New "Repeatable HP" icon is not good

Djinn.9245

Well, you’re right. I logged on to check and I literally could not tell by looking or mousing over the icon which repeatable ones I’ve already done.

Edit: mousing over map completion % on the UI made the ones not done flare. So I guess try that.

This is what I was going to suggest. With the map zoomed out so you can see pretty much the whole zone, mouse over the Hero Point icon in the Map Completion area and the ones you have not done will flash.

Lady Wisteria freaked out and killed me!

In my home instance I used the new water pistol on Lady Wisteria Whiskignton and she freaked the kitten out!

She attacked me and my pet. Kept hitting me with some sort of constant stun effect and the counter magic skill popped up, which broke the stun when I used it.

I noticed when she attacked, she had a breakbar. I also noticed the water pistol was reducing the breakbar. I wasn’t able to damage the cat, so I kept using the water pistol on her.

Once her breakbar was gone, she stood still for a few seconds and a ginormous orange circle expanded out from here. And then there was a gigantic ’splosion and I died.

So, if you shoot the bloodstone kitty with the squirt gun, you’re going to have a bad time.

That’s hysterical

Catmander tag

What I’d really live is some way to get the commander tools (like markers), and preferably the tag, to use in a squad whitout showing a tag for the entire map.
Make it possible to hide the tag for non squadmates, and it can be used in Open Worls guild stuff without confusing outside people.

I want to +1 this like forever

ANet has said they don’t want this, because it defeats the purpose of squads.

Do you have a link for this? Because it doesn’t make any sense. People join a squad to follow the commander. No reason the squad leader has to be visible to those who aren’t in the squad unless they want to.

Why can't I hold all these trenchcoats?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There was an Anet video of some kind (don’t remember) released prior to the Legendary Armor where the dev responsible for the Legendary Armor basically acknowledged that they knew the players didn’t want trenchcoats but they did it anyway. So there’s that.

Watch it again. That’s not quite accurate.

The problem is that the mesh they use for medium armor is setup to favor certain styles — trenchcoats and buttcapes; the light & medium are not. To change that would require overhauling the system in some way.

So they didn’t say that “they did it anyway,” they said that they didn’t have the alternative for legendary armor, without delaying it even longer, much longer.

It seems clear to me that they designed themselves into a terrible corner with armor generally: it takes them 9 months for one full set (of all weights), they have stark limits on design for each weight, and (although we have outfits), they have locked us into one weight per class permanently.

Sorry, but they have made Medium armor without trenchcoats or butt capes so I don’t understand not having an “alternative”. And since they have done it before, even if it is somewhat difficult, there is ZERO excuse for something as important as Legendary armor.

I was thinking more about this and what Anet probably meant is that they got it stuck in their head that Medium Legendary armor has to transform from one armor “look” to another armor “look” and a skirt is the only option they had based on their framework. Well then they shouldn’t have gone with that type of transformation then. Light Legendary armor doesn’t completely transform from one look to another. There was no reason Medium HAD to grow a skirt!

Dwayna airdraft difficulty and suggestion

It’s become a platform game. If you don’t like platform games, you’re not going to enjoy the new zone. It’s like the designers have overdosed on SM and have been told they must include jumps, puzzles and glides to get anywhere as that will make up for the lack of actual content.

And by the looks of it, the expansion has more in common with Super Marios than Guild Wars. ‘Mounts’ which are really just hidden gated jump skills….

The Metroidvania was strong in HoT, no lie. I’m expecting the same out of PoF honestly. I’ll be a little sad if mastery points get gated behind needing other masteries to continue, especially if those masteries are actually kind of useless otherwise (Itzel Poison Mastery, looking at you…). But, I expect no PoF zone will be completable without the relevant mastery boosting, just like it was in HoT.

I’m waiting to see exactly what is gated and what the gating is (Adventures?) before I purchase the expansion. Depending how bad it is I might purchase it anyway but not get the Ultimate version with the gems because I vote with my wallet.

