WvW didn’t get harder…just the rewards of past efforts got nerfed in my opinion. I’ve always played under rough and un-even odds…so that doesn’t bother me.

I’m still probably going to play WvW after doing PvE grinding to get resources in place so I can enjoy WvW.

In the meantime…I believe in my opinion…all WvW World Communities as a whole will decline due to the PvE grind that will happen with HoT & Holiday events.

I’m still a hard core WvW player. You got the wrong impression from xXBAKESXx comment. I’m very comfortable fighting for hours with outnumbered buff on. Usually I look for the BL that can give me that buff while I run havoc for my Home World.

No disrespect to either of you btw…just disappointed with things on where WvW game mode is going…imho. I feel that ANet is trying to make hard core WvW players fit their vision of how we should be playing…and past achievements are thrown out as they mold us into the new play style.

My guild has only 1 member. Me.

Long story short: before HoT i had 2 guilds both sustained with influence points purchased via an NPC (that has been removed).

Now you can say all you want about how pathetic it can sound to have not 1 but 2 guilds as a single player. However, point is with both upgraded purely for +5, i was able to either have 2 +5 in a map or “chain the 2 claimings” so that my server/s could have +5 even after i logged off.

And if you are a smart/experienced WvW player, then you can immagine how useful that “tactic” can be. Not to brag, but as for +5 claims i was more reliable than entire guilds.

So i’ll get to the point. I am not in a real guild. I am not interested in GH and all the rest. (Altho ofc i perfectly understand real guilds want to discuss and fix any problems about GH, upgrades etc, and i genuinely wish you all the best luck with that).
All i want is the +5

Before HoT I spent many days/time/gold to care about sharing +5 with my server and now suddenly the game threats me like some kind of “non-WvW-player”. This is riddiculous.

Yes, guilds hall are for guilds, yes, give them all the upgrades they deserve, i am totally fine with that. But please, don’t cut me off +5 only because i prefer to stay guildless…

Totally agree with you. I actually have a larger guild of 50+ members, but people don’t represent.

I USED to run as a Solo PUG Commander capping camps for my BL.

Now…I feel I’m useless. I can’t really WvW anymore.

I’m currently working in PvE to earn my Masteries…so I don’t fall behind the PvE curve and to earn Hero points to get my Elite.

It’s going to take me some time to get my Guild Hall and War Room.

I’m feeling like HoT is cheating me out of what I had before for my guild…and took me over 3 years to unlock over constant playing.

Prior to HoT I had the following unlocked for my guild:

Architecture Level V
Example – Guild Stash / Treasure Trove / Deep Cave

Art of War Level V
All bonuses for Level V
Example – Guild Catapult / Siege Suit / Bounty Tier 1-3

Economy Level VI
All bonuses for Level VI
Example – Vault Transport <—- It’s supposed to be grandfathered to my guild

Politics Level Level VI
All bonuses for Level VI
Example – Heroe’s Banner, etc


Edit – Hurts I can’t +5 Camps like before…until I get a Guild Hall & War Room.

I feel like I worked really hard to un-lock a lot of things of a guild, but I can’t have a Guild Hall for me to just hang up my hat & try to start a social environment for the guild members that currently don’t represent.

If anything…please provide Micro-Guilds a Guild Hut/Room…so we can have a place to start building a community…much like the Guild Halls in GW1.

PART I – New Map Mechanic


What’s the reason behind this New WvW Map Mechanic?

The answer can be found in the following WvW Vison below:


1) World based War…that’s why it’s called WvW.

There could easily be 3 Worlds to 1,000 Worlds at War.

New Worlds can easily join the War in the future.

Old Worlds can be retired from the War if its population can’t support it.


2) System that allows World Communities to grow or survive.

All Worlds should be able to increase their WvW Home Rank themselves, or through Players Creating Alliances with other Enemy Worlds by teaming up.

Low Ranked Worlds that have a low or declining population level are automatically protected & allowed to survive.


3) War between Worlds should typically have no borders, but should have limitations to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.

All Players/Guilds are given the ability to attack any World.

All Players/Guilds are given the ability to team up & play together with friends that have moved to other Enemy Worlds.

Map Mechanics will be in place that scales and can be adjusted to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.


PROPOSED NEW MAP MECHANIC

A) Require Players & Guilds to Choose 1 Home World Globe to represent.

