ANet would you please re-consider allowing Traveler Runes to work with golems like they did on the Old Alpine map?
@Deli
Did you get a chance to read this past post?
@herzeleid
Thank you for your feedback.
Since players first appear in 1 of 3 Colored corners of the Eternal Battle Map in WvW with this proposal.
It’s interesting to see that swapping, mixing, or reducing the number of Borderland maps used is really possible, but I’m not sure if it’s feasible from a programming viewpoint that ANet has to do.
Detailed topic being discussed here:
WvW Alpine or Desert if Base Map Rebooted
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Alpine-or-Desert-if-Base-Map-Rebooted/first#post5799502
Map Channel & Team Channel currently used in WvW can be used as is. Invaders on a Shared Enemy Globe are naturally allied & can use Map or Team Channel.
@runeblade
Changed – Upgrade Objectives Manually Triggers to give purpose & value to Roaming players.
Part III – Expanded Details of Major Mechanics and Triggers Updated from v35 to v36
…Guilds can Claim 1-3 objective per map – ANet can adjust number
…Counter-Weight – Upgrade Despawn with a Decay Timer – ANet can adjust timer
…Upgrade Objectives Mannually Triggered – Borderland maps are Free for Home Team
…Upgrade Objectives Mannually Triggered – Borderlands maps will Cost Gold for Enemy Team
…Upgrade Objectives Mannually Triggered – Eternal Battle map will Cost Gold for Home & Enemy Team

@AnniMira
What you’re asking for is Megaserver & EotM if I’m not mistaken.
You can join this discussion here:
I can’t support an idea that uses Megaserver or System controlled Alliances which is New WvW…that ANet is moving to. You should be very happy if that’s what you were asking about. ANet is moving WvW in that direction & this proposal is not for you.
This proposal & discussion is for all the players who support & believe:
Server/Globe identity encourages a Strong Sense of Community & Hard Fought Rivalries.
The new system being planned that automatically manipulates match-ups on behalf of the players will do this poorly in my opinion.
ANet is missing the enormous opportunity to create the next NFL of eSport.
Server/Globe identity core would allow fans to not only cheer for their Home Team during the Superbowl, but to also play in it themselves.
I prefer Classic WvW that has server/globe based identity at its core.
This proposal in its most simplest form is below. Sorry it’s too complicated.
Please…Reboot the Base Map Mechanic
Players choose 1 Globe to represent.
Old Servers are Transformed into Globes.
Globes are re-named after their Old World Server’s Name.
Each Globe owns 4 maps in WvW.
Players can enter any Globe from a list of all NA and EU Globes.
Players will have a limit on how many globes they can enter per week.
ANet can change in a single setting how many Globes that ALL players can enter per week to prevent un-fair matches, and to stop players from trying to game the system.
Limit can vary from 1-3 Globes.
Home team is shown in random order the Top 3 Enemies attacking them to help them target who to attack.
Please…Reboot the Current Population
All Players are allowed to return to their Old Server transformed into New Globe.
Reboot allows Communities to re-form around Time Zone & Language.
Time Zone & Language helps to Label the Globe Community that forms there.
It helps players choose the right Globe to call Home.
Also, the Globe’s population is annually asked at a Voting Event if they want to change their Time Zone Label.
Time Zone & Language DOES NOT prevent players from joining any Globe.
I don’t get the Globe Concept…please explain:
Currently. When you enter WvW. You enter a World Server based map.
You see 4 Maps.
Server A – Owns Green BL
Server B – Owns Red BL
Server C – Owns Blue BL
Shared – Eternal Battle
New Globe. When you enter WvW. You enter a Globe based map.
Globe A
Server A – Owns Green BL
Server A – Owns Red BL
Server A – Owns Blue BL
Shared – Eternal Battle
Globe B
Server B – Owns Green BL
Server B – Owns Red BL
Server B – Owns Blue BL
Shared – Eternal Battle
Globe C
Server C – Owns Green BL
Server C – Owns Red BL
Server C – Owns Blue BL
Shared – Eternal Battle
Globe D – Z
Not going to repeat the above for each Globe
Players from Globe A
Can always fight in their Home Globe A
Can fight in Enemy Globes B-Z
Player Picks Globe B & fights there
Player Picks Globe M & fights there
Player Picks Globe Z & fights there
Player Picks Globe C, but can’t enter it because they’ve reached the Globe limit of 3.
Player can only fight in Globe B, M, Z for the week until the Globe limit resets the following week.
ANet can increase or decrease this Weekly number of Globes a player can go to. The range is 1-3 Globes per week.
ANet can prevent un-fair match-ups by doing this.
Players are free to pick & choose to fight in any Globe up to the Weekly Globe Limit.
Players can meet up with friends on a Shared Enemy Globe & be Allies fighting together.
Battle is very dynamic. People will not sit in a Globe & wait for attacks.
The Globe based design allows players to pick 1-3 Globes to attack for the week that gets reset weekly.
The Globe based design allows players from 24 NA Globes & 27 EU Globes to move fluidly across all Globes.
The only restriction to being the 1-3 Globe Limit for players. This number that can be adjusted to 1 Globe if necessary by ANet to prevent un-fair matches. Also helps to keep players from gaming the system.
The Best Defense requires Better Offense.
Each Home Globe will be shown in Random Order…the Top 3 Globes attacking them.
A typical strategy to stop Enemies from attacking you…is that you attack them.
New Base Map Mechanic allows your Home Globe to team up with friends in other Globes to beat the snot out of the Enemy attacking your Home Globe.
This is where we will get dynamic Match-Ups which the Old Tier based system doesn’t allow.
The New Map Mechanic was done this way to promote this cycle.
Globes that want to stop fighting can, but they will drop in Rank.
When they stop fighting…the Enemy Globe attacking them will get a new list for their Top 3 Globes attacking them.
Time Zone & Language Options are confusing…please explain:
Keep in mind. Globes are Labeled after a Time Zone. This Time Zone Mechanic is only a Label.
Communities Form around this Label.
Severe Server stacking isn’t such a huge issue as players pick Home Globes based on the Community that Forms around the Time Zone Label that is near them.
Also, there is a Language Option mechanic…it helps properly Label the Community that forms for each Globe.
New Players before choosing a Globe…are shown the Language preference distribution of the population…primary & secondary Languages selected by players for the Globe.
Label Mechanics Do Not prevent players from doing anything in WvW. Time Zone & Language Option only Label a Globe for players to know what they’re choosing for their Home.
Also, Time Zone Label can be changed by the Globe’s Population during an Annual Voting Event in case demographics later change.
Local & International Communities Form around Globes using these Labels.
WvW is 24/7
Battles can fluidly move across All Globes.
Note to developers:
This Reboot of Base Map Mechanic & Population is flexible enough to work with the Old Alpine Map or New Desert Map.

