Feedback: Elite Focus trait

Since I think all of you would agree that Elite Focus will be necessary to use Tomes, I think it should be an Adept trait and not a Master trait, so we dont have to spend so many points to get it.

Haha, that’s the kind of thinking that get things moved to Grandmaster tier.

Ready Up: Unrelenting AI-Love needs to end

Pets have been an integral part of MMOs for a very long time. Many players, including myself enjoy them greatly. They have been in the game and promoted since before release. It is not like they magically added them in out of no where after 2 years.

You are free to search out and move to a MMO that has no AI what so ever. Good luck.

Unlike most other MMOs with bigger numbers of minions, GW2 minions always take part in the fight, even if they don’t attack. The clutter the battlefield.

Look at how they want to buff bows on ranger. Well, it will still not work in PvP without piercing arrows. Piercing arrows is no choice it is a requirement… because of AI minions. When a mesmer just keeps spamming clones on a point, it does not matter if you can track the mesmer or not. You might not even want to attack the mesmer. Still the clones just passively sitting there will eat alot of your arrows.

They also eat away damage from AoE thanks to AoE caps.

Err… that’s why you take the high ground as a Longbow Ranger. A ranger on the same plane as you should either be stomping you, coming to stomp you, running away from you, rezzing someone or dieing.

With regards to the topic, You can still CC and condition spirits which you can’t do for turrets on the other hand.

The necro changes in two words

in Necromancer

Dirame.8521

And how can you not love the Rez and Stomp in DS? That’s game changing stuff (for PvP that is).

why do people think that this is a “buff” when you could ALREADY do this in the game now?!!!

these changes have done NOTHING, they don’t change builds, they don’t change the meta, they just shuffle around things to make it seem as though they actually did something. we still have no group utility in PvE and now a significant (33%) reduction is damage with the change to Lichform, we still lack sustain in tPvP given that we have no or excruciatingly limited access to vigor, aegis, stability, invulnerability. WvW is arguably the only place where we may still remain viable for zerg, but with the changes other professions received, Necro roamers are going to be very sad in comparison.

all in all: there was nothing in this announcement at all and if that’s what they come up with when they think of the Necromancer, what hope do we have that they will take our feedback now and understand why it’s needed and then act on it?

so kittening disappointed with the general direction of the game now. it’s as though ANet have bitten off WAAAAY more than they can chew in the live environment. it’s a pity though as i used to think that this game’s potential was limitless, but what’s the point in potential when it’s never realised?

I understand what you’re saying. I like the changes and I think they were needed but they obviously could do better and we can only keep pointing them toward the things that could make the Necro better.

I wouldn’t give the Necro too much sustain though but that’s just me.

How does x2 Shatter Mes Work?

in PvP

Posted by: Dirame.8521

Dirame.8521

- Focus the mesmer.
- Blinds cancel the phantasm spawning so remember that.
-When a mesmer dodges toward you, it means he’s going to shatter on you, so make sure to dodge as well.
- If he shatters away from you, dodge toward the shatters, not away from them so that they shatter whilst you’re mid-dodge.
- Drop AoEs to take out the clones because they do have to spend endurance to spawn more. But when you drop AoEs, make sure you’re also giving the mesmer some pressure. People always freak out and relieve you of pressure when they themselves are dieing.

Hardmode/Vanquishing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dirame.8521

Dirame.8521

Just tossing a random idea here :

Vanquishing is possible as long as the area you are trying to vanquish is instanced (i.e no respawn, no other player interference).

The only places in GW2 that satisfy this criteria are… dungeons!

The idea:
Make sure that at the end of the dungeon, in addition to the reward chest and the daily bonus chest you get a third chest.

This third chest could include badges, xp and maybe coins. The amount of these scales with the percentage of total monsters killed during the run (i.e full reward if you kill 100% of the monsters).

Some dungeons have areas that are designed to be skipped for mobs spawn continuously here. Simply remove them from the total of monsters to kill.

Add on top of this a vanquisher title (vanquish every single path at 100%) and people will start finding something new to do in dungeons rather than skipping 75% of the content.

Limitations:
Requires a rebalance of the reward system (again) to prevent over-inflation.
Requires time to implement.

Definitely sounds like a good plan. Simpler than revamping the entire dungeon.

Could this be simpler? Remember when Southsun had those Magic Find buffs? What if there was just an NPC – Nicholas-style – who moved between zones every day. He gives you a buff with +MF EXP Karma Coin only within the zone.

This would mean lots of people in the open world, though just within the zone of the day. Still, it’d mean you can do some open world content with better rewards.

Petunias the Sylvari Traveler could also give you recipes for crafting precursors! You just have to complete an absurd of collection first though.

