Well one can look at it from another perspective as well – tiny clones mean its easy to look past them. Huge clones block your oponents view with bigger shatter effects.
I dont have an Asuran Mesmer, but I do have a max size Norn and to be honest, I really havent found myself at a disadvantage. Better players kill me, worse players get killed. Even Asuran Mesmers. Yes you can duck behind lower objects a bit better in WvW compared to a tall character but that’s about it. Your nametag is generally so wide it shows anyway (people trying to hide behind things or by walls in WvW is laughable most of the time).
GvG and ZvZ? No such things in GW2.
Anyway, the sword is a bit slow to swing, but sure it works in the frontlines. Going from a Warrior to a Mesmer is quite fun when you still have the option to smash into enemy lines. Cant do as much direct damage as a sword/axe/whatever Warrior at the same kind of toughness, but you got other perks.
Regardless of class, I say:
- If you can take a “primary” weapon cd trait within your spec, then by all means take it.
- Confirm that it doesnt conflict with a “critical” trait within your spec needing to be in just that slot, if so ignore the weapon cd trait.
- If it has any other use than the cd, it may be a “critical” trait. Such as the mesmer focus trait. Its just too good to pass if spec down that line. Warrior Warhorn trait in WvW is similar, to take an example.
And that’s pretty much it. If you are a berzerkurderper then you probably want a weapon cd trait and build around that. Any other build need not bother.
Pugs require a very tanky commander to be effective. Otherwise its a random ranged rabble zerg that’s going to get crushed by smaller forces. Guilds can get away with pretty much anything, but even there a tanky commander is good IMO. In terms of classes, its down to personal preference. All of them can make tanky builds.
Would be nice to know, and I dont really understand why would Anet want this secret…
Its one of those mysteries that we never get an answer to… Like queues. We could balance borderlands/EB queues ourselves (“Aw its 500 in queue for EB, maybe I should queue for green border where its just 10 in queue?”).
But no. Anet wants to torment players by keeping them in the dark. Its the only logical conclusion. They want to break apart guilds just to spite us. Why else would we not have queue info after nearly a year since the betas began? Because of “limitations” in the current system? Yeah… Just like the stated “limitation” of not being able reset WvW at different times for EU and NA, it was impossible as stated by the devs…. Oh wait o.O

I just have two reasons for being a Norn.
Two big reasons really.
Two big and bouncy reasons.
Says the Guardian that didnt loose a single hp…
A Mesmer on the defensive can both avoid and soak up quite a bit of damage. It can match the Guardian in nearly every aspect. Now, if 8 players is on the Mesmer and all 8 dies in 5 seconds, then you can start to wonder if its legit. Because any defensive spec does fairly low damage overall.
Now, tell me again how much that Mesmer hurt your poor little Guardian?
Do you really think that PS, with the one or two extra guilds it just got, can move to T1?
Guilds are actually moving to T3 servers because the tier is offering great fights. I don’t think any guild that transfered is interested in creating a new ‘mega server’ you’re talking about.
They may not be creating a “mega server” intentionally, but there sure are ALOT of new guilds on Piken and it has the same effect. Most arent so bad, but I really dislike the Russian ones that cant even honor English in the map chat, no matter how poor that English is. Unless I completely misunderstood it and it was roleplayers trying to speak native Charr or something. Its hard to tell on Piken.
These people are so sad to be honest. Us mesmers have to do everything for em. What they can’t dodge a few boulders ? If you can get past that point without the help of a mesmer then you suck plain and simple. I would have left right there already.
True. Its just as fast to simply run through, if you know where and how you should never die on the boulders. Using mesmer portal is the lazy way.
MF is just short for “Go ahead and put a bonus RNG value on our RNG so you get more RNG!”.
If you think about it, 150% more random isnt exactly better than just plain random…
Its just a trolling premade. Seen the same although on a smaller scale – two mesmers with near identical names and completely identical looks down to armour coloration and gear. The funny thing is that they are usually not that good players. Most good players prefer to be noticed individually.
Either its a “new” tactic that infiltrators have started using, we’re building more and more siege or Anet has messed something up with the cleaning of old siege from the map. Seem to see this quite often now. Know of at least two recent times this has happened on my server.
