Do we win something for the week now?
I think he/she means the Tracking Rewards
The rewards, awesome.
The stab changes, awesome.
The server linking, needs work.Keep up the good work and please listen to the vocal minority about server identity, they are part of the GW2 community too.
fix’d
Make it an Unlockable Gem Store purchase to anyone who currently has a Lvl 80 on their account IF this was going to be a thing.
Books of Knowledge etc could be reworked to give the player something else.
Note: I am at current max slots with 80s and have no intention of purchasing more character slots so this wont affect me either way. I just don’t see an issue with lvl 80 being purchasable for those who put the time in to at least get one character to 80 first.
Exotic gear doesn’t need to be included, they should still have to work for that, but regular lvl 80 so they don’t start out nekkid.
Just because the Free Lvl 80 boost given to the HoT purchasers included Exotics and free lootz, does not mean the additional Gem Store Lvl 80 boost would have to. I mean why would they include it? They have the items already for purchase on the Gem Store. It would cut into their micro transactions.
The boost would have to be a bit more costly and/or the xp boosters available on the Gem Store reduced to make each more appealing per the user, ie. some people just like to grind out the levels (This guy, for the most part but yeah I did use my freebie (-: ) so the xp boosters are more appealing to them than a flat 80 boost.
Again though either way, no issue for me. Just my 2gems worth of opinion.
Could I suggest Farming up some Superior Runes of Durability. A group with these stack nicely. :-)
hate to break it to ya, but Anet has already expressed that they will be rotating the maps.. yes, they’re bringing back Alpine, but DBL will also come back…they said likely seasonal rotation
and for everyone who hates it… it really is much better after the changes. give it another shot
I hope they fix the central area of the Desert BL maps first. Maybe move the Garrisons down into it or something. Big wasted space that usually just gets run around.
PVD is only part of the equation. This is a good change because now maybe DR can actually start using their Skill bar. Sorry but you’re going to have to fight for what you want now.
I tried to warn you over a year ago of DR’s issues if you tried to rise in rank. Instead you opted to continue.
Welcome to the fight club!!!Father
Guess what rising in rank naturally does, allows you to adapt your skills naturally and over time.
Guess what all of a sudden being in a top tier does, Culture shock at seeing the blob mentality which nobody on the lower tiers ever wanted or we would have joined all of the people wanting to live off of the hard work of the already established top tiers and transferred.
We understand this is a Beta, and we are here letting Anet know how we feel about it. We will continue to voice our opinions or else Anet will think that we actually agree and nothing will change.
Annnnnnd here comes the Anet Disney Fast Pass… for the low low price of $50 you too can have queue priority. Be first, laugh and make fun of all your friends still standing in line. Buy now and get a new Punch to the Sack PvP Finisher!!!
A few points on things I’ve heard in this actually reasonable and constructive thread.
- People who like less populated maps: I don’t think this is a good argument for not merging servers. By very definition there are very few people who like low pop servers type play. The vast majority of people want large scale battles. Anet would never be able to balance for low pop style and I don’t think they should try.
Low pops could have been turned into Mid Pops by linking lows to low or lows to mid and leaving the top tier high pops out of it completely.
- Queues: Yes massive queues are a problem. Perhaps Anet needs to adjust the way they merged servers. They stated that they can even merge multiple servers. If, and that’s a big if, the queues stay this way, I hope they don’t wait 3 months to make adjustments. I was actually hoping they’d do shorter matches in the beginning.
I don’t even mind the queues, but coming from a low pop server with low pop tactics, entering into a world of BLOB vs BLOB steamrolls is just insane. Anybody who wanted that type of WvW warfare transferred off long ago to larger pop servers.
- Queues part 2: Ironically, queues are actually a good thing. They are the only way to guarantee balanced battles. If only one server has queues then the other two are at a disadvantage.
I understand about how queues (if on all sides) means player balance in WvW, but again this is not what the people who stayed on low pop servers asked for. Ocassional queues on reset and weekends are understandable. But again, my main concern for the Link choices Anet made are the loss of identity for the lower pop server guilds. We don’t want to be absorbed. Also, winning through being carried does not instill a sense of pride for a guild or server. May as well sit back, PVE then throw a big party for ourselves each time we win and blame the other server for when we don’t. (Extreme example)
- "Night"capping: This is still going to be a problem. And if it is a big enough problem then I think you will see the queues during prime time take care of themselves. I think that coverage issues are on of the top 3 things that killed WvW. You already see posts about “great even battles at reset, we were within 1500 score. But then I wake up and we’re down by 15,000”. Time sliced matches or dynamic map adjustment must happen for the interest in WvW to be maintained.