Regarding the Dwayna area, I managed to get the 2 MP just floating around until I happened to get up there. I didn’t know about the spider so I have never gotten to it. Not sure that I will because it is very annoying.

ANet said years ago that they tried to get capes in, but apparently they clashed with Charr animations.

So you can cross that one off your list.

Just to be devil’s advocate for a moment..

We have racial exclusive armours.
Making racial exclusive backpack skins wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility.

They could. But considering how rarely people use the guild banner below or the similar gemstore guild banner I doubt that it would be that popular now. With so many interesting backpacks in the game I doubt people care that much about capes anymore. It was more important to people when it was the only option and they were members of only one guild.

actually the fact that we have flags instead of capes has everything to do with the lack of ppl not using them, we want capes not some stupid lame banner on our back.

Whether or not people consider identification banners worn on the back to be stupid or lame depends on their culture and what they’ve learned to expect.

Sashimomo were small banners historically worn by soldiers in feudal Japan for identification during battles."

you yourself pointed out that ppl just don’t wear them and now you go and defend them?…..

I was commenting on the “stupid and lame” part of your post.

I think that they don’t wear them because
1) they have many other, more interesting choices
2) most people are members of multiple guilds, not one guild, and so guild loyalty is less, leading to fewer people wanting guild capes
3) and in addition, yes, because it’s not part of their culture to wear back banners then its not what they expect or want (which is not the same as stupid or lame).

I always find it interesting when the best argument against something that a person is able to come up with is an insult.

Why does raiding feel so unfriendly?

Being someone who hasn’t raided previously in GW2, I’d like to get into it. But honestly the vibe I have gotten across the board has been that its pretty much out of the question unless you are lucky enough to find a “training” group. I looked in LFG and it was pretty much only wanting exp players.

Yep. Good thing Anet decided to gate finishing the masteries behind Raiding, huh? No non-core XP for me for the rest of the game unless they don’t do the same stupid thing with PoF. But of course if they aren’t going to gate Masteries / XP behind raiding in PoF, why did they do it in HoT?

Hard to say why Anet does things.

If GW2 devs stripped and copied every feature in WoW and introduced it in their own game, it still wouldn’t be WoW.

If they completely destroy the entire leveling process because ‘hurr endgame durr’, THEN it will be like WoW.

Anet already did that. They destroyed the leveling process starting with Tomes of Knowledge and Birthday scrolls and finished with the New Player Experience and 80 boosts.

How will mount clutter work?

Djinn.9245

If what I’ve been told is true interacting with NPCs, gathering and pretty much anything else pulls you off your mount. And you definitely can’t fight on a mount because they covered that in the article.

When I watched some videos about mounts right after the announcement, I saw characters dismounting to combat mobs and their mounts still being there – not disappearing.

So even if they don’t out-right ban mounts in cities people blocking things like the TP and the bank will have to be doing nothing else – just standing there. I know people do go afk there, but I doubt it will be a case of everyone on the mounts crowded together.

You obviously haven’t played, or don’t remember, WoW…

But I’d be very surprised if Anet don’t implement at least small no-mount zones. Even single-player games where you can summon your mount from thin air (like Dragon Age Inquisition) do that.

One can hope, but I am willing to bet they haven’t implemented them yet. Look at the situation with summonable bank / TP on top of NPCs / chests which nothing has been done about all these years.

Pretty amazing that a Deluxe edition bonus is so poorly implemented. I know clipping is a problem for a lot of skins, but this is supposed to be an incentive for players to buy the higher tiers of the expac and as it stands this will probably turn a lot of players off.

Also, the outfit honestly looks so basic to me. I’m really tempted to load up a human character and do a mix-and-match armor set to see how close we can get to this outfit with current armor skins.

That just looks bizarre.

Gliding Vs. Mounts?

One major benefit of mounts is that instead of relying so heavily on multilevel to increase map size they won’t be afraid to make the map large in terms of area.

If the map is bigger but doesn’t have many WP (cause mounts), it will be very annoying IMO. WP are instant travel, mounts are not.

