Legendary collections instead of grind?

I very much second this. I’ve played multiple hours every single day for almost 2 years now, and still do, but I still consider myself way too casual to even start attempting to make a legendary. I’d love to see one or two of the HoT leggies in my inventory one day, but I just can’t see myself farming for hundreds of hours. At the moment, legendaries don’t really ask for effort, mastery or anything of the sort, but simply the ability to withstand the mind-numbing grind they require.

But hey, I’m just bragging here. I know they won’t change the legendary crafting process, and enough people seem to be fine with it, since every third person you see is running around with at least one. Maybe in 10 years I’ve gathered enough materials via regularl play to attempt making one, we’ll see.

I am an EXTREMELY casual player that has played since Beta. I have taken a month or 3 off here and there in that time and did not play every day. About 6 months ago I decided I had enough mats saved up that I wanted to start Chuka & Champawat. So far I have had enough wood collected to get through The Hunt and Ambush. I used up all my high-tier leather and had to buy more, but it didn’t make me broke. It seems that Ambush was the most material-intensive step, so I think I’m in the home stretch except for the Mystic Tribute which I am not too far off from.

Keeping in mind that through my time playing the game I wasn’t even thinking in terms of crafting a Legendary, I would think that someone who plays multiple hours every single day with a goal would be able to make one much quicker.

Will we ever get a REAL leather solution?

The precious farm in Lake Doric didn’t lower leather prices and it’s annoying to farm it, it’s easier to farm gold elsewhere and buy the leather. It was dirt cheap before Anet changed the drop rates (or whatever black magic they used) and now it’s too expensive. Can’t we just have something in-between these 2 extremes? Is it that hard to manipulate leather again? They did it once, why keep it overly expensive?

This is Anet’s official position on manipulating the economy:

Hey you said they permit us to multibox but its not really allowed. It is in fact allowed.

Can you show me the quote where I said that multi-boxing is not allowed? Multi-boxing is allowed, I never wrote that it isn’t.

I just think that ArenaNet is more like “yeah, we tolerate it because we can’t help it anyway.” and not “People, go ahead and do multi-boxing, that would be so great!”

You deciding to attribute some random attitude for Anet is nonsensical.

Wasn’t it (the hills) intended as a group farm area?

Yea, pretty useles, huh? All of this group-only content since HoT was released is going to mostly be dead once the next expansion hits (if it wasn’t already).

Which has nothing to do with the response you quoted, as that was in response to the declaration that the farm was supposed to be solo content, and said declaration subsequently proven inaccurate. Odd.

My comment on Anet making group-only content has nothing to do with you pointing out that you can’t solo the leather farm because it was intended to be group-only content? Odd.

GS necro "AFK farm" in Bitterfrost?

I’ve already cited the Prosperity Valley crystal race…
Silverwastes – people parking themselves outside one of the camps…Plains of Ashford – skale, Separatists and ghosts are all popular farmer targets, and all necessary for heart completion in their respective areas…Iron Marches – ghost farm in the southeast…

Interesting, I play GW2 quite a lot every day and go to all zones for dailies and yet I have not noted this huge issue of multiple AFKers at each area (1 person wouldn’t really make a difference) causing issues with the events. You must always play at a different time than I do or maybe you are in EU or something.

Anyway, I detest cheaters so I am not defending AFKers as I have said. I just have literally never seen what you are describing.

  • NPCs are a resource, both in the sense of what they might drop and in how they’re tied to different areas, events and quest givers. When a handful of players camp an area to farm those NPCs, they monopolize that resource, denying other players access to more than the loot, they make it more difficult, or in some cases, all but impossible for others to complete events or hearts.

First, I am not a defender of afk farming. Any examination of my posts will show that I am against it. However your facts are incorrect. In this specific case at least, the afk farmers actually make it easier for players to do what they are there to do. The afk farmers stand next to Winterberry nodes which happen to be where mobs auto-spawn. The mobs that the farmers are farming happen to get in the way of other players trying to harvest winterberries and then move on to the next harvesting node. I can’t think of anyone except the farmers who actively WANT to kill what the farmers are killing.

I want to kill what they’re killing. They offer a chance at karma consumables. I can turn that into more materials, or unlock skins, or acquire minis, or a number of other things. You appear to be more interested in getting to the next bush, and that’s fine. We don’t all share that approach to the game.

