Deployable Cannons in beta! [Merged]

As a reminder, we held a poll 2 months ago and the community voted to beta deployable cannons: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Poll-18-July-Cannon-Blueprints-Closed/page/3#post6252969

Why do you let people with zero experience in WvW vote? People should have at least 1k WvW rank before being allowed to vote, or maybe even better: ask the top guilds in WvW what to do. Or else you risk polls getting abused by PvE ppl who just to troll.

Please don’t, dedicated Scouts like me are super low-levelled (right now only rank 233)

To be fair, Boonshare Mesmers and Revenants were an absolute plague in WvW, and directly impacted other classes who couldn’t provide as much boons as them by not being allowed a spot on the meta.
The SoI changes are totally acceptable in my book, I’m finally hoping my mesmer will not be pigeonholed into Boonsharing

I spent 1000+G on boonshare mesmer yesterday

you could just roll another light class soooooo not a big loss

rangers got perma quickness taken away in hours at least you got to enjoy this for a whole year.

Not sure what Ranger build you run but my druid run 33% faster permanently unless in combat.

He’s talking about when WHaO got buffed to copy your pet’s Boons to you without a limit, so we could technically stack Quickness permanently and have easy access to Might. Then, 3 hours later, they made the Boon copying super restricted to the extent where it was practically pointless, and then an uproar on the Ranger subforum ensued that led the skill to a convenient middle ground, which is where we are now.

I did also like their vulnerability to Chill, but I think the reason why they got away from making them invulnerable to Burning is that they would make Condi Dragonhunters and Berserkers almost useless (they both rely heavily on burning for their dps) so I think this is understandable, for the sake of avoiding people having to respec for a single map and the uproar that would come with it.

@Harper My point was just to make you understand that the Humans don’t have a better claim to Ascalon than the Charr who pushed the Grawl and Forgotten off their land, but whatever.
Technically speaking, the Human Gods are responsible for the splitting of the original Bloodstone into 5 pieces, so one could argue that they are still the creators of the modern Bloodstones, but not the original one.

My point is that the old lore isn’t wrong just because it isn’t multiracial. The old game is not invalidated because it had one playable race instead of five.

By that logic all GW2 lore should become invalid the moment GW3 launches and it also has Skritt and Quaggans as playable – because they didn’t get their say in the racially biased GW2 that only had 5 races.

Regardless of the amount of races you play as – lore is lore.

The thing is they were the creators of said bloodstones. And then the splitters. Ths is retconning and you’re just trying to justify it. Why?

Dude, the lore writers of GW1 had absolutely no idea such things as Elder Dragons, Ley Lines, and 4 other main races would pop up until GW:EN, I think you’re being a bit unfair here.
It was impossible to keep old lore relevant in a new world, and i think they did their best to alter as little as they could of the lore while keeping the substance unchanged.
Life’s too short to be sour about ethnocentric bias :/

Well, it wasn’t necessarily retconned, but we realized how biased lore was to make it human-centric. Now that the Priory got multiracial, things were bound to be rewritten because they were simply wrong.
The story of Ascalon follows: as a human in GW1, Charr are the invador against which we have to defend, while in fact the Charr were there first, and the humans are the actual conquerors.
Kinda like in the western world, most people think that the US is the primary responsible for the resolution of the WWII, while in fact it was the Russians that played the biggest part.

Pets QoL requests

Also what would be nice is a way to manually set pet location, like “Guard!” used to work. That way, you can ensure your pet stays safe in boss phases with a lot of AoE, so that you can be sure to benefit from the pet being alive. Maybe make the time during which the pet is travelling to the area invulnerable? Would resolve the absence of dodging for pets.

Oh and I’d really like to have some way of putting sigils on pets. Either their own sigils (one on every paw?) or just make them benefit from the Ranger’s sigils.