Im a little surprised how many people say they dont wants mounts after seeing so many posts about it for the last 5 years in the forums

That’s the interesting thing about the internet – one day it can see like “everyone” wants one thing and the next day it can seem like “everyone” wants a different thing. Yet it’s just a matter of which opinions are more noticeable. Before there were going to be mounts, people who wanted mounts could write threads titled “I want mounts” but people who didn’t want mounts were unlikely to start a thread titled “I don’t want mounts”. Now it’s the opposite.

We have seen in videos that we CAN glide in the new expansion zones. My issue is that with the introduction of mounts, how much travel with them will be required? (They are the new Masteries.) And how much travel with gliders will be possible? (I haven’t seen a lot of updrafts except around the Zephyrite area so far.)

I personally didn’t want yet more movement gimmicks.

@Djinn: It’s difficult to properly respond when we haven’t played the game yet. I can’t imagine dismounting is any more difficult that pressing a key. So now it’ll be <dismount key> + <jump key> rather than just <jump key>. Is that really a big deal?

I’m not asking for experience. Perhaps you aren’t familiar with running across the map jumping & gliding as you go. It’s very fun. But all it requires is pressing your space bar as you go. Like hyperactive people who like just jumping as they run. It is seamless.

What you are describing isn’t a big deal and I never said my question was a big deal, but it isn’t exactly seamless either.

Don’t use your mount, run and glide all you want. Not sure what the big deal is. Gliding should work the same it always does. If you’re mounted it won’t but you won’t have to be on your mount all the time. There’ll be chasms you have to jump maybe, so you jump on your mount, jump the chasm and then run and glide again. It’s like using a jumping mushroom or anything else.

Wonder if we can jump with a mount, then dismount mid way and glide? Also another thing I overlooked. Day 1 we won’t all have mounts but will need to progress thru the new areas, so we may see oakheart, thermal prop, Skritt tunnels etc.. Ok, excited.. lol

No evidence of those in the videos I have seen except some updrafts around the Zephyrite area. But I guess we’ll see.

Without having tested the mounts and only the trailer to judge by, they appear to either walk, or hover above the ground. I was hoping for a real flying mount, and yes, a Dragon or perhaps a Wyvern. But, to be honest with gliding and updrafts, I just love gliding. My favorite passtime is finding new places to jump from. Love VB, all the updrafts and just exploring. I can’t even imagine playing any other game, that would not offer the same freedom.

That said, I have a feeling places to jump from will be limited in the new EXP. Why? Mounts are a selling point. A new item to obtain, unlock, w/e. It seems unlikely we can get to all the various places just gliding. But I truely hope I’m wrong. I really want to glide through the new places, land on tricky perches and just set my own pace. It is (to me) the most relaxing and enjoyable thing I do in game. Whether I am using oakheart to get to the top of our guild hall so I can glide around on the way down, or in the new area completing Dwaynas missions with the poison clouds, any excuse and I am airborn and I really am happy. Sounds crazy I guess, but well you asked lol

Doesn’t sound crazy – I just enjoy gliding as I go from place to place. Running down a road I go a bit off the road and find a hill or something to jump from. I guess we’ll see how much gliding travel is possible in the new expansion.

I have played Lotro and had a stable of horses, but exploring was limited by mobs. With gliding, well the sky, is the limit

P.S. it’s the desert, will we be able to ride the Junundu?

Lol, there are 4 mounts in the videos and non of them is a wurm.

Traversal in PoF

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

Hey all.

Been a long-time GW2 player, haven’t played too much lately because HoT introduced a bunch of cool things, but also something I didn’t much enjoy – the map confusion, 28 levels of verticality per zone, traversal skills needed to not /headdesk, etc.

Looking at the PoF video, it looks to me like this is back to GW2 original edition’s view of the world – mostly flat, with mounts. Sounds like a win!

Anyone know whether or not this is the case, or it’s going to be more of an orangutan simulator like HoT? The inability to enter a flow state with HoT really put me off (I get not everyone has this issue, but – small sample size, I agree – my friends who started HoT with me stopped playing for the same sort of confusion issue).

