MF doesn’t work with chests so I absolutely detest when people use MF in dungeons. You will be doing nothing but leech and will have to be carried, so don’t do it.
Thats what they say, except everytime I use mf gear and loot chests I seem to get noticably better drops for some reason… except for the three dragons, they always give more crap than a random skelk accidentally falling on your sword :/
Anyway, when you are roaming the world, yes definetly worth it. You can make “cheap” 150% mf gear with yellows and probably make up for the investment within days, thats how noticable the drop rate can be, especially during zerg events.
I fail to see what that would prove to anyone.
He’s not an amazing commander until he has led a zerg over a cliff to their deaths anyway.
Any military training is also overrated. Just have someone to look up to and mimic. Like Megatron.
Personally I think the nameplates can stay but kitten remove the nameplates of dead players.
WvW is more fun if you don’t use siege (according to some random WvW guild in gandara)
A while ago we had this bug that made us unable to build any siege except golems.
Many, many people on my server (which isnt Gandara) thought it was fantastic fun. Finally it was players vs players even inside keeps, no stupid 10+ arrowcarts raining down death 5 miles from the keep.
The fact that only siege golems could be used also meant that we had to split up and consider the “supply line” of portalling golems all over the place and their protection. The cost of them meant we couldnt just slap up a million of them at a keep either, it was valuable resources.
It actually felt like GW2 was designed to play like that.
Some people have a tendancy to read to much from a commander tag when in fact, it doesnt really mean anything.
Yes there are really good commanders that use it to the max, employing excellent strategy, tactics in 30+ man guild groups or even zergs.
But that’s not really needed. Most of the time, people just need a gathering point. He just have to lead the pugs or they would be scattered all over the map doing nothing good at all. A few unorganized individuals cant do all that much.
This is really noticable when you get in the situation when there is a guild commander running around in a raid but no other commander on the map. It dont work that well. You need that secondary pug commander but his skill doesnt really matter. The one that step up is more often than not target for ridicule than anything else, by those that think they are better but dont step up. Cowards I say.
… arrowcarts.
I want less animals and many, many more patrolling guards. It should feel like areas are controlled by a faction, not just be random cap locations in the middle of nowhere where are couple of guards are lazily sleeping on their post.
If you want a fairly cheap quality keyboard (in comparison) then its Steelseries all the way. 6Gv2 Black or 6Gv2 Red, take your pick as both use 100% Cherry switches. Red require slightly less pressure to push than black. Personally I use the black switches (red wasnt an option when I bought it anyway), its just so smooth to use.
All those $100+ so called “gaming” keyboards are just kittenty fluff. Most also use the blue/brown switches which are laughable. No I dont want to hear clickclickclickclickclick all the time. Razer in particular as suggested above is one of these fluffy clicky keyboards. I’ve had Razer before and… Razer is crap.

I’ve heard Anet intends to make precursors craftable. If so, this would be a big help to those already having issues with getting the T6 dust required.
Awesome! A bloodstone shard, 250/250 ori crafting material and 20,000 crystaline dusts sounds good?
- Altaholism is a curse. My advice is to find something that feel “good enough” and stick with it. For example, I used to be die-hard Engineer, but after being unable to match WvW, PvE and dungeons specs I switched to Warrior (must have 400+ levels by now), then I switched again to Guardian and it was great fun, but in the end I landed on the Mesmer. Its not perfect, but its fun to play with melee, magic and ranged and it share some design with a Guardian (reflections and support) that make it fun in WvW raids.
- Both classes are good in WvW, Warrior is kind of crummy in PvP though. Both are required in WvW raids – the Mesmer for its support skills and the Warrior for his CC and frontlining.
- Engineer I think. Because people cant handle the awesome.
A genuine question to those RS who steamrolled our borderland late yesterday afternoon. Do you actually enjoy romping over half your number in easymode capping of T1 structures? Or, like me, does it leave a rather stale taste in your mouth and you do it purely for the easy Wxp and points?
I thought the answer was pretty obvious, since they clearly enjoyed playing just PvE during the night?
