Once you get more than like 7-12 stacks of confusion in PvE, you’ll get insta downed no matter what your vitality is.
Well when asked for our top three, it’s hard to stoop down to the smaller more doable features.
I think the community is afraid it’d be like admitting the game is near perfect as it is and only needs minor changes.
I could go pages on how out of combat first person (for example) affects immersion, jumping puzzles, adds potential to dungeon puzzles and changes the way we look at armor or stop to smell the roses. How screenshots can be a lot like horizontal progression for people who like to collect the nicest views without their knee’s in the picture or bad angles.
HOWEVER
If I suddenly have to choose between that and player owned housing, a much larger feature content-wise, I’d have to side with housing.
Note: I use trading post flipping very very rarely.
Only about 100g of my assets came from investments.
However, I do recognize the potential. I just don’t like doing it. In EVE I made investments that could be turned immediately (I had a high level in the ability to break items down into mats). EVE had like 1% taxes making that possible, GW2 has 15%.
Fitting penalties for committing this criminal act:
1. Guild influence and upgrade wipes, angering their leader and having him show up at their front doors with a hatchet
2. An angel loses its wings
3. Precision airstrikes
4. Permabanned from the internet
5. Banishment to the moon, life support included if any of the world’s governments will donate money
6. Perma-banishment from Guild Wars 2 with all the involved party’s collective wealth transferred to the victim(s)
7. A dinner date with Scarlet
8. Trahearne
9. Agents who follow them around and bring crying babies to every theater they visit
10. An arrow in the knee
I’m still excited for the 2013 stuff that hasn’t happened yet.
Also I’m really hoping they seriously work on the stuff people are top-threeing in the Horizontal Progression thread.
Sword/Warhorn for Rangers
Sword/Axe :P (Unless you’re pugging and no one is granting fury)
GSs are indeed favored in the art design team.
As far as balance goes, GSs are easy but I think most good players sort of “graduate” from them and leave them behind. They tend to have some high damage skills (such as Hundred Blades or Maul) that are great to switch to, but only if you can switch back out in a timely manner and get back to your higher DPS weapons.
As far as those groups are concerned, they are just statistically avoiding trouble caused by people with their own level of skill screwing up the much more difficult classes.
[Warrior, Ranger, Ele, Mesmer, Guardian] groups can do those paths really fast, but with PuGs the chances of finding a 70% Frost Spirit ranger and a mesmer who doesn’t wait till 10% HP left on bosses to pop Time Warp are incredibly low.

I’m sort of floating between the 1000g – 1500g mark.
I’m not entirely sure where it keeps coming from but I know where it’s going. About 500g into gems in the past few months, maybe 300g into ascended crafting related stuff.
After The Queen’s Speech event I had about 1.3k and somehow I’ve kept balanced from that. Strangely my luck has been incredibly low too.
I guess just doing dailies and occasionally getting invited to do a bunch of dungeons, salvaging everything and selling the mats from time to time.
I have not champ farmed since before Tequatl.
Hmm this is tough, there’s a lot of great ideas.
Guess I’ll go with:
1. Player housing: I mean most of horizontal progression is collecting nice things right? Once we can’t fit any more on our bodies, it’d be nice to have something else to decorate.
2. More non-gem armors/clothes: Because gems aren’t all that horizontal. BONUS: Add out of combat first person zoom so we can more easily look-at/screenshot people in their nice new stuff.
3. Any sort of quest/hard mode/whatever that applies to solo content. I’ve been having a hard time finding stuff to do by myself. (Note: co-oping with randoms in open world still counts as solo content because we’re not tied together.)
I wish search in this forum would work, took me a while to find: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Vertical/3384259
Thanks, I didn’t see that when it was active.
The only thing I’m really seeing here that’s a bit off is his comment under “Pros”
- Repeatable time gates add “pressure” to log in which helps create possible reward loops and play patterns (I want to log in every day, which often can become play experiences, talk with friends, strengthen relationships and get players into a pattern of seeing what’s going on.)