No, in fact, full shouts and Resounding Timber are the basis of one of our best builds in PvP because the constant regeneration allows Druids to generate Astral Force continually, and the Swiftness allows them to drop Natural Stride and take Celestial Shadow instead.
Although Axe+Axe is not optimal in higher-end content, you’ll do more than just fine in general PvE content.
You can also think about replacing Search and Rescue with Quickening Zephyr, then spamming 1 and getting an easy 10-15 might.
Also Rampage as One, then hitting a bunch of enemies, then using We Heal As One for instant 25 Might

Djahlat, this sounds less like a ranger overall and more like a mesmer. Also:

Ok, but your point is not really a counter-argument to mine, if anything you’re agreeing with me. Rangers are tied to Nature Magic, there’s no way around it, and firearms have no place in their kitten nal of weapons.

Bull. I explained how it does work, on several levels, both pistol and rifle. And Nature magic in no way prevents someone from using their weapon of choice, even if they did have some kind of bond with it (Which they don’t necessarily have).

Lol nope it doesn’t work, no matter which way I look at it. Makes as much sense as giving a shield to Thieves or a focus to Warriors.
The example I gave was drafted in like 20 minutes, it’s meant to use one of the biggest forces of Nature: Gravity. It’s like an elongation of what Rangers can already do, just like Druid and their affiliation with the Celestial bodies and astral force.

The burden of demonstration has fallen on you. Now it’s your turn to give me an example of how a firearm would be added to an Elite spec for Ranger that: A) Makes sense aesthetically, B) Compensates for one of the things we lack in combat.
The mid-range and long-range projectile-based weapons are already there, but whatever.
I probably won’t answer after that, it’s pointless to argue against something that is obviously not going to break through

Really?
Elementalists are Pyromancers, Hydromancers, Geomancers, Aeromancers, and Arcane Mages, in the same way that Rangers are Skirmishers, Wilderness Survivalists, Beastmasters, Marskmen, and Nature Mages. They use nature magic, well that makes them Mages of Nature. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Nature_Magic

Nah, you got it backwards.

All users of Nature Magic are Rangers, but not all Rangers use Nature Magic. Ranger is the broader term, “Nature Mage” the more specific.

Ok, but your point is not really a counter-argument to mine, if anything you’re agreeing with me. Rangers are tied to Nature Magic, there’s no way around it, and firearms have no place in their kitten nal of weapons.

Actually, cones in this game are AoEs, which aren’t considered projectiles. The best example of this is Blunderbuss, the engineer #3 rifle skill. I’ll grant you that it wouldn’t keep up with ele AoE, but that’s a pretty kitten high bar to set.

Blunderbuss is always the skill that comes to mind when I think of Shotgun Rifle. Other cones in the game: Wave of Wrath, Flame Jet, Shattering Blow. All are skills that could be useful in designing a cone-based weapon.

And for curiosity, what do you consider able to keep up with Ele Staff?

Well, I did have a few ideas, so I’ll give a sample of an elite spec for ranger: The Scale
Basically using Gravity as a force of nature and harnessing it. Inspired by Chronomancers’ Well of Gravity.
The weapon would be a 2H hammer.
#1: Slam the ground with increased strength, sending a small shockwave in a cone in front of player, a bit like Guardian Staff #1
#2: Revert the gravitational field of a line in front of you which lifts debris off the floor. Applies Blindness and Bleed. (Same modalities as Inspiring Reinforcement for Revenants)
#3: Throw your hammer on your foe. When it lands, your foe becomes the center of a gravitational field which Immobilizes them for 5 seconds, and pulls foes (4) towards them. Causes bleed and confusion on affected foes.
#4: Smash enemies in the area. The More enemies are affected, the more damage and conditions are applied to each of them. AoE: Radius 270, Range 1,000 (Animation of a bunny jumping from caster to the Area, becomes progressively bigger while jumping)
#5: Temporarily increase the mass of foes in an area, which cripples them, or knock them down if they already are crippled. Applies Torment. AoE: Radius 300, Range 1,000, Lasts 7 seconds, Applies 1s Torment every second. Max Targets: 5

