Nerf bunkers and add team death match (3 v 3, 5 v 5)

If they added death matches every game would be 20 seconds long with almost no depth to it. There are no healers so you don’t do things like swapping and CCing to setup kills. It’s just spam damage into someone and kill them.

Imo reverse CTF would fix this whole game.

To pick up the flag you have to channel for 3 seconds.

Person with the flag has no attacks besides flag ones which may just be like, aoe cripples etc. Can’t use portal or swiftness etc.

Bunkers protect flag.

Roamers escort flag / carry flag.

I appreciate everyone coming in here and being civil regarding the topic. I know that around these parts things can easily get derailed and lose sight of the original discussion.

I have played every class, but the only one that is enjoyable to me is the Warrior.
I have put considerable time into the class, when I quit 2 1/2 months ago I was r42.
Essentially, it’s my baby. Just because my baby can’t swim right now doesn’t mean I won’t stop trying to teach it.


Barrier of entry in this game is extremely high. Not in a skill way or even learning your class, but in the ability to break into the PvP community. It drives hoards of new players to WvW and leaves us wanting.

Due to this oversight the sPvP community has an high turnover rate – resulting in little community growth and the oversight from other business’s / communities to take us seriously.

Hi, my name is Defektivex.

I primarily play a Warrior.

For a few months I made builds, streamed alot, made a pvp video. Did tPvP, paids etc. etc. etc. since then I ‘quit’ (tentatively) playing GW2

I didn’t quit because of the lack of gametypes, or the community getting smaller and more focused on a few set players.

I didn’t quit because the responses (in my opinion) from ANet didn’t meet the expectations that I desired.

I quit simply because if I wanted to compete on a ‘pro’, or ‘hardcore’ or ‘competitive’ way then I was fixated into a very set number of builds that optimized my class for the role it was pigeonholed into.

I loved Guild Wars 2. It was a lot of fun getting to know my class, getting to know each skill and how it slightly altered my gameplay. But when it came time to put my big boy pants on, I suddenly lost all the flexibility the game provided.

Because of this, I felt pent up. Caged even. Like a kid in a candy shop, but all I’m allowed to eat are week old stale cookies.

For a while I said to myself “it’s ok! things will get fixed, in time things will get better.”
But as the days went on I became more irate, negativity sank in and frustration got the best of me. I quit.

Since then I’ve played a number of games – Planetside 2, Forge, Dishonored (not multiplayer, but still good!). Yet I keep looking back to GW2 for that one tweak which would completely change everything.

What I hoped for, no – dreamed for, was not variety through carefully chosen and balanced mechanics. But balanced variety through chaos.

If everyone had (pardon my french) batkitten crazy abilities. The game would be focused around the ever changing variety of builds to counter Class A’s ‘batkitten crazy’ build.

At this stage in the game I feel weathered. There is little left in me that will compel writing up arguments or asking questions to the devs or sitting on my traits page concocting builds. It all seems futile. When I play my Warrior in tPvP, I feel trapped in a box. When all I would love to do is let my imagination run free and provide innovative and new methods of domination to my opponents.

Now this guide is good and all. I’m even willing to give it a 10/10 in terms of being a guide.

But as a build, see-ing as shouts are underpowered, its efficiency in a real game would be a 6/10 at best.

The moment you burn “Fear Me” and “Shake It Off” you’re done for against a good chain stunner. Believe me, Hammer Warriors are easily chain stunned back.

No Warhorn mastery or Warhorn somewhat cripples your team if you don’t have it with 30 points spec’d into tactics.

DPS Variant switches up your utilities and provides higher damage.
It was my preferred type of Avalanche build.

That being said I haven’t played this game in almost 2 months and I don’t intend to come back any time soon so, to each their own!

Until then I’m playing Forge, since its the PvP game I always wanted GW2 to be.

Ohhh, you have me interested… does it actually have decent melee/warrior style mechanics?

Oh hell, gonna go check it out anyways.

