Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Seeing as there is already a lot of feedback on what went wrong, I’d like to highlight a few things that what went right and how it can be improved/incorporated in the future:

1. Personal progress: While I can’t disagree with the suggestions to base the event more on world success and less on personal events tagged, I do feel personal progress is important. Just because a world failed does not mean an individual player could not rise to the challenge.

When personal accomplishment is rewarded, it encourages people to do well. When personal accomplishment is not rewarded, it encourages people to server-hop instead.

FOR THIS EVENT: Capping the max reward at 10 personal events would have been better. To discourage Tag-N-Leave, add extra rewards per 10 mapwide events completed.

2. Bringing back old rewards: Items that we could have missed should always come back. Exclusivity in items is a common argument, but I feel exclusive items should only be rewarded for skill and accomplishment. Not being online at a certain period of time does not constitute a good enough reason to not be able to get an item.

FOR THIS EVENT: The time allotted to attain these items is too short. I hope to see more permanent methods in the future.

3. Utilizing lower level zones for high level purposes: All I can say is that it feels great to have a reason to visit those maps again.

FOR THIS EVENT: It would be nice to see something like mordrem blooms added as a permanent reward to these zones.

4. Thirty minutes on, thirty minutes off: Scarlet’s 45 minute events felt a bit long, but this 30 minute schedule may be just the right spot. Furthermore, not having to wait 2-3 hours between every consecutive attempt is nice for people with real-life schedules.

FOR THIS EVENT: It should have been made clear in the announcement that the invasions weren’t starting at 9:00 but rather 9:30 instead.

I actually have one of those… Sort of…

It has the GW2 dragon logo centered and no text. There’s an ANet/NCSoft logo on one sleeve and an NVIDIA logo on the other. The release date 8.28.12 is printed on the back.

It’s also a large, which is one size too big for me…

The devs visited several GameStops not long after release, there was one near me so I went.

Btw: (The fractal relic bags have an automatic sorting effect that is really annoying if you don’t specifically want it).

The 150 slot ones take “masterwork before everything else”, but if you only get those bags then it wouldn’t really affect your inventory.

They ignore the condense option which can be an absolute pain if you’re a trash-heaper like myself.

Yes, my inventory is never organized except for the first 2 lines.
Yes, I have a lot of stuff I don’t need sitting around.

You people are being downright cruel. It’s easy to miss stuff on the gem store.

In addition to that, there hasn’t been any official announcements beyond the day 1 sale. It tends to be a forum dig or reddit dig process to try to find out what’s available.

I can understand not looking down the entire (one/two line large icon) list every day when that information should be up and prominent. I can also understand scrolling that list anyway and missing something because it just seems to be designed that way.

It’s my Achievement Points from doing jumping puzzles and killing ambients, with my shield no less, that make me especially skilled in dungeons and worth keeping in PUGs.

Hey now!

I like having people who can do jumping puzzles to be in my Fractals groups.

We save a lot of time on uncategorized and jade maw when people aren’t falling off.

For high AP groups I usually take out my logging axe and chop down a tree to prove I can complete the logging daily if I wanted to. That usually gets my dungeon groups pretty confident that I’m a meta pro. If I really want to be nutty I may even uncover a vista but I don’t like to show off too much.

Sometimes I call target on my cat (not a bear) and then ping Frost Spirit. Most groups don’t give me trouble if I don’t though.

Then again I have 21,000 AP

I used to call target on Mini Liadri :p

When I play other F2P games as a F2P player, I wish me and the others of my kind were restricted from map chat as well.

I think this restriction is a HUGE bonus, not just to veterans, but to new players alike.

If free players were allowed to /map, there’s a good chance you STILL wouldn’t be able to ask for help. Questions and answers tend to get buried beneath all of the arguing and botting.

To that end, I ENCOURAGE veterans to reach out on map chat and let people know they are available for questions through PM. I feel this would help create the best system for new players to get help.

Ranger All Content

DarkWasp.7291

It’s a boring but effective build in open-world PvE but absolutely terrible in anything more challenging and it gives you a very steep learning curve because as long as you’re using it you don’t need to use dodging, positioning and other techniques.

Ineffective actually.

A well built Ranger is one of the best options for open world, my personal favorite, but the bear/tank mindset doesn’t help. Ranger’s open world survivability is made really high by it’s burst damage, evades, mobility, stability, condition removal and the ability to have 100% pet uptime BY SWAPPING THEM. Bearbow rangers either let their bears die when things get rough, or when things don’t, their bear does pretty much nothing.