Yeah, got nothing for this. There is no way to balance pops correctly for 24/7 coverage without merging US/EU somehow.
I would not like a Map Wide VoiP. What I wouldn’t mind is Squad sized VoiP.
A leader of a squad could have control of those who join his squad by merely removing abusers.
Or even an option for individuals to right click and block a party members voice.
It’s not even all about the queues. ET’s identity in WvW is just gone. We have a few guilds who pride themselves in taking up the call, slapping on the commander tag and running the circuit. I actually made it into one of the Borderlands tonight. I did love seeing the groups running around and the battles that ensued. the horrible thing is that this is not our tight knit little community though.
Even if we had been merged with one or two of the lower tier servers, we would at least have the same styles in common to work with.
Temporary lower tier server linkings over the next few months should have been enough to gather date to see which of the low tiers needed to be merged together, without displacing the top tiers.
Once a good balance was found in WvW population and coverage , then the good matches could have been permanently merged. I wouldn’t even be as upset about possibly losing our server name to a new name as long as our way of game “life” stayed relatively the same.
It’s not the actual server that I need but the guilds and friends I have come to know and enjoy being around that is the important past. Adding another small server permanently would just add another same size pool to pull new friends from.
Tossing us into an ocean of higher skilled blob groups (and I say higher skilled due to the fact that they are accustomed to the tactics needed for a max pop WvW environment) is completely unfair as there is no room for what we bring to the tactics table based on our small server experience.
I would say it takes 3 of our guilds to put together the compositional make up of one of Blackgates regulars.
What it should have taken to start the process to gather the info for a merger was to take the bottom two servers of Tier 8, link them with the bottom server in Tier 7.
Take the top server in Tier 8 and link it with the middle server of Tier 7.
Top server of Tier 7 remains.
Theres 6 servers effectively made into 3, eliminating Tier 8.
From there you can readjust according to WvW participation per server along with your Glicko until you have some roughly balanced outcomes.
Sorry Tier 6, I am unaware of your current state, if it’s as shoddy as ours then maybe they could continue the linking up through T6 as well. 9 servers into 3 would be even easier.
But there is no reason to be shuffling anyone with the top 3-6 servers.
That’s ok big servers, we’ll just head to the kiddie table…. EotM FTL
They generally overthought their solution to WvW. There was no need to even touch the top tiers. Bottom tiers definitely needed some Linking with other low/bottom tiers to at least explore possibilities for future mergers. But as previous posters stated, linking the different play styles, and I mean HUGE gap in playstyles in T1 – T8, totally kills this.
This isn’t even about the long queues, yes they will die down, but the lower tier guilds are losing any identity they had when they must now merge into a passing blob or die.
Not to mention the lack of comradery as the elitest from the “pro” servers toss out the abuse to their new teammates.
I don’t know if Anet thought they were doing the low tiers a favor by shoving them in with the tops but that’s like throwing the jr high football team onto the field with College champs. We’ll be over here warming the bench.

Reposting this from another thread since this one is actually titled for ET
So Tier 8 ET, basically set as the “visiting server” up in the T1 class pretty much got their Guilds locked out of WvWvW. Went from having that couple of hours at a set time that we all get together (at least mine and a couple of other guilds, not all ET guilds) and WvWvW, we now have to spend that time do PVE instead, NOT what we really looked forward to in our time together.
In my opinion, the pairings were poorly done. Small servers don’t want huge big server BLOB battles and queue times. If we did, we would have transferred off years ago. But no, we stuck with our small servers (yes, larger pops would be nice but not MAX population). ET just pretty much lost their identity in WvWvW.
Now this is the first night, so maybe it will calm down later on, but if this is a normal Friday/Saturday night thing, then I’m pretty sure our WvW fun has ended.
Top tiers should have been left alone. Mid tiers, I don’t have any idea what should have been done. Bottom Tiers should have been Linked up as a test for merging to see how it all fit together.
