Yes.

I hate all the stacking though, so I would have been in my element not having to do it, for once.

Because of it I don’t do dungeons, or fractals, at all.

I understand the game encourages you to do it, but if it’s possible to not do it (which I’m sure it is), they were perfectly within their rights to not do it.

Heck, even if it’s not possible, they were still perfectly within their rights to try.

Actually Bloomhunger is a static mob so there really isn’t anything weird about “stacking” in that case.

It’s actually just being used as another word for melee. This is not a corner lure situation.

(Just me being OCD)

Forge or Sell Exotic Greatswords?

I have the perfect solution. Sell the exotics on TP. Use the gold you got from selling them for crafting rare GS. Gamble!!!

Yeah this is better if you really want to forge. This way you will at least get to hit the button more times.

no under water content in hot?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I’ve got all classes, 7 of those different classes are at 80, only one that isn’t is a necromancer which is a work in progress with another 3 characters.

I’ve not had any issues, sure some are stronger underwater than others, but that’s no different on land. That’s not to say that one class being weaker in the water is also weak on land.

If anything it’s more a class balance issue than an underwater is broken issue.

Still, balance aside we’re dealing with:

1. Very little customization (stat or appearance) when it comes to Aquabreathers and no steady way to get them.

2. Enemies and pets swimming through walls.

3. Players rezzing downed players contributing very little to the regen.

And to take the point back to class balance, they removed the water map from PvP and closed up the underwater training area in HotM. WvW used to have a huge lake in the middle of every borderland, and that was later covered by the new ruins.

So it seems like rather than look into underwater combat, the current policy is to lock it away until they are ready to look at it again.

Ranger or Guardian: Best DPS In PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

@Zenith, umm pretty sure rangers have some of the best burst. Barrage + Rapid Fire under Quickening Zephyr/Signet of the Wild/Rampage as One, swap sword/axe use Path of Scars and then auto to finish out your buffs, really some of the best burst, only downside is long reuse on the buffs.

It’s true.

I did some DPS checks in HotM.

With Frost Spirit up, starting a timer at 30 seconds right before casting Barrage then Signet+QZ then RF then sword 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1, the ranger’s DPS was at just over 5000 when the 30 seconds were up. It started off around 7000 and worked its way down.

Using a 6/6/0/0/2 guard with GS/S+F the DPS sat around 3500 the whole 30 secs, perhaps spiking to 4000.

Calculated off screenshots of the combat log.

Ranger or Guardian: Best DPS In PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Actually the idea that ranger is a “selfish” class is a misconception. However, there are a few things that are selfish, and those are:

Passive Signet of the Hunt – Instead, use skill 5 on a warhorn for runs. You’ll give swiftness to everyone

Staying ranged because you want to range – As people explained, there is a good melee option for your class and you will give/receive buffs from up close. You also reduce the risk or luring the enemy away from your melee party if you don’t stick with them

Refusal to manage pets – Ranger is NOT the easymode class. You have to micromanage your pet at all times or they WILL cause annoying delays and even party wipes. If you swap them frequently before they die, you won’t need a tanky pet. Better pet damage is better for your party.

A few utilities that really don’t do anything important – But, all the classes have these.

Now, lets move on to the things that are NOT selfish:

Warhorn – There are times when your group, dare I say it, does not keep Fury up at all times. If you have the warhorn equipped, you can help prevent that. Also it gives a lot of swiftness for running

DPS – Not to start a zerker debate, but it is true that doing more damage = dead enemies. Dead enemies = helping your party. Rangers have insane burst. The sword auto when added to the pet damage is among the highest 11111 spam in the game.

Set up Frost Spirit. Blow the warhorn. Swap to longbow. Start your fights off with barrage (and RF if single target). Tell your cat to give 5 stacks of might. Swap to your jaguar and swap to your sword. Use Signet of the Wild and immediately after it finishes use Quickening Zephyr. Stealth that jaguar while auto attacking. It’s a complicated process, but it’s a LOT of damage.

Resurrecting fallen allies – I’m not saying we’re the BEST at it, after all, Warrior does have Battle Standard. However, if you’re a ranger and find that SotW and QZ are charged and ready to go, you can quickly rez a downed party member up before the CCs and damage get out of hand.

Often being the best medium to throw your buffs on – If you have a party that already has all of the bases covered as far as stacking might, weapon summons and boons in general, you’re going to want somewhere really good to put them. Ranger is that place. Add 25 might to the 87.5% DPS increase they earn during the uptime of SotW and QZ and watch the enemy’s HP drain. Give the ranger a Lightning Hammer and you can keep might blasts going in the middle of a longer fight (like Lupi.) Also that DPS is going to shoot up even farther because LH has non-pet damage YET you still keep the pet. (Mesmers are a good choice for LH too.)

Healing Spring + Blast finisher – Healing spring is one of the best party condition removal skills in the game. You can also time it with your warhorn blast finisher for a little extra group heal.

Frost Spirit and Spotter – 7% damage increase and crit chance increase for the whole party.

So to answer the OP, Ranger probably has the higher damage capability. Unscathed Contender has nothing on the SotW+QZ combo.

