I don’t disagree with you Prysin (very eloquently written by the way). But I think Anet has provided us with their vision.

Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.

I think that’s a pretty clear vision statement for the class. It’s just the reality doesn’t match the game play.

Anet also stated, that Warriors should have a hard time against conditions …

If you are still here, lurking, can you and the developers please sit down and write a official statement as to what YOU envision the ranger to be.
Yes, Mr Peters, or i think it was him, did state it was intended by all purposes to be “The Pet Profession” however it is very clear that it does not fulfill this role appropriately. This has been stated so many times by now that the developers also should have noticed the blatant lack of pet performance.

What i wish for, is for ArenaNet LLC to make a proper official statement, as to their goals (Not your ongoing projects) for the ranger profession as a whole. What do you guys and gals think the ranger profession should excel at.
Why should you write such a statement?
Because we, the players, can make a billion suggestions, however we can make a billion suggestions suggesting something that completely contradicts you guys vision, and as thus, the vast majority of these suggestions will not be very helpful to you, nor us.

So in order to be as constructive, specific and thematically correct as possible, we, the players, should be presented with some official guidelines as to what you, the developers, want the profession to evolve into.
This is not a single skill, this is an entire profession we are looking at. Going at it without any proper guidelines to work with will only result in a pile of suggestions asking for power creeps and “make this into a warrior+guard+ele+thief with pet profession”.

Tell us what you want, and we shall in return tell you what we want.

Thank you for this kind sir! However, i feel this is necessary for all classes.

As Allie promised, I’m here to update the thread one more time before it returns to the depths. Thanks everyone for participating and having a civil conversation, relevant to the topic. Here’s a few more changes we’ll be including for the next feature build:
Elementalist:
Cleansing Water: This trait no longer has an internal cooldown while in PvP.
Meteor Shower: Updated the skill fact to display the increased endurance regeneration while the player has the Zephyr’s Focus trait. Added a red ring to indicate area of effect for enemy players. Added a white ring for allied players.
Engineer:
We’ve fixed a lot of turret issues that were causing them to behave poorly or inconsistently (many of these issues have been reported via the bug forums, thanks guys!) In the coming patch, you’ll see quite a few improvements in this area. For example:
• Fixed the bug that was causing all turrets to have a lower rate of fire than intended.
• Fixed the bug that was preventing the overcharge for the Rifle Turret from increasing its rate of fire.
Guardian:
This one is more of a bug fix, but will help out nonetheless:
Searing Flames: This trait now activates only if the target has a boon on them. Necromancer:
Fixed the bug which caused your heal/utility skills to be locked out when you exit deathshroud.

Ranger:
Ranger pets are receiving a responsiveness pass and will be much easier to command. For example: Activating your F2 skill will now break your pet out of its current action in order to execute that ability.

Yep still using that build but ill be honest I rarely have a reason to play necro when i have more fun and can be more useful with my other 6 classes.

this was done in 3 sec, gl dodging all that aoe while being feared non stop

condis can burst as fast as direct dmg if not faster

worse, the amount of condi comming from some AA (hello scepter necros) is simply absurd; i rolled that build for funzies on my necro, i killed ppl with AA alone….skill yo

riiight 83 hits of bleed in 3 seconds. if youre going to argue against any meta you at least cant lie about obvious pieces of evidence.

Pretty bad evidence. It doesn’t show how many opponent he had nor what was the damage after he went down. Pointless whine until video capture. And perception is tricky.

So the necro is like a car with 3 wheels and is fine if you have it on the “3 wheeled car championship”, but on a serious race, it just … bad.

edit: If the mobs EHP will change (higher armor, lower hp), condi players dps will be improved actually.

edit2: Rampager should be on par with dps with Berserker (after a tweak, main precision stat is just stupid), because its the other set full of offensive stats, but that lacks the oomph.

In WvW you have a lot of control and damage just from staff alone (jeez, that weapon is awesome) and with an enormous 1200 range you are far from the danger. Solo roaming also possible with double dagger, but correct me if im wrong.
For PvE i would check out the ele guides by DEKeyz.

i tried leveling a ele at level 10 and went up against 3 level 8 mobs they just destroy me hands down while i did not even manage to even attack them so i am thinking i must be doing something wrong with it

I already had experience in the game when i made the ele, so it made the process easier, but with the right weapons (aka staff) pve leveling is faceroll.

Ele is fine in WvW, awesome in PvE and low tier in PvP.
Necro is more than fine in WvW, unviable in PvE and still in a good spot in PvP.

Leveling the classes isn’t hard. Necro is forgiving, ton of aoe and fun. Ele on the other hand is more like a nuclear bomb. You just run in and stuff dies. Well, at least with a staff it was easy for me.
As a side note, leveling a mesmer is a nightmare. My most horrible leveling experience in this game so far and i have all 8 professions.

No they arent terrible. My guilds old fractal 80 team ran with a condi necro because it was needed for dredge.

And what was he for?

Weakness. But currently Skale venom consumable is a better option.

guardian’s judges intervention does work with fgs, you just have to be quick.

also mesmer really shouldn’t take fgs, they have terrible dmg modifiers and you miss out on a lot higher fgs ticks from a stronger dps class by giving the gs to a mesmer. of course, in places where it’s needed for mobility mesmer should take it, and mesmer is also one of the classes with a blink.

Wouldn’t Empowering mantras help? Ofc they would be still behind Ele, Thief and Guardian.