I did happen to get in after a 30 min queue from reset. The remainder of our guild and another guild we run with are still sitting in queue.

Make it apply to a servers own DBL only? Home court advantage?
Instead of having them protect the keeps, make them protect the Garrison.
Add in something of value for holding the keeps as well to help protect Garrison?
If holding towers and keeps gets your Home BL’s Garrison more difficult to take without a ton of siege, not just a couple of well placed catas and paper walls, then more focus can be placed on retaking/defending towers and Keeps without as much worry about a force popping Garri out from under your nose.
Garrison should be the ultimate prize in a DBL and very difficult to take without weakening it’s defenses by taking surrounding property.
Maybe the keep bonuses could be reducing the amount of supply runs to increase the leveling up of a Garrison.

But but but, I used to be able to see my style and grace when running WvW, now I’m all green!!!! ;-D
I came back after 2 years, played about a month (WvW included), enjoyed it enough again to buy HoT. I feel it’s worth it, but my suggestion is play for a few weeks, make sure the core game is still fun enough for you to want to stick with it, then decide if you want to purchase HoT. Some of the Meta builds on some professions ( a few at least) don’t even delve into the Epic roles.
The changes were in process prior to the decision to bring back alpine maps. Designer decided to go ahead with them anyways until Alpine drops again. Won’t have to deal with them too long.
(edited by Daemonne.5018)
You wouldn’t get too much from level one maybe 10% of what they were carrying. You wouldn’t pull like 10 supply from one guy. Even if you pulled 1-2, if you killed 10 enemies you pretty much deserve to have looted 10-20 supply
Level 3 does seem redundant, but it would be that much supply you didn’t have to pull from the camp. tower or keep itself many times a tower supply will deplete fast from a group. Again, it wouldn’t be much. Maybe 5 supply for the person who downed the NPC.
This would be a new trait under Ranks & Abilities
level 1 would be able to “loot” (add) a % of the carried supply from a killed opponent to supplement your own (to your current max, maybe to +5?)
level 2 gain a % of supply added to your carried supply when killing a Dolyak
level 3 gain a % of supply added to your supply when killing a quartermaster or camp supervisor.
level 4 be able to “dismantle” any siege that you dropped to obtain a % of the supply cost back to you (contain it to the person that actually dropped the siege plans)
level 5 receive a % of an opponents siege supply cost when you destroy an enemy siege (if multiple people destroy the same target, the same calculations used for enemy bag drops would be used)
Nothing seems to look OP to me. Nothing that would be game changing. Just something to spend points on and maybe help out when supply is running out and you really don’t have access to that supply camp.
Lil Devils, I understand and respect your views listed in this thread, but I have to point out that your views are taken from a tier 1 viewpoint. While T1 may have constant coverage and the numbers to make guards etc obsolete, lower tiers, especially T6 – T8, need the added coverage as much of the time, Definitely in T8, the majority of the takeover is done during underpopulated hours.
I am for the OPs idea. The costs of supply would have to be tweaked so that one person could not rapidly depleat a tower or keep, but make enough of a dent so that the lack of supply available to repair a wall or defend a structure would be noticed and missed.
I also like the idea that Lil Devil posted in here, as my guild mates and I have had the same thought. If an opposing player was carrying supply, a % of that supply would be available as loot to be added to the killers supply (up to their normal max of course)
BUT, I believe this should be earned from from a WvW traited ability. Which I am actually going to start a thread on.
Only the Bottom 2 tiers would really need any server merging. Now which servers would merge with which would be the issue. We’d want a decent balance of WvW population.
It could be that two of the tier 8 servers would need to be combined with the 3rd place Tier 7, where as the remaining tier 8 server gets combined with the 2nd place. But again, they would have to run the numbers to make sure it doesn’t over populate and utterly giving once again one server overwhelming #s compared to the other 2.
As far as people seeing a server merger as ruining an existing server, IMHO, all this would really do is create opportunities for new friends and relationships. This wouldn’t be tearing any guilds or existing friendships apart as they would all be moving together. The only thing that would change would be the server name.
As far as ideas of merging low tier with top tier etc etc etc. Well, bottom tier does not share the same tactics as top tier. Top tier could possibly view the newcomers as a hindrance to their established WvW tactics. New tagged up commanders would have little to no respect or following. They would probably be relegated to large roaming groups responsible for grabbing and defending camps and the occasional tower.
