GW2 was purposefully made to not only be friendly to players helping but to encourage it. This is what people are used to. Trying to go against that is of course going to be difficult even though what you are trying to do is a perfectly reasonable goal.

Perhaps make a post in the Suggestion forum for a “test dummy” with a HoT champ?

Hate being forced to do achievements

Yes I really hate that A-Net is forcing me to do achievements that I care nothing about and don’t really want to do. Not including enough Mastery points on the HoT maps themselves to finish all the masteries is a bad decision on their part. In order to get the last 12 mastery points I need to finish the last mastery I have to do achievements, and I do not like doing achievements. Why should I be forced to do a part of the game I don’t want to do to get my legendary short bow? A-Net please I know you can find challenging ways to add more mastery spots on the maps themselves so those of us who don’t like do the achievements don’t have to. It is like telling every play you must do raids or you must play wvw or pvp. Let us play our way.

Unbelievable, you want anet to mail you your wanted legendary too? there is a reason why those are called “legendaries” and crafting most of them will mean a lot of time, work, patience and sometimes doing things you don’t like. You don’t wanna do archievements? forget about your legendary weapon and there you go.

Seriously ppl are getting more and more lazy by the day, what good are legendaries if you can easily get them? where will the satisfaction of making something difficult go? sigh…

How does “I don’t like this” = “you are lazy”? I don’t like to eat squash. If eating squash was a requirement to finish becoming a chef, the fact that I don’t really want to do it doesn’t mean I’m lazy or want it for free. That is completely illogical.

Lazy as “I want to make something but want to do it with the less effort possible, including the stuff I don’t like” call it what you want, If you want to do something everyone must do if they want the same thing, you’ll have to accept doing everything needed to craft that legendary, if you need to complete archievements for it, then you’ll have to do it, simply as that, raging that you must do things you don’t like at the forum to craft stuff that is not obligatory is just whining about something you’re too lazy to do

Complaining to a company about something you don’t like about their product is perfectly acceptable. No, you don’t have to accept doing what everyone else did. Map completion used to include WvW and now it doesn’t. Things change – often from player input which Anet themselves said.

And you can continue to say “lazy”, but since it is obviously the wrong word that’s on you lol.

  • Players can get loot without going near the mob’s corpse if they own HoT and have gotten through the Pact Commander Mastery line. The last Mastery in that line gives true auto-loot, as in auto-deposit to inventory.
  • One of the “joys” of the mega-server system is that there are rarely any empty zones. Expect to see players in the persistent world when you play in PvE.
  • It’s unlikely they are deliberately spoiling your test, they just are used to getting a dop by pitching in and don’t see the negative impact on you. Players are used to it not mattering if they attack a mob already in combat with someone else (what in other games would be considered kill-stealing). The original attacker (you, in your post) still gets loot, so they’re going to be thinking, “No harm done.”
  • If the sPvP golem doesn’t do it for you, you could try opening up a story dungeon instance solo and fight the first few mobs.

This.

Suggestion…in the Gem Store…sell a breather skin that turns the character into a Mermaid/Merman when underwater…pretty sure it would sell like hotcakes and my wife would adore it ;-)

Valdergare
Ranger, Isle of Janthir

I have a strange feeling that to keep things more GW2ish, you’re more likely to get a krait or largos transform tonic that works underwater and allows combat. I don’t think there are any transformations in game that turn you into something that does not exist in the world in some form already, and merfolk just aren’t part of Tyrian lore afaik.

Also, if whatever form it takes it does sell like hotcakes, odds are everyone will look exactly the same when using it. Same mer-hair, same mer-tail, same mer-skin tone, same mer-channel (oops, ignore that last bit, flashed back to Adam West’s Batman). I don’t see that as a good thing. I mean, I am happy to wear outfits even though they get a bit “samey” but at least I can dye those to stand out.

Well, there are different colored quaggan tonics, as well as the various Mystery tonics that can turn you into a random tree, a random piece of furniture, etc. So there are already methods in-game to make peoples’ looks differ using tonics.