When I do BFF, I don’t only go bush to bush either. I harvest other nodes, kill mobs, etc. However in my experience the very few times I’ve seen a afker, they haven’t been taking up a significant number of the huge amount of mobs in that forest that it would cause me to complain about it. But I was specifically addressing your claim that “they make it more difficult, or in some cases, all but impossible for others to complete events or hearts”. I don’t know of a single case where that is actually true.

I used to use the centaur area in Lake Doric to get quick, easy completion of Noran’s heart. The centaurs spawned quickly and in sufficient numbers, and were relatively easy to defeat (in comparison to White Mantle mesmers or clerics, which i despise having to fight). I was forced to stop when the engineer farms took over the entire area. A lot of people did. It was impossible to make progress on Noran’s heart in that area when the farmers took over.

I have frequently done the Noran’s heart without touching a single centaur at the centaur camp. But if I preferred killing centaurs there to the other things you can do to complete the heart, I would tag centaurs before they were killed by the engis. After all, there are many engis there and yet the kills aren’t monopolized by only 1 player. So the other engis must also be getting tags in.

Prosperity Valley was a favorite camping spot for farmers for several months because three events with rapidly respawning enemies occurred there. Due to the large number farmers, those events would frequently fail, as their presence scaled enemies up and generated tougher foes. Event failure made no difference to the farmers, as they were only there for the loot bags, but it made all the different to the legitimate players who invested time and effort, only to fail to achieve the desired map tier when the sandstorm began.

I have never seen a farmer there. You say it “was a favorite camping spot for farmers for several months” – why only for several months? If it was a favorite, why would they stop?

The main problem with this “fix” is that it was stated that they wanted to stop players from “AFKing in the centaur stronghold” – what about players who stayed in one spot but were not AFK? Why are they punishing people who are not actually AFK?

This seems more a case of “you’re not playing this content exactly how we want you to” (i.e. “play Anet’s way”). Apparently standing in one spot is not Anet’s way so it’s not allowed.

Micromanagement of players

It’s borderline exploit and exploits should be dealt with.

Now, I’m fine with arguing it was bad for the game. But “exploit”? Using class skills as intended?

They obviously had not intended for the turrets to be used in that manner, or they would not have made the change.

We don’t actually know that. What we do know is that Anet didn’t want players “AFKing in the centaur stronghold”. The problem is: how do you distinguish between players who were afking and players who were using turrets but were actively playing the entire time? Anet ended up punishing both.

Micromanagement of players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Djinn.9245

Unfortunately, despite GW2 being touted at the beginning as “play your way”, Anet does micromanage players and force them to “play THEIR way”. Anet has changed their position on “play your way” at least since the New Player Experience in 2014. Micromanaging players seems to be one of the main themes of development nowdays.

You can’t make a game without somehow controlling/allowing players to play a certain way.

According to what?

In the beginning, GW2 had WvW, PvP, Open World PvE, Dungeons, Crafting, TP, JP, mini-games, etc. There are people who played GW2 by doing only 1 of these and people who liked to do several or all. But there were very few ways that Anet attempted to force players to do any of these game modes. WvW was initially part of Map Completion and they removed it, taking one of those very few away.

At least since the New Player Experience, there has been an increasing ramp up to coerce players, and in some situations force them, to play other game modes. I don’t know of any reason this is “necessary”. If you do, please share.

I don’t personally have anything against people who want to play like the engi-farmers. It’s not like they can actually walk away from their computers for long periods of time like the actual afkers (ranger & necro). Those are the people who are really exploiting the game and should be punished.

I actually prefer my rangers, necro, and ogre runes when doing winterberry runs. Not for AFKing, to have something guard my back while I concentrate on what is in front of me and the winterberry bushes.

The problem is not a specific profession. The problem is AFKing and getting loot. A solution to all of this would not be having loot drop if you are AFK (although that is easier said than done).

That’s what I said – rangers and necros who can actually walk away from their computer for long periods of time.

Why are you making up things that Anet “might do”, and what Anet really means, based on zero evidence?

Do you really think ArenaNet appreciate the fact that players run a dozen accounts at the same time and siphon the created gold to the main account?

I think that Anet does appreciate a dozen accounts no matter who runs them. I’m not certain that anyone DOES run a dozen accounts at the same time. The highest number I personally know about in any game is 6 accounts. As for siphoning the gold, why would Anet care what account gets gold? It would be no different from a bunch of friends each giving a bunch of gold to one person so they can get a Legendary.

At day 22 of the login rewards you get 8 Mystic coins = 8 gold. If you log in with a dozen other accounts that you don’t even play (and why not, free accounts, right?), and send them over to your main account, you get 96 extra gold.

