Lightdivinity – Level 80 Bunker Elementalist
Reshaos – Level 80 Power Necromancer
Sorry, but I like auto targetting for all my other skills. So turning off auto targetting for RTL should not be mandatory.
They fixed all the other skills like X skill won’t cast behind the player no more. Why not RTL? Make it so RTL has to have a target selected OR it will try to auto target an enemy IN FRONT of the player, OR don’t allow it to auto target at all. I can live with any of those options.
Lol, it’s weird that this thread just came up. Last night I had the best dungeon party EVER! The party consisted of 2x warriors, a guardian, an elementalist (me), and a necro.
Most of them being new too! We literally cleared path 1, no deaths during the “protect hodgins while he stands there acting like he is doing something”. And cleared the dungeon within 30 minutes. It was completely smooth as butter! No fails. We didn’t skip any bosses at all. So we killed Kholer and the Spider Queen. Both of which went down like a sack of potatoes, much faster than any group I have ever been in.
Honestly, not sure how it all worked together but it was a match made in Heaven to be honest.
All the random pugs that I join I always state:
necro > ranger > ele > everything else.
The necro’s condition damage is just insane. Ranger traps and knock downs are annoying. Elementalist can do some major AOE damage if you stand in their red circles. Why this priority? Necro can drop a lot of fields plus has cc abilities that are a nightmare. Ranger, although single targets, is extremely annoying with their traps and knock downs. Elementalist although they can do really good damage with their AOE’s, you can easily just avoid being in their red circle and watch as they just stand their getting pelted because their skills seem to be long cd’s lol. Everything else isn’t really a threat as it is all about kiting them while kill the above three.
Good luck!
Haha! Same here. Its always nice to see an elementalist in the field once a week :P.
But seriously, I think the only reason people may find elementalist OP is because they have played against them in WvWvW (the only thing elementalist stand out in). Why? AOE’s.
Everything else we are just decent at to be honest.

Btw, bots will never go away. Why? There are more ways to exploit a system than to protect one. So when one method is patched another will be found. When you fight against bots, you’re really playing cat and mouse.
I hate to say it but I am starting to lean towards doing speed runs. And that says a lot coming from me since I would be the one arguing with the person in the party that says “skip”.
You start to think differently once you have done the same dungeon over 20 times though (20 is being generous too).
Yes, having the chest grant some materials would be awesome like 20x Bolts of Wool or something like that. Or 1x octo.
As it stands, I only open the chests once I find a key. And the first thing I do upon opening a chest is to destroy the useless tonics. Lol.
The frequency of 1 shot kills is fine. 3 dodges would cause balance issues, as there are already many ways to gain more dodges such as certain utility skills and vigor.
The bosses themselves, for the most part, do need a lot of work though. And a lot less health. I’m ok with frequent hard hitting attacks, but when it takes 5 minutes to kill a boss following the same pattern over and over, that’s not difficult, just tedious.
I’m not sure if I agree on the dodge/endurance argument, but I agree on your point about the length of time it takes to kill a boss. Maybe instead of lowering their health, throw a couple random attacks the boss does at certain time or health intervals?
To the OP.. yea, AC is hard at first.. the lovers have a trick to them but the rest of the dungeon (at least the trash) can be hard.. it IS a bit odd that a lot of the trash can be harder than the actual boss fights.. but it DOES get easier, Caudecus’s Manor is a lot easier than Ascalonian Catacombs and then Twilight Arbor is more difficult than Caudecus’s Manor but easier than Ascalonian Catacombs etc.. the dungeons are all a mix of difficulty and some bosses have nice mechanics that are a nice break from the pain in the kitten mechanics that other bosses have (last boss in Citadel of Flame or Sorrow’s Embrace). Anyways, point is, don’t judge all dungeons from a few experiences with one specific dungeon ;-)
Wait a second, are you still regarding Story Mode ONLY when you compare dungeons in this post? If so, that is awesome
!
See, I do AC explorer mode every day that I get on. I did it all day last Saturday 7AM to 1AM. Same thing on Sunday. So you can imagine how many times I have done that dungeon.
I did CM explorer path 1 & 2, the HARDEST dungeon I have ever done
. The rifleman have an eagle eye range and can two shot you if you move, but if you don’t move than you’re getting pelted by multiple rifleman at once since the mobs are formed in groups of 20+. Maybe I was just completely clueless at this dungeon, along with my guildies except one person, but CM just sucks. lol.
I agree for the most part. The same gargoyle heads and spiked traps used throughout the dungeon makes sense though. Think about where you’re at. In the Ascalonian Dungeons. Its the same dungeon so it should have similar decor just like a house.
I would understand that point if it were something like CM where sometimes you are in a house, sometimes outside, and sometimes in a cave. The decor their should definitely differ.
I know it was probably a joke but just wanted to explain it anyway lol. It makes sense if you step back outside the game and view it as a place to live or visit like a castle.