@GROMIT
I’m gonna miss the strong emotional ties that World Servers nurtured too.
I remember many battles where folks would rally for our Home Server…fighting in the name & honor of your Home Server.
We had our Warcry…won’t be sounding it here…out of respect for other Home Servers…who also probably have their own Warcry as you went into battle…but it was really fun to share that kind of camaraderie.
Your’s truly,
Diku
Classic WvW PUG Commander
My tag grows dimmer and flies less often, but I’ll continue to struggle to remember & re-live the Old Classic WvW of yore…for the sake of all my Home World brothers & sisters that will leave me…to find their Classic WvW fix elsewhere…till one day…I too will leave.
If you can…please continue asking ANet in a positive way…that we miss & want our Classic WvW back on the shelves.
If ANet fails that…then as a Classic WvW Consumer…I’ll have to find my fix somewhere else, but in the mean time…keep asking for our Classic WvW.

We have a discussion about Maps that does propose to reduce the number of maps.
Please consider adding your thoughts to the below Topic thread.
WvW Alpine or Desert if Base Map Rebooted
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Alpine-or-Desert-if-Base-Map-Rebooted/first#post5799502
Swapping in, out or mixing maps is possible with this New Base Map Mechanic.
Only ANet would know the answer to how much development this would entail, and if it would be feasible.
Special Thank you for their feedback going to – LetoII & Wolfric
Suggested Combinations or Map Rotations:
1) Three Alpine Borderland Maps + EB / Simple Event / Manual Upgrades
2) Two Borderland Maps + EotM
3) Alpine + reworked EB + Desert / No Laser / No Auto-Upgrade
4) Alpine + reworked 1/2 Desert + reworked EotM
5) Original Alpine borderland with lake + Eternal Battlegrounds
6) Fixed new map (less complex) + EB + Old map without lake no EotM
(edited by Diku.2546)
Updated it to:
6) Fixed new map (less complex) + EB + Old map without lake no EotM
If that’s not correct…just post the exact wording you’d like to see posted.
Fixed new map + EB + Old map without lake no EotM.
And let the server vote on reset day with map they want and the map with most vote is that servers home border. Then you only have 3 maps.
Posted your suggestion as:
6) Fixed new map (less complex) + EB + Old map without lake no EotM
(edited by Diku.2546)
To be honest, I believe a simple merging of servers would suffice in fixing our problems with WvW.. It’ll be rough at first and would probably feel like a hard reset.. but will eventually balance itself out in the ladder. =)
Nonetheless there are a lot of innovative ideas in there and it would be nice to see some good ideas put to use, as long as “everyone finds a place they belong” (ranging from competitive gaming to casual roaming and squirrels) then two thumbs up.

Still having a hard time to swallow the taste of New WvW that uses Megaserver/Alliance & will probably use the New Desert BL.
I miss the taste of Classic WvW.
I can remember the thrill of running from Citadel to save Bay.
Running through Ruins knowing I might get jumped as I race to recapture the southern camps in an effort to stop the flow of supplies being used to fuel the capture of the southern towers.
I think many us are playing in EB because that’s the closest we can get to tasting the Classic WvW we’re so used to.

@Shadow
You’re correct.
Globe SFR players need to defend all their 4 Maps.
Globe SFR players need to attack other Globes that have 4 Maps.
Globe SFR players at the beginning of the week can choose which 1-3 Globes to attack.
The New Map Mechanic keeps track and Globe SFR players can only attack these 1-3 Globes for the whole week.
ANet can adjust the number of Globes SFR players can attack per week to prevent un-fair matches.
The following week SFR players at the beginning of the week have the number of Globes Choices Reset.
SFR players can pick new target Globes or attack the same Globes. It’s up to each player to pick which Globes they want to attack for the week.
@Lord Kuru
Yes, Coca-Cola did the right thing in putting back Classic Coke.
It allowed them to sell 2 products in the end…giving them more market share & taking back a portion of the consumers that liked the sweeter Pepsi.
