Wait, a post talking about the “OPness” necromancers and they weren’t even conditions, but minions? This…this is revolutionary!

On a side note, it is very hard to beat teams of certain classes all running the same builds. I noticed that during the tourny where it was teams of one profession, the profession were running really weird and out of the ordinary builds. Ones that you dont see too often in the meta. Imagine if the engineer team all ran tanks, or the guardians tanks. It would be a very long fight .

They would need drastic buffs for outmanned servers.. something where say 5 people could compete against 50 at once. That wouldn’t happen because the 50 would be whining. WvW seems to be filled with fairweathers.

Servers would not start running with fewer numbers for any buffs. Do you know how hard it’d be to coordinate server wide for people to stay out? Then add in the trolls, and the people with little time to play as is.

I have already written about this in some other threads:

Adding any sort of damage or offensive power to the outmanned side is a bad idea. It would seriously distort small scale and solo roamer fights, leading to insta gibbing. E.g. imagine a mere +33% damage buff. Normally a pure glass cannon thief can crit hit backstab about 20k against 2.5k armor, with the damage buff it would be over 26k crit hit, ouch!!

I am however for adding defensive buffs to the outmanned side. They should mainly affect structures and NPCs and to a lesser degree the players.

33.3% of total population per map for all 3 servers would mean a completely equally manned match up. Here are the new levels of outmanned and their effect to both health and thoughness.

<30% total population = outnumbered = +10% player buff, +20% NPC & structure
<20% total population = outmanned = +15% player buff, +30% NPC & structure
<10% total population = last stand = +25% player buff, +50% NPC & structure

E.g. if server A has 50 people on certain map
server B has 30 people on that same map
and server C has 20 people on that same map
A is 50%, no buffs
B is 30%, no buffs either (but close to having that outnumbered)
C is 20% is outnumbered and close to having outmanned

Another example:
Server A has 80 players on certain map (80%)
Server B has 15 players on that same map (15%)
Server C has 5 players on that same map (5%)

A is 80%, no buffs
B is 15%, outmanned
C is 5%, last stand

There should also be a special clause preventing a server having the outmanned buffs buffs on any maps if their total population ratio from all 4 maps is >35%. This would prevent servers from abusing this buff at off-peak hours e.g. by concentrating all players just to 1-2 maps and then map hopping, while enjoying buffs on those empty maps.

The breakout event, like I have commented in other threads, needs to be reworked. The NPC commander has lots of hit points, but it is still easy to kill it as it moves so slow. The siege placement is idiotic (way too close). The defenders just need few ACs + WXP traits to increase AC range and radius to destroy all that siege from the breakout event. Solution: increase the speed of NPC commander and veteran dolyak. Rework the siege placement. Even should be able to start with just 5 players interacting with the NPC (a really outmanned server won’t be able to get even those 10 players requires to start to event).

I am not claiming these simple fixes would stop the toxic domino, but at least they would give slightly better chances for the weakest side.

I love that idea. Making it so that outmanned players maybe stand some kind of chance of holding a place would probably be a lot more fun. Being in a tower with 5-10 people defending it against 30+ people and actually doing well in it would be insanely fun.

So I saw recently you added in a chance to get a tome in the black lion chest. This tome levels you up once. I also have been doing the frequent sprinter achievement for the new mini game and it got me thinking

What if you made it so that once a reset, if a player wins 5 ranked matches he gets one tome that he can use in PvE to level up. It helps with those dedicated PvPers to also have some viability in PvE so when they want to do something endgame wise in PvE, they dont have to deal with the dreaded leveling stage that deters a lot of PvPers from the PvE and WvW side of the game.

I mean a player would have to wait at least 80 days and win 400 tournament matches. I feel like that would be more than enough to award a pvper with max level in PvE, that is a lot of dedication to the game and it could make PvPing more rewarding.

Discuss, thoughts on the suggestion and possibility of using this tome in PvP as a reward?

It’s difficult to combat human nature.

This is true, but quite honestly I think the server vs server large 50+ vs 50+ combat isn’t good. I mean if they ever add in a AB mode or something similar where it is still a good amount of people (30 vs 30 or 20 vs 20), the game mode ends and is like pvp matchs in terms of they start and end, have PvE rewards, basically AB; WvW would probably fail. WvW is fun for now, but as the game moves on, other mmos are released, and the population drops it may prove to cause more harm than good.

