Well I thought about that, but I realized it probably wouldn’t be a very effective anti-bot method. A lot of botting is done in the same place on multiple stolen accounts.

Who’s going to have an easier time forming a 5 man loot group anywhere he wants to? An honest player out in the world or a “hacker” with a whole slew of bots?

Please rethink loot groups

in Suggestions

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

The idea of getting more loot in a group and encouraging cooperation is a good one, but it has had some nasty side effects:

  • Before Lost Shores the only place to find a loot group was in Cursed Shore
  • Most other zones became useless to even set foot in
  • If other zones had good farming opportunities, we never knew because it was impossible to form a loot group in them
  • Spending a lot of time around penit/shelt LFGing despite that being one of the main things GW2’s open world dynamic PvE was supposed to prevent
  • After Lost Shores even Cursed Shore became hard to form a group in
  • Hours spent solo killing enemies in Southsun has yielded very few drops

Before release in an interview about endgame, developers mentioned that unlike most MMOs the endgame in GW2 shouldn’t have to be different than the rest of the game. You shouldn’t have to play a different game from the one you played leveling up to 80.

However, this has never been the case. The end game options have always been Cursed Shore or dungeons and now its leaning toward just dungeons.

I have tried really hard to find open world ways to make even half as much money as CS farming and dungeons, but I’ve failed everywhere else I go. The entire time I wonder if the profits wouldn’t be so bad if I had a full group following me around. I’ve never been able to form one and I shouldn’t have to.

Now GW2 has a robust trading post which means a lot of profit comes from trading with players. Due to the laws of supply and demand much of the prices and profits come from the material cost of high demand high level items and the supply of the most common/efficient methods of procuring those items in materials. In other words, the ‘cost of living’ (so to speak) gravitates around the most effective farms.

In order to keep up with the latest gear, each player needs to pull in gold at a rate comparable to which the market is based. It doesn’t have to be equal, just comparable. By that I mean, even 50% might be acceptable. The problem is the market gravitation is based on loot groups. A dungeon is a loot group and so is a group farming in Cursed Shore. We’re not just looking at the most efficient farm, we’re looking at the most efficient farm IN A GROUP.

The gap between dungeons and open world PvE is further increased by groups.

Little example chart here:

[Fractals of the Mists group]
^
|
[“Cost of living”]
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
V
[Southsun solo farmer]

It kind of creates a sort of negative snowball effect where low profits caused by the lack of available loot groups lessens the population in a zone, in turn that makes the ability to form a loot group in that zone even less possible. Without forming a loot group you get very few drops and it becomes very difficult and not in the least bit fun to achieve the gear and materials you desire.

Currently the only solution is to not play those zones. To not play the way you want to, but instead just to do what everyone else is doing. Granted, there is a lot more contributing to this than mere loot groups, but I feel they play a significant role in the gap between open world PvE and dungeons. Making one endgame a much higher percentage better than another endgame.

Currently the difference between solo and full loot groups can sometimes be compared to the difference between “very little” and “a lot.”

I’m not saying we take loot groups down to “very little” I’m saying we take solo up to “a lot.”

Think about how much better the world would get if solo loot was buffed in such a way:

  • You could play the way you want to and still get rewarded for it
  • You can run across strangers at big events and be happy to see them for their aid in combat rather than worrying about the need for them seeing and accepting your LFG
  • You could take a day off from dungeons without taking a day off from the game
  • You could go check out some new scenery and not be wasting time financially
  • You could take pride in the fact that you just soloed an event and have more to show for it than 1.3s and two salvage items
  • You would have an honest chance at a reward from all the effort you put into soloing a tough veteran enemy
  • Zones can begin to repopulate as the lack of drops would not drive people out of them so quickly
  • You have other ways to make money when misdirected elitism prevents you from joining a dungeon group
  • You have other ways to make money when low population days prevent you from filling a dungeon group

In summary: I’m proposing that the loot for soloing be brought closer to the loot for groups as to reduce the market/cost gap between isolated content (dungeons, cursed shore stationary events) and open world PvE thereby making zones like Southsun and Frostgorge more enjoyable and worth doing.

Missing kill credit on bosses

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I’ve also noticed that bosses tend to “focus fire” that they often have the effect of singling a player out that they don’t want to receive kill credit on.

Some bosses have some pretty brutal 1 hit kill moves that can be hard to dodge, and they like to use them on the same person over and over again even after they’ve rezzed at a WP and returned.

No credit for “taking one for the team” either.

Failing to recieve kill credit

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I’m just going to make a list here:

1. Not getting kill credit on veterans in areas where a lot of people are unless:

  • If I’m in a group I can toss 2000-4000 damage on it then stop, any more and I risk losing credit
  • If I’m not in a group I need to consistently throw all of my skills and my highest DPS on the veteran for a CHANCE at kill credit
EXCEPTION: Veteran Risen Spiders seem to work fine for me

2. Not getting kill credit on some “trash” mobs in overcrowded events even if I do 3000+ damage

3. Not getting kill credit on some of the normal karkas on a level 32 upscaled warrior in the new zone despite doing a lot of damage

4. Getting kill credit on the first part of all veteran karkas, but not getting credit or loot for the second part (after they regen their health)

I can get credit on champions easily without doing much damage, but I have a lot of trouble with veterans

Anyone else having troubles with this?

NOTE: Most gameplay done on a level 80 ranger with Moa pets.

Missing kill credit on bosses

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I was doing TA last night playing ranger with a longbow at the vine part in the beginning and when the giant vine popped out of the ground I supported the team by taking the attention of the deadly projectiles that it and its adds throw. I also helped by shooting down the adds.

When the boss died I did not receive kill credit from it and missed out on my chance for unique items and my bag of wondrous goods.

I was wondering if anyone else was having kill credit issues on any of the other dungeon bosses?

