunement dancing. Plus you are ignoring the fact that BOTH the Air and Earth ones are STILL bugged – Air one either doesnt move you and explodes or goes THROUGH and past the target and explodes both making it VERY annoying when being a Melee role. Earth one bugs out as well.

Good point, now i do wish warrior can use 1h sword without offhand and be viable… oh and i also want to be viable with scepter without offhand… I am sure if I ask around the forum using main hand only without offhand viable or not, everyone will call me nut… why? Because the game was designed to combine main hand and off hand. An elementalist is given 4 attunements by game designer, this is intended and you are welcome to use single attunement but you will only kitten yourself, it is so simple.

I believe only the best elementalist able to make use of all elements.

I am kind of agree with OP, but i can’t say i don’t understand the worries about the ascended gear.

First of all, me and my guildmates are casual players. No matter how much new contents they added, we are not able to enjoy it any sooner. Yes we are far from getting exotic gears. We paid and play this game without monthly so we have tons of times to play our ways to ascended gear. We don’t give a crap what agony is, because we still have tons of dungeon story mode we need to go through, tons to skin we want from dungeon.

If Anet claims there will be no treadmill, then we will see, and hope they are telling the truth. I don’t even sure if i am still playing the game before i get into ascended gears, so it is just seems so the gear cap is extended or so.

Finally, i do hope Anet kept their promise GW2 will not have treadmill, if if they do; it is not end of the world, since i am enjoying the contents that i originally paid for with or without ascended gear.

i just hit 80 on my mes. i’ve been killing some stuff in frostgorge sound. while i can confirm that I feel that the zerker damages a bit less, it does seem to do its attacks more often. I just don’t know if I’m remembering correctly since i’ve not been playing this class for the past few weeks (and based on the feedback on the forums, i guess i won’t be returning to this class any time soon). I’m not using phantasmal haste btw and I’m equipped in full berserker gear. can anyone confirm this?

I felt the same too, especially the first hit after generate, it usually miss the first hit of the roll because the phantasm is already start rolling before the hit count. Which in result a damage loss. But as long as the fight last long enough, the iZerker become more active and having slight increase in rate of fire, therefore i don’t feel any weaker in long battle but a bit kitten in short battle.

Clones / illusions / phantasm are the bread and butter to a mesmer, if the casting limitation is set to be so high, please at least display a red text “target is not in line of sight” instead without activate the skill (means no CD), so at least we can use the skill as soon as we believe we are able to cast.

Sometimes it is bug, sometimes it is camera issue which we cannot sure our casting is within line of sight or not, and players should not be punished by hit box bug or camera issue which makes our casting failed.

Yes elementalist got a lot of tricks to stay alive to balance out the low health pool low armor… skills and traits are there but many players refused to use them! Defensive traits are far more important than the power and precision stat imo. If traited with earth / water, gear up with more power and precision then… If going for fire / air trait, then gear up with some toughness and vitality.

Elementalist is not a “hard mode”, instead, she is a different mode compare to traditional MMO.

I can 2v1 pretty easily. I can 3v1 with some luck and depending on the classes involved.

I can port into the middle of a zerg, unleash aoes in the middle of them, down 4 people and get out. I can rain down aoe from walls. I can heal allies. I have the best mobility in the game. I’m pretty much as tough as a guardian.

Wait….what’s the problem again? I think the difficulty is rewarding me just fine.

I wanted to play a warrior. I almost always play some sort of melee / tank in most MMOS. But it turns out I don’t like the warrior here. Too much of the same 3 buttons over and over. So I switched to elementalist and I love it.

So should I be crying that I don’t like to play my warrior?

I felt you, I am hardcore warrior player and i do love my warrior. Then i played ele and mesmer, i just found that both classes can do far more and further than my warrior able to.

To my guessing, warrior class player tends to play with reflexes and calculate enemy attack range and seek chance to close gap and hit. The warrior practices applied to ele and mesmer along with their better survival ability, the result is obvious. My ele and mesmer can do some very hard content alone where my warrior can’t. I am not saying they are easier to play but the reward is far better than expected.

Have there been buffs to warrior?

Actually all classes will be easier to play when a player learn how to dodge, move, position in GW2. I even have better result with my ele and mesmer than my warrior main tho, because they have a lot more ways to avoid being hit and kite.

Easy Fix for the Shield

I just recently switched from greatsword to 1h sword + shield combo and i loved it.

This combo is great in both PvE and WvW, i traited with leg specialist, where i can leap into enemy, hamstring to apply 1 sec immobilize, strafe around with chain attack applying bleed, shield bush to leap and stun then Flurry, switch whatever 2nd set is and do the kill, it is a very smooth and powerful lock down attack. I don’t mind shield skill a little buff on CD but even no change warrior shield is a good off hand.

GW2 is a game without monthly fee like skyrim, COD or whatever PS3 games or xbox games. Once i bought it, i played through all contents then what else? nothing! You either keep playing or find another game, easy. Why do i have to expect more contents and gear grind again and again?

I played Skyrim, once i get the top tier gear and i knew this is the maximum stat i get, do i expect the dev release higher tier gear? Nope.

