[Suggestion] The Right Time for Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mounts? Eh, sure, yah, why not? :p

We could have Dolyak mounts. And then introduce Dolyak breeding so that we could get different colored Dolyaks with different attributes. And have Dolyak digging, where you feed it a gysahl green and then it attempts to dig up stuff for you.

I love this plan. Let’s do it.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

I usually run with pugs, and my build is something what keeps everyone alive even if someone lacks the skill. I keep explaining the tactics to everyone and my runs are very smooth, without downed or dead players. I don’t run arah too much because it is long and I need my guild group for it. Yet, I have no problems with lupicus.

I and many other player who happen to use Berserker gear take the time to explain strategies when doing certain dungeon runs. Though I’ve always been very cautious about this, as many people can potentially take it as “that person is super bossy”. If anything, I’ll usually ask if anyone is new or wants the tactics explained, or I’ll even ask, “how would you guys like to do this fight?”

But I would like to make an honest suggestion. If you feel you’re a really experienced player, go and PUG Arah. I do know of a charr guardian in PVT that takes newbies through Arah here in NA, so it’s certainly possible to carry people through it. If you’re taking newbies through Arah, don’t think that your PVT will save them every single second through, and especially not on Lupi.

IYes I don’t like you, zerkers. Because it was you, the players who destroyed the sense of cooperation in this game, not Anet. You spoilt the game system and overcome everything by doing 10000000000000000 dmg in 1 sec and learnt to dodge 2 or three times before you kill the boss.
When I started playing this game on launch, it was about helping each other, about diversity, about tactics.

Now it is about you.

No. The blame lies with each and every single person who fails to live and let live, regardless of gear type worn. For every person who has failed to write an adequate lfg comment, for every person who has failed to respect another person’s lfg comment and joined regardless of the requirement.

Me too and I totally agree with you. Feels like ANET made only zerk build to take for everything.

Maybe(JUST MAYBE, doesn’t mean Im right) solution could be to buff and strengthen more mobs so people cant go with zerk everywhere

Not a bad idea. Let’s test this out with just one scenario first. Let’s take Mai Trin and Horrik and buff their damage. That should surely highlight for everyone the importance of having some defensive stats.

ANet provides the tools. The community provides the demand.

Not necessarily. There is only demand because of the way the encounters are designed. If they made the encounters that demanded other playstyles, then you would see a variety of builds and other gear sets being used.

Anet doesn’t see zerging and stacking as a problem though. They tried to change it with the revamped Teq encounter, and the Triple Wurm encounter, but overall, the dungeons haven’t been changed, and neither has the open-world zerging. This is why GW2’s PVE encounters are considered a joke in the MMO world. It’s a harsh thing to say, but it’s the truth.

True, the two go hand-in-hand and the Tools affect the Community. But there is a truism in human psychology. “How do I make it better?” This is what drives the community of players to step up their game. The most bleeding edge and forethinking players will work with whatever rules they are given to maximize their performance.

So honest question to you. I’m not opposed to seeing more diverse encounters. As far as stacking, I’m rather phlegmatic about it. In my eyes, stacking is a tool. Use it only when it makes sense. Wouldn’t make sense to stack on the Thaumanova boss, no point in trying, right?
Let’s take an encounter that might be an old tired hat that’s just “DPS it til it dies” and you explain how you’d improve it to where it increases the demand for “other roles” without shackling the game with a hard trinity. How would you improve the Effigy as the end of CoF P1?

Yesterday I saw some guild recruitment where it was claimed that they look for experienced dungeon/fractal runners. I consider myself such player, yet I was not accepted, because I’ve built my guardian on soldier stats and condi removing runes/traits which is very useful for the whole party, yet it lack some DPS so I was told GL BB

It is their perogative – as it is their guild – who they’d like to invite. They wanted to play with players of likeminded attitudes. To be honest, they probably did themselves as well as you a favor.

It is merely your ego that’s got you fired up because you feel someone’s taken a potshot at your “experienced” status. My suggestion is to let it go. It really is no skin off your nose if you failed to get into that guild.