We Need Another World Event!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

We all remember one of the greatest events of all.

Attack On Lions Arch!

A complex world event that required everyone to participate. But how long has it been since we had a world event? Quite some time…
World events helped obtain rare items such as the Tempered Spinal Back Plate from Blade Shards which is now implemented into fractals. A rare Scarlet rife which i gotta say was pretty cool. and a set of achievements to complete which took multiple runs to perform.

A majority of the game now is “Mini Meta Events” and “Raids” and updates in WvW / PvP. To only help take away from the fact that we need something a little “MORE”.

Upon joining this game i remember a enemy they really emphasized in some of their skill videos were “The Branded”.

But what has really happened with the branded this corrupted purple looking enemy. we got a dragon called The Shatterer. and a variety of branded enemies to kill.

[We need a new world event!]

But since lions arch has fully been rebuilt with quite some work i say we need to destroy a new map!

I say we create a world event in the name of the branded. The shattered dragon has named a lord in his defeat to raise and army that is to push from the dragons defeat to the black citadel.

The event could consist of Branded Dragon Wings as its hard to obtain back item with a drop such as branded slivers.

and maybe a new set of only in this event obtainable weapons that would really encourage the beginning to end.

YOUR THOUGHTS?

Branded dragon wings/glider certainly would be cool and I wouldn’t mind another event to obtain them, “World” event or not.

Hi guys, I was interested in the same question, and found this on wiki:

Harvesting
In order to unlock the farm, the collection Kudzu III: Leaf of Kudzu must be completed. Once completed the farm can be harvested once a day on each character. The farm contains 2-3 of the various plants planted in the collection.

Primordial Orchid nodes are separately unlocked by completing A Henge Away from Home collection step – Dierdre’s Orchard.

Idk if this is still an issue but the thread is more than a year old.

My ideal would be to scrap the whole system and just jumble all the skins together, but that would probably be too much to hope for!

Yes, considering that outfits mean that you can’t tell a character’s armor class anyway, they really should allow mix-and-match between the weights. But I do think that would be too difficult for Anet to want to do.

It comes down to a technical limitation in how the different armor weight rigs were done. (Definitely short-sighted design choice…) That makes the seams different between the different weights, so it would take a ton of rework to get them all to fit together. We’re not likely to see mixed armor weights, ever.

Yea, without getting into that level of detail that’s what I meant that it would be too difficult.

I don’t expect “realism” per se, but I would like some more modesty in some of the designs that are released. It seems like what we get in outfits, weapons, and/or pieces are over-designed and chunky, rather than intricate and sleek.

I think the idea of this thread is to have more choice. We have plenty of over-the-top armor and outfits, and certainly some of the blue / green level stuff is more “plain” but the plain stuff isn’t always very realistic. So some realistic choices would be nice whether they are plate mail, leather, robes, etc.

For clarification: have you used the modeling tool that GW2 uses? Have you created armor for a MMO? I just want to know what your experience is that you are able to make the above statement with certainty.

Well I asked you this question already you did not answer it:

Do you believe that anet is the only game company in the entire world that does not use an already existing 3d modeling tool to model a 3d model?

There is no magical GW2 way of creating a 3d model. It’s a d3 modeling tool that’s used to create the model. It’s then in some way converted and prepared to whatever their engine needs.

If we have the 3d model of an outfit you can start there with creating an armor set out of it.
This is not rocket science. It’s logical and understandable for amateurs.

You can watch YT videos from experienced game developers that explain you the detailed process of how to make 3d models for certain engines. For every engine the first step ist the same:
Create a 3d model in a common modeling tool.

So is your answer “no”? You have not used GW2’s tool and so you have no idea how they create armor?

Certainly it seems like it would be an easy prospect. I myself have asked why they can’t do certain things that make sense. But there is a difference between asking why and insisting that they can do something.

