40 is a good place to start, if you want to equate time invested, the requirement would be much less than 40. MUCH less.

Please lower where they enter matches…you understand a lvl 1 more than likely will make you lose. It was sad that I had to literally have him follow me the whole game where I said, just attack the big red target I put on people….

Makes no sense… I kinda hope titles aren’t given as a reward to the leaderboard. These guys would then be rewarded for going on a very short win streak and not playing for a while. It doesn’t represent skill or dedication. At least the QP titles given were based on total QP and that shows experience.

First of all, this was a pretty big change to the way that Solo q and Team q work, and I’d be interested to know in what parts of PvP this has been implemented, for now I’m going to presume its across the board.

Hotjoins: I feel like this just clusters the map in an 8v8 and makes it very hard to see where you can actually make an impact, in 5v5 its mostly fine and makes sense for new players to see that kind of thing.

Soloq: This has the potential to be a massive bonus by breaking down the barriers posed by limited communication to open up the possibility of better play, here to me it makes perfect sense.

Teamq: At this level, I feel like its too much pandering to the game. Communication of who and what is where is a crucial part of the team arena, and if I for instance know that the thief is at far point, I’ll quite happily come to mid as the homepoint bunker. The thief himself might be being cautious and my team mate might not even have noticed him at this point, I feel its reduced the skillcap in this area of play.

Now for my gripe: I went into my first Solo queue game since the patch and I was rushing far on Forest. I looked to see what was happening across the rest of the map, and I couldnt tell at all what was happening on mid. Considering I had 2 people with me on far, I swore I could see at least 5 people at mid, which really confused me. Turns out that mesmer illusions showed up on my map as separate entities, hence me thinking there were about 4 on their team when in fact it was only one.

I’m not sure if this is working as intended, but if so it clouds and already hectic UI tool that you no longer even can zoom in to reduce the clutter, making it much harder to discern where the enemy are, but more importantly where your team mates are if they are fighting across all points.

I feel it was in a better place when you knew exactly where your team mates were personally, than this confusion, but it would be good to get some feedback on this!

Have not played since patch, are you saying there are CLASS ICONS on the mini map telling where everyone is now? No more sneaks on the creatures etc.?

I spoke to azh, and he is mature. Consider my previous posts null, he doesn’t talk about his rank, so I respect that.

Care to enlighten me how I did any of those things? I used the term and/or, and everyone knows you are dodging everyone else on the ladder by not playing Don’t call people out based on your assumptions, I simply played normally for the purpose of getting rank 1, which I got by going on a winstreak against good players early on can you really prove these were good players?, and have since then lost interest in playing the PvP side of the game.
The only reason I play every now and then is as a testament to the broken nature of the decay of the system, which is hopefully a more powerful statement than any verbal argument I could make. you just admitted to what I just said about abusing the system, with lack of decay, and you getting a win steak which we don’t know how you got, you are abusing a broken system

You are not the only person who abuses the system, and this is not a “season” where you get to a rank and stop playing, by virtue of you not playing like you say you did, you should have been kicked off the ladder, but like you admit to saying, it is a broken system.

Normally I wouldn’t care because nobody actually cares about rank on SoloQ. You are part of a great team, but please don’t act all righteous and say you legitimately got there in a broken system. You admit the system is broken! Please don’t try to counter argue, because it is simply he said she said. Other top players know exactly what you did, so please don’t try to hide this in such a microcosm of a community.

Show me rank #1 with some actual game played, and then maybe I might have an ounce more of what little respect I have for SOLOQ boards right now.

Arenanet dont give out Rewards for kittens. The Matchmaking and Leaderboards are broken so why should anyone get a Reward climbing up a broken Leaderboard and with a broken Matchmaking?

and still Team Arena is more like Random vs Premade , its very easy to get Top 100 in Team Arena for exsample by just farming randoms , since you can sign up Team Arena alone or with 2er or 3er or 4er Group. Team Arena Sign up should be only available for 5er Groups so its only Premade vs Premade for the sake of Competition.

There are a few legit players, like Lux, but you will climb to the top again, no worries. If you think you should be rewarded, then you also must ALL agree that anyone who farmed skyhammer points should also get to keep his points, and all entitlements as well.

Because the logic you are all stating is that regardless of how broken the system was, you want to be rewarded for time spent in it. Just like all the skyhammer farmers, who played in a broken system, are keeping their glory. For pride purposes, I would rather not be known for getting a title in a season most people have simply written off due to it being such a complete, utter failure.

It is also like saying, hey I got a 1600 on my SAT score, but then the org saying the test was wrong. “But I sat to take the test and spent time filling out the questions.”

But the test was broken, and you still want to keep your 1600? What college in the world is going to allow that specific test # to be accepted as a possible SAT score during admissions…I can tell you! Zero.

I understand the desire to be recognized for doing well, but I don’t think Anet can do this. Remember the outcry over people farming glory in skyhammer? Over…undeserved glory points? Glory points! Everyone agreed that the ranks/glory meant nothing and some even suggested that spending 8 hours a day farming for it was a colossal waste of time. But that didn’t matter, dern it—it wasn’t fair. People were getting something they didn’t earn.