But if Anet decided to have more tier gear based on expansion contents, then it is fine as long as i can play casually to obtain the new gear.

And i believe the problem lays in GW2 combat system. I am a hardcore warrior player no matter what MMO my main always a warrior. But i was suck in every MMO warrior because the combat system is based on STAT only, you control is only focused on skill bar, you barely need movement, positioning and reflexes. The ideal warrior in my mind is in medium armor, high mobility, high damage and able to gap closing, swing the big weapon and back off without being seriously hit. But all MMO based on STAT once you being targeted, no matter how you run and jump, the hit still connect. Every trinity MMO made warrior into a tank or offtank where you need high def high HP to survive, and they killed all “Dodge tank” build in order to class balance, this is my hate upon trinity MMO.

Here in GW2, my dreams come true, i don’t need to stack defense, i can stack high power and high vit in order to take some hit but survive. I made couple alt: mesmer, guardian, elementalist, ranger to mid – high lv, i’ve got 0 problem on every toon. Every toon died fewer than my warrior and all my alt play style is similar to how i play my warrior: reflexes + movement + positioning

This is the biggest differences GW2 to traditional MMO, and i’ve seen so many mages players they refuse to move and button smash their skill bar hoping to kill the foes before getting hit, this is not a viable option in GW2 imho. Therefore a player’s play style is critical in mix and match with GW2 combat system, this is where L2P issue is.

I don’t know what MMOs you played…or exactly how lame warriors are in other games…but as a healer, I always had to be aware of skills going off around me, my position, that of my team. You don’t need a big button with “dodge” tag on it to actively avoid dmg(most MMOs feature point-and-click aoes that won’t hit you unless you stand in them and also aoes around the char).

Trinity has nothing to do with how classes work. My last MMO had exactly the class you are describing only called slayer and not warrior. And it is a trinity MMO.

Lastly, GW2 is not really special in class matching. You are either good at smth or you aren’t. How the combat works has nothing to do with it. A bad ranger in any game will still be a bad ranger in GW2.

You either don’t read me clear or i am not speaking clearly. I am not objecting your last reply, i am agree with you, where the play style of the player does matters. What i am also telling the combat system played a role in what you say mix and match…

Class play style + Player play style + Game mechanics is what giving the result

My case is: most trinity based MMO makes armored class into tank, they can go melee only and to survive they need high HP and high def to endure the big AoE from bosses, there no matter how my warrior build toward dps, i am dead because i sacrifice def and hp for more damage. I have no option to dodge either… end of my story.

What i am telling, the way i loved to build my warrior is my play style, i can merge into GW2 easily, but to some players they adapted the trinity style where someone tank and someone heal, the ranged dps have a easier life because they can move away from point blank AoE easier but they probably not get used to the lower dps as ranged and need to dodge a lot as healer is not as powerful.

There are a lot of players don’t have dodge in mind and i am quite positive here. My friend got more MMO exp then me and used to tank quite well in a WoW copycat we used to play. But he died a lot more in GW2 as a guardian compare to any of my toons even to my ele. Because he already build up his play style according to trinity play style MMO, fight head on, toe to toe, rely heavily on gear stat and healing to stay alive rather than well positioning, a lot of movements and pop def or interrupt skill at the right timing! A good tank in WoW not necessary a good tank in GW2, i never play as tank like my friend in WoW copycat but i am a better tank in GW2.

To tell the truth, i expect more lv80 dungeon which require more tactics and creativity to beat rather than new tier of gear every once a while. But who knows the ascended gear is already planned by Anet or it is a temporary solution to some “elite” players who claims the end game is nothing….

I personally hope the ascended gear is the top tier item as intended from the sketches of GW2, and stop right there. Anyway i will gladly accept this new contents and see what it will bring.

The fun of GW is always how you plan and build your character, the TEAM tactics in nasty situations, the creativity in bring most out of your skill bar…… gear is the least concern. But I will keep playing as long as the gear grind is in acceptable level…

In WvW we don’t have agony condition right? then adjust the ascended gear stat lv is a solution…. but i don’t care, i go WvW with lv55 mesmer and i killed somebody, how the hell i knew the player is actually lv1 or lv80 and who get the gear advantages? Who actually knows?

PvP is separate from PvE and WvW right? Everyone should be able to get equal gear so i don’t see a reason ascended gear will be any advantage…

I have no such rage as OP’s, but I want to explain, what really dissapoints me. Elementalist was developed to be most flexible profession in the game, but when I play ele I feel really bulky and clumsy. It’s embarassing to be only member in a party who can’t switch attack range, speed and area. Tyria is great for explaration, so when I play other profession I feel like Indiana Jones, juping into deep caverns and abandoned temples. Sometimes my current setup isn’t good for encounter which I faced, but even that I can beat it with wit and avaible means. But not when I play ele, because ele needs specific setup and weapon for each encounter.
I don’t mean that ele is to difficult or even unplayeble for me. No. I mean ele is actually flexless. Clumsiest profession in the game.

