Hmmm. I’m hearing Signet of Vampirism in the lead so far as most useless, unless Derenek has an argument for some of the racials as to why they’d be even less useful.
What if we opened it up a bit more?
Are there any traits or weapon skills that are less useful, or perhaps so bad that they potentially sabotage yourself or your party when equipped?
We have a “most used skill” thread, I figure, why not a most useless skill thread? So what’s the most useless skill you can think of? Why does it trump all others in wasted space?
Hi Jerus, thanks! Are you AFKing in unknown? XD
Lots of suggestions have been made regarding Fractal Weapon Skins. Figure I’d just throw another body on the pile.
My concern with most of the “Pristine Fractal Relic” suggestions is that you could do x number of fotm 1-10 and you get the same amount of Pristines as doing x number of fotm 50s. However, it would be nice to be able to say that every bit of work you put into FotM would contribute towards a steady goal of getting a weapon skin – and ideally the one you want.
My idea is this:
1. Every FotM Shard has an “experience” counter, kinda like the PvP reward tracks.
2. Every Rank is 200 exp.
3. Experience is earned when you complete a shard, and is based on the FotM level you’re doing. e.g. You finish Swamp at 20, you gain 20xp for your Swamp Reward Track.
4. When you’ve Ranked up in Every Reward Track, you gain a FotM Mastery Token. In other words, if you start brand new with 0 exp in all reward tracks, you have to get 200 exp in all reward tracks to get your first FotM Mastery Token. When you gain at least 400 exp in all reward tracks, you get your second FotM Mastery Token.
5. Redeem a FotM Mastery Token for either a Fractal Weapon Chest, or your choice of Ascended weapon/armor chest.
Thoughts?
Check to see what your dodge key binding is under Control Options. Open your Game Menu, look at the 4th tab (the one that looks like a mouse).
Or just ask a mod to move this topic instead of making a new one.
Open up your Game Menu and under General Options look for “Double Tap to Evade”. Turn it off. Does that help?
Check to see what your dodge key binding is under Control Options, as well, just in case.

Make sure to have reflects/projectile absorption up for the elementals.
When the boss shields up, keep the boss targeted while you Attack, you don’t actually have to hit him to knock his shield down.
Multi-hit attacks like Hundred blades only counts as 1 attack for shield removal.
Don’t run over the lava pits.
Windows API allows for consistency when programming, and you’re practically guaranteed that hardware companies provide driver support for Windows. I couldn’t imagine the nightmare it would be, even if releasing a game to run natively on a single flavor of linux or any other *nix.
Next Engineer Update: Due to popular demand, Engineer grenades have been rebalanced to 600 range to make them more realistic.
I like to think that the general populace tends to make things worse when they bring up issues like this.
Also, you tend to drift off to the Unknown realm whenever we try to invite people
Jerus is the King of the Unknown Realm.
Jerus has a Kingdom in the Unknown Realm. His unknownites will attack us all some day.
The problem is that when only the thf hides, it’s 4 ppl going, “Hey, why am I getting targetted more often?” And in a PUG, oft times that turns into 3, then sometimes 2…
This is not to say that on the rare occasion I go thief, that I don’t do this. >.> But only if I dislike the people in the group… XD
Cannon is fun, if you’re in a group with friends it becomes a minigame in and of itself ><
Everytime I see my guildmates shadow refuge to get cannons off of them I immediately sprint over to them in spite for putting more work onto my plate..
I do this in PUGs. /highfive
It’s a typical problem that the last few files won’t load. Just restart the client, it’s usually enough.
So…just had to basically turn it off, then back on….
Happy Valentine’s Day, all! I hope it’s a day that you can enjoy in the company of loved ones.
Just for fun, I thought it might be cool to have a brief thread to highlight all of the lovely and/or romantic spots in this land of Tyria.
Please show off your screenshots here!
You know you reached boredom when :
Boredom is the exact opposite for me.
thief: dual wield kusarigama (1h scythe) but without the ball and chain
The Kama is the 1h scythe that you’re thinking of.
A kusarigama without the chain and fundo is like saying “A spear, but without that long pole thingie.”
The only way to kill the idea of “meta” is to make player decisions not matter anymore.
Hey guys I have this crazy idea. What if there was some sort of…. box that the fractal weapons dropped in, where you got to pick which weapon you actually wanted. Just thinking out loud here. :P
But this box you speak of might be put in a very high level of Fractal… Say… 51+.
Oh and just in case people think that might be too easy to achieve, they might reset people’s fractal levels to Really make them earn it.
Never forget.
I play for fun. I don’t want work hard, absolutly not.
Even with 70AR, FotM 50 would be the wrong place for you. If you can’t equate hard work with fun in your mind, then you shouldn’t be there.
I’m more upset that every class got a serious legendary and rangers got “toys”.
Bolt is a lovely weapon.
I was promised fun. I am disappointed.
NOOOO!
Don’t do it! It belongs in a museum!
So do you, Dr. Jones!
Do you wanna build a snowman?
It doesn’t have to be a snowman.
Seriously though, grab me for SE2 anytime!
If you haven’t finished SE P2 and you need someone (not that you haven’t gotten tons of offers already) I volunteer myself… and Franco, who sometimes lurks here.
Merry Christmas, Ropechef!
Wow, incredibly well done!
^^
I remember in DCUO we did runs without healers once we could. We would also do DPS tanks/Healers even in current content once we mastered it.
EQ our goal was to have 2 tank groups, and then 7 DPS groups for raids and even then we often slipped in bards for the tank groups to make their DPS better knowing we didn’t need another healer/tank in there.
The difference between GW2 and other games is that in GW2 everyone is a hybrid. Everyone is a tank/healer/dps all wrapped up in one, removing those roles basically and instead putting the focus on proper use of the skills you have.
Just as in FFXI as well. People thought you needed to have Tank, 3DPS, Support, Healer to have a good party. Then people started having the DPS share the tanking duties and parties were rocking 4 DPS, Support, Healer and doing better. Then they started dropping the healer and going 4DPS, 2Support where the 2nd support character basically was laying down damage buffs and doing the job of pulling.
Edit: I’ve also been wondering why the OP thinks it is ironic that ANet got rid of the Trinity for their game. A better use of the word irony would be, “Isn’t it ironic that ANet promised to get rid of the trinity, but then implemented a hard trinity two years later?”