I think this “pressure” can possibly create the difference between a permanent quit and a short break.
Last time I took a break from GW2 (or GW1) I had minimal ingame chores I had to keep up with and was able to pick up where I left off when I rejoined in. I felt completely refreshed and was able to enjoy the game almost like new when I came back.
Last time I took a break from EVE I was keeping up with market watching, missions and the final nail in the coffin came when I started logging in every X number of hours to refresh my planet mines. Even though I loved the game, the idea of returning brings a bit of anxiety so I haven’t done that yet if ever.
Granted they are two different games, but I think the “chore” idea transfers. When you’re logging in and playing the game without having fun, you’re shaving off your potential to come back later. If we otherwise possessed the willpower to ignore this “pressure” then we would be able to more accurately stop when we’re bored and come back when we’re ready to have fun again.
Counter-note: It was dailies that got me back into GW2 though. I felt ready to play again, but not quite enough to get established so I started leveling my engi slowly by doing dailies. Then I ended up talking to people and getting into dungeons again.
3 tries so I guess I got lucky.
Naw man, that’s totally how it normally goes.
I’m using a G500 now (older edition) and I can say that I love this mouse. However, since I like to have ALL of my skills on the mouse, if you were me I would suggest to you(me) to look into the G600 or Naga.
Toss them in that delusional/hopeful bank slot with all the ascended rings, bloodstone dust and items you left soulbound to a deleted character.
I got prepared for Wintersday a little early and posted these in a different thread so sorry if you’ve already seen them.
First two, getting ready.
Second two, actual shoot.
Looks like we’re all overthinking an underthought quote.
We’re all naked under our clothes, illusion or fabric.

So that’s the reason behind the weird running!
Yep, GW2 animators have no idea how to bone a mesh -_-
Aside from the recent bug with female running, the animations in this game have been pretty superb.
- As race discrimination is an important issue, consider a proposal to make all racial skills unlocked to all races, but gated by territory-context “quests” (hearts and dynamic events). Yes, this would come at the cost of some distinction between races, but let me ask you: which distinction exists now, when those skills are underwhelming and no one uses them? Let me ask another question: what is better for world immersion, underwhelming skills gated by race, or appealing skills obtained from exploring the world? Under mathematical terms, there would be more potential for world immersion if all races could obtain them (1. Because it would add less restriction for balance, and thus players would actually use and “feel” them, and 2. because they could be tied to territory and thus add personality to each map) than not (because it would remove race distinction, which barely even exists at the current place for the sake of race balance). Two points against one in favor of racial skills be made available to all races. But let me ask a third question: World immersion aside, how fun would it be to all players in GW2, if suddenly they had 24 (!!) new skills to try out, and 30 new skills (by including the racials they already had) buffed to become stronger? I can tell right now that I would personally love it, and make the gameplay a lot more refreshing, while Anet wouldn’t even need to design 24-30 new skills for this single purpose: they are already there. Anet would have to rebalance them and design “quests” for each of them, though.
This is a terrible idea.
Racial skills add to uniquness and make my race choice matter. I don’t play a sylvari to watch it summon charr warband or draw hidden pistol. I play a sylvari so even in burned ashford plains i can bring the power of nature into the fight!
Tying it into given map makes me feel like i’m the map’s she-dog and not master of my own fate, walking down my own path.
Not to mention how ridicilous it would look lore-wise:
- charr warshipping human gods (to use human racials)
- sylvari morphing into animals (while they’re plants)
- asura becoming “9 feet tall!” when doing same
- norn who aren’t into science using radiation fields and golems…oh wait they can do that via runes…yikes!
You want to make racials on pair with normal profession skills – i absolutely agree, more power to you if you do. But if you want to make them a communistic “if you have it so should everybody else, only on our terms” then i say “HELL NO!”
I’ve never liked racial skills because they can create that effect of: I created a human ranger, but a sylvari skill actually works so well with rangers that I have to consider rerolling.