Yes, PoF will be more platforming but on mounts. The mounts are not “cool normal map” mounts, but portable jumping mushrooms, etc. There are a couple of videos out there from people who got to actually play in the expansion already and the mounts are acquired just like your first glider – by a Mastery. The Raptor mount is a long-jumping Mastery, the “kangaroo rat” mount is a high-jumping Mastery, etc. So instead of having these gimmicks in the landscape you now will have them traveling with you.

Yay.

Honestly they could have just given us the ability of true flight and that would have given players all the mobility they need. Mounts is OK and lacking true flight does add a travel dynamic to the game. It’s the least of my concerns as the new elites look to complicate the game enough.

That would make jumping puzzle and exploration pointless. The map would be just a place to fly by as if you were playing with a free camera.
Aerial enemies and air combat could be implemented, but if it’s true flying then it would resemble water combat and we all know where that leads.

If a JP were surrounded by a no-fly bubble it wouldn’t be an issue. But in a game where jumping is such a thing, true flying would definitely be a challenge unless it was only in specific areas. After all, that’s what swimming is (“flying” in specific areas). And I’m not sure that flying would lead to aerial enemies, but so what? What are you trying to say about water combat?

As the new expansion comes out I hear the words “Bigger Maps” and I ask myself how I can make them even larger, more real, more immersive…. and then I realize oh why not try this game in first person? The moment I went into 1st person the game was instantly much larger, enemies were way more detailed looking and having to fight them in 1st person was a lot more intense. The only problem about 1st person I’m having with however, is that I don’t really see my arms, weapons or much detail into my own animations. The coolest thing I saw so far was 3 skill on water scepter for ele, using the trident in 1st person was awesome seeing myself actually wield the trident and shoot the clone of it to the target location really made me want more out of 1st person after that. If Anet made some changes to the first person mode, imagine how big the world would really feel? How crazy fighting the npcs would really be? There’s so much to go off of this I don’t see why no ones worked on the 1st person camera yet, hopefully it’ll be worked on eventually, cause I’m a die hard PvPer but I’d sure get into PvE much easier If 1st person was like other games, seeing my casts and weapons, 1st mount riding, ooooooh the possibilities!

I would never use it. I appreciate being able to see mobs coming up

Roughly speaking, isn’t “gliding” the same as riding a mount? It’s a way of getting from A to B that isn’t walking.

If mounts are as fun as Spiderman Webbing Oakheart’s Reach, then I imagine most of us will mostly have fun with them, too. And I’m sure that we’ll still be able to enjoy gliding; it just won’t be required in PoF zones.

I enjoy gliding for travel. But from the gameplay video’s I’ve seen, mounts are going to be required for a good bit of travel in the new maps.

I don’t see how this could be charr-biased when the trailer is full of human history and human characters. Whether or not it will be satisfying for human PCs is another question — HoT was sylvari-focused but left a lot of unanswered issues for them at the same time, and the game’s general track-record of acknowledging different races is not good in general.

The human focus in the trailer could be simply because they’re pushing the nostalgia angle of going back to a GW1 location

The sword cost exactly the same amount of wood as the mace, Eureka. Also less than the hammer costs.

What made this episode’s impact so much stronger, I think, is two things

  • Two legendaries launched, not one.
  • At least one more popular than the earlier ones.

The fact that another legendary requires so much wood doesn’t answer the question of why a SWORD would take wood at all. At least a mace has a wooden haft in GW2 crafting, a sword has zero functional wood in any crafting. Maybe a bit of decorative wood on the grip. We don’t even use scabbards…

Very strange for Anet to just randomly require materials – we go from intricate story at the beginning of HoT legendaries to “no reason why we require things” at the end. It’s like “quick, we have to get these legendaries done – just throw these things in there”. Or “just use the same basic recipe as a completely different weapon”.