I might be one of the only person who enjoys outfits. I like having a second clothing option to what I’ve transmogged on the gear that the character is currently wearing. I don’t want to transmog constantly due to my whims. Buuuuuut I hate how so many of the outfits are similar and I totally get why people want more options between things. Yet it seems like it would be a lot of work on their part, they gotta cut corners somewhere I suppose? IDK

You are correct that outfits are a quick, easy way to change your look. However having played many other MMOs I have seen better ways.

Lord of the Rings Online has a fabulous costume system. You can have up to 7 “outfit” tabs that can save your costume looks for you. And each tab has a complete set of cosmetic gear (including weapons) with each slot being able to be toggled on and off. Best of all, every single gear slot on every single costume tab can take normal armor, no transmutation into a “skin” required. If you get a loot drop that you like you can simply add it to one of your outfit tabs at no cost.

This costume system is almost 10 years old…

I have purchased almost every armor set and only purchased 1 outfit. That is how you vote with your wallet.

People who have purchased a bunch of armor but also purchased a bunch of outfits are sending the wrong message if they prefer armor.

You’re not taking into consideration how specific pieces function. You can’t just ignore how they connect because that is a critical feature of how armor is created. Pieces cast clipping masks and make parts of the character models or other armor pieces invisible. That’s not something you just ignore but designed around.

Take the 3d model and cut it for each armor type in pieces, so that they can connect to the specific connection point of the desired armor class.
This should require like 5 minutes of active work by a person that knows how to use the modeling tool, that knows where to cut.

Why is this such a huge problem suddenly?

For clarification: have you used the modeling tool that GW2 uses? Have you created armor for a MMO? I just want to know what your experience is that you are able to make the above statement with certainty.

You have zero data on how many people purchase outfits outside the anecdotal information of one person who can only be in one place in the game at one time and who is playing the game, not counting people.

It would be less profitable because a number of the people who already purchased the Outfit would not purchase the armor.

Telling me it’s impossible to know how many people purchase outfits. Then continues telling me what those unknown number of people will do at a future sale.

I said “a number” of those people, I didn’t say what all of them would do.

Maybe people who already bought the outfit wouldn’t buy the corresponding armor set. But where have I ever mentioned that?

Who said you did mention that? I offered it as one reason why Anet could lose money creating armor out of outfits.

You said their comment makes no sense. It makes perfect sense for the way they currently make armor. If they were to do what you suggest, that would be a different situation.

I also am not certain what you mean by “make the same outfit jsut as six different armor pieces”? Do you mean use the current outfits or change the way they make armor so they first make an outfit and then split it?

The first option would not be a good solution for reasons I already stated. The second option might not be any faster than making the pieces separately.

Unless we’ve actually created clothing for MMOs it’s hard to know exactly how to improve the process. I would think professionals would know more than people who have no idea how it’s done.

Look, one last try.
If you want to make any object in a game, no matter what. You have to first make an 3d model in a modeling tool.

This already happened with the outfits that are right now in the game. This needs to happen if we want to make any armor in the game.

What I am saying is: The 3d data is the starting point. It’s the same for armor and for outfits.

Is it? I don’t know how you would know that for a fact unless you have worked on GW2. It could be that creating an outfit and creating armor is a different process.

Race should matter! A short rant.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

None of you has made any argument that makes it more equitable to not have race matter (at least in the story!). On the contrary, it’s like you are defending having less variety, “because”.

If the race mattered, we would have less variety. All warriors would be Charr or Norn, all Rangers would be sylvari, all engis would be Asuras. That’s an example of course, we might have ended with a different race/class pairings, but we would end up with those. That is exactly why race doesn’t matter buildwise.

Still, more emphasis on player character race should be made in LS and personal story,

This is an assumption not based in fact.

Its an exaggeration but the basis is true that people will chose to play the race that is objectively stronger and synergies best with their class. Unless all racial skills are perfectly balanced (unlikely) then racial skills cant be worth using in combat at all because race stop being cosmetic.

What he actually said was:

If the race mattered, we would have less variety. All warriors would be Charr or Norn, all Rangers would be sylvari, all engis would be Asuras. That’s an example of course, we might have ended with a different race/class pairings, but we would end up with those.