So far out of all the dungeons I have played (a whole grand total of 2 including AC lol!), AC has been my favorite. The other dungeon I played was CM which I absolutely dispise. The rifleman in CM have eagle eye sight and can take you down with only a few shots. Others state that they do more damage while you move as if you should just stand there and get pelted by multiple rifleman (because the mobs in CM are in groups of 20, no joke, most of the time).
There is actually a little gem that nobody seems to use to find dungeon groups.
In game while by the dungeon (not sure if you just have to be in map or not), type /lfg. This will place you in a different status altogether. Now people looking for more to join their party just need to hit Y, click Looking For Group tab, viola!
I do have to agree that I think there should be a quest log of some type. For example if a dungeon run has four quests. The first two would grant you 30 tokens. The 2nd two would grant you the last 30 tokens.
This will help prevent people from skipping content.
Currently, I am farming the AC dungeon for tokens. When I join a pug about 50% of the time, they pretty much force you to skip Lutinent Kholer, since “he is not worth it”. I absolutely hate skipping content. The above suggestion would force those to complete that “quest” in order to get their first half of 30 tokens.
Basically, make all boss fights required in order to get the 30 tokens. So for AC path 2, it would be:
1. Spider queen.
2. Kholer.
3. Chains.
4. Ghost Eater.
Skip any of those and only receive 30 tokens. Not 45 but 30.
Could you please explain the DR system as of right now there is a lot of misconception based on various posts by Anet staff spread around the forums.
Some are sayings its a daily DR system now. This means you can only run a path ONCE a day.
The other is there are two ways to be affected.
1st:
If you run a dungeon too quickly, say 20 minutes. If you immediately do another dungeon afterwards = DR hit.
2nd:
If you run a path consecutively, say AC path 1, path 1, etc. The 2nd run will hit the DR limit.
You can however go path 1, path 2, path 1, path 2, etc, and not hit the DR system, as long as you don’t complete the runs too fast.
Please make a final clarification.
Arcane Wave is a combo finisher so it wouldn’t surprise me if you were hit by multiple invisible elementalist at the same time.
Some people may already have a saved instance of that dungeon.
While in that same party, go to another dungeon like CM or TA. Enter whatever mode you were originally going for in the other dungeon. Exit that dungeon. And try going back to the other dungeon again.
@Skyrant
Lol, have you ever been to most games forums? Do you know why they always say “soon” or “in time” when people ask for X or Y? This thread. People like you who take dates very literal.
Now, before someone jumps on me about “every patch is Monday!”, yes I know this lol. But what if the dungeon doesn’t get fixed tonight? What if they didn’t meet that deadline? How will you react? People would be furious.
People do this even when developers give estimates, which no way gurantees anything, nor should this really. As a developer I know sometimes estimates are wrong. GASP! /people look around in horror. And sometimes we don’t meet those deadlines /someone faints in the crowd. Why? Because it may simply be not ready. Which would you prefer? A finished complete and thorough tested fix? Or a bandaid that gets tossed into the build in order to meet your life threatening deadline?
There is a reason why companies are beginning to not be so “transparent” and have “open communication” with its customers….Be above this.
TLDR;
It will get done when it is ready and no sooner.
And this thread right here ladies and gentleman is why developers NEVER give dates or estimates.
But yes, I do agree with everyone that I hope they fix the system soon. Good things come in due time though. Be patient guys
.
@Gray
Yes, the irony! Because that dev stated to post “here” which in that context is THAT thread. Not this one, not a new one, not in a different thread. That thread. Irony
. Reread it.
They also tuned it to 30 because they intended (pointed out by my post, reread) to be 45 minute runs.
@Anastasia
The current state of the game:
- The DR system is treating other unfairly.
- Players are capable of clearing the dungeons faster than their intentions (45 minutes but players clear in 20 minutes). They stated they are actively working to correct this so dungeons last 45 minutes. When they have that in place THEN it will be unplausible for a team to even get to the 15 minute mark, let alone the 20 minute one.
The above is pointed out in my post too.
Lucas Ashrock.8675The “idiots” he’s talking about are who (as much i posted it plently times on various thread, inviting to read ) still don’t want to read dev’s posts, where staff admitted DR system as broken giving unfair rewards, inviting the community to just wait a fix, having fun waiting if someone post the exploit to get 60 tokens per run, regardless of the DR.
Still no, i can keep posting it 100 times more, still you will see this thread (and his 2 replicas) growing of posts with random token rewards, and people whining. Not understanding they are wasting their time and anger on something just cannot be accomplished , because we lack of a fix
Haha
This. This. And so much this! You got my point exactly!
Now, let’s help some other’s really get our point shall we? I will quote an Anet Staff and try to point out the important parts.
Correct. People can speculate about the timing involved and how it works – we will not be divulging this information since it opens the system up to people finding ways around it. While we are confident in the system, we are doubly confident that people are amazing at finding holes in systems and breaking them.
The system is currently bugged, and is treating people unfairly. We’re actively working on it.
See the bolded item? THE SYSTEM IS BUGGED RIGHT NOW! Ok? It is treating people unfairly. But what does this mean oh grand master? This means you can keep posting I got 2 tokens while my guildie in same group gets 60 all you want, all day long, but it won’t change nothing. Why? Because they know it’s bugged, hence the bolded part, AND they are ACTIVELY working to fix it. Ok?
