You simply got lucky with the same ‘winning’ team due to the lack players. Warriors are sure OP in term of mace & hammer burst skills but stop portraying them as ‘unbeatable gods, the most OP class in gw2 history.’ It only shows you’re a whiny bad yourself.

Honestly, as another person what runs a P/P Thief, I personally was hoping for some form of actual mobility added to that weapon-spread. Seriously, how stylish would it look to pull off some Gun-kata ingame?
As for Divinity, do you honestly think a Thief’s stupid for picking Pistol? That’s just funny. If anything, I have pure respect for a succesful Gun-thief. Hell, I know what they’ve got to pull off to secure wins.
Now, from the Mesmer perspective. Pistol Thieves, Bow Rangers, hell … any projectile freak’s why I tend to roll heavy on Reflects. Go on, shoot me.
I have respect for any thief that goes p/x, it is bold and for not for the faint of heart.
To be honest, the only viable thief builds are currently s/x and maybe d/p, although even this is fading out since it is quite gimmicky. Most high tier tpvp stopped running d/p, less Caed?
I will give props to p/x in tpvp, but in anything else, it doesn’t really matter (hotjoin/yoloq).
Also my friend, I want p/p to become viable so much! It is my favorite build. Who doesn’t love bursting down cloth/medium armor in a matter of seconds like WTF JUST HAPPENED?! Shame it only works in hotjoin/yoloq. But that doesn’t really count hehe

Hi guys, I recently turned engi main, and wanted to know why people think this class sucked and had low play % numbers.
This class freaking rocks, and is secretly OP imo. LOL
Loving this! I used to main mesmer, but this class has so many different answers to situations with kits and the like, it is just AWESOME.
And it also seems like I am not tied to a certain build to be effective. I LOVE THIS CLASS!!!

There are no problems with the info that is given.
The class is a 10 in all areas, there is no drawback to playing. It is undoubtedly the most overpowered class in the game right now, and quite possibly since this game has started.
To try and refute this is futile, and shows lack of understanding regarding PVP.

Static Discharge Rifles are legit single target damage. I’m assuming you are more interested in PvP/WvW since this is a Teldo build. The drawbacks that keep me from using it:
- The utilities that some SD builds take can be sub-par at times – draining utility & active defenses. Utility Goggles, Personal Battering Ram, Rifle Turret, I’m lookin’ at you.
- Glass Engie needs to be played very defensively. Static Discharge (SD) builds obviously have decent max range, but require some pretty offensive positioning to do the real damage with Blunderbus & Jump Shot.
- Teamfight performance isn’t stellar. Not only are you constantly worried about your survival, your cleave damage isn’t super punishing & intimidating like Grenade showers are.
- Personally, I find Engineer boring and auto attack-dependent without 2 kits. Nearly unplayable, for me – unless I have a turret to micromanage. But like I said, that’s a personal preference.
Some things you could do to improve on your SD build that I notice:
- Try out taking Rifle Turret over the Personal Battering Ram. It will give you much more SD trait procs, and surprise shot is much easier to hit, and just way more damaging. I would even rather have the ability to drop a turret then the stanky effect the Ram has when you activate it, too.. phew. I would give up the Utility Goggles to run Elixir S on my SD builds. The invisibility on demand and invuln is going to make you a lot harder to take down. You do give up an SD trait proc. I think it’s worth it. I would almost be tempted to take Healing Turret over Medkit, for actual condition removal – being 100% unable to remove immobilize outside of Overcharged Shot is really a problem now that everything stacks in duration. However, that would leave you without fury, and a bit of a waste of the 30pts invested in tools.

I like offense! Although teldo’s node defender build was pretty cool too. Was tanky condi and a really solid all around build IMO.
I know you are one of the best engis in game, and was hoping you could share some light on a good nades build, and how you stack 25 might so easy. I never understood how to do that when I tried a HGH build a month ago

Why don’t you give us more info, like your build, skills you saw on the thief, and a larger view of the damage log. Just showing us two numbera isn’t particularly helpful unless you made this thread to complain rather than to get an answer.

Not only do I have ranged pressue, but the burst is INSANE. Glassy yes, but INSANE. I really like this over mesmer, due to perm swiftness, and using a rifle and hearing that shell hit the ground (sorry I am in the Army)
This build can seriously put out some SICK dps. Very fun.

Anyways, what bothers me the most about this i the low CD of it, a stun breaker usually is on 40-70 secs CD, yet a hammer AoE stun is on a 7 seconds CD, AoE, STUN, GIANT AOE, with insane damage to top it off,.
This is the main problem. It is just flat out ridiculous. I will probably roll one when I get home to see what the fuss is about.