The “problem” with crafting and playing the TP is that in order to make money, you have to have money. And even when you get there, its basicly a matter of spending 50s to earn 51s.
If you want by far the simplest method to earn money, then do ore/omnom/sapling runs and craft simple stuff from it – or just sell the raw materials. All you need is level 80 chars (preferable specced for speed). The more character, the more potential earnings per day, since it take a while for the nodes to regen (ie a day). At most I’ve been able to earn 10g in the ~1.5 hours I spent for a run with the chars I have.
GMs in WvW? There arent even GMs in PvE! At least not to my knowledge. I dont think GW2 has the tools to support it. If they do, they’re hiding it well.
Well bombing is one of the most powerful tactic in the game and it require necros… I would even go so far as to say they should be the AoE backbone of any organized group, more so than any other profession.
In terms of solo combat performance they havent really impressed me personally (both playing and facing), but I know some guildes that play them very good anyway.
Was a while since I saw VII in action, but I have to say, excellent play at the SW keep in Piken border. I was the random Mesmer left alone in the keep after guildies signed off and ended up solo defending it with 20ish BB outside (“defending” being a relative term), then you plowed into them. And kept plowing into them, lol. Augery came to join in the fun and you never seemed to hesistate about engaging them despite being heavily outnumbered with even more BB in the back.
I was thouroughly impressed. And got plenty of loot bags as I tagged along for a little while, I’m sure you where too busy fighting to shoo me away :p
Nah its just pure luck. Was going to toss about a dozen crafted rare greatswords (a massive 5g investment, its been a couple of months since I tossed anything in the mystic toilet), got Dusk after the… first attempt. Lol. The RNG gods smiled upon me this day.
Tossing the left over swords into the forge yielded more yellow crap
WvW purpose?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
You mean hear annoying whine of their know-it-all Asurans?
Anyway, WvW serve one purpose: Entertainment. That is all. And its fun. So it serves it well.
Can it stealth?
Then no.
You only get one monthly laurel collection… Either PvE or PvP.
Last month Anet shafted us that already had done the PvP monthly before the patch by bugging it and offering no compensation or a quick fix.
- People threatening to kick others because they are using a less than optimal MH weapon.
What is a MH weapon?
Mainhand…
Anyway, its still kitten the quest for berserkers.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
RNG is indeed RNG.
That said, sometimes I wonder if the loot table is completely kittened up for certain characters. Take WvW and wooden chest drops. Its supposed to contain rare or higher quality drops right? Wrong. Just a couple of days ago I had not one, but two of them drop in the same camp! Oh joy, precious loot! First chest – a white salvageable hide. Second chest – another white salvageable hide. kitten???
I thought it was the nerf to stealth that reduced their number, despite the fact nerf didnt really do anything. People are strange that way.
Blink and Decoy, the 3rd slot is variable.
While I see meaning with Blink (you can move faster when traversing the world), I fail to see the point of Decoy.
What’s peoples logic behind it? Its not like NPCs care if you stealth a couple of seconds. Mirror Images for example would be more effective since it give you 2 for 1, more shatter damage for near equal cooldown (well 5 secs more). Or one could have a phantasm giving damage, damage reduction/condition removal on 1/3rd the cooldown.
(for PvP/WvW its a whole other matter, but this thread was about PvE)
For average PvE its Enchanter, Defender, 50% HP and Timewarp. These are just my “default” skills, I vary them quite often depending on the situation. Why no stun breakers and such? So pointless when mobs need to be at least 5+ to even make your HP go down below 80%.
Also it depends on how you mean “soloing PvE”. Soloing Arah or soloing a group event/champion in a level 20 zone? Or just running through a zone killing a random wolf by accidentally sneezing at it? Yeah it doesnt require any utility slots.
e-Mail from "ArenaNet?" Please read! [merged]
in Account & Technical Support

Got a mail monday (noticed it only today lol) on an Anet investigation that my account has been stolen blablabla… It actually look pretty legit at a glance except a weird introduction “Greetings! It will be ongoing for further investigations by ArenaNet’s employees” (what?) and I can imagine some people falling for it, unfortunetly.