Of course this doesn’t actually happen in GW2, but it could if the racials were buffed to be useful.
Instead I would prefer if they were replaced with profession PvE only skills (that even don’t work in WvW).
As I mentioned in the previous thread, a lot of us really signed up for this because we liked what we heard pre-release about open world. (Well that and being GW1 fans.) So we would like to see more rewards and options to get us back on those maps again.
Stuff like:
- DE rewards revamped
- A brand new set (or 2 or 3, or like 15) of sleek, non-over-the-top, slim fitted armor available through Karma
- Ascended boxes and “Ecto Refinement” mats added to mob drobs
- Mob drops not balanced in such a way that assumes we are all botters and shouldn’t get anything
- Reverse DR, we get more for going to different places rather than less for staying in the same place
- Other cosmetics, bring back the town clothes you ripped from the gem store in a way that players directly collect them in game without gems
I miss feeling like open world content was going to be the main content.
1. Disabling instruments is too extreme
2. Temporarily turning the slider down isn’t really a solution
In before “Yo-lo-Tron”
Trahearne…..do i need to say more?
By linking to the quoted post and looking at the attachments, you will have officially completed GW2’s personal story.
Another bump, thread may be old but the issue is still there.
I think the absolute best way to hit both horizontal and vertical progression at the same time is to add a whole bunch of good features and content to open world PvE.
Basically stuff like:
- Improved DE rewards
EXP is nothing to get excited about for level 80 characters. The few silver we get as a reward felt like pennies at launch, feels more like penny shavings now. Diminishing returns should probably go away.
- Either tokens for open world stuff or more karma rewards
It’s Ironic that the karma we get from open world we use to buy ingredients for cooking that allows our alts to skip open world.
- More new permanent soloable unique events
Scarlet invasions and Tequatl are already unplayable most times of the day. Even if they weren’t, they aren’t something an individual can just hop on and start doing when he/she wants.
- Adding goals and rewards that involve just doing open world stuff
Like dailies but more powerful.
Horizontal
We need more stuff we can just go out and do when we don’t feel like forming a dungeon or fractals party or roaming WvW. With new rewards and features, our level 80 characters would have a reason beyond dailies to go exploring.
Vertical
It would mean SO MUCH to leveling alts and new players if we could get the zones populated again.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Many if not most of GW2’s updates develop a conflict of interest of some sort:
- Champ zergs yelling at new players for doing an event ahead of time
- WvW season achievement hunters chasing sentries instead of helping their server
- The great war between Scarlet invasion completers and Aether farmers
- The Blackgate guesting fallout during the Tequatl LS event
- Runners in the Tower of Nightmares getting fighters rolled by extra aggro
- Jumpers at the wurm in the current LS event wanting to not see its HP bar drop
I think you should build a specific strike force that you consult with before every update that is dedicated to predicting these things. We’re competing with people we run into, not cooperating with them.
When making updates to the open world, please consider this.
Guys, I don’t know to tell you this in a way you haven’t heard but this argument happens EVERY time something new comes out.
It has to prove itself. If it does, games will migrate over.
The best way you can petition SteamOS support out of ArenaNet or any other set of developers is to buy and use SteamOS yourself.
I’ve always felt that DEs and open world were supposed to be THE main course of the game’s PvE.
I have to admit that after my first character I hardly touch DEs or exploration content.
Ironically I use crafting, personal story and dailies to level alts. All three are the content I find the most chore-like and least fun.
However, I would rather that DEs, rewards and other open world content be changed to be more end-gameish. These changes should be mostly based on individual successes and not be designed for zergs every time.
This game needs more worthwhile stuff to do, on your own, whether others are present or not.
Also got a drop this update.
I have to be totally alone to get a smooth FPS.
i5-750
2x HD 6870s
8GB RAM
Changing graphics settings or switching CFX on or off changes the FPS by maybe 1-2. So I’m assuming the issue lies in a CPU process.
