Dont care. Got giant boobs.
Wait did you a soulbound superior rune dropped from a chest?!
Oh.
I see you have encountered a bug and should report it in the bug section.
Loot isnt supposed to drop from chests.
Look, if you dont know what profession to choose yet, you havent run in zergs enough, followed existing commanders or have a guild to form a base.
So there is only one viable profession. Necromancer.
Dont have friends? Did you choose the wrong commander profession? Summon your own followers and light up that screen with name tags. The enemy will be like “Oh no theres 20 guys over there, fleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” and you’ll be like “HAHAHA I R TEH BEST COMMANDEER EVAR!!!”
btw how do you pronounce piken? pie-ken or peek-ken?
Does it matter? I think people use both, lol.
Anyway, yesterday we had some very nice fights with a small all-Charr guild called PPP (SFR). Very skilled players, obviously very optimised group. Much respect to their fighting style. Then today, /laugh after they roll you with 5 players. All that respect lost. Funny how things change quickly.
The suicide banner would be a passive effect on everyone around you right? It woukd be a great way to clear pugs out of a guild group
I find it annoying how we had a clear lead in potential points for about 6 hours straight after reset, then we went to sleep and now check the scores lol, somewhat demotivating.
In the morning Piken did not looked that bad, but hey you should not sleep till 14:00 CEST
if you want points.
Piken rarely wakes up before 19:00.
Old age and booze you know.
Noticed the difference instantly, completely different class of players/zergs than what Piken faced earlier with Drakkar/Ranik, lol. But it was nice, seemed mostly even, at least on Elona border. It’ll come down to coverage.
So you want to design wvw to get away from zerging but due to the technical limitations of your servers and the effect they have on aoe limitations you can’t? And yes 5 player cap on aoe means it is easier to group up to reduce damage and cc.
And no AoE limitation would only mean zergs become even larger clusters of AoE ranged characters in order to be overpowering. Is that supposed to be preferable to guilds melee clashing?
Either way a commander usually run around AoE – the ball is there to ensure there is force in the attack just as much as it is a means of protection. But you dont run into ten million necro circles laughing “we’re 20 haha they can only hit 5!” just for kittens and giggles.
Dont forget that color and description should be customizable as well. Then it become possible to organize while having visible tags. Like a red tag that says “WoW Guild Raid” or one thats blue and says “Here be PUGs”, etc.
You dont have to hardcode invisible guild tags – make it a social part of the WvW overhead map instead.
It should be a simple matter for ANET considering everything they have added to WvW since release, but no. They completely ignore it.

Leaving them in downed state my kitten , the lootbag is MINE!
It wont be enough.
Face facts, SS wont be viable until its turned into a quest chain like all the other world boss events. Capture town A, capture town B, capture town C, karka spawn 1 minute later. 3h+-1h later town A become contested and you can repeat the event chain.
Yes its true. As an example, Mass Invisibility affect 10 people, not 5. Arrowcarts hit 25 people if I recall correctly. I dont know them all.
Another question, is it really better to rally all of the people in a map and take territories one by one? I was thinking maybe it’s good to make like 3 groups or something then coordinate into taking several points at once since the NPCs get Righteous Indignation for a while anyway..
No its not better. In fact, it usually leads to you loosing most of things on a map to smaller groups. Sure it will roll over anything it finds, but as soon as the other servers catch on they easily avoid the zerg train.
One of the most effective way to control a map is to have a pug zerg, a larger guild group and multiple smaller support guilds. Roamers dont really count as they will always be there. If the pug zerg is commanded by someone from the larger guild group the combo become very powerfull – the guild control the pug zerg while not having so many interfering with the actual guild group.
Its when you miss aspects of this it become troublesome. Without smaller guild groups, your forces wont be spread out enough to control the map. Without a large guild group, you have nothing to counter enemy guilds that has similar numbers. Without a commander tagged pug zerg, people will be unfocused and scattered.
In regards to the subject the real question is why arent thieves put in jail as soon as they join the game?
They are criminals after all. Its in their nature, its the name of the class. Why is the Lionguard just standing there looking daft when a thief run by? They dont even need to stealth past them!!!
Its an outrage I say.
For me, I don’t really like balling up.. The zerg drowns the recognition of individuals aside from maybe the commander.. In open field fights you can tell which person did well by killing several enemies or something..