If you just made your Mesmer, then unfortunetly no. There are no tricks. You have to endure until 80, basicly (or at least 40+).
The only thing I can suggest is learn your phantasms and use them extensivly. Target swap! Dont just find one target out of 3 and pump everything on him. Dump one phantasm on one guy, another on the second and focus on the third. Get the +50% HP bonus early on, it help. No they arent going to kill them alone (in fact they can get insta-killed if you’re unlucky), but they will distract them, allow you to deploy constant pressure over the entire group. Fighting with illusions is a rhytm you just have to learn – you aint going to have learned it if you just made a Mesmer.
At 80 you’ll be able to handle 10 or so mobs at the same time if you play your illusions right, hehe.
Siege are as far as I know not effected by the AoE limit though.
I seem to recall them having a limit, but its 25-30ish or something.
Either way, I have seen 2 AC easily stop a 30 man zerg from capping a tower. You only need a little extra support to clean up the mess afterwards.
For what purpose? Are you Anet? Obviously not. GW2 automatically sends an error report to Anet if GW2 crashes, if you so choose. Also, there is a technical issues forum.
Last time I checked, you get WXP from killing, not downing people. And you sure can kill everything. Someone doing mistform is not dead by definition.
Its easily visible when the most hardcore elementalists decide that yes, they must definetly survive and flee at any cost and mistform straight over a cliff giving you free WXP after a couple of seconds.
‘Team spirit, /cheer! But wait, you want me to go with that newer commander who isn’t taking a tower every 5 minutes? Nah, I’m good here, someone else will get that.’
Yes that would be the point. Someone else probably has more team spirit than you and will join him, it all adds up in the end
Try on server reset night, usually lots of easy targets and empty keeps. If you got a guild, just gather a group of 10+ and it should be enough to cap a keep and get the POI. The borderkeeps are the most annoying, but on the other hand if you plan on creating a Legendary you should be able to fund 5 or so guild golems, which will melt a door in about 10 seconds.
Still remember when Red Guard took a border keep on EB in about a minute (double doors) and gave me world exploration as I happily hopped and skipped in behind them
1.) It’ll encourage people to only follow highly ranked commanders. And when certain commanders dominate the commanding during the day, they are going to strech far ahead of others. People would rather follow the rank 10 than the rank 1, when both could be equally skilled.
Shouldnt like… social aspects, team spirit and server communication come in and moderate this?
Like the rank 10 commander saying “oh hey I already have 50 men in my zerg, can some go join that rank 1 that’s only followed by an ugly pet and an even uglier ranger?”.
Either way, skill will have nothing to do with rank, since it will only be a measure of how little you exist IRL.
First: Get to 80, it pretty much change everything regardless of your class. A decent 80 engaging a <30 is like beating a little child, unless by some miracle the lowbie happen to be the perfect class counter with the perfect skill layout.
Second: Get a small group instead of running with the zerg. 5 is good, 10 is a bit better, 15 meh maybe too many now. If the enemy run zergs against you, dont fall into the zerg trap of joining your own zerg. A small group next to a zerg is far more powerfull than a small group inside a zerg – flanking is a military tactic for a very good reason. If 20 people attack from the front, 5 people attack from the rear and 5 people attack from the side, the hostile 30 people will scatter and break unless they are very organized. Not to mention its more fun than seeing two 30 man blobs collide in a big mess.
Third: Find something fun specifically for your class. If you’re a Theif, scout. If you’re a Mesmer, portal. If you’re a Warrior… uh well… you can smash something I guess?
Today i’ve been witness of a wonderful guild: XT. I believe they’re from the Piken Borderlands, and all i can say is that you guys really have sustain. I’m a member of NuKe and had the pleasure to fight you today. All i can say is that i was really surprised of how 20 people could stand an almost complet server such as BB.
We are usually just as surprised from the random Piken side. Earlier yesterday at Cragtop it was a constant “oh no, we’ve lost , a 40+ man tight group is outside!”… “wait, we wiped them?!”