Any server merging that happens, needs to keep the current cohesion as close as possible.
As far as server transfers, lets just keep that out of the equation altogether.
Why can’t the key be pressed once to queue it up to activate upon the next cool down? No spamming, no F2 needed to leave due to accidental spamming?
F1 on CD should activate it immediately upon CD unless it is pressed again to De-activate the queue.
Problem Solved.
I have yet to level a ranger/druid, so I am a bit ignorant on this but, do you happen to be using a salamander drake for a pet? Or maybe any other pet with a fire ability?
I don’t believe “Transfer” whether free or paid is the solution. Transferring would just be a big mess and most likely only tear apart communities and friendships that were long in making.
K/D = action. T1 through 5 average over 30000/30000 , T6 15000, T7 & T8 combined 6000.
Merging would be the better choice in my opinion. Whether it be merging T7 & T8 all together (in their respective tiers not 7+8) then merging T6 together making room for the 2 newly created server leaving only 6 Tiers, or Merging T7 & T8 completely together to form one server, Merging the bottom two servers in T6 together and again merging all into T6 capping the Tiers at T6 in the second scenario as well.
Merging will not remove communities and friendships made as they will still all be together, they will just have opportunity to expand with another community and make more friends and companions in the adventure of WvW
By the way, I also have remained on my starting server since I started back in Pre-launch
ET lifer
You said that you’ve only recently returned to WvW after an absence. You may have missed the fact that we no longer have a “home” borderlands at all. Each BL map is like EB now with an area we’re supposed to defend, and push out from there into enemy territory. This is why the side keep WP are not accessible to you on what used to be your home BL, even if you control the keep. I think the idea was to bring three way fights to each Desert Borderlands but in the lower tiers all it did was split an already small defending force up, not sure how it plays out in the higher tiers.
I know this is a different issue and don’t want to interrupt your thread – just thought I’d mention it because currently Anet is trying to get every server to be active on every map even when they don’t have enough players.
I did not realize that. Good to know.
Small servers are always going to be an issue. I don’t believe they will ever solve that short of combining servers into factions as I noticed one poster suggest.
I still die a little inside from back when they allowed all of those servers.
I poked my head into the WvW zones for a bit. Ran around a few territories and saw only NPCs. Hopefully later tonight during prime-time Ill see more activity. It’s just so saddening.
It has been a couple of years since I have actively played GW2, but now that I am back I am enjoying working a new class from the start, heading towards lvl 80 and then re-exploring WvW. As excited as I am about getting back into WvW, I have read quite a few threads containing much unhappiness with, what I viewed prior to GW2’s initial Lauch, as the main focus of the game for many people.
The main concerns I have noticed were with Server Pop, Night Capping and lack of Contact with enemy forces at times.
The idea that has crossed my, currently not truly up to date on GW2, mind is this:
Why not make each borderland completely unbreachable by opposing servers UNLESS they control Stonemist castle?
Once controlled and the servers banner is placed, (here comes the theatrics) a cut scene (Exit option included) would take over and 2 beams of light (colored for the Borderland controlling Stonemist Castle) would shine forth striking the Portals of the other 2 servers Borderlands. Once struck, the portals would take on the hue of the controlling Borderland showing access for that server to the enemy lands.
Now, ONLY the defenders of an individual Borderland and the oppressors controlling Stonemist Castle have access through those portals. No more 2v1 on a defenders home turf. (STOP, don’t nay say until you have reviewed the reasons for this)
Reason One: This keeps more focus on battling in EB than in the Borderlands prior to first control of Stonemist Castle being established since no one will be able to invade the other territories due to no portal access. This would make pockets of fighting easier to find with everyone on the same map. (Quite a few threads stating people having issues with the lack of enemy contact with everyone spread all over the place)
Reason Two: A controlling server now has some choices to make: Stay and defend their newly ill gotten gains. Split their force into two or three smaller forces to defend as well as take one or two of the other borderlands. Yes, same as before but there will be a noticeable difference, they have the reward of not worrying about defending their homeland as their portal will not allow access for the other two Borederlands to invade unless they first seize control of Stonemist castle.
