You never stated what kind of toughness you where talking about, just “enhanced”.
Get 2K toughness and I can assure you that you’ll be able to take noticably more hits than with <1K.
Seems like any build that actually needs much skill to play well gets nerfed whilst failing to address many central issues, such as rangers being half a class in so many situations- no other class loses half it’s damage so often and in so many situation…
… Except of course Mesmers, which loose about as much damage when their illusions get killed.
All the figures people blurt out assume a dedicated and traited build which often sacrifice something else (ie survivability). 5K? At least you can stop attacking and not get hit by it, or you can cleanse it. A Theif can spec to hit for 5K on auto-attack. As can a Warrior. Does anyone complain about the strenght of Warrior auto-attack? Can you cleanse Warrior autoattack?
On my defensivly specced glamour Mesmer, my staff hit for about 200 per auto-attack. Two freakin hundred damage. On any other class that kind of damage would be unacceptable. But no, Mesmers take that because they rely on other methods to do damage, phantasms, shatters and confusion.
I have to say, congratulations to all sides, who managed to bring so many people into Stonemist. Skills had about 30s-1m delay (if they popped at all). It was so bad that auto-attack didnt work properly. Hell, even the waypoint lagged out – SM was not contested despite what must have been 200+ people inside the lord room.
Pop 3 staff clones and you can put up pretty good stacks of bleeding, and burning on top of that.
It take a Mesmer longer to put up 3 staff clones than it take a Thief to do 100K damage.
So yeah…
wvw organized groups. u funny.
wvw is liek casual pve/pvp.
Not for guilds. What’s this game called again?
Glamour mesmers are extremely tanky while at the same time dealing extreme amounts of damage. That’s not how thieves function.
Are you saying that a toughness/condition thief with a shortbow doesnt deal AoE damage while being very tanky and stealthy? The theif still has this option, its just that not many choose it.
Different builds, different things. A BS theif is an extreme example, just like a confusion Mesmer is. And the BS theif does 10x single target dps than the AoE based Mesmer.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Agreed. At the moment I am only seeing about 40% boobage on my Norn. I want 100% boobage. Now.
To compensate, they definitely should reduce the thief bs damage by half.
But then how are new players that pick the thief going to gank experienced players applying confusion to them? Half the damage would mean less confusion damage! You would only boost the thief against this horrible invisible insta-killing condition!
Theives need more damage instead to compensate, like 30K backstabs. If they are foolish enough to dare try to do a 30K backstab and recieve like 3K damage from confusion, they bloody well deserve it.
As an engi with no confidtion damage or duration (cleric gear) running around with 10-15 stacks of might i could easily get 700+ damage per tick with a prybar. Confusion itself is really strong in actual WvW. Like someone mentionned earlier, if the only condition you have on you is confusion, you can either not use a skill nor dodge (even more important when specced for something on dodge), but try that in WvW when you get hit by like 5-6 different conditions. Not all classes/builds run 5+ cond removal and we cant choose what condition we want off. If I get hit by a 12 confusion stack burst and I need to grab my medkit + drop antidote + hope I get confusion off, meanwhile im being constantly hit, I get 2 confusion procs if im lucky and the extra damage dealt… I’m sorry, but the l2p argument is not a good one, it does way too much damage as is.
Wait, did you just argue for or against it?
Because confusion is everything the Mesmer has and its easily cleansed by condition removal, unlike an Engineer that apply so many conditions you get dizzy.
The only competitive spec that would have avoided the nerf hammer would be phantasm builds.
Dont worry, I am fairly sure the patch will break at least one phantasm.
Scepter was worthless before so it wont really change much. They might as well remove the scepter from the Mesmer now and give us something fun, like an axe or something.
I didn’t level a Necro for its ability to fear and certainly didn’t level a ranger for its ability to immobilize. I did both because I enjoyed all around gameplay/mechanics.
Unfair comparison since neither does actual damage, ie what you need to play the game.
Imagine if they went out and said Necro wells will have 50% damage instead. You think the Necros would complain? No? Yes? It would effectivly destroy a well build. Just like this change destroys a confusion build.
So to make things fair:
- Guardian burning damage reduced by 50%
- Theif backstab and heartseeker reduced by 50%
- Engineer grenade trait to throw 1 less grenade instead of 1 extra
- Necromancer wells get a 100% longer cooldowns
- Elementalist get 100% longer cooldown on attunements
- Warrior Greatsword skill 2 changed to “Feint” which doesnt do any damage but apply 1 stack of confusion
- Ranger pets have 50% HP
make the whole not-killing-stuff thing worth it, in my opinion.
And often you’re not really “non-killing” either. In a good game, I can get 10+ kills listed without ever dying. Of course I didnt really kill them all, but one still get the score. A good team will support its bunkers, that’s how they themselves win. I cant even remember all thetimes when I am lumbering towards 3 players, only to see something like a thief zip past, unleash a hailstorm of damage and die… Before I even engaged.
