Well, at least something good has come from it. Piken now has a new weapon to use against its enemies, just say “RG is here!” in map chat and you got the entire server there in seconds, foaming at the mouth with thoughts of killing them. Hahaha!

There are some amazing battles to be had though. We fought over the bridge south of hills in BB border last night for quite some time. AR attacked, Piken beat back, Piken attacked, AR beat back… But I am curious why RG didnt push for the win? Or did you choose not to? Felt like you could have just walked over us if you really wanted. Or where we really that hard to crack, lol?

GW2 does have both tanking and healing, its just that people ignore it because of ZOMGBERZERKRDERPER. I’ve seen bosses that go “oh hey I’ll just randomly attack everyone in si – SOMEONE HAS A SHEILD OUT KILL KILL KILL!” and proceed to focus on that. But does anyone carry a sheild in dungeons? No, they carry a greatsword, duh! Because greatsword is the only weapon in the game, double duh! Does any elementalist toss water fields and the other 3 guys do coordinated blasts to heal the “tank”? Never, ever seen it.

It isnt going to change and I doubt its going to improve.

Personally I would not carry a hammer on what is presumably a crit build (otherwise knights is pointless), I’d carry the greatsword – swoop in and spin around for devastating damage. For WvW, the staff unfortunetly take up the secondary slot (its just too usefull).

The “OP” thief builds rely on weak players to be op. Not really sure if thats the thieves fault… That said, they are pretty strong in small skirmishes.

Determining which is the most powerfull class is tricky. Personally I call it a draw between Mesmer and Guardian. A Mesmer can outbunker a Guardian and the Guardian can halt an entire zerg.

Its a strong PvE class, yes.

But why shouldnt it be OP? Its a WARRIOR. An archetype class. I personally prefer to see 5 Warriors fighting with conventional weapons in a dungeon, steel clash and bullets fly than seeing the hideous ZOMGBURNING style of 5 Guardians unleashing an epileptic siezure on the screen. Theres not enough Warriors

Getting dced 5 in 30 minutes and cant even walk normal because of it? Sounds painfull.

Anyway, disconnection is not lag. Lag is when you actually lag. Checked with people on the server if they have the same issues? Servers probably having the hiccups as usual.

The last few nights though, the queues have returned (up to an hour or so) and that’s probably the source of the vitriol towards the newly transferred guilds.

I’d say definetly. Its no fun for guilds that’s been on Piken since day 1 to be pushed out by new arrivals. The game is half the blame, kittenty queue system. But Piken has always had a very strong WvW population that hasnt been reflected by its medium pop status… Thus we where turned over a bench and buttsmacked by Anet by a free transfer week to those “poor” medium pop servers desperatly needing more people.

I fear we end up in a situation where alot of new guilds go “ZOMG OFF TO TIER 2!!!” while older guilds has been there, done that and dont want to do it again…

Cant be helped (players are free to choose servers as they please), but doesnt have to like it either.

The elite banner is seriously bad (way too long CD to be usefull), the regular banners are only decent in PvE. In WvW, they just dont have the range required. At triple range, perhaps they can be usefull in skirmishes and warrant being used as a “drop and forget” skill. Right now you need to carry them with you, which simply isnt going to happen because people either steal them from you or you need to use your attacks.

Being able to “attach” a flag to your back would be great, in an instant they would be useable in WvW and turn the Warrior into a true AoE presence rivaling the Guardian.

5: More leaders. Either make it possible for commanders to deputize people so they get an icon as well (maybe a slightly bigger dot in the same colors as the commander), or make it possible to buy lower level of commander for cheaper sums. If there is only one or two icons on a map, of course everybody is going to get drawn to them. But if there were lieutenants as well, there are more spots to focus on for people who are not organized, thus they will get spread out more evenly.

An excellent idea.

Right now, I am forced to buy a 100g “zerg mark” even if I just want to gather a smaller force. Groups only work with 5 people. What if you want 10? Zerg mark is your only option. Which probably mean that within minutes you’re surrounded by another 30 unwanted people.

At least lieutentants would state intent, a smaller group following the larger group.

2.) I agree, we need to get away from the zerg mentality. However, more commanders are -not- the solution. I don’t know about your server, but we have our fair share of stupid senseless kitten illogical commanders. And, aside from the rare dumb luck, many of them fail, miserably. I’ve watched 25 golems and another thirty persons get into the inner of SM and fail because of a commander on our server because of horrible calls on his part (25 golems and thirty persons was considered a lot when it came to NSP-GoM-HoD).

