In an alternate reality where none of the other elite specialisations and their respective meta builds exist I would absolutely agree. But in context of all the broken things in the game currently, Chronophantasma is as balanced as all the other nightmares that plague this game. Sad, but true.

Totally agree. Illusions die with a slight breeze and both Chronophantasma and Illusionary Reversion are almost mandatory to have any chance of being successful against HoT specs. One duel vs a melee warrior doesn’t show anything – how about a duel vs a DH, scrapper, reaper, daredevil or druid for example.

I recall playing sc/t + staff glamour confusion in hotjoins simply because as a total noob it was the easiest thing to play – slap down the glamour fields and players weren’t good so would inevitably walk in and out and eventually kill themselves. Chaos armour was also good so allies blasting the fields for it was nice.

Sword/Focus was great in that state of the game with blurred frenzy invuln and 10s base cooldown, and instant into the void on temporal curtain. Probably standard use in many power shatter or phantasm builds. Although I prefer the current ileap compared with the running clone – at least you can now port up terrain to chase enemies. Though loss of stunbreak on swap and no clone alive requirement to activate swap, but that’s understandable.

It’s sad how Focus is totally neglected right now – utterly kitten vs HoT classes and builds and not to mention Shield being entirely superior. Nevermind Warden’s Feedback competing with Restorative Illusions – and how many players in pvp or wvw traiting Inspiration would take Warden’s Feedback over Restorative Illusions – I bet close to zero… it’s so sad. Focus needs some buffs and Warden’s Feedback ought to be moved down to adept tier.

And they all run such tanky amulets LOL!

The only condition amulets right now with toughness are Rabid and Wanderer.

Viper, Sinister, Rampager and Destroyer are 100% pure glass cannon – more risky than certain power only amulets (ie Demolisher). I often get one shot when playing Viper mesmer if I’m not playing carefully, whereas I have a much easier/more brainless time playing power mesmer with Demolisher.

Carrion and Sage are not tanky at all – the vitality is easily broken through with direct damage.

Sure in wvw condition builds can pad out defensive stats and be obscenely powerful at the same time. But the amulet choices in pvp are currently too restrictive and skewed toward the glassy side of things such that many condition and hybrid builds are not tanky, especially when considering the direct damage output certain builds can deal which eats through any amount of defensive stat in seconds.

From all the videos I find this to be a really cool legendary, possibly my favourite above bifrost and astralaria, but does it affect the iDuelist or is it only magic bullet? Does anyone use HOPE on mesmer and enjoy it?

I don’t know whether it is worth aiming for (ha ha) as a goal or whether it is a waste of time for mesmer given how we use pistol, and would be better suited to thief or engi. But I have no intention of playing engi and p/p is a really monotonous set on thief…

But given that surely we are highly likely to see mh pistol sometime in the future I wonder if I should start working toward HOPE now or leave it?

The kicker would be if they give us mh axe for our next elite spec and then I’d regret it… :/

The whole Moa skill (and Portal skill) should be removed from PvP, both are way too overpowered to be allowed in a pvp game

I agree. It would also allow mesmers to be better balanced rather than always having to be cautious with balance due to the existence of these two gimmicks.

You all are forgetting Mind Spike removes boons. I agree it is not ideal in most circumstances to use a sword auto with a Mesmer but that just means that the sword auto needs to be improved (given some range) or boon strip moved to Blurred Frenzy or some such.

Oh I’m sure we’re all aware of Mind Spike on sword AA, however in practice it is very difficult to get much use out of it. Sure you can pop the odd boon, but it’s not on demand (unless you prepare the auto chain on an object or something) and being in melee range for extended time to execute a melee attack chain is not usually good for our health.

Mind stab on the other hand can be executed very fast, at range and in aoe on multiple enemies, although the single boon removal is a poor reward in the current state of the game.

I think that too much relies on Shattered Concentration when it comes to decent boon removal.

Similar to how too much relies on Restorative Illusions (and menders purity for free) if you want decent condi cleanse.