The entire point of good commanders balling up is that the sum of coordinated players/classes is more than simply stacking players/random classes on top of each other. I enjoy small 5v5 battles and the like just as much as the next guy, but 30 people working for a common goal with a common leader that is both well respect and skilled at commanding is definetly something else. When the entire group does well after an intense battle against just as good people, you wont be missing that “recognition” you seek.
If you are one of those that consider invidially killing other players as “skill”, then sure I understand why you dont like it. 9 out of 10 theives and berserkerderper warriors will surely agree with you.

More likely than not you will “unlock” the rewards with achievement point thresholds and then “purchase” them for ectos and gold.
That wouldnt make sense, since the news state you can get currency rewards. Buy gold for ectos and gold?
I just hope its worth it. I’m still missing a truckload of gold for a precursor but it wouldnt surprise me the slightest if its “Hey you got 7000 acheivement points? Wow, that’s alot! Here’s, have this mansize heavy super quality bag of golden coins for your effort!”. Opens bag – 59 silver and 400 karma.
We all know what Anets definition of reward is.
All classes have a roll to play – yes even the thieves and rangers to a small, almost pathetic degree.
What you DO need to roll is survival. A Mesmer is light armour but can be a critical part of the melee pain train. I main a melee train built Mesmer and I punch through enemy lines as good as a guardian – 2000+ toughness sort of help. Even a thief can do this, though most people just go berserkurderper and cry when they get insta-killed. People that generally cry over melee trains are not specced for survival. There is a distinct difference when you engage them… Damage oriented builds just melt and cant even get away from the initial attack (which is critical).
The way to actually deal with melee trains is scatter, range, hit the backline, then slowly wear them down. Even Red Guard has fallen to pugs.
Best to stay out of EB then :/
At least ANET could have had the decency to bring back the siege bug instead so we could have had a week of fun, rather than making a new annoying bug that will probably end up in thousands of reports.
Unfortunetly you cant change the zerg. If you go into combat with 5 peeps, 10 come and kill you. If you bring 15 the next time, 25 come and kill you instead. If you bring 30, you start roflstomping 15 peeps. Which only mean those 25 and 15 combine to 40 and start rolling you. Etc and so on. We can try to to small groups… But it will inevitably fail.
Anyway, it was decent fun on Drakkar border this evening, except that most groups Piken met got rolled easily because they hesitated and their lines broke quickly. I think both Drakkar and Ranik seriously underestimate their own strength. Or are running with way too many berserkers, I dont know. There where so many why didnt they just attack and crush us? moments. Come on, dont be shy, smash into the enemy lines! It wont hurt. Much.
HAH! could be…could be… but, how about you learn how to play so you can use ranger effectivily.
What, you mean like introducing your herbivore pet to a Sylvari Ranger kind of effective?
Here, I made a much simpler one: http://poll.pollcode.com/97nll
Is there a good balance between offense and defense?
Good balance? That’s personal preference. Some prefer more damage, some prefer more survivability. Your idea of “balance” probably isnt the same as mine.
My “balanced” WvW non-condition survival build has roughly the following stats as a guideline:
1800 power
1500 precision
2000 toughness
1500 vitality
~50% crit damage
When randomly roaming I run with my PvE armor, which goes down to roughly 1600 toughness while boosting precision, crit damage and magic find.
But really, the success in combat depends just as much on who you meet and what build they use. I’ve met a single thief that owned me so hard and I’ve met two theives that I lolled at while loosing no HP at all to their silly daggerstorms. Like killing babies.
There is little balance in random encounters no matter what build you use.
you don’t get my post at all, please read it again. I just named a location in GW2 where it’s difficult to see what’s going on because of objects (here: trees).
Yes you did and I mentioned the reason why its not a forest. Its an orchard. With very, very small trees in comparison to what you generally find in a forest. Like in the picture I posted to compare Hellion Forest, where you dont have any such visibility issues. Two entirely different concepts of design.
If you call an orchard a forest you might as well call a vineyard a swamp.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
well they have to get rid of the camera-issues before adding very tense forests. Try doing the skill-point in the borderlands near the windmill where a lot of spiders attack you. It’s quite difficult to see anything relevant during battle when you’re playing a profession who needs to look down due to aoe-placing.
Lol, that’s your definition of a forest??? Its an orchard! Barely big enough to be called trees, its freakin bushes.