If 25 golems and 30 people to follow an illogical kitten commander to their doom that sort of says more of the group than the commander…

Personally I have no intention of leading zergs, my point with encouraging more commanders was simply splitting up into more groups. Commanders arent limited to gathering 50+ brainless zerglings that win or die on their decisions, are they? It can be 10. Why shouldnt a borderland have 10+ commanders? Why would that be so taboo? People should know if there is a good commander on the field by name and follow him if they want to, that’s how you get to know people. But if he is the only commander on the field… Well you know. Zerg.

Random sPvP is pretty irrelevant. And a tPvP match was probably already lost if they left so shortening the time to win isnt something I would argue against on the winning team…

I havent found Necro to be that low on the scale… Some I’ve meet have been close to Guardians in terms being unkillable bunkers.

No it’s not going to be account bound unless ArenaNet plans on issuing gold refunds to multiple players that bought multiple commander books for multiple characters.

Which would be a simple matter for them, just send a mail with a 100g refund for each additional commander tag people bought…

When your Guardian can outtank your Warrior, your Engineer can outtank the Guardian, the Mesmer can outtank all of them at once, the Elementalist is uncatchable/unkillable and your Theif doesnt even need to tank because he is nowhere to be seen, there is a problem

Zerg/zergball Commanders often pick a Guardian or Warrior as they smash into enemy lines and hope that the rest follow the icon, I know that. Its the obvious choice.
But I dont always like the obvious choice, otherwise my Warrior would be the only class I play.

After all, dont we all want to avoid the zerg mentality? Account bound Commander wont exactly hurt. More people willing to spend 100g on Commander due to it being available on any character, more options to follow smaller groups.

Seriously, you dont need to do them. A character in level 80 yellow gear (which cost a few gold or dungeon runs) is already an “endgame” capable character. Getting a few exotics after that is easy.

Before they introduced laurels the reward was more kittenty XP and everybody alkready did dailys then. Its really only improved.

Almost scraped together the 100g required , only problem is I play 8 different characters, because Anet made 8 classes. I enjoy them all because that’s what make the game fun to play, a little variation. I dont really have a main – I dont think I am capable of having a main.

I like my mighty Charr shout healing Warrior, I like my Norn million-clones-with-big-boobs Mesmer, I like my Asuran Gaurdian with Marvin-The-Martian lookalike Vigil armour, I like my lightning slinging flame throwing Engineer, etc etc.

Why would you torment me with choosing between them, Anet? Why?

How could I possibly look at those big watery eyes of my sad Asuran ever again if I made my proud Charr a Commander? I wont take up the opposite situation since I’d be ripped apart instead. And what about my Engineer sulking in the corner because her poor class is always deemed below everyone else?

Forget about PvE builds. Its impossible to mix WvW and PvE for the Engineer, it wont happen. Believe me, I have tried. What’s good in PvE is sub-optimal in WvW and vice versa. How good they are depends on skills and such, but as a comparison I can beat a bunker Guardian with my Engineer 1v1 in tPvP, considering bunker Guardians are basicly unkillable… Only problem is my fingers always get tired 5 minutes into the battle
Engineers can be very tough on their own, very usefull to the group and put down some heavy AoE damage. There’s really nothing they “lack” in terms of flexibility, except possibly kittenty downed skills.

My suggestion is a condition based WvW engineer with fairly balanced stats. Pick the kit swiftness and vigor traits, spend the rest of the points in whatever you want to focus about. For pistols you definetly want coated bullets. Now, why would you go a “balanced” approach instead of full berserker or rampager or whatever? Well because then you can just swap some skills and be decent at PvE as well.

Either way, when someone whisper “PvE?” to your Engineer, answer them “I’ll be right there with my Guardian!”.

I completed the new monthly achievement on April 2nd at 10:44 pm MST. Here’s a screenshot. I think the Monthlies should take longer to get. I wasn’t even tring to complete it, I was just playing.

You completed it with 3 out of 150 audio recordings collected? Amazing! How did you complete it without completing it???

Why fix it? Great to lure enemy zergs there only to see them destroyed from the walls by gazillion AoE circles and players able to cover the entire area, while the ones outside are compacted into a small narrow space with no where to run.

So many good memories of running out in the middle of the group and knocking people down the sides, lol.

And in addition to this add a mechanic that gives VPs on player deaths.
IE, when a player kills another player 1 VP is given to the killers server.

Kills should never ever matter in non-competetive open world combat. Why? Because its so kitten easy to abuse, not to mention its completely unfair. Oh look the entire enemy server is outside our spawn location because our server dont have manpower for WvW. Lets give them some extra points for their effort!

Such a change would probably make me stop playing GW2 WvW. It would stop being fun.