Anyway, ze Germans knew what they where doing. They took the opportunity to do this on a Swedish national holiday. We cant control WvW every day, especially not when drunk and/or hungover
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
TBH I am wondering the same thing. My Mesmer can run into a group of 10 with damage numbers flying all over the places and get zero loot. My Warrior accidentally sneeze in the direction of the same mobs and loot come raining down. Sometimes I do like 500 damage on a mob and get a rare from it, sometimes I solo 3 veterans from 100 to 0 and get exactly nil. Dont even get me started on a guardian popping staff, he can be asleep and still get tons of loot in a single sweep. Engineer is like “lawl flamethrower” followed by tripping over riches.
Its really wierd when a game make you feel that the more skills you pop and the more damage you do, the less loot you get. Its probably just RNG, but still that’s how it feel.
If Anet intended us to kill the mobs, then skipping the mobs is exploiting. You are seriously not going to tell me that they placed all those mobs in Arah for the sole purpose of finding some way to avoid them…
Exploits are used because:
- Mobs give kittenty rewards to the point its not even worth killing them
- Mobs have a bazillion hitpoints and tedius mechanics
- Instances that are designed just to take time and toy with the patience of the player rather than be fun (harpy fractal prime design example, or swamp).
- Oh and did I forget to mention that mobs dont have any loot worth killing them for?
Make instances fun and worth it and you’ll see the level of exploits drop considerably. Skip all the mobs up to Lupicus by exploiting the left path you say? Give each of them a very high chance to drop 1-3 T6 dusts and you’ll have a whole community foaming at the mouth.
Well, im neither a farmer nor a gem buyer so I take a pretty sideline stance on this. I tend to play the game for fun only, collecting materials and gold as I go. Yes it does mean im a poor player, however I try and be a extremely happy one at that.
HOWEVER, what I fail to grasp is why Anet nerfs every open world farming area into the ground yet CoF P1 hasn’t changed since release. They advocate farming gold while restrict farming specific materials.
Now thats kittening ridiculous.
Because Anet doesnt want to “fix” it. Face facts, they dont care.
Just look at the Dredge fractal. They fixed the exploit with the cage which shorten it by exactly… nothing, since its about as fast as running the buttons, just a little less tedius. Obviously it was a severe enough exploit for them to fix!
But… Did they do anything else to the Dredge fractal? Anything at all? Like, fixing the godkitten awfull mechanic that literally force you to die multiple times just to complete the fractal? No. Apparently they are happy with how kittenty it plays, they just fix those horrible exploits that clearly ruin it. I am sure that Anet just dances through the instance, never dying on the buttons, always surviving putting bombs by the door.
I am starting to think that by playing some obscure profession with a weird build in a certain way you unlock Anet mode, where you do 10K auto-attack damage and have 50,000+ HP with permanent protection up.
VU again tell a story about how there were only 30+ ,when in fact they are always moving in blob with another raid and have more than 70+?
LolGive us a break. We run for about 2 hours on our own with about 25 people. At our raid end we have been asked to support the current map-commander to support him tapping the bay.
Thats why we joint together for this one action to counter your massive blob.So be cool now and stop flaming
Its all about fun guys ^^
That is actually incredibly flattering, considering the “massive blob” in the zone (ie FG, the only sizeable guild there) had roughly the same numbers. When we won, it was mostly tactics, not numbers. We got the better of you this entire evening, except when the 60+ blob gave us little option but to attack (cant exactly flee it, except I did survive lol). VU nearly managed to wipe FG at the hills left walls due to having high ground and siege – the only reason we won was because hills was untagged and we could quickly regroup by respawning.
Anyway, wtf was Gunnar doing in bay in Piken border, lol? You had 30+ if not more people inside and Piken had less than 10 random people inside on a PUG commander. You cleared us easily on the hill, yet you didnt attack inner (we didnt really expect to win, we just wanted to fight). After that we where just standing on the wall observing you. When you ran out everyone was just lulwat?!?! and ran out after despite knowing full well that your 3x size group would wipe us again.
I honestly think that is the first time an enemy guild has literally bored me to death.