WHY, WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND A GAME WHERE YOU CAN BE A FRIGGIN’ WARRIOR THAT ISN’T LAME? (Other than M&B Warband, but the community is so small there and it definately needs modernization… and a persistant world. But the melee combat is the friggin’ best)

There’s 2 melee classes, Warden (Hybrid Warrior / Guardian, can’t heal itself).
And assassin (Less OP Thief, can lock a player down, slow them, but dmg is on par w/ other classes).

Targeting is done like in an FPS via aiming, there’s blocking in the game so potentially you could seperate the healer from the enemy and block his LOS with your bodies.

Right clicking ‘blocks’ Holding down block drains your resources, and the longer you have it held down the more damage you take. However, if you block a caster spell or attack, you put it on cooldown for 5 seconds.

The game has a high skill cap and all the classes seem rather balanced.

But.

Any competent tPvP team would steam roll a Warrior bunker

Sure you’d last a decent amount of time, but I’d estimate about 30% less time than a Bunker guardian.

I only play a Warrior, period. Lvl 80, rank 42 before I quit playing almost a month ago.

The problem is exactly as you describe, but it comes down to the issue of mobility vs. being a tank.

To pick up the more team-oriented skills you have to either:
A) Sacrifice mobility or potential damage output.
B) Become very tanky

Unfortunately, the most effective way to sPvP atm is to remain mobile, consistently. It’s about what 1-2 people can do in 4 seconds and less what 1-2 people can do for the rest of the team over a 3 minute engagement.

Because of this Warriors are pigeonholed into either being Tanky, or Mobile / Bursty.
Considering many other classes can be better tanks we’re forced into the Mobile/Bursty role which has very little in the ways of team abilities.

The class is just up against a wall, its why I’ve quit playing until major changes happen or a huge meta shift. Until then I’m playing Forge, since its the PvP game I always wanted GW2 to be.

WvW Rifle builds will do better since they don’t have to get in the fray.

This type of build won’t work what soever in the more competitive tPvP setting.

Lack of mobility, easily focused, no escape mechanisms, squishy.

If you want Axe/Mace to work then you have to pair it with Sword/Shield.

Otherwise this is just a ‘ima dick around a bit in spvp and kill lemmings’ build.

I’m not one to complain, but this is actually starting to be somewhat annoying.

No fast-hands fix.

How hard is that to fix?

Seriously. If it is any more complex then that, then you’re doing it wrong.

For the Revenge bug, it would be even easier — when the player respawns, remove the buff instead of letting it stay there to kill the player when it removes itself.

Moving on, though — no fix for ANY warrior bugs.

I’m very disappointed.

At this point, I’d actually support scrapping the December event entirely and just receiving a bug-fixes release. Not buffs, not new features, just bug fixes.

Why aren’t bug fixes happening? There seems to be a pretty big disconnect between what players want and want the developers/producers think we want.

I also don’t know why it’s that hard to even convert that to a function and call it whenever they hit the swap button. I don’t see how difficult this could be.

Lol… an sPvP all-star thinking he is better than guilded “pro” tPvPers. Clearly you have never played tPvP at any high level. These “pro” players you speak of, would no doubt beat you 1v1, in fact, you could clone yourself, play two characters at the same time, and they would win 1v2.

Being a good team player does not translate to being a good soloist. True tPvP is competitive, but playing there does not reflect on one’s skill as a duelist, as a player who always plays teams, puts less time into perfecting his/her personal skills. It is entirely possible that a tPvP can crumble without the support of his/her team.

This is pretty wrong on a number of levels.

A lot of tPvP is about roaming / holding your own until backup arrives or beating someone out 1v1 to quickly neutralize a point.

tPvPers need to excel at soloing as well as pointing out team battle abilities.

There really isn’t a comparison here, tPvP does take more knowledge, twitch and understanding than a standard sPvP player.

Hi.

Many areas of the game are struggling. WvW, sPvP etc. aren’t doing to well.

I understand the need to be festive and entertaining to people - this comes in the form of new and interesting events like the Mad King / Lost Shores / Wintersday.

But in 2 months we’re going to have 3 large events, each event has new mechanics, an interesting story and gameplay.

