I will define it as false advertising if any of those 16 legendary weapons attatched to the legendary journies entry is put behind a 2nd expansion paywall.

Not everyone in Guild Wars 2 was going to have access to legendary journies and you know it. So adding the weapons to the game meant HoT

So the marketing trick is to combine content that will be released at launch with content that will be released AFTER launch in advertisements and teasers about the expansion to make the expansion look more attractive…….. then deny that advertised content released after launch is part of the expansion

hmmmmmm…… I really hope that isn’t the way they operate.

“until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game”……… What game are they talking about when this statement was released? Wasn’t the core game…… Wasn’t a second expansion because that didn’t exist….. seems to me to be HoT. Remember legendary journies was a much hyped part of HoT and this 16 number was attatched to the legendary journies entry( legendary journies being a HoT thing and all)

I will say again that buyers should be wary when Anet starts giving you features for the next expansion.

I just hope that Anet avoids the hype train this time around. Anet, please don’t hype content that doesn’t come day 1 from the new expansion. I am tired of the “was too much for the staff to handle” tricks.

Be very wary of pre-ordering. I learned my lesson.

I wonder if op is aware that Anet implemented a patch in the spring of 2016 to actually make HoT easier. This was done because of complaints of many gw2 players. It seems to me that it would make terrible business sense to implement ops ideas.

Unfortunately, Anet listened only to a small section of the playerbase…. I am sure a lot of the playerbase wasn’t even aware of the CDI back in the day…… Lots of the ideas for HoT came directly from the CDI and I sure don’t think HoT represents the wishes of the entire playerbase.

so if HoT is what we got by Anet listening to the playerbase……. I wish they wouldn’t listen to the playerbase

I suggest taking another long break from the game. You might never feel the need to return and that is okay. That just means that the game wasn’t good enough to keep you playing. I’m sure you can find something else to play that will entertain you more.

There was a rather enigmatic statement made a while ago by either Anet or Ncsoft that “they had learned their lesson with HoT” ….

I am rather curious to see with the next expansion what those lessons were.

My perspective is that it is the vertical maps that ruin the experience for a lot of gamers. I know a lot of people enjoy them but a lot of people don’t. I enjoy the convenience of flat maps. I am not forced to “run through hoops” to get somewhere. Bounce on this mushroom, find this updraft, etc…… On a flat map, I could just go where I want(yes, I might have to platform a little to get a vista or something but that is fine)

I’ve gamed for years but I wouldn’t say a broad range of games. Dragon age, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls(not the mmo), Dragon’s Dogma, Fable, Red Dead redemption, Kingdoms of Amalur. I’ve played way more but these are games that provide the style of map I am looking for in a game. Core gw2 maps pretty much corresponded to this style(exceptions being rata sum, the grove, black citadel, dry top)

I understand at this point that people are so split on flat vs vertical maps that we are debating just for the debate. I am not trying to get vertical maps removed from the game. If this game was made just for me there would be no vertical maps but I have empathy for my fellow gw2 players that enjoy these maps.

My point is that HoT is not overly difficult it is just irksome.

The difference is in HoT the entire map feels like an obstacle course….. I will grant you Dry Top seemed transitional…….. but none of the other core maps come close to the player vs map rigor that goes with HoT

I would advise taking another break from gw2. If you’re not enjoying the game, it really doesn’t matter how much you have invested in it. Who knows you might find something else and never come back to this game. You are either going to miss the game or you are not.

I don’t agree….. I think HoT was a massive change from core gw2……. This has nothing to do with difficulty of enemies…… The game became more of a player vs map game. The HoT maps have an obstacle course feel to them…………

Not to mention the many changes of other components(guild influence system changed, gated content, nintento style adventures, farming requirements increased from core game)

Dashingsteel.3410

The idea of an expansion is change(new lands, new stories, new encounters, new armors and weapons, new races, etc…….. These things keep the game from stagnating

I am just not in favor of reworking the game into something else(majority flat map game turned into majority vertical map game in expansion, influence based guild turned into mat and gold sink based guild system, etc.)

I was looking for a more content oriented expansion than a game rework expansion

Of course no game is perfect, but I believe that the complaint was that someone finds a game they like and then an expansion comes along an fundamentally changes the game in such a manner that it is no longer enjoyable.

What is wrong in asking or expecting for more of the same in an expansion?

I’ve made my way around the vertical maps and I still don’t enjoy them as much as flat maps. I think Skor.4652 finds vertical maps at their very essence less enjoyable than flat maps. Again, it is a matter of game taste.

The topic of this thread is “What I’d like to see in the next expansion” The op even says feel free to respond. A poster on this thread says that they would like wvw to get some attention and that an elite is not going to convince him to spend 50 dollars. The poster did express some negativity on Anet’s inclination to cater to wvw but so what?

The op berates said poster claiming that the topic isn’t about wvw. Last time I looked wvw is still part of this game and supposedly will be after the next expansion drops.

@op……. Please don’t bring “safespace” bullcrap on to the forums. You are NOT the moderator. Don’t ask for responses if you are not prepared for thinking that differs from your own.

As far as what I’d like to see in the expansion, it would be for Anet to deliver any advertised content of the next expansion in a timely manner. If there are features of this expansion to be released after launch, please give a timeline of release to customers and stick to it.

I agree not everyone wants legendary armor so they can lord it over players that don’t have it. I do however think there is a portion of smug, condescending players that do. These are the same types who rapidly respond to forum entries with “git gud” or “plebs” etc……. So I see where people might resent this type of attitude getting rewarded.

Mastery points

Dashingsteel.3410

I detest mastery points. It is a haphazard system of forcing you into content you might not like. There is really no logical reason for them. These mastery point activities usually don’t even correspond to the mastery you are achieving.

You character could spend the next 10 years in the HoT maps without learning the language, lore or skills needed to survive in the jungle, but do one idiotic adventure and now he or she suddenly might understand a language………

In my opinion, experience alone should be all that is needed to fill each mastery bar.

Legendary armor obtainable without raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dashingsteel.3410

Dashingsteel.3410

Long before HoT launched legendary armor had been discussed by the community as something that would be cool for the game. In contrast, the subjects of gear grind, mounts, and raids always generated strong negative feelings among the community. Many players even stated outright that they had made gw2 their home because they left games that had raids and raiding culture.

With all of this as context, Anet has the brilliant idea to gate one of the most desired “shinies” behind raids. For a company who supposedly listens to the community they were incredibly tone deaf with this decision. Please note that I am not blaming people who enjoy raiding, this is solely on Anet management.

I propose that Anet go the route of legendary weapons. Just like dungeon tracks in pvp they could incorporate raid tracks.

To compensate raiders perhaps Anet could design a unique and exclusive backpiece like they did for pvp and fractals.

@AliamRationem…….. It seems to me that the community is split pretty evenly on vertical maps vs flat maps. While I don’t like vertical maps(because of its incompatibility with the minimap), I understand that a lot of people enjoy them.

I just don’t want future maps to be all vertical maps. I think at this point Anet would be well served mixing it up to keep both sides happy.

Hopefully there will be no hype train this time around. It didn’t end up well for them last time. Perhaps with betatesting they might preview requirements. I remember the 400 hero point requirement being sprung on the community one week before release of HoT.

Perhaps those kind of things could be avoided with this expansion.
