30/30/10? What do you think.
Nightmare runes? What ammy?
Hypercrushed
oh ok only bads on point cant dodge the 10 AOE abilities that a scepter/dagger/staff/well spamming necro has at his disposal. maybe because theyre on point? and the aoe covers the entire circle? and it’s spammable? >.<
Now you are complaining about two entirely different things. You are simply complaining about a class with some AOE abilities. The AOE nerf will not effect necros, they were talking about eles mostly.
This is about the only thing necros are currently good at, if you take this away from them, they will revolt like crazy, and you will need to revamp most of the class (although this already is in a dire need to be done)…
Necros role is to pressure people, notice he isn’t complaining about getting insta gibbed by necro, simply pressured in a 2v1, which dear lord I hope he is!
Hypercrushed
doesnt matter, wait for nerf. let them enjoy it for a few more weeks.
Necros suck already, lay off. You act like wells actually do damage.
Only bads stay in them, and they last for 5 seconds (with an obscene CD) and hit for maybe 500~ a hit? This is a L2P.
A bunker guardian complaining about this? Are you serious? Only one of the most OP classes ATM has the audacity to QQ about the worst class in the game right now, well at least one of the worst.
Hypercrushed
The build needs a nerf, my main is an ele, who happens to play a much weaker scepter/dagger simply because d/d bunker feels cheesy and for mostly aesthetic reasons as well. So let’s get that “you’re biased against eles” crap out of the way.
I know d/d ele will get nerfed, but I would like to point out that necessarily it is not the weaponset or the spec that needs nerfing (besides excessive condition removal from water traits).
1) Boons are too strong. Stability and protection in particular; when you put stability aoe like the guardian can on extremely high damage dealing classes like the warrior or thief or mesmer, this is basically extreme unavoidable damage. The stability durations are too long and it should not be something you can hand out in AoE. Same goes for Protection, which my ele and other guardians can easily provide for teammates at too high a rate.
Put time warp and aoe stability together, and it’s outright ridiculous.
2)Boons are too accessible and only countered steadily by a necro and to a lesser extent a mesmer. Corrupt Boon and mesmer shatter boon removal cannot compete either with the rate at which guardians and eles renew boons by the bunch.
3)Boon duration stacking runes synergize too well with boon duration traitlines like Arcana
The build you see is the culmination of really poor innate ele survivability. Any builds that don’t heavily invest in Water traits or arcana will be 2/3-shot in the current state of burst by the very fact that the ele starts at 13k hp without heavy investment in defensive traits and gear, and our stun breakers are all in rather high cooldowns, some nearly double of my mesmer’s stunbreaker cooldowns. An ele’s burst delivery, unlike mesmer or warrior or thief is delivered piecemiel via chaining highly telegraphed skills, whereas something like blurred frenzy>shatter or steal>cnd/backstab, frenzy>100b is so much more immediate and cannot be stalled. Simply put, a burst specced ele cannot exist in a meta where other classes can deliver the burst more reliably and shut down the ele by virtue of higher healthpool/defensive utility that can be used offensively on shorter cooldowns (the only defensive utility that can be used offensively as far as I see on the ele is Arcane Shield and Armor of Earth, both of which have >75 sec cd’s, versus Blurred Frenzy and Stealth bursting’s much lesser cooldowns).
You will simply not see any d/d or scepter builds that don’t have points in water or arcana, simply because eles need to exploit the OP state of boons like protection and stability to have any chance at staying active among enemy warriors and thieves and mesmers. Unlike a warrior (or thief or mesmer with high avoidance skills that can be used offensively duch as stealth detargeting or immunities), an ele cannot spec for berserker or power/prec builds. Condition builds are weak in the game unless you can spread aoe conditions ala Epidemic for pressure — condition builds will never compete single target with burst builds’ sustained damage in the current state of the game.
So, before you consider touching actual weaponskills or utilities, you might look to removing boon duration runes or making the rune bonus effects non-stacking (so you can’t use 2 sup water and 2 sup monk and 2 major water in wvw and to a lesser extent something similar in spvp), and touching the defensive boons like protection and stability in how accessible they are to the guardian and elementalist.
You may want to do something like making boon duration traitlines not stack with gear, because the fact is that bunker builds are abusing these features, and guardians/ele the most since they have such ample access to boons that completely put them above the other classes in staying power while losing not so much offense because might stacking is so effective in the same build.
P.S. Find me an ele who isn’t using Mist Form. Not only because you can channel abilities through it, but simpyl because it is the only real defensive ability that buys you time to recover and bide someone’s burst sequence in a way the other stunbreakers cannot. Perhaps you should consider making Arcane Shield another stunbreaker to compete with Mist Form. And once you nerf boon durations and stacking on ele bunkers, look at their base health and stunbreaker cooldowns.
P.S.S. A way to fix mist form to not be so dominant is to shorten the cooldown to 30 seconds but make the mist only last 2 seconds. You should also halve the cooldown of Arcane Shield without any nerfs to it (it never warranted such a high cd), and for Armor of Earth you could bring the cooldown to 35-40 seconds and lessen the duration of stability.
This is a really good post.

people saying l2p need to stfu. here is what Lowell (top player) said when asked if one shotting should be possible and requires skill to pull off in paid tournaments vs other top players:
" I don’t think it should be possible, there is no skill in punching my numpad."
so please stop with the whole its so easy to avoid nonsense
Amen, they are just defending because they want to keep their OP class. Trust me, they will get nerfed into the ground, because after playing other MMOs, the thief or “rogue” is simply good at mostly everything with little to no drawbacks for going glass.