That’s the reason behind this topic.
I’m keeping it positive in nature to alert ANet about the changes they’re doing is very very similar to the Classic Coke & New Coke case study.
We can only hope that ANet becomes our Coca-Cola on this Classic Coke & New Coke dilemma that we’re having in WvW.
Yours truly,
Diku
Hi everybody,
In my opinion…
Classic WvW is server based & is the Alpine Map.
New WvW is megaserver based & is the Desert BL or EotM Map.
I could be totally wrong…so read at your own risk.
ANet tried to change Classic WvW by adding Desert BL to the formula.
Classic WvW players tried it…and didn’t like the Taste of New WvW.
In Fact…Classic WvW players quit playing Desert BL, or went to play in EBattle Map that tasted more like Classic WvW.
Some players suprisingly liked the taste of New WvW & actually play in Desert BL wondering why nobody else likes the great new taste.
ANet should consider putting back Classic WvW on the shelf & Stocking New WvW in a Beta mode until more players acquire a taste for it.
Then there will be two types of consumers willing to buy this WvW game mode. One that likes Classic WvW & the other that likes New WvW.
If we wait too long…Classic WvW consumers will wander away & may never come back because they’re really looking for their Classic WvW fix, but can’t get it anymore.
In the end…the Classic WvW consumers will find something to replace their craving.
You’ll have to work extra hard to grow the consumers that like your New WvW…which taste really great to them.
This is one way to view your players.
Consumers of Classic WvW & New WvW.
I’d suggest reading up on what Coca-Cola did when faced with a similar dilema.
Think carefully…
Analyze the WvW population statistics, but get in the game & play yourself to see how many players really are playing.
Pick to play in all the Tiers…not just the Top Tier…where it’s expected to be full & exciting.
Statistics might show high number of players going to WvW, but they might be going to visit the Mystic Forge, Craft Vendor, and Trader as a nice stop before going back to PvE…or just doing their Daily then logging off.
I could be totally wrong…and all this comparison is outright crazy.
I’m a huge fan of Classic WvW in case you’re wondering & I play in NA Tier 6…so this post is pretty biased. So read at your own risk.
Yours truly,
Diku
p.s.
Please Reboot the Base Map Mechanic & Population. Please fix the chronic server stacking, population in-balances, not being able to play with friends & family on different servers, and off-peak capping that the current Base Map Mechanic perpetuates.
(edited by Diku.2546)
@Swift
Listed it as a suggested tweak for ANet to finally decide. Just being the messenger.
Personally…I could go for having a Glider in WvW, but it would have to be earned.
I earned my skill in PvE…which was a horrible experience to go through to get it.
Players shouldn’t just get the skill…without having to put in time to earn it.
I’d venture to say players that you have to purchase HoT…much like the Specializations to get & use it.
How many times I’ve wanted to use my HoT Glider skill in the Desert Borderland when I was up high.
Desert Borderland does seem like it was created with Gliders in mind…the sheer height of vertical drops.
I’m sure we’ll have people crying foul on gliders providing too much of a tactical advantage in troop movement. Both offensive surges & defensive retreats.
Then pointing at the fact that ANet did it on purpose to sell HoT if you want to compete fairly in WvW.
I’m still trying to think on how players would use gliders in ways that the developers didn’t intend it to be used in WvW.
Gliders shouldn’t work when in a Golem btw.
No fly zone over areas that players try to super ninja attack an objective.
Deploying siege in places that it’s not supposed to be.
(edited by Diku.2546)
They should remove the big rock in the northen Garrison area. It would make a good place to have fights but as it is now there is just too much walls and chokes to move well. It creates a lot of problems with the targeting system and skills like Blink or Lightning Flash when you never know if these skills will work.
3) Remove the big rock in the Northern Rampart area
Tweak suggestion:
Adjust Air based stairs to automatically help players land at the top of the stairs.

