I think the correct phrasing is:
“$50 is the price of GW2 now, and it includes HoT. Veterans are required to buy the game again.”

They also sold the revenant finisher to people the SAME DAY they announced it was going to be part of the deluxe editions of HoT.

I mean really. I’d gladly pay $50 if they raised the new player price to $70
Of course that wouldn’t be smart, so they could always throw a free character slot at existing players or something.
Maybe add $25 worth of gems to the +$25 version and $60 worth of gems to the +$50 dollar version too.
Well we got them to respond and correct during the gem-exchange change fallout. Let’s hope we can summon that sort of unity again :P
New players win again.
Alright fellow veterans, we take the bench again as Tyria gets overrun by the bearbow army.
It’s a lot like what we’re hoping that eventual legendary accessories would do.
Only the zones that people really liked in the first place get demolished.
Park a toon in Dry Top with the keys and whenever you happen to be online from :39 – 0:59 of any hour, swap to that toon.
Yeah do this. You don’t even need to be on the whole 20 minutes. Just learn a sweep that works for you. Start on one end, look around and finish on the other. You’ll likely get 5-10 chests each visit.
New heal skill: Shatter Aegis
New minor trait souring an otherwise great traitline: Unobstructed Contender Automatically take screenshot when using Shatter Aegis.

This is ridiculous, if you don’t like the long passwords, then set a short one, and deal with the consecuencies.
They said a suggestion, but the decission is yours.
The decision is not ours. you are not allowed to make a bad password. You can not even make the same password as any of the other players. I have two accounts and they even had to have different passwords.
Now THAT sounds like a security vulnerability right there. You should NOT be alerted if the password you typed matched somebody elses.
Even something simple like horseGrass-/12 is secure enough for this game and easy enough to remember.
What about: 1Quaggan!2Quaggan!3Quaggan!4Quaggan!5Quaggan!6Quaggan!
Seriously though, that’s probably one of the worst passwords ever :P
Eh Wednesday or Thursday they’ll probably announce another 2+2+2 hour beta-stability-stress-test including the group from the last test. Which means no reveal next week either :P
plsdonthateme
Your password is so complicated that you have to write it down and you don’t think that kind of defeats the purpose? If it has to be that complicated that it needs to be written down and almost never entered why not just give each player like 25 random numbers and letters and make them use that as a password?
Because there are neat methods to make long complicated passwords easy to an individual.
For example: ecrvTbSH&&GROW45896:LK (Not my real password of course)
It’s actually just a pingpong of letters staring at E, holding the SHIFT button only for T then after B, capping the middle gap with S and H while holding SHIFT, two &s followed by the word GROW in all caps, then an easy number pattern on the numpad and finally holding SHIFT again and starting at “:” and hitting L then K.
It’s complicated, but more personal than 25 random characters.
To me, legendaries and expensive weapons are sort of like the Dungeoneer title.
I’m only looking out for them when I’m in a PuG. They don’t necessarily mean the PuGs are going to be good or bad, but they mark a higher chance of someone who’s been in the game long enough to have learned a thing or two about dodging and jumping.
Why? Zommoros is great. He takes all of my annoying green sigils and reduces them down to only 1-3 annoying green sigils.
Yeah it IS a stress test. There really isn’t going to be a lot of time or space to find and report bugs.
The way I read it, we’re just adding numbers to something they can monitor on their side.
I was hyped when I was dropped a portal.
I stopped being hyped when I learned that a convention demo stress test can now constitute as a “Closed Beta.”
It’s probably my fault they did that too. Sorry everyone, they really don’t want me in their betas so they scrapped the portal idea as soon as I got one. :P
Simple answer: Humans.
Reason: Less drunk.
Another style change for my character. With 100 transmutation charges and a permanent hair kit, changes happen a lot.