Dont worry guys, Anet want us to farm! Thats why they never stealthnerf anything, such as the karka on the southsun lowlands. I am sure the massive reduction in numbers and respawn rate is a… “bugfix”…
you only get it for doing 10+
This is what they get for nerfing open world farming spots into oblivion. Sure, you can farm COF for money, but who is going to sell the mats you need on the TP with that money? This is getting out of hand.
Unfortunetly, its what we get.
Anyway, its pretty kittened with the drop rate overall. First, you have to get a drop period – that’s ~30-40% of the mobs you kill. Then you have to get a T6 mat. I’m guessing that’s somewhere around 5% of the these mobs that actually drop loot.
To make Bifrost by farming and not buying… You’d probably have to kill ~40,000 mobs that has a chance to drop dust. Welcome to no-life!
Sidenote: For those saying “oh but its just for legendary, its visuals only, no one care!”. How about reading up on dust… Dust is used in many recipes, including everyday consumables. NONE of the other T6 mats are used that way.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
i don t even want to count hours played and yellows/exotic/gold wasted in MF……
That led me to think for some players its easier to get each fotm skin that any precursor….
Infact i miss only few.
It most definetly is. A guildie got two fractal daggers on his thief. Sure it took like 2 months of daily 48 or something, but that’s nothing compared to a precursor.
TBH its kind of wierd the way droprate for them is designed… They should be far more common. You need another 1000 gold just for the other part of a legendary anyway.
But alas, they’ve promised us a scavenger hunt for so long now its not going to happen.
only the info shouldn’t be announce before updating the patch?
How it works:
- Anet lets us know they have an update coming.
- Anet posts a preview page for the event/update.
- Anet posts the actual page for most info.
- Anet either
a. Updates the game and quickly posts release notes
b. Posts release notes and updates the gameThere are variations, but generally I think this is how it is done. Be patient, even devs need to sleep.
Yes… except that the game just updated 50mb+ and there is nothing on twitter, nothing on the forum and nothing on the frontpage.
Since last weekend:
~6300 rares into the forge
returned
395 exotics (all level 80)
0 precursorsEither the odds of getting a precursor are significantly less than 0.3%, or I’m having bad luck for the ages (odds of not hitting at least 1 precursor after that many forges are 400:1 against).
Isnt that enough gold to buy like 3 precursors, lol?
We already know thakittens pure rng luck to get them.
Whisper base maybe?
i’m interested to see who is going to win. riverside was very very powerfull on weekend, or at least on start of weekend. but piken doesnt seem out of the game at all, their comeback on sunday evening was madness and i expect them to have the tick lead throughout most of the week. might be a close game if riverside can secure their lead for a bit. we gunnars are going to enjoy the show and try to hit whoever is busy in the back
GG!
oh I think everyone knew Riverside would win since we saw we faced them. Unless they somehow stop playing entirerly, they will probably still have the nights and the days. Outscoring them a couple of hours isnt enough.
We don’t have PS and RS numbers so we’re a bit more careful about choosing our fights.
3 hours ago PS still had the outmanned buff on GH borderland.
Either we are less than you think or you are more than you think :p
(RS is of course another story)
Dont think you will get any objections from Piken! We had great fun when the siege was broken. Not sure if Augery and BB thought the same :/
I believe the technical term for what Anet did with the AC range is legikitten.
Yes that is RNG indeed. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of bonus chests I’ve opened… I have gotten a single exotic.
And I am certain that behind the black censoring rectangle you have an outmanned debuff? But never mind, I understand that some people need to keep their class and skillset a secret. Someone might steal them.
Elementalist without a doubt.
Having a quaggan with a pitchfork by your side is better than a Ranger.
Yeah I don’t get where you saw that a veteran team couldn’t do it “much faster” than 40 minutes.. 40 minutes is a lot more than 15.
40 minutes is what it takes for a veteran team to do.. path 4. Which is the longest dungeon path of the game.
By “veteran” I mean people that has done the path before and know what they are doing.
