During EST primary hours (6pm+ ish) I see a lot of games in the browser and tPvP usually kicks off under 20 seconds of queing.

@Cygnus
I’m glad you like the build!
Don’t hesitate to experiment with new builds, many weapon sets can be successful but the kicker is to find something you enjoy the most.
+40% might duration
Or
You can just unequip them, test the length.
Equip them, test the length.
Ok I’m home now so I’ll answer some questions.

It’s done uploading but Vimeo takes a little bit to roll it out to the viewers. But that’s the link so check back at it from time to time.
@JoshuaRAWR
I’m glad you enjoy the build! It’s a fun one!
@fadeaway
-I actually use Soldiers Amulet / Berserkers Rune. Giving the maximum amount of +Power, as well as toughness / Vitality. But also some small +Crit dmg (28% crit with sig of rage up is still significant, you don’t need to run 80% crit because it doesn’t scale as well as Power).
-The loss of FGJ isn’t noticeable with this build mainly because your stacking so much power that Additional gains of Might start diminishing returns on the stat. So you want to expand into +Dmg modifiers to keep the damage ceiling high.
I hope that’s somewhat helpful as to my utility choices!
Regarding the build:
A lot of people ask “why did you get X trait over Y?”. All I can say without going on and on is that I spent a lot of time min/maxing as well as doing real world tests to pick each trait. Most notably is the combination ‘Embrace the Pain’ (Defense I) and how it effects endurance. The more attacks you soak up (hence the high Toughness), the more burst skills you get to use. On burst use → Gain Endurance.
Essentially it gives you the opportunity to maintain a very high endurance regen and thus, dodges.
Another big question is the reason to take Empowered (Tactics VI). Each boon you have is +2% damage. If you use you Signet of Rage at the beginning of a battle, that’s +6% damage on top of your other damage modifiers / Might gains. This is also affected if allies give you buffs. Essentially when you’re in Axe/Mace and you use your Sig of Rage, you now deal +16% damage (5% from weap, 5% from traits, 6% from Empowered).
In regards to weapon choices:
Hammer is your defensive weapon. You open with it, you gap close with it. Lastly, you put people into a vulnerable position with it that opens them up to taking a lot of damage.
Axe/Mace – This is your offensive weapon set.
You continue your CC chain with Mace #5 which allows you to get the maximum amount of damage from your Axe auto attacks.
I take criticism fine, and I’m perfectly happy to accept others opinions. This just means that my next video I’ll spend more time combing through content to find the best clips.
All cards on the table:
I made this video is 2.5 days with just a couple hours of footage. This is more of a litmus test to see if people would be interested in Warrior footage in a traditional PvP video.
However, I take pride in my work regardless of subject area. So if you feel that some of the footage wasn’t up to your standards then I apologize and will work harder next time.
Regardless, many people seem to be enjoying it and that was the goal of the film.
When I get home (at work) I’ll upload it to Vimeo. But fare warning Vimeo (after testing) has been downgrading the quality to about 480p.
I’ll update this thread when it’s done.
We hold up well in sPvP if played correctly.
Unfortunately a lot of warriors don’t play correctly.
Youtube auto converts, 1080p is very close to how it is shown on my computer.
I simply uploaded it at the resolution the recording was taken in.

Today I present to you:
Something I have been working on for a few days.
As a follow up to “Defektive’s – ‘Avalanche’ Build” comes Defektive [ONE], my first foray into GW2 PvP Video centered around the ‘Avalanche’ Build (DPS Variant).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELgi0uZYOI
(Best watched in 1080p)
Hmmm why should I watch?
-Because one of the points of the video was to show that Warriors can still go par to par with many other professions in s/tPvP. But you’re only able to achieve this with a weaponset you enjoy and are familiar with.
-Many people complain that Warriors are bad in sPvP but personally, I beg to differ. I’m constantly invited to tPvP teams because people rely on me to be a substantial team player as to get the job done.
What you should expect:
-1v1
-1v2
-tPvP
-sPvP
-Guest appearance by a fellow COAL sPvPer
Fights against a wide swath of professions. (Disclaimer: I specifically excluded content with heavy bunker builds in an attempt to not make a 30 minute movie showcasing 5 fights).
What NOT to expect:
-Greatsword (not used once, and for good measure)
-Rap Music
-Heavy metal / screamo / death metal / anything that screams what soever
-Trance music
-WvW of any means
Thank you and enjoy!