Attachment descriptions:
Did you tell them you had the highest DPS? They don’t like it when you tell them that.
Other games:
Create a character → walk into different lighting → character now looks terrible
GW2:
Create a character → walk into different lighting → character still looks good, sometimes better
I’m all for better graphics, but for the love of Dwayna do NOT screw this up ^ ^ ^
Actually the portal system was as fair as it gets.
It was plain unadulterated RNG.
Every time you killed a mob or completed and event, you had a personal chance to be dropped a portal. Like other drops in the game, a portal was CREATED from nothing and NOT removed from a limited supply.
Imagine a table full of people rolling the very same 6 sided die 10 times each. One person may roll a 5 three times and another person may not roll a 5 at all. There’s nothing unfair about it. Someone got lucky and someone didn’t.
I found a funny old screenshot of it.
Oh the memories. Still waiting.
Currently there is no way to “earn” a precursor. However, when HoT ships there will be a way.
Have Bunny Ears and the few glasses players are asking for ever been released post elimination of town clothes? If not that’s why we aren’t seeing them as they haven’t made the translation to armor skins.
Except that the people who already have them are perfectly able to wear them.
No, in fact I rerolled my one human character to Asura. Humans are boring, there’s nothing distinctive about them. Norn have great cultural armor, Asura get all kinds of great cultural and distinctive looks, Charr aren’t my thing but I get them. Sylvari are… um… interesting. But humans are ‘meh.’
I tolerated it with my Ele for a long time because she was smokin’ hot, but as time has gone on human females in light armor or light-armor-like outfits have managed to become something like 50% of all characters in the game. Short ones. Why are they ALL short? I don’t get it. At least my human is max height for a smidge of uniqueness.
Please wait a moment while Miss Tyria, Miss Shaemoor and Miss Kryta come up with an official retaliation to your claims.
I dont play with humans. If there is any other option to chose I will pick it instead…
I just basically dont like to be a human >.< in RPG…
Im human irl why I would want be same Canc..r in MMORPG? a specially when there are Charr and Asura… Who are fair enough designed race and not sexualized by silly human standards : ) like other devs doing that.
In GW2, even the other races use phrases/references that come from modern American real life humans.
If their pet AI could get them into the beta, lets see if their pet AI can get them through the beta!
No seriously though. If they had Akitten the entire 2 weeks, they’d still only have tagged maybe 200-300 events. That’s a very very low chance at a portal.
What if the die that you roll doesn’t even have a 1 on it, but you still believe you have a chance?
I think the people who farmed for 70+ hours then got it help alleviate that concern.
The devs simply have no reason to randomly select accounts to flag them as portalable. One RNG is good enough, they don’t need to RNG on top of RNG.
Actually I’m quite impressed with this thread. The past few times I saw it brought up there was a lot of blaming for “psychological issues” among other things.
For me there’s a sort of weird pattern that may or may not be related to anything:
For every MMO/RPG that I’ve stuck with for 6 months or more:
Now there have been a few other games, like Neverwinter, where I rolled a female as a main but did not stick around for long. I think the mindset is that the games I am very serious about, online at least, I want to be mainly identified as what I really am. If it’s a game I’m just trying, I go ahead and just make a female because I enjoy that character creation process better.
In GW2 I have 4 males 7 females. Male Asura is probably the most fun to play as far as voice and animation.
Arcane Brilliance is probably the best heal in the game.
Actually there’s merit to the OP’s idea.
If you range with a staff ele, enemies are going to run out of your fields. Rangers can track enemies easier. Not saying you couldn’t do it with eles, just reminding people not to think with stack mentality on a ranged thread.
Guardian? Eeeeeeh no. Not till they get their Dragonhunter stuff.
Warrior can bring banners and might so: he qualifies as potential.
Thief? They still do less ranged DPS than ranger longbow and that’s even WITHOUT the pet.
Don’t forget Barrage is a wonderful thing. Barrage and Rapid Fire together surpasses average melee spike damage.
5 rangers would be like a pinball game:
123 4 – ping 123 4 – ping 123 4 – ping
Try 521 21 521
Single target damage maybe.
We’ll get piercing arrows built-in to our LB damage increasing trait with the upcoming changes.