I even see the same behaviour in WvW – the other day we where 3 randoms that engaged a dolly, there where 2 theives there. What happens? Well the theives pummel the other two and kill them both before I can say “Why are you loosing hitpo…”. I am left fighting them alone for like 3 minutes before finally dying (the theives knew what they where doing, that much was noticable). Had we been 3 bunkers, we would have killed them both or at least made them run. But alas… Berzerkurderper :p

removing 1 condition doesn’t destroy a class.
Except when that condition is one of the few real conditions the class have and part of a core build…
The other things dont sound too bad, but I think the confusion nerf will hit the Mesmer HARD (and to some degree, the engineer). I have zero condition damage (PVT) but even then, as a glamour build confusion is a vital part of doing damage. I would honestly just prefer if they altered it to work like burning or something, just add duration instead of stacking.
I was in the queue since the kitten reset. Everyone else seems to get in fine or with 5-10 min queue, but I gave up after 2 hours.
Noticed the same behaviour – I queued for about 30m, one guildie queued for 10m and a third for 1h 30m. Fun part? The third started queuing before both me and 10m queue guy had even logged on… From inside BB border, while we did it in PvE (border usually give priority).
So yeah, queues are kittened again.
Had some nice battles in EB vs River and BB. Didnt manage to take SM for Piken though
Aurora and Augery might as well give up, you’ll never pass Gandalf.
What do you focus on then? just staying alive? wait for back up to arrive? bit boring honestly.
Mesmer is such a unique class and extremely fun to play with even shatter mesmers can be really tanky.Btw, mesmers can take on 3 players as well…
Hey you play what’s fun to you. The focus is on staying alive, yes. That’s what you need in tPvP unless you have a specific focus (like glasscannon backstabbing theives). I find the dueling fun, its when I fight a really good player for half the match that I enjoy PvP the most. Bad players die regardless of your spec anyway. Dying or killing quickly is the most boring thing in the game. I use the same spec in random sPvP because I’m lazy.
Berzerkurderpers melt but sometimes you meet some gems. Like a dagger/dagger Elementalist I met yesterday. Nasty little bugger, but very skilled (he had double my ranking I saw later). We fought for quite some time at a high pace (so many stuns, ugh) but he couldnt kill me and I couldnt kill him either. It was literally about popping the right skill at the right tim. Even when we re-engaged a couple of times people died around us but our battles was epic, lol. Most enjoyable.
Or they could just give us an option to sell them for a 50% return of badges so we can get the seige we want on the character we want it on, albeit at a loss.
Phantasms, shatters, pff I dont really care to focus on that when playing PvP. Get around 2K toughness, ~22K HP, GS+Staff, decoy, mirror images, whatever, mass invis. Trait defensivly.
If someone kill you, they are either a good player or 3+ at the same time. Or quite possibly another Mesmer.
Removing the AOE limit would be a good thing for every skill except for the ranger skill with the arrow shower. It would be too over powered. It would be fine for arrow carts since they are a siege weapon for defense after all.
Arrow cart and siege is already “uncapped” (20-25 or whatever it is).
You don’t have any badges? You can buy siege with badges.
Of course you can. You can also get it from the JP or from laurels (cant remember if you can get it from guild marks too). That’s beside the point. The point is that getting into a keep would require a currency/resources. IE the ones with it get it easy, the ones without dont get in at all. You block players from doing it.
Having a damage cap on the gate would just negate the zerg aspect. 5 or 50 people bashing down a door – roughly the same speed at which you bring down the HP (ie very, very, very slowly). But those 5 people still CAN do it without having resources, if the defenders let them. The focus of getting through a door is on siege if you really want to take the keep fast enough not to have enemies constantly drop in. When an actual zerg attacks, the cap would just give a minor boost to damage compared to siege, the more siege you bring the less it will matter.
Its important to “get the ball rolling” in WvW, sort of speak. Anyone, even a group of level 1 noobs that’s never been in WvW before, should be able to take a keep (unlikely that they succeed, but you get the idea).
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
1. Removing the cap would probably break the game even more. Zerg strength would multiply exponentially, put more players against less enemies to win automatically. The only thing it would “prevent” is balling up in small groups on a small area. Which is kind of stupid, since that’s Guild gameplay and what many, many enjoy more than zerging.
2. This would cause a problem of economics, ie the rich win every time. Cant afford siege? No keeps for you, cause you cant get in, haha! No. The solution is to introduce a damage cap against gates, ie only say 5 people can damage them at once and after that its “blocked” (but any number of siege can hurt it).
I must say I have never, ever seen anything like it in the chat. Guess I missed when it became too commonplace.
Heavy armour look great. Light and medium… Not so much. Medium coats look like kitten compared to the regular body form
If you have played for 2000 hours you must have gold stored? To gear up a character in full exotics is like 10g… With crafting and dungeons you can probably do it cheaper.
Also the other classes have their own flaws. None are any more or less into “different styles” than a Mesmer. At best, maybe the Engineer can have more varied weapons than the rest with the use of kits (in terms of how different they are).
Is there anything this miracle metal can’t do!?
It cant stay in the same kitten place.
Something has been iffy lately at least. Last night I tried to do AC exp and was having spikes of 30s+ lag inside the dungeon (ie everything stops). I had to leave the group. Never lagged out inside a dungeon before and didnt lag outside the dungeon. LA was just fine, even WvW was perfectly fine.