If they split their force into two to defend and attack one of the Borderlands, the Third Borderland will focus on retaking EB as they cannot invade through the Second or First Borderlands gates. if they focus on a two Borderland front, they may spread themselves very thin and chance being overrun in smaller groups, as the Second or Third Borderlands won’t be sidetracked by making stabbing strikes into each others territories. (Yes, I am capitalizing First Second and Third as well as Borderland in an attempt to show proper nouns instead of adding specific server names as example, forgive me)
Reason Three: An invaded server has only to focus on pushing the First Borderland out without losing territory to the Third as well. With the Third Borderlands forces being barred from entry through the portal, that leaves less forces to sweep up in clearing out the enemy.
Reason Four: This should keep night capping down to being focused on EB, or in the least only dealing with one night capping server at a time, the one currently in control of Stonemist Castle. (Spoils to the victor)
In essence, a forced treaty is imposed on the Second and Third Borderlands, although in EB all is fair game.
In my opinion, and I’m sure everyone will have their own view on this, not having the opportunity to invade an unbreachable Borderland will cut the choices to be made, assisting in more focused groupings towards the main objectives.
This will cut out on Borderland Three hitting Borderland Twos territory after Borderland One has pillaged it, and sucker punching the beaten server for easy points.
Two servers keeping pressure on the oppressive Goliath server may just help balance WvW out.
Now I am not fooling myself into thinking this will knock out the night capping “issue” or correct server pop imbalances, but it may give the underdogs a fighting chance.
Also, this is just a base idea, I have not take into account for WvW game mechanics in any way. World exploration may and completion may be a little more difficult as your server will have to take StoneMist Castle at some point to allow your population to explore other Borderlands. Etc Etc and so on.
I appreciate your time in reading my idea, I apologize if this idea has been brought to light before but it is a large forum and I do not wish to explore it all to make sure I haven’t posted a “Johnny come lately”.
Tweaks and constructive feedback is welcomed and appreciated. The purpose of this post is NOTto “Fix” WvW or “Make It More Fun”. Those views differ from player to player. I a, merely searching for a way to hopefully push the odds in our favor for more frequent encounters without having to traverse each and every map to do so, with a possible result of a renewed interest in WvW for those who have left.
Thank you,
Daemonne
P.S. if you just view it as a wall of text then the topic probably didn’t interest you enough to review the details. :-)
Et doesnt seem to have the issues with numbers that people have complained about I watched a 30+ man zerg on at a time when neither of the other 2 servers had 10 on the map. The ET zerg managed to take 1 tower and 2 camps and then lost them within 10 mins. This ET zerg spent at least 15 mins chasing our 3 man XOXO group around and failing to log any kills and getting us 20 stacks on our sigils. They chose to chase u instead of taking an unguarded Bay.
The more I play against ET the more I realize it isn’t solely a numbers issue. Running from even number fights, chasing small groups with 30 man zergs, and making no effort to use their players in an efficient manner to gain more points.
Your server could have twice its current population and without upgrading the quality of players you will always be bottom bracket server.
That’s what happens when the majority (not all, ET has some good players) transfer off to servers they feel will help them shine. They don’t want to work for the win, they prefer to join a server that will hand it to them.
Any server can have the numbers for large zergs at least one time period of the day. Keeping those numbers throughout the 24 hr period or even 6 – 8 of those hours is an entirely different thing though which tends to deal break the whole ET keeping what they kill.
When I played alot, I rarely even log now, the morality that would lend to people actually upgrading everything died when we would log in later and find that everything that was upgraded was taken freely without any kind of fight overnight when the numbers dwindled.
You get stuck in the quicksand and sink deeper and deeper, and others who don’t want to get stuck with you move on to a safe location..ie any other server.
From the posts I’ve read over the past months, the people who transfer to ET are looking for a server that has easy to find fights. I don’t think I’ve seen many incoming transfers talk about how they are here to turn it all around and move up.
/frustration
I love how people point and say “your ZERG this” and Because your HUGE ZERG that" blah blah blah.
For people who have been in huge zergs, have you actually seen the zerg sit and spam “Hey come join our zerg so we can roll over everything all night”?
I know the ones I end up in just have more and more people roll up in it. Mass gathers more mass like there was a gravitational pull.
Anybody ever tried to get a zerg to split when it isn’t consisting of organized guilds?