As far as we can tell, HoT is all raid/Silverwastes-like content.
So the damage difference between a full ascended zerker vs a full exotic zerker = roughly 14% (remember that 5% gets multiplied through crit damage, scholar runes and traits)
It’s bigger than most people think, but a full group of skilled exotic zerkers would still kill stuff faster than we’ve ever seen.
The real case of gearism is as follows:
Both of these cases run the risk of scaling enemies’ HP pools beyond what the player can dish out within the time limit. So in other words, their presence is a burden to everyone around.
That is why it is absolutely important to strive maximize your potential. If you fail and die, you learn. If you waypoint away instead of lying around dead, you won’t get yelled at. Get the highest damage gear you can handle and USE your skills. An ele in Soldier gear who uses ice bow and lava font is going to do more DPS than an ele in Berserker gear who only casts fireball.
This is why the Beekeeper at Vinewrath is often the longest boss fight. South is the lazy lane and the new player lane. Experienced players who are paying more attention are more likely to fight the thrasher or terragrif because they want their reward so they go where they are needed most.
Once you get into the mindset of improving your build, trying new things, letting go of what doesn’t work and honing your skills, you’ll find yourself totally capable in exotic gear. However, at that point you’ll find the game less frustrating, profits easier to make and you may just have worked up the dedication to enjoy the trek toward ascended gear.

Could we, the people with the original DD or CE version who did not get in a stress test, at least get the DD upgrade gemstore item pulled off the market?
I feel that 2000 gem offer and lack o’ acknowledgement that we already own a special edition is in bad taste.
NOTE: I put o’ instead of “of” due to censor. Hah!
The Balthazar’s weapons SET is not available for one ticket.
Ahahaha, I didn’t even notice that.
Now I wish it were true.
So I did some rough (scrubby) math and determined that at the current drop rate:
1. Assuming roughly 55 of the players on a server at any given time would link it if they got it
2. Assuming on average you’d see 1 link per 5 SW completions
It would take an average of 275 SW completions to get a portal. Now let’s break that down:
1. You’re willing to grind through 5 SW completions per day
2. You manage to tag twice the events/mobs the average player does
1 week = 25% chance to get into the beta
2 weeks = 50% chance to get into the beta The update says “a week or longer”
Keep in mind that this does not mean 25-50% of the playerbase will get in. It’s just a number of hope/despair for the very very dedicated.
Also keep in mind that these numbers were all pulled from pure speculation and this post should not be taken seriously at all. I just start typing stuff in whenever I’m holding a calculator. It’s addicting, so sue me.
I’m still hoping that ArenaNet makes positive adjustments as the week goes on. Keep in mind 300 portal getters does not make 300 participants
I’d take that suggestion, but then remove the falling part altogether.
I agree that something should be in the game to reduce fall damage, but I’m not on board with it being tied traits at all.
While traits are now hot swappable, they still have this sort of building block feel. They are sort of the foundation of your build. I just don’t see why you’d build based on the one or two unique situations in the game where you’d need to fall extra far.
An item maybe, but not a trait.
They WANT you to believe you have a sister. Seriously though, all of Divinity’s Reach has been lying to you the whole time.
First of all, they let several of us believe we were members of the nobility, yet we have no mansion or house. You can’t be noble whilst living on the streets! (Not that it’s impossible, but the nobles around DR clearly don’t support that kind of culture.)
Secondly, everybody’s responses to us are completely predetermined! We can snap at them, threaten to kill them. We can give them compliments and even flirt with them… YET we ALWAYS arrive at the same outcome! Whatever DR’s secret purpose for us may be, our personality has no sway over it.
Thirdly, if we lie to Logan and tell him we came from Ascalon, Elona or anywhere: HE chooses a sister for us! Last time I had a flashback about my past, I think I came from some place called “Character Creation” or something?
It doesn’t stop there. I saw the way Countess Anise looked at me. The way she spoke to me with that EXQUISITE voice of hers. I knew we had something going that would surely lead to marriage. Then I found out she had teased countless other humans in the same situation I was in! I’m sorry Countess, but bigamy of that magnitude would surely not go unnoticed by the other races.
Sometimes I have dreams that I started it all over as an Asura or a Norn and did pretty much the same thing with my life.