Can anyone link me the standard build? I have seen so many kitten variations of the build, and would like to try this out! Is there a standard build? I assume it is not power/wells right? That is something different entirely…
I really want to get home from work and jump into some necro dots tonight
I only do hotjoin spvp, so if you know of some good builds, lmk
Hypercrushed
I started as a legion. Went with shatter because legion was too ez mode… Learned how to really play a Mesmer. Went back to legion and really just lost burst, but became nearly a god 1v1 because of my new skills.
I agree that phantasm in spvp can be ezmode because you just summon them and kite…but I never fear roaming around..ever. It’s a good class for 1v1, maybe the best actually.
Hypercrushed
To make this sPvP, how it is today, fun you need to:
-Play with a “good” class
-Stick with the team (zergfest)
-Run away from lost battles
-Leave bad teams.
And /dance after kills. Or simply say “tired of the bads”
Hypercrushed
Tried shatter and phantasm, and IMO phantasm/legion for spvp. I currently play legion build. Google taugrim legion build. Shatter is too squishy for hotjoin spvp IMO. You get kitten by rogues, unless you run with a team that coordinates bursts and boons. Also IMO legion is best 1v1 spec for Mesmer period.

Really appreciate the responses! I used to like Mesmer, but they just move too slow now…
Hypercrushed
What is this thief build you guys are talking about? Is there a general name for it besides zomg op face roll
Hypercrushed
Absolutely great responses
Hypercrushed
Could you guys post the names of builds if you give a suggestion so that I can google it? Or maybe a famous player who uses it as well? It helps ALOT.
Seems like everyone is saying go rogue haha. I tried a dual pistol rogue once, wasn’t impressed. What rogue build are you referring to?
Might try this ranger though…
Thanks. Keep them coming!
I don’t want a “team” player…because my teammates usually suck and don’t act like one…therefore countering my build. I need a solo, mobile build.
Hypercrushed
I usually judge what class is best by the points I get at the end of each game.
Eles were nice because of mobility, allowing me to get really high points. Mesmer was because I just nuked people. I do see thieves scoring #1 alot. I may try the condition necro out…
I guess I should ask what character do you think is the best to handle 1v1s while having mobility overall.
I like the idea of the necro, might change him to condition and tag people up. After tasting d/d ele mobility..makes other classes feel slow lol
Thanks for the responses! Keep them coming

Thief is also good.
High mobility: Thieves have tons of teleports/speed buffs meaning you can get from point to point quickly (your objective in hotjoin is to neutralize/cap as many points as possible and not worry about holding)
High damage: Thieves have the highest burst in the game. They can kill most targets in 2-3 seconds which saves time (it can take other professions over 30 seconds to kill someone in a 1v1). It’s extremely important not to get bogged down in fights in hotjoin
High survivability: Stealth/teleports means that thieves can disengage from fights with ease. They are extremely difficult to kill, especially if you don’t have much CC
Grrr….what build are you talking about?

Thanks for the responses! Please keep them coming!

What do you think? I always play with no teamies, and just go into random sPVP games.
I originally was a mesmer, but tried necro( d/d power) warrior(bursty) and ele (d/d burst).
I basically copied QT’s builds for each with great success.
Best scoring games were on ele and mesmer.
I do not like guardians simply because they aren’t that good at burst, and I don’t want to play super defense.
Don’t say thief…I hate them.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I’m not sure why you think 25 might stack is important. There’s no special bonus you get for having max might stacks. The first stack of might is just as beneficial as the last. I guess I’m having trouble following your logic there. DPS is DPS, wherever it comes from.
My disdain for the spite tree is completely lackluster minor traits and really only 1 very good major. My point was that with 30/30 in curses/soul reaping you actually have similar, if not more DPS due to the strong minor traits and 100% uptime on fury. That’s what makes the 5s DS trait such a strong DPS trait.
And I was jumping for joy when you said sigil of rage ICD doesn’t affect sigil of battle so I just tested it again in the mists but unfortunately it does still indeed prevent sigil of battle working
Each might stack increases your dmg, it stacks intensity so 25 might stacks add a large amount of damge for the duration of might. As far as your love for curses its arguable either way I prefer going into spite, if you like curses you have to choose what works best for you (just tried out your 0/30/10/0/30 build and the damage seems less honestly. I couldn’t get a Necrotic Slash hit much higher than 2k on a light golem where before it was in the 2300-2700 range).
Yes, my bad about the sigil you are right they do share a cooldown I wasn’t aware of. I will have to change my staff sigil.
What are you changing to?
Hypercrushed
First day on necro and this is a cool build I used to main mesmer, but am switching over.
Never knew how cool staff was. I tried a condition build before with staff and s/d and it was ok. Really enjoying this… Lich form is also crazy…