And this is what I objected to. We don’t actually know that an improved Race would correspond with only one class. That is the assumption that I am objecting to.

Well if they did this then you could only mix and match the new gemstore outfit armor pieces with other new outfit gemstore armor pieces coming out in the future.

The reason for that is all the armor pieces we have up till they make this change dont share common attachment points on heavy medium and light.

So if people are happy with starting over on skin collection I bet anet could do just that.

But sadly I dont think the playerbase would agree to that.

So you are telling me that it is impossible and/or way too time consuming to take the 3d model of an already existing outfit, cut it into 6 pieces and use the already existing standard tools and procedures they used to create all the other armors in the game?
Really?

Yes it seems it is or dont you think anet would have done it by now if it wasent?

Instead of releasing outfits, give us full armour set skins instead, like the way things were at launch with the Phalanx and Krytan armour sets etc. This might not seem like an issue, but the entire end game of GW2 is centred around cool looking skins. Being able to mix and match different armour set pieces is half the fun, and lets people get creative with their own unique looks. If the reason is clipping, it’s honestly not that big an issue. I’d rather have my own unique look that has slight clipping issues, than being forced to have the same boring look as everyone else.

No matter how good a released outfit, I always find at least ONE part I don’t like that prevents me from purchasing it. This wouldn’t be a problem if I wasn’t forced to go all or nothing. The wardrobe system was a brilliant implementation, however it’s potential is wasted through the mass production of sub-perfect outfits.

My thief has been wearing the same T3 Human coat for years. Make sets instead of outfits, please!

Or give me a REALLY good reason as to why that’s impossible.

Here is your answer from Anet and the source:

Armor sets are by far the most expensive reward we can make. A full set includes heavy, medium, light, times five races, times two sexes, so it’s like developing 30 sets. It takes nine months to develop. (That’s for a normal armor set — legendary is much longer.) It’s not something we can do for Living World episodes. Individual pieces are good rewards for Living World episodes; full sets are more something for expansion packs.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4uqx15/out_of_the_shadows_devs_here_ask_us_anything/d5s52tj

Whoever stated that should have left out the races and sexes since those are the same for outfits. What really makes the difference is Light / Medium / Heavy and then each individual piece has to be tailored to be used with other armor besides that set.

I don’t like it either. I would at least like them to change the ratio to less outfits and more armor. But no more trenchcoats :P

meanwhile s2 had a full set of weapons and armor…

Players don’t want compromise, only results.

Players can want what they want. However the results are what we have as it’s most unlikely that ANet will redo the armor or stop making outfits.

Edit: in addition all these no outfit posts are always either/or. They assume if ANet stops making outfits there will be more armor. But the outfit team is not necessarily the armor team. In fact, since armor is one of the most expensive and time consuming items they make it’s very likely to be different people. Removing outfits then won’t increase armor and in fact the loss of sales would mean less money for things such as armor.

While you might be right, making any type of clothing for characters is just as likely to all be done by the same people. Hard to say.

That said, if they stopped making Outfits altogether so they could make more armor, and you are correct, those devs would likely be moved to making armor…

And while all this is currently hypothetical, Anet has changed major policies in the past. They decided not to make the rest of the HoT Legendaries and then changed their mind again. We can keep hoping for more armor.

I’m actually perfectly happy with outfits because they look good. They can be improved to add a few more custom options but it helps they are also much more time friendly to create. I think GW2 would have been much greater if they focused on ONLY outfits with options like backpieces, helms and auras being the custom options and adding more race options.

While I like mix-and-match armor, GW2 doesn’t do well in making a stark variety of pieces to mix. That is, each piece isn’t distinct enough to warrant their existance. Some gloves just look too similar to other gloves, some pants too similar to other pants, etc. To be truly effective, you need to create pieces that rely on their own aesthetic merit, not “need to make 6 pieces to complete a set”. It’s even worse when you consider that there are 3 weights. Light armor doesn’t need “shoulder” gear, for example.

