Ohoni, I do think there are players who do want exclusive fancy things to denote that they are a more skillful player than those without the items. These players do feel they are more worthy than you and they want the items to prove it. Note I didn’t say all “hard content” players are like this but there are some that are.
I am just curious what success rate “hard content” should allow. Will it be hard content if 15 percent of the community get legendary armor? How about 10 percent of the community? Does anyone have an opinion on what they see as an acceptable percentage of players being able to get this stuff? For it to really be “hard content” what should the percentage be?
When people were calling for “hard content” was it truly for the difficult gameplay or the exclusivity? I feel that there are some really dedicated players who honestly want to be challenged to the utmost of their skills. On the other hand, I also feel there is another element of players who are intent on creating an exclusive “caste system” within the game. I think that the second category of players is what causes all the hard feelings about legendary armor being gated behind these raids. If this is truly going to be “hard content” a lot of people will try but only a few should succeed…. right?
I am curious to know what percentage of the community can actually achieve legendary armor. Let’s say that 60% of the community did achieve that goal. If that happened, would raids be deemed a failure as “hard content”. I see a lot of posts saying people choose not to acquire legendary armor but is it a choice or will the content be too hard for most of the community? Just curious as to your thoughts out there. Should the content be too hard for most of the community or should it be achievable once the mechanics are known?

I think the developers have taken a great risk with raids. If they truly are going to be incredibly difficult, I think only a small percentage of players will continue to do them. However if Anet gives in and nerfs the difficulty of raids then the hardcore elitists will be ranting and probably abandoning raids as well. Anet has staked a lot on this raid content and they need the numbers to show it wasn’t a mistake. Nerfing dungeons is to me a sign that the developers are nervous about their reception. They’ve gated legendary armor and unique minis to further sweeten the pot for raids. I just hope that raids and fractals will not be the only places to get good loot.
Take away legendary armor from raids and I bet there wouldn’t be a ton of players playing it because of the good core content either.
It doesn't make any sense. It just doesn't.

Dungeon reward nerfs aren’t speculation. They are fact.
Smacks of pay to win…. just a little
Will players who don’t own HoT be able to have fractal masteries? If not then players who don’t own HoT will be at a disadvantage in fractals. Nerfing dungeons seems like a punishment to those players who bought the core game but haven’t bought the expansion. Yes, fractals was part of the core game but with HoT fractals masteries this makes it different.
I don’t even do dungeons, but I think it is wrong that they are nerfing them. This redirecting of loot in favor of HoT content doesn’t sit well with me. No need to nerf the loot just make HoT loot comparible.
I see this as an attempt to funnel players into the content that the developers have chosen to push. Raids and fractals are what the developers want you to play and this is a way to punish those who don’t choose to follow along.
Sure is funny that suddenly dungeons are negatively impacting the economy. Oh and it just so happens that the expansion is about to get released. hmmmmmmmm……
What is negative about dungeons?
Taking away something that is popular is just dumb. Also, if it was a support issue they would have totally taken it away. They didn’t do that they just nuked the rewards. That is pretty telling. If they can’t support dungeons, why do they continue to exist? This is a blatant attempt to cajole people into buying HoT. This is a big screw you to people who bought the original game but haven’t bought HoT.
Does this mean that ectos from rares is going to be nerfed?
Buy HoT!!! Buy more gems!! Buy HoT!!! Buy more gems!! Buy HoT!! Buy more gems!! We are changing the economy up a little.
Terrible decision by Anet. I am always against loot nerfs. I don’t even do dungeons but there are plenty of people who play the content. Why would they want to discourage people participating in game content? This is a cowardly way to funnel people into fractal and raid content. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Silverwastes also get nerfed as it is core content. I hope that doesn’t happen as it would be another low blow to those who haven’t bought HoT. Anet please don’t use nerfs as a way to cajole players to buy HoT.
Sheesh….. The raiders also want forum exclusivity!!
Just want to let the devs know how much I enjoy the new pets. Great job!! My personal favorite is the bristleback…. it’s just so dang cute.. On a side note there is a bug involving the bristleback when you use signet of the wild that makes a gigantic bristleback. After seeing the giant bristleback, I think you should incorporate one of those as a champ or boss somewhere in the new zones. Thanks again for the pets and ty for unlocking them in the beta.
If raids stay a peripheral part of gw2, I agree with you op. If raids become the emphasis of later content I will disagree. I would say that the vast majority of gw2 players have never reached lvl 50 fractals. From what I am to understand, raids are supposed to be harder than that. If raids are truly going to stay really really hard a vast majority of players will be missing out on some gw2 lore(yes I know they can watch a run through on youtube or something but that is not the same thing as experiencing it in gameplay). Raids seem to be Anet’s new shiny toy and I really hope it doesn’t come to dominate future content. They’ve already locked legendary armor and exclusive minis behind raids. That’s fine but save some nice things for players who won’t be raiding please.