Right now, people harbor an intense hatred toward players who don’t play often and are at the top of the boards. Even people who have no legitimate shot at making it to the top spot (or even the top 100 spots) feel cheated because someone is getting better than they deserve.

For the sake of this community, which has shown its willingness to rip itself to shreds for nearly any reason, Anet should not do this.

The reason that 14-1 was good enough to stay at the #1 spot for so long is that those 14 victories were against other opponents with ridiculously high MMRs (i.e., they synced a dozen matches and won most of them). Then Azshene won a few matches against the people with inflated MMRs and of course his rating went through the roof. Eventually, it was impossible to catch him because no one you could beat would give enough rating increase to get close to him.

The entire problem may be avoided with this reset. It may still pop up, and they can choose what to do with decay then. Note that harsh decay can create bad matchmaking, since any player who has experienced decay will be queueing at a level that doesn’t reflect his actual skill level. In some cases, the effect on matchmaking can be severe. For example, let’s say five frequent players in the 500-600 area of the leaderboard queue against three players between 500-600 and two top 100 players who haven’t played for a couple weeks. Who will win?

And then you have posts like this. Nobody respects the supposed “top players” in this system, because most of them cheated or abused the system to their favor, they should not be rewarded for a TERRIBLY broken system. Hell the old QP system was much better than this. Let’s not reward the abusers in this game. Most of the top players are just like Azh and are good no doubt.

I love waiting 10+ minutes for a match, just to forget and screw over someone giving them a potential 4v5. Then seeing a nice shiny second place tourney award in the bottom right hand corner.

Not only do I know I screwed someone over, but I now have to wait another 10+ minutes for a match.

Time wasted ? 20 minutes. Time available to pvp each day? About 30-45 minutes. Ty for destroying my only feasible time.

am I the only one that thinks a PvP mode should involve killing players and should matter more than standing on a point?

Great responses guys. But in the last few days, I actually feel like I am hitting a skill cap on my mesmer. Back when I played wow compettitvely in S2 when players still needed skill to get titles, the skill cap on all classes were very high.

I think it just hit me that this game is really almost like an arcade game, where I only hit a few buttons to win. Utilities were supposed to bring spice to meta builds, where a well timed portal could save the team! But most builds really are brain dead…I play shatter zerker btw (IMO the highest skill cap for memser). I used to play phantasm or blackwater, but literally got stupid as the builds could faceroll to victory. I find myself not switching out of shatter, because it is the only thing that even remotely keeps the game harder, because you can get ganked if you make a mistake, and that keeps it slightly interesting.

It just isn’t that fun anymore, and the one game mode we have is a joke! It is the equivalent of playing alterac valley competitively for over a year, and calling it esports.

I have tried gs/staff but regular shatter, and found it to be really effective. You mentioned the torch to help you re-position against thieves and stuff, but I find staff/gs to actually be a really great combo at the moment.

Honestly, to have devs talking about the OCT 15 balance patch, I think even they can admit it was a little too hyped up

I know you guys love this game, and I did too! I am just so bored though. To be honest, it isn’t the class balancing I care about, it is just basic pvp features.

Your shaving techniques are good, but sometimes larger change is needed.

I don’t even care that most of the high rated players abused the mechanics of the system to be where they are!

I never got to hold a legendary! I am almost rank 40, and have put in way more time than it would have taken to get in PvE. I’ve wanted to see that twilight GS glimmer as I rain purple death on my foes <3

I feel like PvE got 100% of a game, and we got a mini game But only now when I really tried to sit back and objectively view SPVP right now, I realized that I’ve been drinking the kool aid.

To be honest, I think you guys need to rock the boat, and literally jolt life back into this game. When a patient is near the brink of death, you don’t stick a battery on his tongue (shaving mentality), you jolt massive electricity into his chest (a game changing balance patch).

Dec 15th is not too far away, but I really think you guys need to put a serious BOLT of energy back into spvp. It will help more people play the game as well! I am dedicated, and was a good boy since launch, but I feel duped, and it makes it feel even worse because there was no blind face behind any of these things. We actually heard the developers speak their mind, and philosophies (Hi jon ;P) towards the game.

Hi, I want to ask whats Anet stand on Backstab currently. While I understand that thieves dont have all that much going on for themselves when it comes to team support as we know it, Im wondering if Anet is really ok with thieves hitting anywhere from 8k-10k with a single ability that unlike most classes with such a strong hitting spell, this one lacks obvious animation, cannot be blocked and does not reveal the thief until it is dispensed.

Currently I believe that if the class is supposed to have that much damage, then I suggest we move that damage to other skills that require at least some kind of risk. Sure if you are a 20k hp warrior then 9k might not be all htat much to you, but if you are a valkiry/zerker guard, ele or mesmer than a 9k hit will take more than half your life ( 80% of your life if you are guard/ele) and thats every 4 seconds.

Please dont bring the “but thieves are squishy! spam all your long CDs in the hope that it might hit them”. It is not fun to be on the receiving end, it is not fun for any observer (I can assure you many people will close any stream if all you see if a thief one shooting anyone in any 1v1 scenario and disengaging any time their health drop a bit).