I was using my P/D thief main in WvW this weekend and noticed I’m having a much easier time against mesmers. I’m attributing it to the immobilize/vulnerability on the tweaked Body Shot (pistol #2). It seems to me that laying 2 conditions on top of my bleed stack, with one being immobilize, is fairly lethal.
Are you guys seeing this from your side of the matchup?
The only rough time I had of it in a 1v1 involved the mesmer popping a very hilariously timed Mirror. Most of the time, the Body Shot spam (1.75 sec immob) got people to tear through their condition clears, and that was that.
Why are people bragging about P #2?
It requires 4 initiative per shot, and it lasts for 1 second. I am more than happy for you to blow through all of your int, because then you are dead.
I simply pop decoy if you are brazen enough to come at me while immobd, or staff 2 or blink away. I could blurred frenzy, or shatter my clones for a few seconds of invuln. Hell I could even arcane thievery it back to you lol.
I would LOVE for you to do this to me all day, because this only makes your death that much quicker.
Again, not really a game changer, it only hurts thieves who are stupid enough to go P mainhand.

With Berserker gear a Warrior regenerates at 407hp a second with a Healing Signet.
407. Every second.
4070 every 10 seconds.
24420 a minute…For other Professions to achieve levels of healing like that they would need to equip Cleric’s Amulets.
“Just burst them down” people say.
But the Warrior comes with heavy armour, the highest base hp, 2 ways to access Endure Pain, 8s of condition immunity, 3s of Shield Block, 2 ways to get 8s of Stability plus Leaps, Whirls and Charges to use as disengage tools.
It’s too much for one build to have everything with this sort of completely thoughtless yet powerful passive healing.
Healing Signet needs to be nerfed so that it can remain effective for those who want to focus some stats and traits into survivability (like other Professions have to) but become balanced against other professions with Berserker gear.
So Healing Signet needs its base healing drastically reduced and then it needs to have better scaling with Healing Power. More like base 250 per second.
So if someone chooses to run Valkyrie, Settler’s or Cleric’s Amulet they will get good healing.
But someone in Berserker gear will not get Cleric bunker healing levels while playing a ‘glass cannon’.Mending and Healing Surge should provide better healing than Healing Signet because they are skills you actually have to think about using, skills that can be interrupted by opponents.
GW2 has been moving towards more and more passive play in the last several months, passive skills should be the least effective options as they require no thought to use.

This should be all that is needed to get nerfed. That’s 4070 HP every ten seconds that doesn’t require any thought whatsoever. You can’t interrupt it and there is no counter play. This is disgusting.
Combine this with the other parts on a warrior, I mean really, what is the drawback? There are none.

1 extra bleed every 5 seconds if you have a lot of precision(2 sec cd and 60% to apply a bleed if you crit)
or 3 bleed stacks aoe on 10 second cooldown
There is also toughness gear that gives both prec and condi damage while the quivalent in power would be valkyrie wich is less than half as optimal in comparison dps wise.
So please let’s keep things real.
We are keeping real. As a Conditionbuild you cant maximize your damage without precision, without condition damage, without condition duration, without traits and without sigils and runes. Thats the same as going on full berserker gear.
Saying that condition builds only need condition damage is same as saying “direct damage builds only need power for max damage”
@Divinity: I did the math in my third post, without crit and traits etc. its only 780damage per attack, I cant see, where this is melting someones face compared to direct damage with 4k+ per attack.
I don’t trust anyone’s math, but what I am trying to say is that too many classes have access to condi builds that shouldn’t. The way they are applied is too easy, there is no risk involved really. Do you know how hard it is to play a shatter mesmer compared to a blackwater mesmer?
Shatter = glass power/prec/crit
Blackwater = toughness/condi damage
It creates the risk/reward paradox where there is little reward for being so glassy, yet ALL the risk. Necros for example have no real downside stacking toughness/condi yet all the world to gain for little risk, ALL reward.
this is a mechanic issue, and deeply rooted into the game at this point which is scary, because they either have to do a game breaking change to classes, or the easier route, and nerf conditions into oblivion, and only give necros or something like that new traits to make them feasible again.

I played yoloq for about a week before quitting, and the people who brag about being on the leaderboards are rediculous, because they don’t mean anything actually related to skill.
But most rated games are like this, especially in WoW, times you queued, win trading, things like that. Time and a broken system pretty much make the best go against scrubs, the decay system is terrible etc.

If i dropped all my Power, i’d be dealing even less direct damage. And precision is even more important, because i proc conditions on crits.
I very much need Precision for my dps. And i mix in some power with defensive stats to trade off not being to squishy, while still being able to get a decent hit in with some abilities, that wont be cleansed 3seconds later.

A necromancer does not need crit to inflict DPS, even without his burning trait, he will melt your face off.
If all a mesmer had was precision, what would happen? You would crit your 1 damage into 2?
Meanwhile if a necro has a ton of condition damage, he melts your face off.

A necro for example has to stack 1 thing, every other class in the game has to stack 3.
CONDIS can’t crit, another variable must crit to create the supposed effects you are speaking of, I am talking about a core mechanic not something related to it. You need to fix the ROOT of the problem.
Not to mention…to be honest? CONDIS should really only be on 1-2 classes in this game, not every one. They are too easily accessible, spammable, and have a low skill floor. This is going to be a very hard fix, and will most likely cause huge uproar.