Which pugger is going to say “okay, i’ll leave this happy fun ball and break out on my own hoping others will follow me so that I don’t become bag bait for that small but oh so noble 5 man group running around stomping solos”
When you are a server consisting of not many organized WVW guilds, zergs happen. People group up because they don’t generally have small groups to run with. Running solo is tantamount to suicide on the most part.
In SFs case, they have so many WVWrs that the zergs you see running around ARE their “small” groups.
I never cease to be amazed when people complain about how unfair things get in games with WAR situations.
Sorry Asia, we here in Australia cannot possibly contend with all the troops you can throw at us so we’re going to have to ask you to only use 1/50th of your available resources and only in 5 map groups because we really don’t want to be conquered easily.
Yeah, how’s that workin for ya?
Now back to your regularly scheduled bickering.
Tonight we ran about 18 players and got our kitten handed to us a few times by a 40-50 man zerg on ET. In that footage my guild was about 23 of us and we pretty much killed your zergs alone.
40-50 man zerg on ET
Aha. What.
i know… that’s a pretty good question… i’ve only seen that many of us together once or twice. usually we’re lucky to top 30
From my experience large numbers on low tier servers almost always starts with guild groups. PUGs will gravitate to them, and then you get the 30-50 mans. FC has some impressive coordination, but when I see their largest groups coming at me its usually many of the same tag(s), with just as many pugs sprinkled in.
I love fighting FC because they don’t back down, they ball up and push, it is something I am trying to ignite in our own server identity. We got the zergball (stack up, might up, blah blah) mentality, but we don’t have the “all or nothing” drive just yet, but hopefully it will come. When that first wave of DPS/stun or whatever hits us we tend to lose the “stack” and get spread out. ET rarely stacks (only from what I have saw, again not trying to be negative), but your spread out groups further break apart when pushed.
ET by in large still seems like a militia (random groups with little “built-in” cohesion), I do not say that to be negative, so please take no offense, you guys are still fighting so that says something. A few times over the weekend I would have my guys/gals stack up on me, and I could tell right away by the ET response what type of group you guys had. SF is like ET in terms of organization at times, it all just comes with time and repetition.
FC was the first T8 server to really start with the zergball tactics, I remember I used to come across WZ in the dredge practicing on it way back in the glicko ghetto days. Then came the VK guys and it kinda steamrolled from there.
From what I recall, I would have to say your thoughts on ET being mostly “militia” would stem from all the guild exodus’ we’ve seen.
Decent guilds would come, wreck face, get called out for heading up HUGE zergs, then move on to another server in either frustration or because the call for server stacking had come across and they felt like joining.
Unless things have changed since I’ve taken a break, ET does not have the “guild presence” en masse as other servers do.
No offense taken or given King, just my thoughts on the subject as usual :-)
don’t bother reporting, the noobs probably already figured out the rewards for killing the same people magically disappear after about 3 kills
Which would be a valid point except the pic seems to show what looks like 4 on each side so they are most likely rotating kills, which in turn will keep them in exp and points for quite some time.
drama on the borderlands, bluebell? bummer
i’m still having fun, when i can play. bad connection this weekend… hope its fixed soon…, AND i’m at work.
Slingshot ranger FTW.
How can you post that image of Chuck???? You realize an entire nation DIED from that one thumbs up gesture!!!?!!?!?
So when LS is used on an opponent, what and how much does it do.
Example: Lets say I hit a guardian with 10 stacks of might and a speed boon.
Does it grab 1 of the might stacks and the speed boon or 2 stacks of might or the complete 10 stacks and the speed boon? (Does stacks of boons count as one boon?)
Does it give the Thief the base amount of time for the boons stolen or do they get any boon duration increasements (sp?) that the guardian may have had through traits/Runes etc?
If they get the guardians boon duration increasements from the stolen boons, would that stack with any boon duration bonuses that the Thief may have? (if the thief was so inclined to have boon duration runes etc.)
This thread is to just gain an understanding of the attack, not to criticize it or qq about it.
Thanks
Daem.
@lowfreq -
You’ll never hear a Thief admit that their class actually has some strong abilities. The only reason they’re part of the unholy-trinity (along with Mesmers and Guardians) is that they’re all really, really skilled players or that everyone else just needs to L2P.
Keep this in mind before posting in the future, thanks.
Keep in mind that really really skilled players still use the top 3 classes, you want to show me a really really skilled player, hand them the worst class and have them come out top player every time.
