Tough choice between Wanderer’s and Viper’s though.
I think Viper is better than Sinister for us, but they’re both full glass.
I just wish Wanderer had 1050 toughness and 560 precision instead of the other way around, but I think I will stick with it.
Wanderer’s + Tormenting does look good for pvp.
Rune of daredevil 6th bonus! :o
Looks like no ICD.
For the first time in ages I’m playing with the game music on again instead of listening to my own stuff in thebackground.
Very cool so far.
Interesting, wonder what the other profession runes are like. 5 mins to go with this download!
Last 8% is taking ages but otherwise the speed has been good.
Rytlock is the only tolerable one in Destiny’s Edge. Quite the contrary, I like Rytlock a LOT!
Keep Rytlock. Toss away the rest of Destiny’s Edge.
Zojja’s a cool character too, but I agree Rytlock is the best.
Toss the other three.
Sword: So we can’t swap under stun, or we can swap but we’re still stunned (ala phase retreat?)
I would hope that we can at least swap but remain stunned.
Temporal curtain looks like it should be good though.
stop the chit chat and start downlouding the game 20 min to chorno opiness
Shush you, let’s play and have fun before the knee-jerk nerf complaints start to flood in. I don’t want a repeat of the MtD nerf! xD
But I also think Anet won’t nerf any of the elite specs for at least 3-6 months in order to sell the expansion.
Cool to see Rytlock on there.
If stun break is removed from swap, then I would like to see either the swap clone given blur on spawning it, or let us swap with the location of a dead clone again.
Either that or lower the base cooldown of ileap to like 8 seconds or something.
In addition it would be nice for the clone summon delay to also be removed.
Not happy with what is happening with sword 3 at the moment. The only good thing about it right now is being able to chase people up/down ledges/terrain which I hope stays the same. Apart from that it needs attention.
How long is it – now or in 1 hour?
It’s 7am BST (GMT+1) now, wondering if I should get up or lie in for another hour.
Congratulations, maybe in a few years you might have a little time to play again once things settle down for you.
MSI and gigabyte do some nice portable machines that could easily handle gw2 and I’m sure second hand prices would be reasonable once you had more time to play.
Given the new pvp amulets, potential runes, sigils, skill/trait tweaks, stat changes, I have no idea tomorrow.
It’s fun to have a new blank canvas to work with.
Extremely fortunate to have the day off tomorrow due to some weird feature in my workplace that I’ve never encountered before (everyone gets tomorrow off…).
Your boss must play GW2
I teach in school and it’s half term this coming week but for some weird reason the current school I’m in had the last day for students on Wednesday and we just had a staff training day today.
No idea why but I’ve got tomorrow and then the whole of next week off. (well of course still a lot of work to do but I don’t care about that tomorrow).
Ok I thought this was a joke troll post at first but now I see you might be serious…
First, BF is the easiest thing to deal with given you know exactly when it will end and where the mesmer will be after the blur ends (unless they chain blink or something else at the end to escape the damage, but then they’ve wasted a key skill so take advantage of that). Very easy to save up damage and apply cc or hit hard immediately on evade end. It’s a total non-issue. I have zero problems with blurred frenzy when playing any class. Not to mention retal kittens all over it. BF has been nerfed enough in the past, leave it alone.
Perma evade? lol, what else is there currently (before we get well of precognition) apart from normal dodges and BF? No other weapon offers evade, nor does any utility (again apart from well of precog). I’ll give you perma evade – try melee GS + Sw/D Ranger, now that is true perma evade…
Stealth bursts are very easy to predict and avoid if you know the mesmer is fighting you. It’s only when you don’t know a mesmer is in the vicinity and they gank you while you’re fighting another player(s) that you can’t do much. But seriously that’s the same with any class that ganks you – this is pvp with predefined teams, not wvw – if there’s a mesmer on the enemy team then look at the kitten mini map and pay attention to where they are and whether they plan to engage you in combat.
If 1v1ing a mesmer then most of the time the bursts are extremely predictable and easy to avoid. If they stealth while fighting, wait and anticipate incoming damage by dodging or using a defensive skill. If they go for burst outside of stealth then you have no excuses to not see the obvious animations and avoid at least the initial burst. If they stun use a stunbreak, if daze just dodge first…
Even then you can easily do things like engi shield 4 magnetic knockback to a stealthed mesmer to mess up their skill usage and I’m a total noob/crap engi yet still manage to dodge, block or otherwise avoid mesmer bursts and mess up their skill use – because as a mesmer main I understand how the average mesmer thinks. Not just how the class functions, but how mesmer players minds work and the subtle patterns in play that usually arise.