Utilities would be Manipulations.
Heal: Gravity’s Blessing: Heal yourself while becoming the center of a negative gravitational field, which reflects projectiles
1: Body Slam: Steal 4 boons from selected foe and knock them down for 1 second.
2: Gravity Stampede: Place a gravitational field in desired area which attracts you to it at high speed, launching enemies along the way. End effect: Stuns you for 1 second
3: Undeniable Attraction: Pulls foe your way while transferring 3 of your Conditions on them.
4: Substitution: You and your pet instantly switch position. Teleport range: 1200. Breaks Stun.
Elite: Hare’s Thump: Slam the ground 3 times with your leg. 1st thump: Applies Bleed and cripple to foes. 2nd thump: applies Confusion and Torment to your foes. 3rd thump: Knock down foes and Finish one that is downed

Unique Mechanic i still didn’t think about that

It’s a ranged projectile-based weapon that offers little to no AoE potential, which we already have 3 of (Longbow, Shortbow, and Mainhand Axe)

That’s short sighted of you. Who’s to say a Rifle couldn’t be a conal Shotgun with <600u range? Such a weapon would be the low end of midrange to melee and aoe. Add in a bayonet charge styled skill and you’ve got a lot to work around. Even Pistols could be designed in such a way that they’re aoe focused. You don’t even have to buck normal conventions like Mesmer GS or Rev Hammer do, sufficient concepts exist in life, ripe for the inspiration.

Conal shotguns are still based on Projectiles. Besides, I’m talking about the kind of AoE that would be competitive with Elementalists staff, so we’re not totally useless gunk in WvW squads.
Good luck with coming up with those skills on firearms. Why even use firearms if you’re not going to be shooting Projectiles with it? That’s the whole point of black powder and guns.
However, all of out current Ranged weapons do little damage but very fast, so we often die to Retaliation alone (in WvW). Having a slow hard-hitting weapon wouldn’t hurt for a change. That’s basically the only pro-rifle argument I could come up with that makes sense. But then again, I wouldn’t sacrifice the current Ranger aesthetic and vibe for black powder

You guys are so obsessed with firearms and permanent pet stowing, why don’t you just roll a warrior or thief and call it a day

Harnel you’re trying too hard to make a square fit into a triangle. Rangers are Nature mages. You could argue they weren’t in GW1’s time, but there is no denying it in GW2. Now don’t get Druids mixed with Nature mages, those are two entirely different things.
Anyways, think what you will, I’m still adamantly opposed to firearms for any Ranger elite spec. It’s a ranged projectile-based weapon that offers little to no AoE potential, which we already have 3 of (Longbow, Shortbow, and Mainhand Axe)

I think we’re in more dire need of either a melee condi weapon, or some AoE weapon.
2h hammer could fit for both, and it would be reminiscent of that Bunny Thumper build in gw1

As far as the whole ‘enchanting bullets’ things goes, think of glasses of water, I suppose.

The smaller the glass, the less water you can put into it before it overflows and gets everywhere (which, with magic, would be more dangerous than just getting everything wet). So with a bullet, you have something small, about the size of your thumb, or around there. An arrow on the other hand is about the length of your forearm, and has proportionally higher mass. The more mass it has, the more ‘water’ (magic) you can pour in safely. The more you can put magic into an item, the more you can enchant it, and the more you can enchant it, the more deadly it is.

In this way, arrows are generally superior to bullets because they can be enchanted much more than a bullet can. Conversely, however, the technology behind a bullet allows it to shoot harder in a single go, as it propels the projectile at much greater speeds. Additionally, bows can’t allow for much mechanical customization, as changes to the structure of the bow’s limbs either throw off its balance, weigh it down, or otherwise adversely affect its use; guns don’t suffer from that, which is why engineers can attach things like net launchers, flamethrowers, and alternate fire modes to guns.

In Tyria, neither one is more powerful than the other. the gun can’t be nearly as well enchanted as the bow, but it’s capable of having much more versatility of design.

But yeah, we’re all entitled to our opinions. I just personally despise the idea of medieval stasis, so I’m personally quite glad that the charr brought in technology to the game world.