Deified.7520

Hello,

With the recent update and look into what each candidate will offer, I’m here to tell you why Evon would probably be the best decision.

Now it is true that we use waypoint cost more than keys, however if keys get a 50% decrease in price or lower, chest can be very good. On top of the usual things like orbs, the repair canisters, and other boost; you can recieve permanent upgrades/items that are worth a lot in the TP. Ranging from 200g for a TP contract to 600g for a hairstylist. You can also win an item that levels your character up instantly, this could provide you some much needed help.

I know many of you must be saying, we can probably save more from the waypoint cost. This may be true, but consider this. If you receive even one karma booster, it can help you increase your overall karma gain substantially. Then you can buy orrian boxes and get T6 mats or even sell those grey items. The money gained from those could be close if not larger to what you could save with waypoint cost. Plus, those who are in fractals. You die and you rezzing may save the day, whats this? You have a revive orb! Boom save the day, don’t have to wipe.

Then you have the fractals. Lets be honest here, would you rather see some asurans (probably inquest) make a mis calculation in a Guild wars 2 version of a nuclear reactor, or would you rather interact, if not fight, a god and watch a god either die or the creation of the crystal desert.

From a logic standpoint, it is clear that Evon is the way to go.

Toxic Domino Effect in WvW

Deified.7520

Hello,

So lately I’ve been talking about WvW and its potential impact on the game in the long run on top of competing future titles that are introducing similar pvp modes with some friends. Something we agreed on is that WvW in its current state and combat style could be toxic to the game in the long run. It revolves around the domino effect the game mode has on the server.

So there is two instances where this domino effect can be noted in the game. First is low population maps. Lets say Team A owns nothing on this map. They manage to scavenge a group together and attempt to take some things. However, since they own nothing on the map not many people want to go in there and help. Why? Many feel they are outmanned and don’t stand a chance. So when someone does manage to pull teeth to get a group together, it is usually no where near the size of the defending team. This means that once the defending team sees they are attacking, they quickly zerg rush them and squash any players they see because they heavily outnumber them. This means that those people who were there trying quit or go to another map since they don’t really stand a chance. This means that nothing is really solved. The only solution is being in a huge guild that can gather a zerg that is big enough to counter them, this rarely happens on all servers though.

The other Domino effect instance is with guilds and moving servers. Right now Anet has a allowed guilds to become so big that if those guilds fail/disband/move, they had such a high number of WvWers in their ranks for that server that the server ends up failing in WvW. This means that the WvWers who aren’t in the guild see they no longer have a lot of people playing with them and it reverts back to the above domino effect. They then leave the server to either follow the guild or to another server that has more people/high win percentage.

There is another instance where the domino effect may be noted if they ever add it in. If they make it so that it is valuable/rewarding to win a WvW match, people will automatically lean towards server who win a lot or have a lot of “good people”. This can eventually lead to servers dieing in the WvW area.

I personally see these effects a lot and since release. I believe they are not healthy for the server or the game. Although WvW is fun, I fear thakittens ability to keep servers/this game a float will fail, especially when certain unnamed games will be released who have similar features.

My LS Prediction SPOILERS

in Living World

Posted by: Deified.7520

Deified.7520

So this will be using information from in game NPCs along with some information mined from dat files. So I’m warning you now, this will have spoilers

So something we know is that the zeph (zephyrites) have some connection with glint. On top of information from NPCs talking ingame, there is also the short story. It is of no surprised that everything surrounding them deals with crystals. Sky crystals, the new achievement weapons, the power ups, things like that. Most guild wars 1 players will remember about interacting with glint (a crystal dragon) and noticing that she had babies. The short story talks about the protectors of heritage and how they found something in her lair. It would be my guess it was a baby dragon and that they are taking care of it while it is granting them powers. Then you have a dragon model in the dat files and then “dragonmesh” textures.

Now for the prediction. I believe that Scarlet will learn about the dragon and try to take it for power. This may be a battle that happens mid air, may not be. She will attack the zeph sanctum. Who will come to the rescue? Kiel in her flying airship. A 3 airship battle would be so awesome, but we don’t know for sure if Scarlet has another Airship. Kiel will ask the players for help, defending glint’s baby and the zephs. This will then cause her to win a trade contract with the zephs and successfully accomplish what she was sent out there to do.