B) Allow Players the Potential to Attack All Enemy World Globes & to Team-Up with Players from other Enemy World Globes. It’s possible for Players to create an In-Game Alliance with other “Friendly” Enemies to attack a 3rd Enemy’s World Globe.

C) Implement a WvW Home Globe Rank system based on weighted statistics.

Note: Players can pick a different Home World Globe from their Guild, but can only Claim Objectives if they share the same Home World Globe.


1) Core Map Mechanic

New Home World is contained in a Globe.


a) Home World is called a “Globe” and is made up of 4 maps (Green, Red, Blue, EBattle). Home Team is given WP advantage on all maps except in Eternal Battle

b) Geographic Theaters of War are setup to create player match-ups that are physically closer to each other for performance, but players can still visit any Geographic Theater of War

……….i) NA – North America – 24 Globes
……….ii) EU – Europe – 27 Globe
……….iii) AS – Asia – Planned
……….iv) AU – Australia – Planned

c) Players Enter All 4 Maps in their Home Globe as an Ally, and Enter All Maps in Other Enemy Globes as an Enemy-Guest

d) Enemy-Guest follows a “Guesting” limit of (1-3) Enemy Globes per week that a player can visit. ANet can adjust this number to reduce or prevent un-fair matches, or during tournaments

e) Top 3 Enemy Globes attacking a player’s Home Globe is diplayed in a Random fashion every time it’s viewed by the Home Team

f) EotM Map implemented without WvW Rewards (i.e. Badges of Honor, WXP, WvW Achievements, Ascended Equipment, etc.)


2) WvW Home Globe Rank based on Weekly Weighted Statistics listed below:

WvW Home Globe Rank is used as a reference point in giving out Weekly, Monthly, and Tournament Rewards.


a) Cumulative Kill & Tick Points earned from All Kills & Claimed Objectives on both Home & Enemy Globes

b) Home Globe’s Active WvW Players Total Count
c) Home Globe’s Outnumbered Buff for Server Total Time Count

d) Weekly X,Y,Z – Code the Map to allow a future variables not implemented


3) Summary List of Major Mechanics & Triggers:

Here’s a few major issues in my opinion that our current WvW World Map Mechanic has:

1) Severe Server Population Stacking which has lead to a Transfer Lockout of Top Tier Home Worlds.

2) Players not being able to play with friends & family that have moved to another Home World from theirs.

3) Bottom Tier Worlds Communities dying off

4) Stale WvW Match-Ups.

5) Off Prime Time Capping

If you’re an active WvW player…be a kind member & get this information chatting in your community.

Let’s hope that ANet also looks at the other Game Modes that have similar mechanisms…and makes similar changes to them to be fair.

Honestly WvW should be merged into just 3 separate sides. For most tiers there is just one dominate server. Evenly merge servers together based on average population sizes making sure to merge good fits ie. server with lots of EU and low NA merge with low EU and high NA etc and go from there.

After merging all Worlds into A, B, and C.

What would you recommend when all players start to migrate to World A because it wins more than World B & C?


Only Solution:

World Transfer Lock Out? ANet currently is doing this.

I think our Base Map Mechanic for WvW needs to be redone in my opinion to provide a better long term solution.


This topic really gets many players upset for good reason…the solution to fixing it won’t be an easy one.

Sadly…it is the WvW Community that will always suffer after these drastic changes are constantly done to redress the Server Stacking.

Server stacking is EXACTLY what’s required to accomplish this and fill coverage across a server.

Side note: there’s nothing wrong with EotM as a mode, it’s very enjoyable for that kind of play.

We might as well do a complete Server Stack.

We currently have a lot of stale match-ups that never change…and people continue to try and get into the strongest World server to have fun winning…rather than loosing. That is the essence of what server stacking does when players are given the choice.

Forcing people to migrate will work temporarily…until they’re allowed choices again…then the scales will once again tip…and once again ANet will be forced to do World Transfer Lock Outs.

Our WvW Server Population Stacking issue will always recur in my opinion.

Current Map Mechanic & Player Behavior is a combination that will forever encourage Server Stacking.

Any drastic change to fix this issue will eventually go back to how we are now.

Sadly…it is the WvW Community that will always suffer after these drastic changes are constantly done to redress the Server Stacking.

I think our Base Map Mechanic for WvW needs to be redone in my opinion to provide a better long term solution.