I can’t do the same to say necros (or engineers, eles and several other classes) for example because I have barely touched necro and have no idea of the thought process/personality that goes behind playing one so I have no idea how necro mains think, even though I know enough about how the class functions to fight against it.
I’m ready, bring it on.
But first, some sleep…
Extremely fortunate to have the day off tomorrow due to some weird feature in my workplace that I’ve never encountered before (everyone gets tomorrow off…).
I’m glad I’m only a main player – so much easier to max everything.
The only alts I use are throwaway pvp characters.
Although alts have other benefits like birthday gifts…
I’m really excited about HoT and I can’t wait for tomorrow.
This, I’m thoroughly looking forward to it.
I chuckled.
/15charrs
Hopefully the dragonfly wings.
Fingers crossed.
lol, not a bad effort.
6/10.
YOU! Yes, you who just scrolled down without reading. Don’t even think about posting before you’ve read the above.
But moan moan moan, groan groan groan, perma this perma that perma insta, insta perma, insta insta, burst condi cancer noob scrub invuln stealth over9000 clones reflect evade confusion torment ranged stun insta 100-0 PU blinds blocks daze aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Nerf burning to 12%,, buff bleeding to 8%, buff torment to 10% when moving.
Reasonable suggestions, I agree although maybe not on the exact numbers.
Interested to see what the new Sword will be.
I don’t like Bolt at all, so I hope the new one is completely different to that.
To the OP, regarding rangers – the power longbow builds are weak against mesmers yes, but that is a ranger problem to do with their stunbreaking abilities.
Yes I also believe confounding suggestions should have a 10s ICD per foe (and mantras reverted back to background recharge) which would fix the stun problems.
Everything else with Mesmer is perfectly fine.
For the record my primary alt has been a melee power gs+sw/d ranger and I have zero problems fighting power mesmers with the ridiculous amount of evades, nevermind quickness on pet swap, maul damage and so on. And escaping condi mesmers is likewise easy given how hard it is for them to land damage in the first place and how weak that damage is.
Guess what – I decided to play engineer for a little while today – first time I’ve picked it up in over 2 years only to mess around in hotjoin.
I found it incredibly easy to play – full elixir condition build with elixir gun and pistol/shield.
I didn’t even know exactly how most of the skills worked and the amount of boons, condi removal, conditions, blocks, reflects, invulns, AoEs and so on were totally mindless.
Stupidly easy class to play – makes mesmer look like rocket science.
I was killing people left right and centre, and survivability was ridiculous, even as an almost total noob to the class.
Engineer OP?
Edit: Oh I forgot to add – fighting against some greatsword mesmers it was as usual incredibly easy to either block or dodge shatters because you can predict when they’re going to burst in the opening of a fight.

Waiting for those Dragonfly wings, hopefully soon.
Spelunker’s Delve is one of my favourite little places, as well as the base level of the Grove.
Happy for the pve players, this is great news.
Still a problem in large scale wvw though.
Block, ignore, move on.
And in my opinion the pve crowd can be even more elitist/toxic than the pvp crowd – unless playing something like condi mesmer or similar things that people love to hate – then the amount of bullkitten you receive increases exponentially.
I’m going to run across the meadows at +25% speed without using traveller runes.
High five!
Anyway yeah I’m probably going to spend a lot of time exploring the pve maps and personal story first, take my time to enjoy and complete all the content, maybe have a go at the adventures, do achievements, unlock any class specific things, etc… Once that’s all done I’ll hop back into pvp and check out the new wvw borderland.

Hmm well it would require a lot of work to rebalance weapon skills (especially cooldowns) to prevent crazy combos, and then there’s ele as well – can you imagine what it would be like if there was no cooldown on attunement swapping? kitten scary to think of that – eles would reign supreme.
Question (while it’s about the old camera, it feels like the best place to ask at the moment):
Is it possible to get a keybind for toggling autotargeting on and off? It will be especially useful when switching between classes that have a lot of movement skills (and attack without a target), and those that require a target for most skills; or even when doing different things on a single class.
This is another thing that has been possible with the combat mod for years – you could turn autotargeting off and then the “lock target” key effectively becomes a “deselect/drop target” key which made it extremely easy to play something like gs+sw/x melee ranger with a lot of untargeted movement skills. All of this was possible while retaining the crosshair and camera movement. Using select nearest/next would retarget an enemy.
I’m interested to see if this action camera can perform similarly, although I have a feeling it won’t be able to do all those little things initially.
Ah kitten , two problems for me then:
1. Can’t trigger autocast on skill #1 using left click.
2. Right mouse button can’t be bound to skill #2? (please correct me if I’m wrong)
Looks like I will be sticking with my modified autohotkey script of the combat mod then.
I will say it is good to see that tab/closest/next/previous/lock/detarget will work when using action camera so I may use it in the future if the features are expanded.