However, in those 2 months – from an sPvP’s perspective: very little changes have occured.
-Balance changes
sure… i guess.
-Paid tournies
ok.
-New PvP map
can’t be used in tournies – fine.

May I sincerely recommend something?
Please re-allocate staff assigned to the creation of these new events and place them on the PvP teams.
As a community I don’t think having 1.5 events per month is going to make this game stronger.
Core gameplay that’s diverse but robust will.

There’s obviously a staffing difference depending on the team, but I don’t see the core gameplay improving without a properly staffed team.

I’ve taken a semi-hiatus from the game and will be focusing my gaming addiction on other products. But GW2 is still in the back of my mind and I look forward to a time where the game is fun to play (for me).

That being said.

Hows tPvP? The que times been good? More teams playing?

Have they added anything new besides the 15th balance changes and such?

Has the sPvP population gone up? Down?

Just looking for a litmus test.

That’s the only one still remaining afaik. The rest of them/us became depressed and stopped bothering. We meet once a week in a warrior support group. I’d tell you about it but the first rule is…

I stream from time to time, but lately I haven’t been as much. Most of my friends/team have stopped playing and a lot are on Planetside 2 since we played the first game for a few years.

60 toughness doesn’t mean you take 60 less damage per swing. At low toughness any additional gains are amazing.

Plus as glass, you’re stacking so much power that you’re hitting a DR. Stacking anymore is over reaching. I’ll take the toughness and more hp over something like 10-15 more dmg per swing any time.

Basically 50% crit chance.

Divinity blows balls though...

12% +Crit dmg
60 Pwr
60 Toughness <- Puts you over the toughness quota needed to stay alive in tPvP as a glass cannon.

Divinity is great. It’s not the most optimal damage rune, or defensive rune. But it does a great job of hitting the center.

Launcher wont start - installed Windows 8 Pro

Installed Windows 8 last night, now the launcher crashes before it begins to even load.

Tried it in compatibility mode, as administrator, checked my firewall to see if it was blocking updates (eventually just turned off the firewall).

Nothing is working, any ideas?

I feel like people aren’t understanding the point of the thread and we’re getting derailed with this or that.

So I’ll try my best to restructure my original stance:

Simply stated –
Warrior mechanics while strong in terms of raw damage, are weak in terms of overall complexity, uniqueness and use.

Many attacks in this game deal LESS damage than a Warriors, however they provide interesting mechanics to compensate for this.

An example is the Elementist Hammer. While many attacks are somewhat similar to the Warriors in both animation, and attack sequences and damage. The overall complexity is in favor of the Elementalist Hammer due to the interesting mechanics it provides.

When it comes down to it, I would gladly take a damage nerf in return for more interesting and complex weapon mechanics such as that the Elementalist Hammer provides.


This thread is not about the dynamics of an Elementalist not being able to swap attunements, or that they can only use a limited number of attacks. Please simply look at what each attack gives as an example of complexity and interesting mechanics.

IMO: tPVP Timers = Death of Burst setups.

This is in reference to individual timers in tPvP being fixed.

Reason 1)
Good teams will let you bleed out first before stomping. This adds a solid 10-15 seconds of ‘res’ time.

Reason 2)
20 second individual timer + 10-15 seconds of downtime is an eternity.

This is nothing new, atleast my team always makes sure to give long stomps when ever it is possible (exceptions being if they are on a neutral point, or getting ressed etc).
I’d say that the only real difference is that less skilled teams/players will give people the same ress timers as a skilled can now, without any kind of effort.

Bottom line, less ability to get an advantage out of attention, awareness and skill. Personally not the way I want to see it go

While yes this happens, lets put together a scenario real quick:

You’re fighting 4v4 on Keep.

1-2 of your teammates go down. The other team isn’t going to sit idly by and let them be ressed – but they won’t stomp them either.

Your only two (consistent) choices are to
1) Get AOE spammed while trying to res
or
2) Try to down / stomp one of theirs.