S i t u a t i o n a l A w a r e n e s s
I saw Badges of DisHonor in the title and thought… Badges received while in a ZERG should be “Dishonor Badges”
Question on LS, does stealing a boon consider multiple stacks of might as ONE boon or will it only steal up to 2 stacks at a time?
IMO, it should only steal (on stack-able boons) up to 2 stacks a shot.
Some very nice and helpful responses. Thank you all for being helpful and not trollish like I see in a lot of other places.
I will be pleased to be steamrolled by you all in PvP as I learn the ropes.
@ Harrier
My idea was meant to apply to serious tournament play, i.e. e-Sports aspect of things; two threads down GW2 PvP is being described as a “visual cluster****” and I completely agree. For a number of reasons (that I’m sure you can think of on your own… probably) that’s not a good state of affairs.
Honestly, if an idea benefits the quality and future of the game and the entire community (and it would – see hero models in LoL, Dota 2, TF2, etc. – there’s a reason you don’t have hundreds of models per hero/class), I think you puking and leaving the game will be something… we’ll just have to try and live with, I guess?
How can you say this would benefit the “entire community” then discount his view of hte idea?
He is part of the “community” you say to be representing.
Thank you both

So, I’m a bit bored of the zerginess of WvW, I’m staring off at my tv while farming Orr events….tell me about PvP
I’m not really looking for a team to join up with, I’m more curious about the Hot Join and what it is.
Forgive me for not just jumping in and finding out, but I’m at work and felt like making a thread to ask about it all.
I don’t see a Sticky Thread offering a description of the PvP aspect to us sPvP/tPvP newbies, although the list of helpers is pretty nice.
First off what’s the difference between sPvP and tPvP?
Are there better and worse builds for PvP (when I say PvP I’m leaving out the WvW aspect completely.) I play Guardian and Mesmer mostly.
I have seen the term Bunker Build many times, are these just the toughness builds that stick around and defend whatever is supposed to be defended in PvP?
Mainly, what are the PvP Faux Pas? What am I going to get yelled at by doing or not doing? I would prefer to have some understanding of the etiquette involved before kitten ing too many people off as the one thing that makes me not want to take part is over indulged elitist jackals ruining the experience because a new person is trying to learn.
Anyhow, thanks for any helpful advice/hints etc.
Lot of people focusing on ‘Illusion of Life kills you if you don’t get a kill by the time it runs out’
The OP isn’t contesting that fact, they want to know where the number 223k is coming from.
Don’t be a bunch of elitist d-wads and help the OP understand.
Wiki doesn’t explain about the numbers at all, just that it returns you to a ‘downed state that may result in a defeated state’
If anybody knows where the 223k number is coming from great, if not then quit coming off like it’s some special short bus society secret that you are only allowed to hint at.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
I play WvW. If I wanted to PvP I would go play in that sandbox. This is large scale war fare, World vs. World with objectives and strategy. I don’t go take troops to go kill stragglers. I try to stop them from doing it, not that many of them bother to listen. It’s a waste of resources and takes away from our goal at hand. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about the fights. I fight with with an actual purpose in mind. Not to just jack some random kid for lunch money because he happened to be in my way. I don’t play this game like a punk kitten.
Personally, I laugh my butt off when I read about people want 5 man groups. or small man groups, but don’t sPvP, they go to wvw. I mean really, Anet builds an entire system just for small group battles and people run off to WvW wanting small group battles? What the? Seriously, like What the?
I mean if they were talking “small group battles” to mean 20 vs 20, like they do on the upper tiers, then I could see where they are coming from, guilds like Agg, and VK, now moved up to where they belong, were “small group” but, they were still in the 10 – 15 range for a “small group” which is way too large for sPvP, but when you see people go Oh we do 5 man small groups" for WvW you have got to question why, and the only real answer you can come up with, is their small group can’t really handle other small groups like sPvP teams that do the same thing. So they go to WvW to kill the random soloer and feel all mighty about themselves. And we are supposed to do anything more then laugh and sigh at this kind of antic.
Meh, anyway, no big either way, They need to camp a soloer because that is all they can handle, then that is.. what is.
Clearly you have ZERO idea where we are coming from. That’s ok, its a 100 step ladder and you are around rung 5 in the “tiering” of pvp skill.
