As for In-game scenario, tracking would be important due to the “over zealous” natures of the mobility of certain classes. If we wanted to get technical over why a rocket should not be a tracking projectile, then perhaps we should also perhaps consider a great many scenarios we take for granted in GW2. In a world where thieves can vanish in open air for an indistinct amount of time without any technological aid of stealth. Where a warrior can pretty much escape for a huge distance with the aid of a sword skill, (not rocket boots a sword skill !!!) Should we REALLY get into the nitty gritty of “realism”.?
Magic. Thieves use magic. Warriors, it has been confirmed, use magic at an instinctive level.
A better way of looking at this is that engineers are already using things that don’t match the technology level or otherwise defy physics. When was the last time you threw yourself across a gap by firing a blunderbuss at the ground? How many of the firearms in the game look like they’re even breech-loaders, let alone capable of sustaining anywhere near the rate of fire shown in skills like Volley, Unload, and Poison Dart Volley? When were tasers (Static Shot) and explosive pistol-caliber rounds (Explosive Shot) actually invented, and how is an engineer able to get a pistol-caliber round to explode multiple times (Coated Bullets)?
We also have precedent in homing torpedoes underwater, and the fact that turrets of all kinds already have an automated targeting system.
The answer to all of this, most likely, is magic. Engineers don’t use much magic directly themselves, but they do know how to incorporate it into their inventions.
If only that was more apparent. The engineer would be more interesting.
Guild Versus Guild could be added in form of battlegrounds for 10v10 20v20 30v30 40v40 50v50 and so on.
But, this would require design of new maps, with missions (such as take or return the flag) and a big space in the middle for fighting; not to mention design for guilds to challenge each other, and for officer to accept the challenge with selected members from guild.
The idea is easy. The design and programming is the hard part. And in the end the reward will be small because customers will not buy more items (except finishers) from Trading Post just because they have GvG.
I thought keeping a good/growing concurrent userbase is also part of running an MMO.
Building that system would keep players playing for a longer period of time. The GvG scene is doing it’s best to thrive on it’s own. I think Anet should just do them the courtesy and give them a self controlled system like the automated tournaments in GW1.
(edited by Dirame.8521)
Anet launched the game saying there would be no GvG in the game. I think they’re probably looking at it now, but it was well known before launch that would not be part of the game.
I can’t say why that is, but we can theorize that in Guild Wars 1, though there was a hard core population of people into it, most players weren’t. They didn’t want to spend resources designing something up front that most people wouldn’t use, even though some were passionate about it. As I said, that’s just a guess though.
All of which is odd as they also indicated that they wanted GW2 to be an e-sport, something that is poorly supported by the current implementation.
Well, maybe they thought the current implementation would work better, and they’re invested in it so heavily they can’t just walk away. Like everything else it’s a business decision. You think GvG would make it a better esport. It might, it might not. It’s not your money that’s riding on the result, so it’s easy to say they should do it.
But in reality I’m sure they have people working for them who think it’s a good idea and people working for them who don’t. In any event, they did say straight out it wouldn’t be in the game. That’s my point.
But now, of course, that anything is on the table, it could be changing.
I don’t know. When you have a dedicated fanbase and a group of people sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for you to do something great so they can praise you to the ends of the Earth, I think I would take a chance on GvG.
My thought is that if you please your core audience they will bring you the masses.
GW2 had their core at the start but they squandered it and they are squandering their chances of expanding/retaining their current WvW playerbase by not appealing to the GvG cry.
The glass specs help the bunkers defend and then they, too, get the .5 bonus.
Or they get focused and die since, ya know, glass spec is a better target than a bunker and they lose out on points and get mad so they reroll bunker.
Silent shoes is right. Bunker specs are prevalent even now so it wouldn’t really matter.
Fact is, people only used Elixir R for the rez most of the time anyway. Only a few people, like you and me, use it for condi cleanse.
The condi cleanse IS used to rez. If you take away the condi cleanse, it will be worse as a reviving tool, when it’s used to revive. Keeping poison and damaging conditions that slow down the revive directly makes the revive faster and more effective.
