Think of it as this.
Out of 100%
Guardian dmg – 40%. Support – 60%
Warrior dmg – 60%. Support – 40%
Defektive runs the wombo combo build. It’s pretty much the only viable Warrior build and it’s luck based, miss the combo and you’re dead. Not fun and gimmicky, but to each their own.
Thats not true at all. Bad warriors blow their loads way to early. I win many fights with little luck involved and i try to only save quickness 100b against ressing enemies.
Good warriors dont need luck to compete, just a strong understanding of game mechanics and timing.
Example:
http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1717839
^tPvP – vs rank40+ bunker guard
I think its fine. I wouldnt trait so hard into blocking mechanics if you’re not taking the Shield trait in defense to reduce skill CD’s by 20%
I’d grab the 9% crit chance in tactics, and then embrace the pain instead of reflect missiles.
Send one mid to cut off steal attempts.
Problem solved.

^Shout Hammer Build (‘Avalanche Build’).
Also contains my DPS Variant.
<- grew up on UT, RTCW
So I understand the lust of having equality across the board.
But over the years I’ve just come to accept that with different class mechanics comes R/P/C.
Had to move to the dark side to stay competitive
This has been, and still remains why I gripe about warrior design.
HOWEVER I have found the secret to actually having fun on my warrior:
I’ve stopped playing him in TPvP altogether. I have my 7 other alts for that, mainly fielding the ele or mesmer lately. Finally got my warrior to 80, got his exotics (except for accessories which are rare, working on that) and doing smaller scale and solo WvWvW with him….
As sword/shield + longbow.
And my warrior is actually fun again. Still have some issues with a few things about the class but at least I can play him with the weapon setup that I actually want to use and enjoy him for a change. The higher point spread customization outside the mists helps a lot with this actually as I can stack power and then minor in prec/tough/vitality/condi damage in order to keep him somewhat balanced (since warriors condition damage isn’t that reliable at all with how easily removed it is) in stats.
I’m not forced into some shouting stunlocker or GS herpaderper in order to feel competitive and viable and it makes a huge difference in actually enjoying the game instead of having every glaring issue and drawback of the class stare at you with piercing clarity like in TPvP.
On the other hand my ele and mesmer both tear kitten up in TPvP the more I’ve been running tourneys with them, the ele obviously having a much higher skillcap but also being far more engaging and fun imo. I am firmly convinced that the ele/engi design should have been the baseline for class mechanic design in GW2 with the attunement/kit swaps and whatnot.
Still promoting the idea of warriors having stance dancing as well.
I agree that we are sort of one dimensional. I’ve tried all the other classes and frankly I didn’t find them fun or interesting.
Since I hate WvW, and as a person I’m extremely competitive. I’m forced to play builds that function most optimally in a tPvP Scenerio.
I’ve been tinkering with combining the best of both worlds – GS/Hammer. We’ll see how it goes.
There’s nothing wrong w/ Rock Paper Scissors if each class has a chance, all be it lower, to say Paper kill Scissors.
I constantly kill bunkers, despite bunkers usually counter me pretty hard.
But GW2 is a team game, focus on your classes strengths instead of banging your head against a wall.
Had to move to the dark side to stay competitive
Quick note on that though: our team may start running me as my hammer axe/mace build again – we’re testing the waters.
I just wanted to make this topic for new players to learn about warrior purpose (in my opinion, which is not an absolute truth), before they spend all their time leveling their warrior and then figuring out they can’t do what they planned on doing.
- Warrior profession is NOT viable at:
#1 Structured pvp play.
#2 Tournament pvp play.
#3 Dueling other players.
- WvWvW pvp roaming.
This information is so far from wrong. Everyone’s just pessimistic about the profession. I and others are having a lot of success in s/tPvP.
The game is about coordination and communication. As a Warrior, if you’re not effective against Class A. Then inform your team so they can deal with Class A so you can stomp Class B for them.
Example:
tPvP Match:

(edited by Defektive.7283)
Worst.
Skill.
Ever.
Equip a shield, a stun break, when you get hit once swap and hit 5. You’ll take about half your HP in damage but you only need like 3 attacks to kill a thief.
I’m doing fine in tPvP as a warrior:
tPvP – vs. Mesmer
http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1717246
tPvP – vs. 100b Warrior
http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1715689
tPvP – vs Bunker Engi
http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1715674
tPvP – Saving the day
http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1717391
I think we’re doing ok as a class.
Edit: Or at least I’m having success.
Rifle only does good damage when everyone is twiddling their thumbs and don’t realize a Warrior is there.
There’s a reason its a terrible weapon for tPvP. Everyone focus’s the Warrior/Thief/Ranger. And if that’s happening, then a rifle warrior is poop.
The only real Burst weapons are axe mainhand, greatsword.
“I can guess your warrior build, glass cannon warrior, prob got axe axe or axe shield and a rifle. " – TGSlasher
Wait what. You just said glass cannon Warrior and Axe/Axe – Rifle in the same sentence.
What
GW2 is a team game. Time Warp is 10 seconds of Quickness for your whole team.
Consider that before you complain.
Mesmers: shatter burst + portal + time warp…….
I’ve seen some amazing ele’s tank 4 people at once in tournies.
No, it requires some thought and strategy. Alot of teams account for someone trying to steal so they send someone mid early game to slow them down or eliminate them from the equation.
It’s called using strategy, and the mechanic is fine.
Current method is perfect.
1v1 vs. Bunker engy in tournament. I believe the engy is running the exact setup you mentioned.
Video: http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/c/1715674
IMO its all about interpreting when his knockbacks and stuns are about to go off in order to keep the pressure on.
I think the barrier to entry hurts people from consecutively playing. Dropping the ticket requirement from 5 to 2 or 3 would go a long way to allow more interested parties to play more often.
Other things that concern me:
Guardian block bug – currently seeing a lot of teams run double guardian bunks mainly for this reason.
Teleporting through walls (especially on Khylo). Way to much buggy mobility, I feel like this is severely overlooked.
it should show up. technically not a boon, but you’ll see the icon

oh lol, ya I’ll stream in about an hr half. have a few errands to take care of.
Never wanted to
but I’m a sucker for winning.
@Deutero
I’ve been taking a break from streaming for this primary reason:
I hate playing GS, its tacky and tunnel vision minded.
Unfortunately for my paid tPvP team Hammer wasn’t enough in the current meta form of ‘Bunker or Burst’.
So I’ve been playing GS against my own will in order to be more competitive. And I assumed it was something my user base preferred to not see due to the proliferation of GS players on twitch.
I’ll throw up a stream or two today and see peoples reaction.
Ya I would think that’s pretty good stat balancing.
I would also just say be careful around to many mobs at once.
Reasoning for Free Tournies allowing team que:
Order of events -
1: sPvP – Find friends, get better at your prof. understand PvP
2: fPvP – Get friends together, try cohesiveness. Learn strategies and communication skills.
3: pPVP – Compete against other teams of friends that have strategies and communications skills in order to better yourself as a player.
I think it’s a pretty good layout. However I do think that tournies cost an awful lot, and that barrier of entry will eventually peter out, forcing a lot of people to rarely play.

My guild/outfit/team/squad – Coalition Gaming - is also looking for skilled sPvPers to fill our ranks for paid tPvP. Currently there about 4-5 of us (WvW division is larger), but I’m looking to grow our ranks so we can consistently field 1-2 teams at once.
If you’re interested, please give me a whisper in-game (Defektive.7283) and we’ll do some free tournies together to get a feel for teamwork and how we work together overall (communication, synergy etc.).