Let me put it into perspective to all thieves out there; imagine your 14k thief was hit every 4 seconds out of the blue with a 9k skill and there was absolutely nothing you could do about it.

I remember my first BS too, but then I learned how to play, and would rock thieves. This is a L2P issue.

Try backstabbing an average player, you MIGHT hit him 50% of the time, and I am being generous.

If you are even slightly above average, I literally have to be on cooldowns, and immob’d to get hit with a BS.

Can people stop the QQ about diamond skin? It requires you to invest into a defensive line gimping DPS, and also are the glassiest class in the game.

You are acting like it will take people forever to drop below 90. A simple mesmer auto attack will drop a ele below 90. They were even talking about making it 85% because 90% is such a joke in this game. Hell getting an ele to 80% would probably take at most 2 auto attacks tops. Is this really that hard?

Stop the QQ, eles are worst class in game, and this barely gives them a fighting chance, even at 90%. 10% of HP is a joke in this game, especially vs a LIGHT armor class lawl.

Obtain (copy) all of your target’s boons.

This would be an exact copy, including stacks and duration. Obviously certain boss/npc boons could not be copied. This will effectively give Mesmers some “boon hate”. Cast and recharge would need to be monkeyed with to find proper balance, but this could be some real fun in pvp.

I found it incredibly awkward at first but now my hands need barely move to hit the desired ability.
I’d say you need a few weeks to develop the muscle memory, modestly.
If you game hardcore a few days is all you need.

I use his setup too, and it is amazing. I changed from tab to shift though, to cycle through targets, and it is awesome.

^ I don’t think there is a better setup. It is poifect.

simple fixes

1) scepter auto attack – add some condition to it and increase the speed
2) make the torch phantasm anything other than what it is, you will make it better (maybe produces a duplicate of yourself -Doppleganger-. It dodges, hits hard, etc, keep it inline with the prestige, something flashy, or maybe a teleporting burn/explosion who teleports on you
3) give us an option to meld our shatters into niche builds (add torment to each shatter) or poison, or some condition “Your shatters now inflict poison”
4) fix sword 3 leap terrain issues! <3
5) buff chaos armor to guaranteed protection! It really needs some more oomph
5) make staff attacks slightly faster, and remove the vuln as a condition, ANYTHING is better than that!

—new elite skill— something that forms you, an exact clone, that nobody can tell the difference of. This only lasts for 10-15 seconds.

I was wondering if you wanted to compile nifty tricks you have learned over your mesmer career!

A few I know off the top of my head…

1) hit your invuln shatter to safe stomp
2) use blink after anyone uses a downed ability that moves them away from you to secure stomp
3) use your daze shatter to interrupt a stomp on a teammate
4) use mass invis to secure safe rezzs, you can’t stomp invis people…
5) use staff 2 while stomping, then blink back for a safe stomp
6) focus pull to stop stomps on friends or to secure a really nice shatter on enemy team
7) blast finishers or leap in null field or chaos storm give anyone inside it chaos armor (this can change the tide of a battle drastically)

maybe this will grow? and get stickied, but probably not lol.

Why the condescension? Because they may be new to the profession and know little to nothing about it. I had never heard of the “Blackwater” build until I made my mesmer. So I asked questions about it. Just becaue a build has been around a long time does not mean it is know by all. If a player just got the game, its rather foolish to assume they should know about a burst build just because its been around for a year in a game they never played before.

I am almost 99.9% positive that you didn’t start playing meta builds on your own. I don’t know who you are, but there is a high possibility that you are not in the high levels of TPVP in this game on engis. Ostrich, teldo, five gauge etc. are very good players, and their builds change the meta, let alone create them. Please don’t jump on people for using a build, when most of the time, it is due to it being the only viable one.

You might be a famous engi, but 9 out of 10 you are probably not. Your statement about people not thinking for themselves is very selfish and you act like you created all the builds currently in the meta right now. Please show me your footage in professional gaming, personal 1v1s etc. The only person who can complain about people not using builds are the ones who actually created them.

And in this game, it is not hard to create a build that eventually becomes a meta. I main mesmer, and was happy to see my build actually being used to the T, this was a new phantasm build btw. I am much better on mesmer, but at least I knew enough about the class to be like, holy crap, someone else is using my excact same build to pwn on. This was a big day for me.

Would teldo’s node defender in undead runes be an example of a condi/bunker spec? I think he uses nightmare.

I just love the narration, good gameplay, and humor. You made warrior look pretty sick. Like the 2v1 in the hammeroom, he was like, I think that was a 1v2, we are going to call it that. haha a teammate came in after he downed both, I count that as a successful 1v2.

It appears he only shows viable tpvp builds at the moment. I think the main take aways here are skill/play at high lvl tpvp with viable builds.

You can test other builds in hotjoin, anything works there lol.

Condi is not tpvp viable, and interrupt/lockdown really isn’t either. Phantasm could be viable, and other good mesmers have tried (saatercony) but really ins’t mainstream, and not really in this meta.