Well the video does have a number of PvP clips effectively ressing teammates / last minute saves in tPvP and effective enemy Treb control in tournament matches.
The video is NOT about insta gibs, nor is it about long drawn out fights.
The video IS about showing what the Warrior class can do in a pinch which can help make or break a fight for the enemy.
The video wasn’t thrown together to show the easiest of kills, there’s a healthy medium such as:
2v1 against average players
to
1v1 against a tournament Mesmer

The only class in a really bad place right now is the Ranger. They’re just pretty bad.
All the others are fine. Necros have too many bugs and could do with access to burning, but they’re definitely playable and competitive.
Also the idea that warrior is overpowered and mesmer isn’t is extremely lol. Your comments about elementalists are also totally wrong.
This.
He could easily decrease his damage slightly and in turn pick up more toughness traits.
Also, he should be positioning himself out of AoE and generally behind mobs in order to take less damage.
Also, dodge.
For me, Defense over Tactics almost 95% of the time.
@Grok:
6th heals for a peasly amount of HP. Since this build I’ve done much further tinkering with Warrior traits / builds and found the heal to not be worth the sacrifice of stats (it’s somewhere around 75 hp a second or so, at no +healing).
If you’re running high +healing / toughness / vitality though, it would work pretty well.
@Mouse:
The viability is good when you’re fighting teams that don’t have alot of condition removal, build also excels at killing bunkers. The build works very well with a Necro counterpart to help spread your bleeds around. If I was to review and edit this build. I would now swap out Dolyak Signet for Stamina Signet. Swap For Great Justice for Balanced Stance (need that stability / stun break). And go 5/6 Dolyak 1/6 Soldier.
Signet of Stamina + F1 skills give endurance = almost unlimited dodges.
^Can’t tell if troll…..
A lot of people have had success with this, I suggest you give it a try.
Signet of Stamina is one of our best utilities.
Perma vigor? All conditions gone in a click?
NERF THEM!!!
Because Warriors bring to much to the table!
Bunker / DPS / Roamer / HighHP & Survivability rolled into one package.
There’s a reason there are so many Warriors in tPvP! OP!
nerf our damage but give us interesting mechanics in return.
and you have a deal good sir
thats true on the glancing which can be useful, but im unsure if NPCs follow the same endurance rules as players
oh, then probably not. no
they regen at i believe 33% of their regular rate, its an amazing debuff especially against classes they rely on vigor to stay up
If you’d like specifics then I’d categorize Axe/Axe as PvE DPS considering the high number of enemies making #5 viable.
And Berserker should be Axe/Mace because of 8 stacks of vulnerability and stuns on your enemy keeping them in your damage chain.
I didn’t get to read much but the Axe/Axe portion (right at the begining) is incorrect.
Axe offhand does very little damage to the point where you do more damage just attacking with Axe mainhand #1.
There was a post here called Axe Offhand where I shared my findings with skeptics. Essentially for Axe #5 to do = damage to Axe #1 you need to hit greater then 4.12 enemies, sometimes greater than 6.
Hence I wouldn’t cater it to a ‘berserker’ playstyle.
(edited by Defektive.7283)
Explain to me how you got a chuckle out of your own comic. Because I don’t get it.
thank you my friend
Hey, I can’t find the PvP post from the devs that we’re all been discussion. Checked the news & announcements, not on the right hand on the forum, not on the central website.
Anyone know where it went?
axe off hand = suck
axe main hand = high DPSBut why do you think it sucks? From what I have seen it is a great weapon.
Axe #5 does less damage than Axe #1.
Axe #5 forces you to lose control of your character except to dodge.
Axe #4 does ok damage but most of the time Warriors are fury up from FGJ or Sig of Rage so having more fury won’t help (doesn’t stack).
Your better off with another weapon in almost every scenerio.
Sure the adren gain is good but I’m never adren starved since i take embrace the pain (defense I).
- you can still jump, move and dodge.. what control are you losing?
Control I’m referring to is being able to use attacks on demand, your stuck into a spinning death sentence against anyone intelligent.
The damage also doesn’t beat Axe #1 until I believe 3-4 people are in the picture. Essentially making it a waste of an ability in tPvP but spam happy in Hot Join.
Whenever I see an Axe offhand Warrior I get a little giddy and B line it to them for the free kill. And if they start spinning to win on me I just let them have it since it’s less damage overall than if they were just auto attacking.
It’s almost like they are intentionally trying to deal less damage to their foes.
Do you have parsed combat logs, a damage meter or the devs formula to show Axe #1 does more damage than Axe #5? If not then I can claim I do more damage using a dead fish in my main hand than a HB frenzy warrior by your standards.
Also, with an axe in your main hand you cripple your mobility.
Here I’ll make it easy on you.
Used Steady Axe – No buff difference, full adren.
Attack#5 (Whirling Axe’s) does 25 dmg per hit.
Attack#1 (Chop/Double Chop/Triple Chop) Does between 103-184 (depending on which attack its on).
For the sake of making a point I’ll only use the 103 number.
Lets do some rudimentary math:
106/25 = 4.12
You need to be hitting greater than 4.12 people with Whirling Axe’s in order to beat Axe #1 first attack (Chop).
Considering Axe #1 went up to 184 (Double Chop), well then you’re going to need to basically hit the whole other team.
Then lets compound the fact that Axe #1 can hit 3 enemies in a cone infront of you… And well….. lets just say:
Axe #5 is bad.