Free accounts don’t get a daily login bonus.

Asking for evidence makes no sense here. What would convince you that this exists and that no publisher in the world likes it?

What would convince me that “no publisher in the world likes it” would be actual evidence to that effect.

Micromanagement of players

In the recent patch to the bag farming in Lake Doric and over the years I’ve noticed an upsetting pattern of decisions made by the development team. You cannot micromanage players to how you want them to play your game. It is in fact really bad PR. It was stated that the area as it was, was not being played to your intentions. To me, this is not an exploit but rather a design flaw. While I am not that upset over this farm being gone, it’s the principal of it. Nor was this farm game breaking or giving anyone an edge as everyone else could do it. My point is that the more you try to force your players to do things the way YOU want the more you’re going to lose customers. And also, why exactly are you so against people farming? It’s a basic core element of MMOs. I don’t see any other MMOs constantly changing things to prevent people from making virtual money. To me this is very odd. Instead I believe the proper action would be to set up spots that are intended for farming. Not discourage players from trying to make gold or get materials. Cause let me tell you, stuff like cloth and leather is a real chore to come by. Unlike wood and ore.

Also I find this extraordinarily hyprocritical because nearly 1 year ago you’ve also said that farming with a Ranger in Silverwastes is completely acceptable. Yet farming with an Engineer is not in Lake Doric? I’m not sure what’s going on over there but I think your teams need to have set rules on stuff, communicate better with both your teams and your playerbase.

And while I am not as familiar with afk farming in other maps, I suspect it is the same.

The only thing that I know for a fact that is wrong about afk farming is that they are able to make progress in the game while not actively playing the game. This is simply cheating.

People who are against legitimate multiboxing either don’t understand, or are jealous because you can do something they can’t.

Well, it depends on the source of that power. Multi-boxing means that you have the hardware that supports it, either by virtual machines or several computers at hand. Some people have money to gain additional power. The power that comes from multi-boxing or farming is in a way like the power that comes with income. If the farmers had more real money at their disposal to buy the gold, they wouldn’t have to farm. I’m sure there are whales who find it hilarious to spend so much time and effort to get gold.

Time and money are a balance. Some people have more money than time. Some have more time than money. So people use whichever they have more of to accomplish what they want. Some are unlucky or made poor choices and don’t have enough of either which is unfortunate.

I think many people and even ArenaNet are against multi-boxing to farm or gain any other advantage.

There is no evidence that Anet is against multi-boxing and they have an official policy that states that they are not against it.

If there existed a feasible way to enforce a ban on multi-boxing without punishing people who just live and play together, ArenaNet might consider it. It’s not specifically “allowed”, it’s “permitted”, it’s a pragmatic approach to the problem of multi-boxing. They really have no choice.

Why are you making up things that Anet “might do”, and what Anet really means, based on zero evidence?

I did some more thinking and I think that being equals is not fun. Guild Wars 2 tries to give everybody the same opportunities. This is boring. I remember playing a MMORPG called Cabal Online. I used to farm a spot for hours and hours. Why? Because I knew that spot could drop one of the most powerful weapons in game, that only a handful of people have. Guild Wars 2 lacks the possibility to be more powerful than everybody else. You can be more ’ skilled’ but IMO there is not that much skill involved in playing Guild Wars 2, there is not enough build diversity to facilitate this type of gameplay. This is just some speculation, though. I am just trying to think about WHY this type of gameplay is boring for me and apparently for OP and WHY we want something more.

tl:dr: being equals is not fun, the fun is in being different, there has to be a king and someone who dreams to someday become that king. I think.

There are already many ways of being “different” in GW2. Including getting one of the very rare items, they just don’t make you more powerful than everyone else.

You are absolutely right. I ment power specific items, my bad.

I suspect they will have an economic update as part of the expansion. I hope they undo some of the changes they made to leather then but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do what OriOri suggests instead and make cloth the main gate instead (by, for example, requiring 15 bolts for a patch or requiring more scraps per bolt). I hope they will “heal” rather than “harm” crafting but I wouldn’t be surprised.

If they do to cloth what they did to leather I bet a lot of people will just give up crafting altogether. It’s bad enough as it is – don’t make it worse.

There was seriously nothing wrong with that?

I guess Anet thought there was something wrong with it, but since they aren’t taking the same drastic measures against players who are ACTUALLY afk like rangers and, more recently necros, I’m guessing that there was another motive behind Anet’s response. My thought is that the engi-farmers were getting in the way of how Anet intended the leather farm to work.