There are tons of problems with the meta the way it is now. I agree that conditions are one of the problems, but stun locks and immob locks are just as problematic. Things that have no counter are not fun to play against, however, as a Mesmer you should at least be in a good position to beat up on Warriors that are everywhere at the moment and avoid immob locks reasonably well (Staff and MH sword both go a long way to mitigate that tactic).
The bottom line is that there need to be pretty major changes in a number of areas to break the game out of its current unfun state, and while conditions are part of the problem it is not really fair to single them out as the only issue.
Never said I hated eating warriors I love the way the meta is changing lol.

The only differense is, they get condition duration with runes and not with armor stats, which could be a balance issue, but they also need survivability, to see the effect of their conditions.
They dont do more damage, maybe against players with 3k+ armor or if you compare their damage with bunker builds.
And dont try to tell me, that you can dodge direct damage, but you cant dodge condition damage, that is not true. Learn how condition work and you will see, they are fine.

Conditions are a form of damage, they are applied like direct damage, but instead of dealing one huge hit it is divided into several smaller ones. (DoT) They have to advantage to ignore armor, but they can be dodged, blocked, missed, … like direct damage and additionally be cleansed. In average they deal less damage then direct damage builds, but with the current bunker meta, they appear strong.
There has nothing to be fixed, just think about them as direct damage with a delay.

The only high lvl pvp experience I have is from WoW S1/S2 when UA warlocks were actually good, but the main focus of the class was DoT spells.
I just realized that this game basically gives EVERY class access to DoTs that were really only designed for 1 or 2 classes back in WoW.
How do we change this blunder? Because if they reduced DoTs to like Rangers and Necros, then the other half of the game loses like 50% of its builds lol. What do you think the proper fix for this is?
Because if you give everyone access to DoT removal, then it becomes hit or miss like “did I bring CONDI removal this game or not, if not I will die to this necro, if I did, then it will help me much more”
I feel like it is really hard to fix this without literally changing the way PVP is.

Main mesmer changes (from memory anyway, apologies if I miss anything):
- Illusionary Celerity is now a grandmaster trait, so builds that didn’t have 25 in illusions have been hit, mainly in terms of utility. This was quite a big change.
- Blurred Frenzy has an extra 2 seconds CD and is a dodge, not invunerable. (retal triggers so you can take a lot of damage from that, also ele lightning shield now interrupts blurred)
- Focus pull (4) now has a short time delay between the placement and the pull.
- Traited iDuelist is no longer a 100% combo finisher.
- A few new traits added for interupts. Halting strike does more damage.
- Prismatic Understanding (chaos 30 stealth trait) applies one boon per second.
- Scepter block now applies 5 stacks of torment (new condi, 75% of a bleed tick, does double damage while target moves) and the block damage was reduced to compensate.
- Chaos armor from staff 4 now longer auto applies protection. Chaos armor now works as intended and correctly applies all the boons/condis, with a 1s icd.
- Few bugfixes, still many annoying bugs though.Necro’s were dominant for a while due to a burn proc trait which was slighly toned down in pvp only, but the condi spam is still tedious to deal with on a mesmer. Mesmers were used less as a result, for example no mesmers in PAX finals, only 1 (Helseth) in MLG. Warriors sustain overbuffed and now have crazy passive regen as well as the usual mobility, mesmers counter them well atleast.
There were 2 mesmers in the last MLG tourney.

A good PU mesmer won’t die to a warrior ever. Best thing for you to do is hotkey “call target” to stay on the right mesmer, because there will at least 3 clones 99% of the time.
This is normally how you beat mesmers in general, but due to stealth mechanics in this game, when someone stealths, you lose the big cross eye on top of their heads, which for PU builds happens way to much to consistently find the real one. Smarter mesmers will move like their clones, and just let you attack the wrong ones waiting for cooldowns to pop, then dodge roll into a stealth and start the process all over again with 100% hp.
It is our cheese build, but don’t get me wrong, offensively? We can barely damage you. A 5 stack of torment usually seals the deal though, the damage is insane.
The fact that scepter just got buffed via reduced cooldowns on the torment block and confusion does not help this matter lol.
I personally main mesmer, and play shatter because I like more offensive/adaptive gameplay.

I feel like the devs are really listening to what people on the forums say but the big problem with this is that there are 90% or people that know little or nothing about pvp, 6 % people that have a decent knowledge and then 4% that are top tier pvp players
The problem i want to adress is that most of the time you see suggestions from the 90% and the other 10% can’t really say something against it since the mass of players kinda rules how the game developes..
To my mind it would be important to listen to the 4% (or the 10%) because then we might see good changes that 90% of the people wont understand at first but those changes would be much better for the game than the changes the 90% suggest…I really liked some of the changes in the last patches but we are still missing a lot of things that can be implemented really easily because they are not that big
I play with a lot of the 10 % players and then we end up talking about the game between the matches and i hear so many great ideas …

There are two builds I have used on mesmer where I don’t really fear going against anyone, this includes a necromancer.
Phantasm or PU(Blackwater 20/20/30).
IMO these are the only builds for hotjoin and yoloQ, a sh@tter is just too glassy nowadays unless using coordinated bursts/peels/cc which of course happens all the time in soloq LOL.