Your analogy doesn’t hold much sense in Tyria.
Glint’s entire Lair was hidden in a single grain of sand, and I’m pretty sure it held considerabl amounts of magic. In no way is the size of an object representative of its magical retaining abilities

I don’t want them for two reasons
1) we have already 3 weapons that are entirely reliant on projectiles, and it’s quite bothersome against the mass of reflects and projectile mitigation in-game
2) It doesn’t fit the thematic of the ranger as I know it. We are masters of archery, skirmishes, beastmastery, survival, and nature magic. I’ll leave the gunslinger role to thieves, engineers and warriors

But more than that, we also recognize the identity of those we fight, mainly Yak’s Bend and their legendary use of Siege Equipment, and Blackgate and their raw power and dirty tactics sometimes.
I transferred from Vizunah Square, it’s a French server on the EU side, where we absolutely dominated everyone in WvW, but as time went by, the server degraded, and I left for Tarnished Coast because I actually live in NA (my ping rate thanks me for that), but I did my fair bit of research before and I learned that I was probably the friendliest NA server in WvW, and i enjoy some casual RP.

Inquests and Primordus (spoilers)

in Lore

Posted by: Djahlat.9610

Djahlat.9610

This next bit is just a theory, but let me know it’s plausible:
Primordius behaves like an Ant Queen. When he still was underground, most destroyers looked very alien, but I looked them up recently, and they turnt out to look a lot like underground insects, tunnelers and plants/fungi. And now in GW2 when the minions surface, they suddenly look like crabs, harpies and trolls. So I’m wondering if they’re devouring creatures and using their bodies as blueprints to creature destroyers.

I actually thought about that recently and the two mlst plausible theories i could come up with were those:
1) the destroyers simply get the shape that is the best depending on where they go spread corruption. Because most encounters with destroyers in GW1 was underground, they had forms and shapes that adapted them to their environment. Now in GW2 they’re much closer to the surface, so they have enough room to fly, or just be big in general.
2) Just like the Sylvari were shaped after human because the Pale Tree used Ronan’s dead family grave as a template to make humans, the destroyers copy the shape of living creatures

E-spec concept throught racial?

Posted by: Djahlat.9610

Djahlat.9610

When looking at the Druid, we can say without a doubt that this elite spec come from the racial background of the human race.

Really? I don’t feel that way at all. In my opinion, Druid is more closely correlated to Norn than humans — and even that is a stretch.

No, he is right when saying that Druids are originally part of human lore and culture. (see https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Druid )
There’s even an event chain in Auric Basin (Somewhere between Eastwatch Post and Bristleback Bluff) that focuses on tracking ancient runes left behind by the original Druids hundreds of years ago.

@OP: I like the idea, however ANet tried really hard to make the Druid E-spec dissociated from Human lore, so I can hardly imagine them making future E-specs blatantly related to other races’ lore.

However, I am no fool and do understand that Only a minority of the ranger player base had such an easy time dealing with the rooting that came with Sword, and it would be unrealistic and unreasonable to expect ANet to revert the changes to sword (although if they could roll back the animations to what they were before it would be really nice because i love how it was literally a dance while fighting, kinda like Water Dancing from Game of Thrones, it brought a poetic dimension to fighting, now it’s just “swing, swing, swing my sword again” – Colin Johanson)

1. The human race is directly threatened by Centaurs and Bandits (which include ministry corruption and White Mantle actions). It is common knowledge that the Elder Dragons are a thing, but they are very distant (akin to how someone living in Miami would view ISIS kinda). For the common people, it is more important to deal with what’s at our doorstep rather than some distant threat that might never impact them directly.
2. Destiny’s Edge is a small guild that was successful in slaying Dragon Champions. Each of them is an influential member of their race, or has a lot of respect among their peers. They disbanded because when they were about to fight Kralkatorrik (the Dragon that left the black/purple scar on the land of the Charr called The Brand), Logan left the rest of the group alone to go save Queen Jennah in Ebonhawk, which resulted in the death of Snaff (Zojja’s mentor) and Zojja blames Eir for her lack of leadership, Eir blames herself for the death of her comrade and useless death of Glint, and Rytlock blames Logan. Much drama ensues, and they disbanded. (read Edge of Destiny for more detail)

Just today i bought the Cosmic Mining Tool and the Concentrated Solar energy Logging Tools, even if the – tron ones are on sale just because I wanna look cute while harvesting, and because I hate having to buy new tools, if i did it for a monetary advantage, then I’d simply convert my gems to gold and carry on with the Orichalcum equipment.