Compare with Hellion forest. I have no problem with my max size Norn.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Depends on your zergs and your guild groups, not to mention the opposition. IMO roaming its ALOT slower to level in wvw than it is in pve. Many of the hearts you rush through and complete events at the same time.
You also got Hellion Forest in Iron Marches. Very dark, very moody. Not that big though, but it shows that the engine is more than capable of making a good looking forest with a dense canopy.
Lol I was running in EB yesterday when suddenly I was rooted. My immiediate response was of course “OMG kittenED RANGER!” but then I realized there was only friendlies around. My next thought was “oh yeah the oakhearts” but there was no one near. I smash ed the root, looked to my right… and saw a puny little transparent oakheart looking lost and confused. I thought a ranger had just abandoned it there.
where are the piken small scale groups? i alsways see piken zergs
pls help me to find them
If you cant see them, it usually mean they are in other areas than where the Kodash/AR zergs run. Sorry.
It’s not scapegoating at all. Sample size is a REAL factor. Killing something 10 times and saying the results are significant is a joke.
That is true. But if a scenario goes like this:
Day 1: Get 2 rares within 15 minutes of joining the game, then only get crappy greys for 1h+
Day 2: Get 2 rares within 15 minutes of joining the game, then only get crappy greys for 1h+
Day 3: Get 2 rares within 15 minutes of joining the game, then only get crappy greys for 1h+
Etc and so on
… You dont start to see a pattern? Really? I repeated the same thing in WvW yesterday. I had 74% MF then (started shifting to some berserkers since I use it in PvE, heh) and had no queue, so I joined quickly upon launching the game. Guess what I got from the FIRST NPC I killed? Yep, a yellow. Guess what I got 10 minutes later from like the 3rd or 4th player kill (hey it was a slow evening)? Yep, ANOTHER yellow. Guess what I got the next hour I played (which included jumping zones)? Absolutely nothing. No more yellows, barely any greens. Bags and greys and blues aplenty. And hell, that’s even rare for WvW, I often get greens on my zero MF characters which almost never get rares.
I still dont think MF is useless, I just think the DR and RNG swinging from full blast to down the kittenter is messed up.
This evening on Piken border we ran into 4-5 fellow Pikeneers standing opposed to 1 red guy (I believe it was a BLAK dude) doing pretty much nothing at that time. After we rolled him it was “omg duelling noobs!!!”. Unfortunetly I didnt catch the Piken guild tags.
kitten at least have the decency to duel by the windwill if you just have to duel in a WvW zone, not east of bay in the middle of a freakin zerg warzone. Or even better, go to the kitten jump puzzle and duel because the zone already had 1h queues for fellow guildies that actually wanted to play WvW with the rest of us.
Jormag bugged to take longer time? FANTASTIC!!!
Because the mobs he spawn give 100x better loot than the stupid chest of blues, especially if you have MF they have a fair chance to drop lodestones.
Play smart indeed, know what gives the loot – the dragon doesnt, he’s just a little sidenote to the event.
If you want to look like a beast, then its Plated all the way. On a male Norn it look like he can walk through a reinforced gate.
BUT the best looking armor IMO is still the Vigil one. Tough luck if you didnt pick it :/
http://www.gw2armor.com/norn/male/heavy_list.php
there you can also see where to get the pieces. Transmute anything below exotic of course.
Well then I guess I stand corrected, its always been on another level of awesome. Learn something new about the Mesmer every day and I have played it for so long
Edit: eh guess you cant remove a thread. But you can troll the first post and confuse everyone looking, ha!
Are you sure its no change pyro? MoP 1 sec cooldown, compared to 20, 20, 25 (I think it is) for the other mantras? 3000 healing every 5 seconds (with 400 extra toughness 2 of those seconds) is definetly not trash. Note that I am talking about the ZERO COOLDOWN here.
If there is no change I must have missed it all along :/
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
With my build I get 2400+ toughness during the channel, heal for 2800 HP and do about 1200 damage on crit.
Screw the damage, the healing beats everything, lol.
You’re a Necro, just look at them and they fall over dead. And even if they take a while to die, you cant die anyway.
Had you been a Ranger, I could have understood your frustration. Just whisper sweet nothings in the ears of your pet while you slice its throat and hold it close. Then do the same to yourself and log back on with the Necro.
… Yes because its not like maintenance oils and sharpening stones has existed since the launch of the game. Its been slowly coming for a year.