However. I do have a question for you. If you Do feel that you’re quite experienced at Dungeons/Fractals, then you’d be able to do feats that most people would consider “experienced” only, yes? Like solo Lupicus in Arah. Or run full melee 49/50 fractals. Okay, now do it all in zerk gear. If you truly know how a fight works, then you ought to be able to do it in zerk gear, yes? Because if you know how each attack works, you’d be able to nullify the damage with just the perfect dodge or block. Anyone can stand in one spot and get hit while wearing tanky gear. Not everyone can complete a fight with nary a scratch on them.

Those zerkers are just dumb. Sorry, but they do.

Are you the quintessential PVT “tank” guardian? Because with grammar like this…

The most fun is when I see them play open world and some champ insta-down them. Most of them don’t even try to dodge. Thousand Blades rulezzzz, I guess.

I have a dirty secret. I rarely join “zerker only, must be meta” Arah runs. I PUG Arah, and there are times when the dice roll and you get that bowbear ranger, or the PVT or Cleric staffguard. I always make sure to be friendly. I have yet to be kicked from a PUG Arah.

The most fun is when I see Lupicus absolutely destroy them because they’ve never challenged themselves to learn their class or the fight. Most of them don’t even know when to dodge, because dodging’s never been that important to them. I do my due diligence and attempt a res if they’re right at lupi’s feet. But usually I’m soloing lupi before phase 2 ends. That is the most fun.

ANet provides the tools. The community provides the demand.

In my honest opinion, you’re unlikely to change ANet’s development as much as you’d hope, and you’re unlikely to change the community’s mindset at all.

Your Best bet is to gather like minded people around yourself and play the way you want to play with them. If you wanna spec for Healing or spec to “tank”, then it’s best to gather a group of friends who share your goals and want you to heal or “tank” for them. This scenario is a win-win for everyone around. Sometimes makes me wonder why people dislike this solution.

I disagree with the idea that GW2 isn’t RP heavy. The game is a sandbox. For you it may not be RP heavy, and that is perfectly acceptable. But there is definitely a population of people who desire to have tools for improving their roleplaying here.

In my honest opinion, I think that there have been really excellent things that have come from small teams that created stuff as a side project. Super Adventure Box is a prime example. Josh Foreman put together a small team to make something as a side project on their own time and it ended up being taken seriously and really improved Guild Wars 2 as a whole.

Personally, I have no vested stake in whether or not marriage would be implemented in this game. I think that if they had a small team of maybe 3-5 people who want to work on this as a side project on their own time, they have that right to do so.

If I had any say in it (and I’ve got about as much say as the next player, so… that isn’t much, ahaha) I’d say:

Sure! Add in Marriage. But my caveat would be that is Has to be permanent. No divorce. No matter how hard people cry they wanna get out. If people want marriage this badly, they’d better be serious about it.

I played FFXI before I played GW2. There were 2 generally used tanks, Paladins and Ninjas. Paladin was the traditional meat tank. They’d bulk up on defense and healing ability. Ninja was viewed as an “unorthodox” tank at the time because they seemed really squishy, except that they had an ability to create shadows – the equivalent of Aegis. They could upkeep near 100% of the time shadows, so people started stacking on the DPS stats. Suddenly, exp parties were no longer Tank + 2 DPS + 2 support + healer… a Ninja meant you had more like 4 DPS and 2 support.

As people improve in a game, they develop tactics that allow them to rely less on defensive and reactive mechanics and more on offensive and proactive mechanics. In other words, Defensive stats are padding to keep you alive, but it’s offensive stats that get the job done.

It’s people, not ANet, who decide that they don’t want people using defensive stats in their parties. So your best course of action is to surround yourself with like-minded people who like to play with defensive stats.

I wish they would have mentioned that such features as mechs wouldn’t be in the game. All they mentioned was that the traditional trinity wouldn’t be in the game. Why have I been so misled into thinking I’d be able to pilot mechs in this game?

There is no system is perfect, if you trying to find the cons, it’s always there. I am just suggesting some better solutions, not perfect perfect solutions.