Turning WvW into what many of us were hoping for 3+ years ago is the dream. What WvW ended up being after GW2’s release was very disappointing for most of my guild, they were mainly from DAoC / WarHammer etc. They left this game long before HoT and didn’t come back for the expansion. I didn’t try to make them.
But WvW had it’s charms, and was quite enjoyable at times. The players that stayed adapted and created a pretty good server vs server feel. Especially in the upper tiers. It also attracted casuals, etc. WvW could have been much better but it wasn’t utterly broken. Then HoT came out.
Most of the posters here have a much better grasp of WvW’s mechanics and their problems than I do. Hopefully, the devs take a look at their ideas and give them serious consideration. Not all of them are viable by any means, but it is obvious the devs up until now have not had any better ideas.
.The changes I would like to see are not deep into the mechanics. They will not fix WvW’s basic design issues that need to be addressed. But they are still important and have the benefit of being relatively simple fixes.
1. Increase rewards. Loot is a big incentive to playing most games. In mmo’s it’s almost a requirement. Having loot drop is good way to populate a map even if the design isn’t very good. Casuals care about loot and they make good filler in maps. Besides, many casuals become dedicated WvW players once they get their feet wet.
2. Reduce the PvE requirements to zero, or at least to pre HoT levels. It boggles the mind that someone thought HoT’s fktastic PvE grind requirements for WvW players were a good idea. PvE should be a choice. It’s not fun when it’s forced.
3. Return the guild abilities to small guilds. Don’t force them to redo content they already worked for. Guild Halls are another issue, but gating buffs, etc behind that craptastic grind is truly a game breaker for WvW.
.
WvW needs a lot of work. Work that should have been done 3 years ago.
I support that Diku is requesting changes to see if it helps WvW. But a simple fix in my opinion would be since these new maps are so large, why not add “gliding” into it? Only the borderland maps should have gliding. Look at the terrain and the size of these maps and tell me it wouldn’t promote quicker fights? Glide right into battle… Yes, you’ll need “HoT” to be able to glide. It’s not needed to play, but for gliding purposes it will be needed. It’ll maybe help sales of HoT for those who don’t already have it.