Hellfire vambraces for light armor

It is quite hard to design armor for all of them at once. What they need to do is take an extensive look at each armor set and find a group or armors that look similar or have similar textures across each armor set, then design the rewards for those. These are just so random and hardly go with anything. Some may say the hellfire go with CoF, take a look at medium. Medium CoF chest hides shoulders and defeats the entire purpose of it…

Deified.7520

They’re not that overpowered. Most necro mains will tell you that the only thing that should probably be looked at is dhuumfire, everything else has been about the same. We’ve always had the fears. Only thing that is different is spectral wall, and if oyu keep running into it over and over again well…yeah. Another thing, deathshroud doesn’t heal us. THe players you fought may be using their heal after they pop their deathshroud. Necros have low surviveability from skills (our defense is literally taking hits and 2 dodges), and we have no defensive boons. I would be disappointed with Anet if they nerfed necromancers and left some other classes that I’ve seen complains about constantly since release.

But you should post this spvp forums. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of responses.

ANet’s order of updates. PvE > sPvP > WvW.. at least you guys get new maps, on the WvW side we’ve been stuck with the same ones for 10 months.

I’ve started to enjoy sPvP, I hope they restructure the reward/glory system. I really do.

To be fair WvW has received a ton of more attention then sPvP. sPvP has gotten spectating, custom servers, and a few new maps (most of which aren’t even liked in tpvp). WvW has received every armor stat setup for badges of honor and gold, new traps, skins only found in WvW, then you have a large amount of titles and achievements. If we’re only talking about rewards, i think WvW has received a lot more attention then spvp any day.

I will be putting in “Did not Complete/do” responses for the question in case people didn’t do them. On the topic of getting more people, I notice that when I post in the general discussion forum, I get a large increase in responses from the average. Hello,

Before you start picking anymore skins for achievements, keep this in mind! You can apparently only get SEVEN zenith weapon skins and you can only choose THREE armor skins (1 glove, 1 shoulder, 1 helm). So if you choose radiant gloves instead of hellfire, there is no way you can hellfire (unless they add them in at future ranks).

Currently rewards go up to 10k.

You can find a complete list of rewards here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement

Good luck out there, spread the word, and remember to choose carefully! I know some people aren’t going to be happy about this and others will choose without realizing it.

Sanctum Sprint Review

Deified.7520

Hello,

So I’ve been playing this a lot, been doing the daily for it each reset and it is very fun. Here is my little review on it.

The game is really fun. I had a blast with it. Great track design, I love the small random parts. However, there are a few problems with it.

1. Balance. Fake Power ups are insanely over powered, especially on some parts of the track. With no counter plays it is very hard.

2. Predictable winners. Basically someone gets aspect master, wins on the first ground level straight aways, and stays in first the rest of the game. Reason being is that all they get is fake power ups which is insanely OP.

3. Bugs. Can’t tell you how many times my character didn’t stop the sun sprint, or didn’t land with lightning (as in he just kept rolling on the ground over the edge while doing the lightning leap).

4. No way to play with friends

Other than those things, it is very fun, great rewards (really did a perfect job on rewarding players for it), and a very nice change of pace. I’ve also seen the best of the community. Players will wait at the finish for people who haven’t gotten first so they can get the title, it’s awesome.

Build Diversity Issues

Deified.7520

I assumed nothing of the sort. I simply pointed out that the reason people don’t just sit in the kit is because the damage is pretty terrible outside of the 2nd skill. I use it all the time for the knockback and Blind.

My point was that if they want more diverse builds, they need to find ways to keep the power more equal across skills.

Grenade 2 hits as hard as the rest of the skills together. The GM trait they cooked up for the kit makes that gap even bigger, rather than diluting the damage increase across the skills. This makes swapping into the kit for 1 skill every 5 seconds even more appealing.

As it stands today, you can juggle kits and pistols for condition damage, or juggle rifle/ft/(eg sometimes or turrets) for control spam, or do something like Rifle /SD for burst.