I would like to see less reliance on such pivotal traits (meaning either you have to take Domination or you have to take Inspiration if you want to be good at one or the other..) and instead spreading the ability around weapon and utility skills. The buffs to iDisenchanter were a start but it’s still way too fragile and clunky to be anything other than a gimmick.

1. I identify with asura perfectly fine despite being human IRL. I’d go as far as saying I identify with asura MORE than in game humans, personality wise. In game humans are stereotypical fantasy nonsense. Therefore having player character be asura is a must.

2. I don’t care about having a billion armour skins – there are enough currently in the game to have fun with.

In any case I find there are more than enough armour skins for me to mess around with for asura – never got bored yet with all the light armour options.

And besides I have more than enough fun with the character, voice, animations and so on that I don’t care if there are a limited number of armour sets.

Well, if Charr weren’t a playable race, I’d probably have more of a life, and much larger bank. And the forums would be completely free of any of my posts.

Same for me, except asura instead of charr.

Half of what sold me on this game was the aesthetics of the asura – the character styles, the personalities, the lore/social structure and the architecture.

I would have never started playing this game if asura were not playable – in hindsight maybe would have been a good thing.

The asura personal stories are genius – so funny and entertaining. The characters – both npc and player are fantastic.

I’d happily delete moa in favour of an elite skill that turns on friendly fire for a brief time (flags all enemies to take damage from all sources including their teammates) to all enemies in a target area.

Would be more fun tbh – thinking of “Mayhem” grandmaster illusion spell in skyrim.

Would also be funny seeing for example DH traps and other aoe decimate their own team. xD

Yeah agreed. Need to choose which classes/builds you want to have an easier time against and which ones you need to compromise and accept being worse off against.

And the other indirect “buff” being nerfs to other classes? Well HoT elite specs are all still overpowered, meta condi mesmer can’t reliably boon strip (Disenchantet is easily cleaved and absolutely cannot compare with Shattered Concentration which is one of the best boon removal traits), can still be countered by other classes, still has to use glassy amulets (Viper, Carrion because both rabid and wanderer suck in terms of damage output…) and then is arguably more glass than power builds using Demolisher. I play condi mes with viper and can easily lose a huge fraction of health from say a single DH longbow auto attack… ie all defence is active defence just like power shatter.

So I hardly think there’s much buff there at all.

Any assertions of being buffed to godlike status (ie press one button everything dies while facetanking damage from 5 players) are gross exaggerations. We are still killable/beatable – this is what I’m arguing against.

Theme sounds good – I like the displacement feature.

Elite skill is too similar to gravity well so I think that could be more unique.

Perhaps too much reflect will cause a lot of qq due to projectile hate.

But I like the core theme for sure.

Resistance Equivalent to Protection

The nerf should be to removing the kittening RNG from the boonstrip and condi application so players can intelligently control their and their opponent’s boons and condis. I like the idea of prioritizing damaging conditions and damage mitigation boons for removal. A priority list? Change resistance so it only affects damage related conditions and maybe if it’s up the condi clear would prioritize the movement impairing conditions so when resistance ends, condis can still do damage. This places more importance on the Expertise condi stat as it would precision for power classes. I feel this would significantly change the way condi bombs work and I think it would be more fun since it doesn’t hinge on the RNGods (not fun, this is never fun).

Agreed. Being able to prioritise removal of boons/conditions would be better for the game.

All I have wanted since year one is Dual Foci (Focuses?). Made one minstrel and started on a second. Progress on that stopped with the wardrobe changes, but still, Dual Foci please. :P

This – I still have the dream of dual wield Anomalies.

And regarding the elite spec – it would be nice to have a proper illusionist/control themed spec rather than a glorified dps (shatter) or support (alacrity bot). Something where you can toy with the enemies, really confusing them (not confusion condition…) and frustrating them.

Burst damage would have to be lowered a lot when choosing this spec but on the flipside there should be plenty of crowd control, denial, debuffing and general mischief.

Well I always use both Decoy and Mirror Images, and with the cooldown buff Mirror Images is much easier to use for offensive burst without worrying about wasting a long cooldown stunbreak, or feeling like you have to use it within F5.