@Sirendor
You’re correct…they’ll appear as Allies to each other on a shared Enemy Globe.
Before you get worked up about a large army showing up at your Home Globe.
Consider the following:
1) There are 24 NA and 27 EU Globes.
2) Each Globe is fighting to be WvW Ranked #1 in their Global Theater of War. There’s 2 Theaters by the way, NA & EU.
3) Each Home Globe is shown in random order the Top 3 Enemies attacking them.
4) Players can only enter 1-3 Globes for the week. Once they pick…that’s the Globe they can visit for the whole week.
5) ANet can change this Globe Limit to 1 if necessary to prevent un-fair matches.
The globe that is too focused on attacking the Ranked #1 server could over-reach their resources & be attacked themselves if they’re not careful.
Another post explains this here:
Thanks for the support.
@Random
Don’t think you saw this post above.
Appreciate your kind words about my effort.
(edited by Diku.2546)
My thoughts,
It’s great to see someone putting in the effort that Anet should be putting in, it’s disheartening that it is a player that is doing Anet’s job and seems to care more then the company itself.
I’ve stated this before in previous posts of yours, it seems over complicated. I’m sure in reality its very simple but the way it’s been presented gives the illusion of complicated. Because of this illusion I think many players are not convinced due to not understanding. I myself have a plethora of question which I will get around to posting when not at work.
I am concerned with the number of Globes/Worlds/Servers which ever people would like to refer to them as. I think part of the problem right now is there are to many servers for the current population, if I’m reading this right you’re proposing we continue with the number of servers and add new mechanics. I would say just get rid of half the servers (or worlds). You said yourself that more can be added or retired if need be so let’s start out smaller and grow instead of starting out large and shrinking.
Worlds can choose 1-3 enemy worlds to fight against per week. This is a bit confusing and here is why. I understand the concept, you choose X number of servers that you can attack, seems simple but, what happens when I want to attack say BG, SoS, ET and Bob over there on my world wants to attack JQ, DB, AR then Frank wants to attack TC, HoD, Mag ? How do you determine what server(s) or world(s) we will be attack ? If anyone can just choose who they want to attack it kind of defeats the purpose of a home world for anything other than having something to defend.
I’m not against your Idea at all I just think there is A lot to it and it needs some solid clarification in certain areas. At this point I would back up your idea and say yes, but I would like to better understand some of what you’re suggesting.
Is the below really too complicated?
New Base Map Mechanic
Players choose 1 Globe to represent.
Servers are changed into Globes.
Globes keep old server’s name.
Each Globe owns all 4 maps in WvW.
Players enter Enemy Globes as Attacker.
Players can Pick from a list of any NA and EU Globes to enter.
Players can enter 1-3 Globes per week.
ANet can change Globe Limit to prevent un-fair matches, or during tournaments.
Home team is shown in random order the Top 3 Enemies attacking them.
Population Reboot
Reboot allows Communities to re-form around Time Zone & Language.
Time Zone & Language helps to label the Globe Community that forms there.
It helps players choose the right Globe to call Home.
Time Zone can be changed by a Globe’s population at an annual Voting Event.
Time Zone & Language DOES NOT prevent players from joining any Globe.
@runeblade
Snip 8<
Need to update the entries concerning Auto-Upgades of Objective. It’s critical for Roamers to assist with this.
Updates will probably be posted later today:
1) Manual Upgrades Protecting your Home Globe should be FREE.
2) Manual Upgrades Expanding into Enemy Globes or EB should Cost Gold. The Cost of Upgrades in Enemy Globes or EB should be considered an INVESTMENT that give Players reasons behind protecting it.
Reminder to self about updating this.
Some explanation on my 0 Point on passive, i mean something like this, a camp is worth the point ”the enemy” gain on it if you cap it without resistance, so Camp have 4 upgrades that you do manually, 1 and 2 is worth 30point 3, 4 worth 50points each, so if you upgraded a camp to max your server will gain 160points, if enemy cap it they will gain 160points and then if 0 upgraded then 0 points for capping it. Then you add points for defending buildings on camp something like 1-4players = 20points 5-9= 60points 10+ players 100 points, with then mean if you cap a fully upgraded Camp with 10+ defender your server gain 260points + all kill points, and if defenders win they gain 100points + kills, they already got the 160points earlier. And here for winning on defender side is when sword go away from the building. Made up some points, if that is good or if it should be higher am not sure.
Continuing discussion on Scoring.
Keep in mind the following has been updated in this sub-topic already.