Except that the first one would be worse than our current system if you allowed people to penalize others for kicking, since the potential for abuse would be massive. It’s not a better solution at all.

Not being able to invite someone after having to kick a person out of an instance is similarly a worse solution than the current situation. It affects the average player way more often than it would affect any circumstances of someone being kicked “out of spite”.

If you want better solutions, don’t demand that ANet make these vast sweeping changes. Instead, look to what is within your power to change. Run with friends. Run with guildies. The solutions have been staring you in the face, you just don’t want to accept them.

1. FIX THE GROUP AND LFG SYSTEM.
That includes: 1) do not delete the party chat after got kick; 2) add “decline” button when kick people dialog showing up;

While it would certainly be a benefit to have the party chat persist after changing zones, it wouldn’t affect people’s ability to kick someone out of their group. And usually, if you’re getting kicked by a group of people who know each other, they’ll have already coordinated the kick so that they can time it quickly.

3) build report system that allow people to fast report spite kick, people gets reported from “3 of the people has no connection”, can not join dungeon in 24 hours(or other penalty).

A system like this can easily be abused. A person with 2 RL friends who aren’t in their contact list could ask them to report a group who delivered a kick. If that kick was a justifiable kick (Maybe the person who was kicked was intentionally griefing the group) the members who delivered the kick would be punished for protecting their interests from a griefer with your system.

2. CHANGE THE DUNGEON SYSTEM.
When the group kick a people who is not disconnected in the dungeon, the group won’t be able to add another person into group unless they reset the whole dungeon.

Okay, so let’s suggest a scenario: A group has fought through Arah P4 up to lupi when all of a sudden the Guardian says, “omg brb kid vomiting”, and now she’s afk running in a corner. The team is down a person and they can’t replace her. They’re at the mercy of this Guardian who suddenly went afk and they don’t know how long she’ll be afk for.

Your system fails to protect the interests of this group and others similar to it.

Since the dungeon token, gold reward is daily. We can change it back to that split the daily reward in the middle boxes of the dungeon, and split the daily reward after each single fractal is done for FOTM.

This does offer some small measure of compensation, however again, it doesn’t reduce the chance of you being kicked (justly or unjustly).

In the end, all I’m hearing from you is, “Make it easier for me to report people who kick me.”

However, that doesn’t help, because ANet still needs to be able to discern if a kick was justified or not. Putting in mechanics that penalize someone for delivering a kick can easily be gamed and will most likely just end up creating different ways to grief others.

The only statement I think might be interesting would be splitting the daily rewards so you might have a “halfway through” daily reward.

Kick question

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DigitalKirin.9714

DigitalKirin.9714

When PUGging, I try to follow these general guidelines:

1. Appear friendly. Most people don’t kick others for absolutely 0 reason. This might only mean a friendly Hello! at the start of a run. Either way, it can’t hurt to start as friendly.

2. If you’re Really new, don’t join an experienced run. Also, when you join a group, state that you’re new and ask if they mind you joining.

3. Don’t offer advice unless asked for it. I know, I know, some people could really use the help. And if they don’t want it? You’re gonna see the loading screen. Now, my corollary to that is, if they’ve die a couple of times, you might say, “May I offer a suggestion or two?” If they say no, then keep your mouth shut and let the die some more. Can’t say you didn’t offer.

4. Screenshot everyone’s account name. Hover over their portrait and screencap it. You never know who you might decide you just wanna block. It’ll improve your future gaming experience cause you’ll know who to avoid.

Anyways, these aren’t foolproof (The universe can always build a better fool.) But I think it’ll make your PUGging experience a bit better if you are unable to join a guild.

When you’re the PUG in a 3 or 4 Guildie group don’t offer advice unless people are specifically looking for it. You might ask them if they want any suggestions or common tactics, but don’t start instructing unless they ask you to. Teaching a person that doesn’t want to be taught could potentially make them feel like you’re insulting their intelligence. Just consider this a life lesson learned, and it only cost you a low price of 60 tokens and a gold or so.