So why is Marty wearing Hockey equipment?
Edit: Oh right. PHIW.
So do you just log on to comment on misunderstood sports analogies now, or what?
:-P
I’ll go back to adding thoughtful discussion when ANet produces meaningful additions to our roster of dungeons.
Let’s say there are some fields that kids like to play on, and Marty wants to play Soccer (football for those of you outside the US). The sign outside the fields says that you can play whatever you want, and so Marty goes over to the Varsity Soccer team playing soccer and says he wants to join the game. The kids tell him that they don’t want to play soccer with someone below their skill level, because it embarrasses them to have to do so. There are some other kids a few fields over playing soccer, but instead of going and playing with them, he keeps arguing with the varsity kids. “I want to play soccer with people who are experienced!” he tells the other children, but the other children ignore him and go back to their game of soccer. Marty tries to play soccer on the same field as the varsity kids and manages a few plays before getting hurt. The children kick him off of the field they’re playing on, and go back to their game. Instead of going and playing soccer with the other children who are still playing soccer, he goes to the parents, and tells them how the other children are bullying him and excluding him. The parents scold their children for excluding poor Marty. Marty still isn’t satisfied, and demands that the parents make their children play soccer with him. What do you think the parents are going to do?
Changes things a little.
So why is Marty wearing Hockey equipment?
Edit: Oh right. PHIW.
Imagine a guy who played ice hockey and was the goalie. Now he plays basketball. There is no goalie in basketball. But he wants to use the goalie skill set and feel like he contributes. How much respect do we have to give to his ideas to revamp the rules of basketball to allow goaltending?
That last analogy is actually in accurate. The healer in this case would be the catcher and Baseball definitely has those, there are also catchers on each mound on the way to home. So yes there is such a thing as a goaltending process in Baseball, even if it’s not like the rest Baseball is a complete picture of rules to handle all situations.
The driving motivation behind what all games call the “Metagame” is the desire to be better. Better than you were before. Better than that guy over there. Whatever. Until you can deal with this issue, there will always be the danger of a “Meta” in a game.
You can eliminate the “meta”, but at what cost? So long as there is more than one choice which makes a meaningful difference, there will be a Meta.
If you really want to eliminate the “meta”, then eliminate choice. When everyone has only one meaningful choice, then everyone will be equal.
Personally, I’m okay with there being a Meta.
We could end the “Meta” by giving everyone a pointy stick, a whip, and a candle to light their way.
Interesting. You say you’re on TS (which stays up) but your connection to ANet’s servers goes down. If it were a problem with ANet’s servers, wouldn’t you hear a general outcry on Teamspeak? A DDoS attack is similarly unlikely for the same reasons, you’d hear a lot of people saying that they were losing connection all roughly around the same time.
That isn’t to say that there aren’t server instabilities. I noticed after last Tuesday’s patch that I and several of my guildies had been disconnected all at the same time, and then we ended up rolled back to a map we had zoned out of, and 1 step in our story instance had to be redone.
There’s a command in game that allows you to see the server’s IP address: /ip
Once you obtain that information, you could attempt a tracert or traceroute to that IP to see if maybe the problem is along the way to ANet’s servers.
How do you feel about half-dragon half-elf vampires?
they didn’t even know the zerg meta.
What if they were playing Protoss?

Reminds me of those old “Unnecessary Censorship” gags, lol.
Many plus ones.
Had a pug rage from a fractal 29 today. It was on the Reactor fractal. We portaled to the center switch at the start. Their final two lines of chat were:
“ah, you mean stupid exploit instead of running the instance correctly”
“gl”After that, they apparently blocked us.
Funny. I was in that party. I told my guild about that and they all had a good laugh.
It’s not a glitch. It’s an “Unexpected Feature”.
If one was programming this game, they might choose to use just one field for the money, then perform simple calculations to break it into silver and copper.
If they used an unsigned 32 bit integer, which has a max value of 4,294,967,295, then you’d simply divide by 10,000 (100 × 100) to find out how much gold you’d be able to hold. Course, this assumes a lot. You’d be able to carry 429,496 gold and 67 silver and 95 copper at the most if this was true.
But what if they used a 64 bit unsigned integer? Well the max value for that is 18,446,744,073,709,551,615… (That’s 18 quintillion plus change). Again, if we used the last 10,000 to keep track of silver and copper, we’d be left with a modest 1,844,674,407,370,955… 1.8 quadrillion.
I think I could see myself subtly nudging some metal circles and rectangular paper towards ArenaNet’s direction on the same day as a Mad Memoires reintroduction, if you know what I mean.
Handcuffs and restraining orders?
I would do everything the same. No regrets.
May I ask for your main?
Genevieve Talbot. She’s had that moniker since around ‘03 as a D&D character. War and Thf in various incarnations throughout the years. She’s a warrior here, just as I had her a War main for FFXI. In the end, her class is incidental to the adventures she’s been on.
I would do everything the same. No regrets.
When ANet gives you items…
… Make item-ade?
You could always use netstat to find out what GW2.exe is connecting to.
So what does your tracert indicate to you? Have you attempted to use different looking glass tools as well?