Not a 5 man elite speedrun farmer squad. Doing path 3 in 15 minutes is completely unrealistic for most groups – not to say its impossible, it just wont happen with a player that asks which path in Arah that’s best for farming, as an example.
There are no “spots” for gold farming. The only thing that bring constant stable income in the open PvE world is ori/sapling mining and crafting for multiple characters. With 5 chars you can make 6-8 gold in an hour or two (per day). Unfortunetly, Anet are being kitten and move around the nodes every day. Otherwise, its all about CoF1 or at the moment, instigator farming in Southsun.
The strongest roaming duo is… Thief/Thief.
The tanky Mesmer doesnt become good until you reach a 5 man squad IMO.
Riverside had weak presence on their borderland this evening, plenty of small groups and we had lots of fun fighting them. I was thinking “could they really have changed?”
But then close to midnight when most had gone for the night a 50+ zerg attacked cragtop and put down offensive siege when the wall just came down and the keep is defended by half a dozen people.
Thank god you’re OK Riverside, was beginning to suspect something was wrong.
Its an interesting place… but who could breach it? 8 champions would require 200+ players, lol.
You forgot Tier EU – Where every EU server are bunched together because no one cares to compare them to European football.
Has it ever occured to anyone that Anet actually made this matchup on purpose to try to lure Riverside out of their keeps and have some fun with the rest of us?
I mean its pretty obvious. If you want to lure someone out, you need easy bait.
Maybe both Piken and Gunnar should just take off all armour and /dance naked in front of Riverside keeps to play like Anet intended us to play?
Its actually a fairly simple puzzle – jump the first set of stones until you get to ledge. Jump on the ledge and wait for the next “reset”. Jump the second set of stones to the overpass area. From there, jump the third set of stones all the way till they go into the hillside again and pause for a moment. Note that in the middle of this sequence, there will be a rock that you miss! You have to be quick and jump up and continue the sequence. The fourth set of stones is very short, you just go up them to the ship.
After thakittens smooth sailing. Forward across the ship, up the hillside stones (easy to see), over the entire hillside and down on the platforms along the hill.
And there you go, one puzzle chest. Go inside the boat and to the left to get to the island.
OR you could just ask a mesmer to port. Another way to cheat halfway is to check if any mesmer is there trying to jump the stones – they will more than likely use portal if they should fall, then you can go up with them.
I’ve been curious about how the devs intended us to “handle” that particular sequence as well, aside the obvious tactic of leaving one behind or stacking by one of the entrances.
Even at fractals <20 they repair the sigil way to fast unless you do flawless manouvers back and forth. You cant exactly ignore the mobs either because some of them hit pretty kitten hard.
Not to mention its sort of wierd to have a dps race in a dungeon that heavily promotes gearing towards staying alive.
Bring a Mesmer, pretty sure Feedback cools down faster than his pulls. All his pulls are reflected, and your teammates don’t get wasted by his spin2win.
Since the pull timer was random last time I checked, cd is probably not as fast. That said, he’s real easy no matter the class.
You basicly got 4 options – dodge, aegis, stability or block. All classes can dodge.
My favorite tactic as a Warrior on Kholer is simply to equip the shield and facetank him.
Yes, you probably want path 3. Its also one of the more requested paths, so easier to get groups for it.
The path is pretty simple. First boss is easy as crap if everyone know how to handle it. Groups that wipe you might as well leave right away cause you’re going to have a painfull experience. Then its just a buttload of mob skipping. Stealth is preferable. Second boss is kittened if not bugged as he cant even damage a group that know where to stand. The globes are the most annoying part because they have been bugged since release (it wont always grab on toss). A Mesmer here help ALOT, as will a Guardian to carry the globe. Lupicus is… Lupicus. Annoying no matter the path, time consuming but overall easy to handle. I’ve seen half-decent groups wipe 4 times on the first boss and go through Lupicus like its a walk in the park. Final sequence is once again mob skipping and then an easy final boss as long as there are a couple of good players that can grab aggro in the first sequence.
40 minutes is my record time for random pugs (with a veteran team you can do faster, but not much), expect at least 1.5h. I hate it when people get to Lupicus and say “oh but I have no more time, I thought we where going to be finished as fast as CoF1, bye!”.