I know the best way to get kill credit would have been to shoot the boss itself directly more, but I feel like what I was doing was very helpful to the team and shooting at the boss would have only slowed the add killing down.

new build !?

DarkWasp.7291

This new build will bring in the Lost Shores; the islands that we’ll be fighting over, it’ll be detailing what we have to do and how to combat the troubles hitting the isle. It’s set to bring in the features of ‘guesting’, ‘guild halls’ and balances PvP perfectly by replacing every skill you have in PvP with a skill named ‘splash’, although what the skill will do is yet to be determined.

Splash – Guardian – Become permanently invulnerable and still able to attack
Splash – Warrior – Unlocks ALL weapon types for use and doubles damage
Splash – Ranger – Reduces run speed by 50%, pet goes to attack a random Champion
Splash – Necro – Drain life from yourself
Splash – Theif – Instant self-death upon attacking an invulnerable target
Splash – Mesmer – Spawn 20 clones, become untargetable, win sPvP match if attacked by AoE
Splash – Ele – Unlimited mist form, speed increased by 300%
Splash – Engineer – If you are rendered on an enemy’s screen they become permanently knocked down

Edit: Aw man, candy corns, that’s it? I thought we were getting more updates leading up to Lost Shore

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

How is WvW not doable by all players?

If a server consistently gets dominated by the other 2 servers in its matchup, 100% world completion is not possible and badges can come in at a rate of 1-5 per day if you’re lucky.

Why doesn't the daily reward cover repair costs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

In normal PvE I agree that the repair costs are quite reasonable.

However in WvW its a further reason for losing servers to not even show up, and in dungeons its a penalty for not going elitist in your search for a group.

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I think legendaries are totally worth going for.

They actually don’t take all that long if you aren’t aiming for the super common expensive ones.

Even if you only do a little bit of Cursed Shore and/or a dungeon run a day.

And it’s not just about vanity, it’s about having something to work toward. They have a cool variety of tasks that you need to complete that would be pretty doable by all players if it weren’t for WvW.

Does anybody else feel like DE's to get your daily feel more like chores?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

It depends so much on your playstyle.

Endgamers/grinders/hardcores will get events very easily, but due to the fact that Orr is way more effective at making gold than other maps are, kill variety becomes the chore.

Dungeon runners get everything done quickly except for gathering.

Explorers and levelers can suffer trying to find events. Not just for the dailies, but for fun, profit and experience too.

Personally I think that without the need for loot groups (binding people to Cursed Shore because its the only place to maintain one) and better loot scaling, we could get the population to spread to the other maps a little more.

The "wave" (particle streak effect) creates a new world? -Sunrise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Basically what the sunrise and twilight do is create an effect that renders a skybox texture.

A skybox texture is basically an image of the sky that appears to move with the camera, much like the actual sky seems to do in real life. (For example if you stare at the moon from a car window, it seems to follow you all the way back home.)

The skybox texture rendered by the sunrise does not always match the one in the zone you are in. Interestingly it seems to keep the same sun position though.

So long story short, you aren’t really seeing anything through it. It’s just a different sky image with the same sun location.

As far as I know atleast.

LFM, level 80 only

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I’m kinda 50/50 on this.

On one hand I hate elitism, and I think it is the number one player based killer of coop in MMOs. It’s still relatively easy to find a dungeon group, but it may not be so in 4-6 months.

On the other hand I don’t enjoy PuGs for AC. (TA is usually pretty good though.) The thing about AC is, I kind of rely on that to be my 1.5 hour (give or take) daily deed. I don’t mind showing new players the ropes and I don’t ragequit out of groups that are doing bad, but I would like to do a few smooth runs too.

So while I don’t make level 80 a requirement while forming a group, I’m much more likely to join a group limited to level 80s if I’m given the option.

It’s not because of the stats of the characters, its because of the lower chance of first time dungeon runners being in the group.

The MMO community just isn’t used to dodge rolling, self healing and not rolling pure DPS melee characters. It takes a bit of dungeon experience for them to learn.

in Ranger

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

While I agree that it’s annoying losing control of your character, the ability to hang on your target needs to stay.

Maybe it could apply some sort of speed buff? This way people could do the whole target deselect trick manually (aka aim away instead of deselect) without “playing the UI.” (One of ArenaNet’s philosophies is to reduce playing the UI, but I’m not sure if they accounted for the deselect trick.)

For now I just feel like being able to dodge out would be good. And you may think its OP, but I’ve fought several other classes who can be invulnerable/evading/blinding/invisable/warping for 13 seconds out of a 15 second fight. So I don’t know if it would be too unfair to give rangers superior dodging abilities.

Also you have to consider PvE too. I find that making a viable melee weapon that can dodge away from big attacks in dungeons would be a serious boon to melee overall.

I could dodge out of auto attacks. Seriously think about it, it could be the one thing rangers have going for them in melee.

Thieves can hit big then run away really fast.
Warriors have heavy armor and do a lot of damage.
Rangers can dodge like crazy in melee range. If it worked correctly

It just makes sense. Unfortunately, you can’t interrupt auto attack for a dodge roll or one of the two evasion skills. This is a bug right?

Because right now 1h sword is actually the least dodgy weapon in the game. Every time you initiate an attack you’re making a commitment. While it does do a considerable amount of damage, it still doesn’t stand up to the raw damage warriors and thieves can put out, nor does it have a means of escape or survival.

They don’t necessarily have to think you’re a bot. It’s just that rezzing used to be such a habit in the game, and now with bots people are second guessing it in some scenarios. It kind of breaks the habit.

I personally rez bots if I’m not sure if it’s a bot or not. It’s running all day at maximum DR on loot, a couple minutes dead isn’t really going to hurt the owner. I get EXP.