I’m able to get a paid tourny in about 10 minutes of waiting.
It’s not ideal but it’s not terrible.
Don’t think it updates it on the screen, but I do feel that it works.
^ The problem is this. If you’re going for tons and tons of stuns, then you may as well go super tanky since you won’t be able to put out enough damage to compliment it. So you may as well stay alive much longer in order to keep at it.
However, if you want stuns and damage, you most definitely do not want that elite skill mainly because you lose out on a ton of damage and you handicap your own ability choices until the skill has been completed. The attack speed of that elite skill is incredibly slow, coupled with many attacks have animations that are drawn out – any experienced player will easily counter it.
I myself play a Warrior, and when I see other Warriors using that skill I just stop targeting them and go about my merry way because suddenly they aren’t a threat.
The only time I can see that elite being taken seriously is if for some reason you have a Warrior point holding clock tower. And if that’s what your group has dwindled down to then there’s probably some issues with your overall team composition in general.
There’s good reason that you never see that elite skill used in sPvP.
Here’s just a couple.
-You do less damage than just using your weapons.
-While you have a couple knockbacks, standard weapons like a Hammer also have them but provide much higher dps.
The only real benefit of it is 30 seconds of stability. But I wouldn’t take 30 seconds of stability at a loss of damage especially when many of the attacks are easily dodge-able in that form.
So far I'm not satisfied with Warrior damage. Does anyone have any advice?

its just a very straight forward build, i think its 30/30/0/0/10 or something.
possible 20/30/0/0/20

tbh warrior burst isnt going to get a ton higher than that, i’ve seen a full 100blades do about 25k. but thats not consistent.
Thief’s C/D Backstab Combo vs Proper Warrior.
That thief was beyond terrible. Thus making it a bad example.
Reason: He opens, and then just stands there. Plus his opening was incorrect.
Secondly, we all know that you can counter a thief as a hammer warrior. Consider I primarily play as a Hammer, I know this all to well.
The original post is in regards to already being in a fight, and having a CORRECT backstab build thief intercept you mid fight.
I would round that out to 8% dmg. And on a standard 1k dmg attack thats only 80 dmg. It’s very negligible.
Personally, once you hit that 1800/1850 mark in toughness, you want to invest in more damage traits otherwise your basically a bunker.
First, thought you quit playing.
Second, your posts are typically well thought out. Don’t make a whine post.
The thief’s strongest opener is C&D, steal, backstab. Wasting that on a target and knocking them down to 60% of their health is a waste. If a team is doing that to you every game, you should win, because your glass cannon DPS aren’t instantly dying from that combo.
1) I stopped playing until they brought in Paid Tournaments. Seeing how the ‘meta’ develops until I throw in the towel until a later date. Been playing Planetside 2 in the mean time.
2) I know, sorry. It’s been a long day, coming home to this frustration didn’t make things any better.
I consider myself an experienced Warrior, at 1900 toughness, and 24k hp I still have some issues with taking 10-15k damage in 1 second from a thief.
It takes incredible foresight in a pitched 2v2, 2v3 to anticipate a stealthed thief to completely unload on you.
I understand there was a nerf to the assassins signet, but to be frank – it wasn’t enough.
Just cant shake that feeling of it being a tacky aspect of this game.
I have the day off so I’m looking to play some games.
Good players who have a great understanding / foundation of sPvP please.

2 weeks per bug is reasonable amount of time to track down a bug, implement a fix, test and deliver.
Anything less in my mind means they are under staffed or are taking their time with it. In which case they should notify the community.
Its an issue of Developer Transparency, which is something I find this game lacking.
@Colin
I feel like there was a communication mis-match with this latest patch.
Many of us were under the assumption that the patch guaranteed Paid tournaments as well as a host of other fixes.
I feel as if this act breaks previous trust based on comments you have made in regards patch announcements and fulfilling those promises (such as Portal not being able to carry bundles).
Sadly, I personally feel rather betrayed. This patch was going to make it or break it for me as a sign of things to come (in regards to sPvP). As of now, I will be going on hiatus from this game until I see some more concrete changes, or at least some real transparency on the issues.
I would like to thank you for your previous attempts at communicating with the community.
Sincerely,
-Defektive
I’d like 2 shields. So I can have my other weapon set be 2 shields. And then I’d have four shields.