Advice: Don’t go to deep into condition damage seeing as how many ways there are to remove conditions in the game. Go a healthy balanced between Power/Condition Damage in order to maximize your DPS under a number of circumstances.

^ My thoughts behind this follow this principle:
Bring 1 weapon set for Defense
Bring a second weapon set for Offensive.
A Hammer is primarily a defensive weapon, stuns / knockbacks up the wazoo. When you’re prepared to do damage you dont want to just swap to mace/mace because the damage output is rather poor in comparison to Axe.
While the CC would be greater, the point of the weapon swap is to bring the pain.
Fair enough, sounds similar to what meditation guardians tend to do (swap one for stability shout or bane signet if needed).
Exactly, the problem with the traited stability is that it won’t kick in until after you’ve been stunned / knockbacked. So if you’re trying to hold a point you’ll get knocked off and THEN it kicks in. And here in lies the problem: Your forced to walk back up to the point (2-3 seconds) and in that time frame you lose stability.
How are you dealing with knockback heavy guardians / engies? I’m running a similar build (0/0/30/30/10) and I’m using Last Stand in tier 3 defense slot for stability, can’t really imagine fighting in Kyhlo clock tower without it :o.
I actually run a modified build akin to this but its more damage based. In it I run balanced stance (very very similar to the DPS Variant posted).
I would recommend to those having stability issues swap of FGJ for balanced stance, it’s almost a necessity against intelligent teams.
In regards to Clocktower – no matter what build I always swap out my utilities if I’m going to / holding that point. This usually consists of stomp / fear me / balanced stance in order to decap the point or wait until people arrive.
Utilities are situational so don’t hesitate to swap them out when needed.
Edit: Also added another video (http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/b/334806954) which show cases the Control / Survivability and Damage this build has vs. 2 thieves (2v1).