I’d have to agree. I believe a far better method would be something like Dry Top, or (as I believe someone above suggested), something like Nicholas the Traveler from GW — the point being to have something he wants that drops from mobs in various locations.

So much this! Please! I know we have geode traders in dry-top, but i loved trading with Nicholas each week. Maybe his great-grandson?

You just know it’s going to be Petunias the Sylvari Traveler with her pet Oakheart named Groot…. wait… there’s a similar character already in GW2…. only it’s an actual player…..

Dirame.8521

The intent of the Renown Heart system was originally to help players find event content. They also provide a decent method for us to give the player some context and awareness of what’s going on in the area. There are probably a few issues in that design which we could discuss. We could also let it suffice to say that hearts do not make the best repeatable content the game has to offer.

On the topic of keeping players engaged with open world content, I think this goal may be for more approachable from a different angle. Consider Dry Top, which has no hearts. Players on that map are participating in events all the time, largely on the premise that each event contributes to both map-level and personal-level goals. This gives me the notion that with a little help at the system level, events can and should be the bulk of repeatable open world content in Tyria.

I’d be very interested in hearing your thoughts on that.

My thoughts are as follows;

Make everything like dry-top. And I’m being serious here.

Dry-top, as you’ve stated has managed to meld personal and group goals together. It’s also managed to make the Merchant important, it has also reduced the need to grind champs for bags (even though you can still do that) and it is just all round a well designed system that would really make players feel like they are working together to achieve a goal.

You’ve done almost everything right with the dry-top event system. Use it everywhere, is my suggestion.

I know it would feel like double-dipping to a lot of the community but, it feels a bit weird to have a Sheathed Sword one moment and then when the Sword is unsheathed the sheath disappears.
I would just like a Belinda’s Sheath backpiece that overlaps with the Greatsword so I can always see the sheath.

Please note that scepter clones only use the first attack in the chain. This is how it always has been, and how it always will be. The clones do not generate more clones. This would be incredibly broken.

Mesmer Poll: Scepter Auto-Attack Torment

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dirame.8521

Dirame.8521

I vote NO because I know how to make it OP and I also know a bunch of people who know what I know.

Also this;

Torment on Scepter 1 was just ridiculous, considering that now Clones will apply it as well. PU; whilst having pretty much no role in PvP due to preponderance on Stealth and poor mobility making it unsuited to the Conquest gametype, is nonetheless one of the most anti-fun builds to fight against with one of the lowest skill floors; and remains one of the top duelists in WvW (if people don’t run away). This Torment change will drop the skill floor to below that of Axe-Mace GS PvE Warrior in mindless self indulgence. Heck, with this change, PU can now auto-chain until a clone is generated, stealth, and go take a nap whilst self-perpetuating clones do all the pressuring. Using any form of active play like Shatters would actually be counterproductive; which speaks to the stupidity of the setup. It’s a stupid change with a negative skill floor; all the while Anet’s design team trumpets wanting to encourage “active play.”

Change "Inscription" trait for glyphs

in Elementalist

Dirame.8521

I would like them to add more to the Glyph system. If they want people to move away from Cantrips, then Glyphs/Signets have to offer something that cantrips don’t.

In addition to buffing the might gained from Inscription, using glyphs should instead of giving you regen in Water, they should heal you for a small amount (the same amount they would if you ran the full duration of regeneration).
I think it could do more for specs that have weapon heal skills like Dagger/Focus.

I really do think they should place it on a phantasm. It’s way more counter-friendly.

The mesmer can increase the health of the Phantasm, or the enemy could AoE down the phantasm.

i also think that staff clones with the buffed Elasticity are gonna be soooo much more devastating than scepter clones with torment.

Great games but I think Apex could have won if they played something more cheesy like the last ToL. I mean , DPS guard is kinda of a troll spec to bring in a tournament.

The players from both teams are very good but a mesmer/ DPS guard cant handle condis , so the comp helpled a little bit.

I wouldn’t called dps guard a troll spec, however the big problem is team fights. Dps med guards are terrible in team fights without the right support. They are great for roaming and 1v1, however team fights they are very vulnerable. For team fights you’re better off just going AH with zerker and shouts. This gives you more sustain, and also more team support.

ERgghh! This has more to do with how they played their classes than what their classes can or can’t handle. How can a team allow 3 of their members to get blown up in the middle of the point by one Phoenix. And there was no focus on the one guy blowing them up in the first place. Half the time, he just waltzed in and zapped someone.

The Mesmer could have done so many maneuvers that quite a few mesmers know how to do but I only saw about 2 portal plays and no awesome blink or Phase Retreat to safety that I could speak of.