I don’t personally have anything against people who want to play like the engi-farmers. It’s not like they can actually walk away from their computers for long periods of time like the actual afkers (ranger & necro). Those are the people who are really exploiting the game and should be punished.

There are plenty of ways to do things in GW2 without playing the game the way other people think it should be played. People get Legendaries by purchasing them on the TP instead of jumping through the hoops that most people do to get one. So? Anet made Legendaries to be sell-able so that is perfectly fine.

Anything that people can do on multiple accounts, at the same time and with very little effort on their part shouldn’t be allowed. Neither should they be able to “play” their partner’s or friend’s account in there while they take part in any other content with their own account. ArenaNet shouldn’t allow anything that might lead to multiboxing and eventual botting in due time.

First, per the pinned post from Gaile, MULTIBOXING is permitted per the TOS. Go read https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post6142609 if you think I’m lying.

Second, as for your “Anything that can be done on multiple accounts at the same time…” comment, you mean like the Troll Runestone HP in Tangled Depths? I happened to be “multiboxing” last night in TD – I’d left toons from both accounts at the flax farm the night before, when someone popped up in map chat and asked for help. Since my alt didn’t have that point, I went and helped, and managed to get both accounts there in time. Then, after it was done and everyone took off, I hung out and did a little inventory management. On both accounts. And a necro showed up and needed the point. So I dropped a banner, popped my stone spirit, and told him to kick it off. And proceeded to help him take the troll down pretty quickly. Actively using BOTH accounts to do it. AND NO, I didn’t use any special macros or key binds that let me do actions on both accounts simultaneously – all my clicks and key presses were specific to each account’s game window at the time they were executed.

The fact is, multiboxing allows me to gather the resources to build up my guild hall – which I’m doing nearly solo for a guild with about 10 active accounts – and lets me play professions and try out ideas that I wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to do. Just look at the quartz crystals needed for a guild hall. It’s north of 15,000. Just for the ley-line infused tools. You go do that on one account.

People who are against legitimate multiboxing either don’t understand, or are jealous because you can do something they can’t.

PvP:

  • Armor skins,
  • PvP rewards from season (titles, legendaries, pre’s),
  • skins unique to PvP,
  • Ascneded armors,

PvE

  • Mastry levels,

Gold, Karma, other currency and AP’s not included…

Endgame… what do you expect from endgame may I ask?

Legendaries = ascended
Titles, auras, skins, decorations = nonsense

A huge part of the fun people have in GW2 is exactly what you call “nonsense”. So while it might not matter to you, it does to many other players.

[Personal opinions incoming. Speculation based on off hand comments from Devs from a long time ago.]

I’m going to take a guess and say the Devs miscalculated on what people would use to gear up, back when they designed the game.

I think vanilla Tyria was designed for a top level of rare gear with exotics being a long term goal. That they weren’t expecting the average player to be in exotics (there were no ascended back then). That they thought the highest level players would mostly be in rares with the masses being in greens. All that would mean that greens would be sold and used by the average players. It didn’t work out that way. Which means that greens, which would have been the baseline gear worn by all level 80s until they get rares, are now only salvage fodder. Since the Devs would need to rewrite the level 80 masterwork gear to come as mats and luck instead, I doubt this will happen. Time, effort and the need for salvage kits, including gemstore kits, to have a use all count against it.

During the first year of GW2, gold was much harder to get. So my first few characters were leveled in greens even in the higher levels. They used the occasional rare that they might get as a drop, but none of my characters were in full rares until they were already in level 80. I hardly ever got Exotic drops so my first full set was when I finally did a Temple run and bought them with Karma.

I am not pro gear treadmill, but a lot of standard defenders of the no gear treadmill side are missing the real point of the gear treadmill, incentivizing game goals.

There are plenty of incentives for me.

based on what you have posted, i dont think the incentives are properly designed into the game for you. Your complaints about hot maps, and masteries shownthat you feel the incentives are in properly allocated, and you dont feel like the game incentivizes the proper playstyles and goals accurately.

its not a question of the number or magnitude of incentives, its about designing systems that make players feel like playing the game well (as it defines itself) is worthwhile.

My complaints have nothing to do with incentives.

6. As you understand I hate JP.

Am I cool with the guy that looks like John 5 to do more of them? Yes.