^Good! I’m glad you enjoy it. I’ve met a lot of people who are having success with this build.
But I’ll make you happy and edit it to 90%
Well you can never be 100% sure what a Software Developer tells you because in a matter of hours prerogatives can change and development time shifted.
^90% sure hes referring to establishing parameters like
-How many Pts to win a game.
-Map rotation.
-Total Players per Game.
I don’t expect people to understand the actual professional business world. I don’t expect people to understand project management paradigms, software engineering practices, or really anything that has to do with anything.
Some of us do, and this blog post is pure sales and marketing, .000001% substance.
Sorry, I’ve exhausted my fun for this game, and got my 60 bucks worth, time to play something else. I hope no one is upset.

I can 99.874456% guarantee that what we got was meaningless lofty goals because what generally happened was they didn’t get nearly enough done to warrant a real post. So you fluff it up to your client (us) in order to buy time.
Now, I understand the context of the post and why they did it (listed above). However, as a game company and as the poster (Jon) saying he’s a tried and true gamer. I was really taken aback by how terrible that post was.
Just plain terrible.
Now I know there’s some behind the scenes political motives to not committing until something is solid. But game companies explain what they’d like to do and what they’re moving towards on a common basis.
You can look to modern games for Transparency such as Planetside 2. PS2’s Development staff responds with phrases such as ‘Yea we see X as being a little to powerful, we’re going to give it a few more days and if nothing changes expect some reduction in Y to X".
It’s called being a responsible vendor, and Arena Net showed none of that today.

Personally I find this build to be rather poor for competitive tPvP.
Reason being that any form stuns or interrupts are going to completely nullify this build ontop of the extremely poor survivability it offers.
Also, stability is 100% a must now a days. No good team is going to let you stomp or Rez a teammate so stability is essential.
There’s something about having 26k hp, 2000 toughness and doing 1.5-3k hits / 6k crits on thieves while stunning them for 12 seconds that makes playing a Warrior wonderful (http://www.twitch.tv/defektive/b/334806954).
I tried other classes and each time I come back to my Warrior because I love it so much.
Who else loves their Warrior as much as I do and why?
(edited by Defektive.7283)
Yup more challenging / higher skill cap was the objective with Attack Combinations because it would force people to be aware of all their attacks and the coinciding abilities and then have to weigh the decision to weapon swap and start the swap CD in order to gain a large buff or do something important to an enemy.
However a lot of people who have commented believe that it may be easier/better development wise to give bonus’s / buffs / debuffs to current attacks instead of an attack system overhaul. So I made suggestions in that light in an earlier post as well.
What I would love to see is some ANet love in regards to:
Are these good ideas?
Bad Ideas?
Is more time needed to evaluate everything?
Some hints as to planned changes if any?
(edited by Defektive.7283)
^ This is what I have been saying, that we’re not in as much bad shape as people make it out to be. However there are some glaring issues in regards to boons and conditions we bring. A lot of our attacks are very straight forward:
Attack in a cone and do damage
Attack in 360 degrees and do damage
Attack the target only
We don’t have really much else in terms of fun and interesting mechanics.
Now I play Warrior exclusively. I’m very open with my skill level and I consistently post videos online for those to view or judge me by: http://www.twitch.tv/defektive
I mostly sPvP (r28) but I also leveled to 80 and I dungeon / some WvW.
I hope these ‘credentials’ are enough for me to say: I firmly believe that we should get some more interesting abilities in order to spice up the Warrior livelihood. I think it would go a long way to changing the perception of Warriors by people as well as making them a compelling class to bring to tPvP.
(edited by Defektive.7283)
I think one of the most common problems are methods for a Warrior to avoid damage.
I firmly believe giving the Warrior more ways to grant Vigor to themselves / Allies will result in a much higher survival rate and increase the skill cap. Forcing those who want to do well to be mindful of Vigor in order to survive.
We don’t have teleports, or stealth or protection. So give us Vigor so we can do what Warriors are meant to do best: Be in the battle, in your face.