Rangers also rely heavily on pets. Utility and huge chunk of dps comes from the pet. If you take it away (permanent stow), you just go around a class mechanic, making it useless, along with a whole traitline, but Arena net already did this with necro, so i dont see a true problem. Sword auto is also clunky as hell and annoying.

Ele is just squishy and requires a decent group, to not melt after a few seconds, but at least they provide heavy offensive support via dps, fire fields and might / fury stacking.
Fixing FGS (alongside with every “gap closer” to require a target) will cause an inevitable drop out from the meta, especially if Anet manage to fix the 1 attunement problem. Ele shouldnt sit in only one attunement to be effective.

Agree on necro. And some improvement across the board with conditions would be nice to see, since its a big problem against players too.

When i first seen videos from TESO i was like yaaaaay alpha footage! And i realized from the article that is close to release actually … so i avoid it like plague. It’s just a really low budget, low quality Skyrim multi. With a sub …D So thanks, but no.

Wildstar will need a sub as well as far as I know

I don’t care about to play Wildstar, mainly because of NCSoft. But it looks decent, it worth the attention after release.

Sorry if this was answered in some recent topic.
If you need to use a conjure weapon, be it the greatsword or the ice bow, what class should use the other one? Assuming they using meta / competitive builds.
Thief and Ele has the most damage modifiers, so i think they are the top 2 (and thief got a built in teleport for FGS), how about the others?

Rangers were picked for the CDI because their class has issues across the board – the class itself is clunky. Eles are incredibly strong in pve and struggling in pvp – necros are fine in pvp but absolutely bottom tier in pve. When people talk about balancing or fixing necros its almost always in a pve context.

Thats true. The class was advertised as an attrition, sustain class (at least from a pvp staindpoint), but Anet failed to achieve this goal. Build diversity or the lack off is a big problem across the board and our general role is non-existent. Also as you mentioned too, our viability in PvE is bad. Not only not optimal, bad, unviable, bottom tier etc.
We share the problems as every condi build in the game, every AI problem is matter to us, our class mechanic is weird and need to be look at and the balance should be move towards both gamemodes, not spvp only.
Every class has problems in some way, but necro is one of the most problematic ones.

ps: If the new CDI about fixing rangers ends well with good feedback from Anet and it will take effect in a reasonable time, we have hope. Until then … crossfingers brothers and sisters, that things wont broke even more.

Switching to anything else from necro is still a boost to any group, since other classes can provide meaningful buffs to the party, while the necro is just a big bag of dps.
Even engi is better, they can keep up vulnerability and give aoe might. :/

tl;dr
Everything is fine OP unless you want to do some more serious dungeon / fractal running. If you do, avoid these kind of groups with necro.

I faced a necro that with one auto-attack of his scepter put weakness, 3 stacks of bleed, burning and torment.

So you didn’t even realized that the necro used Death shroud to put torment on you because you know … scepter don’t have that.

I’m seriously fed up with these misinformed non-skilled whiners on this forum about necromancers. Learn to play. Dude.

Luckily a new upcoming MMO is going to be released, perhaps that company does listen, time will tell.

If you talk about Wildstar, mind you it has the same publisher as GW2, NCSoft.

Funny how pathetic AI is in gw2.

Technically, it was worse during release since ai was so aggro you could have half of orr wanting to kill you, but the problems with that setup was more minion pathing then not working well with em attacking, which wasnt as much of a problem in GW1 since pathing was very universal. Thus any ai fixes aint as much actual script behaviour but more model, collision and hitbox detection (aka engine problems).

TLDR: Minion ai didnt get worse, but engine is terrible at hitbox and model detection.

Still worse than Z category cheap korean MMO-s … =]

Every class has it’s issues, but guardian is the most stable and balanced since beta. I didn’t say it’s perfect, without any bug / problem, it’s just fine, which isn’t true for 6 of 8 classes.
At least they have a very definied role and are viable without cheesy builds.

even tho this class is good (in a bad way) in a lot of game modes

the concept is bad. passive sustain is bad, being able to facetank stuff passively is bad, also this class doesnt have any useful utilities except pure states buffs and selfish stances, physics utilities are just bad and no one ever use it in all game mode(except bullcharge).

Basically, I want people to think ‘what class would I never play right now because it’s just not viable' and list the top 3. That goes for all game types.

An actual teleport by the Flesh wurm that works in the Z axis more reliably would be a great change and general pathing issues of course, but thats not a necro only problem.
Maybe a tooltip fix about projectile finishers on minions would be nice if they run out of actual balance stuff.

How will you handle the multiple voting by people?
People voting for only one or two profession won’t affect the whole CDI in a negative way towards other classes? Lessen chances to get looked at you know.
How will you filter the answer from players who misunderstood your question and didn’t vote for “underpowered” professions?
How will it affect your attention towards the top 3 classes get voted?

All of you have no idea what you are talking about! balance is sorta okay even though it needs bugfixes, all i see is people asking to nerf the classes they have problems to fight against. Only thing thats really not ok with the game atm is warrior’s signet but arena shoud be careful nerfing warrior cause of the easily evadeable weapon and utility skills he has.

And i think that one third of people voted for ranger as a #1, because they are so OP they need a nerf …

Agree with the above comments, but i want to ad that Deathly strenght is not a bad trait, it’s just another really boring and uninspired GM minor trait. No insulting, but a flat damage increase indirectly is meh. Especially that we have traits like this at every GM minor slot …

edit: apparently every class suffers from this except in a few cases. Oh well, daily fail achieved.