Furthermore, Call of the Wild (Warhorn) is usually better movement speed choice than Signet of the Hunt.

OR

Path of Scars (Axe) is usually a better CC choice than Point Blank Shot (Longbow.)

Neither of these skills should have had the name change, they both sound stupid now.

Long post

I’m just trying to offset the amount strongly worded posts here who are using descriptions like “garbage.”

I do not believe this thread is about having the absolute most optimal team build. It’s about people hating rangers.

I’ve seen games with grossly underpowered classes, and this isn’kitten Of course a bearbow can give that illusion, but that doesn’t stop the potential.

And for all of you tossing your experience up:

Yes, I’ve mained ranger since headstart
Yes, I have more than 20,000 AP
Yes, I main ranger in PvP
Yes, I’ve been a part of a prebuilt dungeon speedrun team
Yes, I played ranger in GW1 (but as a misguided rebel against meta)
Yes, I have maxed and tried all of the other classes in dungeons
Yes, I have done thousands of fractals as a ranger —- AND
No, I have never been kicked from a party at the first sign of trouble

Not that any of that really matters.

Ranger Hate...

Well at least in PvE, Ranger is a top level DPS option.

  • Sword auto is brutal
  • Stability is very helpful
  • Double Path of Scars is brutal
  • Double Rapid Fire is brutal
  • Two spirits that boost team DPS (Frost gives a 7% increase and Sun works great too)
  • Great area condition cleanse
  • Perfect candidate to use extra ele weapon summons

So when you hear PvE people saying it’s terrible, they obviously missed the potential.

So this is a mild bother, but I thought I’d post it anyway because feedback is feedback.

I’m finding the two recently converted ranger shouts to sound just a little “off” compared to the other shouts and combat related voice work.

While I can easily imagine a Sylvari shouting something as poetic as, “We heal as one!” or “Strength of the pack!” but I’ve found the other races generally tend to sound more quirky or snappy.

For example: I could better imagine a GW2 human character yelling “You’re healed!” or “Heal with me!”

Anyone else feel this way?

I don’t do Fractals, i hate the toxicity in the community that plays that content, simply because i roll a ranger and those are speed runs mostly that kick out any player that don’t fit the meta.

My ranger is my fractals speed run meta character. I think most people have come around to accepting rangers these days too. It was always a high damage melee class, but it took a longbow buff for people to realize that xD.

That said, I agree there shouldn’t be double fractal dailies.

What overhaul does it need? Everything is organized and neat.

Search function doesn’t work, lacks basic features found in even freely hosted boards like avatars, user groups and so on, the forum exposes your account name rather than lets you utilise a forum pseudonym, no easy way to read the first ANet post in a thread without going via the dev tracker, poor attachment implementation. I could go on and on.

About the only good thing about the current forum is the design looks pretty sleek, but the actual functionality is abysmal when you take in to account the fact that free hosted forums have many times more features and functions than a professional B2P game forum that requires game purchase to even participate in.I mean heck, GW2Guru has an infinitely better forum in terms of ease of use and functionality and it’s a fansite.

If they ever do avatars, it would be neat if they could API our characters in.

DarkWasp.7291

I would prefer to see the return of human female idle animation and the human female run animation as opposed to seeing more living story.

Not me. Idle character animations to me are rather trivial. I’d rather see more living story content soon after HoT. I don’t sit around staring at my character on idle for hours or even minutes, but I do enjoy playing many hours of actual game content. If they work in the change without sacrificing progress toward more significant game updates then I have no problem with that.

Content does not equal animation. Granted, animation makes content a heck of a lot more enjoyable, but once the animators are done doing their job on content-related projects, they should be able to find time to adjust some idle animations.

The person I responded to said they would rather have the animations back than more living story(content). I also even stated as long as it doesn’t interfere with content related projects I agree it should be a project.

I apologize.

What is Meta?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

It’s actually a calculator thing, not just seeing bigger numbers on the screen.

You are correct that it is easier to mix condi with tank, and that may become neccesary in HoT. We’re hoping at least, to some extent.

