Yes, I agree. If 1 defender shows up & knows how to use siege. We deserve to fail.

That’s how good mechanics work.


I’m just venting because for the past 6 months…this is what I was looking forward to using as a PUG Commander to rally the minimal troops on map.

I feel that ANet is making WvW only for the Minor & Major League baseball teams.

The Little League baseball teams…like the PUG based militia I command are kept outside the ball park.

We are shunned and everything we fairly earned in Guild Upgrades that strategically helped us…literally were stripped away & put behind a massive Guild Requirements.

So I hope you understand why I’m…pretty disgusted actually…that the Traveler’s Runes that once worked before HoT is now nerfed.

sigh

ANet is killing my spirit to be a PUG Commander…I’m sure this feeling is shared by others…not sure if it’s a lot…but it’s really crushing.

Ok…getting off my soap box.

Game on folks…as best as we can.

Imagine spending 1 gold coin to buy the golem.

Having to build golem with 1 – 3 players.

Run it from camp to tower….but in the time you do it. You get attacked by 1 – 2 roaming players….there are 2 enemy sides btw.

Rinse & Repeat…

How many of your 1 – 3 man team will help you again?

This is an interesting concept to allow players to return to previous maps from the past. If minimal coding to allow spawning of the map is done…that dropped all players into these maps in an “explorer” mode for interaction.

+1 for suggesting an idea to re-use old content.

ANet please fix this. It worked before HoT & was a strategic choice many Commanders used in making Golems viable.

Thank you for posting this…

I’ve been working for the last 6 months on creating a Full set of Celestial & Travelers is flushed down the toilet.

As a PUG Commander I was betting on using golems to spark tower assaults with the previous ability to use the Traveler’s Rune.

It’s really depressing to play WvW & to try and do something to motivate other players to join in…while these oversights break my spirit.

PROPOSED NEW MAP MECHANIC

1) Core Map Mechanic

New Home World is contained in a Globe.

Alliances should be Player based & not system enforced imho. Let the players dynamically create it themselves.


Globes breaks open the only 2 enemy worlds attacking your server mode that is built into the Current Map Mechanic.

This is why I’m proposing to throw out the Current Tier Based system of 3 Worlds fighting each other in 8 or 9 Tiers.

All Globes have the potential to attack each other in an all out battle royale in this New Map Mechanic proposal. Imagine 24 NA & 27 EU Home Globes crossing over borders to fight each other…which will happen with this New Map Mechanic.

Keep in mind the player’s choices in attacking a Globe is subject to a Guesting-Limit that is in place to reduce un-fair matches from occurring. ANet can increase or decrease this number based on players trying to game the system.

Also, the WvW scoreboard will be redone to display the Top 3 Enemy Globes attacking your Home Globe in a random fashion to help you decide who to attack…this should help further randomize the Match-Ups that’s based on individual players choices


The New Map Mechanic will allow you to play with friends & family even if they’re on a different Enemy Globe…

That being the case…you should be able to team-up & form Alliances to fight a common Enemy Globe between yourselves.

Your friends & family might be in a Globe that’s in a different Time Zone from yours & can probably recruit better in that Time Zone to help launch strike attacks against the Globes that attack your Home Globe at night.

In my opinion…this should lead to more dynamic Match-Ups…which hopefully will level the field….as it becomes a lot harder to be the top dog with more Globes attacking each other.

I’m for Time Zone based Alliances that will allow International pride to be nurtured.

That’s how this Player based Alliance is envisioned to work.

I disagree with you about implementing manual & free upgrades for everything.

Manual Upgrades Protecting your Home Server Borderland should be FREE.

Manual Upgrades Expanding into Enemy Borderlands or EB should Cost Gold.

The Cost of Upgrades in Enemy Bordrlands or EB should be considered an INVESTMENT that give Players reasons behind protecting it.

I have to disagree with you about the server merge. In my opinion…given the current base map mechanic…ANet would probably need to merge all servers into 6 worlds.

We would ened up with 3 Worlds for NA & 3 Worlds for EU. Then the stale Match-Ups would occur again. Not a long term solution.

I’m actually hoping they bring back the Old Alpine map.

The New Desert map seem to need a larger critical mass of player before the fun starts.

I’d suggest that

1) ANet bring back the Old Alpine map
2) Get WvW population to return to playing WvW & to stabalize
3) Introduce a New Base Map Mechanic & Reboot the Population
4) Get WvW population to stabalize around this new change
5) Allow population to increase
6) Re-Introduce the New Desert Map when there is a very large critical mass of players.

It’s not that it falls on deaf ears…they’re just not allowed to respond themselves.

Just a different perspective…that may or may not be true.