Any other solutions proposed…will only be a painful & unending cycling of trying to balance population that negatively impacts fragile WvW Communities.

Sorry…I’ll have to say that I wouldn’t support this solution.

I’d rather ask that our Current WvW base Map Mechanic that encourages server stacking get replaced.

All Worlds aren’t able to recruit a more balanced population across all time zones due to server stacking in my opinion.

NA Off Peak PPT Capping is only a symptom of the greater underlying Population Inbalance caused by server stacking.

Small teams that do NA Off Peak PPT capping…in my opinion…often fight against a Dominant World during the NA Peak PPT….and this is their only chance to even up the score…given how our Current Map Mechanic is structured.

It’s a good idea that would only benefit the Dominant World in keeping the Weaker & Less populated Worlds from fielding a small team to fight back in my opinion.


Update:

Replaced “Night” Capping with NA Off Peak PPT & NA Peak PPT terms to be more sensitive to players that play from a different Time Zone.

1) It’s a band-aid solution to solve Night Capping Issue. Prevents small team of players from continuing to score points after the initial capture period.

2) It does change score differentials. Actually negatively. Small team of players won’t earn as much points if this is implemented. Team needs to physically split up & keep objectives active to earn points. This is bad for the small team that is probably fighting against a larger populated world that dominates them during the “day” hours.

3) ANet would need to make the final decision to “waste” time on imlementing. This is merely a suggested solution to the Night Capping Issue…which is systemic of our current Map Mechanic that is encouraging server stacking that leaves lower tiered servers dead.

You’re correct on a lot of things. We both agree on a few things.

Siege Decay Timer does have a purpose though, but that’s another dicussion…which I’m not so inclinded to start up…it will distract away from what this thread is trying to accomplish.

For lower tier matches and non-prime times however we would not only have to capture the objectives but keep them active to gain the score. This idea would end the situation where a small group can cap a dead borderlands and leave to cap another yet still gain points from the empty map. With Active Claiming Circles, to retain the score from a borderlands you would need to leave a small number of players to run between objectives keeping them active. A small defending force has a chance to stop these people so even if they can’t reclaim the objectives they can at least stop them counting towards the score and so can influence the match outcome.

It’s a solution to Night Capping…OP explains it very well in this quote above.

Would it make sense to spawn non-aggressive things to kill in all objectives that don’t help defend…and the objective guards won’t kill.

I agree…population inbalance is the source issue…nightcapping is one of the many symptoms of this…which the current map mechanic can’t be fixed easily. The base map mechanic in my opinion would need to change.

But for a Band-Aid solution…I’d say a thread titled:

WvW-Claiming-circles-a-balanced-solution

has the right idea…

Moving the Weekly Reset Time so folks can enjoy it because there aren’t enough folks on dead worlds…is sadly becoming a fix to the current server stacking trend that creates them.

A kind word to ANet Developers…

The loyal & hardcore player really love WvW

The huge outpouring of emotions…though negative…should tell you that WvW really is that important to us.

Please translate this huge amount of negative emotions…as the opposite.

If the WvW community didn’t care…this thread would have had zero replies.

We’re very upset, but don’t let some things that are being said in anger bring you down on what you’re doing.

ANet & the WvW Community needs to learn how to better communicate with each other…that is apparent. This is very much like a marriage…the road will get bumpy…and sometimes one will say something the other didn’t mean to…and sadly can’t take back.

Just keep in mind that the work you do with WvW is that important to the Community…

If you equate the level of emotions that’s being expressed…that’s how important it means.

Please take that view…

From this hardcore Wvw player…do what you have to do…and let’s work better on our communications skills.

because there are a lot of people i trust in inviting people . but don’t have the right judgement if something bad happens to kick someone . so please separate if possible

Your custom ranks will still be there and will for the most part have the same permissions set. You should check them over post HoT ship to make sure everything is still how you want it and to set the new permissions.

There are two types of new permissions, those that replace old ones and those that are just new.
All the “just new” ones will be unset for existing ranks other than leader.
The ones that replace old ones will be set to whatever the one they are replacing is set to.

Example of replaced permissions:
“Guild Stash Deposit” will no longer exist and instead you will see “Guild Stash – Deposit Items” and “Guild Stash – Deposit Gold”, both the new permissions will be set to whatever “Guild Stash Deposit” was set to.