When you do a straight up DPS calculation, zerker still usually comes on top, even when using conditions from your skills. However, here’s a few notes on both:

Physical damage:
Is applied instantly and cannot be removed after application
Can crit
Is affected by more damage boosting traits, runes and team bonuses
—-
Can be evaded
Is reduced by toughness
Is reduced by weakness
Can be reflected, retaliated or made too dangerous to apply in melee
Requires three stats for optimal application

Condition damage:
Cannot be evaded once applied
Bypasses toughness entirely
Requires only 1-2 stats for optimal application (can mix with tank/healing)
Does not proc confusion/retaliation per tick
—-
Can (QUITE FREQUENTLY) be removed before doing its full damage
Can be converted to boons on enemies or reflected back onto you
Cannot crit
Has fewer modifiers and does not multiply up as much as physical damage with team bonuses (such as frost spirit, banners, spotter)
Lacks instant application

GSCH/TTS and Tequatl

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Many people here have commented and provided criticisms on how you can possibly improve on Teq and get the kill yet you seem to ignore them for some odd reason citing “exploiting” when things like the double damage spot have been in the game not just for Teq, but for other world bosses since day 1.

Rather than whining about it, try alternative strategies, or proven strategies to see what works for your guild. None of the current strategies are exploity at all if that’s your concern. If it was impossible, there’d be a much a larger out cry by now, but the fact of the matter is, it isn’t. Things change and you just have to adapt appropriately =)

Before I go on I would like to point out that I never accused anyone of exploiting. I would also like to clarify that by saying that, I am not assuming you were targeting me with your post.

Now, I do not agree that having the ‘double damage’ spot or ‘early damage’ spot since day one merits intentional design. In my opinion, it’s an oversight. You should not be able to smack the floor to hit a non-present dragon. That is why I strongly believe they buffed the wrong thing for crit damage.

Aside from that, I am looking forward to adapting to change. When the crit change is implemented successfully, placing the weight more on zerker gear than soldier gear, we should have a fight that is more difficult than Teq pre-patch. More dodging and jumping will be required to compensate for the lack of soldier defense. In return, a good group should be able to complete the event faster than before. Rewarding coordination with faster victories, and dampening the stand-around 1 1 1 1 effect.

Players are refusing to conform their playstyles and strategies to match this reality.

Two potential reasons for that:

1. Adapting zergs to change is comparable to trying to turn a train while it’s on a straight track.

2. The bug will be fixed. Perhaps not as soon as we had hoped. The community’s appalling positive reaction to the mistake may have dulled the urgency of the fix, but a fix is inevitable. Several of us are avoiding the fight until then.

GSCH/TTS and Tequatl

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Guys, you’re still missing the point.

Tequatl and all other structure world bosses are BUGGED. The ENTIRE boss is meant to receive crit damage. The “early damage” spot that is currently receiving crit damage isn’t even supposed to be hittable in the first place. That spot cannot be targeted, will not take damage buffs from the megalaser and remains when Teq is in the air.

Having that ONE spot crittable, was not a design decision, it was an accident. Doubling Teq’s HP is compensation for a QoL change (allowing crit [AKA near-double] damage to be applied to bosses) and not a hard-mode change.

Tequatl Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I know you guys are having a discussion over content difficulty, but let’s not forget that this is a bug not a feature.

The “double damage spot,” which is the only spot you can crit right now, isn’t even supposed to exist. It allows you to hit both Teq and Shatterer while they are in the air, this is unintentional.

When they released the patch, they buffed the HP by 100% both to numb the condition effect that was trivializing these events and to FINALLY allow these bosses to receive crit damage. They intended to make that change to the feet, head and all. The result should have been times closer to what we saw before last week hit. Allowing bosses to be crit is an important change which will make the fight more skilled, but not necessarily slower. People will have to wear less tanky armors and focus more on survival to run good crit builds to burn down that 100% increase in HP.

Still don’t believe this is bugged? Well let’s analyze this!

The key is that only ONE spot per boss is crittable. Here’s a list of irregularities it has:

  1. It cannot be targeted
  2. It allows you to hit bosses when they are not present
  3. There is no visual indicator to draw players there
  4. It is not affected by event effects such as the damage buff against Teq after she’kitten with the laser

What we’re dealing with here has to do with game development. All of these world bosses are structures not very different from the graveling burrows in AC or an engineer turret (which was only recently changed to take crit damage). As a structure, the center of their animation marks their main damage point. Think of it as a main node. For dragons, which are elevated at the center, three extra large nodes were added. Two for the feet and one for the head. These three nodes are meant to be the only places these bosses take damage and they get removed when the dragon is airborne.