People are using the kits like elementalist attunements, and just firing off the good skills and swapping back out. Unlike eles, these attunements don’t have cooldowns, and you get to pick which ones you want. Until they give people a reason to stay in the kits for more than 1-2 skills, they’ll probably have the same basic build archetypes.

edit: I should add that those game play types are perfectly valid and should remain in game, but I think that the design was intended to churn out more stuff like HGH nades in addition to the current crop of builds.

yeah, that is true. Right now I feel no other builds except HgH are viable. You can run them, but they’re not good. On top of that our class really has no place in pvp anymore. We were once condis, but now necro took that spot. I honestly feel like that is how necros should be, they should be the master of condis.

Build Diversity Issues

in Engineer

Posted by: Deified.7520

Deified.7520

So lately I’ve been trying to figure out how to make the other skills in into the meta, here is what I believe.

Right now the current meta in terms of utilities skill revolves around the application/manipulation of boons/condis or survivability skills (stealths, escapes, teleports, invurnabilities, etc). I find that if a skill doesn’t have any of these, they often are used.

Gadgets- Most gadgets do not offer anything I stated above. With the recent patch, rocketboots are now better escapes and we see a large increase in their usage. Slick shoes before hand were being used because they can be great methods of escape. The rest of the gadgets often don’t offer suitable things for the meta for their cooldowns. Goggles, for instance, they prevent you from being blind, break stun, and give fury. However, the other stunbreakers make it obsolete. For example, I can just use exlixir gun instead and get a whole new set of weapon skills and a regen stunbreaker with a smaller CD. So goggles just dont offer enough of what is needed in the current meta of utilities to makeup for its CD. Then we have Personal Battling Ram. In a game of aoes, cleaves, and condi spam, a single target knockdown with a CD 25 seconds makes it not viable. The toolbelt skill is eh too, most would rather get rifle turret if they want to go for projectile damage. Finally mines. They got a stealth nerf by taking away their boon stripe capabilities and that was one of theo nyl reasons I used it. Why get that when I can just get a bombkit? Sure it has a longer CD for a AoE knockback, but I’m also getting blind, burning, immobilize/cripple, all the things that are required in the current meta for utilities. If you perhaps restore the boonstripping capabilities, give us the option to throw the minefield instead of placing it at our feet, then making so the mine itself applies 2 stacks of Torment to all those hit, then it would be worth it.

Turrets- Right now turrets suffer from a lot of bugs, lack of meaningful damage, lack of utility, and vulnerability to the current meta. With teh amount of cleaves and AoEs, turrets usually can go down really fast. The toolbelt skills aren’t amazing either, so once they’re down you’re basically a sitting duck with no utilities. There are a few ways you can solve this. Perhaps make it so that Turrets level up the longer they are at, making them more effective. The current stats and setup of turrets would be level 1. Max of level 3. When you pick up a turret it saves it’s level. If it is destroyed then it resets. You could also put in a trait that negates AoE damage. Finally you maybe could make the toolbelt skills worth it and have more utility. As I said near the top, if a utility skill doesn’t have one of those things; it seems to be used less.

Kits- Very few kits do I see people stay in them to attack. They usually take advantage of the #2-5 skills then switch out. Flamethrowers knockback and Blind, toolkits pull/shield/confusion/cripple, elixir gun support (though with weakness changes I’m seeing more people auto attack with this), and those are the ones I see this problem with the most. You need to look at what each kit does and build on that. Take Flamethrower for example. Flamethrower is really good when close range and requires you to be up in their face. This means you need to get the enemy to stay close while surviving yourself. The juggernaught trait is great for adding tankyness, however the autoattack is eh in terms of the utility meta. Perhaps make it so that while the flame jet is dealing damage, it cripples the target. The minute the flame jet ends its attack, the cripple ends. This allows engineers to help keep target close and add group utility through a cone cripple, while giving players a counter player (when the flame jet ends, CC or just keep your distance). Toolkit is another example. This is a great weapon for melee, however our surviveability close range doesn’t cut it. One way I thought this could be helped is that at the end of an auto attack with our toolkit, we could receive a boon that synergies with close range in mind. So things like protection or even retaliation would be viable. Make it so we can’t stack it indefinitly, but it helps close range.