I still say you might as well nerf dungeon rewards if disproportionate rewards are your concern. Speed runners have no trouble taking dungeons down in 10 minutes. They got their meta gear and take advantage of all the exploits. So why not call for a nerf of dungeon loot?? …. Once again though I am against nerfing loot from any area. I am just making a comparison between another area that is being farmed. Instead of nerfing loot, raise loot chances in areas. If Anet does indeed end up nerfing the Silverwastes it could be seen as an attempt to coerce players that haven’t bought HoT by nerfing one of the few lucrative openworld maps.
Coulter, your chickenkitten comments are not productive to the discussion either. You seem to be threatened when someone disagrees with you. Is that why you result to the catty insults? I can make insulting comments as well, but my reason for doing it is the outrage I felt at how you lashed out at someone asking a question.
They might as well nerf dungeon rewards also… Players can speedrun dungeons in 5-10 minutes…. That would also be disproportionate loot for the effort… but I am against nerfing… how about boosting loot elsewhere… This is just seems like another attempt by the hardcore crowd to pidgeonhole all the good loot.
No!!!! Don’t nerf SW…. just make the HoT maps equivalent in loot….. Stop the nerfing!!! Don’t make closed instances the only way to get good loot.
I think raids are Anet’s new shiny toy, and it will be the targeted content. I hope I am wrong but considering legendary armor, exclusive skins, exclusive minis, and a whole lot of lore gated behind these raids it seems to be their target content. I hope I am wrong about this. If raids are truly “challenging content” and they are harder than high level fractals this means that a small percentage of the community will be doing them. It would be sad if most of the targeted content was for the small minority.
Yeah, let’s take a zone that is popular and nerf it. That really makes a lot of sense. It is one of the few zones that encourages teamwork across the entire map. Instead of calling for a reward nerf, how about asking that other zones receive an increase in loot? Loot shouldn’t be hidden behind instanced activities.
Why would you want Silverwastes nerfed???? You got your raids. Why can’t you be happy with that? Is it that you want raids to have the cornerstone on good loot?? Raids are already getting legendary armor and exclusive skins and minis…. Anet, please ignore the op suggestion!
Druids actually were more known for their harmful medicines than their beneficial ones….. People weren’t flocking to the druids for miraculous healing but their enemies feared their harmful potions and poisons.
Someone earlier said that this spec was right on target with what real druids were…. I disagree. .. Druids were not reknowned healers… They had holistic medicine but that is quite different with what we see in this game.
Real druids were not reknowned as healers.
I admit to being gw1 ignorant so if druids were great healers in gw1 then I think the name is okay.
It’s a great spec but never heard of druids being reknowned healers.
It looks like to me that Anet wanted a healer class and just slapped on the druid name and a couple of random vines and flowers on it.
Reminds me of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons back in the day. Rangers after a certain level could use druid spells… Guess they are taking a page out of d&d
Heck, put a merchant in Lion’s Arch and sell those armors with prices akin to T3 cultural armor.
I just don’t understand (aside from the marketing gimmicks) why they just don’t leave them available to be bought all the time. Why remove them. We need more armor choices as players not less.
Godmoney….. didn’t mean to mistype your name
Once again, I understand the concept of predatory business practices. We already had that discussion earlier. I will spell it out for you again. I don’t understand the move to eliminate the armors from the gem store to limit choice for new players aside from the sole reason being marketing gimmicks. I was trying to give Anet the benefit of the doubt, but I see I have to drag the whole ugly marketing thing back out for you Godofmoney.
This is not an I hate outfits thread. This thread is about Anet’s poor move of removing armor from the gem store. Unless they are going to move these within the game where a merchant will sell them to you I don’t understand the reasoning. We have an influx of new players and I don’t see the logic in removing skin choices for them. I mean it’s not like we will be getting any new gem armors to replace them. Why limit player’s chance to be creative with armor mixing and matching?
They could have removed all of the outfits. That would get rid of the clutter.
Okay, here goes. More armor less outfits. I hope Anet listens to that.
They have been around for a long time, but they will be fresh choices for newer players.
Of course it isn’t nearly as important as a drug to save your life. No one is arguing that. It is still a tactic that preys on consumers fears that they might not have another chance to get these armors for a looonnngggg time so they rush to buy it. Why does the company limit choices. I don’t see any logical reason for it besides the gimmick.
If they introduced more armor I would spend.
I spend money on the game but not on outfits.
I do speak with my money. I don’t buy outfits.
I’m aware of the concept. That your conditioned to accept it speaks volumes about you, Godofmoney. Creating false scarcity is a predatory business practice. If Anet want to make money they should do it with the quality of their products not these marketing gimmicks.
Whatever happened to “the customer is always right” as a business practice. Just because marketing classes promote predatory business practices doesn’t mean I should applaud businesses for using them.
I’m sure you’ve learned to suck it up but the issue is not bad marketing strategy. The issue is limiting armor choices especially now that we have an influx of new players. Seems like a bad idea.