You’ll note that the nodes are static in the Tequatl fight. When her feet move, the damage spots do not move. When she crash lands, the damage spots appear in the same place as before in the middle of her animation, starting misaligned from her position until she stumbles into place. So the extra nodes get removed/readded, but the main node stays in place, making it an “early damage spot.” When the lasers are fired, the extra nodes are either flagged or substituted so those areas take extra damage while Tequatl is stunned. The main node, which isn’t really meant to be attacked by players, does not receive the damage buff.

Now when they made these bosses crittable in the last update, they went and updated the code/flags for each one and the main nodes began to take crit damage just like their single-node structure engi turret brethren. However, the extra nodes (main attack points, AKA heads and feet) did not take. My guess is these nodes are separate entities and their changes were accidentally omitted from the patch to the live server.

TL;DR – It’s definitely a bug.

If you want hard content, don’t lose hope for HoT. However, don’t expect any major difficulty changes to current world bosses just yet.

It’s funny, they introduce two bosses that are supposed to be difficult, legitimately the purpose behind them was for groups to organize and take them out – and the whining hits all time levels.

Sorry folks, you can’t show up 5 minutes prior and take him down.

Sorry you can’t press 11111111 and see a boss die for easy loot.

Work for your kills – Triple Trouble is really hard, but we’re still getting 8 minute Tequatl Kills.

1. Sitting around and waiting before content is not a good thing.

2. Even when we’re not idling Nomad gear spamming 1 1 1 1, there will always be people around us that are. There really is no rightful way for us as players to get rid of them either.

3. Triple Trouble is very rarely given an honest attempt by openworlders, despite the fact that it’s an open world event. It’s a cool event, but not too many people are into spam clicking “join friend in,” joining some public TS server and listening vigilantly for a half an hour, and having to be online at one certain time on the calendar.

Tequatl, on the other hand, is participated in on multiple shards at multiple times of the day. Even still, it took several long months to shave away the average crowd to make room for the actual capable reward-seekers who could succeed the event on a regular basis. Prior to that, it was just content that many of us didn’t do.

Content we don’t do is almost as bad as content that does not exist.

I mean if you really want to fail after wasting a significant portion of your life, you could ask that they bring back the Scarlet Invasion events so you can sit around in a zone having your win-attempts ignored in map chat by an overwhelming horde of champ farmers. That event lasted 45 minutes and failed pretty much every time. It sounds just perfect for this thread.

Honestly I think a lot of people are more amused than frustrated.

Things have been stirred up, we’re trying new builds everything just feels renewed.

Certain things being temporarily OP is just part of the experience, in fact it can be a major part of the fun. Memories are being made.

Portable toilet? A definite novelty but are there any actual uses for it?

Quickly free up inventory space by combining sigils and runes.

Unfortunately yes. I’m still trying to forget it all except the last few seconds of it. >.<

Listen man! Blue spray paint cans spraying red paint is super symbolic and you just don’t properly grasp the depth of it all!

I should be a bit more clear: Please don’t take a comment like “we’re reading your thoughts” lightly. That’s truly not a dismissive comment, but one that is intended to let you know that feedback from our forum members and players will be shared with the team as a whole.

In fact, I’ll edit my previous post to make that a bit more visible.

Yay! I think just knowing that we’ve been considered, whether it results in anything or not, helps put our minds at ease about the whole ordeal.

Also when you say that you’re “reading our thoughts” are you SURE you weren’t suggesting telepathy?

I’m thinking mostly the same as it is now except:

6/6/0/0/6

Your pet should do more damage, you and your team should have perma fury and swiftness, you should be able to throw Barrage twice before swapping back to sword with the 66% cooldown reduction on swap, you should have more blast finishers, you can get more quickness related might out of Rampage as One.

  • Healing Spring: This skill is now categorized as a trap skill. (Also renamed to “We Heal as One”.

First of all, I’m going to assume this is a typo and that you plan on renaming Heal as One instead.

Second of all, is there a way we can convince you not to make that change?

I mean next thing you know, we’re going to have to have a shout called “It’s Quiet… Too Quiet.”

EDIT: Oh it’s getting changed to a shout. Ignore my previous remark it makes more sense now.

A little Sad after I got the Ultimate edition

Oh it’s definitely been a common thing since the launch of GW2, especially in the gem store.

Bundles come out. Like salvaging bundles or black lion bundles. The price is always just slightly lower than buying the items individually, but you actually end up losing money anyway because you don’t even need 2-3 of the items on the list.

They are challenging the very foundation of marketing! Buyer’s remorse is a new cutting edge strategy!

(That said, the Ultimate Edition is great if you were already going to buy 4000 gems with real money. If not, then it’s not great.)