You are not in a position to talk about high level PvE if most bosses you fight are walking around more than 20% of the fight. Stop Trying.

What? I don’t even…

Seriously mate, if you want to have a kitten fight with someone, go outside.

As for me, I’m just trying to help bring the right factors to the forefront.

I’m going to assume 14 stacks of torment are on the target at any given time, as this the the amount you can pull off with the specc I’ve put together

The 14 stacks on average last for 8s. For each second, 1 stack does 109 damage when the target isn’t moving.

109 × 14 = 1526 × 8 = 12,208

When the target is moving it does double that amount, so 24,416.
And this is not including might stacks, corruption stacks, or other on the spot damage boosts.

In my mind, that’s pretty substantial for a single condition.

Also, just to clarify, I’m not saying that everyone is going to want condition Mesmers over DPS classes (because frankly that will never happen until anet changes dungeon ai mechanics). I’m just suggesting that this condition on the Scepter is great additional damage since it is rarely stacked by most players.

Tornado: useless in 99% of the situation

Elementalist Ready Up recap

in Elementalist

Dirame.8521

One thing I did miss was the Glyph of elemental storm seems to be overpowered now.

  • This glyph which creates a storm in a location can stack 25 stacks of vulnerability now for each hit on a target that stands inside it.
  • Each different storm gets a different condition, water just seems the most overpowered.

Yeah, think nuking some zergs from above with staff with all the + % dmg traits taken.

And then get destroyed by retal? Also Conjure Weapons already do 2 of the 4 things that the Glyph of Storms does.

2 out of 3 elites neutered. FGS might still be worthwhile for whirl and firestorm., and for the fact that the other 2 elites are really bad, Glyph is only useful for soloing and spawning a tank, Tornado was only useful for upping meteor damage.

Will anyone use tornado after the change? Ever? I really can’t see myself doing it. Maybe on the way to defending or capping a Lord’s room it can push people out so it isn’t challenged. But that’s it.

It could possibly be used for shooting out bursts of lightning because those hit for a good amount of damage. Add sigil of air, fire and the new and improved Lightning Rod and you’ve got yourself a nice little nukage form.

Another thing you haven’t done is taken into consideration a build.

A PvE Torment build can get 105% more duration on torment. On Sept. 9th, Mesmers with 20 points in Domination, Garlic Kale Sautee and Torment runes will be able to get 12seconds of Torment from Maim the disillusioned, 20 seconds from heal, 4 seconds from the first attack on the Scepter chain, 8s on the second attack and the clone will apply 4s as well.

Add quickness to your auto and the number of condis you can stack just rises like yeasted bread.

If you’re talking world bosses they cap out already.

If you mean dungeons, torment does not do “a crapton of damage”. The best case scenario is that you’ll be able to maintain 10 stacks. This is worth less than 10 bleeds.

Nobody will move the boss and sacrifice hb/lava font/ice/meteor showers for your pitiful 10 torment. Nobody will give you time to spawn clones and tick conditions when the boss should be dead in under a minute. Nobody will ever be deluded enough to think that scepter conditions are more valuable to bring than another power spec.

Nobody will welcome a condition scepter mesmer in PvE. Expecting upkeep of less than 10 stacks of torment to make a difference is ridiculous.

So what you’re saying is, the boss won’t move on his own? I mean, we can totally keep a boss immobilized forever right?

And which world boss have you been fighting? No world boss I’ve ever fought is full stacked with torment EVER.

The fact is, torment does more damage than bleeds and it will definitely add to the overall dps of the group. It’s not the end all be all, but it sure helps.

I think Mimic would be funnier as an elite skill that made you look like your enemy.

Mesmer disapointment of GW2 version

This is why I’d love to see a Mesmer set-up that focuses on endurance manipulation. Similar to energy manipulation in GW1. It would be absolutely bonkers, to blow a Thief up based on how much endurance he has.

Will scepter mesmer be even a mildly acceptable PvE condition build? No.

Torment does a crap ton of damage. Being one of the only classes that can stack a large amount of it, it will be more than welcome in PvE.

I think they should put it as a Phantasm created with illusionary counter.

Please no, most people that actually like the scepter like it specifically because of the clone factory feel, that has to stay regardless of any other factor. If they take that away they might as well take the scepter away from the mesmer completely.

You can create clones on the auto so it won’t be removing anything.

Mesmer staff auto-attack is bad enough. Throw this in the mix and it’s just absolutely nuts.

I already have a build that stacks torment and confusion like a boss. This just makes that build as easy as a dive into a pool.

I’m begging Anet to just leave it out. Put the torment elsewhere.

One suggestion would be to have illusionary counter create a Phantasm that casts 3stacks of torment for 5s every 3s.