Example of a new permission:
“Arena Decorator” is just new and will not be set on any of your custom ranks.

Also some permissions went away and where not replaced. An example of this is “Display Guild Emblem”. This permission in practice did nothing at all and so was removed to reduce clutter. You will not see it in any of your custom ranks post HoT.

Give the process sufficient publicity & time for such a “Poll” to take place with a lot of transparency of where the favorable opinion is leaning to?

Also, the process would need to prevent abusive voting…

Hello All,

Launching a game is an enormous undertaking and our teams need time to address any issues that come up. Therefore after launch we must move WvW reset to Saturday. We will keep resets on Saturday to address issues and once we are in the clear we will evaluate the best time for WvW reset both for us as a company as well as for our players.

Since it is clear that we cannot pick a time that will work for everyone, we will be maintaining our original plan of shifting reset by 24 hours, to Saturday evening. That time was based on data for when prime time occurs in each region.

Ye it is, but do u not see what they(Anet) want to accomplish? They want to minimalise reset lags by cutting down number of players at resets. Ye, it is TRUTH

Disagree with you. WvW will get more players…just not experienced…and may get turned off…if the Verteran WvW players aren’t there to coach them into the new game mode.

New Weekly Reset Time has a different Player profile.

It’s kind of like this scenario:

Very Popular Club changes it’s Friday Night Opening to a Saturday Afternoon Opening…

Club owner wants the Larger General Public Population of a City to come in & Experience the Hip-Hop Club Experience that should happen when they change their hours of opening. Club owner should earn more money with more people visiting.

The Hip-Hop people who go to the Club…are not asked in advance.

Solution for the Club goers…

1) Make with the change…and live with the new hours
2) Take up some other interest in the City…Do more PvE, PvP, etc.
3) Move City….Play a different game that meet their hours


Club Owner fails to realize it’s the Hip-Hop Community that makes their club so appealing…and trying to bring it to the General Public to access…to make more money…might not work like they planned to…without the Community.

Club Owner is betting the Community will follow.

1-FRI – Hammer the Weakest Link

Influx of Players get on because it’s the weekend…and reset hasn’t occurred yet. The Weakest World Server gets hammered by this weekend influx crowd.

2-SAT – WvW Reset – Stomp the Weakest Link

Players unfortunate to be on the Weakest World…after Friday’s influx of players…now face a Saturday Stomp.

3-SUN – Roles Defined

800 Pound Gorilla, Chimp, and Weakest Link. Worlds will play off each other to try and avoid being the Weakest Link.

4-MON – Pecking Order

Worlds Falls in Line & continue to play off each other’s role


Only option for Weakest Link World

Stop Fighting for the week & Fall in their Tier Rank.

Based on my observation (NA Tier 6)…this is how the tone of WvW Match-Ups gets created for the week:

1-THR
Throwing a bone – If Dominant World has a Large enough WvW Point Lead…it allows other 2 Worlds to fight for 2nd

2-FRI – Current – WvW Reset
Stomp – Each World seeks to Dominate in their WvW Point score to get a huge lead on other 2 Worlds

3-SAT
Roles Defined – 800 Pound Gorilla, Chimp, and Weakest Link

4-SUN
Musical Chairs – Worlds play off each other & desperately try to switch roles

5-MON
Pecking Order – Worlds Falls in Line & continue to play off each other’s role

Note: If same 3 Worlds fight each other consecutively each week…then each Phase described above is quickly defined and Pecking Order occurs in a shorter amount of time.


New Change in my opinion will change the tone of WvW Match-Ups to:

1-FRI
Hammer the Weakest Link

2-SAT – Suggested – WvW Reset
Stomp the Weakest Link

3-SUN
Roles Defined & Musical Chairs

I agree with you about the current population issues.

Current Base Map Mechanic used in our WvW Alpine Map is flawed in my opinion and causes many of the population issues that’s been discussed here.

I’ll hold judgement on the New HoT WvW Maps until I’ve had a chance to see if the Base Map Mechanic has changed…which is doubtful.

If the Base Map Mechanic hasn’t changed…then the same old issues and proposed Band-Aid solutions will show up in the WvW forums again.

Server stacking is the issue…

I agree…there are low population servers that have a strong WvW communities that make it a badge of honor to continue to fight on against underdog scenarios.