The problem isn’t surviving against them or killing them. I don’t fight stealthies as a general rule because the fights are long and drawn out to unnecessary and annoying lengths. Well past the point of losing interest and fun. I think its more an issue of how much damage they don’t take in comparison to how much damage they do and all while being invisible and porting around. As well being able to generate an endless supply of projectile blockers to hide behind. I used to play a PU mes and now I completely understand why everyone hated us.
Oh so is it PU as a trait then, or stealth in general?
lol – yeah didn’t you see what happened when that rally bug was there. Totally broke mesmers.
And what they all said about stealth (4 skills, usually never more than 3 taken at once, medium/long cooldowns, largely predictable usage, big windows of opportunity to fight back…)
Hoelbrak/Melandru for me.
Or any of the new unknown runes that will be coming which may have more uses.
I doubt it.
But this Action Camera is a welcome addition – I’ve been using a modified autohotkey script of the original combat mod for years, allowing me to use left click for auto attack and right click for skill #2, and mouse scroll to change weapons (shift scroll zooms camera if the crosshair is toggled on, and normal scroll zooms if the crosshair is toggled off), as well as crosshair which I toggle off to blink or use other ground targeted abilities and then toggle back on again.
In addition I can hold either left shift or alt and rotate the camera while maintaining the crosshair and direction of travel to look around/behind – releasing those buttons snaps me to face/run in the new direction. It works pretty nicely, no finger strain for camera movement, allows for fluid easy movement like in a tps/fps.
Oh and I use tab targeting with closest/next/previous/lock/detarget anyway – the crosshair is more for ease of character movement. I’m very used to toggling off/on to release and move the cursor for ground targeting or selecting targets.
I’ll see if this action mode can sufficiently replace/replicate all of that., although I’m expecting there to be too many limitations currently. It needs to be very specific for me in order to work in pvp.

Thanks, now its stuck in my head. :x
I think I am going to put this on repeat for a week and then sue ArenaNet for psychological damage.
lol – well it’s definitely going to be stuck in my head for the next 8 days. xD
I’m glad someone linked that.
Disappointed to see it wasn’t the first reply to the thread! :p
Necro I suppose – it’s the one class I’ve barely touched since release and I hate excessive ground targeting as well as the theme of the class.

But there’s so many quality of life benefits:
- 25% movement speed
- can stack anti cc condition duration reduction with hoelbrak/melandru etc
- chronophantasma (which ought to be a baseline mechanic at least for the pve players)
- alacrity
- F5
- superspeed illusions on shatter
FI should just be swapped down to adept tier with CS brought up to master tier. Would solve several problems in one go.
The problem with EM is it is an offensive trait – it doesn’t help much in defence seeing as you would have evaded the attack anyway, the reflect is just a nice little bonus – and also it competes with Blinding Dissipation which is a superior string on the defensive bow for any build.
Bountiful Disillusionment is a fantastic trait – I vastly prefer it to both PU and CI.
TE is situational – good with Medic’s Feedback, Null Field and Time Warp if playing support.
That’s purely Confounding Suggestions which I agree should have been dealt with instead of reverting mantras.
I sincerely hope so.
As a side note – on seeing the new legendary Astralaria I really want the next mesmer elite spec weapon to be mainhand axe. It’s stunningly beautiful.
Anyway for our weapons, I think most have fairly regular use apart from two – offhand Sword and offhand Focus are severely underepresented at the moment.
In terms of frequency of use in pvp/wvw and once Shield is added I’d rank them as:
1) GS
2) Staff
3) MH Sword
4) Shield
5) Scepter
6) Torch
7) Pistol
.
.
8) Focus
.
9) OH Sword
Focus needs some serious improvement because:
- Currently RI competes with Warden’s Feedback making it extremely unattractive to trait focus in pvp or wvw seeing as RI is a totally superior trait now.
- Projectile destruction is bugged when untraited – things can get through.
- Chrono will have 25% movement speed
- Shield will be superior defensive and interrupt weapon
- Only big benefit of Focus then is the pull.
It’s almost purely a mobility and pulling tool for wvw – it offers nothing else over Shield.
I strongly believe Warden’s Feedback must be moved to a different tier from Restorative Illusions to make it worth using. I also believe the iWarden should pulse some other form of defence other than projectile destruction/reflection to allies in its radius – perhaps blocking attacks or mitigating damage. Finally the Curtain must have its height increased.
Offhand sword also could do with some improvement for pvp/wvw – perhaps making skill 4 teleport you to your target on blocking an attack (like a defensive shadowshot), and the phantasm could be changed to cleave.
I would so love a One handed Sword with Astralaria’s visual effects.
So beautiful, the deep blue is much nicer than twilight.