You might be misunderstanding the proposal. Proposal will do the following:

1) Preserve All Home Server Identities by converting Servers into a Globes.

2) Enemy-Guesting Limit allows players to Enter any Globe, but allows ANet to keep players from gaming the system.

3) Re-Use of Old or New Map is possible with a few tweeks that are already detailed in the proposal.

4) Players from Different Globes can chat and agree to meet on a shared Enemy Globe & form an Alliance to fight together.

5) Players from Low Population Globes can choose to visit higher ranked WvW Globes to team up & form Multi-Globe Alliance Zergs.

Explained below in the New Map Mechanic:


PROPOSED NEW MAP MECHANIC

A) Require Players to Choose 1 Home World Globe to represent.

B) Allow Players the Potential to Attack All Enemy World Globes & to Team-Up with Players from other Enemy World Globes. It’s possible for Players to create an In-Game Alliance with other “Friendly” Enemies to attack a 3rd Enemy’s World Globe.

C) Implement a WvW Home Globe Rank system based on weighted statistics.

Note: Players can pick a different Home World Globe from their Guild.

How to make Guild Cata/Golem?

Awww…my Guild isn’t big enough.

I guess we can’t ride the main attractions for WvW anymore…since they changed the ride requirements.

Funny…we used to be big enough.

I guess we’ll just wander around WvW without being able to ride the main attractions & try to enjoy it.

Probably hang out at the EotM snack bar more often…while watching other Big Guilds ride the main attractions.

Oh goody…at least they serve fresh daily Karma covered Train there.

Hope it doesn’t get too crowded with the other small guilds that are stuck in the same situation as us.


ANet…I hope you realize that you’re destroying the Little League baseball teams…and making it a requirement that Guilds need to be Minor or Major League in scope to use the strategic upgrades that make a difference in the WvW Universe.


ANet, go ahead & let the Big Guilds earn their access to many of the New WvW Upgrades that you worked so hard to implement.

But, please give us back our Old Guild Upgrades that many of the Little League Guilds have earned through fair play & hard work.

Also, allow us to earn/farm resources on the Borderland & Eternal Battle maps of WvW to use these Old Guild Upgrades.

That’s a boatload of changes, but I still feel the most important thing that ANet should consider changing:

1) Base Map Mechanic – How Match-Ups are created & adjusted to prevent/reduce stale & un-fair matches from chronically occurring.

2) Implement a system to allow Players to create Communities around Time Zones to spread out server populations, but not restrict players in What they pick & Who they can play with.


There is a solution.

New Changes

New bug found…

Attacked a few towers in the desert borderland last night. Walls were clickable & could be breached.

However, they don’t display a description on what type of wall that we’re attacking…it does display the health bar of the wall…so at least that helps for now.

Paper vs Reinforced.

This impacts scouting intel for home team, but I guess you can reference supply of tower to tell if the wall is probably reinforced.

I believe GW2 is actually heading in the P2P (Pay to Play) direction. Someone correct me if I’m wrong —, but I believe you can now buy Ascended weapons and armor from Raid vendors? 20g each?

If WvW is made for casual players as you state…then that means the WvW game mode will reflect that playstyle imho.

WvW as we used to know it…that was based on Server Communities fighting it out over several hours for glory…will be a thing of the past.

WvW will be something you drop by…play a few rounds…then leave. Meh…did my daily…time to do something else.

They’re killing the WvW Community & they don’t realize it.

The adjustments they’re doing runs counter to creating a nurturing environment for small…and now large guilds in my opinion.

Forcing the WvW players to play the map how the developers believe it should be played…will have a huge backlash…coming from my gut feelings.

The developers it seems don’t have a solid WvW Vision that should drive a detailed plan on how the WvW Universe runs under.

If ANet is looking for one…they can search the forum for one…many…many…ideas are posted here. I’ve got one posted myself as Reboot the Base Map Mechanic & Population.


Seriously…they’re trampling all over the WvW Communities.

Sorry, I’m a little bit disgusted with this…if it’s their attempt to force WvW players back into their BL to defend it against these Enemy Only Controlled WPs…they’re designing things using negative reinforcement…without considering how to create a nurturing BL.

Actually…this Enemy Only WP for East & West Keeps in Home BL…encourages more KTrain…which is a bread & butter setup of EotM to encourage the constant feeding frenzy cycles…imho.


You’re gonna burn out the Human WvW Commanders on low population servers…that help to build & sustain WvW Communities…and when you do…will you Code Siegerazer to lead the charge at the same time in all Borderlands. Three Zerg Armies will run….and never need to fight each other…take the fun & glory away from human players…and have game autorun…is this your Vision of WvW?