For which…I’d like to proposed the following idea:

…Loyalty Counter – Every (250-500) WvW Ranks earns Bonus Chest. Resets to Zero if WvW Home Globe Changes.


Oh well…the WvW community here can only hope that with HoT…things will change.

I will ask ANet to consider changing the Base Map Mechanic that is the source of a majority of the issues brought up here…one of which…are population issues.

Bad idea in my opinion.

PvP gear setup in my opinion doesn’t provide anything that helps drive demand in the GW2 economy.

PvE & WvW are the major mechanism that drives the in game GW2 economy.

Crafting Armor & Weapons are the Primary Mechanisms that drives demand for materials and gold from the GW2 economy.

If PvP gear is setup in WvW…the overall GW2 economy will be impacted.

ANet will loose a major reason why people buy Gems & Trade for Gold.

Just my opinion, but this would be a bad idea that will have a huge impact to the GW2 economy & to ANet’s ability to generate Real World Dollar Revenues…that I believe subsidizes the existence of the GW2’s pay once…and no Monthly Subscription model.

How would you propose on letting the inhabitants of each World server know that they now need to come in and play on new store hours?

Close all “servers”, create new ones with clear opening hours and have people register to them again.

I’m not proposing removing WvW from players at odd hours but instead empowering them with their own servers and their own matchups selected to be competitive for when they play the game.

How about we change Weekly Reset to every 3 or 8 Hours?

The solution for nightcapping is closing the servers at night. And opening new server regions for those places where the night is at a different time.

See, the current system can match three servers at the extreme part of the populations : you could have a server playing exclusively from 16 to 24, another from 0 to 8 and the last from 8 to 16. The current system would declare those three servers equals yet we’d be having the most boring and uninteresting WvW matchups possible.

Time sliced base WvW with corresponding matchmaking is the solution.

How’s this for a band aid.

When there is low population on a map. The map auto-spawns extra NPC defenders.

When players show up to defend on the map…then these auto-spawned extra NPC defenders de-spawn.

Heck…empty map…fill all objectives with Champions for gate guards.

p.s.
Hope folks know that I’m being sarcastic right? This would turn WvW into PvE. I’m still hoping ANet fixes the base Map Mechanic.

The problem with that IMO is that it would water down WvW to just being a longer sPvP match. As it is now, “winning” may not matter to much but you can still feel the result, the excitement of working toward it. If we had 8 matches everyday, I think so many people would just go “meh this is lost, I’ll afk to the next round”. At least now we dont see that until thursday/friday, heh. This would be a fine hybrid gamemode idea between WvW and sPvP though (say 50vs50vs50 1 hour fights on a map the size of a zone).

Fixing Night Capping issue isn’t possible with the current WvW Map Mechanic being used. We can only offer band aid solutions…that won’t really fix this game mode.

Here’s another band aid we could try…based on what others are suggesting:

Set a Weekly Max Score Cap for All Worlds.

Once a World reaches it…they don’t earn anything.

Then let the other 2 Worlds work on catching up to reach the Weekly Max Score Cap.

It’s going to be where everybody is allowed to finish…and we’re all Winners by the end of the Week.

Still doesn’t fix the Population Imbalance….but this might be workable.

Edit – Rewards in the World that reach their Weekly Max Score Cap…are disabled…so players don’t get rewarded for playing WvW.

I understand what you’re saying. You’re very honest to say you’d move server.

Given the current Map Mechanic…that’s the only thing you can do.

Which really brings us to why you’re posting. It sucks to not be able to enjoy fighting against a server of equal strength at the same time you play. You’re not suggesting that we hog-tie down the other server with a good night cap crew. You’re suggesting we should have match-ups that are fair…where servers of equal strength will play at the same time…and probably have the same night capper strengths.

It’s just that the current system doesn’t allow this type of match-ups.

You can continue this thread on suggestions on what to do to reduce/prevent server match-ups like yours. Hope something will come up that will provide a solution, but I highly doubt it with the current Map Mechanic that is being used. Or, if an amicable solution is found…it’s going to be very complex, or entail more resources than ANet would want to do…i.e. Multiple Time Zones with 1-8 NA based Tiers setup in each Time Zone…then making players move to the appropriate World that is in the correct Time Zone based Tier to play.

You can have multiple NA Tier 1 Worlds for each Time Zone…

Edit – Actually…this won’t work…nvm about this suggestion.