You can’t say: ‘Do you want to rez, or do you want to cleanse?’
It’d be more like: ‘Do you want to reduce how well you can rez in order to get a separate, improved cleanse option?’
I’m all for making Elixir C competitive, but not at the expense of Elixir R, when you can really change Elixir C in any other way.
I understand that. But it’s very easy for them to compensate the loss of condition cleanse on Elixir R by boosting the healing effectiveness.
But in what other way could they possibly make Elixir C more competitive?
It seems a lot of Engineers dropped Elixir R after the stun break removal last summer. Most builds are running Gnades/Bombs & Toolkit with either Elixir Gun, Slick Shoes, or Elixir S for a stun break with them all adding some team utility if used correctly under the right circumstances. Then I look at Elixir C – it cures all MY conditions every 40 seconds, and I can toss it (skill shot mind you) for removing 1 condition from my team every 30 seconds.
Seems like you’re afraid that Elixir R would fall even further into the unused pile if they made this change. Fact is, people only used Elixir R for the rez most of the time anyway. Only a few people, like you and me, use it for condi cleanse.
The cooldown of Elixir C is small compared to that of Contemplation of Purity (Guardian full condi clear skill). They need to wait 60s and we just need to wait 40s (with cooldown reduction, that’s only 32s). If they move the function of condi clear from Toss Elixir R to Toss Elixir C, it should also function in a similar way by creating a field that lasts x amount of seconds and cleanses/converts x amount of conditions per second.
We all know that Elixir C is THE most underused elixir in the engineer kitten nal. My idea to get it into the limelight is to split off the function of condition removal overtime from Toss Elixir R and give it to Toss Elixir C. Toss Elixir C will then convert conditions every second for 10 seconds and Elixir R will remain for rezzing.
Right now, there is no better choice for condition removal other than Elixir R for Engineers and it also has the added benefit of rezzing you. Putting the function of Toss Elixir R in Toss Elixir C will give us a choice, do we want to rezz or do we want to cleanse? Elixir C will instantly become the number 1 choice for condition removal whilst Elixir R would be all about revival/survival.
I guess anyone editing anything may not be such a good idea in some cases.
For 1v1s, maybe but in team fights? A 1.25s Rapid Fire on a Thief can be really devastating.
Let’s change that target to things like staff ele who’s hiding way up there~~
Imagine their frustration
Haha! But staff eles could reflect it though.
For 1v1s, maybe but in team fights? A 1.25s Rapid Fire on a Thief can be really devastating.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
There seem to be many unfrandly people here!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Haha! I seriously think you’ve got those two repeatables on a doc somewhere so you can copy paste it.
What makes me mad is the fact that they said that they can change things on the fly without having to take down servers and that they would change and tweak professions little by little “baby steps” whenever necessary.
What they are doing is the exact opposite! 6 months without 1 single tweak or change besides “skill facts” then BAM huge balance patch that completely changes meta.
so much for “baby steps” and “changing things on the fly”.
GJ, keep it up!
They also said that every time something is ready to be added to the game that they would do it!
What they are actually doing is packing every thing up and deliver it all at once in the same patch, with the result of tones of bugs, lag issues, crashes and disconnects…If they had stick to they’re word we wold not have these problems…
Again GJ and keep it up A-net!
What you hope you’d do, sometimes doesn’t end up being what you do. This is why Anet doesn’t talk anymore.
After speaking to the pale tree, I felt like she should’ve been the one to tell us the name of the dragon. If we had gone through all of the Scarlet stuff and not learned the name then the name should’ve come from the Pale Tree.
My original suggestion for a change to this trait was;
“On evade, your next attack does 20% more damage.”
Your comparison with other classes does not work because. Those classes have skills that go on cool down and they have to deal with that. Thief has multiple ways to escape a bad situation. Given, 6s is enough to kill them but their natural escapbility renders those 6s quite a coin toss.
Go play a thief against decently skilled opponents and don’t use stealth, more evades than a stealth build would have, and s/d. Let me know how it works out.