Combat is TOO DIFFICULT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I would also like to mention that the personal story missions were not designed to be tanked. The NPCs that fight along side of you do very little damage, yet somebody has to get the enemies out of the way.

Six enemies picking away at high defense player are still more dangerous than six enemies who are dead. You can run Soldier gear if you want Toughness and Vitality, but having that Power stat is crucial for solo play. Healing Power and healing in general are going to feel very subpar compared to other MMOs. Heals are more of a utility and often don’t make a sustained tank.

Some other tips:

  • Ranged weapons (scepter) tend to be very good in personal story
  • If a red circle does not immediately do damage, WALK out of it, do not DODGE out of it unless you have to
  • Your stability skills are Hallowed Ground and “Stand Your Ground”. Also “Save Yourselves!” will break you out of a stun
  • Never underestimate traits

That’s right. 2000 gems for: 500 gems worth of armor, a bag that would otherwise cost maybe 2-5 gold in the trading post and some boosters.

Why does this matter to you so much?

If you want to go that far, why don’t you just start demanding there be additional indicators for things like —

  • What gender the player truly is… “That chick isn’t actually a chick? They’re lying to us? * gasp * No way! I demand ArenaNet put a stop to this.”
  • How old they are…
  • How they earn their $ in game…
…..and so on and so forth.

Why are we drawing lines in the sand in what is supposed to be a game?

They were disabled because a bug caused people to unfairly gain God Walking Among Mere Mortals and all of the rewards associated. Fortunately the HoM was causing the game to crash at the time, which prevented them from unlocking the skins.

DarkWasp.7291

It’s hard to say.

I’m enjoying first person immensely, but due to the 360 nature of this game, I find zooming out for serious fights necessary. It’s not a bad thing, because you realize your character still has really cool animations.

One time it bugged out while I was chopping a tree and my axe showed. It looked really neat. Though other times my own skill effects almost gave me a headache.

I think we have to take first person for what it is. Just (finally) a way for us to see the world from up close and also take nice scenic screenshots. While simple combat is surprisingly viable at that zoom level, combat is the one part of the game truly optimized for third person.

Basically what I’m saying is, I think the devs intended for us to see the world up close, but not fight up close. Now we CAN fight up close, but if the weapons are rendered, they may obstruct the view too much unless new animations were added for first person. That would be a lot of work to support a cool-but-unadvisable combat perspective.

Taking A Break From GW2 Due To Patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DarkWasp.7291

Huh? There weren’t remotely this many bugs in the BWEs or initial release. Optimization was an issue. Along with sit-jumping, apparently :P Possibly that cheap rare weapons for low karma glitch. But that wasn’t necessarily a bug.

  • Ranger downed skill 3 did not work if the player was on a slope
  • Several stuck skillpoint/map completion issues
  • Personal Story bugs blocking progress
  • Players could get their skill animations stuck and weapon swap for fun (I miss this one)
  • Level 67 rares yielded exotics in the forge
  • Personal mails were often capped at 6/10 due to game messages taking up slots
  • WvW bonuses were not correctly displayed
  • It was possible to transmute cultural armor of the wrong race to achieve public nudity
  • Detha and Hodgkins VERY frequently refused to progress AC paths 1 and 2
  • Getting the ranger’s Opening Strike to apply vulnerability was a bit like winning the lottery
  • A long list of Necro trait bugs
  • The icons for asuran basic weapons made them look like tribal weapons
  • Asurans using Whirling Axe only showed damage sporadically

Just off the top of my head. For an incomplete list of release bugs that have since been fixed.

As much as I think it’s a bit immature that the history of our language has lead us to use disabilities/sexual orientation as insults, I also think language is dynamic thing. Words mean different things to millions of people now than they did before. Often times the original definition of a word is left hanging on by a single strand, struggling against the overwhelming flood.

Language happens when the receiver understands what the sender is conveying. If “dumb” were a more recent thing, I’d see cause for concern. However, it has been transformed by the sins of our past. Very few people even remember the disability when they say it. For that reason, it would be illogical to assume they are insulting you.

As far as my personal opinion on the matter: I just don’t want to see anything else conveniently get bugged out of the game like the female human idle animation.

I’ll be quite honest, that asuran phrase is probably my favorite line that comes from player characters. At no point did I ever link it with a disability.

I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL

This is amazing. I never though the world could feel old and new at the same time. On one hand the GW1 nostalgia is flooding back as I explore Tyria. On the other, there’s things in the world that seem new because I never noticed them before. Did anyone ever realize how good a gatherable herb sprout looks on the edge of a snowy mountain? Did anyone ever look down a tall cliff and actually feel how far down everything below was?

Simply climbing up and down stairs is a total “LETS DO IT AGAIN!” moment. Staring off in the distance at 7 players fighting centaurs on a bridge has never felt so real! Sometimes I look up and find out I’m not actually in a cave, and there’s neat trees and rocks above me giving way to the sky. I can tell if its night or day!

Brandon, you’re the best!

First person zoom did not turn out like I had suggested. It turned out WAY better!