I believe the saying is “fool me once and you have to wait until the next salary to get more money”?
The queue exists to limit larger servers in wvw. It seems dumb because of the old wvw ranking system. But with the slightly more random match up system that they’ve switched over to the queue will stop a complete take over of every map by servers who have overwhelmingly higher populations.
Eh what? The so called “queue” system hasnt changed since the release of the game. The new matchup system has nothing to do with it.
Honestly, I haven’t seen lag at all since the second round of improvements they made.
Then you must not play wvw enough or only use autoattack. I dont think anyone can avoid noticing skills that doesnt work when there is no one around you. Just today I was running out from a borderland spawn (maybe 10 random players there) and popped temp curtain for speed. Nothing happened. Did it again. Nothing. On the 10th try, the curtain pops some 10m behind me. Yeah… I was alone when running out and saw neither friendly nor foe.
Lets not even begin to discuss what happen in 50v50 zerg clashes inside Stonemist.
If you havent seen this then congratulations, you’re the eqvivalent of finding a precursor.
Haha portal bombing… Forget about it. Unless your forces outman the enemy by ALOT, a portal bomb is going to be crushed. But then it was fairly pointless to begin with.
Using portals for manouvering is vastly underrated though.
There is no point, because GW2 does not have queues. Players are put in random clusters that the game then take random groups of players from when WvW go below a certain percentage of full.
And this has nothing to do with skill lag.
Oh thank God the light armour looks hideous compared to medium and heavy (heavy in particular look awesome). Wont have to spend time and money getting it then.
You are seriously overthinking it. Its simple: Make stomping a player an attack.
Attacks cause anyone to drop out of stealth, period.
I can only hope that DR is based solely on a players duration in a defined ‘area’ to prevent them from monopolizing specific spots. Maybe how you describe it IS what is happening, but it’s so unbelieveable to me when I see how other stats in the game are handled.
Doubt it. The DR seems incredibly harsh – or areas are bugged.
Yesterday, I started the game, equip my MF gear (~100%) and oh look, Golem Mark II is about to start. What loot do I get from 3 or 4 containers I attacked? 2 yellows, many greens and blues, ingredients and bags. It was like loot heaven in a very short period. Even without the rares, the loot was good.
When the golem is done (got crap from the chest of course) I see that Melandru has started. I jump to Orr and start to kill the countless Risen spawning as they move to the beacons (and of course fight the mandatory invisible mobs at the second beacon). What do I get? Barbs. Spikes. Bones. Grey gear. A blue or two. That is all. Seriously, it was like night and day in terms of loot. Its just not possible to be THAT unlucky to get grey crap from 9 out of 10 looted bodies. Especially not event mobs.
My only conclusion is that DR hit hard and fast from the moment I entered Orr, based on the fact I had already found 2 rares in a very short time period in another zone (10 minutes) :/

Its a money sink unless you get lucky with the TP prices. The only way you can “earn” money by crafting is getting the raw materials yourself and sell what you craft. Such as farming orichalcum and making blades/hilts/whatever. If you got like 5 characters, you make maybe ~6-8g for a couple of hours work. You may earn something with the more expensive weapons (30-100g+), but this assumes someone actually buy them.
I still think they should bring back the event where a dragon (Shatterer I believe it was?) launched a full scale invasion on Plains of Ashford, corrupting players and allowed us to engage other players in open world combat as the two sides duked it out.
But this time preferably without Eir and Rytlock running around insta-killing every player that they see.
Well, personally I think its great that a class has something that make it “necessary” in WvW. All classes should have this.
Well except the ranger, they would be useless regardless.
Retal killing a thief ? The bullcrap sure is strong with this thread. Against some condition p/d builds who attack a lot, retal can be a nuisance, but never a problem. These days I just swap to sword and steal the retal when I’m fighting a player with high retal uptime.
Indeed. People saying pop retal and laugh at the thief dont know how retal works. Its NOT a percentage based on the damage a character do – hit for 10K or 1K, retaliation will still do 300ish damage. The faster he hits, the more retal he get of course but its STILL only low damage for each hit.
For those curious, its been up on the wiki all along:
Damage dealt depends on the level and power of the Retaliation’s source (i.e. whoever gave Retaliation to the entity being attacked). At level 80 this is: 198.45 + (0.075 * Power)