I really hope the meta changes for engineers soon. I find it extremely boring and I have to go with the “less viable” specs because I find elixirs very bland. I’m not saying they need to be nerfed, but I’d love to see the other fun and cool utilities we have start to take a role in combat.

So I traveled through all the zones getting every basket I could find. I got about 120+.
Here is what I was rewarded with. This total took me about 2g in waypoint cost and 1-2 hours.

-about 600 quartz crystals
-10 exotic celestial recipies. The one that was most profitable was worth 20s, the rest were around 5s.
-5 Fortune things. Total of 17 fortune scraps

Conclusion- I find it more fun and rewarding to do the race instead of farming baskets if you want to get a chance at the skins. Considering the baskets are once a day, I’d have to go through the entire map for 10 days doing this to have close of a chance of getting it, unless you get a gold.

Has anyone else tried this? What did you get?

I think this whole minigame could have been fun, but is actually very frustrating. The idea of beating masters is great, but giving those masters a advantage in a game that has little to no counter plays and relies heavily on luck makes it somewhat frustrating. I just did the human one and she just spammed woohoo, it was incredibly annoying and seemingly unfair, not to mention the large increase in hp.

In my opinion, you need polls with more open-ended questions. For instance, there’s a question about whether I like the new dungeon or not. My answer isn’t a simple, boolean “yes” or “no”. While I did like it overall, there were aspects of it that I absolutely hated. There should be a way to explain my concerns.

I do agree with you, however I am not sure how to word these with those things in mind. There are a lot of opinions dealing with these questions and each person usually has a somewhat unique view of the dungeon and things they like and don’t like. If you have a suggestion on how to word these questions so that I can include more focuses responses, i’d love to hear. Currently I’m trying to get the general gist of the community and what they feel about things in updates.

It is going to be similar, if not the same, to the Hall of Monuments reward system for Guild Wars 1 in Guild Wars 2. Basically when you earn achievements and do stuff in game, the points will go up. As said earlier, there will be tiers. So at 1,000 points you’ll unlock an item, at 2,000 another item, etc. That is my guess at least.

Lol, you are first one who want condi buff xD n1!

Not just a condi buff, but decrease the ability to be spammed. Seems like every skill applies a condition. If you reduce their ability to be spammed while increasing their importance, it could add more depth because you are actually worrying about when to apply them. Right now, especially with my necro, I just fire everything and only care about my fear and if they have stability. However, that simple worrying about fearing a target and stability makes battles a lot more interesting for me.

Hello,

Every time a MMO comes out, I always play PvP. It is something I enjoy immensely. Here are just a few things that I personally don’t like about the PvP in this game. I could be wrong, they are not the views of many people. Just my own.

1. Meta of Skills. Right now taking a stunbreaker is a must for every class. There is a wide spread amount of stuns/CC as a whole. This makes skills such as stunbreakers a must for every class and if you don’t you’re at a huge disadvantage. IN fights greater than 5v5, especially in WvW, a player can get stunlocked for ages and just die while stunlocked.

2. Conditions and their availability. I think that classes ahve way too much access to conditions and that conditions don’t really matter much. They are just side things that some classes apply and some classes spam. Most classes run with condition cleansing heals or some kind of condi cleanse because of the widespread amount of spamming conditions. I hardly ever see necromancers running without feast of conditions, rangers without their condi removal spring, engineers love to run with healing turret (though some run with medkit/elixirs, its a lot worse with that class). I think if you make conditions a little more…important in battles and then make their ability to eb spammed less, it would make for a lot better battles.

3. CC in the game. There is so much CC in the game, it seems to be spammed all the time. Immobilize, stun, daze, knockbacks, knockdowns, fear, chill, cripple, it is just too much. WIth the access to these CCs and then large amount of battles, sometimes event 5v5 (though its not as bad in those) you are just constantly getting CCed. The meta quickly becomes CC the heck out of one target and burst him down. This is especially evident in roaming in WvW.

4. Burst Damage. I feel that the overall burst damage of some classes in the game is way too high. Some classes do insane amounts of burst damage and have little forgiveness. For example, mesmers #3 on sword. If you dotn dodge or negate that immobilize, you have 2 choices. Pop a block/invurnabliity to negate the damage or die. Thieves too. If you dotn dodge their out of stealth attacks, they can hit you for a lot very very quickly. The problem with this setup is that when watching or in fights, you don’t get invested a lot. Battles between players go by so quickly it doesn’t make for a good thing to watch.