BUT:
1. Remove them from map completion.
2. Separate them from globber quests. (just do globbers totally in JP, or not, it is bad when u realize that 3 missing tokens are in JP)
3. Make them puzzles
4. Make JP group content with several classes in mind (like you would need Mesmer to do that and Ranger to do that)
5. Create separate JP adventure packs with low gem price (3 jumping puzzles, one easy, one hard, one group content) like for 100 gems
6. Remove them from map completion

Basically, his picture shows that the AFK turret farmers are making as much money as people actively doing events in the Silverwastes. The higher the magic find, the better the money, which is why I see so many 186’s next to the AFK farmers names.

Zero effort equals one of the best money makers in the game…yep.

True. Im not really into Afk farming but i was thinking about what to farm.

Level 40 Fractels is nice and all but group disband so fast and you need to concentrat all the time. After a long workday , thats not really what i want.

Silverwaste is not that popular anymore , you rarely have more than 2-3 lfg open and one of them is mostly chestfarm which i dont like.

Anet killed Multiloot and dungeons.

We have alot of “Daily” stuff but yeah…

Orr Trains are ok if you get lucky to hit something before is dies.

We dont really have a good “aktiv” farm in the game anymore or do i forgetting something?

I miss the old Silverwaste days

I know of 2 guilds that run Silverwastes farm pretty much every day. I’m sure there are more guilds farming SW at other times of the day.

You could still try it as the final post states that they have found it works in a number of situations. Couldn’t hurt.

Well, I knew you must be wrong, but to be fair I had to try it before I came back here to say so….but sure enough…you were right!

After:
1) quitting the chapter (Establishing a Foothold)
2) waypointing to Brisban
3) continuing the chapter again
4) waypointing to Silverwastes and running to the VB portal
My hero panel has been updated and I can now get through portal to Verdant Brink!!!!

Yea! In case anyone has the same issue, here is that bug reference again:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3rt6eo/establishing_a_foothold_bug/

The Glider masteries panel is still confusing to me, since it says I am at 62% on Glider Basics and it states the requirements as 3 points. I’d interpret that as not having Glider Basics, but I guess it is intended to mean I have some Glider Basics*.

I’m glad that worked and I’m glad I read it. If something like this happens to me I’ll have something I can try

New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

I didn’t play GW2 prior to HoT, and I’m fairly certain I wouldn’t have enjoyed it. But for me, HoT was a big hit! How do you reconcile that with some of the opinions on this forum?

Many (most?) of the threads complaining about HoT are from people who played GW2 before HoT like me. I really enjoyed GW2, it was the next MMO I was going to stay with long-term. When HoT was released, I was shocked. I HATED Verdant Brink. The entire experience there was horrible as I died and died – 50% of the time because I didn’t have the new Masteries. My solution was to get out of VB so I died my way across VB to Auric Basin. Auric Basin was better since it wasn’t so vertical, but many of the mobs were worse with more rapters, and adding so many more smokescales, arrowheads, etc. But while it was highly populated, AB is what saved me from quitting GW2. I eventually progressed into Tangled Depths and again was shocked: something worse than VB! I again died my way through TD in order to get to Dragon Stand. And of course there I was stymied as I couldn’t really do much of anything unless the Meta was active.

So HoT was almost a complete disaster for me. I left it after only progressing about 1/4 through the story and only returned because a couple Guildies came back and wanted to do the Story.

There’s another thread on the forums about Anet changing GW2 with extremes. HoT is a perfect example of that. If we had been introduced to the extreme vertical more gradually, and the expansion had more of a variety of maps, I would have liked it much better.

Meanwhile, TD and VB are my two favorite maps in the game by a longshot. So, you’re the developer: What do you do?

LS3 is probably a good indication of ANet’s answer to that question. It features more accessible events and a mix of vertical and flat maps. However, while I don’t mind the flat maps, I would be disappointed if the expansion didn’t feature at least a map or two that follow in the same vein as Tangled Depths and Verdant Brink. I particularly enjoyed exploring and learning these maps and I still return to them frequently.

Let’s hope the compromise is one we can both live with.

I agree I hope the next expac is one we can all live with and ENJOY!

This thread is about how HoT ruined the OP’s GW2 experience. I am relating how it ruined my experience also. If Anet hadn’t made HoT the way it is, our experiences might not have been ruined. And you would never know the difference.

Why do you believe that people should be doing something they don’t like during their entertainment time? I completely disagree.

People need to be encouraged to try different things, otherwise they never will.