When you do Arah, make time.
While I patch.. can I get a quick definition of “small scale”? We’ve had a few slight mismatches with our opponents descriptions recently on that front
Personally I would say 10-20 is small scale, while 30ish is what a strong guild can field as max. Anything more and its either a blob or a very overpowering T1 guild. Anything less than 10 is just a roaming group.
For Riverside, its somewhere around 50 for small scale keep defense I think.
Well so far this matchup has felt like Piken vs Riverside vs Riverside Arrowcarts.
Well, not to long ago I dug out both Dusk and Dawn from the mystic toilet and decided to make Bifrost. Because pretty much all sta kitten look like kitten (Modnir is IMO the only good looking cheap staff that have some sort of effect). There are so many great looking greatswords/swords in comparison, even the “cheap” ones (50g+, personally I use Firebringer) have some sort of effect. I wish there was a mist staff, but no.
How about just one skill that create an illusionary thief already in stealth, which proceed to spike you (gets quickness on default) and automatically respawn you at the nearest waypoint.
Saves everyone the trouble.
… why would you choose ranger for anything?!?!?!
Anyway, ignoring the fact the ranger sucks, its all a matter how you want to command. The Commander dorito doesnt suddenly grant you the power of Greyskull and make you able to understand wtf Sun Tzu was babbling about. If you dont care and want it for small groups, you can be anything you want.
Zerker ranger is of course a waste of a class, but you can still command.
Mesmers work great in both small and large groups and the ability to support your own zerg with veil/portal is extremely good.
If you want random huge pug zergs, you probably want Guardian or Warrior. If nothing else, you need those blocks and immune when your own zerg flee behind you.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
It is a tiny sample, yes. But I bet that thousands of other players will say that they experience the same thing. It was just an example, not statistical proof of anything.
If you want to compare champions, take the dragon chests as prime example. What do they drop? Absolute crap in most cases – some blues, a green or two and that’s it. You have to kill at least a dozen dragons to have a chance at getting a single rare (ignoring guaranteed) which is absolutely horrible loot rate if you consider the total time it take to actually kill them. You can run CoF1 like 200 times before going through the spawns of these dragons.
Does it get better with +MF? Sure it does. Apparently according to Anet, all of us should run with +200% MF. Maybe then a yellow drop every 3rd dragon instead, yay.
… Want to bet that we are just months away from a new living story that introduce MF gear for gems?
Nope. It would be the tenth time players stand on their soap box to complain about a nerf that doesn’t exist, due to lack of knowledge about statistics. This community loves lying through their teeth about drop rates. Most do it out of sheer ignorance, a few do it to artificially increase the price of items they are selling in the TP.
True, but that doesnt really change the fact that loot drops are way too random.
If I kill 5 level 80 veterans standing around in Cursed what should I get? How do I reason?
An exotic? No, that’s very rare even in dungeons. Great if it drops, but not expected at all even with high MF chance.
A rare? Well it is 5 high level veterans, so chances should be decent that one of them drop a rare piece. But as with exotic, not really expected.
A green? I would totally expect that, yes. I would even expect a couple of them.
A blue? Given, veterans should have a high chance of giving you minimal loot in terms of either blue crap or some silver.
T5-6 material? Should be high chance to get T5 and over 5 veterans, decent chance to get a T6 as well.
Now… What did I actually get? A couple of porus bones from one of the veterans, the other 4 doesnt have any loot.
That’s how kittened up this game is on the basic loot level.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Badges? I’ve got thousands of the kitten things. Is there some sort of use for them?
(I just KNOW somebody is going to tell me ‘you can buy seige’ )
… If you dont want them then buy siege and drop 50 rams in doorways or something.
Anyway, if you run with a random 20+ group and engage other groups of 20+ its probably around 20-30 badges an hour. The most I have gotten in an evening is around 100 badges for a couple of hours work. I dont even wvw that much, but overall, its not that hard to get them ever since Anet boosted droprate by ALOT.
Last year you where lucky to get like 5 badges in an hour :S