If you want realism in recipes you should focus on how much leather is required for armor of all weights, including metal and cloth armor. its pretty kitten ridiculous

Recipes started out more realistic. You are correct about leather but I’m not talking about it because this thread is about wood

Maps locked behind story episodes

Hello!

Just trying to get a feel about what you think when you can’t actually get to a map until you have finished the requisite story episode.

In my opinion – and it is just that, an opinion – is that I find the concept frustrating. I know some will just say “do the story then” or TP to a friend but I am a very solo player and a Filthy Casual with zero skillz and am the complete opposite of l33t…

What’s your take on it? I suspect I’m very much in the minority here!

I think that a lot of people are frustrated by this, but I suspect that it is primarily to encourage future or returning players to purchase the Living Story. And I can’t blame Anet for that.

I had no problem with my characters taking the oath. If we’re serious about saving Tyria you have to do whatever it takes to get the resources and information you need, and if that means lying to some secret society or the Orders or the PACT so be it.
I’m working to save the planet, not just one region. They can play their political games with their secret handshakes and oaths and clubhouses.
Meanwhile, I’m out there getting the job done.

You apparently didn’t understand the idea of “magic oath that will kill you if you tell a Kryta government (not Tyria) secret”. Which means that the government of Kryta could be planning to take over the planet and you couldn’t tell anyone. Stupid plot.

Legendary Trinket questions/discussion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Djinn.9245

So we have collection for Legendary Trinkets, and someone has crafted them. But in the video it looked like there was only one of them. Can that really be right?

My biggest fear/grumble is that this is for a single “accessory” rather than a matched pair. Who in their right mind would invest in a Mystic Tribute for a single accessory?

Surely a matched pair makes a lot more sense.

From my POV, the cost for a one-handed Legendary weapon should be about half that for a two-handed weapon. A set of Legendary Armor cost should be comparable to a two-handed weapon, and a Legendary Trinket should be comparable to 1 piece of Legendary Armor. I don’t understand why they would make a single legendary accessory equal in cost to an entire armor set or a two-handed weapon.

On topic, I doubt any future legenarys will ever be tradable again. It deducts from their value (being of cosmetic nature and rarity). It’s nice to not see everyone running around with T2 legendarys, makes them more unique. T1 legendarys were basically less desired skin wise than normal skins, not good in a game about flash and style.

I don’t agree with this position. You don’t see many people with T2 because they are more difficult to make and because they haven’t been around as long. I have many people in my guild who made one T2 and said they would never make another because of how difficult / expensive it was. For the people who don’t have that issue, there is the fact that T2 legendaries haven’t been around as long so there hasn’t been the same amount of time past for a lot of people to have a chance to make them. There are relatively more T1s because they were around what – more than 3 years before the first T2?

I also disagree that “T1 legendarys were basically less desired skin wise than normal skins”. That’s an incredible statement to make lol.

I’m not seeing your counter argument?

Less people make them just means they are rarer, the reasons don’t matter. Thus they have more value.

Second, T1 legendarys are more than half the price of T2 legendarys. For people who want the effect and not the skin (which there is a lot of by now, especially for T1) the players make the T1 legendary, hence the skins are less desired. That is before even accounting for the longer duration they were available which only supports my argument even more.

It’s basic logic really.

You can disagree with whatever you want, the fact remains a lot of players (especially seasoned ones) who own legendarys do not do so for the T1 skins(except some select few which are fan favorites). Those who enjoy the T2 skins make them, others do not. In either case, the T2 ones are and will remain rarer than the T1 counterparts.

I was disagreeing with your point about T1 being “less desired”.

Theres lots of things in MMOs that people cant stand, and thats simply because no MMO design will ever please everyone.
But a common type claim thats made a lot is
I want “this” and I want to get it by doing “that.”
If I cant get “this” my way the game is broken and should be fixed.
All this means is that this game is not for you, and you should find another game that meets your requirements.

It’s not the fact that people “want” a PvE specific reward by doing PvP/WvW, its the fact that there aren’t the same level of rewards being offered in the other gamemodes.