Like my Mommy? Sorry, I’m an adult and can decide to try brocolli or not. And when it comes to my entertainment, I especially don’t need someone else to decide what I should try.

Notice he used the word “encouraged,” not, “forced.” And the developer is not doing it for your good, they’re doing it for theirs. The more people they can encourage to engage with content they expend resources creating, the better for them. ANet is not a parent telling you to do something, they’re people who created something to do and who are wise enough to know that without rewards, a lot of MMO players will blow that content off. The real issue, if you read more of what Healix says, is not that they put incentives behind content, but which incentives they put behind content.

Now that the Wiki has been corrected and we know that there are actually only 185 available MP, not 217, it is less “encouragement” and more “forcing” than the “play Anet’s way” defenders like to claim…

And if players blow off content, that should be indication that the content isn’t what people want, people shouldn’t be forced to do it anyway.

I’m back after a long absence, and now trying to do the HoT story.

I have gone to the Silverwastes and completed the story steps (edit: both Prologue & Torn from the Sky).

It (edit:Establishing a Foothold) directs me to the portal to go to Verdant Brink, but the portal is marked as blocked.

I understand that I need to get Glider basics trained to allow me to go thru the portal.

I need 2 HoT points more for Glider basics.

I keep reading threads that I just need to do events and stuff in order to get those points.

1) Do Silverwastes events & XP count? I’ve been there hours and hours, but no additional points show up. If Silverwastes counts, how many hours of events should it take?

2) Many threads say “do events in Heart of Maguuma zones”. But if I am denied access thru the portal, then how can I get to these zones? It’s circular: I can’t go to the zones without the points, and I can’t get the points until I go to these zones. WTF. Since I have been away a long time I am not a member of a guild, so I can’t use a guild portal, right?

How do I get these kitten points?

Anything to not lock down collection of Mastery Points would be a big improvement. You still have to earn the xp, but Mastery Points in and of themselves is a HoT mess. I used to spend money on this game, but as long as all we have is this HoT mess, I will not be spending any money on it.

I think it’s important for a game to have a structure that nudges players to participate in varied content, even if they sometimes do so only for the reward. “Play the way you want” sounds great as a slogan, but how long are you going to play a game where the goal is simply to gain experience to unlock everything?

Isn’t that the whole point of having alternative methods of acquiring rewards? We do achievements, play different game modes, etc. If we reduce that to simply gaining general experience, we risk making it more of a grind even while it may be more appealing to the subset of players who doesn’t enjoy the particular content in question.

Why do you believe that people should be doing something they don’t like during their entertainment time? I completely disagree.

As always, each to their own. =)

I completely understand. I am constantly puzzled by people who “brag” that they never pay anything in an MMO. I don’t think they grasp the concept.

But I support the developer by paying for things I actually like. I have spent plenty of money in GW2 apart from HoT and I’m sure I will continue to do that whether I pay for the next expansion or not.

While wondering around the world recently, I came upon an NPC who needed help.
As I was passing by, I thought to myself, “should I lend a hand”?

Would it be “fun”? not really but maybe mildly amusing and a time waster.
Could I use the EXP? nope. EXP is pretty much worthless.
Could I use the karma? nope, not really any use for it.
Any good drops? again, nope.
Gold? nope.

So I continued on my way and let the monsters eat him. (I know, I’m a terrible person) ;-)

I like to do the main Dailies so I get my 10AP & 2G, so I generally do the Map Events. I try to take a character to the Daily map that has not yet completed it so I get some progress. Every now and then I get a pleasant surprise of an event I haven’t seen before. Today I was in Brisbane Wildlands and saw an event dot where I hadn’t seen one before. I assumed it was a Rift dot and ignored it for a while. Then I got curious and moused-over it. It said something about “Less Longbow”. I had never heard of this event so I went to check it out. The event was in Aurora’s Remains, an area I had only recently found because I was doing Chuka & Champawat.

To me, it sounds a bit like cutting one’s nose off to spite one’s face. Or, perhaps, throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Assuming that you’re responding to Ashen, I have to say that I agree with him. Even if it turns out that I like some parts of an expansion, I’m not going to give Anet that satisfaction of knowing that I (and hopefully whoever has the same opinion) will just purchase an expansion sight-unseen. I don’t trust Anet anymore. If I end up liking parts of an expansion I might buy it after release or I might wait for it to be on sale depending on the like / dislike ratio.

I pre-purchased HoT because I loved GW2 prior to it and assumed the expansion would be more of what I loved. I won’t make the mistake of “assuming” again.