You’re beating the fun out of why I play WvW…and you’re making me follow things mindlessly to play WvW.

Ok…rant over…game on, or less, or more pve to pass time that was enjoyed in WvW before.

Still a fan of WvW…but really struggling…

Hmmm…Instead of pairing a Language with Time Zone.


I’d like to propose the following instead.

Bold are the changes from the original.

1) Create 21 Theaters of War & Assign at least 1 Home Globe to each Theater, or not even launch the Theater if no population.

2) Ask the entire Population of each World what Time Zone they want to be in.

3) Next, use a Vote Ballot NPC in each WvW Borderland to help each World decide which Time Zone they want to be in.

4) Label each New Home Globe using the Time Zone that the majority of its Population chooses.

5) Allow Players to back out or go back to a previous step as they decide which Home Globe to represent.

6) Prominently Display All Home Globes & their Assigned Time Zone in a list to help Players Choose which Globe to represent.

7) Selecting a Home Globe will next Prominently Display a Globe’s Language Population Distribution Percentage – Primary & Secondary.

8) Players are next asked to Input a Primary & Secondary Language Preference from a list as they make their Final Decision on which Home Globe to represent.

9) System Auto-Updates the Globe’s Language Population Distribution Percentages based on the Player’s Language Preference profile.

10) Allow Players to Re-Populate the New WvW Universe according to their choice of a Home Globe.

11) Host an Annual Event to Re-Locate a Home Globe Theater using a Vote Ballot NPC to help re-allign a World’s Time Zone in the future.

PPT does have a purpose to keep an element of urgency to scoring, but past a certain point it works to de-moralize the loosing team. How about the following:

…Weekly PPT Cap of 25,000 – 100,000 Points for each Globe. ANet to adjust value to keep runaway scores from happening

Objective capping points sounds really appealing. Rewards players for actually doing something. Keeping it simple to reduce development & coding.

…Per Cap – Objectives captured earn points at flip. Higher points are earned based on the Objective’s Upgrade Tier when flipped. Extremely low points awarded for objectives that have zero upgrades


You really had some good ideas. Need to keep it simple so the ANet developers have an easier time to implement…and less things that could go wrong in computation of points…

Then at some areas I feel you are not going far enough with proposed changes. Why you feel its important to have exactly 4 maps to fight in? Just because we have 4 now is not really good reason if you try to improve current system. Why not have just one map? Specially when 3 maps are currently empty. If, and only if first map is already full of people, open up next map to fight for.

The other thing I really dislike about scoring is the constant tick based on how many objectives each side is holding. This tick basically rewards servers for not fighting, not being active, not even being online. And its terrible. I honestly do not feel any new and improved system can implement similar passive ticks where score is increased just for nothing. There should always be players doing something before they earn some points. Just for example you could get points for capturing objectives (but only once, when you capture them) or upgrading structures (obviously not with auto-upgrades like we have now but really bring in dolyaks, spread the supply around and talking with guards so they dont run off) or even capture a flag events spawning randomly on the map. What I am after here, is that you should never get any rewards if you are not doing anything and all the rewards should scale based on how many enemies are active same time.

Personally…the Old Alpine map in my opinion had the right size and feel. New map will take time, but it feels like it just needs a higher number of players to reach a critical mass where the fun begins. If WvW Commnities are nutured properly…having 4 maps already in place would allow them to grow into it.

Also, ANet already engineered 4 maps. Throwing out the current configuration will probably add to the development time. I’d rather have the developers devote more time into converting the Old Tier Based System into a Globe Based System as quickly as possible.


This Reboot of Base Map Mechanic & Population is flexible enough to work with the Old Alpine Map or New Desert Map.

Hmm…just noticed…Blood Lust Buff is not possible without Ruins right? I’ll have to update the Parent Proposal to have a Pending Removal due to HoT Release.


Current WvW Map Mechanics does have scoring based on when players are doing things.

So you’re proposing that the Per Tick points be lowered? That’s possible…ANet just needs to adjust the points earned per tick.

Or, are you suggesting that Points Only get awarded when an objective flips?

How about when objectives Flips & Per Tick?

What else would you recommend given the above information that is also being proposed.

Replacing them with Globes based on time zones sounds fine to me. Maybe I missed it, but I did not see any mention of different languages. For US its not a problem. However in EU most servers have some additional language/country beside english. Some like german or french are official server languages, some like russian or polish, italian or finnish just tend to gather into one or two servers. Representing your country could be massively important, even more then playing in certain timezone.

I have to agree that this suggestion will help to build a better WvW Community.

Any other Languages or Time Zones that should be considered to be added to the Main Proposal that is focused on discussions on Rebooting the Base Map Mechanic & Population?