Actually something did happen this update that slowed me down too. I have an i5-750.
My culling options are on Lowest-Low yet I’m still seeing virtually every nameplate. Though even in areas with only 12 people it still seems slower.
So it’s likely that your new rig came in at a bad time for GW2.
All the testing I’ve done has indicated that it is a CPU issue and not instigated by the GPU or graphics settings in any way.
I’m more or less non as concerned with who the villain is as I am concerned about: Are the current alliance of enemies going to pack a lot of Cripple, Immobilize, Invulnerability or Confusion.
I mean the thing about Scarl…
Oh wait this thread isn’t really about that!
I’m not getting my hopes up yet, but it does sound like they are going to make some changes to the way releases work.
I was really excited about the 2 week process when we were in the Zephyr Sanctum / Queen Jennah phase, but it seemed to have thinned out since then.
Really though, we were all just psyched about those “new skills and traits” and we’re still waiting.
Every time I mention GW2 and someone knows what I’m talking about I always hear the same thing.
“Yeah, I felt like the combat was really the best, but even after a year my class feels exactly the same.”
I’m sure we’ll see a lot of returning friends if we ever get a patch that adds at least one new weapon to every class.
I’ve always felt the RP/Immersion side of the game was well done. Though we never got the special hi-def screenshot feature back or OOC first person zoom, there are plenty of small details, walkable spaces and great NPC dialogues. I even agree with town clothes not being usable in combat but did the market for it die?
I must know more!
We ask for an explanation.
If I had to guess I would say that the more immerse items weren’t selling quite as well as the more gimmicky items.
It’s sad, most of the stuff leaving the BLTC are the items I liked the most.
I would like to hear that this is part of some elaborate plan to make town clothes more in-game and robust in the near feature. Not getting my hopes up though.
Norn are just giant dwarves imo. Although, it just isn’t the same…
I think dwarves tend to be more groupy and norn tend to be more individualistic.
Also dwarves are maybe a bit less “oafish?”
I had the opposite problem. When I first played it I loved it despite the bugs and balance issues. Once I hit level 60, the honeymoon was over for me, and my level of fun dropped dramatically. I got to level 80, with full exotic berzerker gear, got some gem costume sets, and now I’m done. Haven’t logged in for several months now, and the guild that I was in is now dead with no active players.
You just need to take it easy, maybe do a few things to level an alt for 30-60 minutes a day and do a few living story things. Next thing you know you’ve made friends who run dungeons and you’re spending hours mashing numbers into a calculator trying to maximize your build.
Advertising or not, I was convinced they would work like other skins.
As for dev responses. For this thread, it’s the weekend. For the entire fractured patch, the teams dedicated to improving current content seem quieter than the teams working on Living Story stuff.
Wait, why does it say the guy was infracted for this post (OP)? Is there something wrong about asking if people would play a race if it was in the game? o.O
No, but always drive the speed limit around holiday time.
I think he got a speeding ticket.
Roll a warrior.
Goodbye conditions, or any other build related problem you might be facing.
Proof that we could use 2-3 stickies for general character screenshot threads.
I mean I know we have profession specific ones but… I like these general ones better.

Anyone who has payed attention to the average zerker build realizes that damage increases multiply in this game.
In other words: +5% and +5% is better than a single +10%. The second 5% is multiplied on TOP of the first 5%.
Break that down to ascended gear and what do you get? Higher stats that reverberate heavier down a line of +% boosts. The more +%s you equip, the more ascended gear is going to matter.
Ascended gear is sort of like locking a build down. You don’t invest that much time and money unless you’re sure the parts fit the finished product. Once you’re set on a build and you’re maxed on exotics, what do you have left to work for? Either vanity or stats.
Just simply controlling GW2 is a mastery many of us take for granted. Managing a skill bar with 10 skills and tab targeting while constantly moving, jumping and dodging is quite a feat.