Funny thing is, I’ve kinda done that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uNM0QMhRow
I use stealth in the build but my survivability also comes from teleporting away from people.
Thieves have the tools to survive for 6 seconds of revealed.
The “i must use stealth to survive” mentality exists for a reason, most thief builds require stealth for any survivability. Outside of Sword/dagger evades run out quickly and most other evades don’t allow us to do damage while evading meaning we are probably taking more damage than we are dealing. Any other thief build outside stealth for any length of time means a dead thief, stealth just carries too much of our defense(heals, regen, condition removal, damage mitigation, damage). If you’re going to do a non-stealth thief you might as well pick another class as they will do it better(IE more health, more defenses).
I understand the need for stealth counter-play, but it is going to require a MAJOR re-balancing of the thief class. There are 14 traits that deal with stealth and essentially locking a class out of 14 traits and 3-4 utility/heals even if only 6s is bad balance. Imagine if say a turret engie couldn’t use turrets for 6s, a necro couldn’t use death shroud for 6s, a guardian couldn’t use virtues for 6s, warriors couldn’t use or gain adrenaline for 6s, elementalist can’t switch attunements, etc. It basically breaks the classes since what those classes are balanced around is no longer there part of the fight.
I’m all for nerfing stealth into the ground and rebalancing the class. I always thought it should be a 1s stealth that is basically there just to break target. However if we continue down the path of giving out reveals then that needs counter-balanced by another debuff that effectively has the same impact on other classes. The only reason the ranger one hasn’t been much of an issue is it’s on the currently lackluster rangers. Now with ranger buffs and engineers getting it too this could really damage the class. The three factors up in the air right now are 1. Does anyone else get it 2. Thief nerfs 3. Thief buffs. If the thief is buffed to compensate then it might be fine. If the thief is nerfed it’s going to be bad. If more classes get it then it will definitely be very bad. This is just bad balancing at it’s finest. It might achieve the goal of stopping the thief stealth abuse, but it’s probably going to end up rendering a class “broken”.
Your comparison with other classes does not work because those classes have skills that go on cool down and they have to deal with that. Thief has multiple ways to escape a bad situation. Given, 6s is enough to kill them but their natural escapbility renders those 6s quite a coin toss.

… just give up on strider’s defence. I’m almost sure, you’re going to raise that trait to 50% next balance patch (after the upcoming one) and then it will become too powerful and then you will nerf it back down again which will then make it useless again.
So please, I’m begging you with all the creative ideas you have. Just change the trait.

I am absolutely freaking out over this. How can they do this?
More than a year ago, in a lore discussion thread about Sohothin, i mentioned that Rytlock may be a candidate for Khan-Ur, if he is a descendant. And now it looks as if i may be right. Frankly, i am shocked.
ArenaNet, how can you once more trample onto GW1 lore in this way? How can you?
Pipe down mate. You haven’t even played the story yet and you’re already jumping to conclusions.
I think they should just do us a favour and change KZ to something else. Preferably a trait for symbols that immobs enemies caught in it’s initial cast for 1s.
This is an aspect of the living world I think Anet could do some improvement on. Adjusting the NPCs present to reflect on current events, making them seem like they’re paying attention.
Well… that’s a lot of NPCs.
Every era is the “worst state of balance”. Seriously guys, is it any wonder why the devs take little consideration to many of the things we say?
Currently 2 classes are underpowered , necro and ranger. GW2 has seen many periods with an unviable class such as warrior for the first year or ele for before that last major patch.
And even the build diversity is small. Basicly everyone who can´t stack 25 might or perma procs air/fire is unviable now except for engi maybe. Parrot was op, but atleast it kept the weaker builds in the meta.
Necros are the bane of Eles, put a good necro on an Ele and that Ele couldn’t survive long enough to see the sun. Good Necros can really change the face of the map. DPS necros render the Bunker meta on the obsolete side of life with 1-button!
Rangers have always had problems. Anet seriously needs to get on giving them better traits or just revamp the skills/traits altogether. They said they would but all the new stuff they’ve come up with just isn’t cutting it.