Man, I work out, I eat right, I trim my beard and keep my hair tidy. Brush my teeth and all for what? I only ever get to see this stuff in a mirror! kitten you whoever decided to put my eyes in my head! They should have been out in front of me so I could stare at myself all day!
Eeeeeeeeeeehh
I don’t think you’d like how you’d look with your eye sockets built in that fashion.
Just rotate your camera around from time to time. You can see his/her face that way.
Hide the UI, take a few nice screenshots. Time some emotes to try to get a nice facial expression for the screenshots. Mess with the FoV so you can get a closer/farther view.
You’ve got options.
In other words. Its still going to be A LOT of work using them all for those of us who have been saving/ignoring them.
I mean, some of them show up for work without tools!
I think Gnashblade is paying them to show up that way.
Yeah so I have like 2,000 SPs and I hope there’s added a more no-brainer spammable recipe that I can do without market watching.
Wait a minute! You mean the handsome human thief isn’t into THIS (attachment) anymore!?
Try not to have a kitten, they say…
Humans are so predictable, they say…
Buy a “Great lucky ram lantern” on TP for like 8g, it’s level 80 exotic with selectable stats. Cheers!
Nope, don’t do it. Last time I checked:
The crafted level 78s, when upgraded are VERY close to ascended stats.
Exotic level 80 back items actually have lesser stats, even with level 80 upgrades.
If the crafted level 78s could receive level 80 upgrades, they would probably exceed ascended stats.
It’s weird, I know.
- Broken for 2 years… you can impress all the youngin’s with your tales of yore and ye olden times… you have a dim memory of how things used to be, long, long, ago.
Not a trait, but broken since release – ranger sword AA. You get to regale the forums with the progression of responses from Anet.
Players: Sword auto roots you in place so that you can’t dodge.
Anet: No, it doesn’t.
Players: Here’s video proof it does, indeed, root you in place.
Anet: Well, it’s not supposed to. We’ll get that fixed.
Players: Any progress on sword auto?
Anet: We’re working on a solution.
Players: How’s that sword auto fix coming?
Anet: It’s fixed!
Players: Sword auto still roots you in place!
Anet: But, AQUAMAN patch!
Players: Sword auto is still broken guys….
Anet: We’ll work on a proper fix.
Players: How’s that sword auto fix coming?
Anet: The rooting is a feature, not a bug.
Oh stop it!
You’re making me cry.
If you’ve spent a good amount of time with the game, have learned the mechanics of the game, are capable of completing a dungeon, have more than 5 gold or even just know how to dodge:
You can become the antagonist to some new-player-hero out there.
Don’t try to actually learn anything about the game if you don’t want to be labeled an “elitist.”
The strafe speed reduction is a balance thing. In the beta you could go faster, but it was possible to to run endlessly in tight circles with a ranged weapon and become pretty much immune to melee.
How much you care about traits may fall into what kind of gamer you are.
During a talk, Richard Garfield (game designer Magic the Gathering) divided game players into two groups: Honers and Innovators. Honers want the best results and will use the proven builds to get them. They will adopt the strategy proven most successful and try to hone it to its most perfect usage. Honers play to win and are not happy with any failure. Honers want to perfect known situations. If a really important trait broke… they would probably switch to a different profession while the first one is broken.
Innovators on the other hand want to explore the big strategic ideas offered by the game. They are the ones who get excited by concepts and possibilities and working things out. Innovators are driven less by success, and more by the process of developing. When their build works they are happy, if it fails, it leads to more tinkering. For the innovators, the choices that other people scoff at or call worthless may be the key to an interesting new tactic.
“Most games are owned by the honer.”
Yeah but that’s Magic. MMOs have a third group.
They are the people who WANT to be innovators, but don’t actually put effort toward innovating.
They:
As far as I’m concerned, most do so little I probably wouldn’t even notice.
There was an update, long ago, that removed all the traits I had selected on my warrior. Took me a long time to see the difference and check it out. She was a little weaker but it wasn’t a big difference.
I noticed I wasn’t one shotting everything in Queensdale on my level 80 ranger and I had to go fix that immediately.