Favorite moment when the commander in Cragtop was commended in the chat for his effort. His response was… “?”

AR Blob in action :
http://s24.postimg.org/v01vp2w3n/gw2.jpgHum sorry, it seem that’s PS…
Oh the horror, a Piken blob is defending its own Garrison against what was presumably a small elite force breaking through?!?!
Oh nvm, there are dead green dots all over the place on the minimap.
Crit chance “decently high”? DPS specced in PvP?!?!
Ya there’s your problem. Try a more balanced design with defensive specs, using the staff and sword/torch (or GS/staff if you want some punch). Your survivability against anything will go through the roof. Also dont forget mirror images and decoy.
Most thieves rely on the initial punch. If you blunt that, they have the stamina of a wet noodle. Keep in mind that you are a Mesmer – master of avoidance. Use it. You should outlive your opponents, not straight up outdps them. You cant outdps a theif if they put effort into it, just not going to happen.
You only need to be scared when you meet a thief that does meh damage.
I do not see anything wrong with being able to ress killed groups. A “dead” group locking down enemies due to the “danger” of being revived is IMO a tactic.
The speed at which you ress downed players in combat is way over the top though. Non dps specced players can barely even outdps 1 person healing, let alone more :/
Auto-attack is used on cooldown, not something you use just for the sake of it. In terms of offensive strength, the GS beat the staff by a longshot. One of the best things it offer is a fairly critical AoE knockback (see those thieves stealth under the house? BAM! No more). Also note that you want to target things in the rear in a zerg – the auto-attack of the GS penetrates all targets before it. Its overall potential dps is leagues above the staff and the spike damage is through the roof.
The staff is best used for defensive purposes. I’d carry GS+Staff in WvW but unfortunetly, you need that focus.
Probably because the lag is considered “fair”. You cant really abuse it and the enemies lag about as much, causing some rather amusing situations where epic battles should have ended ages ago but go on and on and on because no one can pop skills.
I think Anet is aware of the issue, but no solution exist.
Is there any class that isnt OP?
Are ANY of the skills in the game? I’d love to choke another player to death, instakilling him.
Otherwise, the thief has that skill. The Mesmer got a less obvious one instead.
i disagree, if u don’t talk much as a commander u are doing it wrong.
U can’t expect from people that they know wat u trying to do.
explain things beforehand, remember that 90% of those people are playing the game to have fun.
Which means that 90% should be on the same level of thought that you are…
I prefer pug commanders that are there for the overall presence and go with the flow.
I remember one recent example with one that was inside a keep, ready to outside and attack the ones assaulting. It was a constant hail of “on me, on me, gather on me!!!”. Even when he had most people in the keep, he still demanded all on him. I was constantly thinking “just go out the door already, we’ll jump them from above at the same time and take them in the rear!”. But oh no, we couldnt be on the wall. We had to be with him. It was painfull to see as half the pug literally jumped around out of impatiance. It could have ended badly, lol.
He should have just went to the door and said “we go in 5” or something.
What guild commanders do is a whole other matter of course.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
That’s a horrible exploit! But what are they going to attack there???
Oh right…
Siege exploiting the ability to shoot through the same gate.
NVM.
I dont know, it was sort of amusing seeing 2 Champions and 10+ Veterans wreck complete havoc by the lab for the first time.
Before it was like “Oh is that 5 regular mob coming to att – wait they’re dead”
Note that focus is kitten for mobility – it doesnt stack. A single mesmer cannot maintain swiftness for the group and two or more will need to be coordinated or break each others speed. You want Warriors with horns for easy perma swiftness.
I recommend getting glamour cooldown and focus reflect traits. But you can build however you want.
I would prefer if the silly animals was replaced by a far bigger presence of guard patrols (that doesnt go down in seconds).
Its a function in the game, so its legit. They cant ban people for putting a skill on autocast.
They can however fix the kitten autokick function to take it into consideration.
People in RG were sick of the 100 man blobs and the stupid skill-lag it creates. That’s why we went to AR, because we want good fights.
So you went to the server that has blobbed the most in the tier? That is… logical… I guess… please teach them how to blob less :p