Edit: So I don’t just come off as a “hater” I will reiterate something for you, PAXA actually enjoys FIGHTING good to better players than ourselves. We challenge ourselves against large numbers, but have more fun fighting small groups of equal or better personal skill. We have no interest in PPPTTTT or whatever you guys call it. We picked up GW2 because it’s the closest open world platform to DAOC in 5-7 years. We are here to compete daily, not socialze, PPPTTT, or “gank solos” lol.
I love reading smack talk by T8 players as they try to sound good, to use a sports analogy, it’s like watching people brag about their badminton skills, I can’t bring myself to be impressed no matter how hard I try.
Even a last place sports team can have players who shine.
Anet,
Please consider this post my whine against needing to do any real “work” to obtain ascended gear for WvW.
That being said, I now feel that since I have put the effort into making this whine post in this thread, I should now get my ascended gear for free.
Thank You,
Joe Complainer.

Small 5 man strike teams are quite useful in WvWvW other than jsut “punking” some straggler.
I’ve been pummeled by PAXA on a few occasions, trying to catch up to my group or responding to a supply camp that has been flipped. My fault for not being in a huge zerg when coming across them? Not really, although I have joined many a zerg I am of the mind that PAXA has it completely correct.
Their 5 mans flip camps as well as decimating loners, small groups and their outmanned targets alike.
While I see many people pushing all the time to take SM for that chest thumping feeling, its the server holding 13- 14 supply camps that always catches my attention and makes me think…there’s where all the points are wracking up from. A mere 7 enemy camps will balance out any SM gain with less cost to siege and repair.
Also PAXA flipping a camp always baits 2 – 3 puggers (knowledge from personal experience) who think “hey we can flip that back pretty quick and move on”, but nope, there’s PAXA. Maybe I can take out that straggler….jump. BAM, crap there’s the rest of them.
Covering your teammates flank is what teamwork is about, not letting some loner like myself go one on one in a World domination environment.
I applaud PAXA and quite frankly wish I had the patience and resources to be in a similar group. I blame being married and having a 16mo old who demand my time and can pull me away from the game at a moments notice :-)
Edit: Why are people kittening about a 5 man group jumping a soloer anyway? This is WvW, a med to large group environment according to a lot of the posts Im reading. Why are you running around SOLO anyways?
It sounds like people just want to assign blame to their own failings.

It’s awesome when I am using my farming specc in ORR

or
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARWlYgqCXGyIEfYFRuA7DAsSR8uHmCNmxrCUE
depending if I want more precision
Activating Virtue of Justice will not only Burn but stacks of Might as well as applying an AOE Blind which in turn also adds an AOE Vulnerability (3 stacks also add Vuln from Symbols I get about 10 – 15 stacks depending how long foes are in my symbol of Wrath) and to top it all off, each time a foe dies, VoJ resets.
Run up to a group, Binding Blade, pull them in with BBs secondary, Symbol of Wrath (Retal + AOE Vuln)(Writ of Exaltation makes sure all foes will fit within symbol), Leap of Faith (activating an AOE Blind (activating 3 stacks of AOE Vuln) VoJ (Burn, AOE Blind/AOE Vuln) Whirling Wrath (against a group of foes that now have about 12-15 stacks of Vulnerability on them)
This tends to waste the blind a bit, but with the inital burst of damage you are going to drop at least one foe, resetting VoJ for another Burn/AOE Blind/Vuln
When skills are on CD, I will swap to Staff or Hammer (whichever I have equipped as my secondary) and wreck house until the swap CD is up and repeat.
There are quite possibly better setup, but I enjoy this as I tend to be able to use all of my skills making the fight more enjoyable than spamming just 2 keys.
Would still like to see ranks in Reviving.
1% increased speed in reviving per rank up to 5 ranks.
What do you want to do with the build? Farm Dungeons? AOE farm ORR events?
I use http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARWlYgqCXGyIEfIFRuA7DAs6R8un9wUoxMC
or
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJARWlYgqCXGyIEfYFRuA7DAsSR8uHmCNmxrCUE
for AOE farming ORR events pretty much use MF gear and do pretty well.
Edit: Recently swapped out staff for Hammer as second weapon. I have never gotten into trying out the scepter/focus. not my playstyle.