So it really isn’t the meta that’s the problem here mate. Meta is fine, Ranger just needs to function a bit better.

Very good theory. Me likey indeed.
Riot Alice is the next Heir to the throne. Mordremoth took her to unlock the bloodstones.
Did I just blow your minds? Yes I just did.
I don’t think the vision is a vision of how things are but how things could end up being.
If Mordie was to become too powerful, he would totally and utterly consume the world. He is that determined, may be more so than the others. Which is probably the reason he overshadows them at the end.
The vision reminds me of the Scrying pool [http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scrying_Pool] in GW1 and how that showed us possibilities and a bit of what was going to happen or could happen if we did nothing.
Another theory could be that, what we’re seeing is the dream of dreams and at the beginning Mordremoth and the rest of the dragons were just variables or distant threats in the eyes of the pale tree.
The problem is, Mordremoth is becoming a direct threat to the dream of dreams and threatens the Sylvari’s main purpose.
(edited by Dirame.8521)
At the very end of the episode, after the cinematic and your team starts planning their next move, Kasmeer expresses doubt that you would be able to talk directly to the Pale Tree.
Even if you AREN’T sylvari, your character will have already had a direct audience with the Pale Tree. Hell, that audience was expressly about an Elder Dragon. The Pale Tree knows you. She would know why you were calling.
Hell, the question should be, “Why WOULDN’T the Pale Tree talk to you?”
And instead of that assurance, your character kinda shrugs and effectively says that you’ll think of something, like you had never met before and otherwise wouldn’t have any business in The Grove at all.
I suppose it doesn’t necessarily mess up the story (yet), but it is an oddity to me.
I thought the whole “How will you get an audience thing” was about the other leaders of Tyria. Considering the Lion’s Arch leaders didn’t listen to us about Scarlet, it’s easy to see why the NPCs would ask that kind of question.
Also, leaders have to deal with their own problems as well. With the waypoints being affected and vines appearing at weird places, people have to be going ballistic everywhere.
And as a side rant: The funniest thing to me, though, is how they introduced ley lines as being so uncommon and unknown… but yet they exist wherever waypoints are. Wow, they already went and reduced the importance of their new lore just like they did their old lore.
Really… sigh.
I remember them saying leylines exist close to where waypoints are, not exactly directly below them.
I think the thing to remember with the Eternal Alchemy is that it can basically be used as an excuse to explain anything. The Eternal Alchemy is just the working of the world, it isn’t necessarily a theory of creation. So while the game does present as specifically Asuran, I don’t really think it is. The Eternal Alchemy I guess you could sort of compare to the circle of life or something like that, it’s just how things are and work?
But I completely understand hating Anet using Asura as some supremely intelligent beings who have managed to explain away everything else in the world.
What is the point of having humans believe in the gods or the norn believe in the spirits when the Asura can just come along and say ‘lol guys, all of that is just a really really tiny aspect of the all encompassing eternal alchemy, you’re such bookahs’ – it’s a cop out and it is bad storytelling.
Not really. The Asurans are the kind of race that would just walk up to you and explain away all the things you thought you knew.
Varesh was a lunatic just like Scarlet. Scarlet didn’t procure a partnership or Alliance truly either. She just scared the Aetherblades spineless, promised the Flame Legion power, and the dredge more technology, probably just convinced the Nightmare court that she’s tots one of them and she has a plan, and we all know what happened with the Krait.
Scarlet enslaved those races without them realizing it and Varesh probably did the same thing.
My observations:
- Great for fighting anything that occasionally comes at you in melee range.
- Not great for fighting classes that tend to stay away from you in the first place (Rangers, mesmers, necros, Staff Eles etc)
- Great in combo with drop bombs on dodge and Citadel runes or Air runes. Passive damage everywhere!
- A build with this trait will have few defences but would be fun to play nonetheless.
Not me apparently haha. Nobody seems to watch the Mistpedia/ESL games and remember me.
Don’t be sad. At least now people know your name.