Due to the downed state HP change, and the timer. In groups battles teams will just keep doing damage to stomp an enemy. They don’t need to wait for timers in this pitched battles in order to get the full effect. Simply keep dpsing and you’ll force the enemy to wait 30-40 seconds for a teammate to come back to the battle.

However, if its a 1v1 situation or even a 2v2. Bleeding out + Timer is applicable in both scenarios.

Another reason as to why Anet is not listening. The 2 DEVS working on PVP should be fired.. they totally killed pvp.. this adds injury to insult… seriously, 20 sec re spawn timers.. wtf devs.

As a Warrior play from day 1 I can tell you, the fact that we really don’t have any other build available to us to compete with at the same level as the standard GC is extremely disheartening.

as a warrior who has played since day one, you haven’t put much effort into trying out many builds, have you?

You have 70 trait points, 5 trait lines, 50 trait skills to choose from, 3 main hand weapons, 2 off hand weapons, 2 two hand weapons, and 2 ranged weapons to experiment with, a schwack load of skills to fine tune, 2 asuran fur coats, and a partridge in a pear tree to work with.

GS is not the only available/viable spec at any level.

Thematically. Functionally I love the ele mechanics as it reminds me of how warriors have and should be with stance dancing (my prot warrior), aura twisting (chosen: WAR) and manifest molding (bear shaman: AoC… basically what our hammer/shout healer build SHOULD be like)*

i would give my kitten’s left hairball to have stance dancing again.

Actually, if you looked around the forum a bit you’d see that I actually put up many non-GS builds.

From a tPvP perspective however, you’re only crippling yourself if you’re not GS.

Simply, that’s what I was saying.

IMO: tPVP Timers = Death of Burst setups.

This is in reference to individual timers in tPvP being fixed.

Reason 1)
Good teams will let you bleed out first before stomping. This adds a solid 10-15 seconds of ‘res’ time.

Reason 2)
20 second individual timer + 10-15 seconds of downtime is an eternity.


This will force players to be extremely defensive in order to mitigate death. Burst builds with little survivability will slowly diminish because of their potential downtime from a team.

That’s my prediction at least.

Make PvP FTP. Allow only 30 Traits to be allowed for the FTP Players.

If they want to buy traits then they have to pay.

gs versus a/a warriors

Many builds are viable 8v8 sPvP and even some Free teams. But in paids where its not about being competitive vs. other teams as much as it is a competition for a spot on a team to begin with - no other build really shines as well as gs/axe-shield.

Because of that, most Warriors are forced into that style of play.

I’ll break it down a little further, by weapon.
Remember, this is from a tPvP perspective

Greatsword:
Pros: High mobility, high damage, high burst.
Cons: Little direct survivability, needs to be paired with a second weapon set thats defensive.

Axe:
Pros: High damage, high burst, good pairing with offhands (shield or mace).
Cons: Low mobility.

Hammer:
Pros: Medium+ Damage, high control.
Cons: Slow. Easily countered via Stability and Blinds.

Mace:
Pros: Good for tanky builds. Decent damage.
Cons: Final primary attack takes to long to cast (1second). No burst, no mobility.

Longbow: No comment – damage increase was nice but its more of a problem with projectile tracking.

Rifle:
Pros: Great damage, utility.
Cons: Low mobility, easily countered if focused.

Sword:
Pros: High mobility.
Cons: Low damage, Doesn’t stack enough bleeds unless you’re very squishy, at which point you won’t live long enough.

Shield:
Pros: Easily paired with many weapons. Blocking, Stun.
Cons: Long cooldowns.


Essentially, GS/Axe-Shield wins out because it offers high damage, high mobility, high burst, high survivability.

Well I think the biggest point of contention here is that the conjure is a not-weapon.

This.

Most people will agree Hammer could use a little love. You just went preaching it the wrong way.

I’d like to add, I’m also a proponent of giving banners a 5ish second combo field so that attacks can be used in conjunction with it. Then you can pick up the banner and ‘banner #5’ it to slam it back down for the combo field again.

Complexity like this is the primary point of the thread and how comparable weapons simply do more.