No one would complain if they released PvP/WvW specific legendary armor because that gives everyone an equal chance of getting it.

For example, if legendary armor was gated behind an immense amount of PvP/WvW, you’d bet PvE players would complain as well.

If there was a currency that was rewarded in every single game mode, Anet could make it so there was some way to use that currency to get what you want. Then people could play how they wanted to play and still get the rewards they chose. This could have been gold, but Anet made gold purchasable and some people don’t want others to be able to buy what they want with their IRL $.

It’s possible that the incredible lag in that map is causing you to lose credit somehow. I purchased something from a vendor and then later it wasn’t in my inventory and I believe I didn’t lose my $ (like the purchase never happened). I have died from falling when I closed my glider 2 feet above the ground (the game apparently thought I was still much higher up). Etc. Etc.

If this cat in Siren’s Landing says that you just have to figure out what it wants. Usually one of the new food items that they sell recipes for.

Legendary Trinket questions/discussion

L-weapons are more/less available to everyone, whereas l-armor is stated by ANet to be one of the perks of raiding. So, as Cyninja says, legendary armor pieces aren’t necessarily a good comparison. Notice further that l-armor pieces use 15 clover versus 77 for an l-weapon. So it might be better to compare the cost of 5 armor pieces with one weapon. On that basis, 1400-1800g for trinkets is in the ballpark.

I’m having a hard time understanding this concept. 1 trinket = 1 piece of armor from what I can see, not a whole set.

On the whole, the “trade everything” crowd finds it easier to live with account binding versus the “trade nothing” contingent, who finds it less enjoyable that the manifestations of their accomplishments are available for a low, low price.

Not understanding the “low, low price” reference. I can work 10k hours (made-up number) to physically make a sword IRL, or I can pay someone else whatever they charge for that sword. Either I worked to make the sword or I worked to make the money (in the case of my suggestion to have a new currency that can’t simply be purchased).

People who might be concerned that I didn’t obtain something the exact same way they obtained it are just trying to tell other people how to play. How I play should only be my business.

Is it good for the game if everything is purchasable from the BLTC (gem shop or tp)? Lots of players feel their accomplishments are devalued if money can be used to skip participation, dedication, and (occasionally) skill.

You don’t think it required the same qualities (participation, dedication, and (occasionally) skill) to amass thousands of gold? Sure some people might purchase gold, but a lot of people get gold the same way they would get a Legendary. It would be nice to be able to play the way I want and still get the item I want. Not talking about easy mode but do the things I like in-game. Currently the only currency we have that is gained everywhere and can be used for most things is gold. And it was Anet’s choice to have gold be purchasable. But if you don’t want a legendary to be purchasable, then create a new “overall” currency and let us use it. Even if an item costs 10,000 currency like the Queen Bee, I would still be able to play as I chose to get that currency which would make it seem like less of a “grind”.

With the August reveal/announcement of the newest GW2 expansion right around the corner, I cannot help but wonder. Are we getting new reveals? Or are we just getting a petty confirmation of the same content we got leaked back in May?

I hope the announcement only shows what the huge moron already leaked. I personally haven’t looked into the leaks so from the tiny amount I have accidentally seen I am good with finally officially hearing about it.

Swapped weapons during fight beat it first go.

Condi Ranger is Viable takes a few minutes to do it. Put pets on passive manage them. Fern Hound for extra heals, Electric Wyvern for Break Bar then stop them from hitting them. No need to kite it, Healing Spring to heal. Try to heal when your half health only 4 traps of spikes, fire, poison and elite. Mango pies help too. And really important swap pets before they die so recharge is less. Luckily that is not affected by the debuff.

Hope that helps fellow rangers

Thanks for the input. Kiting is necessary if the fight will take more than a few minutes because the damage will get higher and higher. Even on a Warrior that doesn’t take as much damage, with regen AND mango pie I died twice due to the damage ramp up. That’s why I started kiting while waiting for my skill cooldown. I’m sure for those with optimal builds/gear/play, they can burn the mob down faster and don’t need to kite.