Completely disagree, hate this idea. /not signed

Stop Making Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Race should matter! A short rant.

Maybe another one somewhere… Easiest to get is the Icebrood horn backpack. The fractal backpack (if you mean the ad infinitum) is BY FAR the biggest pain in the kitten And it’s legendary.

Please note that the Blood Ruby backpack allows you to change the stats with an item you purchase from an in-game vendor for only 100 Unbound Magic. There are also ascended trinkets with this same property.

Disable invisible/offline whisper

I’ll say it again: all this setting would do is cause those people who do this to pop online just long enough to whisper you before going back to the safety of being invisible.

It will not stop those who wish to insult others.

Just block, report, and move on. Anything else is letting the person win and a waste of your time and/or energy.

So, make it harder for them to do it and many will not bother.

It’s not that hard to have the menu to toggle online/offline up while you have the chat/mail window open. Type your message, toggle online, post/send message, toggle offline.

It also punishes players who don’t abuse the ability to send whispers and messages while invisible.

To me, that con outweighs the benefits.

Why would anyone want to avoid whispers and yet feels they should legitimately be able to whisper other people? It doesn’t make any sense.

don’t worry about them being better options than each other, disable them in PvP, fractals, and raids and be done with it. Those are the only game formats where it would matter to the point of “needing to be x race with y profession to be good”.

I’m not sure what is wrong with race being part of the meta as class is part of the meta. Nothing should be so unequal that people don’t want to, or are shunned if they play a certain class. So the same should be true if race mattered to your build.

So you would be happy you leveled up a human warrior when all the meta groups say to you sorry charr is better race you cant join us.

Are you “happy” if you level up that Warrior and all the meta groups don’t want Warriors? What’s the difference?

The difference is you can relatively easily have one of each class at max rank. If racial skills are kept weak and race is just cosmetic that’s just 9 characters that cover all the bases. If racial skills are buffed and race is not just cosmetic then you need 5*9=45 characters to cover all the bases. Having to reroll a warrior because the latest patch buffed Asura and nerfed Charr so that Charr are no longer the “meta” would be a PITA, IMHO.

OR, Anet could keep all the races and classes balanced so that no 1 is the winner and none are “losers”. I don’t want to have 1 of each as it is and I don’t like the idea that whichever I want to play at the time I can’t because it is considered a loser.

a small addition to the outfit system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

custom outfits.

apply transmutation charges to a custom outfit, shared between characters that acts as a regular outfit just with existing armor pieces. any blank slots would just show your equipped armor.

the current system is kinda garbage, with the entire endgame premise is based around looks & the only way to change them is through the gemstore/pvp, every single time you get new gear or a character.

to buffer the slight loss in transmutation charges through the gemstore, anet could give you 3 custom outfits by default, and you could buy more in the gemstore for 500+

I like the idea, but I would do it like this:

Take the current equipment window where you can turn on and off certain pieces – make duplicate windows for “costumes”. Maybe you get 1 window “free” with the 3rd expansion and each new window after that can cost gems.

Each Costume window has a toggle to view on every single gear slot and a separate slot for outfit, backpack and glider with toggles to view.

If you slot an outfit and turn off one gear piece, the base armor shows through. Maybe they could do this by coding the armor gear pieces to “overlay” that part of the outfit if the toggle is disabled. This would probably cause clipping but a lot of players have stated that they would rather have additional choices even if there is clipping.

Critical hits 'material nodes' gone?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Djinn.9245

Djinn.9245

That’s the thing. There no longer is bonus strike. So the ‘feature’ of 4 strikes (3 for plants) on unbound tools in one go, only is usefull for guild hall nodes, and rich ore nodes. You will NEVER Again get 4 ore/wood strikes without Item booster buff. So in the wide open world, the ‘feature’ of the new tools is useless.

On plants it’s easy to know if you go extra strike, the unbound magic is all after each other (2-3) and same for the materials you got. Not 1 material, X magic, 1 material, X magic, that’s only when you get single strikes on plants.