5. Animations. You already know about this.

6. Lack of cast times. Again, this just leads to a game that feels very very spammy in how it is played.

7. Roles in PvP. I find that the most common roles in the game are Bunkers and Glass cannons. Bunkers exist to help counter glass cannons and glass cannons exist to counter bunkers. What ends up happening is a holy trinity forms where the class that does the most damage without negating a ton of surviveabliity takes the glass cannon side and the class that can best counter that burst damage takes the bunker side. This is why we see classes such as engineers, guardians, and eles take bunker. It is not their stats that make them hard to kill, it is their skills. It is why we see thieves and mesmers take the glass cannon side because with the clone system, stealthing system, teleports, invurnabilities, evades, etc they can dish out a ton of damage while still having some good surviveability via their skills. It is tough to say what else to add to the roles because of the way the game is setup, these are pretty much the only things you need.

8. Interaction with boons and conditions. There is not enough of this in the game. Some of the most fun fights I’ve had have been with my necromancer. It is not simply because I can dish out some great condi pressure, but because of the boon stripping and corrupting setups. It adds soo much to the depth of gameplay.

So in short I feel reducing the availability of conditions while increasing their importance in battles, reducing the high burst damage, perhaps reducing the amount of non counterable survivability skills, and boon/condi interaction could result in more depth, interesting, and fun to watch gameplay. Again these are just opinions, I’m not a game designer so I could be wrong.

I was running through Lornar’s Pass the other day and spotted this. It looked really out of place sitting where it was. I saw your post so I went back a few minutes ago and took a picture of it.

That is very out of placed. I don’t remember ever seeing it there. Interesting.

Hi, I play Gw2 WvW and I take it very seriously. It is a good PvP mode that represents my skill. It isn’t reliant on numbers and it is perfectly balanced with big open areas and food buffs in mind.

Soldier Builds for WvW

Hello,

So awhile ago I bought soldiers armor for WvWing with tankcat. That was nerfed since then and I’m not sure what to go now. Turrets don’t really hold up, Can’t really do any condi builds, etc.

Does anyone have any builds that use this armor set?

Increase in WvW?

Today I’ve noticed I’m starting to lag more in WvW. Not even in zerg fights, but it seems all fights. I was doing fine last night, no idea what has changed.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing today or is it just me?

Hello,

After seeing the recent post about the home instance and meta achievement, I had this aching question. Will the home instance be given items for previous meta achievements? I’m wondering this because I didn’t do the Aetherblade one (didn’t interest me that much) and if you’re going to give us some kind of special node or useful thing in our home instance, I’m gonna go head and do it.

Thank you

I don’t think it is viable for anything that wants to be competitive. It forgives dieing way too much on top of a whole lot of issues in pvp.

There are very specific situations where going into downstate is actually beneficial but those are few and far in between. I don’t think very many people just think “its fine if I go into downstate no biggy”

Never said they do, but when someone goes down and you have 3-4 people power rez him instantly, seems kind of forgiving.

Skill level and Classes

in PvP

Posted by: Deified.7520

Deified.7520

Something I see a lot in PvP is people talking about classes in terms of skill level. There are two main aspects that I see most discussed…

1. Skill required to do “good” with a class in fights.

2. Skill required to kill a class in fights.

I have my own theories and thoughts about these two subjects, what do you guys think? Which classes do you feel “take the most skill” to play and which classes “require the most skill to kill”. I’d love to here everyone’s thoughts on it.

Hello,

So somebody found the door and posted about it a while ago on these forums. People speculated about what they’re for, where they’re from, etc. The first attachment is the gate itself. It is hidden away in the straights of devestation

The second attachment is the platforms found in the new JP. They look very very similar. I think this proves that they are of asuran orgin. Could this perhaps be an entryway into the depths? One of the first areas Asurans escape from the depths and made it to the surface?

As Colin mentions in this post and this post, based upon community feedback, we are adjusting our strategy to include a larger mix of permanent updates in the future.