Roamers aiming for QQ

While the topic of the thread was about griefing, my point was to propose the implementation of a Resign function.

Many people in the convo admitted to do it in a vengeful manner, which, now that I think about it, can be avoided by giving the ability for resign as soon as they get downed.

Didn’t find anything on the subject, so i thought it was appropriate to start a new topic on the matter.

Many times I have been intercepted alone in Borderland Maps by solo roamers who (about 40% of the time) manage to down me in a fair skirmish. So far so good. Most of them kill me shortly after downing me by either stomping me or by continuing to attack me.

The other day, during the off-hours of the maps, this one roamer kept on purposefully finding me on the map and initiating combat, but when he downed me, he wouldn’t stomp me or kill me, he’d just stand around until my HP drains itself. As soon as i would start channelling skill 4, he simply used an autoattack to interrupt and it could go on for about 30seconds to an entire minute.
I didn’t want to try to whisper the guy because it was clear his intent was to make me quit the game, so for my sake i kept my cool.

I was on ranger and him a stealth thief, so I quickly adjusted to the way he fights (mainly Sic’ Em and knockbacks and AoEs) and he stopped bugging me because he became harmless, but I was wondering if it was possible to implement a way to simply /resign (as was done in GW1) when downed to avoid this kind kf frustrating situation.

I know it happens very rarely, but it is still a way for toxic players to spread their negativity in the game. I can’t imagine how much more frustrating and discouraging of an experience it must be for new players.

How to fight Druid in WvW?

yep, what balian said is accurate. if you have trouble with 1 immo + 2 seconds chanelled skill wait when you enjoy thiefs 40k unload, or its 25k opener burst.
Or instakill hammer 2 from hamrev. Or air overcharge from tempest.

you are going to have a lot of fun my son!

Thing is I’ve never had much problem with those other classes in WvW. Without any clones up, I would only get .75 seconds of distortion from my shatter. And I was dead before I could use any one of my skills. Distortion was the only thing I could pop off, because the druid had me downed before the stun wore off.

dude in wvw there is no point to defend. So you are talking about pvp or wvw?

just wait, i realized now you are just another baddie that got rekt in pvp by a noob druid (so you must be really really bad) and comes here to whine.

Sorry dude, the devs dont look at this forum anymore if you want nerfs you must post in reddit. Until then L2P baddie.

Don’t mind him haha, we’re just used to people who main other classes come here and request a nerf because “Ranger/Druid OP”, but i can see your concern is purely instructional.

So it seems to me you got hit by the classic Point Blank Shot, which procced the Ancient Seed traits (what immobilized you), followed by Rapid Fire (one of the two actually relevant skills for ranger to burst down opponents). Best thing i can recommend it to either reflect, since all those attacks are ranged, or to find some way to dodge during a few seconds. The ranger is then almost inoffensive until the Cooldowns are up, which is a ~15 seconds window for you to either retaliate or escape (watch out though, because rangers are extremely efficient at chasing, with gap closers, 1500 range and immobilize, as well as a 10% Precision boost is they’re hitting you from behind)

Thieves and Weapon Swapping

weapon swapping is useful because there are many powerful sigils that get triggered when you swap weapon. if you really want to stick to the same weapon set, you can equip a dagger in your mainhand of the first set, and place the other dagger in the offhand slot of the second set. the game will combine them all the time, and when you swap weapons, you keep the same weapons but benefit from the mechanical weapon swaps.

not sure if that made sense.

other alternative is to keep a shortbow as second set because of the utility ot provides (mainly spammable blast finishers and spammable shadowstepping)

Channel skills like Rapid Fire don’t track strealthed enemies, it’s been changed well over 2 years ago