I understand your concern, just trying to share a small example to one single “limited” situation. This happens mostly on Staff, when foes come into my melee range, i mostly use earth 2 with huge bleeding so that i can move freely while foes bleed to death. Cast earth 2 on foe, and it go through the area happily, i will dodge INTO foe and go into my earth AoE zone, foe will turn around and it got hit by my earth 2, run around and use earth 2 again with the same tactics, pop earth armor or acane shield if needed.

Many players feel earth 2 is hard to hit moving foes, but i use it when solo A LOT, no matter how we positioning ourselves, there are ways to lurk foes into the AoE zone, i don’t always needed to swap element and it is fun to lurk couple foes into the AoE. Remember it is your movement to gain control of your foes, that’s what GW2 PvE combat fun is imho.

Many skills are not as straight forward as you see, many weapon skills require more tactical mind and reflexes to get the most out of it, like chunking earth with lighting flash combo, use your creativity, isn’t that all fantasy story mages are supposed good at? Playing ele straight forward like a warrior thats the reason someone claims warrior is easier to play with.

To OP

Movement + positioning + reflexes, playing warrior is like playing an action game, what boring again?

I feel boring when i played some trinity MMO caster, just remember the skill pattern, rotate it again and again, foes dead without even touching me is what i felt true boring. What is the skill without measuring distance, position advantage, good interrupt timing, dodge timing, read the situation? None…

This essentially means L2P, as in, L2P Elementalist. I actually find that your post supports Calle, rather than the opposite. Though you believe each person has a specific playstyle and can’t surpass good outside of it, I, on the other hand, believe that players can adapt to any class, if they take the time to understand it.

Adapting to smth and being natural are 2 different things. If you don’t have a talent to draw, working hard might improve your skill enough for you to be able to study architecture. But you’ll never be an artist. Unlike that guy(and we all know one) who can just take a pencil and draw a masterpiece in 5 mins without even thinking about it. I can put as much effort and time as I want in a dps class, but I will always be a better healer. Because that’s what I’m good at.And if you put the effort into smth you already have a talent for, you’ll become exceptional at it. If you focus your effort on smth you suck at to begin with, you’ll be decent at best.

This is quite true.

And i believe the problem lays in GW2 combat system. I am a hardcore warrior player no matter what MMO my main always a warrior. I use FGJ a lot but i can’t get myself auto-cast, it is annoy when standing still doing some craft, my warrior or somebody else yelled “for great justice…”

But i still remember the reason i never auto cast FGJ is… my hero screamed “FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!” right after i slaughter a rabbit…

A samurai master class – A master of counter attack

Weapon: katana(new weapon, 2h weapon), 1h sword, dagger(OH), longbow, pistol(OH)

Armor-Medium armor
Health-Medium health pool

Class specific: Zen
An energy bar similar to adrenaline, with 5 level, stand still/block in combat to generate zen, the more zen energy, the more damage the weapon skill can output, zen energy will stop generate while moving, some weapon skill consume zen energy from 1 level to 3 level depends on skills, however zen energy is not required to launch weapon skill.

All weapon skill set will have 1-2 block skills, as long as zen energy is fully filled, samurai will gain might and retaliation boon. Utility skill provide a wide range of choice on avoid/block damage, reflect projectile etc.

The above marnick suggestions are quite correct.

Especially point 3 where you find your build is not good at survivability, then trait for it. Glass cannon is a high skill cap build, require good dodge reflexes, good time control, good combat reading…. If you can’t survive in glass cannon build, then don’t.

I rather like the way it is now, you don’t need to fight champion… or say i rather they drop trash so you won’t see groups of player sitting around wait for the champion to spawn then slaughter the champion again and again. I fight champion for fun and challenge mostly.

I played a couple class to about lv60 or above, warrior is my main, then comes mesmer, guardian and elementalist.

The way i played my warrior is strafe around always, no matter what weapon i am using, no matter how good i can endure the damage i won’t ever stand still and toe to toe combat, it is stupid if you can avoid damage why take it. Then i used the same tactics on my mesmer. The damage is very low but she is able to solo kite and kill 3 lv higher elite mob. I read players said elementalist is underpowered, so i decided to give it a try. I still use the same tactics like my warrior and mesmer and it is amazingly less dying then my warrior at pal level. I could say elementalist is not a entry level class, but it is not hard either, just throw away the traditional MMO where mages can kill everything before things get toe to toe(if this happens then it is the mages class is broken imo). Once I played a double ele team exploring a lv 25-40 map, we are both lv40, we fought a world boss, my partner got defeated becoz 2 elites spawned and overwhelmed him. I survived kitting the boss killed the 2 elites while my partner spawn at WP and fought his way back. The fight lasted about 20 mins and we killed the boss along with over 10 spawned elites…

Every class got to dodge and block in different ways and elementalist got quite a lot of skill to do so. I won’t say learn to play but rather you need to adapt the way of elementalist than the broken mages you used to play in other MMO.

Why don't transmute stones allow us to look the way we want?

I played another game where you can transmute whatever gear and weapon to the skin you like. In that game warrior was the worst class out of all but in highest level area, you can find the place is flooded with WARRIORS… until you see their spells and they are actually MAGES…

So no, don’t like this idea, if a cha looks like a warrior, they should be a warrior.