I think the biggest problem people have with the Living Story is that too us we see you spending money and development power on it while we’d rather you fix some of the things in the permanent part of the game. Such as endgame problems, PvP problems, balance, etc. That is at least the popular view in my guild personally, so it can’t represent what everyone views as a whole.

you are missing one thing : D The power engi sepc was present and doable since day 1 the game came out. Now the new patch makes the spec even more deadly, i would say it is even meta viable now if used in a right way. To end it, Power engi is one of my favourite specs its like playing unreal tournament again, i have over 600 games with it and despite the fact that it has the highest damage output the game has to offer it would be sad if they nerf it, cuz it has to sacrifice a lot to burst like this. You have 1 condi clear 2 ccs, 1 immob, and dodges thats all the deffense u get with it… and i have not seen anyone who has actually mastered the spec, gogo people i want to see this in the new meta : D

What exactly is the specifics of this spec that you speak of? I have yet to see power engineers unless you’re talking about bomb builds.

PvP identity Crisis for Classes

in PvP

I completely see your point but you have to understand that creating individual identities for classes is not something that is easy without breaking other aspects/power of the class.

However, the lack of the trinity class system (tank/healer/dps) makes it a lot easier to give individualistic roles to each class.

But let me ask you this. If say engineer was tweaked to be the perfect point neutralizer, what happens when some one wants to play a condition build role or a far point assault role etc. I agree that certain classes may do it better but for mid/low level pvp, I am sure many will want to run such builds on a certain class they have become accustomed to/grown to love.

In summary, I agree with your thread but changes have to be made delicately so as to not pigeon-hole the entire class into just that one identity/role.

I see what you mean, but that has already happened with some classes. Engineer, for example. You pick one, level him up or start playing wtih one. You think its going to be fun but only to find out that everythign you do can be done better. Condi damage? People want necros. Bunkers? Guardians. DPS? Mesmers. Those classes I talked about are already pigeon holded into those respected positions anyways. I talk to many mesmers and a lot of them seem to feel high burst damage with shatterers is their only viable build. Necromancers seem to always run conditions. Guardians are almost always a bunker spec of some sort. IT seems like the more they fight the trinity forming, the worst it gets. No matter what they do, people will realize which class excels at what and a trinity will form on its own. As said in other parts of the thread, it is very very hard thing to counter or fix.

This topic actually already derailed to an argument that wasn’t the main point of the OP. The point was not to prove that Engi has it’s own role in the game or not, the point of the OP was that there will always be a class in the game, that will be left out of the popular tPvP team composition, because class roles aren’t as well defined as they usually are. There are classes in the game that sort of do the same thing, thus there will always be a class that does one specific thing better than another class, which leads you to the fact that in tPvP that class will be chosen over the one that is not as effective.

And with that point I do agree.

Getting rid of “holy trinity” really made no difference at the end of the day, because people just find some other criteria for building the perfect team up. In holy trinity based games you’re looking for a healer, now you’re just looking for another mesmer, necro, whatever. There is always some sort of holy trinity, in that form or another. And GW2 always had a holy trinity too, which for most of time by now was probably guardian, mesmer and ele/engi.

As far as I’m concerned GW1 still had the best class/role definition when it was released, with warrior being the only real DPS, monk being the only real healer and ranger, mesmer and necro all filling their roles really nicely.

It went downhill with release of factions and nightfall. Why? Because suddenly there were more classes fit for 1 role, and the class imbalance came into play – Dervish being supbar to war most of the time, ritualist just being whatever, never nearly as good as monk… Actually it just had no role apart from small arenas, assassins as usually were always going from UP to OP and back, paragon being some kind of stationary turtle spear throwing warrior that was absolutely ridiculous at the beginning…

Exactly what I was trying to say, I just didn’t know how to put it into words, thank you

Well then guardians are the point defenders. That’s their specalized role

Please fogive me, just being devil’s advocate, trying to understand what this is about.

The baseline point I’m trying to get across is that there is a lack of roles in competitive pvp leading to a meta that can make a class a lot less desirable. Engineers prepatch were great at condi pressure, but with the necro buff (which was needed) they are now in a position where they aren’t as desirable in competitve PvP teams. This is because there aren’t enough roles to fill from the simplistic system of Condis and Boons. When I watch these turny matches and what not, I usually see two things. A bunker/tanky classes and then high DPS classes that are either AoE physical or AoE condi. In other woods, cookiecutters.