PPT does have a purpose to keep an element of urgency to scoring, but past a certain point it works to de-moralize the loosing team. How about the following:
…Weekly PPT Cap of 25,000 – 100,000 Points for each Globe. ANet to adjust value to keep runaway scores from happening
Update 3 of 3
Objective capping points sounds really appealing. Rewards players for actually doing something. Keeping it simple to reduce development & coding.
…Per Cap – Objectives captured earn points at flip. Higher points are earned based on the Objective’s Upgrade Tier when flipped. Extremely low points awarded for objectives that have zero upgrades
Scoring Details should be looked at for:
PART III – Expanded Details of Major Mechanics & Triggers v.33
b) World Globe Rank & Scoring
Seeking feedback from WvW Community. Please focus on keeping it simple. Coding things might cause performance bottlenecks.

@Sirendor

First: Anet will never gives you credit
What motivates players: rewards, leaderboards, excitement and other players
If once the player base starts to decay it will hardly stop.
I think wvw should be guild based. Players should represent in wvw a guild for a week and guilds gain war scores on every week depending on players activity. More active players rise the guild on the ladder. There could be 3 ladders for 3 time zones.
Game should dish out guilds every week on reset night depending on activity.

Hi McWolfy,
Sounds like you’d like to expand this topic. I’m setting up this sub-topic thread to continue this discussion in detail here to keep the parent thread on topic about Reboot Base Map Mechanic & Population.
Appreciate your feedback.

@Chemical Rush
Need to implement the below New Base Map Mechanic before free transfer, or it’s just a free server stack.
Free server stack that misses the opportunity to reset the Population into Time Zones & Language options.
Current Tier based system encourages chronic server stacking, stale match-ups, can’t play with friends & family, and off-peak capping.

@Lord Kuru
I think it only related to the Guild Vault Transport Upgrade if it was already un-locked by a Little League Guild.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vault_Transport
Found the article:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/rethinking-guilds/
In the case of other upgrades that are moving to the new system relatively unchanged, such as the guild banners and the guild vault, we’ll be grandfathering access to those upgrades for any guild that unlocked them in the current system. If your guild had obtained the necessary research level and prerequisites to have consumables like banners or Vault Transport unlocked under the current system, you will have them unlocked to craft in the new system.

Is chronic server stacking, population in-balances, I can’t play with friends that are on different servers, and off-peak capping somehow been fixed?
Long term health of WvW is tied to these problems in my opinion.
Or, is severe server stacking happening again?
It’s just that there’s been an exodus of WvW players…so the Top Tier servers have opened up…and people are migrating up again. Must be pretty crowded in Top Tier.
The fire is burning through the bottom building…players are moving upwards. Those that survive the fire on the bottom floors…are kind of left in the ashes. I’ll probably continue to play in these ashes. Still loyal to my server.
chuckles
Next, you’ll find out Top Tier will turn into Stale Match-Ups, but it will still be very crowded for some reason.

Still standing by my opinion about Classic & New Coke.
I prefer Classic Coke.
Hope ANet decides to give the consumer both choices to enjoy…as Coca-Cola finally decided to do in the end & to the relief of many Coke drinkers.
To the rest of the WvW Community…this thread is beginning to look like this to me.

Apologies…I was too busy dancing to kungfu fighting.
On a serious note…you’re totally correct.
Representing a Guild in WvW earns absolutely nothing.
Daily Guild points don’t go up now. If your guild isn’t big enough to get upgrades…you’re nothing.
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
It’s another oversight by ANet.
I mentioned this in another thread about how the Little League baseball teams are kept out of the ball park. Only Minor or Major League baseball teams are allowed to use the ball park facilities.
We can only have wishful thinking that ANet will realize that many of the Little League baseball teams eventually will provide the players to the Minor or Major League teams.
If they continue to do this…the future growth of the sport will be in jeopardy.