I like Decoy as it is – the stealth makes sense on this skill. If anything, the taunt could be added in addition to the stealth, although that would likely involve raising the cooldown further which I don’t think is a good idea. In any case regarding taunt – what if the target is immune to taunt? It would make the skill more useless than it is now.

I think Mirror Images is fine now, but perhaps you could gain 2s of Mirror (reflect) on using the skill.

How about Trahearne's memorial?

Yeah I agree it is a shame to see nothing for Trahearne.

Despite not liking the voice acting I did like his character and it’s a bit unkind to ignore him while focusing so heavily on Eir.

But then you could find similar situations in the old personal story – ie fawning over Apatia’s death (who you barely knew) while totally ignoring the deaths of Sieran/Tybalt/Forgal.

- Voice acting was fantastic. I can never get bored of listening to the voice acting, especially Taimi. Holy kitten she’s awesome. I want her as a kid, even the asura side of her.

Haha, yeah Taimi’s character is always the highlight of every LS. Her voice actor is fantastic.

On that note I think overall the writers have done a great job this episode – the characters and story carried it.

I like flying in the new zone and collecting unbound magic (on wings of gold is by far my favourite adventure in AB), although do get tired of the red scenery.

Salvage all is by far the second best thing in this patch (Taimi is of course the best thing). Now I’d just like a way to not get overloaded with useless minor/major runes from all the salvaging.

The most annoying change is the infusion change – it wasn’t clear you could now extract infusions for cheap (25s) providing you have the fractal mastery tier unlocked to access the vendor…. I ended up overwriting 7 wvw infusions with other wvw infusions (wasting 35 laurels) before finding out about this vendor, which is gated behind a mastery.

If conditions in general are neutered then I’d like to see suitable amulets with stats that allow for sustain while dealing damage over a longer time period (ie mercenary).

If I’m playing Viper then hell yes I want condi burst because I don’t have the stats to survive while dealing damage over a longer time.

glad to hear it. Was wondering if this weapon would be useful for condi builds (yes I know pistol is probably still better dps, but torch has some other utility options).

Well I’ve always preferred Torch anyway, even when Shield came along.

But now the extra damage on Prestige (especially if using Viper gear) allows for little things like faking a burst – if they don’t dodge prestige burn then they still take some decent damage; if they do dodge then you can follow up with shatter.

Not if you remove the infusion first. You can do so by buying an infusion extractor device for 24 silver.

Crafting an attuned ring will destroy all upgrades (including Infusions) in the original ring. The Infusions can be safely removed prior to Attunement by using an Infusion Extraction Device; and these Infusions can then be reapplied.

I just spent 35 laurels and overwrote 7 different infusions on weapons and trinkets all with resilient infusions last night before seeing that it is now possible to extract them cheaply first.

@Thread title – funny, they all look like base mesmer buffs for neglected/unused skills to me.

Regarding condi chrono, I don’t think it is as powerful as it is whined about being on these forums for one reason – amulets. If you take Viper, Carrion or Sinister then you’re extremely easy to kill. I play Viper when I play condi and it is more difficult to play than using Demolisher for power.

Wanderer doesn’t really have enough toughness to sustain itself given it also can’t output high burst damage either (unlike Demolisher where you can still 100-10% some builds hp while having reasonable toughness).

So that leaves Rabid – but then you have a low health pool and abysmal direct damage and the toughness doesn’t provide enough sustain to make up for the lower overall damage output. In any case don’t worry, I’m sure Anet will be deleting Rabid amulet before the next season.

The only legit problem I could entertain regarding condi mesmer is Inspiration: what could still be done next patch is sharing out the condi removal/sustain of Inspiration into other lines, because even with the iDefender nerf it is still to good to pass up.

Shatter spam is a problem with every mesmer build right now thanks to design changes over the last year, so that is not condi exclusive. You end up spamming shatters in every build.

What keeps it relevant is the low ICD of 3 seconds which allows it to proc frequently, otherwise I’d switch to fire or blood.