Goes without saying but http://s657.photobucket.com/user/mdmundt/media/haters-gonna-hate-2.jpg.html
I don’t like that it requires launching or knocking back enemies to set it off; as a primarily PvE player, I find that most of the enemies where having Quickness would be great are Champions, with the CC-resistance that comes along with being such.
I have no idea what I’d do instead, of course, but this is pretty much why I don’t like it.
The target doesn’t need to be affected by the knock-back to trigger the trait.
“In 1316, a sylvari named Ceara (alias Scarlet Briar) found proof.” Which hints to her time in Prosperity to being 1316. Buuuut… this would put her comment of being 16 cycles old meaning she was born in 1300… sigh all sorts of clusterkitten confusion in lore.
Does the day she arrives at Prosperity have to line up with the day she made the holo recording?
I think the best option would be to replicate the targeting UI where you can see both health bars at once. Question is: will they fit? :P
Can’t it be squeezed down to a nice thin green bar?
If I wanted to win most of my matches, I know exactly what build I’d play. But because I want to have fun, I always play builds that probably won’t always give me wins.
and this has to what with this thread?
He’s right. Skill does play a part in your wins/losses.
If I wanted to win most of my matches, I know exactly what build I’d play. But because I want to have fun, I always play builds that probably won’t always give me wins.
Removing downed state will just make people roll full on tank for fear of dying. No thanks.
It’s just an option that can be ticked mate, it’s not being forced on you.
An option like that would be great for 1v1s. Seeings as in 1v1s downstates aren’t made equal so first person to go down should lose.
Independence Day Weekend. whatcha gonna do?
This got me super excited,
Look at the pictures, left is a sketch found in Scarlet’s Dry Top lab and right is a depiction of the realm of torment from guild wars 1.
The vines we see in Dry Top are also something that happens when the veil between the 2 worlds weakens.
Are you as excited as I am ?
I knew the vines reminded me of the stuff in GW1 but that image comparison you got there is genius mate. Well done.
a game within a game.
gameception.
that would be very nice.
unfortunately, unless they can find a surefire way to monetize it properly, it will not happen.
One word; Minis.
Wow, …… so I was right to a certain extent?
If they do anything for PvP in this patch, that would be a welcome and pleasant surprise.
We have quite a few finishers that represent each of the classes themes.
Guardian Finisher – Sanctified Finisher
Engineer Finisher – Golem Finisher or Explosive Finisher
Necro Finisher – Scarecrow Finisher or they could make a Dhuum finisher (Hmmm!!!)
Ele Finisher – Wizard Lightning finisher
Warrior Finisher – Ascalonian Leader (There’s no real warrior themed finisher other than this one I think)
Ranger Finisher – Toxic offshoot or Cow Finisher
Thief Finisher – [not yet created]
Mesmer Finisher – Spectre Finisher
Isn’t it more likely that the Inquest want to find out how to harness dragon magic in the way that the Zephyrites have done? Considering they’ve failed to do so on multiple occasions?
This is just my theory; the Inquest want to capture the Master of Peace (because who else will have major information on the crystals other than him) and the crystals themselves to make a better functioning reactor that doesn’t malfunction and explode.
Or
It could just be Thieves in Fort Vandal shooting down what they see as an easy target.
Imo, doesn´t exist a viable build for sPvP without longbow. Hambow / A/S – Longbow/ S/S – Longbow. They are viable just because you got longbow.
There are other builds but till now but they are easely countered by good players.
But i would like to be full melee and viable. If anyone got a viable warrior build without longbow post it.
Why? Because people don’t stand outside the burning field and just range people down?
Glint’s Lair was located in a grain of sand. Maybe her child is doing the same, not sure why they would carry that portal to the lair around though.
Apparently, that is a lie.

Anet should really put Courtyard in the hot join or solo q rotation. More of the playerbase would get to test it and will give them more feedback in that case.
The funny thing is, you don’t need Juggernaut to do that.
I’m pretty sure it’s something they are aware of. The question is, when will we see the feature.