I came in here expect to see an Engineer solo a keep on primetime defended by 50+ hostiles, I was sorely dissapointed to find a PvE video
Yeah the low levels ones scale pretty badly. But they are getting there. For regular events as well.
The Krait event by Tequila is just Anet trolling us saying “hey you said it was easy? Lets spawn a champion next to this champion and spawn another champion behind you and make each champion spawn 5 veterans while veterans spawn randomly in waves too”.
Legally, you’re not actually playing the game. You are automating an ingame function from a third party action, hence botting.
But then again a cheap Chinese person sitting in your closet farming on your account is a greyzone to begin with. After all, he’s playing.
I got 8 precursors so far. My theory is that some accounts are blessed with pixel luck due to some coding erros or sth like that.
I get 10 times more rares than any person of my guild in Wv3 too.
The funny thing is… I know this to be true. Two examples:
There are people in our guild that always get rares from loot chest, ie its working properly.
Then there are people that never get rares from loot chests, only white items. Every. Single. Time.
There’s been people in the guild that could not go past Silver event completion. Even when doing events that other guild members easily got Gold for at the same time by sneezing at mobs. Even when soloing events.
The reward and loot system is in other words, completely random. Wait maybe that’s working as intended? :/
And trully theese guys passed me solo fighting 1 or 2 ppl like 10 x this week:P
It’s either eHonor, or they’ve got somewhere more important to get to and their commander is ordering “DON’T CHASE”.
But yeah, nice when people don’t interfere with duels.
To be exact I think its a certain guild commander that start yelling at you if you leave formation. You can use it to your advantage and harass RG sometimes. Making them turn around and kill you should be an ingame achievement, lol. Did the same to Sin the other day in the dredge tunnels.
PS is becoming just another blobb server. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky with zone choices, but the days of guilds running solo on PS are more or less over.
Since I’m not a good politican with words like Troma, I added a pic.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/90/gw021x.jpg/
Well at least half of the people are there just because someone saw an enemy player with “[RG]” on a nearby wall.
I’ve also noticed that human females in revealing clothing get targeted more vs. conservatively dressed ones.
… still totaly worth it.
Play how you want but they shouldn’t reward people like YOU for running with the herd and spamming 1 whilst lagging out everything within 1000m of you.
Maybe it’s time to upgrade your computer and connection because mine runs just fine.
Skill lag when blobs meet is a fact… You can even tell when a zerg is nearby by responsivness (and framerates for that matter) tanking, when you havent even it yet. Stone mist center is the most noticable example. 100+ inside – hilarious 2+ hours battles of 30s-1min skill delay. Enemies cant hurt you and you cant hurt them.
Yes, I also hate it when you cant player in the same dungeon.
As it look now in my oppinion, if you interested in condition dmg, setup a team of 7-12 ppl and marry a necro.
… Well that escalated quickly.
Skilllag. (Anet should make a new legendary with that name).
WvW is endgame just as much as the last zones in PvE is endgame. IE its just something you dont want to do until you’re max level.
What does the necro offer in terms of dungeon support? I cant really think of anything.
nice fight in Hills tonight, RG, was a really good one, GG
cya on the battlefield.
Did you eventually wipe them? I left mid battle, lol.
Was fun earlier outside the inner gate to run my Mesmer straight into them solo after harassing them up the hill, haha. I survived like 10 seconds running randomly about. Then I think someone got angry because the entire group suddenly went to stomp me
Sure they could. They probably wont though.
They’ve stated before that they want to encourage people to play together, not discourage them.
So they won’t make it less rewarding to play in a larger team.
If Anet want people to play together, why are we limited to 5 man squads in WvW, huh? They encourage small teams by having this limit.
Why on earth its even there is another matter…
I dont know about you but I would gladly welcome PvP drawing a crowd. They play it if they find it fun, I get less queues in WvW. Win win for everybody.
The staff is based around avoidance (teleport back on short cd) and the GS is better the further away from the target you are… So neither is a good option if its melee you want. Pick sword/focus as your primary and get a feel for the other weapons. Getting them all as yellows is cheap. Thing is, both the staff and the greatsword offer great features. The gs wins in small size combat but if you run with a 25man guild, staff is supreme (AoE bomb with 5/feedback and plow into the enemy).
Go for the immortal mesmer build: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-The-Immortal-Mesmer-Build/first
My gear isnt quite complete but I did a simple test with the “immortal mesmer build” by running solo into the center of 30ish Red Guard and I’m sorry to say, its not really immortal. That’s just false advertisement. But I survived for over 10ish seconds so I still approve :p
Focus I’m sort of 50/50 on it – one one hand the reflect is great, but at the same time there are many situations when it is not useful for the iWarden, and also times when TC is not positioned for reflecting purposes or when you hit Into the Void immediately. If you’ve already got that many points in Inspiration anyway then of course it is well worth traiting for.
All true, but the focus is so good on its own I would recommend all Mesmers to carry it in WvW (the only exception being if you just have to have greatsword+staff for some obscure reason). The trait comes natural then, assuming you specced down the line. If you havent, well then its no point debating it :p