The bonus strike is included with the initial gathering when using unbound tools. If you prefer them to be separate then don’t use the tools. Claiming that they’re gone is misleading.

You still don’t get it do you. Unbound tools are an example why the removal of any base % gathering bonus that now is gone, is ironic and sad. There is no use for the ‘gimmick’ outside of the guild hall. Sure i can use other tools (and have them). That’s not the point. I want the 4th ore/wood, and 2nd plant strike chance BACK wich is 100% gone now. That is what my post is talking about.

Then don’t use the tool. The tool includes the first three normal strikes, as well as the fourth bonus strike if it occurs, in a single strike. If you use the regular orichalcum mining pick on a mithril ore node which gives a bonus strike, you gather it once for the three normal strikes and then a second time for the bonus strike. The unbound gathering tool does this all in a single strike saving the player time.

The extra gathering strikes are not gone.

Just so I understand here is an analogy: if I’m harvesting a tomato plant irl, usually it will have 3 tomatoes but occasionally it will have 4. The old way I would pick each tomato individually but this new tool picks them all at once. There isn’t any effect on how many tomatoes I pick – if there would have been 3 I still get 3 and if there would have been 4 I still get 4. Is that correct?

I wonder if the additional strike would give you additional unbound magic or there is some other effect that can happen “on strike” where it matters if that extra strike is missing. Like for Guild gathering bonus or some other buff.

Please addess this invisible/offline whispering.

If a players choose to go offline or invisible, they shouldn’t be able to whisper another person with insult.

Please fix thank you.

I agree, and not because I want to “get back” at someone. It is very confusing to have someone whisper you, you reply and the game says they’re “offline” (which to me means they are not playing), then they whisper you again. And I’ve been playing since Beta. Yes, after that happens I think “oh, they’re anonymous” but players unfamiliar with this might wonder what’s wrong with their computer or something.

I also don’t understand why someone should have the ability to block others from whispering them but should be able to whisper people. This is a perfect recipe for abuse. It doesn’t make any sense and should be removed.

Interesting.

Or, and hear me out here, we could just keep the system as is and not waste a huge amount of developer ressources on this issue.

Shrugs Is it so useless though, if it leads to a better story?

“Guild Wars 2 defines the future of online roleplaying games with action-oriented combat, customized personal storylines, epic dynamic events, world-class PvP, and no subscription fees!”

Having a cookie cutter commander is hardly “customised”.

So, you’re saying that story plots that force you to use racial skills will lead to better story lines?

Noooooooo. I don’t think so.
1) the two, good stories and specific skills, aren’t connected
2) I dislike story instances that force me to abandon my regular skills and take certain specific skills, because [reasons]. That’s not good story telling or fun play at all.

Where does anyone say “force” you to use racial skills? I must have missed that part.

Thank you to those who replied with insults for people who choose not to leave a map. That is exactly the toxicity that is the problem with the TD meta. Perfect examples.

Also, those trying to join the meta are doing it for themselves, not out of some altruism to help the greater good. Therefore if you want to call people who just want to be able to continue what they were doing before people started taxiing for the meta “selfish”, then those who want to kick them off the map so THEY can do what they want and join the meta are also “selfish”.

Well, you might want to consider their point of view. I’m trying to organize the meta for dozens players. If there are enough “stubborn” people who don’t give a kitten it will simply fail.

I do care. I care that I was in the map before most of those other people taxi’d in and I am in the middle of an event chain.

Overall I think the best goal for Anet to aim for is a wide variety of skins – serious ones, silly ones, glowy ones with particle effects and plain ones, revealing armour and fully covered, symmetrical and asymmetrical…and so on. They’re never going to be able to make one style of armour that everyone likes and which suits everyone’s characters so the nearest they can come to making everyone happy is to let them choose.

I agree that it would be nice if the looks were spread more evenly. Unfortunately it seems Anet doesn’t agree. It isn’t clear to me why not.