Not only do you have balls, but your math is wrong.

All 50 can hit your 5 at once as there is no limit to how many can hit you and 5 is within each of theirs AoE limit.

So the AoE limitation is irrelevant in this case, its the unlimited hitters that unbalance the encounter. Hitting 25 or 50 of them, you still die.

Non fractals way to get quiver skin?

Just bring a new character into Fractals if you already have a 10+ main character, the drop chance seem to be insanely high for them. I got 3 vials on my first run once (Dredge) :S

Other than that bit of randomness, making a quiver in the mystic toilet is fairly cheap (think I spent like 15g on mine, I also had some materials laying around).

Theres been such an influx of free transfer guilds this week so that Piken is just as packed as it was just before the free transfers ended (then the sfr incident happened and queues mysteriously went away, heh). either that or the queue system has gone belly up again. Its been quite disheartening not being able to get a decent raid anymore without queing 2 hours in advance

The problem is the Zerg mentality. All of you who oppose removing AoE limit are all for Zerg.

If you just remove it, it’ll just shift the zerg problem. Instead of seeing hybrid melee/AoE zergballs, we’ll see AoE zergs that insta-kill the opposition. Is that supposed to be better? Its already horrible enough today with massive necro bombing groups.

So I’m against it as a single solution and I am against zergs. Your argument is invalid.

In the example of a 50 man zerg vs a 10 man zerg, the 50 man already has clear advantage, why give them even more advantage just by having more players?

Exactly. Which is why introducing a limit to the amount of people that can hit you at once is the real solution. 50 vs 5 will still have an advantage in terms of manpower but they wouldnt be able to use their numbers as an insta-kill advantage. In fact, the 5 people will have the exact same damage possiblity against 50 as 50 has against 5. Thus, the zergball breaks… Because there is no longer any massive advantage to engage lower numbers with higher numbers.

If you can do 500 damage to 30 targets at once with one skill a single target skill needs to do 500×30 to one target. but since you wont always have 30 targets to hit with an aoe skill the damage could be between 500 and 15000

That… make absolutely no sense at all. The math around it can be anything to prevent your imaginary issue. Such as a simple upper limit to damage.

Anyway I still think everyone is looking in the wrong direction. We need to impose a limit to the currently unlimited AoE/direct damage you can get hit by. That will significantly weaken zergballing, because that’s what make it so powerfull and what everyone seems to completely ignore, because all they focus is on what damage they can do (ZOMG DPS WINS!!!). To make it simple:

Group (6 players) is target of Zergball (50 players).
- An individual in Zergball can only hit 5 of 6 players, just like an individual in Group can only hit 5 of 50 players (the horror!!!).
- An individual in Group can get hit by 50 players.
- An individual in Zergball can get hit by 6 players.

Guess which individual dies instantly?

My suggestion would be to introduce glancing blows with significantly reduced damage when more than 5 different people hit you in a very short time. Call it… Stacking too many weapons on one target, so they block each other from hitting. And do remove the AoE limitation, by all means. It’ll help too.

True. You get so many choices!

Scenario: As a Guardian you have engaged NPCs for quite some time and when you look back, you realize you accidentally downed a glass cannon Thief that tried to 2 2 2 2 2 2 his way through your retaliation. There is a ranged scout that keep you blinded 80% of the time and 3 guards that only have 10-15% HP each due to your constant AoE.

Do you:

A) Try to spike the thief? In the time you reach him, he have stealthed somewhere else and killed off a guard (or all three due to jumping attacking) to rally himself.

B) Try to melee the theif? That also kills all three guards, rallying the thief.

B) Try to range the thief? He does enough damage to kill a guard before your first scepter orb reach him. Using the staff kill everybody and rally the thief.

C) Methodically kill the scout and guards, which allow you to spike the thief without intervention? Duh, that will rally the thief instantly.

D) Give up, walk away and let the poor thief live? The guards just killed themself on your retaliation and rallied the thief.

*In the case the thief rally, he will be 100m away with 20s stealth in 3s, so we assume you cant accidentally kill him again.

Oh the choices!

The problem with the idea in the OP is that it only encourage the side that actually want to hold these objectives to split up. How much chance is it that this side happen to be the 100+ zerg rabble?

All it would accomplish is probably 30 people defending against a 100+ zerg that is it in purely to disrupt one of the three points.

Nah, IMO it should be more focused around commanders. It should be tiered and offer buffs to a certain amount of players. Encourage even larger guilds with 40+ players to split up to two 20+ groups instead, based on commander limitations. A commander should be unable to support 50+ players and they should be debuffed. There should also be MUCH cheaper commander tags to buy that can only “support” smaller groups, to encourage them grouping rather than joining a mindless zerg.