Next item…
Plain and simple this system is a safety net for stopping crazy farming when people find exploits that make each run super fast. We are also addressing those loopholes, but that takes time and new ones might always be discovered. If you and your group do the dungeons without skipping large sections and run different chains this system shoul(bugs aside) never impact you.
Addendum for clarity, super fast means < 30 minutes, and even then you must hit that speed multiple times in a row before you start seeing any impact.
JonPeters.5630:Thank you this is excellent info. We would like dungeons to be legit hard enough to take closer to 45 mins but if we can’t accomplish that goal we can look at the speed clear times from non exploiters and easily adjust the system. The goal is that hardcore farmers don’t even see this thing but only exploiters. We will keep working towards that goal.
Jon
This is a two parter so try to stay with me on this one
. The first quote is explaining that the system is to stop exploiters from fast runs. Now, did he say people who run it efficiently? No. Did he call those who run it efficiently exploiters? No.
Let’s take a look at the second quote there. “We would like dungeons to be legit hard enough to take closer to 45 mins”. Hmmmmmmmm. HMMMMMM. Interesting. lol.
So if the developers intentions were for players to be in the dungeon for 45 minutes than DR kicking in around 15 minutes seems pretty reasonable right? Why? Because there is no way if the system works completely correct, which they are ACTIVELY working towards that goal, than you cannot hit that DR limit without using an exploit! Why? "But the limit is there!!!!! I am totally going to hit it! “I have child hood issues caused by my parents not setting enough boundaries which causes me as an adult to be anxious around such limitations!” So let’s break down that 45 minute run shall we?
Anet’s goal: 45 minute run for the average player!
The “A” teams or pro players: probably going to be around the 30 minute mark, maybe 25 min.
The absolute TOP TEAM: 20 minutes if lucky by nobody dying and landing a bunch of criticals everywhere.
DR limit: roughly 15 minutes is a good assumption of what they will probably go with.
conclusion: nobody, nobody, should be hitting the DR limit without the use of exploits because shedding off 5 minutes off a perfect record set by the very, very, best team isn’t very likely. Look up how hard it is for olympian’s to shed off mere seconds off their times. And this is looking at the very top players. Average players? No contest.
Why am I even posting this? It will just be buried and I bet the next post after mine goes like:
The dungeon’s are messed up! Fix your stuff! Fail! I got 15 tokens first run and 5 tokens second run, while my guildie got 60 tokens on both! Is it treating me unfairly!?!?
Btw, done posting so have fun
.
in Elementalist

…To wear light armor AND have the lowest base hp in the game is just painful…
Hmm, I think you’re on to something there actually.
They wanted to get rid of this “Trinity Mentality” by allowing everyone to essential be their own healer, tank, damage dealer, pretty much to be the jack of all trades.
Well, the problem is classes like Elementalist was the “Damage Dealer” of the Trinity. To counter their amazing damage dealing abilities they would be forced to wear low physical defense armor (light armor) and/or low health. This caused them to be the commonly known as glass cannon.
That’s where the problem lies. Sure, we can deal some good damage like other classes (albeit it takes 5x more key strokes to deal the same damage but the point is in my post is that we can), BUT wearing light armor, virtually no utility skills that could allow for a pet (besides our glyph of elemental which doesn’t last long and has a long cd) to take the damage for us, along with having extremely low toughness and health makes us much more difficult to play.
Fix the above and honestly I will be fine. I am alright with having to push 15 buttons to deal damage. I know others disagree and that’s fine. There is no wrong or right answer. I just prefer to have a challenging class rather than #2, #2, #2, #2 like a boss
.
Btw, what is your build in the video?
I thought you pvp’d extremely well! It is making me want to switch from s/d to d/d lol.
I didn’t play during the beta but I have always heard about the big elementalist nerf in BWE3.
Can anyone list what they nerfed exactly for the elementalist?
Hey GW2 team,
I read a post somewhere that indicated you would be working on SLI after your production release. Do you have any time estimates you’re willing to give out? End of December at least? Or next year? I understand if you aren’t allowed to give our dates as my work doesn’t either (software development for banks).
Also, would you mind giving us an update on how the SLI support is coming? Running into unexpected issues? Taking longer than expected? Almost finished? Looking good? Anything will do
. I am just curious on when I should buy my second graphics card to SLI for this game.
PS. You have definitely made an EXCELLENT product! The initial release went very smoothly too!
So are we suppose to submit a ticket or will they just fix everyones?
There is already a post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bug-Arc-Lightning-Elem-stuck-after-cast-finished
But to help our case (I am a scepter/dagger build too and find this really annoying myself), here is a video of it in action!
Also here is another thread about it on a different forum: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/56751-elementalist-air-attunement-bugs/
It also listed another annoying bug. When you switch to the air attunement it ALWAYS (even if auto-attack off) automatically starts casting Arc of Lightning on mobs.
Hopefully this gets corrected soon because it really is annoying lol.
P.S. Did I mention how annoying this is?