However, it is a nice system because we’re a bit more connected to camera rotation and UI. A lot of action combat MMOs streamline the UI and skill system to support LMB/RMB skills and locked mouse aim. GW2 is different. The controls help it feel a little more like a lasting MMO rather than a “fun for a while” action game with other people running around too.
(NOTE: The above has to do ONLY with control. Not disagreements with balancing and rewards which I’m sure at least one of you is itching roast me for.)
Naming can’t be helped. Some people prefer a unique name system, others prefer a shared name system. However, if you can get past that you’ll notice this game has the second best contacts/guild/friends UI system. (First being GW1 where idle timers didn’t wipe your guild chat.) Unlike most MMOs, in this game you friend an account not a character. Saves you from: 1. Rebuilding your friends list for every alt. 2. Appearing multiple times in the same guild. 3. Not knowing your friend is online when she is on an alt.
(I want to use attachments so you don’t have to link offsite, but I can seem to organize them inside the post so follow along with the numbers.)
A day spent modeling:
01 – Getting the make-up just right

03 – Doing a pre-Wintersday shoot
04 – Posing for the defining shot

05 – Showing humanity what medium armor should look like

(Also Louveepine’s Asura a few posts up is really nice. [+1]ed.)
I too have been having third floor problems and its more of an issue of “skills” than it is “skill.”
With a zerker ranger or a zerker ele, the run just isn’t possible with either of my setups. For the most part, I see warriors and guardians successfully making the run. If only there was a trait reset at the bottom and the top I wouldn’t have issues.
Whenever I get in an ad-hoc group, the same VERY annoying thing happens every time. And that is we all end up fighting the easy parts, but as soon as we show up at a difficult section almost everyone goes into run mode and NO ONE makes it out alive. They just get themselves and me killed.
Soloing isn’t an option because it’s only a matter of time before a runner brings the whole place down on me.
I’m an experienced player. I run zerker gear and builds because I can survive with it. The tower is an exception and if I change my build to support the run, I won’t be pushing out nearly as much DPS on the hybrid when I get there.
If I tag up I have to wait for about 15 people before I move, because if I go with 5 we’ll lose 3 at the run parts.
Oh and if you do high DPS and run up on a few veterans, you better get moving FAST after you kill them because respawns are just around the corner.
I actually really like this type of content. I just think we need some good anti-running mechanics in it so it can scale more accurately. It also needs to scale all the way down to solo if no one else shows up. And of course we also need to account for the warrior effect. Example: Run a PvE ranger build against a PvE warrior build in a PvP fight and the ranger will likely win. However, compare them in PvE content and the warrior build works out easier.
I think they are just a little bit conflicty. There are no achievements for defending for example. I saw plenty of cases where people asked if we could let SM get taken so we could take it back.
Sentry and camp capping achievements lead to people running ahead of/away from their commander to go do their own thing.
If it were up to me I would:
Trim camps to 50
Trim yaks and sentries to 100
Increase kills to 1000
Everyone click on your inventory options button and have a party!
Thanks Anet!
Will the group still all be auto-kicked from instance if leader/first to go in, is DC’ed/Quits?
Yes.
Yep yep yep.
(Unless they do a surprise change to the way groups work. That would be cool.)
In order to get by in the MMO world you need to think like this:
Extreme RNG cases are quantified by the entire game’s population. No one precursor is meant to land on a specific person, it’s only meant to land at a certain rare rate world wide. These items are tradeable, so they REWARD luck rather than DISPLAY achievement.
As such, the way a precursor is MEANT to be obtained is in the trading post.
Obtaining a precursor through drop or forge is GOOD LUCK but should not be made into a GOAL.
I’m glad they are making changes, but that’s the way it is now.
Heh, I wondered why playing my female characters suddenly became a little less fun to watch while running around.
I miss all of the swinging and strafe swooping and the like.
1. Hop on the champ train for about 2-3 hours
2. That’s it
Have you tried running a repair on the client?