I dont know how much HP downed state has, but I am fairly sure its either identical or higher than when you’re up. Especially if you take the food which give you double downed HP. My Warrior has 30K HP when alive and when downed I’ve seen 5 people bash on me for what seems like forever, lol. Estimating 40K doesnt seem so strange. If its the same HP as when you’re alive, I could get 60K downed HP with food. Being a tank on your back would be… weird :p

Yeah I really wish they’d add more strict afk rules to WvW to avoid people clogging the battlefield. Queues have increased 10 fold on my server over the last couple of days due to free transfer. Sure its nice to see new guilds, but its not so nice to see old guilds be pushed out. Waited an hour for pop in a borderland today and failed to enter any zone after 3 hours yesterday. Last week it was 0-10m queues even prime time on some days

WTF was happened yesterday at the RS border? There was freakin incredible LAAAAAAGS! 1-2 sec lag before skill use. Dolyak’s physical model was in front of graphical model at the 300 distance. In the same time there was NO queues at this border.

Maybe WvW just went belly up as usual, because there sure was hours of queues yesterday… I think I spent 3 hours trying to get into any borderland and EB O.o

I think there need to be tiers, but I dont see why the scoring system has to be so… complicated. Its a wide range with no lower or upper limit with completely nonsensical scoring system that doesnt reflect the “winner” in many cases.

Seems to me it would be easier to just just have a fixed point system and tier ranges – looser get -1, winner get +1, runner up gets 0. At least then you’d know things like if you loose this week, you’re gonna go up or down a tier, etc.

The very idea that ALL THREE servers can be loosers (like the EU T9 black hole situation) is absolutely ridiculus!

Reroll engineer for 100% swiftness…

An Engineer can match a Mesmer in just about everything but teleport and warp (same in sPvP, heh).

Anyway, I agree that it is annoying to see theives, elementalists, and necros have perma speed (ie not swiftness), while warrior and engineer can easily achieve perma-swiftness. Guardian is the only one being almost as slow as a mesmer but even they got some extra skills for it. Ranger I am actually unsure of skillwise but they could always ride their pet or something.

Why has the mesmer been singled out to not have that much swiftness or a signet? I have no idea. You could argue the “strength” of the class but that’d probably be insulting theives that can 2-hit kill stuff or elementalists that are unkillable, necros that can AoE bomb, etc…

I’d rather have no class with such unfair speed traits personally.

Lets not forget that the focus curtain also doesnt stack with existing swiftness (or it breaks and reset it). This apply to the Guardian as well so they are both double kittened when it comes to swiftness.

That said, I dont really find it that much of an issue when playing. Yes you are slower, but not that much. In a group its completely irrelevant. Using a focus is as required in wvw as using a warhorn is on a warrior (traiting for focus skill reflection is awesome, haha) so you do get your own bit of speed.

Leveling another Engineer ... bah!

I deleted my 80 engineer a while ago and leveled a new (now 80 too) because of it having the wrong name. Then the next month Anet added name change >.<

Anyway, if you want to keep to WvW, you first want to be 30+. Dont go into WvW before that with an Engineer, because its kitten Complete kitten There’s no other class as weak as a lowbie Engineer and its mindnumbingly dull to play. Just PvE until then, its going to be easier for your sanity. You COULD zerg as well in WvW, but prepare to be utterly useless for anything other than XP leeching.

When you got the trait points, spec for kit swiftness and vigor on swiftness. That right there increase you survivability and WvW viability by at least a million percent. After that its just to kite, kite, kite and kite some more. Rifle is going to be considerably better in solo play before you can spec for penetrating bullets and condition damage, after that pistol/pistol become a potent combo, especially against groups.

Yeah you should probably contact Anet… They must see if something has happened on the server end. What does it say in the login window (server list). Is SoS or JQ your home server? If JQ is still your home server then that wierd. And awesome at the same time, playing for another worlds WvW group, lol. Hidden feature

IMO the downed state can stay, but it should be toned down considerably. Off the top of my head:

- Reduce damage to half or something. With trait you do WAY too much damage, hell sometimes more than when you where alive!
- Fix the cooldowns on some skills, Thief stealth most notably. You should get more than 2 seconds of visibility before they teleport again. Some weak skills should be buffed as well, such as the Engineer blast. Why is it on so long cooldown when the Guardian can use its identical skill instantly? It make no sense. Especially since the Guardians other skill is much more powerfull than the single target knockdown the Engineer can use instantly.
- Fix the EXPLOITS that exist with the downed skills. Elementalist mist form should not go through doors.
